ABOUT THIS EPISODE
Your website can be polished and still quietly leak leads. We see it all the time: great designers and remodelers doing strong work, but their site doesn’t show it clearly, doesn’t earn trust fast enough, or doesn’t tell visitors what to do next. So we break down five website upgrades for 2026 that make an immediate difference for the remodeling industry and design professionals who want better inquiries, better fit clients, and a stronger first impression.
We start with high quality photography, because your images are your credibility. We talk about why professional project photos change how homeowners judge your craftsmanship and taste, and what to do if you’re still shooting work yourself. Then we get practical about conversion: a clear call to action that tells people to book a consultation, submit a project form, or take the next step, instead of leaving them to guess. If you’ve ever wondered why traffic doesn’t turn into leads, this is often the missing piece.
From there, we dig into trust and visibility. We explain how to use social proof the right way, including linking out to authentic Google reviews or Houzz reviews, and why third party validation beats self promotion every time. We also make the SEO case for location specific pages and detailed project pages, where you describe materials, phases, and product choices so search engines and AI search can actually understand your work. Finally, we talk video marketing for your website, even simple Canva slideshows, to increase time on page and help people stop scrolling and start picturing themselves hiring you.
If you want the other five tips, we point you to where to find them. Subscribe, share the show with a design friend, and leave a review so more remodelers and designers can find us.

00:00:04.320 --> 00:00:12.640
Today, Jason is going to talk about the top 10 things design and modeling businesses need to know about their website.
00:00:13.279 --> 00:00:19.199
Welcome to the Designer Discussions podcast with Jason and Miriam.
00:00:19.600 --> 00:00:26.000
Tune in each week where we talk about marketing PR and business advice for design professionals.
00:00:27.600 --> 00:00:28.719
Thanks, Miriam.
00:00:28.879 --> 00:00:35.200
Today I'm going to talk about website tips for 2026 that will impact the remodeling industry.
00:00:35.439 --> 00:00:41.119
If you listen to the previous podcast where I talked about the top 10 tips, it was on social media.
00:00:41.280 --> 00:00:43.759
I'll have a link to that in the show notes.
00:00:43.920 --> 00:00:47.039
And just like with that episode, I'm going to go over five.
00:00:47.119 --> 00:00:53.520
And then if you want to get the other five, you have to go to the website and look at what the other five are.
00:00:53.759 --> 00:00:58.880
All of them you need to know, but I'm only talking about what I feel will help impact you now.
00:00:59.039 --> 00:01:02.560
So where I'm going to start, number one is photography.
00:01:02.719 --> 00:01:08.239
So you want to ensure that you have good photography, high quality photography on your website.
00:01:08.480 --> 00:01:19.599
Now, most design and remodeling professionals do do this, but there are some remodeling professionals out there that don't actually get high quality images.
00:01:20.000 --> 00:01:24.799
And that impacts how the end user views your business.
00:01:24.959 --> 00:01:34.000
Because if they don't see the type the high quality that they would want for their own house or their own building, then they may not select these.
00:01:34.159 --> 00:01:36.719
So having high quality imagery is important.
00:01:37.120 --> 00:01:43.040
And that heads back to hopefully you're hiring a professional photographer to take these images.
00:01:43.359 --> 00:01:54.640
If not, I would say that you need to either use a program to, if you take them on your own, you use a program to enhance the images so you can have it as high quality as possible.
00:01:54.879 --> 00:01:59.840
But I would suggest highly that you hire a photographer because that's what they're trained to do.
00:02:00.079 --> 00:02:03.680
They have the eye for what will be appealing to the end user.
00:02:03.760 --> 00:02:08.000
So making sure you have that strong photography on your site is important.
00:02:08.319 --> 00:02:08.639
Okay.
00:02:09.759 --> 00:02:17.520
Next, I'll talk about ensuring that you have a strong call to action, that you have to tell people what you want them to do.
00:02:17.680 --> 00:02:21.680
When they're on your site, they're going to see images, they're going to see content.
00:02:21.840 --> 00:02:24.879
They may see remodeling and design that they like.
00:02:25.039 --> 00:02:38.560
But if you don't then tell them that you want them to reach out for a consultation, you want to enter in your information here so you can submit for the project, whatever it is, having a call of action where you tell them exactly what you want them to do is important.
00:02:38.800 --> 00:02:40.800
Because oftentimes they'll head to a site.
00:02:49.439 --> 00:02:52.879
Or it didn't say fill out the form, download XYZ.
00:02:52.960 --> 00:02:54.080
It didn't have anything on it.
00:02:54.319 --> 00:03:01.199
So there was lost opportunities in that website because you didn't actually tell your end user what you want them to do.
00:03:01.439 --> 00:03:05.759
So having that call action is vital to having a successful website.
00:03:06.000 --> 00:03:06.319
Okay.
00:03:07.680 --> 00:03:12.800
Next, I would say what would be to showcase your social proof everywhere.
00:03:13.120 --> 00:03:23.199
On the majority of sites, you're going to see a lot of people say how great their design is, what they do, what they're differentiating pack three of some of the other designers, and you're going to talk about what you do.
00:03:23.439 --> 00:03:32.960
Having that third-party proof is vital because you want to have other homeowners or other businesses that have worked with you talk about the work that you did.
00:03:33.120 --> 00:03:36.159
So that's that social proof that you need to have.
00:03:36.400 --> 00:03:46.639
And a lot of our clients, we actually have a live link to the either the Google reviews, the house reviews, whatever it is, wherever you get your reviews at.
00:03:46.800 --> 00:03:54.400
Having that live link shows the end user that you care about authenticity and about what other people say.
00:03:54.719 --> 00:04:07.759
Like I said, you can say whatever you want on your own site, but having that third-party social proof is vital because it shows from other people how they feel about what you did and not just you hyping up your own business.
00:04:08.000 --> 00:04:08.319
Okay?
00:04:10.159 --> 00:04:16.079
Next, number four, I'm going to talk about location specific pages and project pages.
00:04:16.639 --> 00:04:29.199
One of the things that I see on a lot of websites in the Wamaling industry is they'll have, they'll have their projects on there, but they won't actually have a page that just explains what the project is.
00:04:29.680 --> 00:04:44.959
Because when you work on a project, there's a lot of areas, there's a lot of stages and phases of the project, whether it be the initial conversation, air down, demolition, heading to the showroom to get all the FFE, the Ramali project.
00:04:45.120 --> 00:04:47.680
That whole remote has a process.
00:04:47.920 --> 00:04:50.800
And on the project page, you can explain that.
00:04:50.959 --> 00:04:53.439
And that helps you in a number of ways.
00:04:53.680 --> 00:04:59.120
A, it helps you on the SEO side because you're explaining that project in detail.
00:04:59.199 --> 00:05:03.920
And a lot of the words you're going to use to explain it are go actually trigger a search.
00:05:04.079 --> 00:05:13.680
So it could be like the material you use, the appliances you use, those names, where there'd be like a Kenmore, where there'd be a Kohler, those could trigger a search.
00:05:14.000 --> 00:05:28.480
Also, by having a project page, you're going to have detailed information on the project, which can also trigger an AI search because how you answer the question could trigger AI to find that page and ultimately on your website.
00:05:28.720 --> 00:05:31.839
So having project ages on your site is important.
00:05:32.240 --> 00:05:38.319
Normally on a designer remodeling sites, they'll have a portfolio page where they have all these images.
00:05:38.560 --> 00:05:43.600
But if you click on it, it just blows up the image, but there's no detail on that actual project.
00:05:43.759 --> 00:05:45.839
That's where the project age helps you out.
00:05:45.920 --> 00:05:47.199
So having that is important.
00:05:47.519 --> 00:05:47.839
Okay.
00:05:48.639 --> 00:05:54.720
And then lastly, what I'm talking about here, because like I said, there are 10, but I'm only head over five right now.
00:05:54.879 --> 00:06:00.720
So what I'm going to head over now is integrating video into your website.
00:06:00.959 --> 00:06:04.639
Oftentimes out here, like, I don't want to be on video.
00:06:04.959 --> 00:06:07.040
That's not what you want to do, and that's okay.
00:06:07.199 --> 00:06:09.680
But there are other ways to create video.
00:06:09.839 --> 00:06:16.079
If you have Canva, you can easily do a slideshow, add music to it, and you have a video.
00:06:16.319 --> 00:06:23.680
You can video the process of what's happening in the project because that helps differentiate you from another designer down the street.
00:06:23.759 --> 00:06:30.560
And video is the best way for you to add in on social media, which we talked about last time.
00:06:30.800 --> 00:06:45.519
So having that video someplace on your site, it also draws a lot of attention from a search because all of the imagery, the video, music, that content on there, that's a lot what others may be looking for to search for you.
00:06:45.759 --> 00:06:54.720
And what also happens, it actually causes people when they're looking on your website to stop because now they're going to look at the video, play it.
00:06:54.879 --> 00:07:01.120
And one of the factors in SEO, which we'll talk about when I go over the SEO tactics, is time on page.
00:07:01.279 --> 00:07:04.240
And the longer they're on the page, the better.
00:07:04.480 --> 00:07:12.079
So video is a great way to have them stop, look, watch, learn more about what you do, what the services you offer, and all.
00:07:12.160 --> 00:07:17.920
So that's another great tip that is that you should now integrate into your website.
00:07:18.079 --> 00:07:20.720
So that's five that I want to talk about.
00:07:20.879 --> 00:07:25.199
Like I said, there are five more, but you have to head to the website to see what they are, okay?
00:07:25.439 --> 00:07:28.240
If you have any questions on any of this, let us know.
00:07:28.399 --> 00:07:31.519
And also, we talk about this a lot on the academy.
00:07:31.680 --> 00:07:39.519
We talk about website information, SEO, social media, and all we talk about, and we go over all this to train you to show you how to do this.
00:07:39.680 --> 00:07:43.839
