ABOUT THIS EPISODE
What happens when the person who is always caring for everyone else finally has space to hear herself?
In this episode of Breaking Patterns, Skye sits down with Vicky Lynn Andritsch, founder of Rooted Within Wellness, to explore the deeper purpose of retreat spaces—especially for parents and caregivers navigating chronic illness, acute illness, and other difficult medical journeys with their children.
Vicky's own family has walked through childhood cancer, brain injury, seizures, mental illness, and years of uncertainty. Those experiences now inform the restorative retreats she creates for caregivers who are often so attuned to everyone else's needs that they've lost touch with their own.
Together, Skye and Vicky talk about why retreats are far more than spa weekends or an escape from real life. They can create a container for rest, connection, nervous-system regulation, reflection, nourishment, and perhaps most importantly, permission.
They explore what happens when we step outside the constant demands of everyday life long enough to ask: What does my body need? What have I buried under all this stress? And what tools might already be inside me if I could get quiet enough to find them?
This conversation is also an exploration of something central to Skye's emerging Creative Health Framework: intentional spaces and experiences aren't frivolous extras. They can help us interrupt our usual patterns, reconnect with ourselves, and return to our lives differently.
