ABOUT THIS EPISODE
Your life can look like a war zone and still not be the end of your story. Ron Myers takes us back to Hurricane Katrina and the moment a Monday night football game pulled him into memories of floodwater, loss, and the kind of fear that makes you want to decide the ending too early.
We talk about what it means to keep faith during crisis when you’re staring at debris, a diagnosis, a divorce, a termination letter, or a dream that collapsed. Ron shares vivid snapshots from the aftermath, returning to a destroyed home, sitting in a laundromat with the few things he could salvage, and realizing that sometimes the most honest prayer is simply telling Jesus the truth. Along the way, we unpack a steadying idea for anyone who needs Christian encouragement and real hope: God’s protection can look like an interruption, and “I cannot see what God is doing” is not the same thing as “God is not doing anything.”
You’ll also hear how community became a lifeline, from a radio station that turned into a supply hub to strangers who showed up like angels with work gloves on. Ron connects the dots between preparation and purpose, explaining why the hard parts of your past might be training for what you’ll be called to do next.
If you’re in your own “Katrina,” take this with you: don’t write the ending while you’re still in the storm. Listen, share this with someone who needs it, and please subscribe and leave a review so more people can find hope when life falls apart.
Thank you for listening! Please help us by sharing this podcast with your friends and telling someone about what Jesus has done for you. If you would like to share your story, visit our website https://thepromoter.org/

00:00:01.360 --> 00:00:04.639
It's time now to get the hell out of your life.
00:00:04.719 --> 00:00:09.919
A weekly broadcast with real people, sharing real struggles, and offering real hope.
00:00:10.080 --> 00:00:17.920
Today's show will encourage, inspire, and empower you to face life's challenges with a bold confidence and renewed hope.
00:00:18.160 --> 00:00:21.440
Now let's join our host, Ron Myers, the promoter.
00:00:21.679 --> 00:00:24.879
Hello, my friends, and welcome to Get the Hell Out of Your Life.
00:00:25.039 --> 00:00:31.359
I'm Ron Myers, and I need to ask you, have you had your conversations with Jesus this past week?
00:00:31.600 --> 00:00:36.640
You know, Jesus isn't waiting for the perfect time or the perfect prayer.
00:00:36.960 --> 00:00:38.079
Just talk to him.
00:00:38.399 --> 00:00:42.399
One conversation can change the direction of your day.
00:00:42.719 --> 00:00:45.679
Today I want to ask you a big question.
00:00:46.000 --> 00:00:53.520
What are you believing when everything around you looks destroyed in shambles, just chaos?
00:00:53.759 --> 00:01:02.719
You know, I had another show planned for today, but on Monday night I was watching the New Orleans Saints play the Atlanta Falcons for Dome Coming.
00:01:02.880 --> 00:01:08.959
It was a remembrance of when the Saints returned to the Superdome after Hurricane Katrina.
00:01:09.040 --> 00:01:13.040
And suddenly I wasn't watching history, I was reliving it.
00:01:13.280 --> 00:01:17.280
The images, the water, the destruction, the people, the helplessness.
00:01:17.599 --> 00:01:20.719
Twenty years disappeared just like that.
00:01:21.200 --> 00:01:25.599
And I heard that little voice inside, Ron, you need to tell this story.
00:01:25.920 --> 00:01:30.480
Because somewhere today, somebody listening to me is facing their own Katrina.
00:01:30.719 --> 00:01:32.480
Maybe you lost your job.
00:01:32.640 --> 00:01:36.560
Maybe the doctor gave you news you never expected.
00:01:36.799 --> 00:01:39.439
Maybe somebody you love walked out.
00:01:39.680 --> 00:01:42.640
Maybe your finances have collapsed.
00:01:42.879 --> 00:01:47.280
Maybe the dream you've worked on for years has fallen apart.
00:01:47.680 --> 00:01:55.519
And maybe you're sitting there wondering, Jesus, what in the world am I supposed to do now?
00:01:55.920 --> 00:02:00.079
Well, friends, I've been there, and life has taught me something very important.
00:02:00.719 --> 00:02:05.519
Don't write the ending while you're still in the middle of the storm.
00:02:05.760 --> 00:02:08.400
Because the storm doesn't get the final word.
00:02:09.039 --> 00:02:10.400
Jesus does.
00:02:10.560 --> 00:02:12.960
It was August of 2005.
00:02:13.439 --> 00:02:18.879
At the time I was the general manager of a Christian radio station on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
00:02:19.039 --> 00:02:22.800
I had only been the manager for about 16 months.
00:02:22.960 --> 00:02:30.159
On Saturday, August 27th, I was in Mobile, Alabama working with the media team at a Promise Keepers Rally.
00:02:30.560 --> 00:02:33.120
Then we started hearing the weather reports.
00:02:33.280 --> 00:02:35.039
There was a storm in the Gulf.
00:02:35.199 --> 00:02:36.719
Her name, Katrina.
00:02:36.879 --> 00:02:42.719
And the people from Louisiana and Mississippi were encouraged to leave and head home.
00:02:43.039 --> 00:02:44.639
So I was one of them.
00:02:44.800 --> 00:02:51.919
I called my wife and told her to take the kids and the pets and head north to Meridian to stay with her sister.
00:02:52.159 --> 00:02:54.400
Now, my plan was a little different.
00:02:54.560 --> 00:02:59.840
I had a hotel room there in Mobile, but I was going to go home and stay at the house.
00:03:00.000 --> 00:03:07.439
After all, I managed a radio station, and if the storm knocked us off the air, somebody needed to be there to get us back up.
00:03:07.680 --> 00:03:19.360
Now that made sense to me, but friends, that quiet little voice inside of me kept telling me, almost yelling at me, not to stay at my house and don't cancel the hotel room.
00:03:19.599 --> 00:03:20.719
So I didn't.
00:03:20.879 --> 00:03:27.039
I changed my plans and decided I would go home, get some supplies, and come back to the hotel room.
00:03:27.199 --> 00:03:32.080
Now looking back, that decision I believed saved my life.
00:03:32.400 --> 00:03:39.840
One of the lessons life has taught me is that sometimes God's protection doesn't look like protection when it's happening.
00:03:40.159 --> 00:03:46.560
Sometimes it looks like a changed plan, a closed door, a delay, an interruption.
00:03:46.800 --> 00:03:53.439
We get frustrated because things aren't going according to our plan, but we don't know what God knows.
00:03:53.759 --> 00:03:58.800
So don't judge God's faithfulness by what you can see today.
00:03:59.120 --> 00:04:02.560
You don't have enough information yet.
00:04:03.039 --> 00:04:07.680
After Katrina passed, I started trying to get back to the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
00:04:07.919 --> 00:04:10.879
Law enforcement was telling people not to go in.
00:04:11.199 --> 00:04:14.240
Fortunately, I had media credentials.
00:04:14.400 --> 00:04:18.560
And what I saw when I finally got through, I'll never forget.
00:04:18.879 --> 00:04:20.959
It looked like a war zone.
00:04:21.199 --> 00:04:24.560
The Mississippi Gulf Coast I knew had been ripped apart.
00:04:24.720 --> 00:04:31.759
I had to park several blocks from my house, and as I walked, I noticed something lying among the debris.
00:04:31.920 --> 00:04:33.279
It was a photograph.
00:04:33.519 --> 00:04:38.480
A mother and a child having a picnic, just an ordinary family picture.
00:04:38.720 --> 00:04:40.319
A happy moment, a memory.
00:04:40.480 --> 00:04:44.079
I picked it up, and one thought went through my mind.
00:04:44.480 --> 00:04:46.240
Did they survive?
00:04:46.480 --> 00:04:48.000
I don't know who they were.
00:04:48.160 --> 00:04:50.560
I didn't know where that photograph came from.
00:04:50.800 --> 00:04:56.240
But standing there holding somebody else's memory made the devastation personal.
00:04:56.480 --> 00:05:02.639
Hurricanes don't just destroy buildings, they scatter pieces of people's lives.
00:05:02.959 --> 00:05:08.720
I continued toward my house, and my neighbor Kenny saw me and said, Hey Ron, it's terrible.
00:05:08.879 --> 00:05:15.120
Well I walked up my driveway to the front door, and for some crazy reason I tried my key.
00:05:15.360 --> 00:05:18.800
I don't know why there wasn't much left to unlock.
00:05:19.040 --> 00:05:23.120
I finally kicked the door down, and mud was everywhere.
00:05:23.279 --> 00:05:30.639
The refrigerator was upside down, the French doors were gone, and there was a water line about eight feet high inside our home.
00:05:30.879 --> 00:05:31.920
Eight feet.
00:05:32.240 --> 00:05:35.519
We had lost practically everything.
00:05:35.839 --> 00:05:39.199
And in that moment, friends, I cried.
00:05:39.920 --> 00:05:42.399
At that moment, I wasn't the radio guy.
00:05:42.560 --> 00:05:43.680
I wasn't the promoter.
00:05:43.839 --> 00:05:46.959
I wasn't the guy who was supposed to have an answer.
00:05:47.199 --> 00:05:52.800
I was just a man standing all alone in the wreckage of his home.
00:05:53.120 --> 00:05:58.959
But right in the middle of the destruction, I saw something I will never forget.
00:05:59.360 --> 00:06:02.879
On our kitchen table was a bowl of Cheerios.
00:06:03.839 --> 00:06:06.240
And somehow it was dry.
00:06:06.480 --> 00:06:10.480
The water had apparently lifted the table and put it back down.
00:06:10.720 --> 00:06:16.480
Now I'm not going to build a theology around a bowl of Cheerios, but I'll tell you what it did.
00:06:16.720 --> 00:06:17.920
It made me stop.
00:06:18.160 --> 00:06:24.240
In the middle of complete chaos, sometimes there are little things that make you wonder.
00:06:24.560 --> 00:06:27.600
So I gathered whatever clothes I could salvage.
00:06:27.839 --> 00:06:30.000
They were muddy and soaked.
00:06:30.399 --> 00:06:33.680
And I decided I had to go back to Mobile.
00:06:33.839 --> 00:06:40.240
I needed to find a laundromat and get a prepaid phone because there was no communication on the coast.
00:06:40.319 --> 00:06:42.560
I still hadn't talked to my wife in Meridian.
00:06:42.639 --> 00:06:44.720
It had been a few days.
00:06:44.959 --> 00:06:46.800
So I went back to Mobile.
00:06:46.959 --> 00:06:50.720
I bought a prepaid phone so I could finally call my wife.
00:06:50.800 --> 00:06:52.720
And what a conversation that was.
00:06:52.959 --> 00:06:54.879
Then I found a laundromat.
00:06:55.199 --> 00:07:01.439
And there I sat watching my muddy clothes go around and around in that washing machine.
00:07:01.680 --> 00:07:07.839
Everything in my life felt like it had been thrown into the same violent spin.
00:07:08.079 --> 00:07:10.240
But I knew three things.
00:07:10.560 --> 00:07:17.360
I was alive, my family was alive, and Jesus was still Jesus.
00:07:17.920 --> 00:07:29.759
Sometimes faith looks like sitting in a laundromat with what you've salvaged in a basket and saying, Jesus, I don't know what happens next, but I'm still here.
00:07:30.079 --> 00:07:33.920
There was another kind of loss that is even harder to explain.
00:07:34.079 --> 00:07:38.399
Have you ever thought about how many memories are attached to places?
00:07:38.639 --> 00:07:49.040
You know, weddings, graduations, birthdays, family reunions, restaurants where you celebrated, places where you laughed with friends, homes where children grew up.
00:07:49.279 --> 00:07:54.160
Driving along the beach after Katrina was very difficult for me.
00:07:54.399 --> 00:08:01.120
I'd look for a familiar place connected to some beautiful memory, and it wasn't there.
00:08:01.439 --> 00:08:04.399
Sometimes there was nothing but a foundation.
00:08:04.720 --> 00:08:12.079
The building was gone, the trees were gone, and sometimes the entire neighborhood was gone.
00:08:12.399 --> 00:08:20.399
But if Katrina taught me something, it taught me that losing the place that's special to you doesn't mean you lose the memory.
00:08:20.560 --> 00:08:24.480
A storm can take a building, it can't take the birthday you celebrated there.
00:08:24.720 --> 00:08:29.439
It can't take the wedding, it can't take the laughter, it can't take the love.
00:08:29.680 --> 00:08:34.320
Some things are stored somewhere no hurricane can reach.
00:08:34.480 --> 00:08:37.519
Well, eventually I made it back to the radio station.
00:08:37.759 --> 00:08:40.000
And here's something incredible.
00:08:40.320 --> 00:08:46.080
The building, a little White House built in the 50s, had survived.
00:08:46.159 --> 00:08:53.039
And after the most destructive hurricane to ever hit our area, we only lost one shingle.
00:08:53.279 --> 00:08:53.919
One.
00:08:54.240 --> 00:09:01.679
Engineers from Tupelo were already on site working to get us broadcasting on generator power.
00:09:01.840 --> 00:09:07.200
And suddenly that little Christian radio station became much more than a radio station.
00:09:07.360 --> 00:09:09.759
It became a gathering place.
00:09:10.159 --> 00:09:12.000
People slept on the floors.
00:09:12.159 --> 00:09:13.919
We cooked breakfast outside.
00:09:14.080 --> 00:09:16.879
Supplies came in, teams went out.
00:09:17.279 --> 00:09:22.799
People would tell us what they needed, and we would put that over the radio.
00:09:23.039 --> 00:09:26.559
And these wonderful Gulf Coast people responded.
00:09:26.799 --> 00:09:31.519
Our station's theme was the light of the Gulf Coast.
00:09:31.759 --> 00:09:36.960
After Katrina, those words meant something completely different.
00:09:37.200 --> 00:09:42.960
Because when everything around you was dark, light matters.
00:09:43.279 --> 00:09:49.679
Then a man came in to my office and said something that changed the way I looked at my past.
00:09:50.000 --> 00:09:57.039
He started talking about everything that I had done before becoming the manager of the radio station.
00:09:57.360 --> 00:10:04.559
Promotions, events, organizing people, public relations, solving problems, getting things done.
00:10:04.799 --> 00:10:11.519
And basically he said, Ron, God has been training you for this time in your life.
00:10:11.759 --> 00:10:12.320
Wow.
00:10:12.639 --> 00:10:14.559
I never thought about it that way.
00:10:14.720 --> 00:10:22.720
All those years of promoting, producing events, all the pressure, all the problems, all the times when something went wrong and I had to figure it out.
00:10:23.039 --> 00:10:25.519
What if that wasn't just my past?
00:10:26.480 --> 00:10:28.799
What if it was preparation?
00:10:29.200 --> 00:10:31.200
I call it God's boot camp.
00:10:31.440 --> 00:10:36.639
You may be looking at something in your past right now and thinking, what a waste.
00:10:36.879 --> 00:10:37.919
Maybe it wasn't.
00:10:38.080 --> 00:10:42.960
Maybe God will use something you learned 10 years ago for something you can't even see today.
00:10:43.120 --> 00:10:48.240
I have discovered that some lessons don't make sense while you are learning them.
00:10:48.480 --> 00:10:51.279
They make sense when you finally need them.
00:10:51.919 --> 00:10:56.960
What looks like punishment today may become preparation for tomorrow.
00:10:57.200 --> 00:10:59.919
So don't prejudge your circumstances.
00:11:00.240 --> 00:11:02.399
God can use all of it.
00:11:02.639 --> 00:11:09.759
One day after Katrina, I went to my home church, Trinity United Methodist Church in Gulfport for a hot meal.
00:11:09.919 --> 00:11:11.840
And friends, there was a line out the door.
00:11:11.919 --> 00:11:18.799
And in that line were bank presidents, lawyers, teachers, construction workers, even a Mississippi Supreme Court judge.
00:11:18.960 --> 00:11:22.639
People with money, people without money, people with impressive titles.
00:11:22.799 --> 00:11:24.320
Katrina didn't care.
00:11:24.559 --> 00:11:27.039
Everybody needed the same thing.
00:11:27.279 --> 00:11:28.399
A hot meal.
00:11:28.639 --> 00:11:32.240
Hurricane Katrina was the great equalizer.
00:11:32.399 --> 00:11:39.600
We spend an awful lot of our lives worrying about things that don't matter nearly as much as we think they do.
00:11:40.080 --> 00:11:44.159
Titles, status, possessions, who's important, who has more.
00:11:44.720 --> 00:11:46.000
Then life happens.
00:11:46.159 --> 00:11:49.200
And suddenly we remember we're all human.
00:11:49.440 --> 00:11:50.559
We all need grace.
00:11:50.720 --> 00:11:52.240
We all need each other.
00:11:52.480 --> 00:11:55.039
And every one of us needs Jesus.
00:11:55.200 --> 00:12:01.679
And then something beautiful started happening along the Gulf Coast and into New Orleans.
00:12:02.000 --> 00:12:05.519
People began arriving from all over America.
00:12:06.240 --> 00:12:14.080
Not an army carrying weapons, an army carrying food, water, tools, supplies, campers, and love.
00:12:14.480 --> 00:12:15.600
People told me.
00:12:15.840 --> 00:12:21.039
They were in their kitchen cooking or watching TV and they felt God nudging them.
00:12:21.360 --> 00:12:23.279
Go help my children.
00:12:23.519 --> 00:12:26.799
And they came and they came and they came.
00:12:27.039 --> 00:12:31.360
One ministry brought camper after camper to the Gulf Coast.
00:12:31.600 --> 00:12:37.840
More than 20 were eventually given to ministers and families who needed somewhere to live.
00:12:38.080 --> 00:12:41.919
A couple from Kentucky brought a camper from my family.
00:12:42.080 --> 00:12:45.679
They put it in our driveway and then they handed me the title.
00:12:45.919 --> 00:12:47.200
This is yours, Ron.
00:12:47.360 --> 00:12:49.279
Friends, I'll never forget that.
00:12:49.600 --> 00:12:59.440
The Bible tells us not to forget to show hospitality to strangers because some of us have entertained angels without knowing it.
00:12:59.679 --> 00:13:08.720
Well, I don't know who all those people were who came to the Mississippi Gulf Coast after Katrina, but I'll tell you what I do believe.
00:13:08.960 --> 00:13:12.639
I believe God sent us a host of angels.
00:13:12.799 --> 00:13:25.519
Some drove pickup trucks, some pulled campers, some carried cases of water, some cooked meals, some cleared debris, some prayed, some hugged people who had nothing left.
00:13:25.759 --> 00:13:30.720
They didn't have wings that I could see, but they showed up.
00:13:31.200 --> 00:13:36.639
It was Jesus with work gloves on, Jesus behind the wheel of a truck.
00:13:36.960 --> 00:13:40.960
Jesus handing somebody a bottle of water.
00:13:41.200 --> 00:13:49.840
Friends, God is so good that sometimes when you go through a storm, He sends people right into the middle of it with you.
00:13:50.480 --> 00:13:57.600
And don't get so focused looking for a miracle that you miss the person God just sent to your door.
00:13:57.759 --> 00:14:00.159
Here's something I want you to understand.
00:14:00.320 --> 00:14:03.919
While all of this was happening, I was hurting too.
00:14:04.159 --> 00:14:07.360
My home was destroyed, my family was displaced.
00:14:07.600 --> 00:14:12.240
I was rebuilding a radio station while trying to rebuild my own life.
00:14:12.559 --> 00:14:16.240
But every day I went on the air, I had to give people hope.
00:14:16.399 --> 00:14:17.519
I had to encourage them.
00:14:17.679 --> 00:14:19.840
I had to tell them we're going to get through this.
00:14:20.000 --> 00:14:21.679
And you know something, my friend?
00:14:22.000 --> 00:14:25.679
A lot of those days, I was actually talking to myself.
00:14:26.000 --> 00:14:28.080
I needed to hear it too.
00:14:28.240 --> 00:14:30.399
That's another lesson Katrina taught me.
00:14:30.559 --> 00:14:33.440
You can be hurting and still be useful.
00:14:33.600 --> 00:14:38.080
You don't have to have everything figured out before God can use you.
00:14:38.320 --> 00:14:43.519
You don't have to be completely healed before you can encourage somebody else.
00:14:43.840 --> 00:14:50.000
Helping somebody through their storm gives you the strength to keep walking through yours.
00:14:50.240 --> 00:14:54.240
Now, during the aftermath, I said something on the radio that shocks some people.
00:14:54.399 --> 00:14:58.559
I said, I think one day we may thank God for Katrina.
00:14:58.720 --> 00:15:04.080
Now listen carefully, I wasn't thanking God that people died or thanking God that homes were destroyed.
00:15:04.240 --> 00:15:06.159
And I wasn't thanking God for suffering.
00:15:06.480 --> 00:15:19.600
What I meant was that there may be a day that we can look back and recognize what surviving that storm produced in us resilience, compassion, courage, perspective, faith.
00:15:19.919 --> 00:15:25.679
We discovered we could lose almost everything and still get up tomorrow morning.
00:15:25.919 --> 00:15:31.279
We discovered possessions can disappear, but purpose doesn't have to.
00:15:31.519 --> 00:15:36.720
We discovered life can change overnight, but Jesus doesn't.
00:15:37.039 --> 00:15:40.559
Twenty years later, I have the evidence.
00:15:40.799 --> 00:15:46.960
Evidence that tells me, Ron, you have been through storms before.
00:15:47.279 --> 00:15:51.360
God was there then and he will be there again.
00:15:51.679 --> 00:16:00.080
That's why I asked you at the beginning of the show, what are you believing when everything around you looks destroyed or in shambles?
00:16:00.559 --> 00:16:15.679
Because circumstances will talk to you, fear will talk to you, your bank account will talk to you, the doctor's report will talk to you, the empty chair will talk to you, the termination letter will talk to you, but those things don't get to decide what you believe.
00:16:15.919 --> 00:16:21.360
Here's something from my signature series on belief that I want you to remember.
00:16:22.080 --> 00:16:30.960
I cannot see what God is doing is not the same thing as God is not doing anything.
00:16:31.200 --> 00:16:33.519
That's a biblical optimism.
00:16:33.919 --> 00:16:38.480
Biblical optimism doesn't pretend everything is wonderful.
00:16:38.960 --> 00:16:41.039
Realism says this is difficult.
00:16:41.279 --> 00:16:43.919
Belief says, okay, what's my next step?
00:16:44.080 --> 00:16:44.879
What can I learn?
00:16:45.039 --> 00:16:46.080
Who can I talk to?
00:16:46.320 --> 00:16:47.759
What haven't I tried?
00:16:47.919 --> 00:16:49.679
What is my next move?
00:16:49.919 --> 00:16:55.039
And most importantly, Jesus, what are you trying to show me?
00:16:55.279 --> 00:17:01.519
So, friends, don't let a temporary circumstance become a permanent belief.
00:17:01.759 --> 00:17:09.200
Don't let yesterday right tomorrow, and don't let fear make decisions that belong to faith.
00:17:09.440 --> 00:17:17.519
Now let me fast forward 20 years, because there's another part of this story I couldn't have possibly known in 2005.
00:17:17.920 --> 00:17:35.200
Remember that little White House, my little safety net, my light of the Gulf Coast job, the radio station that survived Katrina, the place where we broadcast hope, where supplies were coordinated, where so much ministry happened.
00:17:35.440 --> 00:17:42.880
Well, in July of 2025, American Family Radio practically gave me that little White House.
00:17:43.200 --> 00:17:44.480
Think about that.
00:17:45.039 --> 00:17:46.720
Twenty years later.
00:17:47.039 --> 00:17:49.200
Today, those are my offices.
00:17:49.359 --> 00:17:52.079
I record my podcast and radio show there.
00:17:52.160 --> 00:17:55.440
It's also where I work on my Christmas City gift show.
00:17:55.680 --> 00:18:09.519
Ministry, radio, podcasting, promotions, Christmas City, so many pieces of my life somehow came full circle right back to this beautiful little white house I'm in right now.
00:18:10.079 --> 00:18:17.039
If you had told me while I was sitting in that mobile laundromat with all my muddy clothes, I wouldn't have believed you.
00:18:17.279 --> 00:18:22.880
If you had told me while I was standing in eight feet of flood damage, I couldn't have imagined it.
00:18:23.039 --> 00:18:24.160
But that's the point.
00:18:24.480 --> 00:18:25.759
Only God knew.
00:18:25.920 --> 00:18:33.200
That's why I don't want you to make a permanent judgment about your life based on what it looks like today.
00:18:33.519 --> 00:18:35.839
You don't know what God knows.
00:18:36.079 --> 00:18:45.440
Sometimes you have to live long enough to look backward and finally understand what you could never see looking forward.
00:18:45.680 --> 00:18:48.880
So here's Ron's next step for this week.
00:18:49.119 --> 00:18:51.680
I want you to identify your Katrina.
00:18:51.839 --> 00:18:53.839
What's the storm you're facing right now?
00:18:54.000 --> 00:18:54.720
Name it.
00:18:54.960 --> 00:18:56.880
Don't pretend it doesn't exist.
00:18:57.440 --> 00:18:59.680
Then have a conversation with Jesus.
00:18:59.920 --> 00:19:01.680
No fancy prayer, just talk.
00:19:01.839 --> 00:19:05.039
Tell him you're angry, tell him you're scared, tell him you're confused.
00:19:05.200 --> 00:19:08.640
Tell him, Jesus, I don't know what to do.
00:19:09.039 --> 00:19:10.799
Then ask him one question.
00:19:11.440 --> 00:19:14.000
Jesus, what's my next step?
00:19:14.319 --> 00:19:17.359
Not how is this whole story going to end?
00:19:17.920 --> 00:19:20.640
Just what's my next step?
00:19:20.880 --> 00:19:22.640
And when you see it, take it.
00:19:22.880 --> 00:19:25.680
Because belief requires movement.
00:19:26.079 --> 00:19:30.400
Believe, move, learn, adjust, and believe again.
00:19:30.640 --> 00:19:38.240
My friends, I'm going to take a short break, and when I return, I want to talk directly to the person who's standing in the middle of a storm right now.
00:19:38.480 --> 00:19:49.279
Because when you're standing in the wreckage, the chaos, it's almost impossible to imagine that one day you may look back and see something you simply cannot see today.
00:19:49.519 --> 00:19:51.599
If that's you, don't go anywhere.
00:19:51.759 --> 00:19:53.039
I'll be right back.
00:19:53.279 --> 00:19:57.920
You're listening to Get the Hell Out of Your Life with your host, Ron Myers.
00:19:58.319 --> 00:20:01.839
Real stories, real struggles, and real hope.
00:20:04.000 --> 00:20:06.400
Here's a refreshing word just for you today.
00:20:06.559 --> 00:20:10.000
It comes from the book of Hebrews, chapter 13, verse 8.
00:20:10.319 --> 00:20:15.839
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
00:20:16.319 --> 00:20:18.160
Be refreshed today.
00:20:19.680 --> 00:20:25.119
Hi, this is Candy Anderson Ferris, bringing you a message of hope.
00:20:25.759 --> 00:20:30.559
One of my favorite verses that speaks to God's forgiveness is found in Romans.
00:20:30.880 --> 00:20:37.359
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
00:20:37.599 --> 00:20:45.279
Because through Jesus Christ, the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.
00:20:45.519 --> 00:20:49.359
No matter what you've done, Jesus died for you.
00:20:49.680 --> 00:20:53.599
As his child, you and I are forgiven.
00:20:54.240 --> 00:21:05.119
There was a precious example, one of those battle preach moments that happened several years ago when my twin grandbabies were just little itsy bitsy things.
00:21:05.680 --> 00:21:15.119
Bodhi had hit his sister Tegan, and she just stood him up, put his face in her hands, and said, Look at me.
00:21:16.160 --> 00:21:18.160
What did you do to me?
00:21:19.680 --> 00:21:23.119
She said again, what did you do to me?
00:21:23.680 --> 00:21:26.000
And he said, I hit you.
00:21:26.720 --> 00:21:28.640
And she said, That's right.
00:21:30.000 --> 00:21:31.759
Now are you sorry?
00:21:32.640 --> 00:21:35.279
And he said, Yes.
00:21:36.559 --> 00:21:47.279
And at that very moment, she took him in her arms, wrapped him up, and said, I forgive you.
00:21:48.240 --> 00:21:53.119
While we were yet sinners, Christ Jesus died for us.
00:21:54.079 --> 00:21:59.680
His grace, his forgiveness, his mercy is unfailing.
00:22:00.559 --> 00:22:02.240
He knew we were sinners.
00:22:02.480 --> 00:22:04.720
He knew we were depraved people.
00:22:04.880 --> 00:22:14.640
But yet he died for us and he takes us in his arms and he wraps us up in his precious grace.
00:22:16.240 --> 00:22:27.920
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and he is just to forgive us of all our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
00:22:28.240 --> 00:22:31.920
Remember today, you are forgiven.
00:22:36.000 --> 00:22:37.839
How do you get the hell out of your life?
00:22:38.000 --> 00:22:40.559
Get on your knees and cry out to the Lord.
00:22:40.799 --> 00:22:42.160
He hears you right where you are.
00:22:42.319 --> 00:22:43.519
How to get the hell out of your life?
00:22:43.599 --> 00:22:45.200
Well, yeah, replace it with Jesus.
00:22:45.279 --> 00:22:50.400
We gotta be born again, born of the Spirit, and that's by trusting Jesus Christ, turning from our sins and trusting Jesus.
00:22:50.559 --> 00:22:51.920
How do you get the hell out of your life?
00:22:52.079 --> 00:22:52.720
Oh gosh.
00:22:53.200 --> 00:22:53.599
Jesus.
00:22:54.000 --> 00:22:54.240
Jesus.
00:22:54.480 --> 00:22:55.519
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus.
00:22:57.279 --> 00:22:58.799
Welcome back, my friends.
00:22:59.039 --> 00:23:05.119
And before we go, I want to talk to the person who feels like life has just knocked the wind out of you.
00:23:05.359 --> 00:23:08.000
Maybe your Katrina isn't a hurricane.
00:23:08.160 --> 00:23:15.839
Maybe it's a diagnosis, a divorce, a death, a termination, a financial disaster, a dream that didn't happen.
00:23:16.079 --> 00:23:23.039
And right now, you're looking at the wreckage thinking, how can anything good possibly come from this?
00:23:23.359 --> 00:23:26.000
Now I don't know how your story will unfold.
00:23:26.160 --> 00:23:34.079
I can't promise when the circumstances will change, but I can tell you what my experiences have taught me.
00:23:34.480 --> 00:23:39.200
Don't write the ending while you're still in the middle of the storm.
00:23:39.519 --> 00:23:41.759
Twenty years ago, I couldn't see today.
00:23:42.160 --> 00:23:45.039
I couldn't see that little white house becoming mine.
00:23:45.359 --> 00:23:52.160
I couldn't see myself sitting there years later recording a podcast and radio show that goes around the world.
00:23:52.319 --> 00:23:54.160
I couldn't see the full circle.
00:23:54.319 --> 00:23:55.279
But God could.
00:23:55.440 --> 00:23:58.400
So don't prejudge the middle of your story, my friend.
00:23:58.640 --> 00:24:04.240
Right now, all you may see is mud, but God sees farther than you do.
00:24:04.559 --> 00:24:08.319
And here's where I've landed after all these years.
00:24:08.880 --> 00:24:14.000
When you have Jesus, you have everything you ultimately need.
00:24:14.400 --> 00:24:19.359
You are accepted, you are forgiven, you are cleansed, you belong.
00:24:19.680 --> 00:24:23.519
He lives in you, he's with you twenty-four hours a day.
00:24:23.839 --> 00:24:33.119
He's not going to divorce you, he's not going to kick you out of the family, he's not going to wake up tomorrow and decide he's finished with you.
00:24:33.519 --> 00:24:37.039
No, Jesus is your anchor, he's your rock.
00:24:37.119 --> 00:24:39.839
And when the storm comes, grab onto that rock.
00:24:40.079 --> 00:24:45.440
Have those conversations with Jesus every day, especially when you wake up in the morning.
00:24:45.519 --> 00:24:49.599
And before the world gets your attention, give Jesus yours.
00:24:49.839 --> 00:24:55.920
And when you can't understand what he's doing, remind yourself, well, I can't see what God is doing.
00:24:56.160 --> 00:25:00.319
It's not the same thing though as God is not doing anything.
00:25:00.720 --> 00:25:11.680
My friend, storms pass, lives get rebuilt, scars become stories, stories become testimonies, and testimonies give somebody else the courage to believe.
00:25:11.920 --> 00:25:16.319
If God brought them through it, he can bring me through it too.
00:25:16.640 --> 00:25:18.400
That's why I tell my story.
00:25:18.799 --> 00:25:28.160
I will be back next week with another grace-filled episode of Get the Hell Out of Your Life available wherever you listen to podcasts.
00:25:28.400 --> 00:25:36.079
And remember this: you were created on purpose for a purpose by a God who loves you more than you can imagine.
00:25:36.319 --> 00:25:40.240
Now go live like you believe it.
00:25:40.480 --> 00:25:45.200
And one final thought from a guy who has lived through a lady named Katrina.
00:25:45.440 --> 00:25:52.720
The storm may change your life, but with Jesus, the storm doesn't get to write the ending.
00:26:02.720 --> 00:26:07.359
Today's show was produced by Ron Myers Ministries, a listener-supported ministry.
