The way that we are all taught to measure ourselves, see how we are progressing, seek validation for how we are feeling or discover what we think we are supposed to do and be is by comparing ourselves to others.
And when you live with chronic illness and are facing so many unknowns and uncertainties, you are even more motivated to have that validation, try to predict what your future will bring, find community and gain valuable knowledge.
But gaining those things can become a double edged sword and leave you feeling even more isolated, self-doubting and worse than ever.
So, let's have an honest talk about why we compare, what motivates us to do so and all of the potential consequences and realities that can come from our chronic illness comparisons.
