ABOUT THIS EPISODE
Man, I’ve been looking forward to sharing this one.
I found @theopenposturedoc scrolling Instagram, and something about the way she talked about the body immediately clicked for me.
I’ve spent years on the floor with foam rollers and lacrosse balls, breathing, stretching, and trying to find a little more freedom in my body. Sometimes I’d find something that changed how I felt for the rest of the day. I could breathe easier, my voice felt different, and I felt more comfortable being around people. But explaining what I was experiencing?
That’s where I’d get stuck. So getting to sit down with Dr. Lily Baker and ask her about all of this was pretty fucking cool.
We got into posture, fascia, breathing, and all the things we’ve been told about holding ourselves together. Suck your stomach in. Tuck your tail. Stand up straight. How much of that are we doing because it feels good, and how much are we doing because we learned somewhere that our bodies were supposed to look a certain way?
And then, naturally, we ended up talking about dancing, being naked in nature, body shame, relationships, and feeling safe enough with another person to actually let your guard down.
You know me. We were gonna get there. 😂
What I appreciated most about Lily was how willing she was to be a human in this conversation. She shared what she’s learned, what she’s experienced, and the fact that she still has hard days and is figuring things out too.
I think we need more of that in wellness. Especially when trying to feel better starts becoming another reason to feel like you’re falling short.
Lily, thank you for being so open with me. I learned a lot, and I’m excited to keep exploring this work with you.
