What Does Your Adam's Apple Actually Do? (Espresso)

Put two fingers on your throat and swallow. What exactly is that thing moving up and down?

There is no apple in anyone's throat, and the folklore about Adam choking on forbidden fruit does not appear anywhere in Genesis. The bump has been carrying a misleading name for centuries, along with a few assumptions about whose throat it belongs to and what it says about a voice.

It is not doing the job almost everyone assumes it is.
