In this episode of FailCraft, network engineer, dark fantasy author, and creator of the VaelorinVerse JustinAnderson (writing under the pen name J. Vaelorin) joins Ezekiel to discussturning personal grief, clinical depression, and invisible psychological woundsinto a living fictional mythology. What began as an ordinary side project towrite a formulaic fantasy novel quickly shifted when suppressed memories—including18 years of unspoken grief following his grandmother’s battle withcancer—poured onto the page.
Justin explains whyconventional wellness books and clinical therapy often fail first responders, firefighters, and caregivers who face workplace stigmas or struggle to expresstheir pain directly. He introduces the concept of "I-door"internalization versus "E-door" externalization, detailing how darkfantasy gives readers permission to process heavy emotions by projecting theirtrauma onto fictional characters. He also explores his unique magicsystem—where trauma acts as a literal source of power requiring ongoing balancerather than an instant cure—and unpacks how his story Burning Guilthelps paramedics confront survivor's guilt.
