ABOUT THIS EPISODE
Before the Cross, He Prayed for You: Jesus’ Final Prayers – John 17:6–26
In Episode 156 of Divine Table Talk, Jamie and Jane continue their journey through the Gospel of John with John 17:6–26, where we are invited into one of the most personal and powerful moments in Scripture: Jesus praying for His disciples—and for every believer who would come after them.
With the cross just ahead, Jesus doesn't pray for an escape from suffering. Instead, He prays for protection, unity, holiness, and a love that reflects the very heart of the Father.
And then something extraordinary happens. Jesus prays for us.
Together, Jamie and Jane unpack what it means to know that Jesus was thinking about future believers before He went to the cross. They explore His desire for His followers to be united in truth, set apart for God's purposes, and rooted in the same love the Father has for the Son.
What does real Christian unity look like? How do we live in a world that often rejects God's truth without becoming disconnected from the people we're called to love? And how does knowing that Jesus interceded for us change the way we pray, love, and live today?
John 17 reminds us that we aren't simply followers of Jesus—we are people He loves, protects, and prays for.
If you've ever felt alone, divided, or uncertain about your place in God's story, pull up a chair. This conversation is a beautiful reminder that before you ever spoke a prayer to Jesus, He had already prayed for those who would believe in Him.
You belong at the table.
Reflection Question: If Jesus prayed for my protection, unity, and relationship with the Father, how should that change the way I live, love others, and approach God in prayer?
