legal drinking age. This is Drinking With Now. Here's your host,

reached the legal drinking age. I'm your host, Steph mccash

00:00:41.600 --> 00:00:43.960
or the Sobros Network, and join me as we embark
9
00:00:44.000 --> 00:00:47.000
on a cinematic journey through the classics of yesteryear, celebrating
10
00:00:47.200 --> 00:00:50.679
their twenty first first days and styles, from iconic blockbusters
11
00:00:50.679 --> 00:00:53.240
to hitting gyms. Each episode will toast to a different
12
00:00:53.240 --> 00:00:55.719
film that has stood the test of time and shaped
13
00:00:55.759 --> 00:00:58.600
our cultural landscape. So grab your favorite beverage or the
14
00:00:58.640 --> 00:01:01.280
one we've curated for this episode, and let's dive into
15
00:01:01.280 --> 00:01:04.359
the nostalgias explore movies that are finally old enough to
16
00:01:04.480 --> 00:01:06.799
join us for a drink. Joining me at the bars
17
00:01:06.840 --> 00:01:10.400
we always do, as always are the two best people
18
00:01:10.439 --> 00:01:11.959
I can think of to stumble out of the bar
19
00:01:12.079 --> 00:01:14.599
after a long discussion of movies. First, as the resident
20
00:01:14.680 --> 00:01:17.719
film critic of the Sobros Network, mister Brandon Vick who's
21
00:01:17.760 --> 00:01:20.959
also a member of the Southeastern Film Critics Association, a
22
00:01:21.000 --> 00:01:23.879
board member of the Music City Film Critics Association, and
23
00:01:23.959 --> 00:01:26.280
most importantly, the birth giver of the Vick Flicks and
24
00:01:26.359 --> 00:01:29.760
Cinema Chronicles podcast that you could hear right here or
25
00:01:29.760 --> 00:01:32.560
wherever you get your podcast from. And joining him is
26
00:01:32.599 --> 00:01:35.719
the man behind the Sobros Network, the eic, the glue
27
00:01:35.760 --> 00:01:40.319
of the brand, Jennificionado, multiple cat lover and all around
28
00:01:40.319 --> 00:01:44.640
football wordsmith and budding sports talk radio starff I may
29
00:01:44.680 --> 00:01:46.840
say so myself here at one o four point five
30
00:01:47.319 --> 00:01:52.079
the zone and probably hopefully you know, I'm not trying
31
00:01:52.079 --> 00:01:54.560
to read in my no stre damas stuff, but maybe
32
00:01:54.599 --> 00:01:57.359
a happy Titans fan here in as we end the
33
00:01:57.439 --> 00:02:00.680
year going into January, missus Stony Keeley is here with
34
00:02:00.760 --> 00:02:03.359
us as always, gentlemen, how are we doing as we
35
00:02:03.400 --> 00:02:04.319
approach the new year?
36
00:02:05.280 --> 00:02:09.159
Pretty good? Mcashuh, I don't know, uh, I don't know.
37
00:02:09.240 --> 00:02:10.639
I you know what I'm gonna say, I'm gonna be
38
00:02:10.680 --> 00:02:13.719
optimistic and say I'm a happy Titans fan. Right now.
39
00:02:13.919 --> 00:02:16.840
This program's headed in the right direction. They've got their
40
00:02:16.879 --> 00:02:20.240
franchise quarterback, the offense is clicking. They just need a
41
00:02:20.240 --> 00:02:22.879
couple more pieces to really become a contender. That's all.
42
00:02:23.039 --> 00:02:24.680
I think. Will Levis is going to break some.
43
00:02:24.599 --> 00:02:25.599
More records.
44
00:02:28.840 --> 00:02:31.879
They just traded for Micah Parsons that just came across
45
00:02:32.439 --> 00:02:34.400
the timeline before we record.
46
00:02:34.960 --> 00:02:39.000
Yeah, yeah, silly, Jerry Jones. This is my favorite time
47
00:02:39.039 --> 00:02:40.879
of year. I feel like we say it every year,
48
00:02:40.919 --> 00:02:45.039
but the time, by the time this episode is actually released,
49
00:02:45.120 --> 00:02:49.800
I will be on my holiday break from writing and
50
00:02:49.919 --> 00:02:53.719
podcasting outside of my obligations to one four to five
51
00:02:53.800 --> 00:02:58.000
the Zone you never saw, but all the other stuff, Well,
52
00:02:58.080 --> 00:03:00.520
we'll take a little bit of break and my feet
53
00:03:00.599 --> 00:03:03.199
up and just kind of reflect on the year that
54
00:03:03.479 --> 00:03:05.560
was and planned for the year ahead. Which is why
55
00:03:05.599 --> 00:03:08.599
I liked this episode is because now we've had this
56
00:03:08.840 --> 00:03:11.759
entire season of this show, we've talked about all these movies,
57
00:03:11.800 --> 00:03:14.680
and now we kind of look back and examine what
58
00:03:14.800 --> 00:03:17.080
we missed and examined the year that was, in this
59
00:03:17.159 --> 00:03:18.039
case two thousand and.
60
00:03:18.039 --> 00:03:20.599
Four, and some that we probably should have watched instead
61
00:03:20.599 --> 00:03:21.919
of others.
62
00:03:21.560 --> 00:03:25.560
That's probably fair as well. We are indeed recapping the
63
00:03:25.599 --> 00:03:28.000
year that was two thousand and four, and two thousand
64
00:03:28.000 --> 00:03:31.759
and four was a year of global transformation and cultural milestones,
65
00:03:31.840 --> 00:03:36.199
like in politics, George W won reelection in the US election,
66
00:03:36.360 --> 00:03:37.840
defeating John Kerry.
67
00:03:38.759 --> 00:03:44.199
The obviously the first election that I really paid attention
68
00:03:44.360 --> 00:03:50.599
to as like, oh, I wasn't I had turned eight.
69
00:03:50.680 --> 00:03:54.560
I don't remember if that was the first election I
70
00:03:54.560 --> 00:03:57.560
could vote in, or if it was just that I
71
00:03:57.680 --> 00:03:59.719
was old enough, like I thought, Hey, I should be
72
00:03:59.759 --> 00:04:01.879
paying attention and caring about this stuff.
73
00:04:02.280 --> 00:04:04.800
I remember thinking why is George W. Because I didn't
74
00:04:04.800 --> 00:04:06.960
know much about politics, I thought, why is George W
75
00:04:07.080 --> 00:04:11.960
running against Jim Carrey? Until I saw a debate and
76
00:04:12.000 --> 00:04:14.719
I thought, oh, this is this is not what I thought.
77
00:04:14.960 --> 00:04:15.759
It's weird.
78
00:04:15.840 --> 00:04:18.759
Ma, So I just went on ahead and just like
79
00:04:18.959 --> 00:04:23.360
just decided not to vote ever again good to confusing, Yeah,
80
00:04:23.399 --> 00:04:24.759
but things have turned out great.
81
00:04:25.000 --> 00:04:27.560
This was a transformative year for us. This was the
82
00:04:27.639 --> 00:04:31.120
year that we graduated high school. Yeah, a lot going
83
00:04:31.160 --> 00:04:31.680
on that year.
84
00:04:31.839 --> 00:04:36.439
We started college, had big boys, Yeah, started smashing beer
85
00:04:36.519 --> 00:04:37.519
cans on our heads.
86
00:04:38.040 --> 00:04:42.000
I moved from Atlanta to South Carolina in two thousand
87
00:04:42.000 --> 00:04:42.879
and four, so that.
88
00:04:42.920 --> 00:04:46.319
Was all, oh wow, Sorry, I wasn't done with our
89
00:04:46.360 --> 00:04:49.199
bacheldors just throwing use condoms all over the place. Who
90
00:04:49.240 --> 00:04:50.759
cared where they went.
91
00:04:51.480 --> 00:04:53.279
And by yous, you mean you just like blow them
92
00:04:53.360 --> 00:04:55.560
up like balloons and then just let them go.
93
00:04:55.600 --> 00:04:57.920
I threw use condoms. I didn't say they were mine.
94
00:04:58.240 --> 00:05:01.120
Oh I'm we lived in a dorm.
95
00:05:01.279 --> 00:05:03.480
Yeah, it's crazy. It's just so crazy.
96
00:05:04.639 --> 00:05:06.800
Oh, Murphy's Borough, it's a fine place.
97
00:05:06.839 --> 00:05:08.800
That is Harvard of the South.
98
00:05:08.920 --> 00:05:09.360
That's right.
99
00:05:09.439 --> 00:05:11.800
I hear people say that, and I.
100
00:05:11.720 --> 00:05:15.560
Think they and I just saw pictures of a beautiful football.
101
00:05:16.439 --> 00:05:18.439
They upgraded their facility facility thing.
102
00:05:18.639 --> 00:05:23.000
Thanks Kevin Bayern, the Kings of a Conference USA. Lookout right,
103
00:05:23.160 --> 00:05:26.560
that's right. To get his back off track, we could
104
00:05:26.639 --> 00:05:29.199
touch on some more highlights or low lights from the year.
105
00:05:29.240 --> 00:05:32.519
Two thousand and four, the European Union saw its largest
106
00:05:32.560 --> 00:05:37.040
expansion ever, welcoming welcoming ten new member countries, reshaping the
107
00:05:37.120 --> 00:05:40.959
landscape of Europe. But tragedy did strike in December, with
108
00:05:41.199 --> 00:05:45.519
the Indiana Ocean tsunami, one of the deadliest natural disasters,
109
00:05:45.800 --> 00:05:50.639
claiming over two hundred and thirty thousand lives across fourteen countries.
110
00:05:50.959 --> 00:05:53.759
My god, fourteen countries.
111
00:05:53.319 --> 00:05:56.720
That I've forgotten about that. Yeah, shame on you, shame
112
00:05:56.759 --> 00:05:58.319
on me. You're right, that's true.
113
00:05:58.759 --> 00:06:02.839
Two thousand and four was the birth year of Facebook
114
00:06:03.240 --> 00:06:06.319
or my Facebook or the Facebook as it was called.
115
00:06:06.759 --> 00:06:09.600
Ayah, and that was back when you had to actually
116
00:06:09.600 --> 00:06:10.720
be a student.
117
00:06:10.360 --> 00:06:12.600
At Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, yep.
118
00:06:12.680 --> 00:06:13.360
Yeah.
119
00:06:13.399 --> 00:06:15.560
So that happened in a Harvard dorm room. And then
120
00:06:15.600 --> 00:06:20.720
meanwhile NASA's Mars Rover Spirit and Opportunity began sending back
121
00:06:20.759 --> 00:06:22.600
studying images from the red planet.
122
00:06:23.920 --> 00:06:25.600
Wow, what a time to be alive.
123
00:06:25.839 --> 00:06:29.079
Yeah, to go back to the Facebook. Do you do
124
00:06:29.120 --> 00:06:33.720
you remember having those accounts and then when they announced
125
00:06:33.720 --> 00:06:36.759
that they were going to start letting everybody have Facebook accounts?
126
00:06:36.959 --> 00:06:38.279
Was there a part of you that was just kind
127
00:06:38.279 --> 00:06:40.959
of like, oh, oh, they're letting the peasants in now.
128
00:06:41.240 --> 00:06:45.199
I remember thinking, oh shit, my parents can get it. Yeah,
129
00:06:45.319 --> 00:06:47.759
which they they they did, but it was about twenty
130
00:06:47.839 --> 00:06:53.480
years later and when I am not when I quit that.
131
00:06:54.519 --> 00:06:58.959
You used to treat Facebook like an art medium. It
132
00:06:59.000 --> 00:07:01.079
was a stage for you. You would post some of
133
00:07:01.120 --> 00:07:04.759
the most ridiculous stories yeah as your STATUSSM and never
134
00:07:04.879 --> 00:07:06.160
tell anybody you were joking.
135
00:07:06.240 --> 00:07:10.079
Yeah, those were real bits, good bits. Yeah, and your
136
00:07:10.120 --> 00:07:12.160
top is that my space?
137
00:07:12.360 --> 00:07:13.040
My space was.
138
00:07:14.519 --> 00:07:17.720
Okay Facebook, Yeah, but you know what I didn't start.
139
00:07:18.120 --> 00:07:22.360
I didn't even do Facebook until I think I was
140
00:07:22.399 --> 00:07:24.720
a sophomore or junior in college.
141
00:07:25.560 --> 00:07:28.959
Yeah, it was in college. It was twenty two thousand
142
00:07:28.959 --> 00:07:30.959
and six was when my account was Yeah.
143
00:07:30.639 --> 00:07:33.439
So like it's not I when we first started, I
144
00:07:33.959 --> 00:07:37.040
didn't really. I was the last one in our group
145
00:07:37.079 --> 00:07:38.759
to text. I was probably the last one in the
146
00:07:38.800 --> 00:07:43.360
group to join Facebook. If I text, it would say yes, yeah,
147
00:07:43.399 --> 00:07:47.120
and then I called but but yeah, no, but I
148
00:07:47.120 --> 00:07:52.439
don't even God the how innocent things used to be.
149
00:07:54.480 --> 00:07:58.759
Yep, not that that question was directed at me, but sir,
150
00:07:58.879 --> 00:08:02.399
I was twenty nine years old and well removed from college,
151
00:08:02.399 --> 00:08:05.680
so I didn't have the opportunity until the peasants were
152
00:08:05.720 --> 00:08:10.040
allowed into the Facebook. Because I'm old.
153
00:08:11.399 --> 00:08:14.120
My apologies, I didn't.
154
00:08:14.160 --> 00:08:15.920
I didn't really think much about it because I knew
155
00:08:15.959 --> 00:08:17.800
people of a certain age don't I to use a computer.
156
00:08:19.360 --> 00:08:22.240
They'll never get on, They'll never get in here. Ever.
157
00:08:22.920 --> 00:08:26.519
H pop culture wise, we had uh, the Incredibles and
158
00:08:26.600 --> 00:08:30.560
Shrek to dominating the box office throughout the year. Yeah,
159
00:08:30.639 --> 00:08:33.559
Friends aired its final episode, marking the end of a
160
00:08:33.600 --> 00:08:37.080
TV era, and then that was back then.
161
00:08:37.320 --> 00:08:39.159
I felt like it went on a few more years.
162
00:08:39.279 --> 00:08:42.039
Two two thousand and four, they pivoted.
163
00:08:43.200 --> 00:08:45.759
That's that's I have not watched. I may have watched
164
00:08:45.799 --> 00:08:48.639
five episodes of Friends, and my wife showed me that
165
00:08:48.720 --> 00:08:53.279
pivot one and it cracks me every time. And we
166
00:08:53.639 --> 00:08:56.200
just moved my brother in law not too long ago,
167
00:08:56.360 --> 00:08:59.279
and we were lifting up something and almost I would
168
00:08:59.320 --> 00:09:01.200
say a good poor of us were screaming.
169
00:09:03.720 --> 00:09:09.679
Yet Friends, I'm not a fan of the show either,
170
00:09:09.759 --> 00:09:14.559
but they're they're The Thanksgiving episode with Brad Pitt is fantastic.
171
00:09:15.879 --> 00:09:17.840
There's probably one or two others that I care for,
172
00:09:18.519 --> 00:09:22.720
but uh, musically it was dominated by Usher and Outcast
173
00:09:22.879 --> 00:09:24.960
with yeah and Hey, y'ah.
174
00:09:24.559 --> 00:09:31.159
Oh my god, that Yeah dropping our senior year was
175
00:09:31.240 --> 00:09:36.639
like the first that was It really juiced up an
176
00:09:36.759 --> 00:09:38.480
entire class of high schoolers.
177
00:09:38.919 --> 00:09:41.360
That's what should have been our prom song instead of
178
00:09:41.399 --> 00:09:42.279
that green but.
179
00:09:42.200 --> 00:09:44.679
There were That was the first song that I remember
180
00:09:44.759 --> 00:09:48.759
really having phases to its popularity, where like it was
181
00:09:48.919 --> 00:09:52.799
wildly popular and then everybody got tired of it, but
182
00:09:52.840 --> 00:09:55.200
they still played it a lot, and then when they
183
00:09:55.200 --> 00:09:59.399
stopped playing it, everybody wanted it and they started playing
184
00:09:59.399 --> 00:10:03.000
it again. So like you had this phase where we
185
00:10:03.000 --> 00:10:05.639
were crazy about it, then we hated it, and then
186
00:10:05.679 --> 00:10:07.440
once it was gone, we were like no, no, no, bring
187
00:10:07.440 --> 00:10:10.480
it back. Yeah, And for like an entire year that
188
00:10:10.639 --> 00:10:12.720
was the big big dance song.
189
00:10:13.039 --> 00:10:16.679
I remember, hey yeah hey yeah, right, hey yeah hey yeah,
190
00:10:17.399 --> 00:10:21.919
because I well, what's even worse is and I still
191
00:10:21.960 --> 00:10:24.000
do it and when I hear it and my wife
192
00:10:24.039 --> 00:10:25.840
gets onto me. But it was funny back in the
193
00:10:25.919 --> 00:10:29.159
day when he would be like all right, all right,
194
00:10:29.200 --> 00:10:31.519
all right, I would just go I would say all
195
00:10:31.600 --> 00:10:32.960
right a thousand times.
196
00:10:33.120 --> 00:10:35.039
I remember then I.
197
00:10:34.960 --> 00:10:38.240
Would say whatever came next, but I just thought, what
198
00:10:38.360 --> 00:10:39.399
a song, And then he.
199
00:10:39.559 --> 00:10:43.960
Was slowly morphed into Matthew McConaughey and days and confused.
200
00:10:44.519 --> 00:10:47.120
Yeah, well that was dazed and confused, That's true.
201
00:10:47.279 --> 00:10:49.519
I remember times where like he would run the bit
202
00:10:49.639 --> 00:10:51.879
and people would just stop what they were doing and
203
00:10:51.960 --> 00:10:54.200
just everybody would watch them to see, like how long
204
00:10:54.279 --> 00:10:55.639
is he going to do it this time?
205
00:10:56.919 --> 00:10:59.679
And it's and it is better when clearly it is
206
00:10:59.720 --> 00:11:03.799
a song that like I shouldn't really even be attempting.
207
00:11:04.200 --> 00:11:06.240
But I just loved how he does that, and I
208
00:11:06.320 --> 00:11:09.679
just thought, my god, like it sounds like he's doing
209
00:11:09.679 --> 00:11:12.759
it forever. I don't think he actually is. Yeah, and
210
00:11:12.799 --> 00:11:14.720
I've built it in my head over the years, where
211
00:11:14.960 --> 00:11:18.240
where I think I'm doing the impression and then I realized,
212
00:11:18.320 --> 00:11:22.480
oh shit, I added like five hundred more, right, he
213
00:11:22.559 --> 00:11:23.919
actually didn't go that nut.
214
00:11:24.360 --> 00:11:29.320
Yeah, well I have found out what was the drink
215
00:11:29.360 --> 00:11:34.639
of the year. It's as simple. It's a cosmopolitan. I
216
00:11:34.679 --> 00:11:36.320
don't know if sex and the City was still a
217
00:11:36.360 --> 00:11:38.759
thing back then, but you know that's I think. So
218
00:11:39.320 --> 00:11:41.360
maybe that's why this was the drink of the year.
219
00:11:41.639 --> 00:11:42.480
Drink it on friends.
220
00:11:43.440 --> 00:11:46.320
I couldn't tell you. They always went to the coffee shop,
221
00:11:46.440 --> 00:11:47.519
so I don't think they drank.
222
00:11:48.039 --> 00:11:49.639
What about the passion of the Christ?
223
00:11:50.000 --> 00:11:52.080
Hey? Yeah, did they have cosmos?
224
00:11:52.320 --> 00:11:55.759
Possibly? But your traditional cosmo here that I've got is
225
00:11:55.799 --> 00:11:58.559
two ounces of vodka, a half ounce of triple sex,
226
00:11:58.799 --> 00:12:02.080
or I would use gram and that in this uh,
227
00:12:02.200 --> 00:12:05.320
three quarters of an ounce of cranberry juice cocktail, and
228
00:12:05.399 --> 00:12:08.159
a quarter ounce to half an ounce of fresh lime juice.
229
00:12:08.759 --> 00:12:08.919
Uh.
230
00:12:08.960 --> 00:12:11.559
And then you're gonna want an orange pill or twist
231
00:12:11.639 --> 00:12:14.600
whatever you prefer. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice, then
232
00:12:14.639 --> 00:12:18.000
add the vodka, triple sack, cranberry juice, and lime juice.
233
00:12:18.759 --> 00:12:21.279
Shake the cocktail. Shake it for about thirty seconds. Or
234
00:12:21.360 --> 00:12:23.960
until well chilled and then straight into a martini glass
235
00:12:24.399 --> 00:12:28.240
garnish with your orange pillar twist and then there you
236
00:12:28.279 --> 00:12:31.799
are your classic cocktail.
237
00:12:31.960 --> 00:12:36.200
And while you were reciting the recipem cash, I looked
238
00:12:36.279 --> 00:12:40.360
and its final air date was February twenty second, two
239
00:12:40.440 --> 00:12:41.120
thousand and four.
240
00:12:41.360 --> 00:12:44.440
Okay, that was Sex in the Cities. Yeah, so that
241
00:12:44.559 --> 00:12:45.799
in Friends both ended.
242
00:12:46.200 --> 00:12:49.399
Yeah what I said? Hey, I said it was a
243
00:12:49.440 --> 00:12:53.080
transformative year. And I know I just didn't specify that.
244
00:12:53.159 --> 00:12:55.000
I wasn't just talking about for us.
245
00:12:54.960 --> 00:12:57.679
Yeah, no, for the world.
246
00:12:58.039 --> 00:13:00.759
Wow. So you know, we talked about money on here.
247
00:13:00.799 --> 00:13:03.320
We talked about budget, box office, all that good stuff.
248
00:13:03.320 --> 00:13:05.279
It's hard for me to come up with the budget
249
00:13:05.320 --> 00:13:07.080
for two thousand and four, but I'm sure it was.
250
00:13:07.320 --> 00:13:07.960
It was hefty.
251
00:13:08.360 --> 00:13:12.000
What was the GDP of two thousand and four.
252
00:13:12.159 --> 00:13:15.559
I kind of kept my notes to strictly pop cultural stuff.
253
00:13:15.600 --> 00:13:17.200
But one thing we like to do on this film,
254
00:13:17.279 --> 00:13:21.279
especially the last year or so, is letterbox reviews, where
255
00:13:21.320 --> 00:13:24.480
I give you some letterbox reviews from the movie. We discussed, well,
256
00:13:24.480 --> 00:13:26.799
we're not discussing a movie, so I thought what would
257
00:13:26.840 --> 00:13:30.000
be fun with letterbox is I give you a review
258
00:13:30.320 --> 00:13:33.720
and you tell me the film from two thousand and
259
00:13:33.759 --> 00:13:37.080
four that this review ghosts with out of that and this.
260
00:13:37.519 --> 00:13:41.399
These are all reviews of films we did not review
261
00:13:41.440 --> 00:13:42.720
in two thousand and four.
262
00:13:42.960 --> 00:13:45.720
Oh okay, so we did you okatcha star?
263
00:13:45.960 --> 00:13:46.200
Yeah?
264
00:13:46.240 --> 00:13:48.720
Well, I'm bringing up two thousand and four movies because
265
00:13:48.759 --> 00:13:49.240
I need some.
266
00:13:50.759 --> 00:13:52.639
Do you remember what movies we've done?
267
00:13:53.399 --> 00:13:53.639
No?
268
00:13:53.639 --> 00:13:57.440
No, let me tell you this. When I see it,
269
00:13:57.799 --> 00:13:59.919
I will know, Okay, I'll.
270
00:13:59.759 --> 00:14:02.159
Put I'm going to give you the first one here.
271
00:14:02.879 --> 00:14:06.799
This is from K strictly the letter K. Five stars
272
00:14:06.799 --> 00:14:11.120
for this film. They just don't make feel good movies
273
00:14:11.200 --> 00:14:14.759
like this anymore. There's very few movies that literally have
274
00:14:14.879 --> 00:14:18.320
me smiling all the way through. This is definitely one
275
00:14:18.320 --> 00:14:19.600
of those films, though.
276
00:14:20.559 --> 00:14:21.679
The Passion of the Christ.
277
00:14:21.919 --> 00:14:26.399
Yeah, it is a comedy like Passion of the Christ. Though.
278
00:14:26.480 --> 00:14:28.480
Okay, I was gonna say, do we get a genre
279
00:14:28.759 --> 00:14:29.600
or this comedy?
280
00:14:30.519 --> 00:14:36.279
I one of these actors was in the Obama administration.
281
00:14:37.279 --> 00:14:39.480
Oh a Harold and Kumar movie.
282
00:14:40.000 --> 00:14:42.000
It is Harold and Kumar go to White Castle.
283
00:14:42.639 --> 00:14:44.519
Oh okay, I don't know if that was the first
284
00:14:44.519 --> 00:14:45.000
one or not.
285
00:14:45.159 --> 00:14:50.279
It was the first one. Our next film, Jerry three
286
00:14:50.279 --> 00:14:54.799
and a half stars, Public opinion seems sort of divided
287
00:14:54.840 --> 00:14:57.720
on this one, but at least we can all agree
288
00:14:58.240 --> 00:15:00.960
that the soundtrack goes fuck looking hard.
289
00:15:01.639 --> 00:15:03.279
Oh, the soundtrack goes hard.
290
00:15:05.159 --> 00:15:06.519
Well, can we have a genre?
291
00:15:07.159 --> 00:15:08.519
Uh, dramedy?
292
00:15:09.480 --> 00:15:15.039
Okay, dramedy Okay, I am gonna go divisive, but has
293
00:15:15.399 --> 00:15:18.559
but the soundtrack goes hard.
294
00:15:18.639 --> 00:15:22.679
The soundtrack did win a Grammy Award for Best Film.
295
00:15:23.240 --> 00:15:25.639
This has to be a iHeart huckebees.
296
00:15:26.120 --> 00:15:30.440
No, it is an indie film.
297
00:15:30.480 --> 00:15:31.360
You got served.
298
00:15:32.720 --> 00:15:37.600
Oh, that's a good guess. That's a good guess. Garden State, Garden.
299
00:15:37.159 --> 00:15:37.720
State is.
300
00:15:39.200 --> 00:15:40.000
That's a good one.
301
00:15:40.759 --> 00:15:46.279
Next one, Morgan three stars. This is the most I've
302
00:15:46.399 --> 00:15:48.759
cared about any sport ever.
303
00:15:50.919 --> 00:15:51.440
Wimbledon.
304
00:15:52.080 --> 00:15:57.960
Yeah, no, okay, hang on, I take my back, but
305
00:15:58.080 --> 00:15:59.840
that's one of the first things that comes up when
306
00:15:59.840 --> 00:16:01.000
I put into I think.
307
00:16:00.879 --> 00:16:03.919
That's like the let's see we did Friday Night Lights.
308
00:16:05.000 --> 00:16:05.559
Let me see?
309
00:16:05.639 --> 00:16:09.720
Oh boy, now see, I would think that dodgeball.
310
00:16:10.440 --> 00:16:11.440
It is dodgeball.
311
00:16:11.840 --> 00:16:12.480
There we go.
312
00:16:12.960 --> 00:16:14.679
I almost was gonna say miracle.
313
00:16:15.000 --> 00:16:17.960
All right, Oh yeah, that was a one. Yeah all right.
314
00:16:18.000 --> 00:16:21.759
So I'm going to give you two reviews for the
315
00:16:21.799 --> 00:16:24.120
same movie here. So I'll give you the two reviews
316
00:16:24.440 --> 00:16:31.799
first one is from Jiz Monkey any four stars, he says,
317
00:16:31.960 --> 00:16:35.360
or they say, Matt Damon knocks it out of the park.
318
00:16:36.480 --> 00:16:39.639
And then the second one, for the same film Adam
319
00:16:39.720 --> 00:16:43.320
Bolt with four stars as well, says, I choose to
320
00:16:43.440 --> 00:16:45.159
view this as a documentary.
321
00:16:47.360 --> 00:16:52.919
Oh man, that has Matt Damon. I'm not looking up
322
00:16:52.960 --> 00:16:55.639
Matt Damon, but I am looking through movies because in
323
00:16:55.679 --> 00:16:59.159
two thousand and four he says something about a documentary.
324
00:16:59.200 --> 00:17:01.480
I feel like that might be. I can't tell if
325
00:17:01.480 --> 00:17:05.039
that's a compliment or if it's like.
326
00:17:05.799 --> 00:17:09.480
It is not a documentary, but it is a comedy.
327
00:17:11.960 --> 00:17:12.519
Stuck on you?
328
00:17:12.720 --> 00:17:13.480
Is it stuck on you?
329
00:17:13.640 --> 00:17:15.160
It is not? Oh?
330
00:17:15.400 --> 00:17:17.279
I was thinking, was that two thousand and four?
331
00:17:19.920 --> 00:17:22.599
I will say, don't let Matt Damon throw you.
332
00:17:23.359 --> 00:17:25.599
That is throwing me because I'm picking.
333
00:17:26.680 --> 00:17:29.640
Oh maybe they got the person wrong. Or is Matt
334
00:17:29.680 --> 00:17:30.559
Damon actually in this.
335
00:17:31.039 --> 00:17:32.319
They did not get the person wrong?
336
00:17:33.039 --> 00:17:34.079
Okay, so he is in this.
337
00:17:34.720 --> 00:17:35.200
I don't know.
338
00:17:35.359 --> 00:17:39.559
Oh, Team America.
339
00:17:39.039 --> 00:17:41.319
Team America World Police is correct?
340
00:17:42.039 --> 00:17:48.839
Yeah? Oh yeah? And then with the documentary, I get
341
00:17:48.880 --> 00:17:49.240
it now.
342
00:17:50.440 --> 00:17:55.079
The last one I have, Josh Lewis four stars. This
343
00:17:55.119 --> 00:17:56.400
is a bit of a long one, so bear with
344
00:17:56.440 --> 00:18:01.440
me solid movie about an extremely normal just being a
345
00:18:01.480 --> 00:18:07.559
cool dude, flying planes, dating teenagers, drinking milk, making movies,
346
00:18:07.640 --> 00:18:12.599
talking about titties and lamas, having crippling disorders, exasperated by
347
00:18:12.599 --> 00:18:16.440
an industry and culture that celebrates wealth and progress above
348
00:18:16.440 --> 00:18:17.119
anything else.
349
00:18:19.079 --> 00:18:25.000
God is that Napoleon Dynamite is not God?
350
00:18:25.440 --> 00:18:26.160
Is it? Blow?
351
00:18:27.079 --> 00:18:31.599
It is a biopic aviator aviator indeed?
352
00:18:31.680 --> 00:18:35.720
Oh yeah, yeah, we almost did too. We did talk
353
00:18:35.759 --> 00:18:39.519
about we thought, yeah.
354
00:18:38.480 --> 00:18:41.440
We pivoted and decided since we did Million Dollar Baby,
355
00:18:41.480 --> 00:18:44.200
which was an Awards player, we would do The Terminal instead,
356
00:18:44.640 --> 00:18:46.200
which a couple of weeks ago.
357
00:18:47.279 --> 00:18:52.480
So that is our our first ever guess that.
358
00:18:53.160 --> 00:18:54.599
I like that game. I don't know how much our
359
00:18:54.640 --> 00:19:00.559
listeners like it, as we're sitting here like it was.
360
00:19:00.640 --> 00:19:01.559
It was fun.
361
00:19:01.359 --> 00:19:03.279
There, uh you know, and just as well.
362
00:19:04.119 --> 00:19:04.359
Yeah.
363
00:19:04.599 --> 00:19:06.440
Uh So I'm gonna start with the year in music
364
00:19:06.480 --> 00:19:08.200
for two thousand and four. We'll go through some of
365
00:19:08.240 --> 00:19:12.319
the highlights, low lights for some people. January third, Britney.
366
00:19:12.559 --> 00:19:16.400
She's in the news. She marries Jason Allen Alexander, not
367
00:19:16.440 --> 00:19:18.119
the Jason Alexander from Seinfeld.
368
00:19:18.559 --> 00:19:20.519
I remember that being the joke back then.
369
00:19:20.599 --> 00:19:25.799
Yeah, she marries Jason Alexander childhood friend in Las Vegas
370
00:19:26.279 --> 00:19:29.680
and then quickly annuls the wedding fifty five hours later.
371
00:19:30.920 --> 00:19:34.599
Was this when we started to think like things might
372
00:19:34.880 --> 00:19:35.759
be okay.
373
00:19:35.559 --> 00:19:37.880
This is the beginning of that fall, because.
374
00:19:37.680 --> 00:19:40.000
Like seven was the shaved head, right.
375
00:19:40.000 --> 00:19:42.440
I believe so so this was God?
376
00:19:42.599 --> 00:19:44.000
So this is this is the beginning.
377
00:19:44.160 --> 00:19:46.759
Yeah, man, I didn't even think about that, but it is.
378
00:19:47.200 --> 00:19:51.759
You have a mystical. Mystical was sentenced to six years
379
00:19:51.759 --> 00:19:53.440
in prison for sexual battery.
380
00:19:54.480 --> 00:19:56.680
Yeah, good god, Yeah I remember that.
381
00:19:56.759 --> 00:19:58.720
I don't remember it either, to be honest, I.
382
00:19:58.640 --> 00:20:02.160
Don't really remember Mystical either, except for that one song.
383
00:20:02.119 --> 00:20:04.119
Shake you ass, yeah, watch yourself?
384
00:20:04.279 --> 00:20:07.240
Yeah yeah that was then what about a boy?
385
00:20:07.680 --> 00:20:09.119
What he listened I think it was in Passion of
386
00:20:09.160 --> 00:20:09.559
the Christ?
387
00:20:10.400 --> 00:20:11.039
I don't remember.
388
00:20:11.039 --> 00:20:12.759
And about a boy, I think that's what he listens to.
389
00:20:13.000 --> 00:20:14.559
Yeah, you might be right.
390
00:20:15.160 --> 00:20:17.960
I'm almost positive because I always thought like an English one.
391
00:20:18.480 --> 00:20:22.000
But yeah, I think the thing most people remember in
392
00:20:22.039 --> 00:20:25.119
the Year of Music from two thousand and four is
393
00:20:25.160 --> 00:20:28.240
this is the year that Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake
394
00:20:28.279 --> 00:20:32.000
shocked the world at the Super Bowl. That boomed Kitty Gate.
395
00:20:32.359 --> 00:20:34.720
That boom Citty gate Be coming out.
396
00:20:34.880 --> 00:20:35.079
Yeah.
397
00:20:36.039 --> 00:20:39.920
Outcast, That's when we started having old rock bands. Yeah,
398
00:20:40.000 --> 00:20:41.799
where there's no way nothing could fall.
399
00:20:41.640 --> 00:20:43.839
Out until jay Z got involved.
400
00:20:43.799 --> 00:20:47.839
Until Apple and Jesus, let's try out these decrepit old dudes,
401
00:20:48.839 --> 00:20:50.279
the Rolling Stones.
402
00:20:49.839 --> 00:20:50.640
Except for Prince.
403
00:20:51.319 --> 00:20:53.920
Except for Prince, that's still the best ones. Uh.
404
00:20:54.039 --> 00:20:56.640
Outcast became the first rap group to win Album of
405
00:20:56.680 --> 00:20:57.960
the Year at the Grammys.
406
00:20:59.160 --> 00:21:02.559
That that was. It was a good, good album to
407
00:21:03.279 --> 00:21:03.839
that was.
408
00:21:04.000 --> 00:21:06.680
That was a speaker Box with love below.
409
00:21:07.279 --> 00:21:12.079
Yeah, that was. I remember that being one that people
410
00:21:12.839 --> 00:21:17.079
seemed to pretty unanimously like it was a big album.
411
00:21:16.839 --> 00:21:20.240
And then they just walked away, they said see you. Yeah.
412
00:21:20.960 --> 00:21:21.039
Uh.
413
00:21:21.279 --> 00:21:25.920
Fantasia, not the Disney animated film, but the singer wins
414
00:21:25.920 --> 00:21:28.559
the third season of American Idol and becomes the first
415
00:21:28.799 --> 00:21:32.359
artist to debut at number one on the Heart Hot
416
00:21:32.400 --> 00:21:35.359
one with the first record. I did not know that
417
00:21:35.480 --> 00:21:40.119
for her. Yeah, very good, She's done good. Yes yeah
418
00:21:38.839 --> 00:21:43.039
h Britney Spears is back in the news nine uh
419
00:21:44.000 --> 00:21:48.039
nine months later, on September eighteenth, she marries Kevin Fetterline
420
00:21:52.519 --> 00:21:54.640
and then the last note I have for music in
421
00:21:54.640 --> 00:21:56.279
the year two thousand and four, This is the year
422
00:21:56.279 --> 00:21:59.960
that Ashley Simpson gets caught lip syncing on Saturday Night.
423
00:22:00.720 --> 00:22:05.200
Dude, that was such a that was such a cringe moment.
424
00:22:05.240 --> 00:22:08.400
We weren't saying cringe at the time, but I remember
425
00:22:09.640 --> 00:22:13.680
everybody talking about that the day after and it just
426
00:22:13.759 --> 00:22:17.000
being such a It was before memes were really a thing,
427
00:22:17.079 --> 00:22:19.160
but it was. It was a meme. Maybe that's where
428
00:22:19.200 --> 00:22:20.200
memes starts, that where.
429
00:22:20.039 --> 00:22:22.799
It ended too. I don't think she does anything.
430
00:22:22.440 --> 00:22:26.680
Does she not? She did a reality show yeah after that,
431
00:22:27.279 --> 00:22:29.880
and I'm sure she's put out music since, but she
432
00:22:30.519 --> 00:22:31.039
probably has.
433
00:22:31.200 --> 00:22:34.200
Did that do her in I remember saying.
434
00:22:33.960 --> 00:22:35.720
That a lot of people did or that, you know,
435
00:22:35.759 --> 00:22:41.559
whatever reason it was, And the thing is, yeah, I
436
00:22:41.640 --> 00:22:44.240
just did, yeah, I And what's weird is like I
437
00:22:44.279 --> 00:22:45.920
don't even think that would be that big of a
438
00:22:45.960 --> 00:22:49.119
deal now, No, I mean, like because it's not like
439
00:22:49.119 --> 00:22:52.240
she couldn't sing. It's not like vanilla like people are shot.
440
00:22:52.119 --> 00:22:55.279
But she had an illness or something like they just
441
00:22:55.279 --> 00:22:57.000
popped up like the day of the show and they
442
00:22:57.000 --> 00:23:00.440
had to pivot. Pivot, yeah, pivot.
443
00:23:01.200 --> 00:23:05.799
So I just it's not that it like harmed her
444
00:23:06.640 --> 00:23:10.960
reputation or anything, but like people just that's the thing
445
00:23:11.319 --> 00:23:11.640
known for.
446
00:23:11.839 --> 00:23:14.920
But could she have been the next Streisand we don't know.
447
00:23:18.039 --> 00:23:21.720
It's you know, the clock's not run out yet.
448
00:23:22.920 --> 00:23:27.079
Uh, I get it, she could still be. I see,
449
00:23:28.000 --> 00:23:29.519
I don't think that's where that was going.
450
00:23:29.559 --> 00:23:34.200
But okay, your top selling albums of two thousand and four, Uh,
451
00:23:34.519 --> 00:23:37.640
only one of these I owned, but feels like Home
452
00:23:37.680 --> 00:23:38.640
from Norah Jones.
453
00:23:39.799 --> 00:23:40.640
I remember that one.
454
00:23:40.759 --> 00:23:45.440
Back to Bedlam by James Blunt, Oh my beautiful.
455
00:23:45.480 --> 00:23:46.920
Okay, that's all you have to say.
456
00:23:47.880 --> 00:23:49.680
American Idiot by Green Day.
457
00:23:49.920 --> 00:23:51.759
I remember that I got that one.
458
00:23:51.839 --> 00:23:54.319
And then the one that I did have was Confessions
459
00:23:54.359 --> 00:23:54.920
by Usher.
460
00:23:55.640 --> 00:23:58.319
Yeah, I didn't have that one, but I did have
461
00:23:58.359 --> 00:24:00.359
American Idiot. I remember going to see them.
462
00:24:00.440 --> 00:24:03.799
Played the fuck out of that. Yeah, Like that was
463
00:24:03.839 --> 00:24:07.519
one that I felt like, I don't know, Green Day
464
00:24:07.640 --> 00:24:11.720
was always kind of a little underground, and then American
465
00:24:11.759 --> 00:24:13.000
Idiot came out, and it.
466
00:24:12.920 --> 00:24:15.480
Was just that that did feel after hit after hit.
467
00:24:16.559 --> 00:24:20.759
That was the American Idiot song that that went wild.
468
00:24:21.640 --> 00:24:23.839
Boulevard had Broken Dreams on that.
469
00:24:23.880 --> 00:24:27.240
I'm pretty sure some September, so wake me up.
470
00:24:27.440 --> 00:24:30.559
When September ends, but they didn't release it as a
471
00:24:30.599 --> 00:24:33.799
single until like the following summer like they were still
472
00:24:33.960 --> 00:24:35.720
pulling singles off of that album that.
473
00:24:36.599 --> 00:24:39.079
Was like the graduation song, yeah.
474
00:24:38.799 --> 00:24:43.920
Yeah, yeah, yeah, and then it also had that Hope
475
00:24:44.039 --> 00:24:47.440
You had the Time that was not on.
476
00:24:47.279 --> 00:24:50.759
That album, but I appreciate you trying. Well.
477
00:24:50.799 --> 00:24:53.799
Listen, here's a fun fact. Me and our buddy Brett
478
00:24:53.839 --> 00:24:55.920
went to see that show. And I'll have you know
479
00:24:56.559 --> 00:25:00.599
that at that show, my future wife was there. How
480
00:25:00.599 --> 00:25:05.440
about that her family and so yeah, so.
481
00:25:05.519 --> 00:25:10.519
That, okay, where are the singles? Five singles came from
482
00:25:10.559 --> 00:25:11.440
American Idiot.
483
00:25:11.519 --> 00:25:13.799
Boulevard of Broken Dreams was maybe my favorite.
484
00:25:13.960 --> 00:25:17.559
Yeah, and Holiday was off of that album as well.
485
00:25:17.599 --> 00:25:20.079
I'm trying to figure out what the fifth was.
486
00:25:20.720 --> 00:25:23.240
I think it's that I Hope You had the Time,
487
00:25:23.680 --> 00:25:23.960
can you?
488
00:25:24.279 --> 00:25:27.960
It's called Oh Jesus, Jesus of Suburbia.
489
00:25:28.680 --> 00:25:30.720
Jesus, Oh, I remember that, but I didn't really. Yeah,
490
00:25:30.759 --> 00:25:33.240
your thing of Carrie Underwood that was released.
491
00:25:33.720 --> 00:25:37.799
Jesus of Suburbia was released on November fourteenth, two thousand
492
00:25:37.839 --> 00:25:38.200
and five.
493
00:25:38.319 --> 00:25:40.119
My god, and didn't they make it a it's a
494
00:25:40.240 --> 00:25:42.119
musical now it's a stage.
495
00:25:41.960 --> 00:25:45.319
Yes, yeah, yeah yeah, And there's supposedly a movie version
496
00:25:45.440 --> 00:25:46.119
in the works.
497
00:25:47.119 --> 00:25:49.920
God good for them. Good for you, Billy Joe.
498
00:25:50.200 --> 00:25:54.039
That that was released on September of two thousand and
499
00:25:54.039 --> 00:25:55.920
four and.
500
00:25:56.319 --> 00:25:58.319
Had singles all the way up till November of two
501
00:25:58.319 --> 00:25:59.160
thousand and five.
502
00:25:59.240 --> 00:26:01.480
I mean, I think people sleep on that. I'm glad
503
00:26:01.559 --> 00:26:04.599
you added this album into your notes mcash because I
504
00:26:04.640 --> 00:26:07.000
think it was it was that was a run for them.
505
00:26:07.119 --> 00:26:09.359
Yeah, yeah, I don't think it ever got any higher
506
00:26:09.400 --> 00:26:12.279
than that. Like that to me would be the degree.
507
00:26:12.359 --> 00:26:14.480
I mean, there's a reason why they're still making money
508
00:26:14.480 --> 00:26:16.759
off American Idiot some form officials.
509
00:26:17.359 --> 00:26:22.920
So we'll transition into the year and TV. Unfortunately, The
510
00:26:23.039 --> 00:26:25.480
Apprentice debuted on January seventh.
511
00:26:26.119 --> 00:26:27.279
I thought it was older than that.
512
00:26:27.519 --> 00:26:28.680
Yeah, who's in there?
513
00:26:28.799 --> 00:26:28.839
That?
514
00:26:29.839 --> 00:26:34.839
Nobody of importance? Sex and the City aired its final episode.
515
00:26:34.839 --> 00:26:38.960
As we mentioned earlier, some milestones were hitting in TV
516
00:26:39.039 --> 00:26:43.400
that year. The Price Is Right aired its six thousandth episode,
517
00:26:43.759 --> 00:26:45.839
That's crimn Crazy?
518
00:26:46.160 --> 00:26:46.960
Was Bob still there?
519
00:26:47.079 --> 00:26:50.960
Drew Carroy, No, Bob was still around, and he's still there? Five? Yeah,
520
00:26:51.039 --> 00:26:55.000
of four? Rather and then I believe so? And then
521
00:26:55.319 --> 00:26:58.359
to be outdone? Was Young and the Restless aired its
522
00:26:58.480 --> 00:27:00.440
eight thousandth episode.
523
00:27:01.240 --> 00:27:03.480
Always coming in and stealing Bob's spotlight.
524
00:27:03.720 --> 00:27:08.599
Just the classics, man, the classics, that's true. Nickelodeon turned
525
00:27:08.640 --> 00:27:12.960
thirty five in two thousand and four. Wow, and then
526
00:27:13.119 --> 00:27:16.200
Sesame Street turned thirty five the same year.
527
00:27:16.559 --> 00:27:18.799
Five years, they were both the same age.
528
00:27:19.000 --> 00:27:22.680
No, Nickelodeon's twenty five thirty five?
529
00:27:23.000 --> 00:27:27.119
Sorry, okay, got it. And then we talked about Nickelodeon
530
00:27:27.200 --> 00:27:29.799
ended up. I think they they. I don't think anything
531
00:27:29.880 --> 00:27:30.960
changed in Nickelodeon.
532
00:27:31.119 --> 00:27:32.720
Yeah, no controversy.
533
00:27:34.319 --> 00:27:40.160
Being there. Yeah, yeah, the stars and stars we talked about. Yeah, yeah,
534
00:27:40.440 --> 00:27:46.039
Amanda Bynes is a face makeup artist. You know. We
535
00:27:46.599 --> 00:27:50.559
mentioned friends ending. Uh, it's run after ten years in
536
00:27:50.559 --> 00:27:54.000
two thousand and four. But Fraser also left the air
537
00:27:54.160 --> 00:27:55.079
in two thousand and four.
538
00:27:55.640 --> 00:27:57.799
Oh man, I had have thought Fraser would be long
539
00:27:57.839 --> 00:27:58.720
gone by two thousand.
540
00:27:58.839 --> 00:27:59.640
Well, Fraser's back.
541
00:28:00.599 --> 00:28:02.480
I think it's already gone again.
542
00:28:02.880 --> 00:28:06.279
I think it has gone. I think that is. I
543
00:28:06.319 --> 00:28:07.839
think that is that's correct.
544
00:28:08.519 --> 00:28:11.640
Rugrats aired its final episode in two thousand and four.
545
00:28:13.240 --> 00:28:16.119
Rug Rats I was saying, God, I love it, and
546
00:28:16.160 --> 00:28:17.960
then when they tried to make them grown ups, that
547
00:28:18.039 --> 00:28:18.680
was not good.
548
00:28:18.759 --> 00:28:19.640
I didn't work.
549
00:28:21.119 --> 00:28:27.559
Ken Jennings began his Jeopardy run in June, winning over
550
00:28:27.680 --> 00:28:29.759
two and a half million dollars.
551
00:28:30.200 --> 00:28:32.400
He that was in two thousand and four. Yeah, I
552
00:28:32.480 --> 00:28:34.319
swear I thought that was in like the last like
553
00:28:34.400 --> 00:28:35.160
ten years.
554
00:28:35.480 --> 00:28:38.440
Yeah, you're thinking about the other guy. That was like
555
00:28:38.480 --> 00:28:39.240
a meme for.
556
00:28:39.359 --> 00:28:41.799
I mean I watch it every day. I was just shocked.
557
00:28:44.119 --> 00:28:47.359
Craig Kilbourne left The Late Late Show after five years.
558
00:28:47.720 --> 00:28:49.680
Damn. Rest in peace.
559
00:28:50.000 --> 00:28:51.039
I don't think he's dead.
560
00:28:51.400 --> 00:28:54.480
He was writing Crashers, he was, Yeah, he was.
561
00:28:56.240 --> 00:28:59.839
The show lost debut on ABC. I still never understood
562
00:28:59.880 --> 00:29:00.240
that show.
563
00:29:00.720 --> 00:29:03.759
I never watched watched it, never watched TVs for losers.
564
00:29:04.039 --> 00:29:08.480
Yeah, film dude, the rope must that's right.
565
00:29:09.759 --> 00:29:13.880
Uh. It was a sad year for journalism because Tom
566
00:29:13.920 --> 00:29:16.960
Brokaw and Dan Rather both retired in two thousand and four.
567
00:29:17.480 --> 00:29:19.519
Man, damn, two big heavy hitters.
568
00:29:20.000 --> 00:29:22.799
Dan Rather still doing stuff though I keep seeing it.
569
00:29:22.880 --> 00:29:25.480
I mean on not on like the big networks.
570
00:29:25.519 --> 00:29:29.079
But he's like, I got it in, I gotta get
571
00:29:29.119 --> 00:29:29.599
it out. Well.
572
00:29:29.640 --> 00:29:32.359
I think something happened that made him come back out
573
00:29:32.440 --> 00:29:34.640
to start trying to speak some truth.
574
00:29:34.839 --> 00:29:35.720
Is that right? Yeah?
575
00:29:35.960 --> 00:29:37.480
Yeah, I'm not sure what it was.
576
00:29:38.400 --> 00:29:40.839
I think I feel like things have been pretty good
577
00:29:40.920 --> 00:29:42.440
as far as the truth being told.
578
00:29:42.559 --> 00:29:47.079
Things aren't expensive, you know. You know, as.
579
00:29:46.880 --> 00:29:50.000
We transition, have you seen that latest job report.
580
00:29:51.839 --> 00:29:54.680
Somebody did such a good job they got promoted to customer.
581
00:29:55.400 --> 00:29:58.160
Yeah, it's brilliant, that's true.
582
00:29:58.920 --> 00:30:01.920
As we transition into of the year of sports from
583
00:30:01.920 --> 00:30:05.319
two thousand and four, TNA Impact debuted on Fox Sports
584
00:30:05.359 --> 00:30:06.559
Net in two thousand and four.
585
00:30:07.839 --> 00:30:11.480
Were they still running out of the Municipal Auditorium then,
586
00:30:11.559 --> 00:30:15.200
or was this when they got the Sena Fairgrounds the fairgrounds? Yeah,
587
00:30:15.240 --> 00:30:18.039
well they they did the first run for a little
588
00:30:18.079 --> 00:30:20.400
bit at the Municipal Auditorium and then they went over
589
00:30:20.440 --> 00:30:21.319
to the Fairgrounds.
590
00:30:21.440 --> 00:30:24.039
I think this is they've moved to Orlando at this point.
591
00:30:24.039 --> 00:30:26.119
I could be I could I.
592
00:30:26.079 --> 00:30:29.440
Have a feeling they got that studio before DV wanted
593
00:30:29.480 --> 00:30:30.160
to show them.
594
00:30:30.759 --> 00:30:33.000
TV didn't want to show the National Fairgrounds.
595
00:30:33.079 --> 00:30:35.079
It could be wrong. I have no idea, to be honest,
596
00:30:36.480 --> 00:30:40.400
I'm not the wrestling officionado. I sometimes pretend to be,
597
00:30:41.119 --> 00:30:43.720
but U in the world of sports. The New England
598
00:30:43.799 --> 00:30:46.480
Patriots beat the Carolina Panthers in the Super Bowl thirty
599
00:30:46.480 --> 00:30:47.359
two to twenty nine.
600
00:30:47.839 --> 00:30:48.640
Good super Bowl.
601
00:30:48.720 --> 00:30:52.440
This was good Super Bowl. LSU wins the BCS National
602
00:30:52.559 --> 00:30:56.559
Championship after beating the Oklahoma Sooners in the Sugar Bowl.
603
00:30:57.279 --> 00:30:59.839
Nick Saban's title, if I'm not mistaken.
604
00:30:59.599 --> 00:31:04.240
Correct Mundo And then USC though was named AP National
605
00:31:04.319 --> 00:31:06.759
champion after beating Michigan in the Rose Ball.
606
00:31:07.480 --> 00:31:10.000
Yeah, it was really really weird. That was back when
607
00:31:10.160 --> 00:31:12.920
you know, two teams were voted on to play the
608
00:31:13.039 --> 00:31:16.519
National Championship. They used the BCS formula to kind of
609
00:31:16.559 --> 00:31:20.359
corroborate their opinions and then they would get together and
610
00:31:20.440 --> 00:31:23.480
vote at the end, and you didn't have to vote
611
00:31:23.519 --> 00:31:27.920
the winner of that BCS game. So it was a
612
00:31:28.079 --> 00:31:30.759
very weird setup. And USC had a really good team.
613
00:31:30.880 --> 00:31:32.960
So yeah.
614
00:31:33.000 --> 00:31:36.680
And then in the NFL, Jerry Rice's record of two
615
00:31:36.759 --> 00:31:39.279
hundred and seventy four straight games with the catch comes
616
00:31:39.319 --> 00:31:41.759
to an end when the Raiders beat the Buffalo Bills
617
00:31:41.799 --> 00:31:45.920
thirteen to ten. About that oo fun, little fun little
618
00:31:45.920 --> 00:31:47.160
fact there for it that is.
619
00:31:47.279 --> 00:31:47.519
Yeah.
620
00:31:47.559 --> 00:31:50.160
I don't think we've ever talked about the College World
621
00:31:50.240 --> 00:31:53.279
Series on any of these episodes, but Cal State Folton
622
00:31:54.160 --> 00:31:55.880
beat Texas.
623
00:31:56.720 --> 00:31:59.519
I couldn't even tell you what their mascot is.
624
00:32:00.279 --> 00:32:02.079
They I have no idea.
625
00:32:02.519 --> 00:32:04.720
I was hoping there would just be total silence as
626
00:32:04.720 --> 00:32:05.319
he said that.
627
00:32:07.119 --> 00:32:07.920
We just move on.
628
00:32:08.200 --> 00:32:11.680
Well, speaking of moving on, the Montreal Expos did just
629
00:32:11.759 --> 00:32:13.839
that as they moved to Washington, d C. For the
630
00:32:13.839 --> 00:32:15.440
two thousand and five season.
631
00:32:16.519 --> 00:32:17.599
Are those the Nationals?
632
00:32:17.880 --> 00:32:19.119
Those are the Nationals.
633
00:32:19.519 --> 00:32:23.359
You're not going to believe this. Cal State Fullerton Are
634
00:32:23.400 --> 00:32:24.039
the Titans?
635
00:32:24.920 --> 00:32:26.200
Oh they are? Yeah?
636
00:32:26.839 --> 00:32:27.440
How about that?
637
00:32:27.519 --> 00:32:27.680
What?
638
00:32:27.920 --> 00:32:30.799
Oh man? Yep, what a reveal.
639
00:32:32.440 --> 00:32:36.799
Just this was a huge year for baseball. This is
640
00:32:36.839 --> 00:32:40.039
the year that the Boston Red Sox come back from
641
00:32:40.400 --> 00:32:44.359
three defeat the the New York Yankees and the A
642
00:32:44.559 --> 00:32:47.759
L d or a LCS and then went on to
643
00:32:47.880 --> 00:32:50.960
sweep the Saint Louis Cardinals to win the World Series
644
00:32:51.000 --> 00:32:51.319
that year.
645
00:32:51.880 --> 00:32:52.599
How about that?
646
00:32:52.599 --> 00:32:55.039
That's when the curse was broken first, and the curse
647
00:32:55.759 --> 00:32:58.759
they Matt Damon and Ben Affleck got married to each other.
648
00:32:59.240 --> 00:33:00.559
I remember that on the field.
649
00:33:01.799 --> 00:33:04.440
And then, funny enough, Johnny Damon is the one who
650
00:33:04.480 --> 00:33:05.000
married them.
651
00:33:05.079 --> 00:33:09.359
Yeah, that's true. Do you remember what film was filmed
652
00:33:09.680 --> 00:33:11.119
during the World Series that year?
653
00:33:11.559 --> 00:33:12.359
Fever Pitch?
654
00:33:12.480 --> 00:33:15.559
There you go, you know, Fever Pitch is a remake
655
00:33:15.920 --> 00:33:21.759
of a foreign film. No, yeah, yeah, it's not a
656
00:33:21.759 --> 00:33:24.559
baseball film. It's a football film or a soccer film.
657
00:33:25.880 --> 00:33:28.640
And they changed it to Baseball when they remade it.
658
00:33:29.319 --> 00:33:29.839
How about that?
659
00:33:29.920 --> 00:33:30.079
Wow?
660
00:33:30.839 --> 00:33:34.680
And and and Jimmy Fallon's film career has just it's
661
00:33:34.680 --> 00:33:36.559
been unstoppable since ever.
662
00:33:36.400 --> 00:33:38.799
Since Taxi came out. Man, he's been on top.
663
00:33:38.640 --> 00:33:40.799
Of things, not about Taxi.
664
00:33:42.000 --> 00:33:44.359
I think he's forgotten about tax I know Queen Latifa
665
00:33:44.359 --> 00:33:48.200
has forgotten about tax Yeah. Yeah, sadly I owned that
666
00:33:48.279 --> 00:33:52.799
DVD at one point. Yes, the Detroit Pistons beat the
667
00:33:52.839 --> 00:33:56.039
Lakers four to one to win the NBA championship that year.
668
00:33:56.880 --> 00:33:59.759
And what I didn't remember, but it does make sense.
669
00:33:59.839 --> 00:34:04.039
The Yukon Huskies won both the men's and women's national
670
00:34:04.160 --> 00:34:05.720
championships in basketball that year.
671
00:34:05.799 --> 00:34:07.119
I think they've won every year.
672
00:34:07.319 --> 00:34:10.000
I'm pretty sure. I just did a campus tour of
673
00:34:10.079 --> 00:34:12.320
Yukon and I'm pretty sure they bring it up. They're
674
00:34:12.360 --> 00:34:16.639
the only program in the nation that has had the
675
00:34:16.679 --> 00:34:21.159
men's team and the women's team win the national championship
676
00:34:21.239 --> 00:34:25.880
in the same season multiple times. Wow, that's not the
677
00:34:25.920 --> 00:34:27.079
only time that's happened.
678
00:34:27.400 --> 00:34:27.840
I believe it.
679
00:34:27.920 --> 00:34:30.639
Well, I guess their shit doesn't stink up there, it doesn't.
680
00:34:30.400 --> 00:34:32.880
It don't it don't. It's a beautiful campus.
681
00:34:32.519 --> 00:34:35.760
I bet. And then in this in the NHL. The
682
00:34:36.280 --> 00:34:39.920
Tampa Bay Uh, oh my god, you got their lightning
683
00:34:40.000 --> 00:34:43.079
lightly thank you beat the Calgary Flames four to three
684
00:34:43.320 --> 00:34:47.400
to win the Stanley Cup final seven games. Yep, it's
685
00:34:47.400 --> 00:34:51.119
a good series. Uh. The Summer Olympics was held in Athens,
686
00:34:51.119 --> 00:34:53.760
Greece that year in two thousand and four, and the
687
00:34:53.880 --> 00:34:57.760
US wins the most gold medals in total overall medals
688
00:34:57.800 --> 00:35:03.440
in those games as well. Champions and the World of
689
00:35:03.480 --> 00:35:07.599
Professional Wrestling and the main event a WrestleMania twenty Chris
690
00:35:07.679 --> 00:35:10.480
Benoit defeated Triple H and HBK.
691
00:35:11.760 --> 00:35:17.239
That was a good WrestleMania and for for how things ended,
692
00:35:18.760 --> 00:35:23.960
marring that marring that main event, for what it was,
693
00:35:24.000 --> 00:35:26.760
it was a really good triple threat main event for WrestleMania.
694
00:35:26.960 --> 00:35:30.360
Eddie Guerrero and Kurt Angle. Yeah, ww title on that
695
00:35:30.480 --> 00:35:36.199
show was fantastic. That was the infamous Goldberg brock Lesnar match. Yeah.
696
00:35:36.239 --> 00:35:39.639
You had Evolution taking on the Rock and Sock Connection.
697
00:35:39.920 --> 00:35:42.480
Isn't it crazy? And the and and listen, listen everyone,
698
00:35:42.719 --> 00:35:44.639
you're I don't think anyone's gonna believe this, but this
699
00:35:44.800 --> 00:35:48.639
was all just held in one night, Yes, one whole night.
700
00:35:49.320 --> 00:35:52.840
That was when you had Chris Jericho and Christian and
701
00:35:52.920 --> 00:35:56.880
Tris Stratus turned John Cena and The Big Show. This
702
00:35:56.960 --> 00:35:59.440
is when the Undertaker came back as the dead Man
703
00:36:00.199 --> 00:36:03.400
in the American Bad That's really big, really big show.
704
00:36:03.440 --> 00:36:05.960
Madison Square guard have seen his first title, wouldn't it?
705
00:36:05.960 --> 00:36:06.280
It was?
706
00:36:06.519 --> 00:36:10.599
Yeah, who won the British Opening Golf?
707
00:36:11.880 --> 00:36:14.719
I didn't come up with any golf or cricket anything
708
00:36:14.800 --> 00:36:20.199
like that. Yeah. So let's transition into the year in movies.
709
00:36:20.239 --> 00:36:23.559
It was a movie. Do we want to start with
710
00:36:23.599 --> 00:36:28.480
an Oscar recap or talk razzies? First we got with
711
00:36:29.280 --> 00:36:32.519
the worst Okay, I'm going to give you the worst actress.
712
00:36:32.559 --> 00:36:34.519
I'll give you the big the big awards here. Worst
713
00:36:34.559 --> 00:36:38.199
actress was Britney Spears and Fahrenheit nine to eleven.
714
00:36:39.199 --> 00:36:45.679
Excuse me.
715
00:36:45.800 --> 00:36:47.280
That I've only seen it.
716
00:36:47.480 --> 00:36:49.519
Oh my god.
717
00:36:49.840 --> 00:36:53.679
Your worst supporting actor. I'm sorry she was worst supporting
718
00:36:53.760 --> 00:36:59.000
actress for Fahrenheit nine to eleven. Worst supporting actor was
719
00:36:59.039 --> 00:37:01.679
Donald Rumsfield and Fahrenheit nine to eleven.
720
00:37:02.119 --> 00:37:04.719
Thank you. That makes more sense. At least I remember
721
00:37:04.840 --> 00:37:05.719
him being a part of it.
722
00:37:05.840 --> 00:37:09.679
Yeah. Your worst actor George W. Bush for Fahrenheit nine
723
00:37:09.719 --> 00:37:10.119
to eleven.
724
00:37:10.440 --> 00:37:12.880
I see, I see a trend here, I see.
725
00:37:12.639 --> 00:37:16.639
What your worst actress. No, it was not Condoleeza Rice.
726
00:37:17.199 --> 00:37:22.679
It was Ally Berry Catwoman. Yep, damn. Your Worst Picture
727
00:37:23.360 --> 00:37:31.760
nominees are Alexander Oh, that was Ship Yeah, super Babies, Baby,
728
00:37:32.000 --> 00:37:37.760
superb too, Baby Geniuses. I think that's a movie. Cat
729
00:37:37.880 --> 00:37:41.960
Woman Surviving Christmas and White Chicks.
730
00:37:42.199 --> 00:37:46.719
Surviving Christmas is with those others. I mean, it's not
731
00:37:46.800 --> 00:37:47.599
a great movie.
732
00:37:47.599 --> 00:37:50.519
But come on, what is What is the winner for
733
00:37:50.679 --> 00:37:53.000
the Razzie that year and best Worst Picture.
734
00:37:53.559 --> 00:37:55.119
I'm gonna I'm gonna say White Chicks.
735
00:37:55.159 --> 00:37:59.039
I'm gonna say, Alexander, You're both wrong. It was Catwoman,
736
00:38:00.039 --> 00:38:02.840
almost said cat Woman. Since Halle Berry beat out everyone
737
00:38:02.880 --> 00:38:04.679
in Fahrenheit nine to eleven.
738
00:38:05.639 --> 00:38:10.559
She broke the streak. God yeah, yeah, she's the brock
739
00:38:10.679 --> 00:38:16.519
Lesnar of Razzie actresses. She broke the streak. But when
740
00:38:16.559 --> 00:38:21.239
it comes to like good cinema, your Oscar recap for
741
00:38:21.280 --> 00:38:23.760
that year is Best Picture winner Million Dollar Baby. We
742
00:38:23.800 --> 00:38:27.320
all know that. We reviewed that film here, Best Actor
743
00:38:27.440 --> 00:38:30.679
Jamie Fox Foray again, we reviewed that film as well,
744
00:38:30.920 --> 00:38:32.840
and then we go back to a Million Dollar Baby
745
00:38:32.880 --> 00:38:36.760
with Best Actress Hilary Swank, Best Director Clint Eastwood and
746
00:38:36.880 --> 00:38:41.360
Best Supporting Actor Morgan Freeman. But your best supporting Actress,
747
00:38:41.760 --> 00:38:45.320
Kat Blanchett proved to be the halle Berry of the
748
00:38:45.360 --> 00:38:49.119
Oscars that year by winning for Aviator, beating out whoever
749
00:38:49.159 --> 00:38:51.199
the best Supporting Actress would have been for a million
750
00:38:51.239 --> 00:38:51.840
Dollar Baby.
751
00:38:52.360 --> 00:38:58.000
The Aviator the one episode that we look back on
752
00:38:58.079 --> 00:39:00.079
and think, if we had one more, that's what we
753
00:39:00.079 --> 00:39:00.840
would have done.
754
00:39:01.159 --> 00:39:01.880
The Aviator.
755
00:39:02.000 --> 00:39:05.440
Yeah, maybe I'd have to see what the other films were.
756
00:39:05.480 --> 00:39:08.000
I feel like that was the one that kept coming
757
00:39:08.079 --> 00:39:10.559
up in discussions, but I never I never saw maybe
758
00:39:10.559 --> 00:39:12.599
the Notebook. Maybe the Notebook.
759
00:39:12.679 --> 00:39:15.199
Yeah, Notebook was a baker Man would have been another
760
00:39:15.239 --> 00:39:16.199
comedy we could have done.
761
00:39:16.239 --> 00:39:19.599
Yeah, I think Aviator was one. I mean, I guess
762
00:39:19.639 --> 00:39:25.360
considering the the cast and Scorsese and DiCaprio makes sense.
763
00:39:25.480 --> 00:39:30.519
But we've got time, Yeah, not for but for other
764
00:39:30.559 --> 00:39:31.719
Scorsese DiCaprio.
765
00:39:32.000 --> 00:39:36.519
Yeah. Then your best animated film at the Oscars was
766
00:39:36.519 --> 00:39:38.360
The Incredibles.
767
00:39:38.119 --> 00:39:39.920
Which we did do an episode which that one we
768
00:39:39.960 --> 00:39:40.239
did do.
769
00:39:40.519 --> 00:39:44.800
Yeah, And then as we as we mostly along, we'll
770
00:39:44.800 --> 00:39:49.039
get to the films that we didn't just discuss the
771
00:39:49.119 --> 00:39:50.800
review that we can get into. But I want to
772
00:39:50.800 --> 00:39:53.840
talk about some of the bursts and deaths of two
773
00:39:53.920 --> 00:39:57.840
thousand and four. Some of your notable celebrities that were
774
00:39:57.880 --> 00:40:00.679
born in two thousand and four that are now turning
775
00:40:00.719 --> 00:40:05.199
twenty one or we'll turn twenty one soon is Millie
776
00:40:05.199 --> 00:40:07.400
Bobby Brown from Stranger Things.
777
00:40:07.480 --> 00:40:08.119
Oh my God.
778
00:40:08.239 --> 00:40:15.079
Yeah. Jenna Davis, who played the physical version of Megan
779
00:40:15.280 --> 00:40:17.920
in the horror film Megan, not the two point zero
780
00:40:18.039 --> 00:40:21.159
versions because she wasn't invited back, but in the first one,
781
00:40:21.320 --> 00:40:24.679
the one with the crazy dance moves and shit nice,
782
00:40:26.559 --> 00:40:31.519
the probably the most popular pop singer around today, Jesse
783
00:40:31.679 --> 00:40:34.320
Murph was born in two thousand and four. I'm sure
784
00:40:34.320 --> 00:40:36.159
both of you don't know who that is, but you know,
785
00:40:36.280 --> 00:40:40.119
you know, that's why I'm here. She's a hot ticket
786
00:40:40.280 --> 00:40:44.199
right now. And then Noah Snap or Schnop from Stranger
787
00:40:44.280 --> 00:40:47.639
Things also was born in two thousand and four. And
788
00:40:47.679 --> 00:40:51.880
then in the world of sports, Bronnie James was born
789
00:40:51.880 --> 00:40:52.719
in two thousand and four.
790
00:40:53.199 --> 00:40:56.719
That's crazy, that's crazy, because two thousand and four was
791
00:40:56.760 --> 00:40:59.760
when like lebron fever was just getting going.
792
00:41:00.079 --> 00:41:05.440
Yeah, and then you have our celebrities who turned twenty
793
00:41:05.519 --> 00:41:08.400
one in two thousand and four, meaning they were born
794
00:41:08.440 --> 00:41:14.159
in eighty three, and that list includes Chris Hensworth, Andrew Garfield,
795
00:41:15.239 --> 00:41:22.880
Amy Winehouse Rip, Henry Cavell aka Jesus Cavill. Cavill is
796
00:41:22.880 --> 00:41:27.159
that how it was pronounced? Okay, Cavil, I got it
797
00:41:27.239 --> 00:41:32.639
right the first time. Carrie Underwood, Donald Glover aka Childish
798
00:41:32.719 --> 00:41:38.519
Gambino both twenty one. Milia Kunis from that seventies.
799
00:41:38.079 --> 00:41:41.320
Show Ashton Kutcher's wife.
800
00:41:41.440 --> 00:41:45.400
Yes ww Hall of Famers The Bellas, turned twenty one.
801
00:41:47.800 --> 00:41:50.880
One of my favorite actresses, Emily Blunt, turned twenty one
802
00:41:50.920 --> 00:41:54.079
that year. I love her back in the world of music.
803
00:41:54.880 --> 00:41:59.239
Miranda Lambert and Maclamore both turned twenty one in two thousand.
804
00:41:58.960 --> 00:42:04.119
And I have a quick question, Yes, why is Henry
805
00:42:04.159 --> 00:42:05.000
Cavill Jesus?
806
00:42:06.239 --> 00:42:06.559
Was he not?
807
00:42:06.760 --> 00:42:10.880
Who played? Oh? That was Jim Covisel mich I honestly,
808
00:42:10.920 --> 00:42:13.039
God thought you're talking about him playing Superman.
809
00:42:13.760 --> 00:42:16.480
I was, I was gonna keep going. I caught that
810
00:42:16.559 --> 00:42:18.960
and started to say something, but we kept going, and
811
00:42:18.960 --> 00:42:20.159
I was like, I'm not going to derail this.
812
00:42:20.280 --> 00:42:23.159
Let's you brought that up because Jim Covizil.
813
00:42:23.199 --> 00:42:26.199
Yeah, yeah, was Jim Covizel twenty one in two thousand
814
00:42:26.239 --> 00:42:26.480
and four.
815
00:42:26.519 --> 00:42:28.440
I mean he's Jesus, so he could have been in
816
00:42:28.480 --> 00:42:29.360
the age he wanted to be.
817
00:42:29.559 --> 00:42:31.719
No, that's true. Good point, he was two.
818
00:42:31.519 --> 00:42:34.400
Thousand and four, four years old.
819
00:42:34.320 --> 00:42:38.119
It's true. Two thousand and four A d I forget.
820
00:42:38.440 --> 00:42:42.920
Yeah. And then lastly, Adam Driver and Jonah Hill both
821
00:42:42.960 --> 00:42:45.480
turned twenty one at two thousand and four.
822
00:42:45.639 --> 00:42:47.880
I did not realize Adam Driver was that old.
823
00:42:48.800 --> 00:42:50.199
I don't know if I did either.
824
00:42:50.960 --> 00:42:52.960
I don't know. I wouldn't have thought he's twenty one.
825
00:42:53.000 --> 00:42:54.920
Now, that's right, that is right.
826
00:42:56.199 --> 00:42:59.440
Uh. Sadly, we lost some big names in the year
827
00:42:59.480 --> 00:43:03.320
two thousand four, and it starts with a lot of
828
00:43:03.360 --> 00:43:08.760
people's favorite president, not mine, but the original governor, Ronald
829
00:43:08.840 --> 00:43:14.440
Reagan died in two thousand and four. We lost another
830
00:43:14.519 --> 00:43:18.960
Superman in two thousand and four, Christopher Reeves passed away.
831
00:43:21.440 --> 00:43:26.039
Marlon Brando memories, Yeah, Marlon Brando died in two thousand
832
00:43:26.079 --> 00:43:30.239
and four, and then we talked about the movie Ray
833
00:43:30.559 --> 00:43:33.000
and Ray Charles was lost in two thousand and four.
834
00:43:33.960 --> 00:43:36.840
But wait a minute, where do you go?
835
00:43:36.840 --> 00:43:37.079
God?
836
00:43:37.599 --> 00:43:39.800
He on the road is what he did?
837
00:43:40.239 --> 00:43:40.400
He?
838
00:43:42.719 --> 00:43:45.360
God, his Pepsi commercials were something, weren't they?
839
00:43:46.599 --> 00:43:52.239
His? Uh? His uh, what was it the national anthem
840
00:43:52.320 --> 00:43:56.280
or whatever it is he saying in WrestleMania that year. Yeah. Yeah,
841
00:43:56.320 --> 00:43:59.519
we also lost the funk Master himself, Rick James in
842
00:43:59.519 --> 00:44:03.840
two thousand four. Juliet Child was lost in two thousand
843
00:44:03.840 --> 00:44:07.920
and four, as was Psycho and Jamie Lee Curtis's mom
844
00:44:08.119 --> 00:44:09.800
Janet Lee.
845
00:44:10.280 --> 00:44:10.599
Damn.
846
00:44:11.159 --> 00:44:13.719
Yeah, that's a lot of that's a lot of a
847
00:44:13.719 --> 00:44:15.039
lot of big famous people.
848
00:44:15.119 --> 00:44:16.880
Yeah, here's a name that doesn't course.
849
00:44:16.960 --> 00:44:19.159
Actually, famous people don't die. I'm shocked to hear though,
850
00:44:19.239 --> 00:44:19.679
they don't.
851
00:44:19.960 --> 00:44:22.920
They usually last forever. But a name we lost that
852
00:44:22.960 --> 00:44:25.840
doesn't quite match the magnitude of some of these names,
853
00:44:25.840 --> 00:44:30.440
maybe to some people listening. Old Dirty Bastard was lost
854
00:44:30.440 --> 00:44:33.039
in that Yeah.
855
00:44:33.079 --> 00:44:34.239
Did you think he was still alive?
856
00:44:34.559 --> 00:44:37.119
Well, no, I just forgot about him. Yeah.
857
00:44:37.239 --> 00:44:39.719
In general, I mean when I think of two thousand
858
00:44:39.719 --> 00:44:41.920
and four, I think of Old Dirty Bastard and Julia Child,
859
00:44:42.639 --> 00:44:44.519
two people instantly.
860
00:44:44.039 --> 00:44:44.559
Come to mind.
861
00:44:44.840 --> 00:44:48.639
We lost another comedy legend in Rodney Dangerfield in two
862
00:44:48.679 --> 00:44:49.320
thousand and four.
863
00:44:49.800 --> 00:44:50.920
Two thousand and four sucks.
864
00:44:51.119 --> 00:44:53.719
Yeah, well, this one's really gonna get some of you
865
00:44:53.760 --> 00:44:56.760
in the field. In the fields, the Big boss Man
866
00:44:58.039 --> 00:45:00.960
went to the State PENITENTI in heaven.
867
00:45:02.360 --> 00:45:03.199
My God.
868
00:45:04.079 --> 00:45:08.519
That's uh, you shouldn't save that one for the last.
869
00:45:08.840 --> 00:45:10.440
Sorry, I'm gonna need a few.
870
00:45:10.559 --> 00:45:12.559
I'm going to hitch in the gut again because we
871
00:45:12.719 --> 00:45:16.519
lost Pat Tillman and Reggie White from the NFL in
872
00:45:16.559 --> 00:45:22.480
two thousand and four, geezus. And then there's a couple others.
873
00:45:22.480 --> 00:45:24.960
I'll skip them because it doesn't have the same feels
874
00:45:25.000 --> 00:45:27.679
as his last one will. But in two thousand and four,
875
00:45:27.880 --> 00:45:30.000
the first one of the first parts of my childhood
876
00:45:30.000 --> 00:45:32.559
passed away, and that was Captain Kangaroo.
877
00:45:33.679 --> 00:45:35.400
Not Captain King, not him too.
878
00:45:35.800 --> 00:45:39.760
Yeah, no, say it ain't so.
879
00:45:41.599 --> 00:45:42.199
I like that.
880
00:45:42.239 --> 00:45:45.960
We've also skipped over these two other dead people you
881
00:45:46.000 --> 00:45:46.559
don't want.
882
00:45:46.440 --> 00:45:51.280
To real quick. We lost Tony Randall, Fay Ray, and
883
00:45:51.440 --> 00:45:53.360
Jack Parr in two thousand and four.
884
00:45:53.440 --> 00:45:58.239
Okay, I think we could have mentioned them before Captain Kangaroo. God,
885
00:45:59.519 --> 00:46:01.159
that was your personal preference.
886
00:46:03.639 --> 00:46:06.119
That's all I have to cover two thousand and four,
887
00:46:06.239 --> 00:46:08.320
But I think it would be missed if we did
888
00:46:08.320 --> 00:46:11.119
not talk about and discuss some of the films from
889
00:46:11.119 --> 00:46:14.840
that year that we did not talk or review this season.
890
00:46:14.960 --> 00:46:17.440
So anybody want to start with someone that you.
891
00:46:17.480 --> 00:46:20.119
Guys do you guys want to actually talk about the
892
00:46:20.119 --> 00:46:22.599
passion of the Christ since we brought it up all
893
00:46:22.679 --> 00:46:23.400
year long.
894
00:46:23.400 --> 00:46:27.920
I'm seeing you when I saw well, I did. I've
895
00:46:27.960 --> 00:46:31.800
seen it. I watch it every year and some people
896
00:46:31.880 --> 00:46:34.440
might think, you know what, that's what people think, but no,
897
00:46:34.519 --> 00:46:37.280
it's Christmas, Christmas, and yeah it's just birthday.
898
00:46:37.119 --> 00:46:39.559
And birthday in June. But okay.
899
00:46:41.000 --> 00:46:45.760
But I remember going to watch it and thought how
900
00:46:45.800 --> 00:46:49.079
weird it was that people were coming in with popcorn
901
00:46:49.880 --> 00:46:53.480
and coats, and I thought, I just don't think this
902
00:46:53.559 --> 00:46:56.719
is one where you're just gonna be kind of like
903
00:46:57.440 --> 00:47:00.000
sad and then you're laughing and then you come back
904
00:47:00.039 --> 00:47:03.840
a like. I just thought it was so weird to
905
00:47:03.880 --> 00:47:10.280
see that. But I remember it being real. In case
906
00:47:10.320 --> 00:47:12.679
you guys don't know about what it's about, it's about
907
00:47:12.760 --> 00:47:16.559
Jesus and how he gets up on the cross and
908
00:47:17.039 --> 00:47:21.440
is making a sequel by the way, and but it
909
00:47:21.519 --> 00:47:24.519
was just so intense like it is. I mean, listen,
910
00:47:24.559 --> 00:47:28.320
it's great filmmaking for those that want to maybe try
911
00:47:28.360 --> 00:47:31.000
to experience what it was like it was. I mean,
912
00:47:31.079 --> 00:47:34.719
it's there and it was the highest grossing RATEDAR movie
913
00:47:35.480 --> 00:47:39.519
I think until Deadpool or Joker. One of them. I
914
00:47:39.519 --> 00:47:43.159
mean that's a long time so I mean as far
915
00:47:43.199 --> 00:47:48.639
as like great filmmaking, Jim Jim cavisl Mel Gibson, that's
916
00:47:48.679 --> 00:47:52.239
another guy that everyone still adores through all these years.
917
00:47:52.360 --> 00:47:53.199
Yeah, and.
918
00:47:54.599 --> 00:47:57.800
I but that's my main memory is people coming in
919
00:47:57.880 --> 00:48:00.599
with popcorn and drinks and candy, and I just thought,
920
00:48:00.679 --> 00:48:04.639
this is really yeah, this is strange. This is strange.
921
00:48:05.119 --> 00:48:07.719
Just so just so you know, Stony's wife would be
922
00:48:07.760 --> 00:48:08.400
one of those people.
923
00:48:09.400 --> 00:48:14.119
Stories of people like like having like heart attacks or
924
00:48:14.320 --> 00:48:17.920
medical emergencies while watching the film because how intense it
925
00:48:18.000 --> 00:48:18.480
was for them.
926
00:48:18.800 --> 00:48:20.880
And I think that was Blair Witch project. You're thinking
927
00:48:20.880 --> 00:48:23.159
of something else. I don't know.
928
00:48:23.199 --> 00:48:26.719
I don't remember. Think I remember there being some discussion
929
00:48:26.840 --> 00:48:31.400
of like, hey, pay attention, this is rated R and
930
00:48:31.400 --> 00:48:33.480
and there was a little bit of backlash like well
931
00:48:33.480 --> 00:48:35.320
I didn't know it was going to go that hard.
932
00:48:35.360 --> 00:48:38.039
I haven't seen it. I just I remember what mcash.
933
00:48:37.760 --> 00:48:38.320
Is talking about.
934
00:48:38.400 --> 00:48:41.639
There were people. There were people that were critical because
935
00:48:42.440 --> 00:48:47.000
they like weren't really expecting it. Yeah, people that kind
936
00:48:47.000 --> 00:48:50.920
of went to the theater thinking this is a Christian film,
937
00:48:50.960 --> 00:48:51.800
this is for family.
938
00:48:51.920 --> 00:48:53.639
Well, I mean and people, but you know what I
939
00:48:53.639 --> 00:48:56.360
mean I remember, like churches, people would like rent out
940
00:48:56.360 --> 00:48:58.719
the theaters and everything like it was a bit you know,
941
00:48:58.880 --> 00:49:00.920
and I think, I mean, I'm sure sure kids saw
942
00:49:00.920 --> 00:49:04.760
it because you know, in church it's like, hey, look, listen,
943
00:49:04.840 --> 00:49:06.639
this is what happened. I mean, listen. If I was
944
00:49:06.679 --> 00:49:11.400
a young kid watching that, I'd be traumatized. Probably.
945
00:49:11.519 --> 00:49:11.719
Yeah.
946
00:49:12.760 --> 00:49:15.159
But but it's rough. I mean that I would say,
947
00:49:15.159 --> 00:49:17.119
at least it's only two hours, believe it or not.
948
00:49:17.199 --> 00:49:20.519
Maybe a little past two hours. But there's a good
949
00:49:20.599 --> 00:49:25.320
portion of just some just beatings, like and that was
950
00:49:25.440 --> 00:49:29.760
that's tough to that's tough to watch. And then and
951
00:49:30.360 --> 00:49:33.440
our family bought the DVD. And then as I got older,
952
00:49:33.480 --> 00:49:36.599
I thought, why would we? Why would we?
953
00:49:36.719 --> 00:49:36.920
Yeah?
954
00:49:37.920 --> 00:49:40.320
Yeah, like you know, people are like, what's that you
955
00:49:40.320 --> 00:49:43.199
don't know? Well, come here, I'll tell you the story. Actually,
956
00:49:43.239 --> 00:49:47.519
i'll have Mel Gibson tell it to you. I don't
957
00:49:47.599 --> 00:49:49.480
really view it the same way as I used to,
958
00:49:49.679 --> 00:49:53.840
but I will say it is I think it is
959
00:49:54.000 --> 00:50:00.960
great filmmaking. Obviously, it kind of depends on what whatever
960
00:50:01.000 --> 00:50:03.800
believes you bring into it. But I just thought, huh
961
00:50:04.480 --> 00:50:07.400
so people went to the concessions. Cool.
962
00:50:08.480 --> 00:50:11.480
I will say some of my other favorite movies from
963
00:50:11.480 --> 00:50:12.559
the year that we didn't talk.
964
00:50:12.599 --> 00:50:13.599
Was Passion one of them.
965
00:50:14.039 --> 00:50:19.760
No, okay, sorry, Sideways is one of Sideways. Sideways says
966
00:50:19.920 --> 00:50:22.719
maybe one of my five favorite films in general.
967
00:50:22.760 --> 00:50:26.639
Paul Giamatti is in Alexander Paine's two Best Films.
968
00:50:26.719 --> 00:50:29.599
Yeah, and I was a big fan of Envy. We
969
00:50:29.679 --> 00:50:30.519
didn't talk about.
970
00:50:31.760 --> 00:50:34.280
Not a great movie. Not a great movie. But I
971
00:50:34.360 --> 00:50:35.960
love Christopher Walking in that.
972
00:50:36.159 --> 00:50:40.199
I liked The Machinists. Yeah. Two thousand and four was
973
00:50:40.239 --> 00:50:43.679
when Wes Anderson's The Life Aquatic with Steve Suzoo came out,
974
00:50:44.199 --> 00:50:46.599
and I didn't I didn't like it at the time,
975
00:50:46.679 --> 00:50:50.079
but I have since grown to love it. Uh. You
976
00:50:50.159 --> 00:50:54.039
mentioned The Notebook. Yeah, that was another one that I
977
00:50:54.079 --> 00:50:56.840
still think plays well. I would have liked to have
978
00:50:56.920 --> 00:51:01.360
revisited films like Troy and Seek Window because I liked
979
00:51:01.400 --> 00:51:04.679
them at the time, but I have a feeling they're
980
00:51:04.679 --> 00:51:08.719
not not very great today. Wicker Park in that category
981
00:51:08.800 --> 00:51:09.280
as well.
982
00:51:09.440 --> 00:51:10.840
I remember not liking that one.
983
00:51:10.880 --> 00:51:11.199
Really.
984
00:51:11.360 --> 00:51:16.440
Yeah, Secret Window is not bad. It's more funny though
985
00:51:17.559 --> 00:51:20.360
than like that creepy thriller. And like, you can't really
986
00:51:20.400 --> 00:51:21.800
take Johnny Depp like you used to.
987
00:51:22.760 --> 00:51:25.719
That was the year of the Clive Owen Kira Knightley
988
00:51:25.920 --> 00:51:27.000
King Arthur movie.
989
00:51:27.400 --> 00:51:30.280
I would I would like to watch that. I loved it,
990
00:51:30.280 --> 00:51:33.320
and that's Antoine Fuqua who did Train to Day that
991
00:51:33.440 --> 00:51:33.960
King Arthur.
992
00:51:34.400 --> 00:51:35.599
We didn't talk about the Village.
993
00:51:35.719 --> 00:51:38.519
The Village is one I think I kind of tried
994
00:51:38.519 --> 00:51:41.119
to push for, but I would. I would like to
995
00:51:41.159 --> 00:51:43.880
rewatch that too, because that was kind of the last
996
00:51:43.880 --> 00:51:46.480
great m Night movie until maybe Split.
997
00:51:47.519 --> 00:51:50.280
Yeah. Fair enough, fair enough, and I like.
998
00:51:50.239 --> 00:51:51.960
I did like lading in the Water. Speaking of Paul
999
00:51:52.000 --> 00:51:54.039
Giamatti about Man on.
1000
00:51:54.039 --> 00:51:56.719
Fire, Man on Fire, I remember.
1001
00:51:56.519 --> 00:51:58.960
Rarely digging that one with him and Tony Scott were
1002
00:51:59.599 --> 00:52:03.840
we're doing and their thing one of the sorry go ahead.
1003
00:52:03.679 --> 00:52:06.159
No, that's about uh, that's about all I've got.
1004
00:52:06.400 --> 00:52:10.440
I looked at somewhere I see like one of probably
1005
00:52:10.480 --> 00:52:13.199
the movies I don't like that Tom Hanks is in
1006
00:52:13.320 --> 00:52:15.920
is The Lady Killers. Oh yeah, and that's also a
1007
00:52:15.960 --> 00:52:20.119
Cohen brother movie, which is shocking. Also shout out to
1008
00:52:20.159 --> 00:52:23.119
Welcome to Mooseport because that was Gene Hackman's last film.
1009
00:52:23.199 --> 00:52:27.480
He retired after that. I don't blame him, but yeah,
1010
00:52:27.480 --> 00:52:30.360
he mentioned Sony mentioned Troy I I I kind of
1011
00:52:30.360 --> 00:52:32.519
would like to go back. That was always when when
1012
00:52:32.559 --> 00:52:34.679
people wanted to just kind of tease me and make
1013
00:52:34.679 --> 00:52:41.519
me cry, they would say Troy was better than Sock.
1014
00:52:41.760 --> 00:52:45.719
I miss those days. There's something else. Well, we talked
1015
00:52:45.760 --> 00:52:47.880
about Anchorman, which I do think is probably still one
1016
00:52:47.880 --> 00:52:52.559
of the absolute best comedies fifty first States.
1017
00:52:53.480 --> 00:52:54.639
Oh that was two thousand and four.
1018
00:52:54.760 --> 00:52:57.840
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I like that one. That's when Adam
1019
00:52:57.920 --> 00:53:04.000
Sandlers still did good movies. I know it's been a while. Yeah,
1020
00:53:04.079 --> 00:53:06.119
those are kind of the ones. I will say. My
1021
00:53:06.320 --> 00:53:09.559
son's favorite movie would be Mickey's Twice upon a Christmas.
1022
00:53:10.000 --> 00:53:10.199
Uh.
1023
00:53:10.239 --> 00:53:15.480
We watched that all all year classic. So there's that,
1024
00:53:16.119 --> 00:53:17.159
m caash. What do you got?
1025
00:53:17.679 --> 00:53:19.960
I got? Uh? I think I don't think many of these.
1026
00:53:20.119 --> 00:53:23.320
I got a couple of comedies. First of all, Saved
1027
00:53:23.960 --> 00:53:26.400
the uh Mandy Moore Macaulay Culkin film.
1028
00:53:27.119 --> 00:53:28.519
Uh never saw that.
1029
00:53:28.719 --> 00:53:32.880
It's about She plays this ultra religious girl who's dating
1030
00:53:32.920 --> 00:53:35.679
this guy named Dean, and then Dean turns out to
1031
00:53:35.719 --> 00:53:38.079
be gay. He comes out of the closet, and she
1032
00:53:38.199 --> 00:53:43.239
does everything she can to like turn him back, you know, uh,
1033
00:53:43.280 --> 00:53:46.119
even giving up her virginity because she's a virgent, because she's,
1034
00:53:46.159 --> 00:53:49.159
you know, saving herself and then uh, and then Dean
1035
00:53:49.199 --> 00:53:51.920
and gets sent to a uh what do they call
1036
00:53:51.960 --> 00:53:55.800
it street camp or whatever? Okay, sounds kind of bleak,
1037
00:53:55.840 --> 00:53:59.119
but it's actually a fun of fun little comedy.
1038
00:53:59.159 --> 00:54:06.400
It's a satire of how what religion can Yeah.
1039
00:54:05.800 --> 00:54:08.199
The White Chicks, obviously I would have been It would
1040
00:54:08.199 --> 00:54:09.719
have been fun to talk about that movie.
1041
00:54:10.119 --> 00:54:12.400
I would have been game for an episode on White Chicks.
1042
00:54:12.480 --> 00:54:15.559
Yeah, Harold and Kumar, I just I don't like the
1043
00:54:15.599 --> 00:54:18.199
whole trilogy, but I love that first one so much
1044
00:54:18.519 --> 00:54:21.199
because Neil Patrick Harris just steals the movie to me,
1045
00:54:22.039 --> 00:54:25.719
being back being the exact opposite of what he is
1046
00:54:25.719 --> 00:54:29.679
in real life. Uh, Dodgeball, we've kind of mentioned, would
1047
00:54:29.679 --> 00:54:30.880
have been fun to attack.
1048
00:54:31.000 --> 00:54:33.920
That was another contender. Yeah, I liked.
1049
00:54:35.599 --> 00:54:41.440
Closer, Yeah, Clive Owen, Uh, Natalie Portman and actually I
1050
00:54:41.480 --> 00:54:44.360
want to think Jude Law and Natalie Portman got nominated.
1051
00:54:45.119 --> 00:54:47.159
It seems like it was they were both supporting ones.
1052
00:54:47.159 --> 00:54:50.000
But I think that either was one of or the
1053
00:54:50.119 --> 00:54:53.320
last film directed by Mike nicholskt that.
1054
00:54:53.599 --> 00:54:58.119
Yeah, we could have talked about Jackass two, damn it.
1055
00:54:59.440 --> 00:55:03.519
But the I got three others. Garden State. Obviously, I
1056
00:55:03.599 --> 00:55:06.280
just love Zach Braff and everything he does. But I
1057
00:55:06.320 --> 00:55:09.719
think Butterfly Effect would have been a fun little movie
1058
00:55:09.760 --> 00:55:11.960
to rewatch because I haven't seen it in forever.
1059
00:55:12.440 --> 00:55:14.559
I remember thinking at the time that it was kind
1060
00:55:14.559 --> 00:55:16.920
of a cool movie, and it's It's in that category
1061
00:55:17.000 --> 00:55:19.960
of I'd love to rewatch to see if I actually
1062
00:55:20.119 --> 00:55:20.800
like this or not.
1063
00:55:20.920 --> 00:55:25.000
Ye, same thing I remember not I remember not liking it.
1064
00:55:25.079 --> 00:55:26.679
Then was it Amy Smart is in it too?
1065
00:55:26.760 --> 00:55:27.000
Yeah?
1066
00:55:27.039 --> 00:55:30.440
Smart? Yeah? And then lastly the one I have just
1067
00:55:30.480 --> 00:55:32.760
I would I didn't like the film version of this,
1068
00:55:32.920 --> 00:55:34.840
but I think I would want to watch it rewatch
1069
00:55:34.880 --> 00:55:37.440
it just to make Stony watch it. And that's Phantom
1070
00:55:37.440 --> 00:55:38.000
of the Opera.
1071
00:55:38.800 --> 00:55:40.719
Yeah, I would like to watch that.
1072
00:55:41.039 --> 00:55:41.320
Yeah.
1073
00:55:41.440 --> 00:55:45.800
I remember we had gone to see, Uh, there's a
1074
00:55:45.880 --> 00:55:49.599
Dennis Quaid Tyrese movie called Flight of the Phoenix. My
1075
00:55:49.760 --> 00:55:51.719
mom and I went to see that and we literally
1076
00:55:51.719 --> 00:55:54.400
were walking out of opera mills and someone handed us
1077
00:55:54.440 --> 00:55:56.559
a ticket for a sneak preview and we sat right
1078
00:55:56.599 --> 00:55:58.599
smack in the middle and was watched Phanom of the Opera.
1079
00:55:58.639 --> 00:55:59.840
How about that? That's cool?
1080
00:56:00.239 --> 00:56:03.519
Also, National Treasure, that was a fun little movie.
1081
00:56:03.559 --> 00:56:06.400
That's what this is I thought that was like O
1082
00:56:06.519 --> 00:56:09.920
two for some reason. No, okay, well there we go.
1083
00:56:11.440 --> 00:56:12.360
What a year it was?
1084
00:56:13.280 --> 00:56:14.000
What a year?
1085
00:56:14.119 --> 00:56:16.880
It was the liberteam that wouldn't tilto.
1086
00:56:17.400 --> 00:56:20.119
That's the thing you remember from the liberteam? It is
1087
00:56:20.239 --> 00:56:22.880
I was about to say the same thing the wooden Bildo.
1088
00:56:23.800 --> 00:56:27.719
Yeah, I think we've waxed poetically about the year two
1089
00:56:27.760 --> 00:56:31.519
thousand and four. Enough, we're closing in on an hour. Yes, yeah,
1090
00:56:32.199 --> 00:56:34.960

you would like us to discuss. Cheers to another episode

00:57:19.440 --> 00:57:21.639
of drinking with where we explored the films, or actually
1107
00:57:21.719 --> 00:57:24.679
explored the year of two thousand and four, just as
1108
00:57:24.719 --> 00:57:27.199
an age Like a fine wine. We raise our glass
1109
00:57:27.559 --> 00:57:31.320
and we laughed, reminisced greatly over the year. So until
