ABOUT THIS EPISODE
The right answers can still silence your own judgment:
“I actually knew all the answers.”
“I didn't know anything, but I knew how to be a reporter.”
“Use your strengths.”
Then the judges started asking questions...

Chasing Bigger Names
You can keep adding brands, credentials, and preparation yet lose direction. Anya Cheng came to the U.S. from Taiwan. Then she graduated in 2008 as the global financial crisis hit. Her English was still rough, and she barely knew anyone. So she fell back on what she knew: reporting. That helped her create her first opportunity. Sears/Kmart, Target, McDonald's, eBay, and Meta followed. But one question mostly didn't: who and what did she actually want to serve?
Use What You Have
Anya starts with strengths, then tests what she thinks she knows. At eBay, she learned: you are not the customer. At Meta, she saw how a tiny percentage could still mean real pain for a real person. More data matters. So does getting closer to the people behind it. Mark's Table Turners series on Bold Immersion takes that further: use the numbers, then go see the customer’s reality. Taelor now pairs AI with human stylists for busy men.

• Why a business plan created her first U.S. opportunity

• Why Meta showed percentages still need human context
• How 43 practice pitches left one crucial skill untested
Go Deeper — Premium Action Plan
Bring one recent workweek into Anya's exercise. Look at what actually took your time. Then pick one task that feels like the wrong use of it. Her three-way test helps expose what deserves more of you, what could move elsewhere, and what may not belong at all. One small wording change also changes how you act on it. Premium reveals the exact categories and what to change first this week.

Final Thought
Anya kept moving to bigger names before asking a smaller, harder question: what do I actually want? Reporter instincts got her in the door. Product work taught her to create value. Big-name companies gave her bigger stages. But Taelor came from aiming those strengths at something she actually cared about. That is the deeper crossroads: become more valuable, then point that value toward work you want to make your own.
