Lee Glass: What is going on? What's up?
Lincoln: Yeah, right here, man. Right here. Hey, let's let's let's jump in, man, right away on this Monday night game. The the Rams and the Bills, it was one of the it was one of the greatest games that I that that I've seen. It was it was exciting. Don't get me wrong, I was tired now. I was I was ready to go to sleep. But you know, I couldn't even I couldn't go to sleep because you know it was one of those exciting games. In the first half, I think it was kind of you know, they was kind of feeling each other out, and then it was just like an explosion. Like, I mean, just going back and forth. Josh Allen really didn't throw for that much yards. The defense was kind of keeping him in check. The running game was doing its thing. and you know, and and Josh Allen was using his legs. I hadn't seen him use his legs that much in a long time. and he he was able to get out there and use his legs. man, looking at this game, the back and forth of this game, I didn't know who was gonna win this game. I I was like, man, I this this this this is exciting. I don't know who's gonna win this game. Both of these teams going back and forth. And it's it's just the little mistakes, man. It's just the little mistakes. It's these little things that happen that that that you know we we we know now with the with the block kick, the partial block kick from the Rams, not only did the Rams kicker miss a field goal in the first half, then he had that one block. And we know as of today he was released. and Sean McVeigh does not play. That that's one
Lee Glass: No.
Lincoln: thing I can say about Sean McVeigh. He does not play. I mean, when they was interviewing him after the game, and he and he was like, you know, you know, while I'm you know I forgot the word what he used, but then he also said, I I I'm proud of the effort of our guys. I know somebody was getting released. I know somebody
Lee Glass: Yeah.
Lincoln: was getting released. I was like, somebody getting released. I could see the look on his face. The look on his face was One of disgust. He was trying to he was trying to hold it together, but it was it was disgust. And he couldn't wait to get in there and and and and and and but the the the the special teams has been an issue for the Rams. Special teams, I don't know what it is. I mean, y'all made changes, y'all did things, made changes in the offseason to improve the special teams, but for some reason. Where you guys
Lee Glass: Okay.
Lincoln: are getting bit is on the special teams. Devontae Adams doing his thing, Puka Nakura doing his thing, Matthew Stafford doing doing his thing, you know, the the running backs doing their thing. the defenders, hey, it it is what it is. They they they go out and they're playing their game and it and it's happening. Man, what a game. What a game. came down to the wire. And so I don't know, man. I that's that's all I gotta say about this. This was really, really An exciting game to watch. Lee, I know it didn't turn out the way you wanted it to turn out, or expected it to turn out, but it was it was one for the ages.
Lee Glass: Yeah, I don't have really I don't have much to say about this game. but to that note about Sean McVay, the postgame interview, he he did talk about the team, you know, his admiration for the team, how they gutted it out, the effort that they put in. But he did specifically say that the kicker lost us the game. He's he did say that. So That's what that's why it's really not a surprise that he did what he did. He doesn't normally call guys out. Even when last year, when our punt returner muffed the punt and caused us that playoff game against Seattle, he didn't call him out like that. Right. He's like, look, we had other opportunities to win this game, yada, yada, yada, such, such and such. But in this situation, I mean, that that was it was it's clear as day. That was the the critical point of emphasis of what caused us to lose the game. There was mistakes on both sides. You had fumbles on the build side, you had mis cues on our side, you had even a miss kick in the in the during the regulation game. But you know and and a lot a lot of people say, well, you know, the kick was blocked. Like what is the kicker supposed to do? Right? And I do get that part too. Like I thought about that. I'm like, look, what he he's kicking the ball. It was online. Because even though it was blocked, it was still going toward thro through the uprights. It was going in
Lincoln: It was going yeah. Yeah, yeah.
Lee Glass: that direction. So there's not much that he can do, but the grand scheme of it is when you look at field goal percentages, percentage for the entire league, Meavis is last. Right? He is 56% field goal percentage for the league. Dead last. So And that aspect, you know, you're the fall guy, he he's the one that's gotta go. But I think the whole kicking operation again, this is what happened last year. This happened last year against the Eagles. We jut and it was almost like deja vu, the same situation again. Okay. There's something going on with the kicking operation where guys are getting penetration and you know, getting their hands on the ball. they gotta fix this blocking, they gotta do something. And what's puzzling for me is that the Rams made changes during the offseason. We got a new offensive a new special teams coach, we got a new long snapper, we got guys that they brought in specifically for the special teams. And you would think that with all these changes, that they they I I they analyzed the situation, they found out what the critical point of emphasis were, and they made those changes to plug those holes. Obviously that's not the case. Because punt coverage is is poor, kick coverage is poor, the kicking game is poor. The only thing we really got going on for us, average wise, is the is the punting. We're okay with punting. Our punt hasn't been blocked yet. Okay, so they gotta I d I this might be, you know, the blind spot that Sean McVeigh has. This might be his kryptonite. You know, he does everything seemingly well except for this part of the you know, of of the coaching operation, but we're not gonna get anywhere near where we want to be if we don't get this fix. So Meavis, unfortunately, he had he had to go. not just because of that kick, but because of what, you know, what transpired before that again with the 56% field goal percentage. And outside of that, they still gotta make, they gotta make a lot more changes to fix all aspects of that special team unit.
Donald "Doc" Glass: To to to your point, they changed out the coach. They're getting the same kind of results though. part part of the Beavis, you know, getting released is I think on that blocked kick, his action towards the ball was a bit delayed. And that rhythm they're supposed to have on the snap to the ball getting kicked, that point one, point two seconds gives the penetration enough time to get there. To block it, right? Because it wasn't like I mean the guy got penetration, but it wasn't like he came through scot-free, but he still was able to get his fingers on there. So on on the Buffalo Bills side of things, nice win by them. Superman being Superman and running like his life dependent on it. And then I'm I'm watching the game and you know. Cook is doing great, and then all of a sudden this dude just dropping balls like he's carrying loaves of bread. And it's like, dude, what are you doing? Cause these ain't even hard punches. You're just dropping the ball. I think he's got like 11 fumbles since the beginning of last year, or something, some ridiculous number for a really good running back. So the Bills are gonna go this year by their offense. With Joe Brady as the head coach, I think he realizes, like, hey, the other coach should have realized this. This guy actually does. That the offense is the strength and the defense's job is to keep teams from scoring quickly so the Bills will just outscore the other team. You can't have them turnovers. So as good as as good as James Cook is, if he dropping that ball some more, coach is like, yeah, you gon' you gonna get some decreased carries or you may be sitting sitting on the bench, because we can't have that. it is nice to see Then OC become head coach, talk about, hey, this receiver who's got a lot of flack, i.e. Keon Coleman, we got faith in him. He's gonna start doing stuff and now he's starting to do stuff. I don't know what was going on last year within the Bills organization, but Joe Brady's a great offensive coordinator that bootleg to get into field goal range at the end of the game was a wonderful call. I know it's suck to see it on the other side, but a wonderful c play call. he has got a really good rhythm and the the Bills I do think this is the Bills best chance to win a Super Bowl in a long, long time. They may have had more talent, but I think in terms of how the play calling is and the construction and the camaraderie on the team, they're doing some really good stuff this year.
Lincoln: I'll tell you who not doing good stuff. That's the Philadelphia Eagles, man. It's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's it's nothing much I could say, man. I it's really nothing much I could say. The last three weeks in a row, last three weeks in a row has been boneheaded. The dumbest coaching calls for a coach that don't do nothing. Don't Don't do nothing on the offense or the defense. And and and and you still it's it's it's frustrating. It's frustrating because, you know, at the at for for all Jalen Hurts is trying to do, right? You don't have an O line, new new O line. You're trying to get these guys, Lane Johnson gone. You know, O line is is is is brand new. your first string, your second string, and your third string running back is out. So you don't have a running game. You don't have Devontae Smith. You got Dallas Goddard back, thank goodness. and that's it. Ain't nobody else. And for and for Jalen Hurts to to to I don't know, it don't even get me on the on the last three weeks in the second half. You can't even get a first down. You can't score, you can't do anything. It it's it's no no adjustments are being made. And would this would this really What this really reminds me of is that because Sean Mannion is a rookie play caller, that Sirianni is still has his hands in the call. He did this is not Sean Mannion's offense. This is Sirianni doing his thing all over again. And and something has to change, man. Something has to change because when you look at at the end of this game, Jalen Hurts takes you down, completes what he needs to do. The offense was inept, but he got you there. For one, run the clock, get down some more. For one, run it down. Let it run down. I mean, what what's the deal? You didn't do that. It kicked a field goal. You left eight seconds on the clock. Okay, eight seconds on the clock. You gotta have. Has situational awareness here. They have no timeouts. None. Kick the ball out the back of the end zone.
Lee Glass: Right.
Lincoln: They bring it out to what? 35, right? They probably gonna try to get one quick out to the to the sidelines and try to get something out to the sidelines real quick. That's gonna take about four seconds. Now you got one Hail Mary play that you gotta try and defend. Put your guys back there, bat the ball down, go home. But no, you already see the first part of the game. The dude ran the ball all the way back. You already know. You already know you got a weakness. Jeremiah Trotter gets kicked out of the game at the beginning. He's one of the biggest special special teams players. So when you see him
Lee Glass: He's a top gunner.
Lincoln: gone, Siriani, you gotta say, you know what? This is one of my better tacklers on special teams. Let me not do this. Let me kick this out of the back of the end zone and and let us defend. Our defense was doing good. They was gassed, but they they was doing what they was doing. I don't get it, man. It's just really frustrating. These last three. It was just like a You know, you celebrate and you're like, yeah, we we get we pull it out, man. We pull the win out and then you get your heart just ripped out of your chest. I I I
Lee Glass: I know the feeling.
Lincoln: I think, man, look, I I let me see. Where I was I I think I was driving. I was driving back. And man, let me tell you, it was hard for me to keep my hand on the steering wheel. But
Lee Glass: Mm-hmm.
Lincoln: I had my family in there. I had my family in there, man. I was like, I got my family in the car. I can't, you know. But let me tell you, boy, that that feeling right there, I couldn't listen to anything else. I didn't I didn't want to listen to I didn't nothing. I didn't even want to see no football. But anyway, Nick Siriani, I don't know what you do, but they gotta get him out of here, man. Because he he ain't really making it, he ain't doing.
Lee Glass: I yeah, w r remember going back what now two years links. I called this. I called it with Sirianni from two years ago. This is like you right
Lincoln: Yeah.
Lee Glass: right after y'all won the Super Bowl. That's like Sirianni's not that great. He's not that great. You can be a Super Bowl winning coach and still not be a good coach. Right? because of the pieces around you, not just on the field, but the coaching staff. But Siriani, man, I I don't understand it because I I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt. As well, because of all of the pieces you guys were missing, and for you guys to still be in that game, that that's commendable, right? But what separates the good coaches from the great coaches, even just the average coaches from the good coaches, is the situational awareness, being able to make those pivotal pivotable ch decisions at the right time, right, for the benefit of your team. And to your point, and you described it perfectly, right? Jeremiah Trotter, he gets knocked out from the from the from the first first play. Okay. He is your top gunner on
Lincoln: Yes.
Lee Glass: the special team. So you're missing that there's a chink in the armor. There's a there's a weak link now in the chain. And now you're in a position where you're about to kick the ball, eight seconds left or so, and they have no timeouts. To your point, kick the ball out, put them on the 35. Even if they make a completion, right? un unless all you gotta do is is protect the boundaries, protect the sidelines, force them in the middle of the field and tackle. That's it. That's it. He he can't he he's not gonna be able to make it to the end zone from, you know, 65, 75, 70 yards out, because he's gonna be thrown from behind the line of scrimmage. So yeah, it's it's it was it was a head scratcher and he does he did come out and he did take accountability, Sirianni. He did say, hey, it was on me, bad decision, but nobody's trying to hear that. No
Lincoln: Nobody trying to get
Lee Glass: one was trying. They they they they were they they they were interviewing Eagle fans, right? And Eagle fans like, look, get get him out of here. Because to your point,
Donald "Doc" Glass: Mario.
Lincoln: So you gotta go through.
Lee Glass: I still don't for and I and this is what I questioned all those years ago. I don't know what Siriani does. I don't know what it is he brings to the table. Right, that actually provides a level of consistency for the team to help you guys to be able to win year over year over year without being highly dependent on an A plus coordinator coming in to help him out. I don't know what he does.
Lincoln: Yeah. That's what he needs.
Lee Glass: Pick which
Donald "Doc" Glass: Yeah.
Lee Glass: side of the ball, if you're on whatever side of the ball you're on,
Donald "Doc" Glass: Found you.
Lee Glass: as a head coach, you shouldn't have to worry about that side. As as
Lincoln: Right.
Lee Glass: you you know, for as long as you're the head coach, right? With Seattle's coach, no one ever has to worry about the defense.
Lincoln: No, you got that.
Lee Glass: He got that. I don't Sierra I I'm I'm shocked to hear that he is still a like you you guys say he he was an offensive guy? Where? When? Don't believe it.
Lincoln: This this is the thing, real quick. This the thing. This dude came from. He didn't have that much more experience than what Sean Mannion had. And they and they I don't know what they was thinking when they hired him as head coach because he was a wide receivers coach for the Indianapolis Colts. That's it. That's the experience. That's the extent. He wasn't even calling the
Lee Glass: I have a question.
Lincoln: place.
Lee Glass: I got a question. Do you think some of this Well, not some of this. Well, we we gotta take we gotta take a look at how we on this, right? We gotta
Lincoln: Yes. Yeah.
Lee Glass: take a look at how we on this because I'm wondering if Howie feels like burnt from that whole Chip Kelly situation where he doesn't want a coach to come in that has a lot of credibil not really credibility, but but but but too much power behind him, right? Because you saw
Lincoln: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Too much power, yeah. Mm-hmm.
Lee Glass: how that what what happened with that debacle. So he's bringing in mate because I mean Doug Peterson, Siriani, like he's bringing in coaches that doesn't have as much clout so that he can
Lincoln: Mm-hmm.
Lee Glass: still control what's going on
Lincoln: Yeah.
Lee Glass: around the team.
Donald "Doc" Glass: No Ben Johnson's.
Lincoln: Yeah, though.
Lee Glass: Right, right, right.
Donald "Doc" Glass: No Ben Johnson's. Yeah.
Lincoln: No yeah.
Lee Glass: He isn't gonna bring anyone in that's gonna potentially overshadow him.
Donald "Doc" Glass: On the other side, I I guess the Jacksonville Jaguars are a good team for the last year and four or five games. I have not wanted to believe in the Jacksonville Jaguars. I I don't know why, but I gotta give Homan credit. They seem to just be doing enough to win, but they find ways to win. Kicker kicks the long field goal to win this one, but offense is looking good, defense is doing what it needs to do. They seem to be a legitimate team. I I ain't saying Super Bowl legitimate, but they're you you can't get lucky this many times in a row. There's actually something something tangible to it. So I gotta give them credit for that. a as for the the the debacle that Philadelphia Eagles. you know, darned if you do, darned if you don't, couple of weeks ago another team kicked the ball out the end zone, they end up losing the game. This time they don't kick the ball out the end zone. They end up losing the game. But again, it's situational football, understanding what's at play. And it still shocks me how many guys who make millions of dollars a year don't understand situational football. So
Lincoln: Yeah. It it it's sad, man. It's sad. and okay, so the I I I wanted to just talk about this real quick. I know this game has has has gone past since last week, but the Bucks came into the in into into a game that you know they had a backup quarterback. four. and You know, they they came into Dallas. Doc you in Dallas. You know, Dallas is you know, they they were on the after their win, they were on the Super Bowl train again. and and they were just supposed to come in and steamroll the Buccaneers. And with an undrafted free agent quarterback, they go and take care of the Dallas Cowboys. And then at at the end, Dak is walking through the tunnel and one of the employees shout out an
Lee Glass: Yeah. Embarrassing.
Lincoln: embarrassment embarrassing Hey look in in this game hey look now now you know
Donald "Doc" Glass: The the look, the look that gave that dude, the look that gave that dude was a boy, you lucky there's
Lincoln: Yeah.
Donald "Doc" Glass: a bunch of cameras here. Cause if there was no cameras here, we was gonna talk.
Lincoln: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, it it was it was it was definitely gonna be something. It's definitely gonna be something. but this is this
Lee Glass: man.
Donald "Doc" Glass: yeah.
Lincoln: is the thing though. This is the thing.
Lee Glass: Priceless.
Lincoln: I'm I'm I'm thinking I'm thinking and in this game Dak did not and you know you know me with Dak. It wasn't Dak's fault. It wasn't Dak's fault. I mean You know, even that last throw that he made to to to to the tight end, it bounced off his helmet. Right? It wasn't Dak's fault in this game. So I really can't blame Dak, you know, for for for you know the the downfall. They just don't have a defense and the defense can't stop anybody. and you know, you had that mishap at the end of the game with the with the with the tight end, the ball bouncing off his head. I mean what can you say?
Donald "Doc" Glass: But but that w that was the second turnover where the ball hit the dude in the hands and a pop up in the air, right? So yeah, you you had a defense that was giving up like 30 points a game last year. You got a new defensive coordinator coming in. I yeah, I know it's a backup quarterback. They ain't got no tape on him, but it's a backup undrafted rookie quarterback.
Lee Glass: Undrafted rookie quarterback, yeah.
Donald "Doc" Glass: Hey, they they scored 24 points. Including two two drives with with Dallas' offense where they turned the ball over. Tampa scores twenty-four points. Dallas supposed to have Gaudy. If the if Dallas' defense hold the team at 24 points, Dallas supposed to win that game. Dudes ain't holding on to the ball. So I don't know if you gotta get in more sure-handed offensive players. Yeah, stuff happens. It's football, but you can't be having that at home. against a team like Tampa Bay with the backup quarterback in and you just you give it you given the game away. Cause Dallas media was like, look, we supposed to win this game. The only way we gonna lose this game is if we shoot ourselves in the foot. And sure enough, with them turnovers. So so folk folk folks
Lee Glass: Insert gun and foot.
Donald "Doc" Glass: are besides themselves. I think Dallas just brought in a defensive analyst coach to help. the defensive coordinator out and they didn't do it with Zimmer and they didn't do it with Iberflus, but they're doing it this year. but I I don't wanna say it's panic,
Lincoln: Hmm. Yes.
Donald "Doc" Glass: but there is concern because they they brought in Joe Reporter and the defense still don't he didn't play much that game, but the defense don't seem better. So they're trying to get that defense solved to at least balance off and not put so much pressure on the offense.
Lee Glass: Yeah, I I think Jerry just I mean, all these moves he's making shows that he I I don't want to use the word incompetence, but he he doesn't know what he is what he's doing as a GM. He like because it's not the personnel. The personnel isn't the problem. You don't need to be bringing in more people. Right? You're you brought you you hired a guy, first time defensive coordinator, that came from a defense ran by a seasoned defensive coordinator, right? Vic Fangio. He came from the Bic Fangio defense and he was over one unit. A unit that had Cooper Dejean, Quineon, what's his name? Quineon Mitchell, right?
Donald "Doc" Glass: Mature. Yeah.
Lincoln: metal.
Lee Glass: And who's the other guy? was Blankenship led last year.
Lincoln: Yeah, read blanket chip.
Lee Glass: Right, and and and blankenship, right? So you you got all these like Dogs, right? At a in in in that room. Really good
Donald "Doc" Glass: Yeah. First second round do it. Yep.
Lee Glass: DBs, first and second round picks, and he's getting credit for that. Okay? And now you're bringing him into the Dallas Cowboys, America's team, and you're expecting him to exemplify some sort of wizardry on the defensive side. No. That that it it doesn't work that way. I don't care how articulate he might have sound in the in in the In the interview process, the fact of the matter is you should expect a lot of bumps along the road to you know in in in this situation. It there's no way this was gonna just start off right, you know, full tilt. So now that you have that and they have this going on, I do credit them now saying, hey, they they're sticking with him, they're not gonna panic and trying to make any changes. That's good, that's well, that's fine, but this is part of the course. Okay, so. Jerry trying to bring in new guys, that's not what's gonna fix it. You gotta get the scheme right. You gotta get this guy to figure out his his rhythm, how to call, when to call, switch situational awareness. We that that's a theme that keeps coming up this year, right? But he's young and and this is what's gonna
Lincoln: Yeah, he's on those.
Lee Glass: happen. He's young, this is what's gonna happen. And I think he got too much credit for the success of Vic Fangio and that defense last year.
Donald "Doc" Glass: I he he d he clearly doesn't have the horses in Dallas that he had in Philly. Right. And then how much of that is then the GM, if this is the guy you're bringing in, and this is the philosophy of the defense that he knows, you need to get some horses for him to then see if he can maximize those horses. Right? But you go get Jury Porter, Jeron Bland is still nursing an injury, he doesn't look like he used to look. And then the rest of the secondary, I take it back. Caleb Downs is good at safety. So you got two to two and a half decent guys in your nickel package. It's at least two holes, if not three, with Jeron Bland. And the strength of defense is supposed to be the secondary, that's a mismatch mismatch. Two, this is the fourth defensive coordinator they've had in four years. So if you got Dan Quinn, then Zimmer, then Iber Flus, and now this guy. What defense are philosophy does the team have? Cause you're keep on getting new players trying to strengthen something or shift something, like what's going on. And I think I do agree with you, Lee. The GM don't know what he's doing.
Lee Glass: Yeah. And and again, I I'm I'm and I'm gonna I'm gonna die on this hill. They don't need more horses. They got the horses. They got guys. Dallas does. They got guys. Duron Bland, that that that's a good point, right? I don't know if it's because he's hurt or not, but I know Duron Bland has not looked the same since Dan Quinn left.
Donald "Doc" Glass: Yeah.
Lee Glass: Okay. He was all world with Dan Quinn, and as Doc said, when they saw bringing in and rolling in more defensive coordinators, he has never been the same. Did he forget how to play football? I don't think so. I think guys coming in, they are not coaching to the strengths of the players that they got on that football team, especially on the defensive side. They're just not doing it.
Lincoln: That's it.
Donald "Doc" Glass: I'll give you that. Yeah.
Lincoln: That's that's that's that's definitely the truth. and when you Dan Quinn was there two years and created some sort of continuity and you know and and and you could start rolling with that. And after that it's been a year to year thing and and and you can't you can't you can't you can't get comfortable in a system like that. Especially like you say Lee if if if if you're not playing to the player's strengths and there's nothing you can do there. No, you can't expect miracles.
Donald "Doc" Glass: Yeah to Levi on to Lee's point, when Don Quinn was in was in Seattle, the the Legion of Boom and how the secondary was is very different than what the strength of the Atlanta Falcons was when he was the head coach. The horses were on offense, the defense was bend but don't break, chase the quarterback, try sack the quarterback, we should have the lead. And then he goes to Dallas, and it's a very different defense than what was in Seattle. Right. Guys are gambling more. They're trying to get pressure with D Micah Parsons. He's got He's got, you know, secondary guys making interceptions left, right, and center. Right. Not a physical defense like like legitaboom, but they're making plays. So to Lee's point, there
Lincoln: Yes.
Donald "Doc" Glass: are some coaches that see what they have and coach to the strengths of the players they have. And some guys got their scheme and you gonna f fit their scheme. Come hell or high water. So
Lee Glass: Hello High Water. Mm-hmm.
Lincoln: Yep, yeah. Yeah, well Know if you guys have seen this, but the Washington Commanders blunder at the end of that game was I who who who do you blame? Who do you blame on this? Did Jaden Daniels not have the call to to to to to take a knee or something or whatever it is to try and get this field goal you know lined up and try to get and and win the game? You know, what were they doing? I I still don't understand how you lose that game. I mean, not a loss, but a tie, I consider a loss. But anyway, you know, how how how does this game end up in a tie? the one thing I can say on the other side, Jameis Winston has been playing pretty solid. He's been playing
Lee Glass: Yeah.
Lincoln: pretty solid. I I think with Malik neighbors coming back, that's helped him out tremendously. you know, so he's been playing solid over there. So, you know, he he's he's he's Keeping the ship going. And, you know, he may be the starter for the rest of the year, I think. You know, if he continues to play like how he's playing and get more comfortable and keep improving. But Gayden Daniels, Dan Quinn, commanders, I I just don't get what happened at the end of that game. And quite frankly, I was happy, you know, that it ended in a tie. because I I, you know, I'll take the tie in the NFC East all day long. I I I I I definitely would take it. But I didn't understand what happened with that Daniel Quinn. Maybe you all know. I don't but I don't know.
Lee Glass: You you know, it it's funny you say that. You got a you got a division where you got two teams playing against each other, one team up with eight seconds left in the game, right? And then, you know, the other team playing against an undrafted rookie free agent,
Donald "Doc" Glass: Yeah.
Lee Glass: and none of them won. Right?
Lincoln: And nobody went.
Donald "Doc" Glass: Nobody win nobody win the whole division.
Lee Glass: No. No nobody
Lincoln: Yeah.
Lee Glass: won, right? But You know, but but but going to this game, man, who who do you blame? I I blame two people. I blame Jaden Daniels and I blame Dan Quinn. Okay. And and I blame the for two two completely different reasons. One, Jaden Daniel, you're the quarterback. And you want to say youth and inexperience, but this is now your third season. So there's you're a veteran. You're not a rookie.
Lincoln: Yeah, yeah. Yeah.
Lee Glass: You're veteran. You have to understand the situation of the game. You have to understand clock management. You have to understand, even if they're not telling it to you. Look, I only got this forty-five seconds left on the clock. Okay? And you're everyone's taking their time, getting to the line of scrimmage to snap this ball. By the time you snap the ball, there's 20 seconds or something like that. And you cannot take a knee. You cannot scramble and get tackled. You can't take a sack. You can't throw in the middle of the field. You either throw to the sideline or you throw the ball away.
Lincoln: What up?
Lee Glass: That's it. Because at this point, you're trying to wind the clock all the way down as much as you can. To get the kickoff. And you're within kicking range. So that's all you had to do. And he he didn't have the awareness to do it. And why I blame Dan Quinn is because you're not, he's not calling offensive plays. Right? You're the head coach. You, your sole purpose right now is clock management. That's all you got to do. You're listening to the players coming in, but you are the one that's aware of what's going on situationally and what's going on with the clock. Okay. And at some point as the head coach, I would think that you have the authority to say, hey guys, no, we're not doing that. Throw the ball away. Or do X that's gonna cause the clock to stop. Right? Or wait until there's like one second left on the time clock and spike the ball. Something, but he was just looking there like like he was dumbfounded too. So I think, you know, between those two pla those two p people, that's where that's where I would share the blame.
Donald "Doc" Glass: I I I love the quarterback position, so I'm gonna put just a little bit more on on Jaden Daniels. I I think if the head coach was an offense head coach, then most definitely that put a lot more burden on on on the head coach, but as a defensive guy. Anyway, you you can't make that blunder. You can't play sixty minutes and then what an extra ten minutes and be in position to you know potential game winning field goal and and and wet the bed. And everyone looking like what is what is going on. you need to be the leader of men and and and and get things going. So yeah, I don't I don't understand it that you don't know how to manage the clock and let let time expire. But For the NFC the NFC least, which I will call it this week, because no one no one pulled off a victory at all.
Lee Glass: One? No one won.
Donald "Doc" Glass: No one wants it. It's a f it's
Lincoln: What about you want?
Donald "Doc" Glass: up for grabs. It's up for grabs. So yeah.
Lincoln: Well, you know Thought that the Chicago Bears with Ben Johnson and you know all their prowess that they were going to just be blowing out teams. you know, based off of what based off of what I what I saw. but and I know these two coaches didn't like each other. They they don't like each other in Green Bay and and in Chicago and man. Chicago just get boathoused by Green Bay. I was not expecting that. Didn't pick Green Bay to win this game because I always thought Jordan Love was suspect. But, you know, they came out and they did their thing and, you know, came up with the win. Big game, big time win. You know, Chicago only scoring seven points. Ended up having to take Badget out of the game and put Case Keenum in the game. And so when is Caleb Williams coming back? That's the question that everybody's asking right now. you know, we we we've had this experiment with the backups and now let's try to get K let's try to get Caleb Williams back in this game. So, you know, I know Bears fans trying to get trying to figure out what's going on, how they lost to to Green Bay, but you know, I I don't know what the collapse was.
Lee Glass: It it's it's a rivalry. And and this is why I l I I I love this sport because I mean, it doesn't matter how high you think you are or how superior you think your team is, right? When you have a rivalry like this one, where the two teams they know each other so well, they play so often, they understand the way that you coach the personnel, they understand what you do, what your quirks are, what your tendencies are. if you go into that game lackadaisical or with a heightened sense of su superiority, like some of those bear players were doing, you know, of you know, some of the things that they were saying even before the game, then stuff like this is gonna happen. Stuff like this is gonna happen. So they they kind of you could tell they kind of rested on their laurels a little bit watching that game. You didn't see that that intensity. and on the Packers side, they were out for blood. Right. They're their their intensity would that was dialed all the way up and then and this is what this is what happens. Right. So, you know, good for the Packers. We, you know, the I I thought the Packers were were done, you know, and and now here it is. They're they're in the thick of it in this division. So now I'm like, okay, outside of the Vikings being five and right, Detroit Bears and and and the Packers, they all jocke in for position to You know, to to kind of keep nipping at the heels of the Vikings. But it's something to be said about this rivalry where, you know, like, you know, when you watch that movie and a Marvel movie and you're and you're waiting to, you know, for at the end to see, you know, the post-credit, like something, you know, the post-credit scenes, right? That's what it is with the Bears, the Packers waiting for that handshake at the end of the game. Right? I'm like, I'm watching
Donald "Doc" Glass: Yeah, yeah.
Lee Glass: the game and I'm just like I'm just I'm dialed at what what's gonna happen? What's gonna happen?
Donald "Doc" Glass: I want to it. Let's go out.
Lee Glass: Okay, okay, they were cautious. All right, all right, all right. But it I I I love it. You know, I I just this this is this is what football is about and this is why you can't really you don't know what to expect when these two teams play.
Donald "Doc" Glass: The fact that that head coach, as the first year head coach, was like F the Packers, right? I mind you. There's some bad blood from when he was the OC with Detroit. So there is familiarity for a whole bunch of years, right? But to kind of stoke that rivalry even more, yeah, he he may have forgotten he said that, but the the the Packers clearly, clearly, clearly haven't. I I think what was interesting was I wanna say the Packers like really like ate up time possession. Like I think it had like almost like eleven minutes in the first quarter. And so that the Bears offense never got into a groove because they were this cold as the Packers just ate up clock, right? And if that Bears offense doesn't get into a rhythm, i it's gonna start to labor. but yeah, co kud up kudos to the I can't be saying this. Kudos to the Packers for you know messing with that high octane offense that the Bears can't have. we will see when one, when Caleb Williams comes back and two, is he able to play in rhythm in the offense? Or is it still going to be the Superman syndrome running around and trying to make plays off script? so yeah, we will see.
Lincoln: And that that's one thing that I know a lot of people waiting on just trying to get Caleb Williams back in there. But at least they have a quarterback. Unlike the Atlanta Falcons, that you know, we thought they had a quarterback. We thought Penix was coming back in and and and and doing his thing and and moving the ball and and and and getting it going. We thought that until he gets hit in the ribs, we don't know if he's gonna be.
Lee Glass: I just wanna give it up for two of magic. I just
Donald "Doc" Glass: Mm-hmm.
Lee Glass: wanna give it up one time for two of magic, man.
Donald "Doc" Glass: Yeah.
Lincoln: my goodness. You can't you no no no no disappoint. You can't you cannot script it. You cannot
Lee Glass: I mean to cut you off links, but you don't disappo you don't disappoint. You don't disappoint. You don't disappoint
Lincoln: script this man. How in the world? How in the world do you not see? I I understand when you're a quarterback and you look in and you look at that one defender and you staring that defender right down and I mean you staring your receiver down and and you just don't see that defender. But come on, tour. You gotta be better than that, man. You gotta be better than that. And this is who you guys were relying on. This is who you brought in. There's so many other quarterbacks you could have brought in, and you brought in tour. You get what you get. You pay for what you get. Unfortunately, you pay for what you get. And and and it's not hopefully Penix can come back, wrap that wrap them ribs up, buddy, and get in there. Because I can see he did not want to come out of that game. He did not want to come because he knew.
Lee Glass: Let me tell you something.
Lincoln: He knew once he came out of the game if Tua did have some some good passes, but but guess what? Tua gave it right back to him with the with the interception and the in in the end zone to end the game. So he don't have nothing to worry
Lee Glass: We're magic.
Lincoln: about.
Lee Glass: No, no. And and the thing, so you know, Link, because we we in Atlanta, right? The collective dread, the sound that I heard, even in
Donald "Doc" Glass: Yeah.
Lee Glass: my own house when Tua came on that field, man. You could
Donald "Doc" Glass: Yeah.
Lee Glass: hear everyone just saying no, right?
Lincoln: No.
Lee Glass: And again, he he didn't disappoint. The mark, hey, the market is the market. The market is the market. That that that's his
Lincoln: It's a yep. It is what it is. Yep.
Lee Glass: saying. He This and and I don't have any shred of of sympathy for Tua. I don't because, you know, like I said, I'm I'm glad that that B Brian Flores is is getting his flowers and and and getting the the respect that he deserves as as a coach. I, you know, to a for him to and I'm gonna keep bringing this up, you know, try to throw him under the bus over things that were said when he was his coach because Brian Flores was just really telling him the truth. You're not that good. You're not that good. I wish I had the other guy, right? I mean, heaven forbid, what what would you have done if Bill Bill Parcells was your coach? You think Bill Parcells was saying, you know, nice flowery words to Phil Sims and and those guys? No. Right? He he was just telling you about yourself. And it's up to you as a player to to step up to the plate and prove him wrong. But you didn't do that. Right? You you got a coach that, you know, he he You know, he he kind of pet you down, made you feel warm and fuzzy, right? Said the things that you wanted to hear, you know, inflated your your confidence a little bit. And then when it was time for you to get your money, you got your money. Good for you. Kudos. But then now when you put the team on your shoulders, you can't you can't you can't shoulder the weight. And everybody sees you for what you are. So look, he's not a good quarterback. I don't know why they brought brought him in. I don't know why they they they you know put everything on him. potentially because there was no guarantee Penix was gonna come back when he did. Luckily he did come back. Otherwise they would be in even worse shape. And then when you do have a chance to come in and at least salvage the game or save the game for the team, you can't even do that. Can't even do that. Case Keenum did it.
Lincoln: Case Keenum did do it. Case Keenum did do it. Yep.
Donald "Doc" Glass: it the ageless wonder. The thirty-eight-year-old
Lee Glass: Skeen did it. Yeah.
Donald "Doc" Glass: ageless wonder. when you have a quarterback with threats at the wideout positions and two really good running backs, that puts the defense in the bind. When that quarterback goes out and another quarterback comes in who can't stretch the defense vertically. It jams everything up. And for you to not see that guy, or for him to trick you into thinking he was gonna go left and he turn and goes right, and you throw it it looks like you literally threw it right to him, as if you forgot he was not on your team or you thought you could throw through him or something. Yeah, that was a really poor, poor, poor throw. on on the flip side. The Baltimore Ravens are one of the more quiet four and one teams. they're putting up decent amount of points on offense. Lamar's playing well. Derrick Henry is now becoming an ageless wonder.
Lee Glass: Ridiculous.
Donald "Doc" Glass: yeah. They're having a little bit more of a passing attack, which is also interesting to see at times. and the defense don't just what the defense needs to do to for the team to win. But they're yep, they're four and one. And so,
Lincoln: Yes.
Donald "Doc" Glass: yeah, doing doing more with their new head coach. So
