Speaker 1: Next News at eleven thirty, Breaking news when it happens anytime.
00:00:03
Speaker 2: Another hour with Bob Lonsberry starts now on news radio. Why I'm eleven eighty. Thanks, I appreciate that. Good morning, my friend. Thank you so much for tuning in. Find out beautiful day for radio program. Donald Trump has just posted that the United States will now take over operation of the Straight of Horn Moves. We will charge a twenty percent toll. We will also impose a shipping blockage on all vessels going to or coming from I Ran. We'll see how that goes. Also, a man who has been killed in Maine after reportedly trying to run down in Immigrations and Customs enforcement officer with a car. And this comes, of course, after situation last week in Texas where a similar claim was made relative to a danger for an officer. No more details on this situation from Maine yet. Mitch McConnell yesterday afterward that Lindsey Graham had passed away at least a photograph of himself, supposedly at some rehab facility. He says that he did not have a cardiac arrest. They did not do CPR. He simply fell and then they discovered that he has pneumonia. In the photograph, there's a picture of yesterday's newspaper. There's a newspaper in the photograph. His wife, Elaine Chow I believe is her name, is beside him. He looks like an old man who the respect should have retired from whatever line of work he was in many long years ago. The notion, and I don't mean this cruelly. I don't disrespect Mitch McConnell. You know, I don't see him as a bad guy by any means. But the notion that he should still be in federal office is driven not by need of the country, not by practical reality, but by personal and institutional vanity. You know, we all think we're important. I know I do, For crying out loud, who else possibly could make an ass of himself for four hours every morning on the radio. We all think we play a role, and we do play a role. But the thing that's hard for us mortals who have not yet died to fully grasp is that we are temporary. We are replaceable like that, and sometimes we try to deny that reality, and we cling to things long after we should let go. And God bless Mitch McConnell. But the man is significantly aged. It has had a very significant impact upon him. We have a large country with a lot of people. There clearly is someone else who could get smart enough to be a US senator and take his place. But that's the story there. One thing real quick, is this the one year two year anniversary, two year annivers since the attack at Butler, Pennsylvania. It seems that local law enforcement did a very good job of noting there was somebody odd doing something odd in the general area. There are more than one hundred radio transmissions about seemingly the gunmen, and these all were ignored by the United States Secret Service, which, to be honest with you, has this unfortunate tendency every now and again to end up looking like a bunch of clowns in a circus. Okay, no disrespect to clowns. I appreciate Secret Service. You know, our family has people who work for the Secret Service, and but this is you know, you gotta do a lot better than that. Lads and lasses, radio Mike Odin, the Engineer to the stars up these these this way. You went often saw a big concert last week, sir.
00:03:58
Speaker 1: Huh, Yes, I went to Syracuse to see Vince Gill.
00:04:03
Speaker 2: How was it good?
00:04:04
Speaker 1: He played for like three and a half hours.
00:04:06
Speaker 2: That's long, right, it is?
00:04:07
Speaker 1: Indeed, that is I think maybe the longest concent I've ever been to.
00:04:13
Speaker 2: Wow. Some people don't have the stamina. Most people don't have the catalog. Right, he has both. Yeah, it was three and a half hours of music and it didn't get old for you? No nottstanding? What sort of music? What sort of people with him? Please?
00:04:30
Speaker 1: Oh? Country bluegrass for the most part.
00:04:36
Speaker 2: He with that high tenor and he's also going to be a man of a certain age. How's his voice? Ours? His stamina?
00:04:43
Speaker 1: His voice is fantastic. He just turned sixty nine.
00:04:45
Speaker 2: Wow, and still good. You took your mom, Yes, yeah, this was a gift for her.
00:04:52
Speaker 1: Yes, the the tickets ati concert where a gift? Where a birthday gift to her?
00:04:57
Speaker 2: That's outstanding.
00:04:58
Speaker 1: You're a good son and I and I So we went there and we got back robin midnight, and I took maybe a I wouldn't even call it sleep, maybe like an hour and a half nap, and I got up and I rolled into here. You came to work the next morning.
00:05:16
Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, I admire that. I I admire that. Tell me why you did that.
00:05:23
Speaker 1: Because for the entirety of last week I was running the WAM morning news.
00:05:30
Speaker 2: But you could have said, I've got something going I I can't make it.
00:05:34
Speaker 1: Actually, I couldn't upset that because I'm the only one trained on it.
00:05:37
Speaker 2: Yeah, but you could have said it, but you didn't say it because you're conscientious, right. You knew you were the only one trained on it. You knew that the the city, that the work environment depended on you. And do you put its interests above your own? Yeah? Sure, no, I admire that. I admire that. There may not be a lot of that going around radio. Mike, you know what I'm saying. Well, that's tremendous. But but your mom enjoyed it too. Yes, okay, So what's the protocol? Three and a half hour concert? People have to go to the bathroom? What happens here? Now?
00:06:12
Speaker 1: Well she went at the theater. I didn't go until it came back home.
00:06:18
Speaker 2: You know, it's a what two hour drive from Syracuse?
00:06:21
Speaker 1: Yes you will.
00:06:23
Speaker 2: And you're you live on the west side, don't you. Indeed you live on the non Syracuse side of Rochester. Yes, good for you, stud Good for you. What was the venue?
00:06:32
Speaker 1: Where was it it was at? It was at it was at the on Center.
00:06:35
Speaker 2: Okay.
00:06:37
Speaker 1: That is a very interesting theater. On the inside. I don't know if you've ever been in there, but it looks like something out of an eastern Black country.
00:06:47
Speaker 2: It's a funny thing outside that the on center of it. That's sort of like their war memorial.
00:06:54
Speaker 1: Yes, kay.
00:06:55
Speaker 2: And in fact if on the outside it has battle names and such like that. I've only been an inside at once for for a foot race over there, but it is, uh, it is from an earlier day.
00:07:06
Speaker 1: It is indeed, you know.
00:07:09
Speaker 2: Okay, acoustics in there, very good acoustics. Yeah, very good acoustics. That's tremendous.
00:07:13
Speaker 1: That the the sound a venue is very good.
00:07:17
Speaker 2: But a great time.
00:07:18
Speaker 1: Yes.
00:07:19
Speaker 2: Are are you a Vince Skill fan?
00:07:21
Speaker 3: Normal?
00:07:21
Speaker 2: I mean, do you listen to a lot of his stuff?
00:07:22
Speaker 1: Yes? Yes, So that that that goes back to My aunt was a massive Vince Skill fan. Uh huh and uh beck when her and my mother you know, still talked way back in like the nineties, that's pretty much all they would play.
00:07:37
Speaker 4: Huh.
00:07:38
Speaker 1: So I got very accustomed to all all his hits, at least for that decade.
00:07:42
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, uh yeah, and again that he's not always this way, but he has that high tenor voice. Yes, that's uh, that's beautiful.
00:07:51
Speaker 1: It's it's the most unique voice in all of country music.
00:07:54
Speaker 2: Yeah. This I mention to you this as a question. I I'm not smart enough to assert it. I've always thought a little bit that Vince Gill, Marty Stewart, and oh my gosh, I'm missing the third guy's name. It'll come to me bluegrass guy, long hair old now. But the guys who started out very young, play a lot of instruments, stuck with it forever, who like really dedicated their lives to music, because Vince Gill has been in this since he about puberty times. Yes, yeah, I can't think. I feel bad I can remember the third name. Anyway, Well, good for you guys. Did you go out to eat her something beforehand?
00:08:41
Speaker 1: We did not, Okay, no, we didn't have time. Drove over there, drove back, drove over there, drove back because you had to work to day. I had a fretzel, Yes, I had a pretzel at the venue.
00:08:51
Speaker 2: Okay, I was forty dollars right there, right just about you dip it in melted cheese. What do you do?
00:08:55
Speaker 1: There was no Melta cheese available.
00:08:57
Speaker 2: I'm sorry, Yeah, I have a pretzel and shut up exactly. Okay, thank you. Could I get some extra salt please? Lindsey Graham, what's your thoughts on his passing?
00:09:18
Speaker 5: Yeah?
00:09:18
Speaker 1: Shocking.
00:09:19
Speaker 2: Yeah, didn't see it coming.
00:09:21
Speaker 1: That was I woke up yesterday morning. It was like, holy crap. Yeah, yeah, because everybody was expecting it was gonna be Mitch McConnell. Everybody expect nobody had heard or seen him in like a month.
00:09:32
Speaker 2: No, everybody expected Mitch McConnell was already dead, right, and they just didn't tell us.
00:09:35
Speaker 1: But we were expecting like the announcement of it eventually.
00:09:39
Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. Nobody had Lindsey Graham ahead of Mitch McConnell in there. No cool, No, nobody had that. Yeah. Did you for half a moment wonder hold they did they kill him? Yes?
00:09:51
Speaker 1: Yes, I was thinking, Okay, he was just in Ukraine. He was at a drone factory. I wonder if anybody from Russia it was in the vicinity and stuck them with something. Yeah, because they tended they that that's the thing that they like to do.
00:10:07
Speaker 2: Right, They've done it repeatedly. They have, and it can be just like the slightest drop of something, or the adult rate of product or something like that. Right, Yeah, No, I immediately immediately thought, And to be honest with you, I hope that there were two or three people in the autopsy. I'm saying, yes, I'd like multiple witnesses events. Okay, could I see the a order not to be a jerk, but let's just be sure.
00:10:29
Speaker 1: Let's get a close look at that.
00:10:31
Speaker 2: Well, because they just to make sure, just to make sure, because they I mean, like I ran once to kill people. I think Russia could kill people. Yes, yeah, yeah, Mitch.
00:10:43
Speaker 1: McConnell, Well he's allegedly alive. Yeah, we haven't actually heard his voice or anything yet.
00:10:54
Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, put on a shirt and pretend to smile and yeah, I god bless. He needs to move on. Needs to be somebody else.
00:11:04
Speaker 1: I don't know why the Republicans are are being so tight whipped about everything. I don't understand why they're so open arms about this. The Senate race A is going to be won by a Republican down there anyways. Also, according to their own laws, they have to the governor has to appoint somebody of the same party. So I don't know why the total doesn't.
00:11:26
Speaker 2: Change, right, Right, it's going to be this many votes for Republican no matter what.
00:11:31
Speaker 1: Yeah, their constitution says you have to replace the outgoing senator with one of the same party, which makes sense. What exactly is the problem here?
00:11:41
Speaker 2: His he go. But I think after, you know, after a certain point, somebody's got to say, okay, buddy, it's okay. Yeah, precisely, double pudding for you. We need to do something, right, got a country to run. Dominic Pazzola. Yeah, as a practical matter, it makes no difference, but it does clear his record. He now no longer has a conviction, and so can on a gun or you know whatever like that. Yeah, you know it's ye, Dominic Pazzola, I would not have commuted or whatever else like that. We we see him. He was the poet. He in some ways, he was one of a handful of very visually identifiable people. Yes, right, as he's trying to smash in that window with his longer gray hair, with the police shield. That was one of the dominant faces of January.
00:12:41
Speaker 1: So of course that doesn't matter if the Trump or anybody in the administration or anybody the Justice Department because he was on quote unquote their side.
00:12:47
Speaker 2: Oh stop it right now, stop it right now. Yeah I was I yeah, I was surprised.
00:12:53
Speaker 1: I wasn't.
00:12:54
Speaker 2: But oh, stop it right now. All the joy you found, evinced Gill. You've lost this political discussion here, sir. What about do you see the video where the buffalo chases the man by Yellowstone?
00:13:07
Speaker 1: Yes?
00:13:08
Speaker 2: What do you think about that?
00:13:09
Speaker 1: Don't get close to freaking animals like that?
00:13:11
Speaker 2: Well, here's the deal. The photographer who says he later put down the camera and goes and chased away the buffalo with others. The cameraman says, nobody was crowding the buffalo. The buffalo was having a I want a mate, having a bad day.
00:13:26
Speaker 1: Okay, don't get close to the animals. Well, but obviously he was too close to the animals. If if the animal can charge you, you're too close.
00:13:35
Speaker 2: Okay, I see where you're coming from. You're within range, you're within the effective range exactly based off male buffalo. Well, here's what I closed up, that he can kill you. You're too close by By not going by, not going to Yellowstone, I have I have kept myself safe from Buffalo. That tush for me too, Yeah, very good. Here's the thing, that poor man running around those trees. Though. Fortunately the kid gets away okay, but grandpa sixty five years of age, a little bit of weight. Those suspenders didn't help. The beard slowed him down. He ends up with several broken bones. But according to the photographer guy, as they're waiting for the ambulance, Grandpa was conscious and he was telling jokes and you know, trying to make light of it. But he's luck he didn't land on his head. He would have broken his head exactly. Yes, that was almost a fatality. Jeepers, creepers. You know, here's the thing, Mike Radio, Michael Olden over here, I had. You know, sometimes I feel gloomy about we killed all those buffalo No no, I think those orange bastards might have had it coming. They should have turned around and said, listen, I will shoot you and cut your tongue out, leave you to rot on the planes.
00:14:43
Speaker 1: All right.
00:14:44
Speaker 2: That's how my people roll. Don't mess with me, Bison. Anything else going on in the world. You're doing okay?
00:14:51
Speaker 1: Yeah for the most part.
00:14:51
Speaker 2: Are you back to work in a regular schedule this week?

Speaker 2: Sam Jay?
00:16:46
Speaker 1: And where the hosts of everyone watches Women's uh in our family.
00:16:50
Speaker 2: My daughter Sophie Man, she left here. I don't know how many years ago, it might have been twelve or thirteen or fourteen. Uh her uh sweet husband. He graduated from high school on Saturday night Letchworth and Sunday drove him over to the army in processing station, and then Monday he flew off on a plane. We saw him next the day he graduated from infantry school basic training, and there was a break in the middle of the day and he and Sophie, with a bunch of a Simmer family, we went down to the courthouse there and was it Columbia, Georgia, And they got married by the judge on his lunch break, and we hit a quick lunch at the buffet to celebrate, and then we had to drop her husband off for a paratrooper school, which commenced that very afternoon. And they spent his years in the army hopscotching around a little bit Texas, North Carolina. He went about every war they had back then, and the last several years five or six or seven, he's been a police officer down in Nashville, Tennessee, and they wanted to come home. He has found employment up this way. They closed on selling their house down there last week, and he's been up here getting training for a while for his new job, and she and their kids will arrive today and they will be New Yorkers, and of course our quest, their quest to find a house will pick up significantly. They'd like to have that squared away in time for the new school here. They will find a house and they will, I suspect thereby find a hometown for their kids as they grow. So we're pretty excited about that. My son Lee, for ten years has been in the employee of the federal government. He had a break for about a year or so hosting a radio show in Salt Lake City, Utah. But he's this is the last full day of his employment by the federal government, and he's making a transition that is beyond over my head to comprehend what exactly he'll be doing. But so that's a big change for him. He'll still be living much of the time in Washington, d C. My daughter, Blue Eyed Ellie has she's over there in Africa in Zambia on an archaeological dig they had. They have a camp outside of a village. It's in a very remote part it's you know, they don't have like Christie out that way and such. But at the camp they separate the men or they've got their camp and the women have their camp. And because reflecting the values of the people, it's a very Christian area at any rate. So a couple of nights ago, and the professors and the students are it's about equal number of each and they are from universities in the United States and universities in Africa, and most of the young men are are African university students. And the other night the young men run from their camp over into the women's camp and they are very agitated. They say that there are witches in the woods and that they have smoke and something sinister is happening in there. These are young African men though university students, I think some of them grad students. But there there's somebody in the woods and moving around in smoke, and they thought it was witches. In their cultural context and framework, you know, peopleould be out at night would be witches. And with the smoke and something, they were certain that some you know, spell or curse or something like that was being cast on somebody. And they were excuse me, very agitated and worked up. So a couple of the American female college professors say, it's there aren't any witches. Well, you're okay, and no, there's something. So these two women they hike out into the woods over by the men's camp to see what's going on. And they ended up being gone like a real long time, and the the male students were sure that the witches had gotten the professors. The females were pretty sure that the female professors were hiding in the woods to try to scare people or whatever. But ultimately the two professors come back and here's what it was. Over there. There was a beekeeper in Africa with wild bees. You go over there, apparently, and you smoke them a lot. That makes them a little more docile, and then you take the honeycomb from their hive, which may well just be inside a tree or something along those lines, and you do it at night over there, because they're thinking, is the bees are more docile In America, beekeeping is different, and you do it during the day because most of the bees are gone at any rate. So the professors went out there found not a witch but a beekeeper, and then they spent a couple hours literally with the beekeeper learning about what he was doing, you know, and a great cultural opportunity. So there was that. Also there's one of the girls students. Female students is Muslim, a practicing Muslim. And the meat that they have every day, they'll have like this corn based starch product, and there'll be some they'll call it stew. There'll be some meat that goes with that. And they don't have like refrigerators there, so you'll notice like in the morning there's some'll be chickens or something like that running around, and that night you'll have chicken for supper, and or maybe there'll be a goat running around in the morning and that night you eat goat. But the deal is the Muslim girl was observant of her religion. And I don't want to mischaracterize this out of ignorance, but you'll see the word hell a sometime. Part of halal is that meat must be butchered in a certain way, have religious guidelines. And the deal is that it's a very very Christian area, and you know, the cook just goes out and kills whatever they're going to eat that night and uh and prepares it. But it's you know, it's it's not done in the halal fashion, so she, you know, faithfulness to her religion, she couldn't eat it. So here's here's what they did. See practical solutions. She talked to the cook, looked up on the internet how to butcher a goat, for example, in a halal acceptable fashion, and uh, one day, while you others were, you know, doing the archaeological dig, the college student lady, the Muslim girl, she butchered the goat for that day according to you know, her religion, and uh, you know aating instructions off the internet, and she got it done and was able to have some protein. So what a wonderful, wonderful adventure. My daughter Hannah is with a bunch of her friends and their family spending a week on Long Island doing what Westchester County people do, I guess. And my daughter Aubrey, who's down at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, she left this morning for two weeks in the field, which means, you know, playing war games out where they don't have air conditioning, which has got to be a lot of fun in the middle of July and North Carolina. So that's basically the report from home back with you in a moment with listeners on the loose on news radio Wham eleven eighty.

Speaker 2: Here's the thing that's that is from another era. Right now, I think Caucasian males are doing pretty well. If it was three years ago, the answer would be well being gay with help.

00:14:53
Speaker 1: I should be yes, that's outstanding.
00:14:55

00:16:45
Speaker 8: Is she girl?
00:16:45
