With 14 years of experience teaching Spanish in public high schools, a master's degree in educational psychology, and a company devoted to facilitating meaningful encounters with other cultures, Jewel brings a unique perspective to the intersection of human connection, spirituality, and the unknown.
The Mystical Experience of Feeling Connected to Everything
In 2015, Jewel was leading a student tour in Peru when the community hosting her group invited everyone to participate in a winter solstice ceremony near Lake Titicaca.
As participants gathered around a fire, they took part in a ritual of letting go, symbolically releasing what no longer served them. Holding hands in a circle, they moved and danced together.
Then something extraordinary happened.

Jewel shares her own experience of losing a beloved Boston Terrier and the profound grief that followed. She describes the special connection she felt with her dog, including a sense of communication and understanding that went beyond what she had experienced with other animals.
She also reflects on her work in animal rescue, where she has witnessed the resilience of animals who have endured neglect and abuse yet remain capable of giving and receiving love.
Together, we explore the possibility that the bond between humans and animals might extend beyond physical life. We discuss animal souls, unconditional love, the possibility of an afterlife for pets, and whether the animals who change our lives might remain connected to us in ways we don't fully understand. And why would we want to understand...the mystery is what makes life worth living!
