00:00:00
Speaker 1: The quest for the three-peat has begun.
00:00:03
Speaker 2: Only four teams in Major League Baseball history have won three consecutive titles.
00:00:08
Speaker 3: The Dodgers are the favorites to become the fifth.
00:00:12
Speaker 1: This is World Champion Dodger Talk.
00:00:15
Speaker 4: Here we go again.
00:00:15
Speaker 5: We're getting ready to run it back.
00:00:16
Speaker 1: To get in on the show, call 866-987-2570. And be sure to follow Dodger Talk wherever you get your podcasts. And now your host, here's Tim Kays.
00:00:29
Speaker 4: Never gets old.
00:00:31
Speaker 6: Does it Dodger fans when in the N L West, the Dodgers have now done it 13 of the last 14 years as they beat the Cincinnati reds today by a final of eight to two, the magic number goes from one to zero as the Dodgers are your NL West champs. for 2026. 866-987-2570 is our phone number. If you didn't remember it was a day game, well, welcome to Dodger Talk here at 137 in the afternoon. Time check right here on AM570 LA Sports and the iHeartRadio app is the Dodger's with a getaway day today in Cincinnati, the final game of the four-game series, the final game of the seven-game road trip. Last night, the Dodgers had an opportunity to clinch the division.
00:01:20
Speaker 4: They had Andrew Freeman fly out.
00:01:22
Speaker 6: The Dodgers were primed and ready to go with Blake Snell on the mound, and then Blake Snell left after one inning of work. After getting three outs, he left with the sore groin. It was a Dodgers bullpen game. The Dodgers fell behind and lose the game last night. The Padres won, so it pushed a possible celebration till today in what was a 9 40 AM Pacific first pitch from great American ballpark in Cincinnati. And there was maybe some question of the Dodgers would be a little tired. All we kept hearing about was how hot and humid it was with a hundred degree index there with the heats inside great American ballpark on the field. And the Dodgers come out and scored early and scored often. And wouldn't you know it, it was Kyle Tucker who got the scoring going with a two-run home run in the first inning. Max Muncy went deep. Miguel Rojas went deep. The Dodgers jumped out in front of Brady Singer. And the Reds, a 4-0 lead after two, a 7-0 lead after four innings. And they go on and win it by a final of 8-2. And we were just counting down the outs here. in our AM570 LA Sports Studios with Collin Yead just checking off out by out. Matt DeMecchi, our social media director, was getting all the different things ready to go and the celebration to go as far as social media tweets and posts on Instagram and just waiting for the Dodgers to do it. And then they did with an 8-2 victory, clinching the NL West. over the Cincinnati Reds today with the victory as they now try to fight it out with the Atlanta Braves to find out who will be the number two spot, or can they catch the Milwaukee Brewers for the top spot in the National League? And that will be determined over the next nine games as the Dodgers, as we speak, sit at 93-60 overall in this season. They are two games back of the Milwaukee Brewers. Yeah, only two games back because Milwaukee lost two Today to the Pittsburgh Pirates. So they're 95 and 58. The Dodgers two games back of Milwaukee for the top spot in the National League.
00:03:19
Speaker 4: With the Braves off today, the Dodgers pick up a half game. So now they are.
00:03:23
Speaker 6: Four games up with nine to play for the second spot. in the national league so all good news for the dodgers today as they clench the nl west 866-987-2570 866-987-2570 you've got plenty of time for your phone calls we're also going to hear with uh dave roberts in the media his session that he talked to the group of beat writers and kirsten watson just a few minutes ago so we'll see what he had to say of course we heard from Basically everybody during the clubhouse show. How awesome was that? David Vassey inside the Dodgers clubhouse, getting the post game celebration, talking to the players, talking to Andrew Freeman. And it was a great time. Hope you enjoyed all of it right here on a five 70 LA sports. Let's check in with Jose.
00:04:06
Speaker 1: It's time. to go around the horn with Jose Mota.
00:04:10
Speaker 4: Ah, Jose, what a great day for the Dodgers. It never gets old.
00:04:13
Speaker 6: I know this team has dominated the NL West over the last 14 years, winning it now 13 times, but one of.
00:04:20
Speaker 4: Those days today, you ask, well, why are they celebrating?
00:04:23
Speaker 6: Because they've worked hard to get to this point, and these boys need to celebrate.
00:04:26
Speaker 7: This is a very tough-minded group. I mean, congratulations, first of all, and outstanding job in the clubhouse. Everybody involved in Obviously, you know, Dave and everybody in there, the players contributing. But to you guys, who are supposedly not your fans, but the fan base that, again, deserves it. This is the partnership that you create, as Andrew Fumero said for many years, Stan Kasten, because the fans really care. And that's where you have the best product on the field. I, myself, personally feel blessed because I came here, again, from another organization at the right time. But I'll tell you what. You cannot... ever get tired of this because this being, say, a second step after you clinch a pass into October, you know the hard work that goes into this. You know the tough times. You know all the doubts. You know the people just to have that target on you and to go out there and just perform, get it done in the field. It's all that matters to this whole group. Again, well done. Dave Roberts, once again, why he is a true leader and obviously the guys that are supporting him with the coaching staff. Again, getting you guys ready to play and not just to play and compete, but the value of your way is to win.
00:05:33
Speaker 4: You know, it's interesting, Jose.
00:05:35
Speaker 6: In spring training every year, the managers will talk to their team, and we often get to hear what Dave Roberts has to say to his collective group of players, and it's everybody in that clubhouse. It's guys who aren't going to make the team as non-roster on Vides. It's guys who are going to start the year in AAA, guys who don't even know their roles that season, and he says, hey, everybody in here at some point is going to contribute. Just because you're on the 26-man roster to start the year doesn't mean you're not going to help out this team. And I think a prime example of that is today. And seeing Josue DiPaola in there contributing with an RBI single. And to see Justin Robleski and Landon Knack have the kind of seasons they had. In particular, Robleski. An all-star first half of the season. Double-digit wins. Goes to Philadelphia. Didn't have the great second half. But today, when they asked him to go out there and give them three, four innings, he did exactly that.
00:06:24
Speaker 4: He was perfect for three innings. It truly takes everybody.
00:06:28
Speaker 7: It does take everybody. And, again, it's not just words. Dave Roberts means it. Go back and look at the Dodger roster the last 10, 11 seasons. And you see guys like Michael Groh, for example, and you go, wow. I mean, everybody contributed in one.
00:06:41
Speaker 1: Way or another.
00:06:41
Speaker 7: And also, you know, they don't write guys off. There's a lot of organizations that write guys off after maybe a rough stretch. Like, you know what? Take a little breather. We know that you belong. Let's find out how we can help you. Every single source available to help you out and get you back on track, as is the case. Uh, you know, we're landing that today. Uh, but Robleski, I mean, become an all-star and scuffle, and you know, they have a big role because you proved it last week. You can pitch to the big boys and against the big boys, the biggest scenarios and the values know about that. This guy's built a little bit differently. Of course, in the long season, the more you pitch to the starter, the more the league is going to find out about you. But he showed again today in a tough, tough.
00:07:18
Speaker 8: Environment, man.
00:07:19
Speaker 7: Um, It's just the heat, the humidity, guys cramping out, that he has enough to go out there and get you out and start the baseball. He was aggressive today, which I'm very happy about. But I think Dave Roberts knows how to delegate. He knows how to also make guys accountable. And he also counts on leadership. And a good leader is going to go out there and challenge you to bet better. I think every single player at some point, even Taylor, a month ago, was challenged to become better. And then he responded so nicely.
00:07:43
Speaker 6: I look at Kyle Tucker and what he's doing right now, Jose. You talk about a guy who's heating up at the right time.
00:07:49
Speaker 4: I mean, he has struggled.
00:07:50
Speaker 6: We all know what has happened, and his struggles at home and on the road, and maybe the pressure got to him, whatever. Here he is in September, in particular, mid to late September, and he is starting to heat up at the right time.
00:08:03
Speaker 7: You can go and take this base if you're a time sucker and say, you know what, it doesn't matter what happens at the start of that month. I know who I am as a player. I don't have to carry this ball club. I know that if I get my swing straightened out, things are going to happen. There's been even a little more urgency from him playing the outfield with throws and covering to his left, especially getting to the ball in the cutoffs. All these things happen. And I think, you know, it takes sometimes a guy to forget about the expectations and the salary and the contract. You still can play baseball. I have seen the best of Kyle Tucker, I mean, for years with the Astros. Then we saw it first half of last season with the Cubs. This guy can really play now what I hope to see from here on out. No, he does not have to carry anybody. There's a bunch of players that would do the same. But just be a contributor. Keep it simple. But, again, your talent comes to the surface now because the big lights are on you and the less you try to do, the better he's going to be. And today, just a big game for him just to hear him talk today about saying. It was like a relief in his voice and being able to relax a little bit more, smiling at first base. All positive for a guy like Kyle Tucker who wants to do way more, and we know there's way more in that tank.
00:09:11
Speaker 4: No doubt about it. Jose, safe travels back.
00:09:13
Speaker 6: I know it's going to be a happy flight back for this Dodgers team, the coaching staff as they clinch the NL West today with a victory over the Cincinnati Reds, and we'll talk to you in a couple days.
00:09:22
Speaker 7: My friend.
00:09:23
Speaker 4: All right. There he goes. Jose Moda. Dodgers baseball brought to you by Modelo. Modelo, the mark of a fighter.
00:09:30
Speaker 6: 866-987-2570 is the telephone number.
00:09:33
Speaker 4: Let's go out to the phones. We got one line open if you want to jump on board.
00:09:36
Speaker 6: We're here for the next 30 minutes or so talking Dodger baseball and, of course, celebrating yet another NL West divisional title.
00:09:44
Speaker 4: Michael in Houston, Texas. This is our first call here on postgame Dodger talk. How you doing, Michael?
00:09:51
Speaker 9: Pretty good. Ted Dodgers just won another division title.
00:09:55
Speaker 7: My question for you is what do you think about Tommy.
00:09:57
Speaker 3: Edmond hitting lead off when Otani comes back?
00:10:00
Speaker 6: I think it's a valid question that the Dodgers are going to have to look at Michael. And I appreciate the phone call. I think the bigger question before that is when is Shohei Otani coming going to come back. He's eligible to come off the injured list a week from yesterday, the 23rd. So we'll find out whether or not he is in fact going to be coming off the injured list when eligible. If he's not, are they going to keep him on the injured list for a couple of extra days? Are they going to bring him back and try to squeeze in a couple of games during the regular season to get to October? I mean, if they clinch one of the top two spots in the National League, they of course get a buy in the wildcard round.
00:10:35
Speaker 4: So they get five days off.
00:10:37
Speaker 6: Between their last game on Sunday in San Francisco before they got to play the following Saturday in the first game of the NLDS series. So that's an extended break for Shohei Otani. Do you want him to just keep riding this break through the end of the regular season if the Dodgers secure one of the top two spots to give him even more rest? Or does he need A-Bs? against live bullets, live pitching, games that count against San Francisco or the final game against San Diego next Thursday.
00:11:08
Speaker 4: Does he need those at-bats before the postseason?
00:11:10
Speaker 6: We'll find out, and I think that's a big question right now is before he comes back, is when he comes back and if he comes back here in the regular season. It's sounding like he is progressing. Dave Roberts made the comment that he is pain-free. Now the follow-up question is, is he pain-free in the knee? Is he pain-free in the elbow? Is he pain-free in his neck? And it sounds like, in general, he is pain-free everywhere. So that is certainly good news. And he took a couple of days off. He's been hitting off a tee. And Dave Roberts alluded to the next step is little coach pitch, you know, a little soft BP with a, with a pitching coach, you know, halfway between the mound and home plate with a L screen in front of them, just getting at bats off of live pitching at a shorter distance. So that's the next step. It sounds like for Shohei Ohtani and you just hope he continues to be pain-free as he progresses back with baseball activities, but certainly when Shohei Ohtani comes back and he's healthy and ready to go for October, well, It will be interesting to see what Dave Roberts elects to do, whether it's to keep him in the leadoff spot or keep Tommy Edmond in the.
00:12:15
Speaker 4: Leadoff spot for the playoffs. 866-987-2570. Ken Newport Beach.
00:12:21
Speaker 6: Welcome to Dodger Talk on the day in which the Dodgers clinch the NL West yet again.
00:12:25
Speaker 4: How you doing, Ken?
00:12:27
Speaker 5: Hey, Tim. Good to talk to you.
00:12:29
Speaker 7: So this is brief.
00:12:31
Speaker 5: It's great to see them win this final game. Mm-hmm. it's great to see the offense really come up and smash the ball. But the biggest highlight for me in the entire days is watching all the players, basically semi drowned, David dug out after the game, they were just spore and the stuff on them. And I was rolling on the ground. Yeah.
00:12:54
Speaker 6: It's, it's great to see the rapport that he's got with these players and certainly being around them every day, like he is from spring training all the way through. It's a grind for everybody who travels. Dwayne McDonald, our engineer, the English and Spanish broadcaster, is a TV broadcaster. Certainly not doing it on the field every day, but just being around the team. It's a lot of fun to see everybody celebrate today.
00:13:14
Speaker 5: Yeah, it was great. Congratulations to everyone. All right.
00:13:18
Speaker 4: Ken in Newport Beach.
00:13:20
Speaker 1: Wow.
00:13:21
Speaker 6: I mean, positivity flowing on a Thursday from Ken in Newport Beach. Usually it's, why is Muncie hitting 180 in the last 30 at-bats? And why is Tommy Edmond doing this? Or why are the Dodgers doing that? But yeah, hey, it's that kind of day when the Dodgers win the NL West and they do it for the 13th time in the last 14 years. And Dave Roberts, by the way, winning his 10th divisional title in the last 11 years and now 11 straight playoff appearances as the Dodger manager. I mean, I think we're beyond the whole Dave Roberts criticism talk. I mean, he has proven certainly that he has a really good manager.
00:14:00
Speaker 4: And probably a hall of fame.
00:14:02
Speaker 6: And I, I don't even say probably he is a future hall of fame manager for what he has done as a Dodger skipper. And to think about it, I think Jose alluded to it with different groups of guys and different groups of players in over a course of years, whether it's his first few years as Dodger manager to the middle years, to the final last couple of years where you saw an aging Clayton Kershaw and the transition really begin with the exit of Justin Turner and that group. And, you know, to see Jock Peterson and that whole group of 17, 18, 19, the 20 world series, you know, morph into the Freddie Freeman, Mookie bets era of Dodgers baseball and the additions of, Teoscar Hernandez and the evolution of Max Muncy when he came. It's fun to see the, the evolvement of this Dodgers team over the last decade. I mean, it's been more than a decade, but just the last decade and what Dave Roberts has been able.
00:14:59
Speaker 4: To do, you know, molding this team.
00:15:01
Speaker 6: And again, being a manager is not just about filling up a lineup card with the Sharpie and, you know, when needed to go out there and make a pitching change, there's a lot that goes into it. And there's a lot that goes into it off the field. And if you're lucky enough to get out of Dodger stadium to see what the managers and coaches do on a daily basis, the coaches working with the players and, the fundamentals every day, the drills every day. But for Dave Roberts, it's walking around, and you get to see it just on the field, not even what happens behind in the clubhouse, but just going around and talking to different guys, whether it's around the cage, whether it's in the infield, whether it's in the dugout.
00:15:34
Speaker 4: You see them oftentimes in left field.
00:15:36
Speaker 6: When the Dodgers are at home where all the relief pitchers are down there, just kind of going guy to guy, talking to them, asking them how they're doing.
00:15:44
Speaker 4: A lot of it's massaging egos.
00:15:46
Speaker 6: At this level of Phil Jackson was one of the best bill Belichick did it at the football level by not allowing guys to have egos because he was the biggest of them all. But Dave Roberts style of managing is just making sure everybody's comfortable to do their job and trusting in their talent. And that's the biggest thing is not overreacting, not getting caught up in public sentiment and they ride guys. And whether it's up or down, they'll be loyal to him. And Dave Roberts is, Um, you know, a lot of times takes criticism for being too loyal to guys over the years for, for negative stretches and bad months at a time, bad years at a time. Um, he sticks with guys and he's so good at that and believing in his players and getting the most out of all these guys, whether it's a max Muncie or whether it's a superstar, like a Mookie beds or whether it's a show. Hey, I mean, guys show a Ohtani did not win a world series in six seasons in Anaheim.
00:16:41
Speaker 4: And he had Mike trout on his team.
00:16:44
Speaker 6: And granted, they didn't have all the talent the Dodgers have, the pitching staff the Dodgers have had, the bullpens the Dodgers have had. But to not win a playoff game in six years down in Anaheim and in the coming, he has won now back-to-back World Series championships, speaks a lot about what he is and what he has meant to this team and what the team has meant really to show A.O.
00:17:04
Speaker 1: Tawny.
00:17:06
Speaker 6: Everybody talks about how great he is as a unicorn, but it's how he fit into this group. This is a team that won before he got there. This is a team that has won since he's got there. So he has just been an addition, certainly a really good addition, but an addition to what was already been in a winning culture and an organization.
00:17:24
Speaker 7: 866-987-257.
00:17:24
Speaker 6: Let's keep going with the phone calls. Got a line open if you want to jump on board. Here's where for the next 20 minutes, we're going to hear from the manager, Dave Roberts, coming up in just a little bit as well. Hector and Anaheim, welcome to Dodger Talk here on AM570 LA Sports as the Dodgers clinch the NL West yet again.
00:17:41
Speaker 3: Hey, Tim. Just want to say congratulations to the Dodgers. This never gets old. I've been a Dodger fan for years and years, and there's been so many tough moments as a Dodger fan, but then you have to appreciate these moments. It's the first goal of... The next few steps that we have to take, the big steps we have to take. And I appreciate this brand of baseball. I appreciate Dave Roberts. I appreciate Freddie Freeman, Mookie. I mean, the list goes on. And to see DePaula get a taste of this celebration means a lot to me because, you know, this group of players is getting older and DePaula is going to be here for the next, you know, 10, 15 years, you know, whatever it is. So I just want to say congratulations to the organizations, Andrew Friedman to everyone in the front office. I can't wait to listen to scam in October. I love listening to scam on my way in the work and getting your thoughts on the previous game or, you know, whatever's happening, but I'm looking forward to it. I think I really feel like we're going to go three feet, so let's get it. I want to see you at the parade and get some, you know, celebrations cutting going on. Thank you.
00:18:41
Speaker 4: All right, Hector. Thank you for the nice word. So yeah, I can tell you scam is back.
00:18:48
Speaker 6: Scam will be here for post-season baseball sacks and Kate's and the AM is back and better than ever in 2026. We'll have more details to come as the regular season winds down. The Dodgers still with nine games to go and to say they won the division. Let's just ease into post-season play. No, no, the Dodgers got nine games left. They've got six against the giants and three against the Padres. Job not done, as the late, great Kobe Bryant once said. The Dodgers need to still secure one of these top two spots in the National League. They got a four-game lead over the Atlanta Braves, who are idle today, and they're now, what, just two games back of the Milwaukee Brewers for the.
00:19:39
Speaker 4: Best overall record in the National League.
00:19:42
Speaker 6: I kind of like sitting in the number two spot if it was between me and you. I like the path to the world series going as a two spot in the national league. Now the Braves four games back with nine to play for the Dodgers. I think the Braves got 10 games left since they were off today.
00:20:02
Speaker 4: It's still not over.
00:20:03
Speaker 6: You don't want to take your foot off the gas against the Giants this weekend because they would love nothing more than to send the Dodgers to a wild card round. The Giants get the Dodgers six more times. And as bad as they are and as awful of a season it has been for the San Francisco Giants, they would love nothing more at this point in their dreadful season than to push the Dodgers out of one of those top two spots. So that's why the Dodgers need to take care of business. the last nine games.
00:20:36

00:20:51

If you missed any of the postgame celebration, it'll be up on the iHeartRadio app under the Dodger Talk umbrella. So if you listen or podcast the Dodger Talk, you get the pregame show, Dodgers on Deck.
00:21:09
Speaker 4: You get every single Dodger Talk.
00:21:10
Speaker 6: You get all the great interviews that David Vasse does after every Dodger win.
00:21:14
Speaker 4: And this afternoon.
00:21:16
Speaker 6: Colin E is going to spend the next 12 hours putting up all the interviews that David Vasse did inside the Dodgers clubhouse because I.
00:21:24
Speaker 4: Think he literally talked to everybody. No, I should say everybody wanted to talk to David. as they should after a Dodger win today.
00:21:33
Speaker 6: Congratulations to your Los Angeles Dodgers, the 2026 national league, Western division champions. Dodger talk continues right here on AM five 70 LA sports live everywhere on the I heart radio app.
00:21:50
Speaker 4: Hey, it's Miguel Rojas.
00:21:51
Speaker 10: This is Dodger talk AM five 70 LA sports.
00:21:56
Speaker 4: Your home of the Dodgers.
00:21:59
Speaker 11: 3-1 offer out of the stretch. And Tucker swings, hits the ball well to right center field. It is deep, it is back, and it is gone.
00:22:06
Speaker 7: A home run.
00:22:07
Speaker 11: Kyle Tucker, home run number 16. And the Dodgers strike first today in Cincinnati.
00:22:13
Speaker 8: It is 2-0.
00:22:15
Speaker 6: Kyle Tucker starting to heat up just in time for October baseball. He hits his 16th home run of this season, a two run drive off of Brady singer in the first inning as the Dodgers go on and beat the reds today, eight to two and the wind clenches the NL West for your Los Angeles Dodgers as they clinch the division for the 13th time in the last 14 years. So congratulations to Dave Roberts, his coaching staff, and to all the Dodger players. Literally everybody that has contributed to this team. And it takes a village, as they say, to get a championship. And certainly the first step is to win your division. And the Dodgers have done that with an 8-2 win over the Cincinnati Reds. And again, Kyle Tucker fell a triple shy of a cycle. He had three RBIs in this game. He had a single and a pair of doubles. And of course, his 16th home run of the season. So Just in time for the end of September and October baseball, King Tuck is starting to heat up for your Dodgers, who are fly home today, by the way, and are right back at it tomorrow. They don't get a day off until Monday. They got a three-game weekend set against the San Francisco Giants. It'll be Tyler Glass now going in the opener tomorrow. And he already flew back, by the way. That's why we didn't see him celebrating. He flew back early, so he's ready to go. Tarek Skubal will get the start on Saturday, and then TBD, We'll get the start on Sunday, as we'll find out here in the next couple of days what Dave Roberts will like to do. Maybe it's Rokey Sasaki. Ooh, could it be Rokey?
00:23:48
Speaker 4: He threw a bullpen session. He's already done a couple of up-downs.
00:23:51
Speaker 6: He did four innings a couple days ago when the Dodgers first got to Cincinnati. It would line up for Rokey Sasaki to get the start. And again, the big news, Andy Paez is training in the right direction. Dave Roberts said they could activate him off the injured lists. the final week of the season. So we'll see. I mean, if you would have told me when he got his hand broken and had to have a surgery to put a screw in there, that he'd be back before the end of the regular season, I would have told you were crazy. I would have told you it would have been a work of God to bring him back this soon because of the way the injury is having a screw put in the bone that's heard and having to let it just heal time.
00:24:29
Speaker 4: Just let it heal.
00:24:31
Speaker 6: And the fact that he is trending in the right direction, and Dave Roberts pregame today saying Andy Pius could return here in the final week of the season, that is great news. And Shohei Otani paying free, according to Dave Roberts. So a lot of positives for the Dodgers. Even Edwin Diaz in his last rehab appearance in AAA looked good, according to Dave Roberts. He'll return tomorrow and get activated in the Dodgers bullpen. But as Dave Roberts said pregame, low leverage situations for Edwin Diaz. He needs to earn his way into high leverage situations. I think that's a great, again, just a great example of Dave Roberts being the kind of manager he is and as successful as he is.
00:25:08
Speaker 4: Not just rushing to say, he's our close. We're going to put him right back out there. He's our guy. He's being paid a lot of money.
00:25:12
Speaker 10: Yep.
00:25:13
Speaker 6: He's Edwin Diaz. You know, the trumpets are going to be blasting. We're putting him back out there. No, he has certainly struggled. He has had his problems here in 2026, and Dave Roberts knows that you need to build him up with his confidence and certainly the results on the field. And to do that, you put him in low leverage situations. So this weekend against the Giants, if the Dodgers are up big or down big or whatever the situation is as far as low leverage is concerned, those will be the opportunities and chances that we'll see Edwin Diaz.
00:25:41
Speaker 4: 866-987-2570.
00:25:42
Speaker 6: Eric in Hollywood. Welcome to Dodger Talk as the Dodgers cleanse the division.
00:25:46
Speaker 4: How you doing, Eric?
00:25:48
Speaker 12: Dodger nation are back to back champions back at it. And let me just tell you something. When the Dodgers do stuff like this, even Ken and Newport beach sounds positive. Tucker smiled on television. I saw him smile to me.
00:26:05
Speaker 7: I was like, Oh my God.
00:26:06
Speaker 6: Yeah.
00:26:06
Speaker 4: What was that?
00:26:07
Speaker 3: I have emotion.
00:26:08
Speaker 4: Those teeth. We saw he was smiling.
00:26:11
Speaker 12: Wait a minute.
00:26:12
Speaker 10: This guy's smiling.
00:26:13
Speaker 12: So yes, I'm extremely excited. And I just want to piggyback on a couple of things. Other Dodger fans have said, this does not get old. We have been fans for a very long time and we're at the mountain top right now. And we're back to back champions trying to get that third. And this is the first step, but it feels great, man. It really does, man. It really feels.
00:26:33
Speaker 7: Great to be a Dodger fan.
00:26:35
Speaker 12: I love that team. I love Dodger fans. I love Dodger nation. And Hey man, let's go.
00:26:41
Speaker 4: All right, Eric. I love it.
00:26:42
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:26:42
Speaker 6: We got to see Kyle Tucker smile in the clubhouse and he would talk with David Vasse and of course our friends at sports net LA.
00:26:51
Speaker 4: Had it as well.
00:26:52
Speaker 6: And if you didn't see it, it's on social media. You can see it on all the different platforms. Kyle Tucker with David Vasse. And to see Kyle Tucker smiling, I was like, whoa! Cannot believe that. The guy who doesn't show a lot of emotion finally showing emotion today after he had a big game, a big road trip, and certainly a big month of September. And a big part of the reason why the Dodgers clinched today is an 8-2 victory over the Cincinnati Reds.
00:27:15
Speaker 4: Robert in Long Beach. Welcome to Dodger Talk.
00:27:17
Speaker 5: Whoa!
00:27:18
Speaker 4: On this Thursday afternoon. How you doing, Robert? Very well, Tim.
00:27:22
Speaker 8: Thank you for taking my call. Two quick points for you today. Number one, looking at the remaining schedule, a nice little cherry on top of this season would be for the Dodgers to be the instrument that dismisses the San Diego Padres from postseason contention. I would very much like that. And also, on a day like this, it's a fine time to tell you how much I love this broadcast. I really do enjoy the product on the radio more so than television and have the opportunity to travel throughout the country and listen to a lot of baseball and Not only does LA have the best team in the world, we've got the best radio broadcast team in the world. You guys all do a great job. I know how much sweat you put into all of this. And from Tim to Charlie to everybody, I cannot get enough of Dodger baseball on AM570 LA Sports, Tim.
00:28:02
Speaker 6: Oh, Robert, you are too nice, my friend. Thank you for all the nice words. And, yeah, it's a great team effort. And I think the pillar and the person it starts with is Colin Yee. And the stud in the studio, as Steven Nelson calls him, is the backbone to– to get us on the air, to get us off the air, and to juggle everything that he has to do. And then Dwayne McDonald is right there with him, another pillar on the broadcast, in the booth. The two guys that really make this engine go are Colin and Dwayne, and they do a fantastic job. And then everybody else is just riding along on the bike. They do all the pedaling. They do all the heavy lifting. They're the ones guiding us, and we're just along for the ride. My feet are off the pedals, believe me. I'm just along for the ride and enjoying everything that's happening with this Dodgers team. By the way, it would be kind of nice to have the Padres eliminated as a wildcard team at the hands of the Dodgers.
00:28:50
Speaker 4: We'll see.
00:28:52
Speaker 6: I just don't know if the Diamondbacks have enough to catch them. The Diamondbacks have lost two in a row. Right now, they're three and a half games back of the Padres. with, what, nine, ten games to go. Padres won again today. I mean, San Diego just keeps.
00:29:05
Speaker 4: Right on rolling.
00:29:06
Speaker 6: They've won nine of their last ten. I just don't think Arizona's got enough in the tank down the stretch. It would take the Padres to go into a little bit of a skid, and the Dodgers only get three games against them. So the Dodgers could help out, certainly. But Arizona's going to have to go on a heater, as they say, in order to catch them. So I don't think they've got enough to catch them. But, man, that would be kind of cool if it was at the hands of the Dodgers to eliminate them. from the postseason. Izzy and Anaheim, there is no launching pad today because Rogan and Rodney are going to be on here coming up in about five or six minutes. So we bring Izzy from Anaheim on. Izzy, listen, the Dodgers clinch. They scored eight runs. Everything was good. It's all positive as far as the injury front is concerned.
00:29:49
Speaker 4: This is a good day.
00:29:51
Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm worried.
00:29:53
Speaker 9: So anyway, but listen, hey, I'm happy that.
00:29:58
Speaker 10: They got it over with. Why couldn't they do this last night? But anyway, I still have trouble from last night game. But what I.
00:30:07
Speaker 9: Was telling Colin... That, you know, they.
00:30:10
Speaker 10: Did get through October. I cannot go to another World Series, another Game 7 World Series after last year. So if they do go to World Series this year, Dodgers, man, no more Game 7, please. I'm still recovering from it, trust me. But, hey, I'm happy, you know.
00:30:29
Speaker 9: All my friends in my day program happy, too. They were listening to the game with me, so.
00:30:34
Speaker 10: But, yeah, we'll see what happens. And I would.
00:30:38
Speaker 9: Just love to sweep San Diego or at least get to L3. At least sweep the Giants. Oh, that would be great.
00:30:49
Speaker 4: That would be great, Izzy.
00:30:50
Speaker 6: Great to hear your voice. Everything's going to be okay. And have a great afternoon.
00:30:54
Speaker 10: Okay.
00:30:56
Speaker 12: Thanks.
00:30:56
Speaker 9: Bye.
00:30:57
Speaker 6: All right. There's Izzy in Anaheim. Always worried about the Dodgers, even after they clinched. their 13th divisional title in the last 14 years. Let's head back earlier during the celebration while David Vassey was getting drenched in champagne, Kirsten Watson, the beat writers had a chance to talk with the manager, Dave Roberts.
00:31:14
Speaker 5: Well, Dave, I know we talked on the field about just you all winning the division, but moments like this, a speech you gave to your group, what makes either of these.
00:31:21
Speaker 11: Moments so special or more just.
00:31:23
Speaker 4: Memorable for you?
00:31:24
Speaker 2: Yeah, special, memorable. I think it's one of those things where in baseball we play every day and guys focus on performing. And so there's not a whole lot of moments to celebrate. And so just to see guys let loose a little bit, it's really fun for me to kind of step back and see guys have a good time.
00:31:45
Speaker 4: Does this ever get old?
00:31:47
Speaker 5: It doesn't.
00:31:47
Speaker 1: It doesn't.
00:31:48
Speaker 2: Baseball is hard. And, you know, there's a lot of expectations, certainly when you put this uniform on. And so when you get an opportunity to win the division, to pop champagne, to celebrate with your players, coaches, staff. front office, it doesn't get old.
00:32:03
Speaker 6: Is that expectation almost like pounded on itself year after year of doing this as the payroll gets bigger and bigger?
00:32:07
Speaker 4: Do you feel like you're almost at the top of what you did before?
00:32:11
Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's hard, but I think for us, I know we do a really good job of sticking to the fundamentals and how we play, how we practice, not taking things for granted, and then resetting to kind of move forward. There's certainly a higher expectation when If you don't win the World Series, you failed. But that's kind of part of what you sign up when you play for the Dodgers.
00:32:36
Speaker 8: Strike the balance of everything you just described, which is all kind of easier said than done, but in practice.
00:32:41
Speaker 2: In practice, it's a lot of conversations, keeping guys in the bumper lanes, myself in the bumper lanes, and not try to get too far ahead. Because people are talking about a three-peat this offseason. And So to keep guys focused on the day to day, that's probably the hardest thing. But for me personally, that's something I enjoy most.
00:33:03
Speaker 6: Who spoke and what was kind of the message as you guys cheers?
00:33:07
Speaker 4: It was just me.
00:33:08
Speaker 2: I spoke to the guys and just really lauding them. And the fact that I think that we're the most talented team, the smartest team, the toughest team and the hungriest team. So enjoy this moment. But we got a ball game tomorrow.
00:33:22
Speaker 6: All right.
00:33:23
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:33:23
Speaker 6: Ball game tomorrow, but a happy flight home. For Dave Roberts and the Dodgers as they beat the Cincinnati Reds today, 8-2. Landon Knack gets the victory after Justin Robleski went three innings. Knack went four innings of shutout baseball. as the Dodgers get the win 8-2 over the Reds to clinch the NL West for the 13th time in the last 14 years. That's going to do it for Dodger Talk on this Thursday afternoon. Thank you for listening, being a part of the show. If you're podcasting, we appreciate that as well on the iHeartRadio app. Dodgers back at it tomorrow as they start their final homestand.
00:33:57
Speaker 4: Of the regular season.
00:33:58
Speaker 6: First up, a three-game weekend set against the San Francisco Giants.
00:34:01
Speaker 4: Tyler Glass now, who's already back home, by the way.
00:34:04
Speaker 6: We didn't get to see those locks flying, all that lettuce flying around from Tyler Glass now in the celebration. He's already back home, probably listening right here on AM570 LA Sports. Tarek Skubal scheduled to get the start on Saturday.
00:34:16
Speaker 4: TBD will go on Sunday in the finale.
00:34:19
Speaker 6: Coming up next, Rogan and Rodney, followed by the Petros and Money Show.
00:34:24
Speaker 4: Dodgers, again, The best in the West.
00:34:28
Speaker 6: They clinched the NL West divisional title with an 8-2 win over the Reds.
00:34:33
Speaker 4: So long, everybody.

00:20:51
Speaker 6: We'll hear from the manager, Dave Roberts, who talked to the media during the postgame celebration inside the Dodgers clubhouse.
