Sam Taylor: Sammy, this is both a sad but very fulfilling day. This is our final episode of season number one of Planer Conversations. Spotify, thought we'd have five listeners.
Justin Kane: So it's been a great time. I can't wait for this episode. for those who are just tuning in, welcome to Cleaner Conversations. I'm your host, Justin Kane, along
Sam Taylor: I'm your host Justin Kane.
Justin Kane: with my wonderful and awesome co-host
Sam Taylor: co host Sammy Taylor. Thank you. Thanks Justin. Couldn't do without you. it's really nice to have you on this and the questions and a lot of things that you're able to talk and connect with these guys on is
Justin Kane: Sammy Taylor. It's really nice to have people on this and the questions and a lot of things if you're able to talk and connect with these guys on
Sam Taylor: a level above mine, so I've learned a lot also just being able to sit across from you. So it's it's been a pleasure
Justin Kane: Yeah, it's been a pleasure. It really has. I know we just want to go through briefly some of the clients or some of the guests that we've had on this podcast. I remember we started all
Sam Taylor: some of the clients or some of the guests that we've had after this podcast.
Justin Kane: the way with Cohen. He was our first guest. He sat right here on this table and he said, Welcome to the pod.
Sam Taylor: Yes, he sat right here on this table and he said, Welcome to the pod.
Cohen Wills: Yeah, thank you guys for having me on the pod.
Justin Kane: And we had a great time with him. But that was our first taste of what this podcast could look like and could feel like, and it was a great start. I think we had
Sam Taylor: Think we are.
Justin Kane: over a hundred. Views on that very first podcast. So I was pretty exciting to get it started. Yeah, you know, you try to put something together, and I think we thought that this would be helpful for people to listen to, like it would give cleaners something to listen to while they're going throughout their week. But know, when you start putting some of this together, it took us a while just to get the audio and the camera screen class. We've learned a lot. We've come a long way since we've had Cohen on there, but the
Sam Taylor: Yeah, you know, you're trying to put something together and I think we thought that this would be helpful for people to listen to. Like it would give cleaners something to listen to while they're going throughout their week. But when you s start putting some of this together, it took us a while just to get the audio and the cameras figured out. So we've learned a lot. We've come a long way since we've had Cohen on there, but the welcome to the pod always comes back.
Justin Kane: To the pod. Yeah. Always come out. That always stood out. next was Major, Major from Major Cleaners. that was a great guest to have. James Poyster.
Sam Taylor: James Peuster out with the
Justin Kane: Yep. Dave Coyle.
Sam Taylor: Route Pros Hall of Fame.
Justin Kane: I really enjoyed that episode. Nathaniel. Yeah. Ken Sandy. Yep, up with Dry, I think we're in the Kermit. Kermit, I know
Sam Taylor: Nathaniel. Yeah. Ken Sandy. Yep, up with Dry, big branding, culture guy.
Justin Kane: that was a really good episode about business numbers. Jan Barlow, that was a lot of fun. Jan Barlow, you know the set that Jan was our first pop. Yeah.
Sam Taylor: Jan Barlow. Jan Barlow know, I would have said what Jan was our first pop. Yeah. you know I think first our first buyer. Yeah, our first dry clean you know, we think there's about a thousand dry cleaners out here who would listen to this. And so if there's six hundred to seven hundred listeners on the podcast, it's like wow I
Justin Kane: Yeah, I think our first viral. Yeah, our first draikon. You know, I think there's about a thousand draikons out here who would listen to this. And so there's six hundred on the podcast like wow. I love it. Arika Williams. Huge for the production side.
Sam Taylor: Huge for the production side.
Justin Kane: Yep, that was great to step into a world where it wasn't the owner. Ryan Fish. Yeah, with Red Hang, we're going out to see him end of this month. Yeah, love
Sam Taylor: Yeah, with Red hanger we're going out to see him end of this month.
Justin Kane: that. Glen Gould. Yeah.
Sam Taylor: Yeah.
Justin Kane: that was a really good one. Chris Schrader, Joel Bien and Heather then Matt Simon. We did that while we were at the Maverick group. Yeah. That was brutal, but that was fun as well.
Sam Taylor: Our first experience doing it something in person, learned a lot there.
Justin Kane: So Chris Schrader we loved him so much. We decided to have him back on as a alone guest, and so that went over really well. Had a sad story
Sam Taylor: Chris Shader, we loved him so much, we decided to have him back on as a alone guest. And so that went over really well.
Justin Kane: about a a fire that took place. Yeah. Dino from Canada. CFA pressure. Yeah. Yeah, he's doing
Sam Taylor: Yeah Dino from Canada. CFA president, looking forward to seeing him next month. Yeah, he's doing
Justin Kane: Some good stuff. Bonnie Blum,
Sam Taylor: some good stuff.
Justin Kane: that was also a nice behind the scenes look. Yeah, the data shows is to what people listen to is they care about production. So it's really good type on the aircom. Yeah, Kathy Benzinger, that was a real treat for me. I really enjoyed our conversation with their Ricardo
Sam Taylor: Yeah, the data shows is to what people listen to is they care about production. And so it's really good to have Bonnie and Arika on to talk about that.
Justin Kane: Torres, Tiffany cleaners from Vegas, does a bunch of other business stuff. Peter Blake, that was another
Sam Taylor: And you're blake, that was another needle
Justin Kane: needle mover
Sam Taylor: mover.
Justin Kane: with listeners. So a lot of people know him, have followed him and really got a lot of good feedback on that episode. Yeah, great have a lucky sh I think he's a really good
Sam Taylor: Yeah, great dude. adds a lot to the industry. I think he's a really good person and face, for the East Coast for sure. And then we've got little series on a POS Cents that it comes into the space, Spot that has been in the space for some time, magnolia that is just entering in as a competitor. And then also we reached out to SMRT as well they have yet to get onto the
Justin Kane: And then we rolled out a little series on the POS's. Cents that is coming into the space, Xplor Spot that has been in the space for some time, Magnoli that is just entering in as a competitor. And then also we reached out to SMRT as well, they have yet to get on to the to the podcast. timing.
Sam Taylor: timing wasn't great, so always welcome on. we felt like those were two leaders currently, SMRT and spot. Most dry cleaners might have those. and then two new guys that are coming into space. I thought it was good to give context, especially ahead of a lot of the shows that we have coming up towards the end of the year.
Justin Kane: wasn't great. So always the welcome fun. Yeah. we felt like those were two same leaders currently, know, SMRT and spot. Dry cleaners might have those. and then two new guys that are coming in the space. I thought it was good to give context, especially ahead of a lot of shares that we have coming up towards the end of the year. Absolutely. So that's twenty three episodes. Twenty three.
Sam Taylor: Twenty three.
Justin Kane: that's a perfect number. That's I grew up in Chicago. That is the GOAT number. That is Michael Jordan's number. That is like a great way to well this will make it twenty four, so we're moving to Kobe territory, but that's okay. Twenty-four episodes, season number one. Yeah.
Sam Taylor: Chicago, that is the goat number. That is Michael Jordan's number. That is like a great way to well this will make it twenty four, so we're we'll make it totally different. That's okay. Twenty four episodes, season number one. Yeah.
Justin Kane: And it was a real treat to have all those guests on. what stood out to you or who stood out to
Sam Taylor: guest on. what stood out to you or who stood out to you?
Justin Kane: you? the first episode that we did with Cohen.
Sam Taylor: the first episode that we did with Cohen shared a lot of what we would hear from a lot of other people, meaning owners typically become the ceiling.
Justin Kane: shared a lot of what we would hear from a lot of other people, meaning owners typically become the ceiling.
Sam Taylor: of their business. And most of the guests that we had shared, hey, you know, when I started to see tons of traction I was able to step outside of the business and manage it and put people and elevate them to make good decisions and grow the company So what about you?
Justin Kane: of their business. Yeah. And most of the guests that we had share, hey, you know, when I started to see tons of traction, I was able to step outside of the business. Yeah. and manage it and put people and elevate them to make good decisions and grow the company So yeah, really well said. What stood out to me is just the care that each individual has for the industry itself.
Sam Taylor: The industry itself, the people that work for them for
Justin Kane: the people that work for them or other people in the industry. I just came across really loud through all of our conversations of how much they care about their business, how much they care about the industry that they're in, and how much they care about the people that actually work for them. So that was really, really cool to experience as we went about that. anything that you appreciate,
Sam Taylor: through all of our conversations and how much they care about the business, how much they care about the industry that they're in, how much they care about the people that actually work for them. So that would be really, really cool to experience as we went about that. anything that you appreciate that you've experienced while we've been doing this?
Justin Kane: that you've experienced while we've been doing this?
Sam Taylor: I think it's important to make things exciting, especially with work.
Justin Kane: think it's important to make things exciting, especially with work.
Sam Taylor: and in this industry, it tends to be overlooked, especially over the last, you know, several decades. and so what I learned throughout this and talking with a lot of these owners was there's a lot of excitement. So it's not just something self built up in our head and cleaner marketing's head that we're very excited to be doing this and working with this and being in this industry. This is a really cool moment to be.
Justin Kane: And this industry tends to be overlooking, especially over the last several decades. and so what I learned throughout this and talking to a lot of these owners was there's a lot of excitement. So it's not just something self-built up in our head and clean the marketing's head that we're very excited to be doing this and working with this and being in this industry. This is a really cool moment to be a part of this, and there is a lot of opportunity, and every guest was really hyped up about it. And you don't hear that from everybody.
Sam Taylor: part of this and there is a lot of opportunity and every guest was really hyped up about it and you don't hear that from everybody. I don't know if did that stick out with you? Did you hear anything? One that gets fun giving us the time, right? Sharing some free knowledge, sharing their stories, sharing some of the pain points
Justin Kane: I don't know if the past took out with you. It definitely did. I really appreciate one, the guests coming on and giving us their time, right? And sharing some free knowledge, sharing their stories, sharing some of their pain points and also some of their successes.
Sam Taylor: So similar successes. And then I appreciate people just subscribing, following, and listening, commenting. Like that's been a real joy to know that there's been
Justin Kane: And then I appreciate people just subscribing and following and listening and commenting. Like that's been a real joy to know that there's been a movement of a group of people that have been following this podcast, yeah listening to it, spreading it, passing it along to somebody that maybe they know it would be beneficial to. So really grateful for that and appreciative.
Sam Taylor: Yeah. listening to it, spreading passing it along with somebody that maybe they know that would be beneficial too. So really great for that appreciative. free content for the dry cleaning industry. That's easily accessible with something that we needed. and so, we're getting over a subscriber a day now and over several thousand views.
Justin Kane: free content for the dry cleaning industry. It's easily accessible with something that we need. and so, we're getting number of subscribers a day now. Yeah. Because I think about that. If I'm a dry cleaner owner, where do I turn to just tap into some industry specific? I love how somebody coined it tribal knowledge.
Sam Taylor: into some industry specific I love how somebody called it tribal knowledge
Justin Kane: where can I get that kind of information from? And that's what we wanted to provide, right? It's not just a a teaching thing, but it's allowing you to
Sam Taylor: get that kind of information from and that's what we wanted to provide, right? It's not just a a teaching thing, but it's allowing you to to step into somebody else's world, see it from their perspective, and and hear the same language that you speak every single day that give you a fresh perspective. Yeah. Yeah. so what we decided to do in this episode, Sam, is just do our top three, right? We've done 23 episodes, so many great nuggets and we pulled so many different things that we could have looked at from our notes.
Justin Kane: To step into somebody else's world, see it from their perspective, and hear the same language that you speak every single day, but give you a fresh perspective. Yeah. Yep. So what we decided to do in this episode, Sam, is just do our top three, right? We've had 23 episodes, so many great nuggets. I mean, we pulled so many different things that we could have looked at from our notes. That would
Sam Taylor: make it a very very lengthy podcast or at least an episode so we thought it would be great. Let's do the top three.
Justin Kane: make it a very, very lengthy podcast, or at least an episode. So we thought it would be great. Let's do the top three.
Sam Taylor: and so you can either or I'll start with my third and then we'll always
Justin Kane: and so you can either I'll start with my third and then we'll always work down to our top one that really stood out to us that we would encourage somebody to go back and listen to and see what kind of impact it would make. So I will begin with mine. out of my top three, the third one is Ryan from Red Hanger What I really enjoyed about that episode, if you haven't heard it, please go and listen to it, is the
Sam Taylor: That really stood out to us that we would encourage somebody to go back and listen to and see what kind of impact it would make. So I will begin with Ryan. and then my top three, the third one is a rhyme from Red Hanger. What I really enjoyed about that episode, if you haven't heard it, please go and listen to it, is the pain
Justin Kane: pain that business owners have to go through, the resilience that it takes
Sam Taylor: that business owners have to go through, the resilience that it takes to not
Justin Kane: to not buckle under pressure. Seth Godin calls it the dip that either you exit at that point or you realize you know you can go up from there. And a lot of people can't get through that particular dip. and he talked about some of the pain, some of the difficulties with partnership, difficulties with finances, and then breaking through and seeing a lot of success right now. And so I sat back, thinking about that episode and just realizing
Sam Taylor: Buckle under pressure. Seth Godin calls it the dip that either you exit at that point or you realize you know you can go up from there, and lot of people can't get through that particular dip. And he talked about some of the pain, some of the difficulties with partnership, difficulties with finances, and then breaking through and seeing a lot of success right now. And so I stepped back, thinking about that episode and just realized.
Justin Kane: how important it is for somebody to
Sam Taylor: is for somebody to to have hope that no matter how hard it gets, if you're doing some of the right things
Justin Kane: that no matter how hard it gets, if you're doing some of the right things and you have your heart in it, you can see through those challenging times. So that was one thing that really stood out to me. He was very vulnerable in that. If you've ever heard Ryan speak, a very good speaker, but he's also very transparent and vulnerable. So there has this emotional connection
Sam Taylor: see through those challenging times. So that was one thing that really stood out to me. He was very vulnerable in that. If you've ever heard Ryan speak, a very good speaker, but he's also very transparent and vulnerable. So there has this emotional connection.
Justin Kane: as well. you know, he wants to live a balanced life between what makes him money, but also the family that he serves. And so that episode reminds
Sam Taylor: some money but also the family that he serves. For that episode we're going to be
Justin Kane: reminded me a lot of the importance of pushing through, but also
Sam Taylor: Pushing through are also
Justin Kane: what truly matters in life. So if you haven't taken some time to listen to that one, I would definitely encourage you to search that up,
Sam Taylor: in life. So if you haven't taken some time to listen to that one, I would definitely encourage you to search that up.
Justin Kane: Ryan with red hangers, and it you really can understand resilience in a new way. So that was
Sam Taylor: So that was number one. That was number three. Ooh, okay. What's there's no favoritism. There's none. Okay. That's a Ryan Dictate number list. Okay. All right. That's good for Ryan.
Justin Kane: That was number three. Yeah. Yeah. So we're going down. no payments. There's none. No whatsoever. But Ryan did make my list. Okay. All right. That's good from
Sam Taylor: with three. Yeah, what's your favorite? three and I think something that really matters to me is seeing new people coming into the space. Yeah. and
Justin Kane: Yeah, what's your your what's your third? Three and I think something that really mattered to me is seeing new people come into the space. Yeah. and
Sam Taylor: It was very nice to listen and talk with
Justin Kane: it was very nice to listen and talk with
Sam Taylor: Major, one of the first ones that we did, and had PTSD because I was with him when he first got into the space, but get into hear how it's not always pretty and
Justin Kane: ETSD, yeah, because I was with him when he first got into this space, but get in to hear how it's not always pretty and how gritty ha it can be. And he jumped in thinking it was gonna be this specific way. And he could have these really
Sam Taylor: How gritty it can be. And he jumped in thinking it was gonna be this specific way. And he could have easily left. He could have called it a day and gone and done something else, but he really stayed with it. And as far as I'm aware in the Greenville market, he is taking a lot of market share. He's runs a really good business. and he's a really sharp guy. So I think that was one that I
Justin Kane: But he really stayed with it. And as far as him wearing the Greenville market, he's taking a lot of market share. He runs a really good business. he's a really sharp guy. So I think that was one of
Sam Taylor: think will connect a lot of people my age, especially new in the business.
Justin Kane: And he took over from something that would been seasoned, right? So there
Sam Taylor: Yeah.
Justin Kane: might be a great overhaul, some teammates in place that he had to kind of say, Okay, this is the new way of kinda doing it, then he had to do a name change and what he was gonna decide on that. So that there was a lot of good stuff in that episode.
Sam Taylor: and being different stood out this year. Yeah. And you saw you talk about that a lot. It's just being different. Be different with something. So What's number two?
Justin Kane: Yeah. Being different stood out differently. Yeah. Quite inspiring. Yeah. And you start talking about that a lot. Being different. Be different. was something. So Yep. my next one, number two on my list, is Ricardo Torres. this one really stood out to me. One because he's very good at articulating and talking about business, talking about numbers,
Sam Taylor: stood out to me one because he's very good at articulating and talking about business, talking about an
Justin Kane: talking about what you should be looking at. but what stood out to me was just how he stepped into opportunities.
Sam Taylor: should be looking at. but what stood out to me was just how he stepped into opportunities that weren't weren't necessarily there but who was just saying and like if you don't shake that tree you never know it's gonna fall from it and so he stepped in, that's how he got his first laundry net, that's how he came step into the cleaner space, the
Justin Kane: That weren't weren't necessarily there, but he was just saying, Man, like if you don't shake that tree, you never know what's gonna fall from it. And so he stepped in, that's how he got his first laundromat, that's how he began to, step into the cleaner space, the carpet cleaning space. So many of the things that he has stepped into is because of the opportunities that he stepped into that weren't necessarily very, very clear. And then being ready to do so. And ready doesn't mean everything's perfect, doesn't mean that he knows what he's gonna do, but he's ready.
Sam Taylor: Because so many of the things that he has stepped into is because of the opportunities that he stepped into that weren't necessarily very, very clear. And then being ready to do so. And ready doesn't mean everything's perfect, doesn't mean that he knows what he's going to do, but he's ready to take on the opportunity.
Justin Kane: It's almost like a mindset shift. So if you really want to get kind of nitty-gritty into the details, the numbers, how to look at your business, how to set it up so that that business could actually sell one day, that episode is definitely for you. And if you're ever wondering, man, like where are some of the next opportunities, listen to his story. And you may realize opportunities, they may look like they're hidden right in front of you, but they're all around us. And it's just which one you have to step into. And he did that in a real way.
Sam Taylor: So if you really want to get kind of nitty gritty the details of the numbers, how to look at your business, how to set it up so that business could actually sell one day, that episode is definitely for you. And if you're ever wondering, man, like where are some of the next opportunities, listen to his story. And you may realize opportunities, they may look like they're hidden right in front of you, but they're all around us. And it's just which one we have to step into. And he did that in a real way. Like he just stepped into that first one.
Justin Kane: just stepped into that first laundromat business and he was like, Hey, I would like to buy your business. And you know, it just he just made a real talk conversation and turned out to be a great opportunity for him. Brought his family on. He's gone through his shares of struggles, which also is very clear in that episode. But
Sam Taylor: know, just he just made the real talk conversation and it turned out to be a great opportunity for him. Got his family on, he's gone through his share of his struggles, which also is very clean and epistemically.
Justin Kane: he's come out standing tall and very proud of the work he's done. And no ego. Yeah. Yeah.
Sam Taylor: Like a a no ego guy. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I love that. Multiple locations spread across the US. carpet monkeys? Yeah.
Justin Kane: I love that. Multiple locations spread across the US businesses, laundry, mat business and then real estate. Yeah. And two, if you have a high end dry cleaner and you're really looking to kinda look behind the scenes a little bit into somebody else, that's definitely somebody
Sam Taylor: That's definitely somebody.
Justin Kane: to connect with or to check out that episode. Yeah, okay. number two for me
Sam Taylor: Yeah, okay. number two for me would be and this I might be stealing this one 'cause we have not shared notes. We
Justin Kane: And this I might be stealing this one because we have not shared notes. We have not.
Sam Taylor: have not. We got it. Chris Schrader. Is he on your He's not on Okay, all right, Chris. for him throwing subtle jabs into the the episodes we do with them. I mean great, great guy in up in Nashville. I know.
Justin Kane: Sherker, is he on your He's not on my list? All right. for him throwing subtle jabs into the episodes we do with them. I mean, great, great guy up He did bite the hand that feeds you. Like we pay him all this money to be on our episode and then he just slaps major setbacks, but you could connect with Chris. he wasn't gonna beat you down with
Sam Taylor: Yeah, he's like, where's that money? major setbacks. But you could connect with Chris. he wasn't gonna beat you down with industry jargon he was hey, I you know, I got into this and I just really tried hard and there was a lot of effort that I put in on a lot of failures, like multiple fires, even right after we did our episode, a day or two later, after he shared his story about his
Justin Kane: Like multiple fires, even right after we did our episode a day or two later, after he shared his story about his plant catching on fire and little short catches on fire. So crazy timing. but he looks at the business in a way I think
Sam Taylor: plant catching on fire, another store catches on fire. So crazy timing. but he looks at the business in a way I think he's not the dry cleaning business. He's in the marketing business. he's in the the business of getting in front of people. So I thought it was a really good way to look at it.
Justin Kane: he's not the dry cleans business. He's in the marketing business. he's in the business business. That really stood out for people. So I thought it was a really good point to look at. And if you are building a business with your family, yeah, what a great
Sam Taylor: Yeah.
Justin Kane: person to get to know. Like he has his daughter, his son, I mean he has family in the business. And it it's certainly not easy. we've seen some horror stories, we've heard some disconnections, like with Kathy. but then Dino talks about how the challenges are going on, but still they just kind of work
Sam Taylor: He has family in the business. And it's certainly not easy. we've seen some horror stories, we've heard some disconnections, like with Kathy. but then Dino talks about how the challenges are going on, but still they just kind of work.
Justin Kane: this thing out. You have to separate sometimes family and business. but he's done a very good job at
Sam Taylor: business, but he's done a very good job.
Justin Kane: that. So that really brought a smile to my face when I heard how well it's going. And two focus.
Sam Taylor: And to that, how important is hyper focused like marketing or strategy? If
Justin Kane: Yeah.
Sam Taylor: you're going after wedding gowns, if there's a dream neighborhood you're looking for, putting real thought and tactics into execution. Yeah, and right putting seat. Yeah.
Justin Kane: Yep, and the right people in the right seats. I think he's done a very, very good job at that. All right, so that was your number two? That was my number two. All right, I have a tie for my number one, okay? And the tie goes between the episode that we did with Dave Coyle and Jan Barlow. the reason why it's a tie is because I really love Dave is a teacher of teachers, right? He knows how to articulate
Sam Taylor: That was my number two. Alright, I have a tie to my number one. Okay. And the tie goes between the episode that beginning with Dave Coyle and Jan Barber. because I really love Dave is a teacher of teachers. He knows how to articulate.
Justin Kane: things, he knows how to talk about the things that he needs to talk about. you know, whether He says somebody you're drowning. It's not because you're drowning, it's because you stopped swimming. And and he's been through it.
Sam Taylor: Mm-hmm. And he's been through it.
Justin Kane: He has a really good story about where he's come from, and now to where he is, it's a great success story. And he has a very
Sam Taylor: And he has a very
Justin Kane: good dry cleaning business with In the Bag and a very good consulting business with Maverick Dry Cleaner. So anyways, I really enjoyed that episode because it allowed me to kind of even think upon the business that we do at Cleaner Marketing, just make
Sam Taylor: So anyways, I really enjoyed that episode because it allowed me to kind of even think upon the business that we do at the marketing just manage.
Justin Kane: sure that I'm dialed in with the right questions that I'm asking and making sure I have the pulse where I need to have the pulse. The reason why I love Jan so much is she is just a hoot. She is the real deal. She's been in the industry for many, many, many, many years. she's not going anywhere. she's very honest, has a a level of energy that I wish for sometimes.
Sam Taylor: Making sure have a false for any day false. The reason why I love Jan so much is she is just a boot. She is the real deal. She's been in the industry for many, many, many, many years. She's not going anywhere. She's very honest, has a level of energy that I wish for sometimes. And she deeply cares. She cares about her business, she cares about her team. She has a great team. And that team respects her at a very, very high level.
Justin Kane: and she deeply cares. She cares about her business. She cares about our team. She has a great team and that team respects her at a very, very high level. but really did just enjoy
Sam Taylor: Really did just joy.
Justin Kane: our time with her. That was a lot of fun. you know Maybe sometimes the the camera and the face angle didn't line up perfectly or she couldn't
Sam Taylor: Maybe sometimes the the camera and the face angle line up perfectly.
Justin Kane: get on, but I could care less because she shared some
Sam Taylor: Yeah. She shared some.
Justin Kane: really, really good things with both of them. So do you remember both of those episodes, Dave and Jan's? No. All right over your head. the first one that fell into pay this guy, but it was our first root. Yep.
Sam Taylor: No. No, Dave's was the first one that felt like, hey, this guy and it again, he was in our first three. but Asking him questions, Dave thinks very deeply on all these things. And if you're a part of Maverick Groups, you know that he takes it very seriously on the coaching and the execution and the follow up of everything
Justin Kane: asking them questions, Dave thinks very deeply on all these things. And if you're a part of an effort group, you know that he takes it very seriously in the coaching and the execution and the follow-up.
Sam Taylor: that you're talking about in these groups. He does a really good job of it. And he puts it in plain English. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to be in there. You just want to be able to get better. those are a good I mean, you switched it up with doing a double up on number one.
Justin Kane: You don't have three rockets knife just to be in there. You just want to Very well said. those are I mean switched it up with double up on the number one. that's a good top three, wasn't it? Yeah, that's a good top three. And
Sam Taylor: I think it yeah, that's a good top three. And I think it was very cool to get the point of sales to have a conversation with us. Alex, Nicole and Justin. I mean speaking first for Cents, Alex has built a business that's valued at one point two billion dollars.
Justin Kane: I think it was very cool to get the point of sales to have a conversation with us. Alex, Nicole, and Justin. I mean speaking first percents, Alex has built a business that's valued at one point two billion dollars. Yeah. the young guy again.
Sam Taylor: And he sat down and talked with us. he's a young guy. Again, he goes back to
Justin Kane: Get us back.
Sam Taylor: the major and the other young people move in the industry. Justin seeing boots on the ground, what it's like building a point of sale with AI, that's a different world. I really like listening to his perspective on it, like what was needed. And then Nicole with the support and continuing to manage a beast in this industry, which, you know
Justin Kane: Justin seeing boots on the ground, what it's like building a point of sale with AI. that's a different world. I really like of listening to his perspective on like what was needed. And then Nicole with the support and continuing to manage a beast in this industry, which most train needs have spot. Yeah. Or one of this core, core three or four in. Yeah. So I think that meant a lot to me for them to be able to sit in.
Sam Taylor: Most dry cleaners have xplor spot or one of these core, core three or four in there. So I think that meant a lot to me for them to be able to sit in. I I'll say this. One very memorable conversation we have was with Glenn Gould Yeah. And it was because he came from an authority side of things he's an author, but he doesn't think he's not an author where he's going out and trying to make a million amazing books. He's just trying to write a book.
Justin Kane: I'll say that's one very memorable conversation we had was with Glen Gold. Yep. And it was because he came from an authority side of things he's an author, but he doesn't think he's not an author where he's going out and trying to make a million amazing books. He's just trying to write a book.
Sam Taylor: And have that book signify some authority in his area. So if he has customers, this is the dry cleaner who wrote a book about X, Y, and Z, which builds trust and authorities. It was just a totally different way to think about it.
Justin Kane: and have that book signify some authority in his air. So if he has customers, this is the direct man who wrote a book about X, Y, and Z which builds trust and authorities. It was just a totally different way to think about it.
Sam Taylor: I really enjoyed our time with Glenn.
Justin Kane: Yeah, well that's cool. those are good top six or seven that we we had. And of course, we had a list of so many more. Like we could go on and on and on. But I thought it was a really cool experience to get season one under our belt. To enjoy having all these wonderful guests. I'm sure some of will come back for a second time. I mean, everybody
Sam Taylor: Yeah.
Justin Kane: that I know is asking, Will off the clock be back for season two? Like it will I
Sam Taylor: Will Off Oc be back for season two? It better be.
Justin Kane: mean I was trying to kick that thing off since episode one, but it lasted the entire season. Like talk about resilience.
Sam Taylor: I it's talking about resilience. Justin doesn't really want to take it off, you guys know that.
Justin Kane: Yeah. they're like, what are they even talking about? Well, off the clock is when we ask those questions that just what happens? Yeah,
Sam Taylor: What they even talking about?
Justin Kane: so you guys know think it's cool because some of these stories will get thrown into like trade magazines with little cartoons and so just like little things to make the industry slightly different. Yeah. which is can be exciting. So some of those stories that you guys share we'll throw into cartoons and those will be in trade magazines.
Sam Taylor: So you guys know I think it's cool because some of these stories will get thrown into like trade magazines with little cartoons and so just like little things to make the industry a slightly different. which is can be exciting. So some of those stories that you guys share we'll throw into cartoons and those will be in trade magazines. So just a little bit of something to add flavor to the magazines and newsletters that you guys read. So very cool. Well so we can start tonight and you ready to take a couple weeks off?
Justin Kane: So just a little bit of something to add flavor to the magazines and newsletters that you guys have. All right, very cool. Well, so we post an episode every Sunday night. We're gonna take a couple weeks off and then we're gonna re enter season twenty three. And how are we gonna
Sam Taylor: Season twenty three and how are you?
Justin Kane: kick off season twenty three? Or season two. I don't know why I said season twenty three. Season two. so
Sam Taylor: that's a really good question. I'd be way older. so we're going to be kicking back up at the expo. so expo DC for sixteenth or eighteenth we're gonna be there. There's a Canadian Fabricare Association SDA meeting. We're gonna be going to a lot of
Justin Kane: expo so expo DC four sixteenth or eighteenth we're gonna be there there's another fabric association sda we're gonna be going to a lot
Sam Taylor: events throughout the end of the year, so we think it's a really good time to take a one to two week break. look at
Justin Kane: Throughout the end of the year. So we think it's a really good time to take a one to two week break. Yep. look at what the conversations teach us from this. What can we do to make things better and bring more value and resources to you guys who are listening? excited.
Sam Taylor: what the conversations teach us from this? What can we do to make things better and bring more value and resources to you guys who are listening?
Justin Kane: I'm excited for all the new guests that we're gonna have on, the new voices, because our desire at the end of the day is to create a platform that not only educates Entertains but also connects you to voices and people that maybe you weren't fully aware of or now it makes them more accessible, the fact that you were able to see them, hear them, and get their contact details. Yeah. was there something specific that surprised you doing this?
Sam Taylor: more accessible on the fact that you were able to see them, compare them, get their contact details. Yeah. was there something specific that surprised you doing this?
Justin Kane: I would say what surprised me is how much I enjoyed each of the guests, right? Like some of these guests that come on board I've never spent any amount of time with. And so to be able to connect through
Sam Taylor: I would say what surprised me is how much I enjoyed each of the guests. Right? Like some these guests that come on board I've never spent any amount of time with. And so to be able to connect through
Justin Kane: off-site on video, that surprised me that we were able to connect as well as we did with the guest. And you know what surprised me too is how well they were able to communicate on camera to our audience. So those are the two things that come.
Sam Taylor: site on video. That surprised me that we were able to connect as well as we did with the guest. And you know what surprised me too? How well they were able to communicate on camera to our audience. So those are the two things that kind of stood Some of these guys have never done a podcast. Yeah. And you wouldn't think of that at all when they're talking. It's probably because I mean those guys. Hey you know
Justin Kane: Some of these guys never provided. Yeah. And you wouldn't think of that at all. Yeah. It's probably because of the hosts. I mean those guys. Hey, so you know, listening back just so you guys know I do listen and try to make a little bit of adjustment. sitting across from Justin's tough to be mean. Everything is enunciated to the T. I mean that's
Sam Taylor: listening back, just so you guys know, I do listen and try to make a little bit of adjustment. sitting across from Justin's tough to beat though. I mean Everything is enunciated to the T. I mean that's I'll start one thing and then I'll kind of move to another and what are these guys? Have no idea what I'm talking about. So just so you know, this is the first thing I've done as well, guys. So what surprised me to go to add on to that was people's willingness to actually do this.
Justin Kane: I'll start with this and I'll kind of move it out there and what are these guys? I have no idea what I'm talking about. So just this is the first thing I've done as well, guys. what surprised me to go to add on to that was people's willingness to actually do this. Yep. I mean, for people to say no, I don't know that anybody said no. No. everybody was very active or very
Sam Taylor: I mean for people to say no, I don't know that anybody said no. No. everybody was very active or very open to it and actually had people towards, you know, after episode twelve or thirteen actually had people reaching out to want to jump on or recommending other people. And so we actually do listen to the recommendations. We don't have a million followers, obviously. So the recommendations and things that you guys say to us.
Justin Kane: open to it and actually had people towards you know after episode 12 or 13 actually people reaching out to want to jump on or recommending other people and so we actually do listen to the recommendations we don't have a million followers obviously so the recommendations and things that you guys say to us really matters the support that you guys have obviously we keep doing this if one person was listening or nobody was listening but we really
Sam Taylor: really matters. the support that you guys have. Obviously we would keep doing this if one person was listening or nobody was listening. But we really enjoy this and it matters to us that you guys engage. So I think that's been a big blessing and something I didn't expect really at all.
Justin Kane: Enjoy this and it matters to us that you guys engage. So I think that's been a big blessing. It's something I didn't expect really at all. Yeah, really well said. Well, Sam, it's been a pleasure to do this with you as well. I think we served
Sam Taylor: Yeah.
Justin Kane: our audience well, we served the industry well, and I can't wait to do it again in season number two coming in a couple weeks. So thank you all for listening to this episode. that you made it all the way to the end here. And if you did, please follow us as much as you can on all

Sam Taylor: There's something in one of these episodes that we have for everybody. Absolutely. So share it. there's probably somebody who hasn't connected with the industry in a long time. you know, it means a lot to us and I hope it means a lot to them too.
