Speaker 1: Now, back to Dirty Work. Adam Copeland and Derek Papa on KNBR 104.5 and 680 AM.
00:00:10
Speaker 2: The Sports Leader.
00:00:15
Speaker 3: Dirty Work on a Tuesday afternoon.
00:00:17
Speaker 4: Adam Copeland, D-Pop, Danny Dunn, and it is 420 to those who celebrate.
00:00:21
Speaker 3: 9256 out of the Golden State Lumber and Showroom text line says, if you did some quick research on the origins of hamburgers, it's pretty national sandwich that's turned into a debate about hamburgers being a sandwich.
00:00:31
Speaker 2: Lay it on me.
00:00:32
Speaker 3: You'll see they were originally called hamburger steak sandwiches circa 1894. The hamburger steak originated in Hamburg, Germany. Also, if you look up the definition of sandwich in Webster's Dictionary, you'll see that it's defined as a filling between bread or a split bun, which includes a hamburger patty inside a bun, as well as a hot dog inside a bun. That's wrong, no. You can have your own opinion, but by definition, hamburgers are sandwiches.
00:00:57
Speaker 2: I have my own opinion on this. I'm not going to change, okay? It is what it is.
00:01:02
Speaker 5: I think when you look at a burger, it's a burger. A sandwich is something entirely different. So you can tell me all the origins and everything like that. I just saw a commercial on TV in our studio talking about McDonald's burgers.
00:01:14
Speaker 2: Never once does it say sandwich. Case closed.
00:01:19
Speaker 3: What about when you go to a fast food place and you go to order and then it says, like, do you want the meal or the sandwich only?
00:01:27
Speaker 2: Who says that?
00:01:28
Speaker 4: It says it on the board.
00:01:29
Speaker 5: Well, you know what's... They don't know what the hell they're doing at these establishments.
00:01:33
Speaker 4: They don't know?
00:01:34
Speaker 2: Yeah, they don't know.
00:01:35
Speaker 4: They're in the burger business, dude. They're in the burger biz.
00:01:38
Speaker 5: I'm just saying, Ray Kroc said in The Founder, it was always a burger, not a sandwich. If he did say sandwich, that's not good for my case.
00:01:44
Speaker 3: 510 says, girlfriend, what are you and your friends even talking about? Boyfriend, not much, just normal stuff. Meanwhile, dude's angrily talking. Mark, you're an idiot if you think a burger isn't a sandwich.
00:01:54
Speaker 4: I like that, dude.
00:01:55
Speaker 2: Women talk about this, too.
00:01:56
Speaker 4: Yeah. Somebody else here said.
00:01:59
Speaker 3: To enforce his quote, you can find that in the movie Founder.
00:02:02
Speaker 4: Mm-hmm, just another ploy from Derek to get us back to the movies. Derek, you're trying to.
00:02:07
Speaker 2: It's not in the theaters, though. It's available on Netflix.
00:02:09
Speaker 4: Derek's waiting for the re-release, dude. We do it each and every week.
00:02:12
Speaker 3: Sometimes it's a homeless guy with his pants at his ankles standing by a middle school that hands me the NBA grab bag. It's a big old potato sack-looking thing. Two words and an acronym, or it's an initialism, and we call it the NBA grab bag.
00:02:23
Speaker 2: Time now for the NBA Grab Bag. NBA Grab Bag. Be cool, my babies. It's time for a little NBA Grab Bag. And where else will we start then? The WNBA.
00:02:34
Speaker 5: Game 7 of the WNBA Finals drew 3.3 million viewers on Saturday on the USA Network, CNBC, and Peacock. Game 7 is the most watched WNBA game since 1997.
00:02:47
Speaker 2: Well done, Valkyries.
00:02:49
Speaker 4: Yeah, well done. Are we okay with the WNBA being in the NBA Grab Bag?
00:02:53
Speaker 2: Why not?
00:02:54
Speaker 4: Danny, can we get a ruling on this?
00:02:56
Speaker 6: We allowed it last week.
00:02:57
Speaker 4: I know we allowed it, but are we okay with it?
00:02:59
Speaker 2: Well, we never do NBA stories.
00:03:00
Speaker 4: Just like we know a hamburger is a sandwich, but we know what we're looking at. It's a burger.
00:03:03
Speaker 2: Right.
00:03:04
Speaker 7: We'll allow it.
00:03:04
Speaker 2: Yeah, everything's allowed in the NBA grab bag.
00:03:06
Speaker 4: Except for the NBA.
00:03:07
Speaker 2: Yeah, but we're doing WNBA.
00:03:08
Speaker 7: All right.
00:03:09
Speaker 5: By the way, Copes, a great story from Finals MVP Gabby Williams after her 30-point performance. Gabby Williams says Michael Jordan texted her To congratulate her on winning a championship, Jordan told Williams to stay hungry, maybe for burgers or sandwiches.
00:03:23
Speaker 2: She responded, I've never been hungrier.
00:03:24
Speaker 4: How about that, dude?
00:03:25
Speaker 2: That's awesome for Michael Jordan.
00:03:26
Speaker 3: She gets a text from Michael Jordan that says, stay hungry, congratulating her for her NBA title.
00:03:32
Speaker 4: That's pretty cool.
00:03:32
Speaker 2: Now, we have to ask.
00:03:33
Speaker 4: Did she make Michael some money? Yeah, exactly. Yeah, probably, dude. I think the only way Michael sent in that text is he wants some coin on that.
00:03:38
Speaker 2: He's like, hell yeah, dude.
00:03:39
Speaker 4: Adam in seven sniped it.
00:03:40
Speaker 7: Perfect.
00:03:41
Speaker 2: No, move it on the NBA grab bag.
00:03:44
Speaker 4: NBA grab bag.
00:03:46
Speaker 5: Maybe some optimism for baseball this season. Jeff Passan reported today Major League Baseball proposed postponing the implementation of a salary cap until the 2028 season while still putting into place the other elements of its labor offer for 2027. citing the difficulty of teams navigating free agency with the unknown.
00:04:06
Speaker 2: Of a possible strike.
00:04:07
Speaker 5: So basically, let's postpone the salary cap to 2028. All those problems will still be there, but let's just play ball this year.
00:04:14
Speaker 4: Let's kick the can down the road? Basically. How do the players feel about this?
00:04:18
Speaker 2: We'll find out. I don't think this is going to solve all the problems. Would you be willing to.
00:04:21
Speaker 3: Lose baseball for an entire season if it resulted in a healthier sport?
00:04:26
Speaker 4: How do you determine health of your sport? Well, yeah. Is what it comes down to.
00:04:29
Speaker 5: And, like, where do you come down on this? Because, like, I think you and I talked about it a couple weeks ago. Like, I don't think there should be a salary cap. In the end, the players feel that way. So, whether it's in 2027 or in 2028, the players are not changing their minds.
00:04:39
Speaker 7: No.
00:04:39
Speaker 3: And, again, I don't think the cap is coming. But, again, you can't have a salary cap unless you have a salary floor.
00:04:44
Speaker 7: Right.
00:04:44
Speaker 4: I just, I can't imagine that's happening.
00:04:45
Speaker 5: So just because the owners say, let's just think about this in the future. I think some players would be like, well, you can do whatever you want, but we're still going to complain about this.
00:04:52
Speaker 2: So I don't know if it's going to solve anything.
00:04:54
Speaker 5: I'm not sure. I, you know, maybe there's some hope that we just like have baseball and we're worried about it later.
00:05:00
Speaker 4: But like.
00:05:00
Speaker 2: Doesn't solve the problem by any means.
00:05:02
Speaker 4: No, no. And hope is not a strategy. I can't imagine this is going the right direction anyway.
00:05:06
Speaker 2: I don't think so. Moving on the NBA grab bag.
00:05:08
Speaker 4: NBA grab bag.
00:05:09
Speaker 5: The contemporary baseball era ballot is released. The managers include Dusty Baker, Bruce Bochy, Lou Piniella, and Joe Maddon. The executives include Sandy Alderson, Brian Sabian, Ted Turner, and Bill White. The election is on Sunday, December 6th, and Dusty Baker and Bruce Bochy are the heavy favorites to get voted in.
00:05:28
Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I think Sabian deserves to go in at some point. Without question, he was the architect of three World Series teams. I think he absolutely will go in at some point. I mean, we know Bochy's going in. He's got four World Series titles. He's got a pennant in each. He's got four pennants in the National League. Andy won a pennant in the American League in that World Series with the Rangers. One of the greatest managers of all time. Dusty Baker, same thing. One of the greatest managers ever. Three-time manager of the.
00:05:54
Speaker 6: Year, I think.
00:05:54
Speaker 4: Dusty Baker won.
00:05:55
Speaker 2: Sounds right.
00:05:56
Speaker 3: He went to the playoffs with every team he ever managed. Giants, the Cubs, the Reds, the Astros, the Nationals. He took all of them to the postseason.
00:06:06
Speaker 6: Yeah.
00:06:06
Speaker 3: He got fired from the Nationals after like back-to-back 90-something win season.
00:06:09
Speaker 4: 97 win season, they fired him.
00:06:11
Speaker 5: Right.
00:06:11
Speaker 4: Something like that.
00:06:14
Speaker 3: I like they should both absolutely go in. I'd love to see them going together. That would be really, really cool for us.
00:06:18
Speaker 8: That would be very cool.
00:06:19
Speaker 2: That would be very cool.
00:06:19
Speaker 3: Our two favorite managers in the modern era go into the Hall of Fame and both absolutely deserving.
00:06:24
Speaker 4: Who had the better career? Is it simply Boach because of the World Series wins?
00:06:27
Speaker 2: I think you have to say Boach.
00:06:28
Speaker 3: It's because Dusty's longevity and how he did it with five different teams is incredible.
00:06:33
Speaker 1: No.
00:06:33
Speaker 3: And he did get the ring finally, but he only had two. He only went to two World Series ever. Went to the 1-0-2 with the Giants and then the Astros when he won it.
00:06:40
Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, he went to different teams and bounced around a little bit.
00:06:43
Speaker 4: He actually might have gone to one with the Astros and lost it too, didn't he?
00:06:46
Speaker 2: Yes, against the Braves.
00:06:47
Speaker 4: So he might have won three pennants. Yeah.
00:06:49
Speaker 5: I mean, regardless, when we talk to former players, Sean Estes, Rich Aurelio, they always talk about the impact that Dusty had on them and, of course, what Barry Bonds has to say about him.
00:06:55
Speaker 2: So it'd be really cool if they went in together.
00:06:57
Speaker 5: I think Sabian's got to wait a little bit, but I think we're looking at next summer or this summer, we're looking at Boach, Dusty, and Buster all going in So it might be a giant celebration at Cooperstown.
00:07:10
Speaker 4: Yeah, that'd be pretty cool.
00:07:11
Speaker 3: 6-5 versus Dusty shouldn't go in simply for pulling Russ in Game 6 of 0-2.
00:07:14
Speaker 2: Oh, come on, stop.
00:07:15
Speaker 4: Come on, bro.
00:07:16
Speaker 7: Come on.
00:07:16
Speaker 2: That's ridiculous. Moving on to the NBA grab bag.
00:07:19
Speaker 4: NBA grab bag!
00:07:20
Speaker 2: Wide receiver Brandon Ayuk, remember him, kids?
00:07:23
Speaker 5: Has hired Drew Rosenhaus for representation, and the agent said that he is working on getting him back to work and play in the NFL. Copes, what do you hope for the young man as he gets his football career together?
00:07:36
Speaker 1: Um.
00:07:39
Speaker 4: I don't know.
00:07:40
Speaker 3: It's weird because, like, I don't have the disdain for Brandon Ayuk that 49er fans seem to have.
00:07:46
Speaker 9: Oh, yeah.
00:07:46
Speaker 3: I'm annoyed by the story, but, like, football fans are a different beast. And football fans, I don't get angry like this about athletes or players or teams. Like, I get upset about things going on with the organization, but the Giants is the one that affects me the most personally because I care about it so much.
00:07:59
Speaker 4: I care about the 49ers.
00:08:00
Speaker 3: I also think the Niners have been one of the best organizations in football, and people are going to get upset about everything. You can't make everybody happy, especially football fans. People are going to be unreasonable. I don't hate Brandon Ayuk the way people hate him. I don't really get what happened, and nobody really does, which is why the disdain is so weird. Kyle and John don't want anything to do with him, and rightly so, based on how things have played out. I hope that if he's okay, and I know people have tried to diagnose him from afar based on his videos. I hate doing that stuff. You know I don't like to psychoanalyze stuff. I hope he ends up somewhere. I hope he can continue to play. Some people are saying he got his money. Don't let him play again.
00:08:35
Speaker 4: I don't care. I didn't do anything wrong.
00:08:37
Speaker 3: Except being a terrible teammate and seemingly threw so much more of his career away than he ever had to.
00:08:45
Speaker 4: Because of whatever attitude or problems he had with the Niners.
00:08:48
Speaker 3: So I guess my hopes for him, I don't really have any good riddance. And if he's going to go play somewhere else, more power to you.
00:08:55
Speaker 5: Well, I don't think it's happening this year. I think that the Niners just hoping that someone would be willing to trade for him at this point, but that's not going to happen. And I think that Drew Rosenhaus will work his magic where he's like, guys, you aren't using him. Stop holding my client hostage. I think eventually Ray Naik will get his release, but he's not playing football this season.
00:09:11
Speaker 2: I highly doubt that.
00:09:11
Speaker 4: No, I don't think so either.
00:09:12
Speaker 2: Moving on the NBA grab bag.
00:09:14
Speaker 4: NBA grab bag.
00:09:15
Speaker 2: A little NBA copes, but it's not an NBA story really.
00:09:18
Speaker 5: Listen up.
00:09:19
Speaker 2: The Philadelphia 76ers are red hot.
00:09:21
Speaker 4: I don't want to hear that.
00:09:21
Speaker 2: With a four-game win streak and a 7-1 record.
00:09:24
Speaker 5: Last night in their win over the Chicago Bulls, LeBron James fell into the crowd and spilled a cup of wine. LeBron was offered the rest of the beverage by the fan, and he obliged.
00:09:33
Speaker 9: Why?
00:09:34
Speaker 2: He took a sip and ran back on the court.
00:09:36
Speaker 3: Wait, the fan offered him a glass of wine that he spilled?
00:09:39
Speaker 5: Yes.
00:09:39
Speaker 2: Can you remember a player ever drinking alcohol during a game?
00:09:42
Speaker 4: I remember Mark Sanchez eating a hot dog during a game.
00:09:46
Speaker 2: I remember that, too. Who else ate during a game? It was Mark Sanchez. There's another one.
00:09:51
Speaker 4: There's, of course, that day that Mac Jones saw the dead body in L.A. last year.
00:09:54
Speaker 2: Oh, and he ate a banana, yeah.
00:09:55
Speaker 4: He scarfed those bananas because he was cramping on the bench. It's a banana game.
00:09:58
Speaker 5: I mean, I can't think of a time, like, I've always heard of, like, football players having beers in the locker room after that or baseball players.
00:10:03
Speaker 3: I want a Don Mattingly where he, like, goes over to try to catch a pop foul and then he, like, reads it and eats that kid's popcorn.
00:10:09
Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah.
00:10:10
Speaker 2: I've seen that stuff.
00:10:10
Speaker 5: And nowadays, like, when an NBA team wins a championship, it's like, ooh, champagne, I don't drink.
00:10:15
Speaker 2: Have you seen that?
00:10:17
Speaker 4: No, what do you mean?
00:10:17
Speaker 5: Like, all these young guys on the Thunder are two years ago were just like, oh, this is my first time drinking champagne.
00:10:21
Speaker 2: Ugh, this is disgusting. Like, a lot of kids don't drink anymore.
00:10:24
Speaker 4: Yeah, I smoke cigars. I like the teams now that are just ripping darts.
00:10:27
Speaker 1: That's fine.
00:10:27
Speaker 4: Like, the brewers are out there smoking cigarettes.
00:10:29
Speaker 7: Yeah.
00:10:30
Speaker 3: The potters came out, the brewers were all smoking cigarettes together in the batting cage before the game.
00:10:36
Speaker 4: They were all having one.
00:10:37
Speaker 2: I don't think I've ever.
00:10:38
Speaker 5: Seen, though, during a game, a guy drink alcohol and then go back and play, which is not the biggest deal.
00:10:43
Speaker 2: He took a sip of wine, not the end of the world, but interesting by LeBron to do that.
00:10:46
Speaker 3: 408 checks in and says, actually it's 805, says the fan didn't offer LeBron the wine, he took it.
00:10:52
Speaker 2: I don't think he just took it from him.
00:10:55
Speaker 4: Huh.
00:10:58
Speaker 2: We can analyze the video.
00:10:59
Speaker 4: I don't know.
00:11:00
Speaker 2: And we can also hear from the fan later on.
00:11:01
Speaker 4: You see Dave Portnoy trying to go full conspiracy on it?
00:11:04
Speaker 2: What'd he say?
00:11:06
Speaker 3: Dave Portnoy's like, you're going to tell me the NBA's going to allow this to happen? He's got a major problem that he's going to drink.
00:11:11
Speaker 7: During a game.
00:11:12
Speaker 4: A major problem. Yeah, Portnoy's out here being ridiculous, dude.
00:11:16
Speaker 2: I mean, whatever, dude.
00:11:17
Speaker 3: Ever since LeBron pretended to do his golf swing during that anthem, people have turned on him.
00:11:21
Speaker 7: Apparently.
00:11:21
Speaker 4: You see that?
00:11:22
Speaker 2: Yeah, who cares? Last one, the NBA grab bag.
00:11:26
Speaker 4: NBA grab bag.
00:11:27
Speaker 2: Some entertainment news.
00:11:28
Speaker 5: Even though Scream 7 was a hot piece of doggy doo-doo, there will be a Scream 8, and Sydney is back as Nev Campbell will return in her seventh appearance in the franchise.
00:11:41
Speaker 2: Danny, how are you feeling about this?
00:11:43
Speaker 5: Eh. Eh?
00:11:45
Speaker 6: I'm glad they're doing a Scream 8, but the last one didn't have me too hyped.
00:11:49
Speaker 7: No.
00:11:50
Speaker 2: It was pretty terrible.
00:11:51
Speaker 3: If you're Sidney, you just got to, what a life of hell this has been.
00:11:56
Speaker 1: I know.
00:11:56
Speaker 4: It's just everybody, you know, dies and they come back and they die again.
00:12:00
Speaker 2: And she moves on pretty quickly.
00:12:01
Speaker 3: You think that one guy's going to be Ghostface, turns out it's two, and then they just keep on coming.
00:12:05
Speaker 4: Eight movies now? I know. She's creeping up on Vin. And she's creeping up on Vin Diesel.
00:12:11
Speaker 5: Scream is like pretty much the Fast and Furious franchise when it comes to horror. And like she's lost Courtney Cox. Spoiler alert, I understand. But like, come on, you've seen the movies at this point. Courtney Cox.
00:12:20
Speaker 4: When does she go down?
00:12:21
Speaker 2: Four or five? She go down, Danny? She doesn't go down. Oh, never mind. Who lost her boyfriend?
00:12:28
Speaker 4: It's like, spoiler alert, something didn't happen.
00:12:30
Speaker 2: No, Dewey, David Arquette went down.
00:12:31
Speaker 4: Special Officer Doofy.
00:12:32
Speaker 10: Yeah.
00:12:33
Speaker 6: He went down in five.
00:12:34
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:12:34
Speaker 5: Yeah.
00:12:34
Speaker 4: And I was actually broken up.
00:12:36
Speaker 2: I was really broken up about that. And Danny's like, who cares? Doofy sucks.
00:12:39
Speaker 6: I didn't say that. But you know what this means, though?
00:12:42
Speaker 4: What's that mean?
00:12:43
Speaker 6: It means they're this much closer to going to space.
00:12:45
Speaker 4: That is true.
00:12:46
Speaker 2: Because Fast and Furious went to space.
00:12:48
Speaker 6: And then Derek, the hood.
00:12:49
Speaker 2: And then the hood.
00:12:50
Speaker 4: Then the hood.
00:12:51
Speaker 2: Scream in the hood.
00:12:52
Speaker 4: Yes. Go space killer, dude.
00:12:55
Speaker 2: Other entertainment news real quick.
00:12:57
Speaker 5: Justin Timberlake is set to release a four-part tell-all docuseries on Apple TV in December. One source says the series will feature... Janet Jackson discussing the infamous wardrobe malfunction that took place during the pair's performance of the 2004 Super Bowl that a young Derek Papa had binoculars for.
00:13:15
Speaker 3: One of the most incredible revelations about working with my partner Derek Papa is that he was at the Super Bowl with the wardrobe malfunction.
00:13:23
Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
00:13:24
Speaker 4: That you witnessed it.
00:13:25
Speaker 7: Oh, yeah.
00:13:25
Speaker 4: And that's the same one where what did Wanda Sykes say?
00:13:28
Speaker 2: Wanda Sykes told me.
00:13:28
Speaker 4: Derek saw Wanda Sykes.
00:13:29
Speaker 5: She didn't tell me this, but I overheard her say, like, man, I don't want Michael Jackson to go to jail.
00:13:33
Speaker 2: I just want his ass kicked.
00:13:35
Speaker 7: Her words.
00:13:37
Speaker 2: Wanda, I'm a big fan.
00:13:38
Speaker 4: And then what'd she say to you?
00:13:39
Speaker 2: She goes, oh, you're a fan of mine?
00:13:40
Speaker 4: You hear what I just said?
00:13:41
Speaker 2: Yeah, I was like, you hear what I just said? I was like, I did, and I laughed my ass off. She was promoting her new show, Wanda, on Fox.
00:13:47
Speaker 4: Oh, dude, aptly named.
00:13:48
Speaker 5: Yes.
00:13:49
Speaker 4: And that is your NBA Grab Bag for Tuesday, November.
00:13:51
Speaker 7: 3rd, 2026.
00:13:51
Speaker 2: I have one more.
00:13:51
Speaker 4: Oh, you have another one?
00:13:52
Speaker 2: It was all entertainment news.
00:13:53
Speaker 4: NBA Grab Bag!
00:13:54
Speaker 5: And finally, an announcement is expected soon on who will be the new actor to play James Bond. Rumor has it Dua Lipa's husband, Callum Turner, will be the new 007. Other actors in the running were Jake Loudon and Josh O'Connor.
00:14:10
Speaker 4: Wait, there's reports that Callum Turner?
00:14:13
Speaker 5: Callum Turner will be the new 007. Who are the other two that were cast? Some other British actors, Jake Loudon and Josh O'Connor.
00:14:20
Speaker 4: Oh, man. None of these guys sound like brothers.
00:14:22
Speaker 1: I know.
00:14:23
Speaker 2: Well, yeah. I mean, Idris Elba would have been cool.
00:14:26
Speaker 4: He's too old, though, now.
00:14:27
Speaker 2: Yeah, once upon a time, like 10 years ago.
00:14:29
Speaker 4: So Callum Turner's how old?
00:14:30
Speaker 2: I think he's... Like the age of you and me?
00:14:34
Speaker 9: 36.
00:14:34
Speaker 4: Yeah, I recognize this guy.
00:14:36
Speaker 2: I haven't seen him in a while.
00:14:37
Speaker 4: I haven't seen him in a while.
00:14:38
Speaker 2: I haven't seen him in tabloids with Dua Lipa.
00:14:40
Speaker 4: This guy could be Bond. Yeah, I'm good with that.
00:14:42
Speaker 7: All right.
00:14:43
Speaker 3: Pierce Brosnan approves Callum Turner as James Bond. He's, quote, so strong, and I'm, quote.
00:14:48
Speaker 4: Eager to see.
00:14:50
Speaker 2: Well, if Brosnan said it.
00:14:51
Speaker 4: Yeah, well, if Brosnan said it, too.
00:14:52
Speaker 2: Mamma mia, he's the new James Bond.
00:14:54
Speaker 3: Oh, he's in that movie One Night Only. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
00:14:58
Speaker 6: Yeah.
00:14:58
Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, I got him. I got it.
00:15:00
Speaker 2: You said you're signing off. You approve?
00:15:02
Speaker 4: I mean, we'll see, man.
00:15:03
Speaker 3: Again, kind of how I feel about the 24-team college football playoff.
00:15:08
Speaker 4: Yeah, why don't we see what happens? All right. You know what I mean?
00:15:11
Speaker 3: I don't hate on casting like that. Sometimes we're right, but, like, dude, I stopped being real upset about this stuff. When they cast Heath Ledger as the Joker, me and my dad and my brother were like, what are they doing?
00:15:20
Speaker 4: This guy? A Knight's Tale? 10 Things I Hate About You? This guy?
00:15:25
Speaker 2: And come on.
00:15:25
Speaker 4: Phenomenal. One of the greatest performances in any superhero movie ever. Oh, I forgot about that one.
00:15:29
Speaker 7: Yeah.
00:15:30
Speaker 3: I was like, we got Spider-Man from Brokeback Mountain? No, that's a Tobey Maguire. And that's your NBA grab bag. NBA grab bag for Tuesday, November 3rd, 2026. Guy Haberman is going to join us coming up at 4.50, talking some Niner football out of the bye week.
00:15:42
Speaker 4: We'll get Guy's thoughts on the great hamburger debate.
00:15:45
Speaker 3: We can get to more of your calls at 808-KNBR-415-808-5627. That's the number to call and the number to text. We will take a quick break. When we come on back, what do you want to get into here?
00:15:56
Speaker 2: Let me talk a little.
00:15:57
Speaker 4: Let me talk a little Brock Purdy MVP odds. You want to do that?
00:16:01
Speaker 7: Sure.
00:16:01
Speaker 3: What will Brock need to do to win MVP? Is he falling in those MVP odds? Now we're into the month of November. Time to get down to the nitty gritty. We'll do that next. Dirty work on a Tuesday. Guy Haberman at 450 on the Sports Leader.
00:16:14
Speaker 1: Now back to dirty work. Adam Copeland and Derek Papa in the KNBR Casino Matrix Progressive Jackpot Studios. Casino Matrix Progressive Jackpots are here.
00:16:26
Speaker 2: Where are you?
00:16:28
Speaker 1: Just drop in.
00:16:29
Speaker 2: Please play responsibly.
00:16:30
Speaker 1: Call 1-800-GAMBLER.
00:16:33
Speaker 10: Second down and goal, Seattle 1, high shotgun snap to Williams, flush from the pocket, runs to the side, throws on the run, on a dive, caught, first side of the end zone, touchdown! Luther Burton got it! The quarterback and receiver were parallel. And on the far side of the end zone, five yards deep, Burden hit the deck, caught the touchdown pass. And the Bears, on a 17-play drive, get a one-yard touchdown pass and go up on Seattle, 6-0 late first quarter.
00:17:06
Speaker 2: Hell yeah, Harlan. Dirty work on a Tuesday, Adam Copeland, Derek Papa, Dan Dunn.
00:17:11
Speaker 5: We'll be joined by Guy Haberman in about 10 minutes to talk about the bye week and the 49ers taking on the Red Hot Raiders at 4-4. But you heard the call from Kevin Harlan on Westwood 1 with the Bears beating the Seahawks last night. And I got to tell you, I was thoroughly impressed with the Bears last night.
00:17:29
Speaker 2: The way they're able to run.
00:17:29
Speaker 5: The football right now, the way that they play defense. I think Jeffrey Simmons... change that defensive line. And now they're playing, you know, like now that he's taking on double teams, you know, Montez Swick in sacks last night, Jeffrey Simmons pulling down Sam Donald to get a sack last night. So his, his impact was immediate and they're not done. It sounds like they might trade for wait for it. Everybody on the YouTube chat.
00:17:50
Speaker 2: Khalil Mac.
00:17:52
Speaker 5: So we'll see what happens with the bears, but I was thoroughly impressed with what they did last night.
00:17:55
Speaker 4: YouTube chat. Not like when you bring up Khalil.
00:17:57
Speaker 7: Yeah.
00:17:57
Speaker 2: Rock a new era. I thought I was talking about him way too much and I have to make rock a new era.
00:18:00
Speaker 7: Happy.
00:18:01
Speaker 4: Oh, You have to entertain Rocket New Era.
00:18:04
Speaker 7: Sure.
00:18:04
Speaker 4: That's your job. It doesn't matter if they're happy. Your job is to entertain them. You know what I mean?
00:18:08
Speaker 7: Anyway.
00:18:09
Speaker 4: If they're entertained, then we're happy.
00:18:10
Speaker 7: Sure.
00:18:10
Speaker 4: Would Khalil Mack entertain you?
00:18:13
Speaker 2: On the Niners?
00:18:15
Speaker 4: Here's a question.
00:18:16
Speaker 3: Does any team that gets Khalil Mack become the Super Bowl favorite out of the NFC in your mind?
00:18:21
Speaker 2: Yes, if he goes to the Niners or the Chicago Bears, you could say that's.
00:18:24
Speaker 4: A huge move. If he went to any of those teams, he'd be like.
00:18:26
Speaker 2: You know, the Seahawks' problem is not defense right now. No, it's not.
00:18:30
Speaker 4: It was last night.
00:18:31
Speaker 2: No, you know what?
00:18:33
Speaker 4: 34 points.
00:18:33
Speaker 5: It's not like Caleb torched him. But that's because they kept punting the football back to them. Like, your defense, they were lights out, honestly. Like, the game really changed... I think it was a third and manageable for the bears. I think it was a third and four, maybe. And they were pushed back because of a delay game. And you saw Mike McDonald, Mike McDonald on the sideline be like, can I decline this? Because we just stopped them. And then it was a third and nine. And then he throws a screen pass to Kalief Raymond. So their defense was playing pretty damn well. It was just the offense. Wasn't doing anything. So it's where the Seahawks I've heard rumors about Jonathan Taylor. I don't think they're trading for him. They were hoping that Quinn and Nelson would open things up with the offensive line. They'd be able to run the football a lot better. I think their problem is Brian Flurry, the guy from the 49ers, the tight end coach coming over, and he's not really creative with the play calls. It's just run the ball, run the ball, throw some screen passes, throw deep to JSN, try to throw to Cooper Cup or anybody else, but they can't get open right now. So I think it's the Seahawks. I still buy them as a team that's going to make the postseason.
00:19:31
Speaker 2: Are they contenders anymore? Not unless that offense changes. But I do. I think the Bears are.
00:19:37
Speaker 5: I think they're true contenders of what they did last night.
00:19:39
Speaker 2: It doesn't sound like they're done adding at the deadline either.
00:19:41
Speaker 3: So you view them as still, even though the discussion we were having earlier where I said based on what the Niners have to do to even have to play the Bears, I still have Seattle as a bigger threat.
00:19:49
Speaker 7: To the 49ers.
00:19:50
Speaker 3: Now, if you have to go through the Bears, of course, that's the biggest threat. But the biggest threat that the Bears pose right now to the Niners is claiming the number one seat.
00:19:58
Speaker 2: Right.
00:19:58
Speaker 5: But I think that it could be where I view them as the two best teams in the NFC. And yes, I'm not looking at the Vikings the same way. Like we're talking about people. I mean, I don't know if it's like a true story by any means. I haven't heard Kevin O'Connell say anything, but people talk about benching Kyler Murray.
00:20:13
Speaker 2: So who are you going to get?
00:20:14
Speaker 9: Or who, Wentz?
00:20:15
Speaker 2: People are like, trade for Kirk Cousins. But why would the Raiders do that? They're 4-4.
00:20:18
Speaker 5: I don't know if they're truly in it, but why would they trade him away? I know, well, you've got to trade him away. You have to make him happy before they start Mendoza.
00:20:25
Speaker 2: No, you don't.
00:20:26
Speaker 5: Kirk Cousins knows the deal right now. So I don't think things are changing quarterback-wise for the Minnesota Vikings. Their defense is their defense. They're pretty damn good. But I think Jeffrey Simmons changes that Chicago Bears defense.
00:20:39
Speaker 2: Well, the secondary for the Bears, not bad.
00:20:41
Speaker 5: You got Jalen Johnson, Tyreek Stevenson, who left JSN wide open. But JSN has that effect on cornerbacks. So, yeah, I think differently than the Chicago Bears. But coming into the season, I was like, yeah, I think that they're going to regress. I think that they have a bad defense.
00:20:54
Speaker 4: Do you care at all about the remaining schedule?
00:20:56
Speaker 2: For the Chicago Bears?
00:20:57
Speaker 5: Yeah.
00:20:57
Speaker 2: Of course I do.
00:20:58
Speaker 3: Like, where would you think it ranks in difficulty for the remainder of the year?
00:21:02
Speaker 4: Is it number one?
00:21:03
Speaker 3: It's the most difficult schedule remaining, and it's pretty legitimately difficult.
00:21:07
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:21:08
Speaker 3: So, like, we talk about there's some deceiving stuff when you look at, like, because the way they do this is by how many games you have left and what the winning percentage is by your upcoming opponents or of your upcoming.
00:21:17
Speaker 4: Opponents, correct?
00:21:18
Speaker 5: Right.
00:21:18
Speaker 4: So, like, their toughest, their easiest opponents for Manning are they still get Miami.
00:21:22
Speaker 7: Yeah.
00:21:22
Speaker 4: They get the Saints and they get the Bucs.
00:21:24
Speaker 7: Okay.
00:21:25
Speaker 2: Bucs next week on Sunday Night Football.
00:21:26
Speaker 7: Okay.
00:21:26
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:21:27
Speaker 4: The toughest opponents for Manning, they still have to play the Bills.
00:21:31
Speaker 7: Okay.
00:21:31
Speaker 4: They play the Vikings.
00:21:32
Speaker 9: Yeah.
00:21:32
Speaker 3: They play the Jags, still get the Lions twice, and they get the Packers. So they get everybody in their division, including Lions twice, plus Bills and Jags. So they do have a difficult schedule based on quality teams that really get at every one of those teams could and should be, or maybe in the postseason.
00:21:47
Speaker 5: Well, their last two wins are pretty quality wins. On Thursday night football to beat the New England Patriots and to go in Seattle and beat that team.
00:21:53
Speaker 4: Without question.
00:21:53
Speaker 5: It just seems to me like something's changing with them where a year ago, I don't know if they beat The Seattle Seahawks. I think if they met each other in the NFC Championship game, the Seahawks would just kill them. Where they were, they were fun a year ago, but they were kind of playing with their food a lot. They would come back in games. Caleb Williams was electric, not really accurate, but the defense was terrible. Like that game on Sunday Night Football with Guy Haberman going, Juwan Jennings scores! That was pretty incredible. But it was where they gave up 42 points in the process. This Bears defense is different.
00:22:26
Speaker 2: So, again, I think they may add with Khalil Mack.
00:22:29
Speaker 5: I think that Jeffrey Simmons brings them something different on their defensive line. Now you pair him up with Grady Jarrett in the middle there. Yeah, I think the Bears, they look like a team that have definitely grown this offseason. I know that maybe their skill set, their guys, they're kind of limited. Like, Khalif Raymond, I think, is a solid number three. But, you know, like, do you want to be a little bit better than that?
00:22:48
Speaker 2: But, like, I don't know. They score a ton of points.
00:22:50
Speaker 6: He's gone!
00:22:50
Speaker 4: That's pretty good.
00:22:54
Speaker 5: So, yes, it may be where the 49ers get the number one seed because they're not facing a harder schedule than the Bears.
00:23:00
Speaker 2: The Niners still have to face the Seahawks coming off a bye.
00:23:03
Speaker 3: Niners are ranked as the 25th. Their opponents have a 467 combined winning percentage. The Niners' most difficult games left are listed as Vikings, Chiefs, New York Giants, Rams.
00:23:13
Speaker 4: And Seahawks.
00:23:14
Speaker 7: Okay.
00:23:14
Speaker 5: And, again, the Niners, they get both of their NFC West opponents at home where they face the Rams and the Seahawks. The Seahawks, though, they're coming off a bye when the 49ers may have a bloodbath with the Minnesota Vikings and Mexico City. I just think that it might be where the Niners end up with the one seed. But if they played next week, I think the Bears would pose a big threat to the 49ers. I think it's where the Niners are obviously the best team in football and the best team in the NFC, but they are older and they are banged up a little bit. So youth is on the side of the Chicago Bears. There's also an experience there. But Ben Johnson, I mean, dude, he's amazing to me as a play caller right now. He is just so smart where the best defensive coordinators throw stuff at him, whether it's Mike Vrabel, not defensive coordinators, but defensive minds.
00:24:00
Speaker 2: Mike Vrabel last week, Mike McDonald yesterday.
00:24:02
Speaker 5: The only guy that has shut them down is Brian Flores week two. I'm not sure that Chicago doesn't win that game if Caleb Williams stayed healthy, but No, I'm thoroughly impressed with the Bears right now, but you have to give it to the 49ers right now.
00:24:14
Speaker 2: That could change, though, as the weeks progress here.
00:24:16
Speaker 3: Dirty work with you on a Tuesday afternoon. Adam Copeland, Depop, Danny Dunn with you. We will take a quick break. Guy Haberman will be on the call for the Niners and the Raiders this Sunday at Levi's Stadium. Guy always jokes. He always says, we'll see you down there on Sunday. He's saying it to me because he knows he will see me, but he says it to you jokingly. Are you actually coming down?
00:24:33
Speaker 2: Let's get to Guy.
00:24:34
Speaker 3: So the guy who doesn't claim to be a Raider fan anymore. One time we can get you down there is because the Raiders are coming to town?
00:24:42
Speaker 2: Not saying that. Let's just get to Guy Haberman. Might be a little announcement.
00:24:47
Speaker 4: Might be a little announcement, huh?
00:24:50
Speaker 3: Okay, a big announcement involving Derek Papa and the Niners and Raiders on Sunday, and we'll get it from Guy Haberman next.
00:24:58
Speaker 4: Nobody cares about this at all.
00:24:59
Speaker 2: An exclusive.
00:25:01
Speaker 4: Do you want the exclusive news?
00:25:02
Speaker 6: It's like Barbara Walters.
00:25:03
Speaker 3: You won't want to miss this massive news coming from Derek Papa next with Guy Haberman on the Sports Leader.
00:25:08
Speaker 2: He's gone!
00:25:11
Speaker 5: Juwan Jennings scores!
00:25:17
Speaker 1: Now back to dirty work with Copes and Depop on 104.5 FM and 680 AM, the sports leader.
00:25:26
Speaker 6: There's Jennings.
00:25:27
Speaker 2: He's got it. Inside the 20, the 10. He's gone.
00:25:32
Speaker 5: Juwan Jennings scores.
00:25:38
Speaker 2: That copes off guard. Dirty work on a Tuesday.
00:25:42
Speaker 5: Adam Copeland, Derek Papa, Danny Dunn. We are thrilled to be joined by 49ers broadcaster on their radio broadcast.
00:25:50
Speaker 2: It's Guy Aberman.
00:25:51
Speaker 4: What's up, Guy? What's up, Guy?
00:25:54
Speaker 7: I've never been more honored. Wow. That was amazing, Derek.
00:25:58
Speaker 9: I could barely tell the difference between the two.
00:26:03
Speaker 2: I think it was pretty good.
00:26:03
Speaker 7: Your voice didn't crack.
00:26:05
Speaker 2: No, no, no. It never does.
00:26:08
Speaker 5: Um, so guy, what are your takeaways from the bi-week when you're watching games on the couch?
00:26:15
Speaker 9: Well, I mean, I think the NFC is just, just hot right now. Um, which makes sense. There's still, you know, a long way to go. And I'm still at 10 games to go. You, you start six and oh, you six and one, you start looking at the math and all that stuff, but it's just, you know, it's still a math game, but it's too early to start, um, you know, putting on cruise control. I expected Monday night. to be a, a fun game. And I, I did enjoy watching it. Sometimes it wasn't because it was great, but I do think the bears are just, you know, when they got Jeffrey Simmons, I think we've talked about this a lot. Like I just look at all these teams as a one game playoff. What would your concerns be or which team would raise the most concerns or which team has the most things that can, that can get you.
00:26:59
Speaker 7: And you know, Seattle does.
00:27:02
Speaker 9: And if the Rams are there, then assume nothing is easy, no matter what their record is. But I think the Bears, because their head coach is at the top of the list right now, is guys who could match wits with Kyle Shanahan and their quarterback almost beached in dramatic fashion last year. And their defense now is better. And I think even without that, you still think they can score a lot of points and they can make dynamic plays and they're explosive and you don't want to have to go to their place and all that stuff. So, um, yeah, I loved, I loved watching the NFC and even going back to Thursday and.
00:27:38
Speaker 7: Watching the, uh, the Packers. And yeah, I just think the NFC and the line, the lines are rolling now. Like, and I don't think any less of the Vikings.
00:27:45
Speaker 9: I don't think they're a championship team, but I know, like I heard Collins were standing tonight. He thinks they are, but, um, you know, now the lion's got a little mojo. So that, that's, that's what I, that's what I thought this week.
00:27:56
Speaker 3: When you compare the bears and the 49ers, where do you think the Niners have the biggest advantage?
00:28:03
Speaker 9: Well, I mean, I think they're in for, for better or worse, like the quarterback's predictable in a way. Like I think their offense is predictable in a good way. I think the 49ers have a lot of advantages. I think the fact that they've been there before many times before, I never liked to write off if teams are talented and, you know, like sometimes team just teams went.
00:28:28
Speaker 1: A little early.
00:28:29
Speaker 9: I don't know that the bear, I don't think the bears think of this as early for them. I don't think it, and maybe it would feel like it was a little early for them if they were to do it.
00:28:37
Speaker 7: But you know, if the 49ers are.
00:28:39
Speaker 9: At full strength, then I just think there are, there are, there are more complete team of guys that have, that have kind of done it before and proven it and been in those biggest moments and, and proven that they can, they can, you know, do great.
00:28:51
Speaker 7: Things in big moments.
00:28:52
Speaker 9: So I, I mean, that's, I don't know how you quantify that copes, but I mean, I think that's gotta be at the, at the top of the list.
00:29:00
Speaker 7: And then I, I just, I do.
00:29:01
Speaker 9: Think like the Niners, everything I said about in the previous answer about the bears, notwithstanding, I do think the Niners offense, you know, if you took the collective of the Niners offense, plus the Niners defense and the same for the bears, you know, the Niners collective is better. But, you know, it's not about being better over 17 games. It's just like in that one game, Does the other team have something special? I do think the Bears have something special going.
00:29:28
Speaker 5: Talking to Guy Haberman on the UMA guest line. So the expectation is that the Niners will get some receivers back. Deebo Samuel, Mike Evans to Marcus Robinson this week. And there's a lot of talk about them adding a wide receiver. the trade deadline I think Jason Jason Jones of the Athletics says they're sniffing around there's rumors out there about Josh Downs or you know pie in the sky is Gary Wilson I think they should have defensive line I keep bringing up Khalil Mack but what do you think of the deadlines the most important need right now for them guy.
00:29:57
Speaker 7: Um, well, I, yeah, I I'm with you.
00:29:59
Speaker 9: Like, I don't think you're going to, I think the way you got a D line's a little more complicated now because they've gone from being a, a group that was spin to actually having depth.
00:30:08
Speaker 7: If Nick Bosa is healthy.
00:30:11
Speaker 9: Um, I think if you add Khalil Mack, he, he plugs right in, but if you didn't add anything else on this defensive line, I think like, I think nose tackle would probably feel like in some ways, uh, a bigger hole to.
00:30:23
Speaker 8: Plug than, um, then another edge rusher, but I mean, I would, I.
00:30:26
Speaker 7: Would take Khalil Mack and deal with it.
00:30:28
Speaker 9: If, if that were the opportunity I'm with you, like the idea of Gary Wilson sounds amazing. Max Crosby, that'd be great. But the idea of Gary Wilson sounds amazing. I thought that the Juwan Jennings story was pretty indicative of just where their heads at. Like that tells us that they're looking at kind of the backend of the roster receivers and, you know, maybe that means they'd also look at if there were a tight end who could catch a few passes, add a little depth there.
00:30:58
Speaker 7: Like they've lost, you know, they lost early at that position.
00:31:01
Speaker 9: It feels so long ago now that they lost Jake Tonjes. But, you know, maybe at that spot, it protects you just a little bit more. If there's a Kittle injury or a juice injury or they just miss a game or something, that'd be another spot. I mean, I do think they're pretty, if the team's healthy, they're pretty solid all around. I guess, you know, part of the Khalil Mack question would be, Like, let's talk again when we find out for sure if Nick Bosa plays this week.
00:31:25
Speaker 8: And that he gets through the game. You know, I think that.
00:31:30
Speaker 9: You almost have to look at it like, what would you be with Nick Bosa? And also, how do you protect yourself against if Nick Bosa can't play? And I kind of look at receiver the same way with Mike Evans. Like, let's see Mike Evans play this week. And where would you be with Mike Evans? You know, there wouldn't be a game– that you play. If you have Mike Evans, where you feel like you're not at least even at receiver, but if you don't have Mike Evans, it's a major loss. And that's why a guy who is, that's why like a big time guy who also has enough youth to be on your team for several more years is, is attractive, but you know, he's attractive to a lot of people, including his own team.
00:32:08
Speaker 5: I think Calvin Ridley's a name that people have thrown out there as well. So what'd you make of the whole Juwan Jennings thing where Jake Glazer reported that on Sunday, where I've been saying for a couple of weeks now, like I think it'd be stupid of the Minnesota Vikings to trade him to the 49ers because I mean, they're probably your biggest competition in the NFC. There's other teams, but I just think that's insane. And I'm not surprised that Juwan Jennings didn't want to go back.
00:32:31
Speaker 7: Why aren't you surprised?
00:32:32
Speaker 5: Because I think that he doesn't want to go back with his tail between his legs. Like, I think some guys view it as, I didn't get my money with that team, so why would I go back to help them? I think that even though he's not being used in Minnesota, he would rather just stick it out than having to go back and play for Kyle at this point.
00:32:47
Speaker 3: Eric's the guy who stands on business like Juwan, so I understand why that's the side he's on.
00:32:51
Speaker 7: You know what I mean? Yeah. No, you're right. That's true. Eric's the guy who stands on business. Yeah, right, yeah.
00:32:59
Speaker 9: You know, and also if you're him, I would say, like, I'm just looking at the snap counts from last year.
00:33:04
Speaker 7: He, uh, last week he played, um, uh, what? He's like second on the team and snaps every week, right? Minnesota. So it is, you know, like I do, it'd be kind of weird. Like you almost give him a hard time.
00:33:19
Speaker 9: Like, dude, you just left an undefeated team, which is what the situation was.
00:33:23
Speaker 7: You just left an undefeated team.
00:33:25
Speaker 1: Right.
00:33:25
Speaker 7: Willingly. You know, like it's, it's like, we always look at it through the Niners lens. Like, why wouldn't you want to come back here? It's like, I'm on an undefeated team. Why are you just assume I'm mad about everything all the time? You know? Yeah.
00:33:37
Speaker 4: Yeah.
00:33:38
Speaker 7: It would have been a weird, it would have been weird on a few fronts, I think.
00:33:40
Speaker 9: But I, you know, again, like I think the fact that, and also now he's got a pretty, you know, it's like what your team, you guys.
00:33:47
Speaker 7: Were going to let me go. You were going to let me do a FaceTime and just leave.
00:33:51
Speaker 1: What is that about?
00:33:52
Speaker 7: Yeah. So, yeah, maybe he's got something to prove to everybody.
00:33:57
Speaker 3: Yeah, he's also, you know, it's a one-year deal. He's playing for a contract. If he's number two in snap percentage or whatever every week, it probably benefits him more going into free agency again next year to get as much run as he can. And he may not get that if he comes to San Francisco. We're still waiting, Guy, on some of the other potential returns. You know, Demarcus Robinson. maybe back this week, but you're a guy who's always, you got a lot of sources. You're always talking about your sources, source, this source, that source awards. It's always, it's stuff you're always talking about. What are you hearing about Debo Samuel? Should we expect him back? You think this week is that, was that the general tone about his health going into the buy that he would be back afterwards?
00:34:35
Speaker 7: Yeah.
00:34:35
Speaker 9: It felt like the general tone with all these guys was, was that they'd all be back. And that almost feels too good to be true.
00:34:40
Speaker 4: So, I don't know.
00:34:42
Speaker 9: Like, you know, the guys that have been out longer, like the markets Robinson, I feel a little bit better about, I mean, it would make sense.
00:34:49
Speaker 7: I think the Debo's back this week. So, but I don't, I don't know, I'll have a better idea, get out there.
00:34:55
Speaker 8: Tomorrow and kind of see how the next few days guys on the field.
00:34:58
Speaker 9: But I would, I mean, that's, that's the way it feels, but it, at the same time, it would also be surprising if everybody comes back, if Evans and Bosa and Debo and Robinson, you know, like, and Siegel, you know, that's another one, hopefully up in stouts, doesn't have to miss the game and that the, the bi-week and, you know, basically not playing against it, not basically.
00:35:20
Speaker 7: Not playing against Atlanta. That's another one.
00:35:22
Speaker 9: But, um, you know, all those guys, his team at full strength is like, I heard Derek say in the last segment, the best team in the league.
00:35:28
Speaker 7: And, uh, it's, it's pretty incredible.
00:35:31
Speaker 9: They've done what they've done with, with all these injuries, but, um, I would also be a, I think a big shot in the arm if they can come off the buy and look like they're complete selves.
00:35:39
Speaker 2: Guy Hammerman, a big Source Awards guy.
00:35:41
Speaker 5: I mean, I don't know what side he was on between Bad Boy and Death Row in 95, but big Source Awards guy.
00:35:45
Speaker 4: Yeah, who are you rooting for, by the way, Guy?
00:35:47
Speaker 7: You're a West Coast guy. You think I'm going to say this?
00:35:49
Speaker 9: You think just because you guys think the dust settled that I'm just going to say that publicly where I.
00:35:54
Speaker 4: Stand or not? Fair enough. Knowing he's still got East Coast road trips this year, he's like, yeah, he's going to risk that, dude.
00:36:02
Speaker 5: Yeah, exactly.
00:36:03
Speaker 4: That's what we do in season. Fair enough.
00:36:04
Speaker 2: He doesn't want the beef.
00:36:05
Speaker 7: I mean, I'm going to take that to the grave.
00:36:09
Speaker 2: No, I get that.
00:36:10
Speaker 5: You know, the death row versus bad boy rivalry could be like how we view the 49ers and Raiders.
00:36:16
Speaker 4: Exactly, really.
00:36:17
Speaker 5: Yeah, so when you think about, you know, what used to be the Battle of the Bay guy in this matchup, what comes to mind?
00:36:24
Speaker 9: Colin Kaepernick and C.O. Moore yelling at each other walking into the tunnel.
00:36:27
Speaker 4: Yeah, I remember that.
00:36:28
Speaker 7: Yeah. That's the first.
00:36:32
Speaker 8: Thing that comes to mind just because I, you know, I think it was, it's one.
00:36:35
Speaker 7: Of the, was it the last time they played?
00:36:38
Speaker 2: No, they played an allegiance through just four years.
00:36:41
Speaker 7: That's right. Yeah.
00:36:41
Speaker 6: Yeah.
00:36:41
Speaker 7: The last time in the Bay area, the last time in the Bay area they.
00:36:43
Speaker 5: Played, well, no, there was the game. Remember Nick Mullen started on a Thursday night and George Kittle went off.
00:36:48
Speaker 4: Yeah, of course.
00:36:48
Speaker 7: I do think of that game. I do think of that game, Derek. I remember fondly. I remember fondly the game at the Coliseum. That's a, for whatever reason, I don't know.
00:36:59
Speaker 9: I don't know why I do, but I, that was a, I just remember watching those guys yelling at each other, going into the tunnel and just like everybody, like everybody was coming apart at the seams at that point.
00:37:08
Speaker 7: Like the seasons. Right.
00:37:10
Speaker 5: Um, Well, because that was like the first of a string of losses for the 49ers. Then that was a 2014 season. And then, then Harbaugh, of course, you know, left, but Harbaugh's last year.
00:37:18
Speaker 7: Yeah. Yeah.
00:37:19
Speaker 5: I want to say Kaepernick threw interception on the first play. I mean, I remember that game fondly.
00:37:23
Speaker 7: He did.
00:37:24
Speaker 4: That's right. I want to see, you know, the.
00:37:26
Speaker 9: First play is like what you practice. You're like the first play.
00:37:29
Speaker 4: I know. And he threw a pick on the first play.
00:37:31
Speaker 6: Yeah.
00:37:35
Speaker 5: Well, I mean like seriously for this matchup though, like it, I have a hard time viewing the Raiders.
00:37:39
Speaker 9: And by the way, Derek, Derek started interrupt. I mean like really it's funny. We, we, we joked about this in the off season. Like I think about your dad, I think about Greg, right? Like, I mean, I, you know, um, going there the last two years in the preseason and hearing them play highlights on the video board and, and like, you know, knowing that he called some of the greatest moments and was, uh, just the voice of some of moments of pain, but always, you know, just, just wonderfully sincere about it. And then for us to be in the Bay area, so lucky as to have him do the 49ers. I mean, it's pretty unique. It's, it's really special. And you know, I think over the years, there've been a lot of people, players, coaches, when the Raiders were in the Bay area, you're like, they just kind of, they go from one to the other.
00:38:28
Speaker 7: Cause I don't, I don't want to leave the Bay area.
00:38:30
Speaker 5: Right.
00:38:31
Speaker 9: And they're also just both such, you know, historically iconic franchises.
00:38:37
Speaker 7: That you do have a lot of that shared history among a variety of people.
00:38:41
Speaker 9: But I, I, you know, I thought, how could, how could his Raider touchdown call, how could.
00:38:47
Speaker 7: You match that or top that? And then, and then he did it with San Francisco. So, Um, I, you know, I, I, I think about him and I, that's why I was, there's supposed to be an announcement about you today. Derek, you teased an announcement of yourself.
00:39:04
Speaker 2: Well, every week.
00:39:05
Speaker 4: Yeah, he did. Stay tuned for a special announcement.
00:39:09
Speaker 2: Every week. You asked me, uh, I'll see you guys at the game. So, uh, I'll, I'll give you the floor here.
00:39:16
Speaker 7: Well, it's just, I'll see you at the game, Derek. Will I see you at the game?
00:39:20
Speaker 2: That's the plan. I'll see you at the game.
00:39:22
Speaker 4: This is not an announcement. What are you doing? This is the dumbest and worst announcement I've ever heard, dude.
00:39:26
Speaker 3: By the way, he's not even guaranteeing he's going because he told me he's like, maybe I got to go to a birthday party Saturday so we'll see how I feel on Sunday.
00:39:33
Speaker 2: I mean, you know the deal.
00:39:34
Speaker 5: At my age now, at 35 years old, if you're hungover, I mean, you're not going anywhere.
00:39:38
Speaker 2: So we'll see where I'm at.
00:39:39
Speaker 5: But the plan is to be at Levi's to watch what used to be the Battle of the Bay, the Raiders, the 49ers.
00:39:44
Speaker 7: Yes. Plan. Yeah, sure, sure. The plan is.
00:39:48
Speaker 9: quote-unquote, the plan is, is what somebody tells you right before you don't see them at the thing.
00:39:53
Speaker 4: Yeah, at the thing. Yeah, that's the plan. The plan is for me to go. So you don't believe me?
00:39:57
Speaker 7: No.
00:39:57
Speaker 4: I mean, if I had to bet money, Guy, I would wait. Definitely not. I'm going, like, 90% he's not coming. All right.
00:40:03
Speaker 7: Yeah, no chance. Like, is there– it rained this week, so, you know, anything that could stand in your way. getting to this game.
00:40:11
Speaker 4: It might still be wet out on Sunday.
00:40:13
Speaker 1: Yeah, it might be.
00:40:13
Speaker 2: It might be.
00:40:14
Speaker 5: And it's quite the trip out there. And we also got Patriots versus Packers in that window. But no, honestly, guy, for this matchup, for this matchup.
00:40:25
Speaker 4: It's dead serious, dude.
00:40:26
Speaker 2: No, seriously.
00:40:27
Speaker 7: Seriously. It's dead serious.
00:40:29
Speaker 2: No, I'm serious. It's a pretty good matchup.
00:40:30
Speaker 7: In that window.
00:40:31
Speaker 2: Yeah. Tom Brady's on the call.
00:40:35
Speaker 4: That's a 25 kick?
00:40:36
Speaker 2: Yeah, 25 kick.
00:40:36
Speaker 8: Yeah, right.
00:40:37
Speaker 2: Who's on this call, by the way, for Fox? Do we know, guy?
00:40:41
Speaker 8: This is, yeah, this is, hold on, I know the answer to this.
00:40:45
Speaker 7: This is, I think it's Kugler and would it be Moose Johnson?
00:40:52
Speaker 2: I think it's Moose Johnson, yeah, yeah.
00:40:54
Speaker 7: Yep, yep.
00:40:55
Speaker 6: All right, nice, nice.
00:40:57
Speaker 7: I think, yeah, yeah, go ahead.
00:41:00
Speaker 5: Well, I was just saying seriously for this matchup, though, like just watching the Raiders, you know, since the season started, the defense is not there. They can't run the football that Kirk Cousins is playing pretty damn good football right now. But if the 49ers blitz him, then he's going to get sacked all day long. So I think Brock Bowers is a really good player, but the Raiders secondary is putrid, honestly. So I think the Kyle Shanahan likes playing this team for his dad. I remember back in 2018, he was like, I don't consider this a rivalry because they were never, never really relevant in the Bay area. So I think this is a good landing spot for the 49ers after the bye week.
00:41:38
Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean, you know, you talk about this game like a month ago, it felt a little bit different, but then they lost three in a row and, you know, beat the Jets. I do think the one thing that stands out to me from, or I should say one thing that stands out from a matchup standpoint is that it got my attention when Dylan Loughby became the first player in the NFL to return a kickoff for.
00:41:58
Speaker 7: A touchdown last week against the Jets.
00:42:01
Speaker 9: And, you know, I think the 49ers came into this year thinking, I came into the year thinking special teams would be a major strength of theirs, not just not a, a negative, which is how we kind of thought about 49ers special teams for a long time. I think a lot of people are still scarred and think of 49ers special teams that way. Like they'd rather just don't return it, just catch it. Then like try and make a play.
00:42:25
Speaker 4: Right.
00:42:26
Speaker 9: And you know, and I thought this year, like there was a chance that that's how it would look. And Jacob Cowan returns up on it for a touchdown in the preseason and, you know, Eddie Pinero was so great last year and he, you know, he's not making every extra point and they're giving up big returns and they're not really doing anything explosive in their own right in the return game when they catch the ball, if they catch the ball. So like, I do think when, you know, when the game by 20 or 40 or.
00:42:57
Speaker 8: Three, you do want to come out of this game just.
00:43:02
Speaker 9: Feeling like you're not going to have all these questions about special teams answered in one week, but you just want to not be asking them every week. And it's the, you know, it's just the kind of game where you miss an extra point, you miss a field goal, you give up a kick for a touchdown, you muscle punt, but you just, you just can't do that stuff every week and expect to win. And you know, they have been, they have been, they won in Seattle with the muff. They, so it missed the extra point against the commanders and, and we're able to get the stop and it didn't come back to bite them at the end of the game. But, you know, I, I do think that's at the top of the list and then seeing the Raiders return a kick for a touchdown definitely gets your attention.
00:43:42
Speaker 7: Yeah.
00:43:43
Speaker 3: Talking to Guy Haberman on the UMA guest line. He'll be on the call Sunday nighters and Raiders kickoff.
00:43:49
Speaker 7: What's up? Oh, nothing. I was doing Derek. Yeah. Oh yeah. Yeah.
00:43:55
Speaker 4: Oh, you're, oh, you're mocking Derek.
00:43:56
Speaker 5: Uh, confirmation of what guy said yeah yeah uh all right.
00:44:02
Speaker 3: I had a question for you guys this has been a hot debate all day on the show dude callers texters everybody's checked in even andrew luck checked in when you talked to him about when we talked to him about this earlier it's national sandwich day which isn't like these national days they don't usually even make an impact on our show we don't usually get into this stuff but for some reason national sandwich day today has hit a nerve and people have that debate about whether or not a hot dog is a sandwich we did not have that debate Derek planted his flag early in the show and made a bold statement and will not come off of it saying that.
00:44:29
Speaker 4: A hamburger is not a sandwich. Where do you come down on this, Ken?
00:44:34
Speaker 9: Yeah, I couldn't agree more with Derek. Derek is absolutely right on the subject.
00:44:40
Speaker 2: Why the laughter, Jesus, in that statement?
00:44:44
Speaker 4: Good Lord. You don't sound genuine.
00:44:47
Speaker 7: Does Copes disagree?
00:44:49
Speaker 2: No, no, no, just the way you were saying is like Derek is right on that one.
00:44:52
Speaker 3: I feel like this guy. I'm like, okay, to me, when I said to Derek, I was like, okay, if you're wearing slacks or you're wearing jeans, they're both pants. I look at a sandwich as like the overarching, like the umbrella category, and then the hamburger falls under that because it's assembled the same way.
00:45:07
Speaker 4: That was my take.
00:45:10
Speaker 7: This is the over-litigation of society.
00:45:12
Speaker 2: Yes.
00:45:13
Speaker 7: You know in your soul that's BS, Copes.
00:45:16
Speaker 1: What?
00:45:17
Speaker 7: Just because the.
00:45:18
Speaker 9: Supreme Court in 19... The Supreme Court in 1870 had some ruling about sandwiches, and now we're all making some bad faith arguments about sandwiches.
00:45:27
Speaker 4: Oh, my God, dude. So when you go to a restaurant... When you go to a restaurant.
00:45:30
Speaker 7: And you order.
00:45:31
Speaker 2: Let the man finish, coach.
00:45:31
Speaker 3: And there's a sandwiches category, the burger doesn't fall under that.
00:45:35
Speaker 4: That's what you're telling me?
00:45:37
Speaker 7: It shouldn't. I mean, it definitely shouldn't.
00:45:39
Speaker 4: Oh, now it's about should and would.
00:45:41
Speaker 7: Oh, okay.
00:45:42
Speaker 4: That's about what's right.
00:45:42
Speaker 7: Now, if it's handheld... If it's handhelds.
00:45:46
Speaker 4: Then it belongs in that category. No, stop.
00:45:49
Speaker 9: If you say to the waitress, what kind of sandwiches do you have?
00:45:55
Speaker 11: The waitress doesn't say, we have turkey, we have pastrami, we also.
00:45:59
Speaker 7: Have a double bacon cheeseburger sandwich.
00:46:02
Speaker 2: I didn't.
00:46:03
Speaker 4: That's not. I agree.
00:46:05
Speaker 2: I agree. Let him finish, Kenny. Go ahead.
00:46:07
Speaker 4: Kenny?
00:46:09
Speaker 2: There's the whole clip on. Never mind.
00:46:10
Speaker 1: Go ahead.
00:46:12
Speaker 7: No, that's it.
00:46:13
Speaker 11: Like, we just– you know in your soul, you know, this is the– yeah, the over-litigation, the sports talk of the case.
00:46:21
Speaker 7: Everything's a debate. Embrace debate, Copes.
00:46:23
Speaker 6: Right.
00:46:24
Speaker 7: I stand with Derek on this. I mean, it's– You're.
00:46:26
Speaker 4: Entitled to your wrong opinion.
00:46:28
Speaker 3: I'm just saying, like, the– Nobody would ever ask for a sandwich, of course, and get a hamburger in return. I'm just saying, if we're being technical, they're both sandwiches. It's constructed the same way. Just as I would say, like, a burrito's not a sandwich. I'm not down with the idea, like, well, anything wrapped around it, like a taco.
00:46:47
Speaker 4: But a burger's a burger. A taco's not a sandwich.
00:46:48
Speaker 2: A sandwich is a sandwich.
00:46:49
Speaker 4: A hot dog's a hot dog. Yeah, a hot dog is a hot dog whether there's a bun or not.
00:46:52
Speaker 5: Look, Copes, the bottom line is we had a butcher call in and say that I was right, Andrew Luck said I was right, and now Guy.
00:46:58
Speaker 4: Heidemann is saying I'm right. No, stop, dude. No, man.
00:47:01
Speaker 7: No.
00:47:02
Speaker 4: Just because I'm a butcher, I don't know why he's the top of the.
00:47:04
Speaker 2: Well, he actually works with food.
00:47:05
Speaker 4: He doesn't even make sandwiches.
00:47:07
Speaker 2: And I do value the opinion of Andrew.
00:47:08
Speaker 7: He doesn't even make sandwiches.
00:47:09
Speaker 4: He doesn't even make sandwiches, dude. He's just chopping up meat. What, now this guy decides? All right, guy. Well, thanks for all that. We'll see you on... I'll see you Sunday. I'll see you Sunday, too. No, you won't.
00:47:21
Speaker 2: Yeah, well, come on.
00:47:22
Speaker 4: No chance.
00:47:23
Speaker 1: All right.
00:47:24
Speaker 7: Yeah, I will. Come on. Is it... Come on. Is it... How could you not believe him, Colton?
00:47:29
Speaker 2: I'll be there.
00:47:30
Speaker 4: Come on.
00:47:30
Speaker 7: I'll be there. When Derek says he might be somewhere, he might be there.
00:47:33
Speaker 2: I might be there.
00:47:34
Speaker 4: That's the plan, dude.
00:47:35
Speaker 7: Well, no.
00:47:35
Speaker 2: I'll look at the weather report and see how I feel and, you know.
00:47:39
Speaker 3: You're going to wake up after going to this birthday party, think about the drive to Levi's and be like, I got all the games are right here.
00:47:46
Speaker 2: It is tempting.
00:47:47
Speaker 9: I can't believe we have Raiders, Niners, and Tom Brady and Derek Papa won't be there.
00:47:54
Speaker 2: No, no, no Tom Brady.
00:47:55
Speaker 4: No, Moose.
00:47:57
Speaker 2: Yeah, Moose Johnson. I know.
00:47:58
Speaker 7: I'm saying I can't believe we're not going to have Tom.
00:48:00
Speaker 4: Oh, we don't get Tom.
00:48:02
Speaker 7: Tom Brady.
00:48:03
Speaker 5: Well, Tom made that decision a long time ago. Like, you're either going to be a broadcaster or an owner.
00:48:07
Speaker 2: Make up your mind, Tom.
00:48:09
Speaker 7: I really would have thought it. I thought it would have been fun to see Tom on this project.
00:48:12
Speaker 5: Of course.
00:48:13
Speaker 2: And you know what?
00:48:13
Speaker 9: It would have been the questions this week. What would Kyle have said to him this week?
00:48:17
Speaker 7: You know, all that stuff.
00:48:18
Speaker 5: No, it would have been really fun. But it is what it is.
00:48:20
Speaker 2: So, yeah. But I will see you, guy. Don't you worry.
00:48:26
Speaker 7: At the game. I don't think you finished your sentence.
00:48:29
Speaker 4: Oh, yeah, I'm sorry. At the game.
00:48:30
Speaker 2: At Levi's Stadium.
00:48:31
Speaker 7: All right.
00:48:31
Speaker 2: This Sunday. I'm feeling good.
00:48:33
Speaker 4: We'll see you on Sunday. We'll catch you later. Hey, everyone will be on the call Sunday.
00:48:36
Speaker 3: 105 kick from Levi's Stadium Niners and the Raiders. Where are you percentage-wise that you're going to be there?
00:48:43
Speaker 7: 75%. 75? Yeah. Okay.
00:48:44
Speaker 3: I said 90% chance you wouldn't go. I think I'm a little higher than that. I think it's closer to like, I'm more at like 30% you show.
00:48:52
Speaker 2: Really?
00:48:53
Speaker 4: Yeah. I don't know why you're coming. You don't even like the Raiders, you said.
00:48:57
Speaker 7: I don't know.
00:48:57
Speaker 2: Here's the question.
00:48:58
Speaker 4: Danny, is he wearing Raider gear? Are you coming in in colors?
00:49:01
Speaker 1: To the game?
00:49:02
Speaker 2: No, I'm not doing that.
00:49:03
Speaker 7: No?
00:49:03
Speaker 1: No.
00:49:03
Speaker 7: Why not?
00:49:04
Speaker 4: Are you scared?
00:49:05
Speaker 2: Am I scared? No, I have to have some professionalism.
00:49:08
Speaker 4: Danny, you think he's scared?
00:49:09
Speaker 6: I don't think he's scared, but you should have seen him earlier with the credential process.
00:49:14
Speaker 1: Why?
00:49:14
Speaker 6: He's already like, this is already too much.
00:49:17
Speaker 7: What?
00:49:17
Speaker 4: To get a credential from work for the game? It's not that.
00:49:20
Speaker 2: It's fine.
00:49:21
Speaker 4: It's fine. Tell me what you meant.
00:49:23
Speaker 2: You're giving too many details.
00:49:27
Speaker 4: Yeah.
00:49:27
Speaker 3: Derek Popple with us. Derek Popple with us. Adam Copeland, D-Pop. Danny Dunn with you on a Tuesday evening. Why don't we get into one of our favorite segments? We do it each and every week because when NFL and college coaches talk.
00:49:39
Speaker 4: We here at Dirty Work, we perk up. We like to listen.
00:49:42
Speaker 3: In a segment we like to call Coach Speak, and we'll do it next. Only here on the Sports Leader.
00:49:46
Speaker 2: No one in the right mind has ever done that.
00:49:49
Speaker 4: Let him finish, Kenny. And soap. They give you soap. Let him finish, Kenny.
