00:00:12.160 --> 00:00:23.440
Hello, everybody, and welcome to Finding Your Innergator Podcast, where we talk about discipline, relationships, and the habits that release to greatness that is already inside of you.
00:00:23.679 --> 00:00:26.800
I'm your host, RB Wright, and I am so glad that you're here.
00:00:26.879 --> 00:00:40.240
In each episode, we'll explore powerful lessons, real life stories, and practical strategies to help you live intentionally, build meaningful relationships, and unlock your full potential.
00:00:40.560 --> 00:00:46.880
But greatness isn't something you stumble into, it's something that is built every single day.
00:00:47.119 --> 00:00:52.479
So let's get started and begin the journey to finding your innergator.
00:00:57.359 --> 00:01:00.479
All right, everybody, hello and welcome.
00:01:00.799 --> 00:01:09.519
You are listening to Finding Your Innergator Podcast, and I am your host, RB Wright, and as always, I am so glad that you are here.
00:01:09.680 --> 00:01:16.879
You know, over the last several weeks, we've been walking through what we've called the well hunting series.
00:01:17.120 --> 00:01:26.640
We've talked about research, we've talked about having a plan, your presentation, the fight, landing the fish, and aftercare.
00:01:28.719 --> 00:01:38.079
I've had so many people reach out and tell me how those lessons apply to their business, their relationships, and their goals, and thank you.
00:01:38.319 --> 00:01:38.879
Thank you.
00:01:38.959 --> 00:01:40.959
That really means a lot.
00:01:41.359 --> 00:01:45.760
But today, today's a little different.
00:01:46.000 --> 00:01:48.319
Today isn't about well hunting.
00:01:48.799 --> 00:01:51.120
It's not about winning a tournament.
00:01:51.920 --> 00:02:02.400
Today is about something that's actually kind of personal to me, and I was reminded over the last few weeks that I honestly think that it's this is even more important.
00:02:03.519 --> 00:02:04.959
I want to ask you a question.
00:02:05.040 --> 00:02:06.480
I want you to think about this.
00:02:08.080 --> 00:02:14.639
What if the greatest thing that you bring home isn't what you thought you were chasing?
00:02:16.639 --> 00:02:18.240
Let me tell you why I'm asking that.
00:02:18.479 --> 00:02:21.280
Maybe this will help clarify.
00:02:24.319 --> 00:02:32.159
A couple weeks ago, uh I fished in the East Coast got emotion classic King Mackel tournament.
00:02:32.560 --> 00:02:35.360
This thing's been going on for decades.
00:02:35.680 --> 00:02:38.560
It's one of the oldest King Mackel tournaments on the East Coast.
00:02:38.639 --> 00:02:41.039
It's a fun tournament to be a part of.
00:02:42.639 --> 00:02:48.479
This year I had uh my stepdaughter, I call her my daughter, right?
00:02:48.639 --> 00:02:54.639
Just clarifying, she is my stepdaughter, has been for, Lord, 17 years.
00:02:55.039 --> 00:02:58.639
Uh, but she wanted to fish as the lady angler.
00:02:58.800 --> 00:03:11.360
Now, I I was excited because I got her on the boat with me, uh, and she was taking a little bit of interest, uh, but I didn't know how it was going to go, right?
00:03:11.919 --> 00:03:18.479
So the first night we get to the captain's meeting, and she's walking around, kind of taking everything in.
00:03:19.360 --> 00:03:24.879
Got back and she, I told her, I said, we're leaving, you know, we've got to be ready to go at 5 a.m.
00:03:26.879 --> 00:03:27.840
Day one.
00:03:29.120 --> 00:03:31.919
Honestly, it was rough.
00:03:32.639 --> 00:03:33.759
Heavy winds.
00:03:33.919 --> 00:03:39.120
We actually stayed kind of close, uh, got beat up on the water.
00:03:39.360 --> 00:03:41.199
Uh, we caught a couple of sharks.
00:03:41.360 --> 00:03:50.639
We had a few what we call short strikes where the reels would go off and the fish either threw the hook or just bit the bait in half and didn't get hooked.
00:03:50.800 --> 00:03:52.879
No kings, no mahi.
00:03:54.319 --> 00:04:02.639
It's just riding, we followed a plan, but man, riding back to the dike, I was thinking, man, that did not go as planned.
00:04:02.879 --> 00:04:05.360
And I could tell she was worn out.
00:04:06.639 --> 00:04:10.319
Like I said, it was her first offshore tournament.
00:04:12.319 --> 00:04:20.800
We actually had a conversation, we being my, I call them my line guys, my mate, his name's uh Hunter, Hunter Jacobs.
00:04:21.279 --> 00:04:27.199
He and I talked the night before, didn't know she was going to want to go because the weather was so bad on Saturday.
00:04:27.279 --> 00:04:28.959
It's a two-day tournament.
00:04:29.439 --> 00:04:43.680
But we had that conversation on Saturday night, and I honestly wondered if she'd even want to go back after sitting out there for 10 hours getting beat up and not have anything to show for it, and the wind's blowing, it was rough.
00:04:44.800 --> 00:04:46.800
But you know what happened?
00:04:47.839 --> 00:04:51.519
I told him we got to leave earlier on Sunday.
00:04:53.120 --> 00:04:56.560
We're gonna be at the truck at 4 45 a.m.
00:04:59.040 --> 00:05:00.480
She beat us up.
00:05:00.639 --> 00:05:02.240
She was ready before we were.
00:05:02.319 --> 00:05:03.199
She was excited.
00:05:03.279 --> 00:05:05.920
There was no complaining, no excuses.
00:05:06.800 --> 00:05:08.959
She wanted another shot.
00:05:09.680 --> 00:05:12.879
Right there, that told me something.
00:05:13.279 --> 00:05:18.959
Champions don't need yesterday to go their way to show up today.
00:05:19.120 --> 00:05:23.839
They don't need it to go the way they wanted, just show up and try again.
00:05:24.639 --> 00:05:32.240
We met up in my shop, 445, loaded up, headed to the marina, and I told them on the way, we're gonna follow a different plan today.
00:05:32.399 --> 00:05:34.160
It's gonna be a little bit better weather.
00:05:34.319 --> 00:05:38.560
We took a different approach, we had different water, different mindset.
00:05:38.879 --> 00:05:40.000
We called Mahi.
00:05:40.240 --> 00:05:44.480
In fact, she's letting the line out, and all of a sudden it started screaming, and she had a Mahi on.
00:05:44.639 --> 00:05:46.399
We called a nice king.
00:05:46.639 --> 00:05:48.240
We had a great day.
00:05:48.480 --> 00:05:49.839
Now here's the interesting part.
00:05:49.920 --> 00:05:59.279
I'd been talking to some folks, and I knew that the top fish were going to be between 30 and 40 pounds.
00:05:59.439 --> 00:06:04.240
Actually, a 61-pound fish, which was incredible, was weighed in.
00:06:04.480 --> 00:06:07.759
And our fish is probably 18 to 22 pounds.
00:06:07.920 --> 00:06:11.040
We could have been somewhere where we got a little something for it.
00:06:11.199 --> 00:06:22.639
And we could have burned fuel running all the way back to the weigh station, probably about an hour and a half, two-hour run, and say, hey, we weighed a fish, let her experience that.
00:06:22.720 --> 00:06:25.839
Even though we knew the king wasn't going to be where we wanted.
00:06:26.399 --> 00:06:28.800
And I asked, what do you want to do?
00:06:30.560 --> 00:06:33.040
She wanted to stay out and keep fishing.
00:06:33.360 --> 00:06:39.199
She was having so much fun, smiling, ear to ear, learning as much as she could.
00:06:39.360 --> 00:06:43.600
We caught more fish, saw some things that she never would have seen.
00:06:43.759 --> 00:06:46.639
We laughed, we talked, we made memories.
00:06:48.000 --> 00:06:52.879
Had fresh Mahi tacos for dinner.
00:06:53.600 --> 00:06:56.959
On paper, we didn't win.
00:06:57.600 --> 00:06:58.800
On paper.
00:07:00.160 --> 00:07:03.279
But nobody on that boat felt like we lost.
00:07:04.160 --> 00:07:07.040
Then that made me start thinking about another tournament.
00:07:08.000 --> 00:07:14.000
About three or four weeks ago, I fished a red fish tournament, an inshore tournament with my dad.
00:07:14.240 --> 00:07:15.839
He's 76 years old.
00:07:16.000 --> 00:07:18.000
Think about that, 76.
00:07:20.800 --> 00:07:24.319
I picked him up at his dock at daylight.
00:07:24.720 --> 00:07:26.639
We talked all day.
00:07:26.879 --> 00:07:29.839
On a boat with no cover, on a small boat, no cover.
00:07:30.079 --> 00:07:31.920
Just sitting there in the sun.
00:07:32.079 --> 00:07:33.920
It poured down rain some.
00:07:34.800 --> 00:07:36.319
We talked, we laughed.
00:07:36.399 --> 00:07:39.439
We picked apart every decision we made all day.
00:07:39.759 --> 00:07:41.120
He caught some flounder.
00:07:41.199 --> 00:07:42.560
He loves catching flounder.
00:07:42.720 --> 00:07:45.439
And we caught a redfish at the last minute.
00:07:45.759 --> 00:07:48.800
Now, we didn't finish where we wanted to.
00:07:48.959 --> 00:07:51.040
We didn't win the entire tournament.
00:07:51.360 --> 00:07:53.439
We did win something, which was good.
00:07:53.600 --> 00:07:54.560
We placed.
00:07:55.519 --> 00:07:58.160
But somewhere during that day it hit me.
00:07:59.439 --> 00:08:08.399
There's only so many more mornings that I can pick him up at his dock, and he'll be sitting beside me in a tournament.
00:08:08.720 --> 00:08:15.759
There's going to come a day that I would give anything for one more tournament with my dad.
00:08:16.959 --> 00:08:19.279
You know, I've been thinking about that a lot.
00:08:19.759 --> 00:08:22.079
It's funny how we keep score, right?
00:08:22.240 --> 00:08:29.920
We keep score by trophies, by plaques, by rankings, by dollars, by followers, by titles, who finished first.
00:08:32.000 --> 00:08:33.120
But life.
00:08:34.639 --> 00:08:37.279
Life keeps score a little differently.
00:08:37.759 --> 00:08:45.440
It keeps score by memories, by relationships, by conversations, by sunsets.
00:08:46.240 --> 00:08:50.159
By teaching your daughter how to tournament fish.
00:08:50.480 --> 00:08:53.679
By watching your dad smile when a fish hits.
00:08:56.000 --> 00:09:01.039
By them looking at you, both of them saying, Hey, when are we going again?
00:09:03.279 --> 00:09:06.320
Those things never show up on a leaderboard.
00:09:07.360 --> 00:09:10.879
But they're things that you'll remember 20 years from now.
00:09:11.679 --> 00:09:18.080
You know, one of the foundations of Intergator is optimizing relationships.
00:09:18.159 --> 00:09:19.360
We're talking about it all the time.
00:09:19.440 --> 00:09:21.120
I said it a hundred times.
00:09:21.440 --> 00:09:27.840
Gator, the original acronym is greatness achieved through optimizing relationships.
00:09:28.000 --> 00:09:34.720
Notice I didn't say greatness achieved by accumulating trophies, accumulating money, accumulating titles.
00:09:35.679 --> 00:09:37.039
Relationships.
00:09:38.799 --> 00:09:44.240
Because when life is over, nobody asks how many terminates you entered.
00:09:45.200 --> 00:09:47.840
But they will remember who you entered them with.
00:09:48.159 --> 00:09:50.320
Nobody remembers the fish.
00:09:50.720 --> 00:09:54.559
They remember the stories, the laughter, the people.
00:09:55.840 --> 00:10:03.519
You know, I started thinking maybe we spend too much time chasing success.
00:10:05.600 --> 00:10:11.279
And not enough time just recognizing it when it's already sitting beside us.
00:10:13.440 --> 00:10:18.159
Jillian wanted to win the tournament, but she didn't need to win that tournament.
00:10:18.399 --> 00:10:19.840
She needed confidence.
00:10:20.000 --> 00:10:21.519
She needed encouragement.
00:10:21.759 --> 00:10:24.799
She needed another reason to want to fish with me.
00:10:25.039 --> 00:10:27.039
My dad didn't need another trophy.
00:10:27.120 --> 00:10:29.200
He just needed another day on the water.
00:10:29.360 --> 00:10:31.360
And honestly, so did I.
00:10:32.720 --> 00:10:36.480
You know, I'm I've accomplished some things professionally that I'm very proud of.
00:10:36.559 --> 00:10:38.000
I've recruited great people.
00:10:38.159 --> 00:10:41.759
I've built some really good teams.
00:10:42.480 --> 00:10:45.919
I've had the opportunity to speak on a lot of stages, build businesses.
00:10:46.000 --> 00:10:51.519
But if you ask me what I remember years from now, it's not going to be the production numbers.
00:10:52.159 --> 00:11:01.519
It'll be the mornings on the boat, the rides to the endlet, watching the sun come up over the ocean, watching somebody catch their first fish.
00:11:03.519 --> 00:11:05.600
Those are the things that matter.
00:11:05.840 --> 00:11:09.440
Now for you, it may not be a boat, but I think you get my point.
00:11:10.159 --> 00:11:15.039
And my challenge for you this week is don't just chase the trophy.
00:11:15.600 --> 00:11:17.279
Don't just chase the promotion.
00:11:17.440 --> 00:11:19.279
Don't just chase the next deal.
00:11:19.519 --> 00:11:23.519
Ask yourself, who are you talking to?
00:11:24.080 --> 00:11:26.080
Who are you taking with you?
00:11:26.559 --> 00:11:28.240
What are you investing in?
00:11:28.480 --> 00:11:31.440
Who needs more of your time than your money?
00:11:31.679 --> 00:11:40.559
Because I promise you, one day you're going to discover that the greatest catch wasn't the fish, it was the people standing beside you when you caught it.
00:11:42.720 --> 00:11:49.919
You know, every week, I tell you that there's greatness inside of you.
00:11:50.159 --> 00:11:51.360
I know it's there.
00:11:51.519 --> 00:11:56.080
And I'm trying my best to help you find it and release it.
00:11:56.240 --> 00:12:02.639
But today I want to remind you of something else: that greatness is not just measured by what you accomplish.
00:12:04.399 --> 00:12:10.960
It's measured by who you become and who you bring along with you.
00:12:13.840 --> 00:12:16.320
Thank you for spending a few minutes with me today.
00:12:16.480 --> 00:12:17.519
Thank you for listening.
00:12:17.679 --> 00:12:19.679
Thank you for sharing this podcast.
00:12:19.840 --> 00:12:22.080
I really, that says a lot.
00:12:23.200 --> 00:12:27.120
And I thank you for allowing me to share a little bit of my life with you.
00:12:27.360 --> 00:12:36.559
I hope that you have an incredible week and that you spend some time with people who matter and you make some great memories.
00:12:37.120 --> 00:12:41.519
And as always, go Gatorize your day.
00:12:42.399 --> 00:12:47.840
Everybody, thank you so much for listening to the Finding Your Inner Gator podcast.
00:12:48.080 --> 00:12:54.240
You know, if today's episode helped you, share it with someone who needs to hear this message.
00:12:54.399 --> 00:13:01.519
Remember, greatness is achieved through discipline, intentional action, and optimizing the relationships around you.
00:13:02.320 --> 00:13:05.120
I look forward to getting with you next week.
00:13:05.440 --> 00:13:08.799
Now, go Gatorize your day.
