00:00:09
Speaker 1: What's going on?
00:00:09
Speaker 2: It's your boy, Nick. I'm here with Super Producer Jay. How you doing, bro?
00:00:14
Speaker 1: I'm good, bro.
00:00:15
Speaker 2: You?
00:00:15
Speaker 1: I'm all right.
00:00:17
Speaker 2: Kenneth B.
00:00:17
Speaker 3: Inge.
00:00:17
Speaker 2: How you doing, man?
00:00:19
Speaker 1: Hola. Doing well.
00:00:21
Speaker 4: And I am Spike Lue of the On Deck TV show and another week in the books.
00:00:24
Speaker 2: How you doing, sir? What up, dope?
00:00:27
Speaker 5: And you now tune in to another episode of the Frames Per Second podcast. And in this episode, we are continuing on with our weekly recaps of the hit HBO original series.
00:00:38
Speaker 2: From the DC Universe, titled Lanterns.
00:00:41
Speaker 5: With this recap being dedicated to Episode 7, titled The Jordan Boys Legacy. We got one more episode left. This was the penultimate episode. So, next week is the last week, y'all. So, how did y'all feel about this week's episode that is serving us up for next week?
00:00:58
Speaker 2: I'll start with you, Jay. It was good.
00:01:05
Speaker 6: It's... It got me nervous, but it was good. That's the best way to put it.
00:01:12
Speaker 5: I feel like similar to last week's episode, they ended well, but for some reason throughout the episode, I wasn't completely into it.
00:01:25
Speaker 2: There were spots.
00:01:26
Speaker 6: It was up and down for me, but overall, it's still good. I do feel like what we said after episode five is coming true a little bit.
00:01:35
Speaker 1: What is that?
00:01:35
Speaker 2: That is my fear.
00:01:36
Speaker 1: As far as.
00:01:37
Speaker 6: that episode five was like the peak and the back end is like, all right, it's, it's okay. So maybe I'm hopeful that episode eight is going to bring it all together based on the, the reveal at the end of this episode. But these last two episodes has just been felt. They, they don't, they're bad episodes.
00:01:54
Speaker 5: They just aren't the highs that I was feeling in the first, the first half of the season.
00:02:00
Speaker 1: Gotcha.
00:02:00
Speaker 2: What about you, Lou? I think I'm in the same place as Jayla.
00:02:04
Speaker 7: There's just, wasn't bad, but it was probably my least favorite episode, and it keeps gradually getting worse. Not worse in a bad way, like I can't watch this, I don't like it or anything like that, but around episode five, as we were saying, and Channing just said, it's like, okay, that was fire.
00:02:19
Speaker 2: That was dope.
00:02:20
Speaker 7: Everything they've done up to this point is good. And I know these last three weeks has just been like, okay, it's cool.
00:02:31
Speaker 1: Um.
00:02:33
Speaker 3: I still get my popcorn and watch the show, man. I think that hasn't changed. It's a lot of dialogue happening now where it's almost like they're... Both of them on camera are great. And I think they still want to try to maintain that chemistry that they have. But this very much feels like the last couple of episodes is like we're trying to work our way for a second season. But didn't one of you guys or somebody say that this was it? They have already confirmed there isn't another season?
00:03:11
Speaker 2: I don't know if there's a.
00:03:12
Speaker 5: There's not a confirmation of a yes and a no, but I think I gave my feelings of, and anybody else can chime in, that I don't think there will be a second season. I think this is just... Because this show was already in the works before. I believe even James Gunn took over D.C., So this show predates any of the plans that they have. I guess they're just now including it in everything.
00:03:36
Speaker 2: But I'm viewing this.
00:03:38
Speaker 5: From the standpoint of this is just to launch pad us to Superman 2. And then after that, it's whatever. But I think this show costs a lot. And these actors are getting this actors cost a lot, too. I don't know if it's going to get a second season.
00:03:52
Speaker 1: How does the show call?
00:03:53
Speaker 3: I don't think the show would cost a lot unless they saved all their their budget for the back end with.
00:03:58
Speaker 1: This off-world planet we're on.
00:04:00
Speaker 3: But, yeah, I mean, you introduce the Sinestro just for one more episode, and that's it?
00:04:07
Speaker 1: Like, I don't know.
00:04:08
Speaker 3: I don't understand what they're trying to accomplish with the back half of this series if they are not setting up for something much, much larger.
00:04:20
Speaker 5: I don't know if it's just one season or not, because, I mean, I feel like there's going to be a season two. You could have said the same thing about Watchmen, though. You know what I'm saying? These are the same people that did that.
00:04:37
Speaker 2: Yeah, but I don't know. I feel like they're still setting up a seat.
00:04:40
Speaker 6: I think having Howe in this position as far as he's dead, but he's a hologram, he could still find a way to use him as compared to just making it a one-shot, like he's dead, or trying to maneuver.
00:04:54
Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying?
00:04:55
Speaker 6: I feel like that's a way for them to continue the story when the story moves on Um, but I also, I ain't a hundred percent sure Nick, but I don't know if it, if it was a full show before James Gunn, what I was told, and I might be wrong too, is that it was a true detective, like basically a throwaway, like at the beginning it was like true detect and they just kind of pigeonholed it.
00:05:19
Speaker 2: So I might be wrong, but maybe that's just the influence.
00:05:22
Speaker 5: I think, I think it's more of like, that's how hard TV shows, especially superhero TV.
00:05:27
Speaker 4: Shows get made these days. Like, there was a whole.
00:05:30
Speaker 5: Plan with the Snyderverse and all that stuff that I was going to include lanterns at some point. But obviously, that got nixed once they put James Gunn in charge. I think that shit was trash.
00:05:40
Speaker 3: I know.
00:05:41
Speaker 2: I'm just saying.
00:05:41
Speaker 4: But, like, I feel like those conversations were happening during that era.
00:05:44
Speaker 5: And then once it got nixed, it was like, we have this true detective script that we haven't used. This would be a great merge of putting these two worlds together, you know. cause lanterns are cops, they're space cops. So it'd be like, it kind of would like blend well together. And so far from what we've all said, it has, but I feel like, again, I'm thinking this is all for a launch pad for the movies. I don't think they will spend as much money. And I say this a lot of money cause I'm, I'm just talking about the actors and the spaceship. Granted, it hasn't been too much spaceship, but it's been enough to where I will say this is somewhat of an expensive show. Um, that I think it would just justify doing a movie later, especially if Aaron Pierre takes off the way I believe most people think he is. And obviously it's a DC thing, so it's a comic book movie or a comic book show slash movie that can translate. So those are my thoughts. Now, it could be a season two. There could be an article released tomorrow. But I'm just saying it's just too much going on for us. There's too much and also very little going on for it not to be a movie. Like, I don't see how you can elongate eight hours for it to justify a TV show versus saying like, all right, we can give you a two and a half movie, you know, finishing off where this picks up or picking up where this finishes off. But I enjoyed this episode. I've enjoyed all this stuff. I think, Ken, to your point, the chemistry between Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre is what drives this show, what drove this episode for me.
00:07:13
Speaker 2: I feel like.
00:07:16
Speaker 5: I am as locked in as I was in Episode 5, Jay, for different reasons. Because I like dialogue. Lou, that's why I'm surprised you are coming down off the high of Episode 5, because you are a dialogue person. And the banter between them has been really interesting to me.
00:07:31
Speaker 4: And we'll get into it. Maybe we'll find different....
00:07:35
Speaker 5: Likes for it, but I really like this episode.
00:07:37
Speaker 2: Now, I am worried, Jay.
00:07:38
Speaker 5: I thought you were going to say, as far as you're worried, is will he actually be a lantern? Because we only got one hour left, and I'm like, hey, this nigga. I told you straight up, I can't listen if he be a lantern or not.
00:07:50
Speaker 2: No, no, I get that.
00:07:52
Speaker 5: I'm just saying, like, I thought you were worried, like, okay, that's confirmed now, based off we only got an hour left, but this nigga is the furthest away from.
00:08:00
Speaker 2: Getting a ring. Yeah, I heard that he wore a thong.
00:08:03
Speaker 1: Exactly.
00:08:05
Speaker 4: But at this point, I'm submitting to the show.
00:08:08
Speaker 1: It is what it is.
00:08:09
Speaker 2: He could end up with it or not.
00:08:12
Speaker 4: But if he don't, Ken, it may just be y'all three for season two.
00:08:15
Speaker 2: Let me know when this nigga get it. I'll pick it up from there.
00:08:20
Speaker 5: But we start off this episode with a flashback as we travel back to 1975 and learn about how Jordan's upbringing and get introduced to his father, Martin.
00:08:31
Speaker 2: Ken, what did you think about how we start off this episode?
00:08:36
Speaker 1: I liked it. I liked it. It gave us just enough... In this small window, it really.
00:08:43
Speaker 3: Gave us some insight into Hal himself and his makeup. You know, with his kid not wanting to give the ball up for the complete game and willing to fight his own team.
00:08:59
Speaker 1: The whole team.
00:09:01
Speaker 3: Very reminiscent of what he did to... It made his... turn on john stewart make a whole bunch of sense because um so if he wanted to do that for them he damn sure gonna do whatever it takes to complete the.
00:09:16
Speaker 1: Mission and seeing his dad.
00:09:20
Speaker 3: What i like about his dad because you can kind of see his dad had just enough of the mannerisms of how as an adult but not like all the way. But it was just enough in the way he kind of phrased stuff, the way he kind of moved. He was like, hey, what you got there? I was like, man, that actor did a really good job of being really, really subtle with that.
00:09:42
Speaker 1: But I'm with the dad, man.
00:09:44
Speaker 3: Like, my son is this close to a complete game and you take him out?
00:09:50
Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. That's all that fucking matters. So I'm with him.
00:09:54
Speaker 2: Lou, what was your thoughts on Martin?
00:09:57
Speaker 7: I'm with the dad, too. Pull my son and then... and he's that close to a complete game. Yep, going to fight the shortstop and the whole team and keep the ball. You're making a bad decision.
00:10:07
Speaker 2: I liked it. I liked that he fought the coach. All that worked for me.
00:10:12
Speaker 3: And I think the other thing is just having them sit down and they kind of use that later on in the show, just the conversation that they were having, just that bonding moment, you know, him holding on to the ball and not wanting to relinquish the ball is also very similar to him wanting to hold on to the ring and not letting go of the ring as well. And just the conversation that the two had about, you know, just kind of legacy, really, and giving him, like, some insight into his dad.
00:10:47
Speaker 1: And where he's at. And really just prepping him for what the reveal was later. So, no, it was good. It was good. I like what they did here.
00:10:56
Speaker 5: Yeah, I like how they, like you said, Ken, like, from a young kid, he was always like, if I'm close to greatness or holding greatness or being great, I'm not going to let that shit go easy. Whether that's a complete game as a kid or me being one of the best or the first Earth Green Lantern. So, like you mentioned, like, you see how, you know, your childhood always influences you as an adult.
00:11:21
Speaker 2: But, Jay, I wanted to ask you, have you seen Talladega Nights? Mm-hmm.
00:11:26
Speaker 5: This surrounded me of some, if you're not first, you're last, Ricky Bobby shit, as far as, like, how we opened up. In a way, that's why I'm not with Ken and Spike. I'm like, as far as how it works toward the character, yeah, but as a parent, I'm like, that's dumb.
00:11:43
Speaker 2: It was all around dumb. Like, yeah, I get it.
00:11:45
Speaker 6: You want your child to have it, but that shit was dumb. That shit was dumb. It was straight up dumb, bro.
00:11:53
Speaker 5: I think fighting the coach in front of his kid is the dumbest part of it. What he said, I don't disagree his pushback because it was like... Because when he asked the coach, like, walk me through your thought process. Like, oh, you took him out because this other kid good? He was like, nah, not really. And I'm like, okay, then I'm confused. Why did you take him out if he was doing– it's kind of like, Jay, if you hot on the court and you made five threes in a row and you down by three, why would the coach take you out for somebody cold? I'm just saying– They weren't losing. That's the point. No, but I'm saying, like, why would you take me out if you know I'm hot? I can finish this game. Then he said there were, like– It was, like, two outs. He described the situation, I thought.
00:12:34
Speaker 2: It was, like, running.
00:12:35
Speaker 1: Yeah, it was two outs left. The game was basically over.
00:12:39
Speaker 2: Yeah, like, we can just close the game. Exactly. So, the kid who probably don't ever get no shine, he's probably giving him a chance to fit, like. All right, let me give him time. So, whatever. I'm with you, too. I'm with you, Jay.
00:12:53
Speaker 1: Fuck that kid, bro.
00:12:55
Speaker 2: All right, listen.
00:12:56
Speaker 6: At the end of the day, I don't really care that much about that part about the game. I'm also talking about, like, you could have handled that, like, not handling it that way in front of the kid.
00:13:09
Speaker 2: Yes, yes, I agree with you on that. That's what I'm saying. Like, you can't do that in front of the child, bro. Like, you just can't. Like, no.
00:13:16
Speaker 1: That's why that shit was stupid. You're right.
00:13:20
Speaker 3: In terms of how he handled the coach, okay, fine, the violence, whatever.
00:13:24
Speaker 1: But that's who that dad is.
00:13:27
Speaker 2: But even the pushback.
00:13:30
Speaker 1: What pushback?
00:13:31
Speaker 6: Even the pushback about taking my child, like, yeah, you can agree with, like, you can be upset, but you don't let your child see that.
00:13:37
Speaker 2: You should handle it. Like, you could talk about it with the coach without the child.
00:13:41
Speaker 6: Being present and then go tell the child, like, all right, like, this is what happened, blah, blah, blah. But you handled the whole situation in front of your kid.
00:13:46
Speaker 2: Like, that was dumb. That was dumb to do that.
00:13:50
Speaker 1: Spike, we're a transparent family. We can handle that all. All right here in the room. Ain't no need for more conversations. We'll figure everything out right here.
00:14:09
Speaker 5: Not again that's why i'm like i'm half and half can like i think ideally i would want to be fighting the coach over a stupid decision they made where my where my kid can be great but at the same time like jay said you have to set an example and this whole episode is about how his father set examples for him and how that impacted him the rest of his life so.
00:14:32
Speaker 2: The coach was the aggressor, though. Y'all saying it's like hell. Nah, don't do that. Nah, don't do that. He was, though, Jay.
00:14:39
Speaker 7: He stepped up to him first. He was like, how dare you? He would have had me fucked up. But I got you, but it ain't got to be. But that's because he was doing everything. He was siding with the kid.
00:14:51
Speaker 6: In front of him like you can't do that bro like i would understand if he put he yanked the kid out with his hand i was yelling at the kid when he took him out the game like yeah now i gotta correct you in front of my child like i need him to know that we ain't gonna let this shit happen but he's the coach and he took he made a decision like you gotta respect that decision as the coach as the as the manager so you need to handle that behind closed doors you can disagree with it but you got to handle it behind closed door and then talk to your child about it.
00:15:17
Speaker 2: Ideally. You're right. Yeah. Well, I'm telling you now, though.
00:15:24
Speaker 7: I'm telling you now, when the coach say it don't fucking matter to me, when my son's sitting there in front of me, we're going to move some furniture in your little office.
00:15:33
Speaker 2: Me and you, we're going to rearrange your office.
00:15:36
Speaker 1: You know what? Boom, there you go.
00:15:37
Speaker 2: What do you mean, it don't fucking matter? Who are you talking to, bro?
00:15:46
Speaker 1: Your son will look at you like you a punk. You're like, Dad, you going to let him talk to you like that? Oh, and you know it's going to come up later.
00:15:53
Speaker 2: Oh, you ain't going to say that.
00:15:57
Speaker 6: But from the looks of it, it looked like the coach beat his ass in front of his son. So he's still a punk in front of his son. So it don't matter.
00:16:03
Speaker 5: Jay, Jay, Jay, all we know, because it was also pointed out that Hal took on the whole team, Lou.
00:16:11
Speaker 2: He fought everybody. Yeah, he fought everybody. He only can't. He only can't.
00:16:15
Speaker 5: He only came away with a black eye. So I'm like, bro, he must've been scrapped. Yeah.
00:16:19
Speaker 2: I thought about the same thing.
00:16:22
Speaker 5: You want all the niggas and that's all you got. That's why I'm looking at the, uh, at the dad. Like he probably know how to fight. Cause his dad, I mean, of course they were close enough. Like he, dad probably took a punch, but I don't think.
00:16:32
Speaker 2: That coach is going to be with the kid no more.
00:16:35
Speaker 5: But, um, um, we then see Martin take his son to his job there.
00:16:40
Speaker 2: Obviously we know he's a pilot.
00:16:42
Speaker 5: Um, so he's at a hanger, uh, and they're enjoying some popsicles, and his dad tells him more about not only his upbringing, but how his interactions were with Hal's grandfather, who was his dad.
00:16:56
Speaker 2: Ken, what did you think about this conversation?
00:16:58
Speaker 5: Because you've casually dropped about your relationship with your father and how that's impacted you. I was wondering if you got something from this scene.
00:17:11
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:17:12
Speaker 3: It's about, like, okay, so your father's are heroes. And it goes back to one of the things that we reviewed. Your father's growing up with them or you idolized him and all the other stuff. And it seems like he had this viewpoint of his dad and it's, it's standing down to the rest of them. He was telling his dad about how his grandfather was and how his grandfather was talking big shit, you know, how he was talking big shit about living to be a hundred and stuff like that. Um, but you know, it's about also those recipes and passing on those recipes and making sure that you understand where you come from and what your family is all about.
00:18:04
Speaker 1: So I thought it was interesting that he was willing to.
00:18:07
Speaker 3: Share that with them to take this locket and give them this locket at this moment.
00:18:13
Speaker 1: And he was like, well, what about mom? It was like, well, your mom.
00:18:16
Speaker 3: Can't hold this because it's a different type of burden that we share as men in the family. And that particular family is a different type of burden that we share. So I am going to pass this on to you. And when if something happens, then you go get that. And in the box will be all the things that you will need or you get your answer to questions you may have moving forward. And, um, and those things became applicable later on that we, that we learned.
00:18:48
Speaker 5: Jay, did you take this as maybe not in the moment, but did you take this as, uh, especially after the, at the end of the episode, like this was his kind of like his own will and testament that he's vocally given to his son.
00:19:02
Speaker 4: Like he is basically saying, I, I'm not going to be here for long.
00:19:10
Speaker 6: Yeah, I definitely could feel, um, a sense of demise on the horizon when he was talking. Like, it definitely felt like something was coming up, especially how he quickly was like.
00:19:23
Speaker 2: I'm going to be here forever. Like, I'm going to be driving.
00:19:25
Speaker 6: I mean, I'm going to be flying both planes until I'm 100. I could feel there was a sense of, yeah, this isn't going to last long, so I want you to know now. Even the way he gave him the key, all that felt like it was inevitable. Like, it's about to happen soon, so I'm going to go ahead and prepare you now. Even though he was looking at him, it wasn't what a sense of.
00:19:46
Speaker 5: Of pride when he looked at and he looked at him with like, damn, I'm about to do this.
00:19:51
Speaker 6: I got like some emotion of dread that was coming. So, yeah, I definitely felt felt that in that moment. I'll ask you a similar question.
00:20:00
Speaker 5: Like, did you feel like he was talking about some internal depression that him and his. father whose house grandfather dealt with or did you just take this as a face value because you could take it as face value as advice as far as you got to let certain shit go you know i'm saying like.
00:20:16
Speaker 7: I took it as a personal thing that him and his grandfather had both went through like him telling him that about his dad and then you know giving him that information from him so i thought it was more personal than general advice.
00:20:31
Speaker 5: Yeah, I felt like it was brilliant writing that you could take it as just like... Because he was just saying, look how tight you holding on to that ball, bro. Like, the shit been over with. Like, the game's over. We left the school and you holding on to it like you about to throw the pitch at the game. Like, that type of shit is the things that you need to unlearn.
00:20:50
Speaker 2: For you to move forward.
00:20:51
Speaker 5: Because that's the shit that got me and your granddad. Now, I also took it as like... When he was talking, it was like... You know, sometimes when you're around certain family members... you're comfortable enough to talk about the things that they're dealing with, but you're also sliding stuff that you're dealing with too. Like not only, not necessarily projecting, but just calling out. Like I'm saying, I'm saying this out loud because I'm talking to both of us. And obviously as a kid for how he couldn't register that.
00:21:18
Speaker 2: But as a viewer, I'm looking.
00:21:20
Speaker 5: At Martin and I'm like, bro, this nigga, his life is clearly on the edge because if it's not, he's going to take it himself. you know what I'm saying, and to see, and then, again, how we transition from that scene to, we see that he dies shortly after that, Hal still basically looks like he died a week later, I feel like, because Hal still is a young kid, and he's burying him, and then he looks, and then as we're looking up on his grave, we see Hal's grave, like, I thought that transition was brilliant, like, Hal was looking down on himself, like, damn, like, I went out early.
00:21:59
Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying?
00:22:00
Speaker 5: Everybody always talks about you don't want to go out too late and all that other shit, but to go out early and know that, looking down at your own dead body, that's a crazy thing, even if it's a hologram. I just thought that transition from the beginning of this episode to how we get back to 2026 was really great. Jay, what did you think about the conversation Hal and John had when John was trying to catch him up on what happened over the last 10 years once we get back to present day?
00:22:26
Speaker 6: I mean, it was interesting, but I definitely could see it because we were introduced to 20... 2006.
00:22:30
Speaker 2: 2006. Yeah. How before. And we could already tell the difference in him then.
00:22:37
Speaker 6: And so, even the way he interacted with himself when he came back, when they won the water tower, like, you could tell there was a difference in that person. So this interaction here, it was interesting to see, like, how likes this version of John.
00:22:52
Speaker 2: He fucks with John, low-key. And it's like....
00:22:56
Speaker 6: John is like, I really don't fuck with this nigga at all. I don't like you, nigga. And so he can't see the difference. He's like, you that same nigga.
00:23:04
Speaker 5: It's like breaking up with an ex and they done went through their transformation over time. And when you see them all over again, they think they're a brand new person.
00:23:11
Speaker 2: And you like.
00:23:12
Speaker 5: I remember you I remember you from the last interaction yes I don't know the journey you've been on so I can give a fuck.
00:23:20
Speaker 2: You know exactly exactly.
00:23:22
Speaker 6: So this is what that felt like so it was very interesting to see it was funny as hell too but it was interesting to see how he was interacting with him I don't blame John one bit though like I felt him in every sense of it like when we get later on in the episode there's a couple of things I'm like yup that nigga in the right for doing all that.
00:23:39
Speaker 2: Shit what about you Ken what did you think about this conversation.
00:23:45
Speaker 3: I thought it was cool I thought it was really well I didn't know at the time but it definitely kind of set us up for what the episode was.
00:23:56
Speaker 1: Going to be like and it was really going to be.
00:23:58
Speaker 3: Them kind of him learning or getting to learn a new version of Hal that he never got a chance to meet but also getting some additional insight into how Hal felt about him later on in the episode but Yeah, I thought it was cool.
00:24:18
Speaker 4: Lou, I was sad for Hal when he was like, so how'd the funeral go?
00:24:23
Speaker 5: He was like, John was, John don't know how to laugh and shit.
00:24:27
Speaker 7: He was like, everybody cool up, man.
00:24:31
Speaker 2: He said even Mojo was there.
00:24:32
Speaker 5: He was like, bro, I was locked arms with Mojo crying, pouring the 40 ounce.
00:24:38
Speaker 2: He's like, man, that's a planet. Get the fuck out.
00:24:40
Speaker 1: That was good.
00:24:44
Speaker 2: But I see why he did it, though.
00:24:45
Speaker 7: I mean, I understand the back and forth, like what Jalen was saying earlier, about just their dynamic and him meeting another person. And then you seeing him having to deal with the baggage of not fucking with him, being pissed off at him. The other dude, like not even, well, John, not even knowing half of how he feel about him.
00:25:04
Speaker 1: So, yeah, I like this.
00:25:05
Speaker 2: I like the dynamic on his comeback.
00:25:45
Speaker 5: We then see John take Hal after he basically ended that conversation because Hal was asking too many questions.
00:25:50
Speaker 2: All the right ones, of course, but just too many questions.
00:25:53
Speaker 5: But we see now that he knows that he can use the ring and Hal's still there as far as his hologram, he takes him to the storage facility where Hal kept his secret lockbox.
00:26:02
Speaker 4: And as John is trying.
00:26:03
Speaker 5: To get Hal, the hologram Hal, to use his voice, they get into an argument about Hal wanting to see his old thing before.
00:26:13
Speaker 2: All that happens.
00:26:13
Speaker 1: However.
00:26:15
Speaker 5: I want to cut to something real quick, Lou. We got another nigga moment. Because on the way to the lockbox, John called his brothers. And he was asking for money. He was asking for a favor. He wasn't asking for money because it's his money. But he was asking for a favor. We already know how him and Aaron's relationship is based off last week's episode.
00:26:41
Speaker 4: What did you think about this phone conversation and how it went?
00:26:44
Speaker 7: I thought it was interesting. One, that they were trying to question him. Then two, they asked him about the Green Lantern shit. I thought that was funny. And then him even addressing what we were talking about last week about how successful he's been post when he left his town and going to do all the things with the architectural firm that he has or whatever. So I like this. I like the brother's response because that's natural. But again, it's my money. Just go do what I said. I just need you to go pick it up.
00:27:09
Speaker 2: Say it was good.
00:27:10
Speaker 7: But I was surprised he was just so willingly giving that girl $ 300, 000.
00:27:14
Speaker 4: That was my thing, Ken.
00:27:16
Speaker 5: I was like, bro, I thought we had a good laugh about it last review.
00:27:20
Speaker 4: I'm thinking that's the end of it. Lo and behold, this nigga actually, he giving her more.
00:27:25
Speaker 5: Because didn't she say it was just $ 314, 000 and some change?
00:27:29
Speaker 2: He just rounded up.
00:27:30
Speaker 5: To $ 315, 000.
00:27:32
Speaker 1: Yeah, and the watch. Yeah, I'm so disappointed in John with this, man.
00:27:36
Speaker 3: I I keep waiting. I'm like, there has to be another play. And there's no way he's doing this. There's no way he's really going to give her this money. But it looks like he is, man. I hope he doesn't. He got to have something up his sleeve. But unfortunately, I don't think he's that smart to plan something out like that. How would it have worked out? I don't think that's John. John just want to put the end this problem and move on to the next thing. But I did enjoy that conversation. One thing I noticed and I liked about John this episode, and as the season progressed, he's getting blacker and blacker and blacker.
00:28:21
Speaker 1: With each episode.
00:28:24
Speaker 3: Because he used to be this stiff sort of military guy and all this other stuff, really, really uptight.
00:28:30
Speaker 1: But he's loosened a lot.
00:28:33
Speaker 2: So I really like that.
00:28:35
Speaker 7: And money letting him be a nigga, he couldn't at first.
00:28:39
Speaker 5: He wasn't rich enough. Jay, I disagree with Lou. I think it's not the money that's making him, it's his family. Dealing with family as an adult. I know you can speak on that.
00:28:52
Speaker 2: Yeah, that. I mean, it's crazy. Ken said the white man is smarter than the black man. That's crazy. The black man ain't as smart as the white man. I was like, damn, that's crazy. John's just happened to be broad and brute. Um, nah, I think, uh, I.
00:29:24
Speaker 6: Think that with him changing over time, I want to come back to that. There's something at the end of the episode, like a reveal, and I think it makes sense on why like he's kind of like loosening.
00:29:33
Speaker 2: Up a little bit. Um, but there was something else. Can't say. Yeah. I, I, I don't know.
00:29:41
Speaker 6: I don't know what the play is, but I think John is smart enough that I don't think he just going to give it a money. I also think the sheriff got something to do with.
00:29:48
Speaker 1: It.
00:29:49
Speaker 5: So that leads me to getting back to where we are with the locks box situation. Because I was going to ask, do y'all think, and I'll start with you, Jay, since you brought it up. Do y'all think it's a good idea for them to go to Sheriff Kelly, Carrie, instead of staying on point with the mission and finding Hal's killer? Like, Hal obviously calls the audible because he's like, hold on, bro. There's another question I'm going to ask for that. But Hal calls the audible, right? And John's like, bro, I don't think you should do that because she already thinks, she knows you're dead, so this is not going to help. But he's like, fuck it. Let's just go to her. To your point, Jay, she seems too good to be true.
00:30:24
Speaker 2: You know what I mean? Yeah, that's why I think there's something else going on.
00:30:29
Speaker 5: Like, I mean, you already, like, have a sketchy feeling about it because of how she was acting at first.
00:30:36
Speaker 2: With, like, the Manhunter, with Zoe.
00:30:39
Speaker 6: And even though they try to, like, ease it as, like, she has good intentions because of how she was helping Hal in episode five, I still feel like there's something else that's.
00:30:49
Speaker 2: Going on that we really don't know 100% about. So, yeah, I'm looking at it side-eye, but.
00:30:57
Speaker 2: This was before he got there. This is when he, he was, uh, this was before he did Sporty Odie.
00:31:03
Speaker 5: This.
00:31:04
Speaker 2: He did it after. Okay.
00:31:07
Speaker 5: Um, Ken, what were your thoughts on, was it sad for how to be even in 20, even in a 2006, how version for him to be so lonely that, He don't even care that somebody killed him. He cares more about, I had a bitty that I was in love with, and I never got the chance to meet her.
00:31:32
Speaker 2: I want to meet her.
00:31:34
Speaker 5: Fuck me being dead for right now. I want to meet the love of my life. Was that kind of sad based off of what we know about how lonely he is? Because even Sheriff Kerry mentioned that in a previous episode. He's not a man who's not afraid.
00:31:45
Speaker 2: He's just lonely. You know what I mean?
00:31:49
Speaker 8: Nah, I didn't... You ask Ken. You ask Ken. You're really getting in the way. I got 5% up if you want to go on this mission to do this shit that you can't do shit with. Just so you can look at her.
00:32:06
Speaker 2: For what?
00:32:09
Speaker 1: You can't do anything with her, bro.
00:32:12
Speaker 5: I don't know, Ken. He's a physical construct still. He can be touched.
00:32:18
Speaker 2: He touched Don.
00:32:19
Speaker 5: He I mean, we'll get to it later, but Sheriff Kerry touched him, too. Like, I don't know what's going on with him in general, but I know he's not an astral projection.
00:32:32
Speaker 1: Yeah, okay. But you're right.
00:32:35
Speaker 2: He can touch and be touched. That's all I'm trying to say.
00:32:39
Speaker 1: We're on top of these dummy missions, bro.
00:32:42
Speaker 2: Hold on, man.
00:32:44
Speaker 5: That subconscious has been locked up for a minute. Kenny, you tell him when he come out, I got a woman.
00:32:49
Speaker 2: Out here that loves me dearly. You know what I'm saying? Like shit, man.
00:32:53
Speaker 5: Hey, all you needed three minutes. Hey, he said he had to son up. All you need is three minutes. He ain't need that long, man. If you are, uh, A hologram or subconscious that's been trapped away for about 20 years.
00:33:10
Speaker 2: What's the first thing you're thinking about when you get out? Yeah, we definitely want to see her. We definitely want to see her.
00:33:18
Speaker 7: But I'm with Ken, though. I didn't care about this. Like, bro, we trying to solve this mission. You don't need to see her, bro. Like, she ain't even really got nothing to tell you. And I also think that there's something else going on where, as Jalen was saying, too.
00:33:29
Speaker 1: Like, it's too.
00:33:32
Speaker 2: It's something there. They ain't, they like subtly.
00:33:35
Speaker 7: Saying it throughout all these episodes and they ain't really coming out and revealing it.
00:33:39
Speaker 2: And I think it'll happen next episode. So it's something about her.
00:33:43
Speaker 1: We'll see.
00:33:44
Speaker 2: We only got one episode left.
00:33:45
Speaker 5: So either she just good at, it's just a good person or she a piece of shit.
00:33:48
Speaker 2: Yeah.
00:33:50
Speaker 5: Um, we then see, uh, John and Hal driving to go see Sheriff Carrie. Uh, and during this drive, they have a nice conversation, uh, where we see it happen after John denies or ignores a call from his mom. Lou, I still think my theory is up. It's still a good percent chance. I think Hal fucked his mama, bro. I think Hal fucked his mama because even back in the day, Hal was like, hold on, how did I even know your mama like that?
00:34:17
Speaker 1: Yep, he sure did. He sure did.
00:34:20
Speaker 5: He said, because you told me I was in jail, so at what point in time did we have to get that close?
00:34:26
Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying?
00:34:28
Speaker 2: I thought he was.
00:34:29
Speaker 5: Hey, you already know that I only got one girl that you know about. Once I find somebody, I make a relationship with him.
00:34:39
Speaker 2: We have relations. I don't think I'll fuck his mom. I'm telling you, I don't think he didn't either. Yeah, I don't think so. His mom was too. Yeah, she ain't going for that. Well, let me ask you this question. White man, dead lady, dead black lady. You remember her from season three? She ain't fucking white, man.
00:34:59
Speaker 5: I know from season, from episode three or whatever, she gave up on her husband quick.
00:35:03
Speaker 2: She lost respect for that nigga. So, hey, she, if you telling me.
00:35:08
Speaker 5: This, you know how some black women are, Lou? They try with black men and once they fail with them, they be like, listen, I'm just trying to go where I'm supposed to go. i'm just trying to go where i'm loved that's how they care.
00:35:23
Speaker 3: Make sure he's no problems locked his ass up in some damn room somewhere.
00:35:27
Speaker 5: Exactly he ain't going nowhere to a house hey you more disciplined locked up than outside i'll tell you that but um it did make me think like lou to your uh to ask you another question john was damn near blushing and cheesing when Hal was like, damn, bro, like, how the hell are you even, we're still having this conversation in the ring on the dashboard.
00:35:50
Speaker 2: He said, that's great. He was like, bro, I ain't never had a compliment.
00:35:53
Speaker 5: Jay, he ain't never had a compliment all his life when we think about it. Except with cheeseburgers and ham hocks, nigga.
00:36:01
Speaker 2: Cheeseburgers and ham hocks.
00:36:03
Speaker 6: Yeah, Hal ain't never offering no compliment, though. He ain't never said that's good or anything like that. So, yeah, I mean, even the piece of like telling him just being surprised, how surprised he was about it. Like, we recognized that Hal was surprised, but I don't think John really picked up how, like, powerful it was, because Hal was really trying to hold all his cards to his chest.
00:36:24
Speaker 2: So, yeah, that nigga was... He wanted to smile. He wanted to be like a little kid. He wanted to be happy as hell.
00:36:32
Speaker 1: Thanks, Dad.
00:36:33
Speaker 2: That's what he wanted to do. But he kept that shit eternal.
00:36:37
Speaker 6: But yeah, I get why it caught him by surprise for sure.
00:36:40
Speaker 5: Because, Ken, is it fucked up to say Al is probably the closest father figure that he has?
00:36:49
Speaker 2: Don't be disrespectful. Listen, listen, listen. I'm only saying this.
00:36:57
Speaker 5: Because, first of all, his real daddy was shooting apples off his head. So let's not act like he was the best father of the year.
00:37:03
Speaker 1: Jay, come on.
00:37:04
Speaker 5: And number two, I'm really thinking about it. And I could be pleased. People who are listening can correct me if I'm wrong. When did his parents ever really compliment him as far as like in that enthusiastic.
00:37:18
Speaker 4: Kind of way about him just being... him naturally talented.
00:37:22
Speaker 5: Like, even his mama, when he was drawing, she was like, I see what you're doing over there, but you better go make sure this don't fuck up with your studies with that ring.
00:37:28
Speaker 6: I feel like his dad, I feel like his dad gave him compliments every now and then. Like, especially because his dad was the one that wanted to do cheeseburgers and all that stuff. Like, his dad would be, his dad would be proud of him when he did stuff and, like, smile. His mom was more, like, straight and narrow than his dad was, you know what I'm saying? So, Yeah, I can't let you get away with that, man. Y'all shitting on the black man today, bro.
00:37:48
Speaker 5: Y'all trying to uplift the white man like that. I am only saying I haven't seen a positive reaction like this from John.
00:37:56
Speaker 2: Like you said, he was cheesing.
00:37:58
Speaker 5: Knowing what Hal put him through and all that stuff, being complimented in a way where it's really about you and your natural ability and talent, I don't remember, again, in this series so far where he's gotten just a flat-out, open, heavy-handed complimenting.
00:38:15
Speaker 3: Well, as John reminded him, Hal also drove him off a cliff.
00:38:23
Speaker 5: All right, Ken, we're going to get to that.
00:38:27
Speaker 1: He ain't that far away from his daddy. Okay.
00:38:36
Speaker 2: That's why I ask questions, kid.
00:38:38
Speaker 5: I just want to make sure that what I'm thinking is, is it, is it getting fly or not? Obviously it came flat like John, but, um, we then see, uh, Sheriff Kerry isn't at the station when they pull up because everybody's in town is going to the high school to see where her son was going to college. Um, and instead of going straight there, they stop at the Memorial site and Lou, uh, John is doing a habitual thing that, I don't know if it goes with his character, but I don't understand his reasoning. Like, why didn't he tell Hal that he killed a Manhunter? Like, why is he, like, hiding information that is, like... Because even Hal was like, listen... And maybe we should take this as 2006 Hal, not 2016 Hal, because those are clearly two different people.
00:39:26
Speaker 2: But how was I think I don't kill nobody so.
00:39:29
Speaker 7: What you are asking the wrong person because I definitely was gonna ask y'all about that I thought it was something that I was missing if he was asking him why um excuse me when he wouldn't tell him about the manhunter and him killing him so I don't know I was surprised as you were about and I'm wondering where they taking this as far as the last episode I don't get the mystery behind it.
00:39:54
Speaker 2: Behind John not telling him? Yeah, why didn't he just, like, say that he killed the Manhunter? Yeah.
00:40:02
Speaker 6: I mean, I think, so I think a couple of things. I think the main reason is if you tell him that you killed the Manhunter in a way, you make yourself a suspect just because it's like, oh, you've killed before.
00:40:13
Speaker 2: So, like, you have the capability of killing.
00:40:15
Speaker 6: And, like, At that moment, John still was thinking that Hal was thinking he was a suspect.
00:40:21
Speaker 2: Like, maybe he killed her.
00:40:23
Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying?
00:40:23
Speaker 2: So, that's one part of it.
00:40:26
Speaker 6: But it's also just the judgment of, like, you killed a man, Hunter, from a person who does not kill.
00:40:32
Speaker 2: Maybe Hal killed himself?
00:40:34
Speaker 1: John was thinking that? No, no.
00:40:36
Speaker 2: I mean, Hal was thinking, remember Hal asked John if he killed him? And even later on, John was like, yeah, then John brought up later on, like.
00:40:43
Speaker 6: You still think I'm the one that killed you? And then Hal was like, nah, I don't think it was you anymore. So I think a piece of it is like, if you admit that I killed the Manhunter and you was the last person to see me, it's like, oh, you are capable of killing, like, maybe you were the one that killed me.
00:40:57
Speaker 2: It makes you look like a suspect. And again, this is somebody who does not kill, and you kill, it's gonna look odd to them. Even if you knew somebody. Yeah, he do kill. Wasn't he a sniper in the army or some shit?
00:41:12
Speaker 6: Yes, that's my point. But think about it. If you met somebody and you just kicking it with the homies, one of the homies is like, yeah, that nigga got a body. You can look at that nigga different. You can probably still be in the room. You can probably be in the room, but that nigga got a body. It ain't like you a killer. But if he were other killers, other killers are like, all right, nigga killer.
00:41:28
Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? But he not that. You know what I'm saying? So you don't want to put that person on edge by just saying, yeah, I killed him. I get what you're saying. I get what you're saying.
00:41:37
Speaker 5: Yeah.
00:41:37
Speaker 2: That is true.
00:41:38
Speaker 5: Even if he was a sniper, Lou, and I'm in the same room with somebody, like, oh, yeah, bro, I got, like, 45 kills.
00:41:44
Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? That changed the energy.
00:41:46
Speaker 5: Like, this nigga ain't willing. Like, he's willing to go further than what you are in a common situation. Well, maybe not common situation, but in certain circumstances, he's willing to take you out the picture, period. And those are different individuals, especially when he just meeting a black man for the first time in Nebraska.
00:42:03
Speaker 2: And it's over his dead body.
00:42:06
Speaker 5: I'm looking at the nigga like, you suspect number one.
00:42:08
Speaker 2: I'm sorry. It is what it is. All right, he said a lot, but okay, yeah.
00:42:15
Speaker 5: But Ken, did you find it interesting that Hal looked at John or Hal was saying things about himself that we didn't feel like that was the case? Because when he was on the hunt for the Manhunter in 2016, he was about to kill that motherfucker.
00:42:31
Speaker 1: Wait, Hal said that?
00:42:33
Speaker 5: Yeah, well, the hologram is 2006 Hal. And this is 20 years later, but the last interaction he had with Hal was 2016. And obviously 2016 is when all the Manhunter shit happened. I'm thinking, I'm asking you the question as far as like, were you surprised to hear that 2006 Hal isn't a killer versus what we saw in 2016?
00:42:55
Speaker 1: Oh, um, yeah, yeah.
00:43:00
Speaker 3: And I don't know when the whole Sinestro thing happened, what year it happened. If it happened in between 2006, 2016, that changed him into the version he is, you know, uh, today.
00:43:14
Speaker 1: The one that we met.
00:43:15
Speaker 3: Um, but yeah, it was surprising that he was a little bit, you know, more, um, uh, softer, you know, and, and unwilling to do what was necessary.
00:43:28
Speaker 5: Yeah. I thought that, I don't know how that's going to play back, but maybe that is what, as we get on with this episode, why he was, uh, why John gravitated towards him more towards the end of this, uh, But we then see them driving to the high school and Hal gets on John's nerves. And I'm glad we got an original member of Dead End Hip Hop. Can you have an extensive background at reviewing raps? Please tell me what you thought about John when he was rapping Outkast. What was going through your mind?
00:44:06
Speaker 3: Mute. This television. He sounded like he's never... listened to that song before. It was an awful version of karaoke, and maybe he was doing whatever. But yeah, it was terrible. It was terrible. But it wasn't supposed to be good. I take it. It was intentionally bad. But yeah, he really, Nick, needed to spend more time with his brothers.
00:44:34
Speaker 7: That was his first time rapping that song. He would have never done that in his life. They don't know this song. Like, he ain't never done that.
00:44:43
Speaker 5: Hey, Jay, you know what's funny going off what Louis said? I'm thinking they shot this scene before they did the flashback scene in episode three because they were like, we got to put this in the storyline that he ain't good at rapping and it's been happening since he was a kid, especially when.
00:44:59
Speaker 2: It comes to outcast songs.
00:45:01
Speaker 5: So we're going to put this scene in here because what we just shot was terribly garbage.
00:45:10
Speaker 2: I think you're just over-exaggerating. I ain't really... I mean, I don't expect... I don't know. Go ahead. Go ahead and say it. Nah, nah, nah, Lou. He was about to say something. Go ahead and say it. No, it wasn't that crazy. That's what I'm saying. Don't turn yourself... Don't turn it off. Go ahead and say it. I just... I wasn't expecting much. You know what I'm saying?
00:45:29
Speaker 1: Like, niggas.
00:45:30
Speaker 2: Bro, niggas sound worse than a car, bro. Niggas be... I be in niggas' car and they be rapping shit.
00:45:35
Speaker 1: I be like.
00:45:37
Speaker 2: All right, homie.
00:45:38
Speaker 5: And there's songs that I feel like I'm very confident in when I'm carrying it.
00:45:42
Speaker 2: Like, I'm rapping word for word. But there's other songs I'm like, yeah, this ain't good. I don't want nobody to hear me doing this. But I get y'all point.
00:45:49
Speaker 6: It wasn't great. I'm not saying it was great. It's just like I wasn't really bothered by it. It was just funny to me that Outkast was getting used again. That's all I cared about, honestly. Anytime Outkast is being used, I'm happy, bro. So I didn't care that much.
00:46:03
Speaker 2: Put these young niggas on.
00:46:05
Speaker 7: You don't even rap like that though like you gotta like he was rapping too hard like that's the singing part like you don't even like you could tell like you don't even when you sang in that part of it you don't even do it like it like you kind of do what the person on the song do he wouldn't.
00:46:20
Speaker 3: Yeah you do yeah you know I don't know what he was doing yeah it's almost like he was reading it from the teleprompter yeah but what I will say Jalen though is that was that the second version and wasn't it playing on the radio So, they getting paid.
00:46:37
Speaker 1: That being said, they don't need to be suing that damn Overcast.
00:46:41
Speaker 2: I was going to say, they can let that shit go. That's Overcast. Me and Nick on the other side of this. Nick, I heard they take some, is the mic still on? And I'm not really on the side of this one, bro.
00:46:54
Speaker 5: I thought I was already suspicious of that shit from the get-go. Because I was like, bro, OutKast don't really just sue anybody. Like, you know what I'm saying? Like, this is like... It may have happened before, but I rarely, rarely see them, like, be on top of, like, people doing shit like that. Once I found the context of this nigga was told multiple times, bro, stop doing this shit.
00:47:13
Speaker 2: Otherwise, we gonna sue you. And he keeps doing it. All right, bro. You just getting what you asked for.
00:47:18
Speaker 6: And you antagonizing him. Like, at first, I was like, all right, it might be a mix-up, whatever.
00:47:22
Speaker 2: It is what it is.
00:47:22
Speaker 6: But he been antagonizing. Like, after they came, the lawsuit came out, he put rest in peace Rosa Parks. It's like, nigga, you ain't gotta be... If you feel this way, you ain't gotta be extra about this shit.
00:47:31
Speaker 2: Like... Come on. And that poster he just made. And I guess it's different for us. You know what's crazy, Nick? Overcast is our generation.
00:47:41
Speaker 5: And you would think it would be the opposite because Outkast is basically their generation. They would listen to Outkast outside with Outkast. And we got Overcast right now. We should be advocating for him.
00:47:53
Speaker 6: But I just feel like this is one of them situations where it's like, bro, it's an easy fix out of respect for Cast.
00:47:59
Speaker 2: Just do it.
00:48:01
Speaker 1: Here's the thing.
00:48:02
Speaker 3: Everything you guys said was true after they approached him. I'm saying they never should have approached him. This shit is fucking stupid. They never should have even went.
00:48:13
Speaker 1: To him and said, hey, man, that looks a little iffy. How about you changing that?
00:48:17
Speaker 3: I get a kid's going to be a kid and react that way, but why are they being this damn petty?
00:48:20
Speaker 2: They never should have been from the jump. It's different. And you know why it's different for OutKast?
00:48:25
Speaker 6: And I know people be like, well, there's other rappers who do this. It's different if you're an active rapper like When you see Overcast... Honestly, this is my truth.
00:48:33
Speaker 2: When I first saw the name, I thought it was something with Outkast because I'm not getting any more Outkast music. We're settled in the fact that we're never probably ever getting Outkast music.
00:48:42
Speaker 5: So when you see the name, you get excited. Even if it's off the idea that it was Outkast. You see the name, you get excited a little bit because you're like, oh shit, Outkast got some shit? Or Outkast involved with something? You get excited off of that. So even if it's a mix-up for a second, it has your attention. That's the difference just compared to another active rapper.
00:49:01
Speaker 3: Because I can clearly see that.
00:49:04
Speaker 2: Being an R. He said in an interview with Variety that it happens a lot.
00:49:10
Speaker 1: That's great.
00:49:10
Speaker 2: His name get mixed up.
00:49:14
Speaker 5: And when people get mixed up, they go check and see what it is after you done looked. Like, you already looked at it, so now you're basically living off the name of OutKast.
00:49:20
Speaker 2: Like, it's like, well, bro, like, shit, let me make it.
00:49:22
Speaker 5: And, Jay, I know this is a random segue. We're going to go back to the show. Last thing I'll say is, it's funny. Lou is willing to fight a coach over pulling his son in a baseball game, but he don't understand why niggas are suing over money that I'm supposed to be potentially getting. I don't think I said that, though. I don't think I said that. You said, like, I don't get it. I don't get why they suing him. Anytime somebody is potentially getting in the way of me and my money, yes, bro. We're going to have to have a conversation. And he was nice about it. He said, like, bro, just stop doing the changing name. He even agreed to changing a part of his name so it could stand out more. He ain't do none of that shit. So now he's being disrespectful.
00:50:00
Speaker 6: That's not impacting their money. But to me, it's not the money part. It's just the reputation part. Like, what if they get, like... People start coming, like, they see the name and he did something fucked up.
00:50:10
Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying?
00:50:11
Speaker 6: Now, they don't really look deep into it, but they just associate him with their brand, bro. I think that shit matters, dog. I think it matters.
00:50:26
Speaker 5: Moving past the last thing we talked about with Hal and John at the memorial scene, as soon as we see John pull up to high school trying to go meet up with Sheriff Carey, This is where begging-ass Maggie come around, knocking on his door. Lou, we kind of already talked about this, but do you really think he's going to give her the money?
00:50:52
Speaker 2: Yeah. I don't see how he's going to get out of it at this point. Does he need to? Does he need to? I should ask you probably.
00:50:59
Speaker 7: Oh, hell no. I wouldn't give her shit. I wouldn't give her shit. And him needing to in a sense of the character of the show, What happens if he doesn't? Is she going to go tell the sheriff? And then the sheriff is going to think he's lying, but they still ain't going to be able to put two and two together to kill nobody.
00:51:14
Speaker 2: So the bigger question would just be, well, why'd you lie?
00:51:17
Speaker 7: It ain't going to ultimately end up to him being put in jail or no shit like that.
00:51:22
Speaker 2: So no, I wouldn't give her the $ 300, 000. I disagree. It's in Nebraska and it's white folks here. I know you're going to say that.
00:51:29
Speaker 5: It leads to that, but I was just going to go off of Ken's point that kind of even accelerates that. Sheriff Carey don't give a fuck. She willing to lock this nigga up over regular town fights. She will definitely have to lock that nigga up for a murder of a white man.
00:51:46
Speaker 2: Regardless if they like that white man or not. That's just off G.P.
00:51:51
Speaker 7: Yeah, I agree with that, but I still don't think, like the word, what's the word of that little girl going to do?
00:51:56
Speaker 2: Why don't you just say she lying? Are we really keeping a book?
00:51:59
Speaker 5: Who they going to believe, a white girl that was born and raised there or a black nigga that came out of nowhere and was a.
00:52:08
Speaker 2: Part of the shit? Yeah, that wrecked they fucking town. hell they're gonna believe her how much i.
00:52:15
Speaker 7: Don't know hey listen i don't know this little meth smoking waitress from this small town bro y'all ain't she ain't getting shit off.
00:52:22
Speaker 2: For me it don't matter what you know nigga it don't matter what you know it's what we think nigga jay.
00:52:29
Speaker 5: I should ask him this question this is gonna be an easier question right we gonna get right to it lou how much money are you willing to pay to not go to jail.
00:52:38
Speaker 7: All right that's.
00:52:48
Speaker 5: All he thinking about hey listen and he transferred that money and i get hurt it sounded like that hurt it just like it was a large sum but it ain't sounding like damn nigga you gotta take my savings it was like yeah like Of course, it's going to go over easy if it's like, do you have $ 315, 000 to stay out of jail? Oh, yeah, I got that. I ain't thinking about it hurting. I'm thinking about me not hurting if I go to jail.
00:53:13
Speaker 2: That's a good one.
00:53:15
Speaker 3: Well, at this point, she's committing a crime herself. So he can flip that back on her.
00:53:24
Speaker 1: Oh, so you want him.
00:53:25
Speaker 2: To snitch now? Yeah, yeah. He gonna snitch on the snitch.
00:53:29
Speaker 1: Yes.
00:53:31
Speaker 3: She came to me, pressed me about needing money in order to do this. Yes, she committed the crime. She actually committed the crime.
00:53:37
Speaker 1: I did not.
00:53:39
Speaker 3: But I'm with you, Lou. That watch gone, bro. That watch gone, bro.
00:53:46
Speaker 1: She done smoked all that shit.
00:53:47
Speaker 2: And he was flossing it, Lou. Like, he just asked about this the last week.
00:53:52
Speaker 5: Nigga, what the fuck is you flossing it for? I was thinking the same thing, Nick. I was like, damn, not watching this shot, bro. Like, why not watch all of this shot?
00:53:59
Speaker 2: Nick did it on purpose because I thought the same. I was like, man, I didn't watch it. Yeah, I was like, we didn't see it for most of the episode.
00:54:05
Speaker 5: It just came out of nowhere. I'm like, well, damn, that nigga just, he really stuntin' in front of her. Like, yeah, I would've did the same thing. Nigga, you owe me money and you came up here with some new kicks? Let me run them, bro. Let me see that. Let me see that there. Negotiate with terrorists. You can't negotiate with terrorists, bro.
00:54:28
Speaker 3: You pay them that, they're gonna come back and ask for more. I was like, bro, you not tripping over this shit?
00:54:36
Speaker 1: I'm going to.
00:54:38
Speaker 2: Prolong how long I got to to stay out of jail, my boy. I negotiate as long as it take me to stay out of jail. I got to keep moving until I figure something out, brother.
00:54:49
Speaker 5: You'll give up the J's off your feet if the cops was like... You can either give me your shoes or you're going to jail. Hey, kid, you know I was in a situation where they said you can either do this or you're going to jail.
00:55:03
Speaker 2: I got pins on deck to this day. I got a pin right here next to me. I got a pin right here. I'm always prepared to sign something. Please, I ain't going to jail.
00:55:24
Speaker 5: Like y'all bullshitting right now that's why i'm asking these.
00:55:27
Speaker 2: Questions my god i ain't bullshit i told y'all i tell niggas all the time don't do no crimes with me i ain't going to jail for nobody if i go it's gonna be for me only and if i can find a way out of that i'm finding a way out it ain't going to nobody.
00:55:41
Speaker 1: Oh man um.
00:55:45
Speaker 5: Yeah, so after John gets shaked down by Maggie, we see that Noah wasted everybody's time gathering because he was like, nigga, we got a game.
00:55:52
Speaker 2: We got a game this Friday. I ain't going to make a decision. What type of nigga would come and do that? You know, it's so important, this game.
00:55:59
Speaker 7: Man, bet you knew all that before we came in here.
00:56:01
Speaker 2: You're going to wait until the last minute. Get the fuck out of here.
00:56:06
Speaker 1: I got 150 people coming. I'm going to pay all that money for this damn food.
00:56:10
Speaker 2: You ask me why I don't have kids, kid.
00:56:12
Speaker 1: That's why.
00:56:12
Speaker 7: That's one of the reasons. We're going to do.
00:56:17
Speaker 2: It with a fault. First of all, you would never have a white son.
00:56:23
Speaker 5: Second of all, he probably only said that because of what John told him last week. Was it last week where he was like, Don't let anybody force you to make a decision on daytime.
00:56:34
Speaker 2: It's your decision.
00:56:37
Speaker 6: Nick, as a parent in that situation, I don't give a fuck. You better make a fucking decision. He going to make a decision today. If he don't make a decision, I made a decision that this is where he going and this is what we celebrating.
00:56:52
Speaker 2: He ain't doing this shit over again.
00:56:54
Speaker 5: Whatever he say, after the fact, y'all can take whatever y'all want to, but the decision going to be made today.
00:56:59
Speaker 2: Like, that was some bullshit. Like, white people different if they let that shit go down.
00:57:03
Speaker 3: Nah.
00:57:04
Speaker 5: Yeah.
00:57:05
Speaker 2: Because that's a teachable moment. I was like, you can correct me if I'm wrong. It's teachable. Yeah, you're right. You can correct me if I'm wrong here, but now, nigga, it's time to make a decision. Life don't work that way.
00:57:15
Speaker 1: You don't get to keep kicking.
00:57:16
Speaker 7: We just talked about this Sunday. You don't get to keep kicking the can down the road, bro.
00:57:19
Speaker 2: This is the day. The decision's supposed to be made. Everybody's here. Make the decision. You can change your mind. That's fine. But you're making a decision today, buddy.
00:57:28
Speaker 3: We sound black as hell.
00:57:37
Speaker 2: But I'm standing on it.
00:57:39
Speaker 1: Yeah, that was crazy.
00:57:42
Speaker 5: I didn't mind it because he did make a decision. He said not today. And hey, Lou, Lou, what's the what's one of the best things about being Mr.
00:57:50
Speaker 1: Nigga?
00:57:52
Speaker 2: Do whatever you want. And he's Mr. Nigga in the town. He's the greatest thing to happen to that town. He ain't Mr. Nigga in his house, though. He ain't Mr.
00:58:00
Speaker 1: Nigga in his house.
00:58:01
Speaker 5: He ain't Mr.
00:58:01
Speaker 2: Nigga answering to his mom and his wife every time.
00:58:04
Speaker 5: Mr.
00:58:04
Speaker 2: Nigga don't bother answering to his mom and his wife.
00:58:07
Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
00:58:08
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. He ain't got nothing to say to that. If he was black, he'd know damn well he was making a decision because he ain't going home. He ain't going back home. It don't matter.
00:58:20
Speaker 5: He told me early on in this episode, quit comparing black people to white people.
00:58:24
Speaker 2: He going to do it. No, I'm saying you, nigga. You know.
00:58:29
Speaker 5: I'm just saying I don't mind him doing it. He's a white boy. He learned he got white privilege today. That's what he looked at.
00:58:35
Speaker 2: He was like, listen, I don't have to do shit.
00:58:38
Speaker 1: You're like, oh, that's how this shit work.
00:58:41
Speaker 2: Took a black man a reminder.
00:58:42
Speaker 5: But we then see that John takes Sheriff Carey to the science room for her to finally meet and have an interaction with Hallegram Howe.
00:58:58
Speaker 2: Ken, what did you think about this scene?
00:59:03
Speaker 1: We could have did without it.
00:59:05
Speaker 3: Um what i did think was funny was when he was trying to talk low 315 000 he got that much money.
00:59:17
Speaker 1: That shit was funny walking into the room. That was some nigga shit.
00:59:19
Speaker 2: That's some nigga shit. That's some nigga shit.
00:59:21
Speaker 1: It really was, bro. It really was.
00:59:24
Speaker 2: Because we would have definitely done.
00:59:28
Speaker 3: It. And after all of that shit, when she finally was like, hey, man, we got the fucking gold, bro. Like, you done sat here. You done did your shit. She done did your shit. We on the fucking clock. And you sit here doing all this dumb ass shit. And now you, because of you, she wants to come along with us. no I got what you said sundown sun up whatever it was no we gotta go I don't got time for this sentimental shit that you doing but y'all stupid as fuck why because he snitched on his damn self earlier cause that's when she found out he stole that god damn ring and dug him up cause he found out the ring was run out of power and he snitched on himself when he dug that shit up so now he.
01:00:14
Speaker 6: A thief he's not He can't charge it.
01:00:18
Speaker 2: Nah, he got to have the lantern.
01:00:20
Speaker 1: He got to find the battery.
01:00:21
Speaker 2: Yeah. He ain't got that.
01:00:22
Speaker 3: Yeah.
01:00:23
Speaker 2: Ain't it in Hell House? He went to go get it.
01:00:25
Speaker 5: Nah, remember he gave back the lantern and the ring to the blue people, the blue lady, white lady.
01:00:30
Speaker 2: The guardians. Oh, okay, gosh.
01:00:33
Speaker 3: Okay.
01:00:33
Speaker 5: So, Guy was only able to get the ring back because it was decommissioned. He ain't bringing the lantern because there'd be no point in bringing the lantern. Why would you need the lantern?
01:00:40
Speaker 2: You don't need to charge it because it'll go down, gosh.
01:00:43
Speaker 5: But, Jay, uh, I thought this scene was funny or this scene was interesting and kind of sweet. But I thought it was funny because as soon as he got in the car, he was like, hey, I don't trust that bitch. She has something to do with it.
01:00:57
Speaker 2: He's like, you see the way she touched me? You see the way she touched me? You see the way she looked? He's like, I know that motherfucker. Guilty as hell. She's suspect.
01:01:06
Speaker 5: He said, I'm taking your ass off the list. And you know what they say, Jay? Most likely your spouse is the one that killed you if you get murdered.
01:01:15
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. Always a significant other.
01:01:19
Speaker 6: Yeah, but I'm pretty sure it was something she said that really made how, like, I ain't tell you that shit.
01:01:24
Speaker 2: Like, it was something. It was something when he was asking me questions. Didn't he ask you, did I tell you about my dad? Yeah, he did ask you. She said, yeah.
01:01:33
Speaker 7: Yeah, see, I don't think he would. That's probably what gave it away because I don't think he would have told her.
01:01:37
Speaker 2: I think he would have. Didn't the dad tell her don't tell nobody? He just told John. He just told John.
01:01:42
Speaker 6: At first, I thought that's what it was. I thought it was that at first. But I still think it was something they gave it away.
01:01:50
Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying?
01:01:50
Speaker 6: I don't know what it was, but he definitely felt like, yeah, this was cute. But now you did something like. But they did talk a lot.
01:01:58
Speaker 5: I mean, they did have enough interactions because one, he always cared about her. And we know based off of what we know about how is that, bro? He don't trust anybody. And the people that he does is for a good reason. So the fact that he was writing to her when she was still married, he's a Dirty Mac for sure.
01:02:15
Speaker 2: Hall of Fame, Lou.
01:02:16
Speaker 5: I locked up for 10 years and you stay writing to my wife.
01:02:20
Speaker 2: After she says stop. Dirty Mac. Dirty Mac. Dirty Mac. Mount Rushmore Hall of Fame. Al Jordan's on there.
01:02:30
Speaker 5: But... He always wrote to her. And then the first place he wanted to go to when he got out of jail was Rush.
01:02:36
Speaker 2: He went back there. I'm saying this, Jay.
01:02:40
Speaker 5: I feel like he trusted her enough and he loved her enough that he gave her his all because that's all he had left.
01:02:45
Speaker 2: He didn't have the ring no more.
01:02:46
Speaker 1: He was just out.
01:02:47
Speaker 6: Man, and she gave him some pussy. So he gave, I mean, like, I mean, I mean, what we saying? You know, like, shit, this the one that's holding you down.
01:02:58
Speaker 2: So it's like, all right, like.
01:02:59
Speaker 5: But you still think he killed, like, you still think, you still with him? Like, you think she had something to do with it?
01:03:05
Speaker 2: I think she a suspect. Something's off with her, bro.
01:03:08
Speaker 6: And the fact, you know what? I, the way she was like, I still got to go to this house and deal with this party. And she made it seem like they got to be there for a while or whatever. And she was more adamant about going to the safe as compared to being like, are you going to come back and see me? I think she needed to see like she needed to see the evidence there.
01:03:29
Speaker 2: I think that was that.
01:03:30
Speaker 6: I think that was the thing that kind of hit to me is that she she felt like she needed to go to make sure she.
01:03:34
Speaker 2: Saw all the evidence that didn't point to her. Because you could have easily just been like.
01:03:41
Speaker 6: Most women in this, well, at least from the shows we see, most women would be like, are you going to come back and see me?
01:03:45
Speaker 2: Like, how much time do you have? Can I see you later? Like, you know what I'm saying? They don't be on some, they be like, you got to go handle your business, go do that. But do you have time to make, do you have time to make time for me? You know what I'm saying? She wasn't on that. She was more so like, y'all come with me so I can keep my eyes on y'all type shit.
01:04:00
Speaker 5: So that's the thing that kind of made me feel like, yeah, she probably did have something to do with him getting shot. The only thing I'm really thinking about now, as you were saying that, is that the description of the mortician is, went about his, like, when they did the autopsy, was like, yeah, he was shot at gunpoint, but it was close, like, someone closer to him. Maybe, and then going with the context of this episode, maybe he asked her to kill him. That may be a stretch, but, like, you know what I'm saying?
01:04:26
Speaker 2: But, Ken, go ahead.
01:04:30
Speaker 3: Or, you know, it was interesting that he said that, because I saw, maybe on our Reddit or somewhere, that somebody.
01:04:40
Speaker 1: suspected that she did it.
01:04:42
Speaker 3: And, you know, I was just like, yeah, I was just talking. But no, that motherfucker did it.
01:04:47
Speaker 1: I was like, oh, shit. Like, that is a thing that I guess it confirmed what they were saying.
01:04:53
Speaker 3: I'm leaning towards a little bit of what you're saying, Nick, but not in the exact same way. And I'm also adding in what he said about his dad as well.
01:05:04
Speaker 1: Or the story where we know about his.
01:05:05
Speaker 3: Dad is that He probably did it, but he probably used the ring to do it, to hold the gun.
01:05:13
Speaker 2: From in front of him. But he had the ring at this time.
01:05:18
Speaker 1: Damn, he didn't.
01:05:19
Speaker 3: No, he didn't.
01:05:20
Speaker 1: He did have the ring.
01:05:21
Speaker 2: I thought he did. He was looking for the ring.
01:05:22
Speaker 1: I thought he did. You're right. You're right. You're right. Never mind. It wasn't on his finger.
01:05:26
Speaker 2: Yeah, it wasn't on his finger.
01:05:28
Speaker 5: For one and two, he just got out of jail.
01:05:30
Speaker 2: He ain't got the ring.
01:05:31
Speaker 9: Yep.
01:05:32
Speaker 2: Well, what if that ain't him? What if it's the Manhunter? What if it ain't him? What if it ain't Hal? What if it ain't the real Hal?
01:05:41
Speaker 5: The only reason why I'm listening to Lou right now, Jay, is because in the beginning of episode one, or like during that interrogation, John makes a point that says there's 14 alien species that have the same makeup as humans, even down to when you cut us open. And we seen Hal on the table. He could not be, like, that could be just an alien and not Hal.
01:06:04
Speaker 1: I don't know.
01:06:05
Speaker 2: There's a possibility within this show.
01:06:07
Speaker 6: Honestly, the main thing I took from it in this scene was how he talked about John. How she said he talks about John. I don't know if it's true or not, though. That is the interesting part. Because John didn't give a fuck when he saw... I mean, Hal didn't give a fuck about John when he saw him in the restaurant. So, you know what I'm saying? Like, he still felt like he... To me, it felt like he still didn't give a fuck about him. And we know, as we watch football, like, the way she described it, I get it. Because even as, like, Like, people in my family is like, man, that nigga get on my damn nerves. But I still love that nigga and wish him nothing but the best. Like, I'm still rooting for him even though he get on my damn nerves.
01:06:45
Speaker 2: So I understood what she was saying about him. But I don't know if I felt that way.
01:06:51
Speaker 1: You know what?
01:06:51
Speaker 2: I take that back. I take that back.
01:06:53
Speaker 6: Hal definitely in episode five kind of proved it a little bit when he was about to die by Zoe. In a way, he just like, yeah, yeah, never mind.
01:07:01
Speaker 2: Jay, I was going to say before we move on.
01:07:04
Speaker 5: How treats John like how a diehard Cleveland Brown fan treats Deshaun Watson? If he saw Deshaun Watson walk into a diner as a 2-1 quarterback.
01:07:16
Speaker 2: He going to be like, I don't owe you shit.
01:07:19
Speaker 5: But God damn it, I'm going to tune in to you every Sunday if you keep adding them doves to the collar. Because that's how I treated him. He was like, bro, that whole pancake line was hilarious. He was like, nigga, you can get some pancakes. That's the only thing you're going to get from me. Like, that's how a football fan would treat a team that they can't stand. rooting for sometimes but they always gonna root for him you know what i mean so i i and when he i know he upset kid because you could add him to the list of how many motherfuckers was pissed that he gave them back the ring after doing all that shit.
01:07:51
Speaker 2: Yeah you could have said that.
01:07:53
Speaker 3: But i was definitely thinking when he's used that football analogy cowboy fans.
01:08:00
Speaker 5: You know he said the same thing about Bengals fans Saints fans that's why I don't know why he made it as Dean Brown like nigga I was saying but when you have a certain disdain for somebody but you have no choice still but to root for him like even with even with like Cowboys fans yeah I was saying Cowboys fans yeah Cowboys fans is also a great comparison but I was just thinking about how Browns fans feel about their franchise because I think it's worse than.
01:08:22
Speaker 2: Bengals feel about paying people about your.
01:08:24
Speaker 5: Defense your defense we ain't here to talk about me we ain't here to talk about the show but we then see Hal and John go to the lockbox and open up and we find some random ass items that was left Lou this is where I was like are you enjoying the banter between John and Hal at this point because they was going back and forth like.
01:08:48
Speaker 2: I was like damn I ain't.
01:08:51
Speaker 5: Teaching nothing about these wormholes he was like nigga you tell me two things jack and shit.
01:08:56
Speaker 2: I was like bro I fuck with them The banter is good. I do like those two as a pairing.
01:09:02
Speaker 7: That's not really my critique as why the show has not been as good. It's just there's no mystique there anymore. But I do enjoy them going back and forth.
01:09:14
Speaker 2: And I.
01:09:15
Speaker 7: The items, what was it, a gun, a poncho, and what else was in the vault?
01:09:20
Speaker 5: It's some shit that I feel like you were having in your vault. It's some nigga items. It's some nigga items.
01:09:26
Speaker 2: If we came into B & J, it's a bunch of niggas.
01:09:31
Speaker 5: He got a loaded gun, a poncho, a hiking knapsack, probably some flame of hot. Oh, yeah, by the way, I got this dimensional wormhole.
01:09:43
Speaker 2: Portal wormhole.
01:09:44
Speaker 7: But yeah i thought this was interesting and i do appreciate they better but you saying.
01:09:49
Speaker 5: That ken would you have walked through that wormhole if a white man said go ahead i think you could breathe in that motherfucker.
01:09:58
Speaker 3: No no but i did like he was like well it could be the fact that i'm not alive but you know who knows and then i think he was i guess he was trying to hype himself up when he asked asked me if i'm afraid or something like that i spent my afraid.
01:10:12
Speaker 2: I didn't get that.
01:10:14
Speaker 5: And I, and I felt again, Jay, it was going back to me thinking he needs a pat on the back more often than not. And he only felt like comfortable getting that from Hal. Cause it's kind of like you said, Ken, it did feel like hype me up or get me enthusiastic about this shit.
01:10:27
Speaker 4: And it was like, bro, why are you asking this nigga that question? And what the fuck?
01:10:30
Speaker 2: That's his trigger though. That dude, like his, didn't his, wait.
01:10:35
Speaker 5: It is.
01:10:35
Speaker 2: You're right. Who asked that? John said to ask the how.
01:10:38
Speaker 1: Yeah.
01:10:39
Speaker 2: Mom used to ask him that and stuff. So that's his trigger. That's what gets him going. He still need that shit?
01:10:44
Speaker 7: Yeah.
01:10:45
Speaker 2: Especially if he's not that element for a while.
01:10:50
Speaker 7: Yeah, he probably ain't been talked to like that or probably asked that question in a long time since he's been so successful.
01:10:55
Speaker 2: With what he's been doing.
01:10:57
Speaker 7: So he needed that to go into a fucking wormhole to another dimension that he'd never been to before.
01:11:03
Speaker 2: It seems like a reasonable question. So yeah, I'm with him on that.
01:11:07
Speaker 4: My thing is, if you're already going to do it, why you got to talk about it?
01:11:09
Speaker 1: Right.
01:11:12
Speaker 2: Some people need a little oomph. I never thought I'd hear you say that sentence in your life.
01:11:23
Speaker 5: We then see John go to the other side of the dimension, and we find out that it's the aftermath of what Anton was talking about. That's the whole reason why we know where Anton comes from, because we find out that the memories John was seeing of that whole civilization going down was actually right there. They're in the graveyard of that. which was crazy. I like the visuals of it, kid. I know you got the big screen TV. I know, Jay, you got that, too. That shit looked crazy. He was like, I know they died, but I ain't know they died in space.
01:11:54
Speaker 1: Shit.
01:11:54
Speaker 2: That shit crazy.
01:11:56
Speaker 6: This was part of the episode that really brought me back into it. It looked amazing. I looked amazing on screen. The colors, like, Them putting that nigga in all black, too, against that, like, I.
01:12:09
Speaker 2: Was like, yeah. It made the yellow stand out even more. Yes. Like, I was like, yeah, this shit looks dope.
01:12:14
Speaker 5: And it wasn't no, like, Power Ranger yellow or Powderpuff Girl yellow, like, something that's, like, cartoonish.
01:12:19
Speaker 2: It was like... It was like Doom. Yeah, it was like a Doom, yeah.
01:12:23
Speaker 5: Like a Doom yellow. I was like, damn, like, that's an interesting way of how that looked. And they kept showing a super small version of John to show you how massive that place was, the civilization was.
01:12:35
Speaker 4: I loved everything about it. I don't know about you, Cam.
01:12:38
Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I thought it was dope. I thought it was dope.
01:12:40
Speaker 3: And, you know, when I saw the... I didn't know what was going on. He's a brave dude. But definitely the colors... I wonder if, Oh boy, that we, uh, was going to be there. Uh, but cause I didn't know the planet. I don't know what planet was from, but it just looked interesting to me. And then just the fact that he was talking about fear and these motherfuckers are jumping off of a city in the sky.
01:13:10
Speaker 1: And I was like, golly.
01:13:12
Speaker 3: And he, cause as soon as he got there, he was like, man, this is, I feel like I've been here before, but, um, but no, it did look dope.
01:13:18
Speaker 1: It did look dope.
01:13:19
Speaker 3: I wouldn't mind like spending some time, you know, in that spot.
01:13:24
Speaker 1: But now I'm wondering what the fuck Anton looked like.
01:13:28
Speaker 2: We did see Anton. Are you talking about the real person? Oh, original form. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:13:33
Speaker 5: Ken, I thought John was bullshit. Like, you know, Lou, he'd be like, damn, I've been to the hood before. I didn't know it was in outer space, too. I feel like I've been to the hood, nigga.
01:13:45
Speaker 2: I used to have to walk through this shit as a kid.
01:13:50
Speaker 5: But we then see John take a boat that Hal left to get to the other side of the planet. But while that was going on, as him rowing, some weird shit started happening, Lou. I have to ask this question. Do you think John is scared of becoming a Greenlander? That's why he said no.
01:14:12
Speaker 1: Scared.
01:14:18
Speaker 2: I don't think it's fear. I think it's more so purpose-driven.
01:14:21
Speaker 7: I think it's more so he don't know if he... It's like a confidence thing. He don't know if he can fulfill the position and do.
01:14:31
Speaker 7: What his mom and dad and all these people assume that he can't do. So I don't think he's scared. I think he's more so thinking that he can't do it. A lack of confidence.
01:14:47
Speaker 2: What about you, Jay?
01:14:48
Speaker 1: Yeah.
01:14:49
Speaker 5: I'm about to say you saying, you saying that you're not trying to say it, but you saying it at the same.
01:14:55
Speaker 2: Time, you're scared and lack of confidence. The same thing. Kind of.
01:15:02
Speaker 1: You're not confident that you can do something.
01:15:04
Speaker 3: It's not, but it sounds very similar. Like, I don't have the confidence that I can do this thing.
01:15:13
Speaker 1: You know, but, yeah, I don't know.
01:15:17
Speaker 3: I get what you're saying, but it does sound like he's afraid of something. He doesn't want to take this action because he doesn't believe that he can do this action. I'm with you, Nick. I'm going to take it. like that cloud and that rain and the visions he was having as his subconscious deep down inside that he is afraid of something. And that was his internal self, his young self, that was like, you're afraid to be.
01:15:48
Speaker 1: A Green Lantern.
01:15:50
Speaker 3: And that's why you turned it down and don't want to do this. And as a child, you know, he was just bred to not be afraid to do this, and that he suppressed the fear, or, if we're not going to say fear, we can go with, as Spike said, he suppressed the lack of confidence that he has in this ability to do something that he never really asked for anyway. So, it very much seemed to me, like, this scene was really telling to me on why he didn't want to, why he turned the ring down.
01:16:30
Speaker 2: I don't think it's the fear of being Green Lantern.
01:16:36
Speaker 6: I think he's aware that he was bred and he's made to do this. He's made to do this.
01:16:43
Speaker 2: I don't think that's the issue. He just don't want to do it. He really just don't want to do it. He's been told he's going to do this his whole life. You don't want to let people down. That's more so the fear. At that point... I don't know.
01:16:59
Speaker 5: I struggle with agreeing with your point, Jay, or even seeing it from your perspective, because this nigga walked through a wormhole and is on a boat. To say he didn't want to do it is like, then why is he doing it now? When he had no reason to do it, he could have left Hal where he left Hal.
01:17:17
Speaker 7: He could have took the meeting with- But he claimed he just trying to find out who killed.
01:17:20
Speaker 2: Hal, though. I know, but I'm just saying, but why?
01:17:23
Speaker 5: But that's leading you back to being a Green Lantern, because you're doing Green Lantern shit. He's been doing Greenlander shit this whole time, but.
01:17:29
Speaker 2: He keeps saying that. My bad. No, go ahead.
01:17:35
Speaker 7: You're saying why is him as John Smith or John looking to find out who killed Hal that don't make sense for just his regular everyday life? If you're going to try to find out who killed him, then you might as well be the Greenlander.
01:17:46
Speaker 2: Is that what you're saying?
01:17:47
Speaker 5: I'm saying he's doing Greenlander shit to find out Hal's death. The thing that he says that he didn't care about or didn't... Like, the number one person he could probably... If you were to poll him, who's the number one person you could give a fuck about if they died? He'd probably say Hal Jordan. You know what I'm saying? And then to say, okay, based off of that, does this make sense for you to go through all this shit to find out who killed him?
01:18:07
Speaker 4: Even burying him. Going through all that whole process and it's just kind of like.
01:18:11
Speaker 5: If you really didn't want to do it, you wouldn't be doing half the shit you're doing now. So to me, it's just like once we come to the realization that, of course, he does want to do it, Jay, then it comes to Ken's point. It's like, well, you were just scared to do it at the time. You still want to do it, but you're too scared. You know how they got that fine girl in high school that you wanted to talk to, but you were just too scared to because she's too fine?
01:18:32
Speaker 2: It's like, I want to, but I can't.
01:18:35
Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying?
01:18:36
Speaker 2: Listen, listen. I gave y'all the example last week. Did I not? Like... What? About.
01:18:46
Speaker 6: Even though you know it's toxic over there, you don't want.
01:18:49
Speaker 2: Like... Like... but you know.
01:18:51
Speaker 5: So it's like, it's the same thing.
01:18:52
Speaker 2: I know, all I know is this type of shit. You know what I'm saying? But deep down, I don't want to keep doing this shit. I really don't want to be doing it. But this is all I really know. So I give in to.
01:19:03
Speaker 6: The fact that, all right, well, let me just go ahead and maybe I can dip in for a little bit and come right back out of it.
01:19:08
Speaker 5: It ain't going to be that big of a deal. Like, I don't really want to be with you. I don't want this to be my life. but I continue to deal with it for whatever reason. That's because I'm conditioned to just, this is a part of me at this point. Like you are a part of my life.
01:19:22
Speaker 2: Like I can't help it. I have to, it takes a whole lot of work for me to like not have.
01:19:26
Speaker 5: That's another reason why he's doesn't really want to talk to his, his mom and his dad. Cause it's like, y'all are part of that shit too. Like, but this is to a point y'all were talking about earlier when y'all say he's getting black. I think a piece of it is.
01:19:37
Speaker 6: Him getting comfortable with who he wants to be. As compared to what they told him to be for his whole life. Him not being like worrying about the Green Lantern and becoming that. Now he's able to like find out what the fuck he wants to do and what he likes.
01:19:51
Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? So it's a different piece of John that you're seeing in these moments. It's like, oh, he wasn't like this 10 years ago. Yeah, because now I can figure out some shit for myself. But my point is still that he just doesn't want to do this. I was just told all my life to do this shit. But I really don't want to do it. I don't know what I want to do, but this ain't what I want to do. Could have fooled me is all I'm saying.
01:20:15
Speaker 3: Yeah, because he clearly don't want to build 40 damn safe houses for the government because he has his ass out there.
01:20:23
Speaker 1: He doesn't know what the hell he want to do.
01:20:25
Speaker 2: That's the point. There goes your point.
01:20:27
Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know. We need to get this shit together. I'm a part of that now.
01:20:34
Speaker 2: I'm about to say, you need to pick up your damn phone. That's what you need to do. But it's their fault, bro.
01:20:39
Speaker 6: Like, you condition your child to know only one thing as compared to actually let them live their life and try to figure out what the hell they are drawn to. You told them they were going, this is a grown-ass man who got to provide for himself, got to figure life out. It's hard to go be, like, be an artsy and discover all type of shit you want to when you got bills to pay.
01:20:56
Speaker 5: Like, you still got to fucking pay bills. It's hard to go find a passion when all you know is the fucking work.
01:21:00
Speaker 2: Like, it's, I get it. I get exactly where you're at. And I might be projecting a little bit, but it.
01:21:06
Speaker 4: Is what it is.
01:21:08
Speaker 5: This episode going up on his ranking list, Ken, I can tell you. He got a ring on tonight, Ken, too. I thought I had to look at it for a second. I was trying to be a green letter, too.
01:21:21
Speaker 3: I was trying to figure it out.
01:21:24
Speaker 1: I was like, what is this, bud? He got a watch.
01:21:27
Speaker 5: He willing to give a white woman a watch and 300K plus, Jay.
01:21:32
Speaker 2: He want to be a green letter.
01:21:35
Speaker 9: Fuck what you talking about that do bring up an interesting point I didn't even think about until you just said it like what are you doing all this for if you don't want to do this there's no reason for you to find out what the fuck to do why the fuck.
01:21:48
Speaker 5: Do you care it goes to Jay's point when you talk about it from that angle you know what I'm talking about Lou you quit looking confused when you know exactly what I'm talking about because you've gone back for less laughing.
01:22:03
Speaker 2: I know you. We all have. We all have. And we all were like, damn, bro. You'd be mad as hell. You'd be on the car ride home.
01:22:14
Speaker 5: I don't know why I can't get that monkey off my back.
01:22:21
Speaker 2: It ain't never good to me. You're right.
01:22:26
Speaker 5: What was your reaction to how when he was really opening up to him?
01:22:31
Speaker 2: About his dad.
01:22:31
Speaker 5: Once he saved his life, because John was about to kill himself. We didn't even see it, but that's what Hal was saying. And from seeing that, that triggered something in even the hologram version of Hal. He was like, alright, let me tell you about what actually really happened to my daddy. You know when the white men start talking, they be saying some shit.
01:22:47
Speaker 1: And they get quiet too. He was quiet for a minute. Hal was like, Hal is never quiet.
01:22:53
Speaker 3: Yeah, this is when they made everything else that we've watched up to this point make sense with Hal. And Actually talking it through with you guys, the trigger for him was how, I mean, John put in the gun to his head about to pull the trigger. And that gave him that thought or reminder of what happened or made it like real close. Almost like, I don't want to say that his dad did that because we don't know how, but.
01:23:23
Speaker 1: It was a quick reminder.
01:23:25
Speaker 3: But for whatever reason, this hologram version of John has been thinking about his dad.
01:23:30
Speaker 1: Because he had brought it up earlier when it was to carry.
01:23:33
Speaker 3: So it's almost like the people that he feels like he's close to, he can be a little bit more vulnerable with. So did he tell you about my dad? And that will let me know how much he trusts you. So is this version of Hal either trying to intervene and stop John from doing something that Hal suspects... the live version of him or used to be live version of him did based on the legacy of the men in that family?
01:24:08
Speaker 1: Or is this him now feeling.
01:24:10
Speaker 3: Like I can get a little bit closer to you and now I can reveal like what happened because I feel like you're somebody that's trustworthy.
01:24:21
Speaker 1: Um, so it was, it was, it was, it was a really good thing. It really was.
01:24:24
Speaker 2: What were your thoughts on it, Lou?
01:24:31
Speaker 7: I thought this thing was good, too. Them connecting, him showing a slight vulnerability. I liked his dad popping up and him still not trusting Al, even when he saved him and being like, you trying to kill me? That should save your life, honestly. This whole thing worked. It added to the lore of the planet or wherever the hell they was in the world building.
01:24:56
Speaker 2: So I liked it.
01:24:57
Speaker 1: He said, I told you that we get that poncho was important.
01:25:00
Speaker 2: I told you that poncho was important. I like that line. I told you, bro. He's so thought out. He thought out.
01:25:06
Speaker 7: He's like, I know I need that for something. It wouldn't just be in here for no reason. I like that line a lot because that's his character.
01:25:11
Speaker 5: Jay, that's why Ken said he's smarter than the black man. Because he had a poncho. He had a poncho and a gun.
01:25:19
Speaker 2: He needed it, though, right?
01:25:23
Speaker 1: He kind of needed it. So, you know. Yeah.
01:25:31
Speaker 5: We then see John and Hal get to the other side of the planet, and then they run into an interested individual, which, Ken, I think you called it, as far as Sinestro not only breaking out of jail, but now we can assume Hal broke him out of jail. Yep.
01:25:46
Speaker 3: Yep.
01:25:47
Speaker 8: Yeah.
01:25:47
Speaker 1: So.
01:25:49
Speaker 5: Jay, what are your thoughts on John Mee and Sinestro? And also, hey, John got that one hit of quitter. Because every time he hits somebody with a one piece, they go down and they be looking up like, all right, well, we can talk about this. He said, oh, you got to be Jon Stewart if you're going to beat my ass up.
01:26:07
Speaker 1: I know who you is.
01:26:08
Speaker 2: It's the first time an alien has met a nigga. This is what they say about you.
01:26:26
Speaker 5: That's a violent individual.
01:26:32
Speaker 2: Y'all confirmed. Oh, man. I ain't got nothing.
01:26:40
Speaker 1: To say here, man.
01:26:41
Speaker 6: They knocked this shit out of Sinestro, bro. But again, this is the part of the ice. Where are we going from here? What are we doing? We got an episode left.
01:26:51
Speaker 2: What are we doing? I'm intrigued.
01:26:53
Speaker 5: But I'm nervous because, like, we got an episode left. You think it's going to go somewhere based off that?
01:26:59
Speaker 2: I don't know. They don't have to show him breaking him out, right? They could. They have to address that this last episode.
01:27:06
Speaker 1: How, though?
01:27:07
Speaker 2: How does he break him out? Because he didn't have the ring. You know what I'm saying?
01:27:11
Speaker 7: I think that's what the last episode is going to be about, how he broke him out and then what he had to do with Hal shooting himself or.
01:27:17
Speaker 2: Whoever that was sitting in the stadium.
01:27:20
Speaker 5: All right.
01:27:21
Speaker 2: In my opinion.
01:27:21
Speaker 7: That's what I, that's what, cause I was just like you in a sense of, okay, now we here and he there, like what happens from here? But it's way too big of a part of the show to Ken's point in an early episode. It's like he in this galactic jail, like how the fuck did he get out of there? You can't just tell us that John, John broke him out and he here now, like you got to show us that as a viewer, at least me, that's what I want to see.
01:27:46
Speaker 2: Yeah, we should see. We should see. I don't know. I was, I'm, I liked it, but I'm also like, damn, I hope y'all land this plane.
01:27:54
Speaker 5: Because, Ken, as someone else who I believe you read some of the Green Lantern comics, Jay, I know you did for sure. This is a weird situation that we're going into for season finale because from the lore of Green Lanterns, and I know I've been wrong about lore of Green Lanterns a lot, but from what I know for sure, this is the bad guy. and the way they're positioned in this series is like maybe the bad guys aren't who we think the bad guys are because we each fuck with how we trust how so if he broke out sinestro that must be for a good reason you know i'm saying even back even now that we're in 2026 or maybe he did it before then and he just kept him in this dimension until then. So I'm curious to think that will Jon join up with Sinestro and become like a yellow.
01:28:43
Speaker 2: He ain't going to be a Green Lantern, kid. He may be a yellow Lantern. Is there such a thing as a yellow lantern? Yeah, there is. They got all colors.
01:28:55
Speaker 5: The main ones is the only ones we give a fuck about is green, but there are yellow lanterns, and Sinestro is the nigga that starts that.
01:29:03
Speaker 1: Very inclusive.
01:29:05
Speaker 6: I am curious how they're going to flip it, because it's been mostly about fear. You know what I'm saying? But the green lantern is based off willpower.
01:29:16
Speaker 3: Yeah.
01:29:17
Speaker 6: I'm curious how they're going to flip that. Maybe that's why Sinestro is here.
01:29:20
Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying?
01:29:21
Speaker 2: Because, you know.
01:29:22
Speaker 5: Yeah, we got to learn about that. But like you said, we only got an hour left.
01:29:26
Speaker 2: That's what I'm saying.
01:29:27
Speaker 6: That's what I'm saying. It's like, I like this, but how y'all going to get all this in? But that's another reason why I'm like, maybe a season two, because it's like little nuggets that they could leave open.
01:29:36
Speaker 2: But I don't know. I get you. I get you.
01:29:38
Speaker 4: But again, I go back to how Watchmen ended.
01:29:41
Speaker 5: And Watchmen ended like, oh, this is going to be a crazy-ass season two.
01:29:46
Speaker 2: And we never going to get that. You know what I'm saying? They built it up more than this. So I think it's a movie. You know what I mean?
01:29:56
Speaker 5: But everything is leading to a season two. I can't deny that. But from what I'm seeing, this last episode is going to be really rushed. We're going to be left on the biggest cliffhanger ever. of the year.
01:30:07
Speaker 4: If we left on a cliffhanger, it's dropping out of my top five, Ken.
01:30:11
Speaker 2: It's going to top 15. Oh, it's in your top five?
01:30:15
Speaker 5: It's in my top five of the year right now. This and Linus. Right now, I'll just say this and Linus.
01:30:22
Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm about to say. Industry better not be in that top five. That's disgusting. Industry top 10. Industry top 10. Industry was crazy. You wasn't even on that review. I don't think he was on that review, Lou.
01:30:36
Speaker 3: I was.
01:30:38
Speaker 4: I wasn't on the review. I don't know if Jay was on. I forgot if Jay was on.
01:30:42
Speaker 2: It was all four of us. Oh, yeah, yeah.
01:30:46
Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know what angle they're going with, but if I recall correctly, the Guardians do be going crazy and doing some shit, bro.
01:30:59
Speaker 1: And we've seen in this....
01:31:03
Speaker 3: Season and in the episodes that the guardians can't be trusted they've told us that multiple times hal is alluded to it um and i think maybe just how i said it but yeah they've alluded to the fact that the guardians can't be trusted so they probably did some shit and he had to go get sinestro um to try to you know get them back in line but what it is i.
01:31:29
Speaker 2: Don't know.
01:31:31
Speaker 4: Yeah, this is a hell of an eighth episode.
01:31:36
Speaker 5: It better be. Because, Lou, I want to say at the end of this, I want to be like, you can watch it through and through and get a full story.
01:31:44
Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying?
01:31:45
Speaker 5: This could just be a great, elongated movie. But we got an hour left to see. It's going to stick the landing.
01:31:52
Speaker 7: I shouldn't watch this and be like, oh, now you got to watch this movie or you got to wait for this season or whatever it may be.
01:31:58
Speaker 2: I want them to. I tell you what, Hurst just got killed. Hey, y'all wrap this up. Yeah, go ahead. Go ahead and wrap this up, man.
01:32:12
Speaker 1: Hey, you were bad.
01:32:13
Speaker 2: God damn.
01:32:14
Speaker 1: You got nailed.
01:32:24
Speaker 2: Louis clearly ready to go.
01:32:28
Speaker 5: Those are our thoughts on this episode of Lanterns.
01:32:32
Speaker 2: Please let us know what.
01:32:33
Speaker 5: You guys think. FPS Podcast is the Reddit thread. That's also our handle for IG and Twitter. We'll catch you next week on the finale.
01:32:40
Speaker 1: We out.
01:32:40
Speaker 2: Peace.
01:32:41
Speaker 3: Peace.
