Speaker 1: David Mead from Rotary is in.
00:00:02
Speaker 2: Hi. Hi, Luke.
00:00:04
Speaker 1: Pull that mic a lot closer to you, mate, as you're catching your breath. You've sprinted across West Street and then East and up to the station here. We open up Book-O-Rama at 8am.
00:00:14
Speaker 2: Yes, we certainly do. Hopefully there's a good crowd there.
00:00:18
Speaker 1: Do I hear it's the biggest one yet?
00:00:19
Speaker 2: Yes, it is. It's, yes.
00:00:22
Speaker 1: Trestle tables and books as far as the eye can see, but also puzzles and CDs and DVDs. And sheep music's a big thing these days, too.
00:00:31
Speaker 2: It is. There's been a lot come in. I was telling you about the puzzles and that. They're all downstairs this year, so no climbing the stairs to go and have a look. So it made a huge difference.
00:00:43
Speaker 1: I hear that people have already started lining up, and they travel from far and wide to get here, eh?
00:00:48
Speaker 2: Yes, they come from all over the South Island. Why? Oh, we're such an iconic book sale, really. You know, it's... It's about the biggest in the South Island, our Rotary.
00:01:03
Speaker 1: What are you picking to be the hot picks this year?
00:01:07
Speaker 2: Oh, well, some pretty good specials there, you know, in the fiction line, and there's lots of sports books, and you name it, you'll find it there.
00:01:20
Speaker 1: Do you have, you know, a team of sorters that sort of keep an eye out when they come in and think, oh, yeah, that one's going to be you know, a hot favourite. We need to put that on a special table somewhere.
00:01:30
Speaker 2: Well, we do have a special table. It's what we call Lindsay's Table.
00:01:34
Speaker 1: Of course, yeah.
00:01:36
Speaker 2: And all the old books, any that are worth big, big money, all on Lindsay's Table, all priced.
00:01:44
Speaker 1: It's all such a skill, eh? Something I really wish I possessed. So alongside this being one of the biggest years for donations, there's also that sentimental thing of, what may happen to the sports hall on Tancred Street. So you're preparing for an onslaught this week?
00:02:01
Speaker 2: Oh, yes, yes. Well, we're hoping we'll have an onslaught.
00:02:05
Speaker 1: Open every day through to Saturday. What are the late nights again?
00:02:09
Speaker 2: Wednesday to 8.30 and Friday to 8.30, finishing Saturday lunchtime.
00:02:14
Speaker 1: Yeah, good to get in after work. A shout out to a few other groups that help Rotary make this happen too.
00:02:19
Speaker 2: Yeah, we're very lucky. We've got the Inner Wheel, a ladies group, and they have been excellent this year. Really great. They've done a great job in helping us. Also, we have the Rowan Club, and they do a fantastic job, too, in cleaning up and setting up. Love your routine. It's great to have those.
00:02:39
Speaker 1: Such a community effort. So, Bukurama from 8am. Best let you get back there to throw those doors open. David Mead, through to set today, if you're going long. Might help to take your own bags. because we've got a few of them, but your own bags would be appreciated, except in cash and FPOS, and hoping to breach the $ 77, 000 that the event made last year, which all goes back to local projects and causes, which is just wonderful.
