Speaker 1: Hammers. Good luck, go Hammers. After Hammers go Hammers. Yeah, after Hammers go Hammers. We can do it. Yeah too, Right, that's the team at Newman's Tires and we are on the roads thanks to them and Cromwell from Hammer's HQ. It is game day, head coach Met Winter.
00:00:16
Speaker 2: Gooday loke how you make.
00:00:17
Speaker 1: Pinch yourself sort of moment?
00:00:19
Speaker 2: Ah, Yeah, it is actually pretty surreal, pretty awesome moment to be a part of. So yeah, just trying to take it a bit by bit really and enjoy it.
00:00:27
Speaker 1: What thoughts are you entertaining? Because we can all get excited pointing out that most players leadlone coaches don't get this sort of opportunity through their whole careers. That you know, there's only been twelve challenges in the history of Mid Canterbury rugby. Ryan Fox's open win would pale in comparison if we pull off the w this afternoon, Like do you go there, do you let that fuel you or do you treat it just like any other game?
00:00:55
Speaker 2: Oh, you'd be would be silly to try and treat it like any other game. It sort of takes away from the the occasion obviously, and saying that you've got to be acknowledged what the occasion is and how spicial it is and the opportunity we've got. But you've also got to be really mindful of getting overwhelmed and not being able to manage that. So it's about taking that emotion and just putting it to where we can use it most and focusing on how we can be as good as we can be.
00:01:21
Speaker 1: I suppose, yeah, you had a captain's run at alex yesterday.
00:01:26
Speaker 2: Good track, good track, Yeah, hard and fast. Looks like the weather's going to hold today too. I don't think it's going to be overly warm, but hopefully that where the holds off, which everyone keeps telling us that we want wet bargie track which will even things up a bit. But we like to think that we're going to have a red hot crack, so we want it hard and fast and you ever go too right.
00:01:49
Speaker 1: And then we were back here in Cromwell last night and it was a real privilege being involved in the Jersey presentation, which I know is something that you've introduced in the past couple of years just to really add to the sense of as and you got up there with a bit of a war cry. And there are a couple of points you made which I thought were particularly poignant. The first that, yes, it's an opportunity, but these fellas have earned this, Yes.
00:02:13
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, absolutely, mate, it's been well ten and o last year, well and truly the best side in the heartland. The opportunity there to come up and challenge for the shield, you know, it was something that the boys have earned and well and truly so. Yet it's an opportunity to go and out, go out there and have a crack.
00:02:28
Speaker 1: And it doesn't happen by chances, the culmination of a lot of hours, a lot of mahi. And you also noted that it's an occasion and I can only liken it to a wedding when you say it'll be gone like that, So particularly this morning, just taking a chance to stop and appreciate the moment. Yeah, yeah, that's right.
00:02:47
Speaker 2: Look like, yeah, you touched on at the ninety nine percent or so of rugby players don't get this opportunity, so it's easy for us to get so caught up in the game. And you know, but eighty minutes goes by pretty quickly, so it's really important to be able to enjoy this we go a pre special group of men here, so yeah, just take it moment by moment and just soak it all in.
00:03:05
Speaker 1: Really. Yeah, oh, tag, I've named a pretty formidable side, so clearly they're expecting a genuine contest, but we do have a genuine shot of taking that log back to Eshburton. And there's a few few things behind the scenes that helped to lift the side. You mentioned dementtra go always further. What's the background behind that.
00:03:29
Speaker 2: Oh, it's just something that we we found in and around some stuff from early on in mid Canery's history and which tied in through a little bit of stuff through through World War One, and yeah, it's just something that we went pretty far in year one when we made the final, but it wasn't far enough, and we worked really hard on that first year. So we realized that, you know, if we wanted to when the when the contest, when the when the championship, would.
00:03:54
Speaker 1: Have to go further.
00:03:54
Speaker 2: So that was last year's sort of work work on was just as far as we've gone before, we need to keep going and go further. So that was the push and that's something sort of we we we relate to too always really, so and yeah, just use another couple of things for the season, which is sort of a progression from that, which is just it helps us have a collective why I suppose Yeah,
