ABOUT THIS EPISODE
Anger, fear, anxiety, sadness, even happiness can hit hard and fast, and a lot of us were taught to either hide it or muscle through it. That works until it doesn’t, and then we end up emotionally hijacked at work, at home, or in our own heads. I walk through Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as a practical approach to emotional regulation for men, especially when the feelings are intense but life still requires you to lead.

We get into what acceptance really means: naming the emotion without judging it, invalidating it, or turning it into a character flaw. I break down cognitive defusion so you can step back and remember that thoughts are thoughts and emotions are emotions, not your identity. Then we move into presence and awareness, because awareness brings data and data helps you make informed decisions instead of reactive ones.

From there, we talk values-based living and committed action, the idea of “commitments over feelings” without pretending the impact isn’t real. I share the two hands on the wheel metaphor to keep emotions in the car but not in the driver’s seat, plus the RAIN tool (Recognize, Allow, Investigate, Nurture) you can use the moment your body starts to heat up. If you want better communication, stronger boundaries, and healthier coping skills, press play, then subscribe, share with a friend, and leave a review with the value you’re choosing to live by.

00:00:00.080 --> 00:00:00.560
So what's going on?
00:00:00.640 --> 00:00:04.080
I just want to welcome y'all to another episode of the Black Men Embracing Feelings podcast.
00:00:04.240 --> 00:00:18.160
And for this particular episode, what I want to do here, and I also start to do is provide more practical tools that can assist in helping us men manage and navigate difficult emotions.
00:00:18.320 --> 00:00:26.800
And one of the therapeutic approaches that I want to talk about in this particular episode is called the acceptance commitment therapy approach.
00:00:27.039 --> 00:00:38.719
And the uniqueness of this particular therapeutic intervention or approach is that it focuses a lot more of within the name of it, just being able to accept, right?
00:00:38.960 --> 00:00:43.759
Being able to sit with difficult emotions, being able to be mindful.
00:00:44.000 --> 00:00:49.920
Because in order to be able to manage and navigate difficult emotions, we first have to be aware of them, right?
00:00:50.079 --> 00:01:05.599
We first have to be able to sit with them, not to fight it, not to wrestle with it, not to attach anything to it outside of just saying, like, hey, this is anger that I'm experiencing, right?
00:01:05.680 --> 00:01:14.640
Or this is frustration that I'm experiencing without labeling it as anything, without labeling it as negative, positive, or anything like that.
00:01:14.879 --> 00:01:21.760
It's being able to say, I'm experiencing anxiety right now in this moment.
00:01:21.840 --> 00:01:22.719
I'm anxious.
00:01:22.879 --> 00:01:23.920
Just call it out.
00:01:24.319 --> 00:01:24.799
Name it.
00:01:24.879 --> 00:01:28.239
And it kind of and it goes back to say it's hard to hear what we don't reveal.
00:01:28.400 --> 00:01:31.599
It's hard to move past something that we're not willing to name, right?
00:01:31.680 --> 00:01:36.239
It's hard to even provide a strategy around something that we're not willing to face.
00:01:36.400 --> 00:01:40.000
So go over some of the core principles of acceptance and commitment therapy.
00:01:40.159 --> 00:01:42.079
Um, the first one being acceptance, right?
00:01:42.159 --> 00:01:49.359
Kind of what we just mentioned is being able to sit with and accept the reality that this is something that I'm experiencing.
00:01:49.439 --> 00:01:57.680
And this is key because again, a lot of us men, we don't want to acknowledge and admit that this is something that we're experiencing or this is what it is, right?
00:01:57.840 --> 00:01:59.680
I don't want to acknowledge and admit that I'm afraid.
00:01:59.920 --> 00:02:01.439
Let's keep it above, let's keep it real.
00:02:01.680 --> 00:02:08.240
I don't want to acknowledge and admit that this next move that I'm about to make brings about anxiety.
00:02:08.479 --> 00:02:08.879
Why?
00:02:09.039 --> 00:02:10.960
Because I'm gonna look like a punk if I say that.
00:02:11.120 --> 00:02:12.639
I want to be caught scared, right?
00:02:13.919 --> 00:02:16.000
Like, yeah, what's your confidence that?
00:02:16.080 --> 00:02:16.719
You ain't a man.
00:02:16.800 --> 00:02:18.400
Like, how like what are you afraid of?
00:02:18.479 --> 00:02:19.039
Just do it.
00:02:19.120 --> 00:02:21.039
And that's also something that people do too.
00:02:21.199 --> 00:02:24.719
It's like when I say something in regards to like, yo, man, like I ain't gonna lie, man.
00:02:24.800 --> 00:02:26.479
This is this is I'm afraid of this.
00:02:26.639 --> 00:02:28.400
It's like, yo, man, what you gotta be afraid of?
00:02:28.479 --> 00:02:30.240
It's like, that's not what I'm looking for, though.
00:02:30.319 --> 00:02:39.199
I'm looking for somebody to sit with me in this moment and to recognize that with me, provide space for me to just work out my thoughts, right?
00:02:39.759 --> 00:02:43.520
To work out my feelings, to just let me explain myself, right?
00:02:43.680 --> 00:02:46.080
Let me, you know, validate this experience.
00:02:46.159 --> 00:02:51.520
Like, but the minute somebody says, yo, don't be afraid of that, man, you're invalidating what I'm experiencing as if I shouldn't feel it.
00:02:51.599 --> 00:02:52.639
But our emotions are real.
00:02:52.800 --> 00:02:53.840
Don't invalidate this.
00:02:54.000 --> 00:02:57.039
And again, this is where that therapeutic space comes into play.
00:02:57.120 --> 00:02:57.919
And it's so important.
00:02:58.080 --> 00:03:00.639
I encourage you, you know, to seek out a therapist.
00:03:00.800 --> 00:03:06.639
It is not a therapist, somebody that is able to navigate and see you and sit with you, right?
00:03:06.800 --> 00:03:10.240
And not just try to move you past these things so quickly, right?
00:03:10.319 --> 00:03:17.680
That that's that's harmful and that's not giving you the proper time, right, to really sit with yourself, view yourself, analyze yourself.
00:03:17.759 --> 00:03:23.439
And this acceptance commitment therapy, therapeutic approach allows for that to take place, right?
00:03:23.599 --> 00:03:27.759
For us to just accept that, yo, I'm afraid or be happy.
00:03:28.479 --> 00:03:35.199
And how many, how often do we rob ourselves of the opportunity to experience happy emotions?
00:03:36.000 --> 00:03:43.599
How often do we rob ourselves of the opportunity and the time, right, to just sit with the fact, like, yo, I just got this job.
00:03:43.919 --> 00:03:47.919
But no, what we do is I just got this job, now I gotta prepare for this, now I gotta plan for that.
00:03:48.080 --> 00:03:53.039
And I recall when my therapist sat with me and he pretty much laid it out as well.
00:03:53.120 --> 00:03:55.120
And I was just like, yo, I just got this new job.
00:03:55.199 --> 00:03:56.159
I don't know what to do with it.
00:03:56.240 --> 00:03:57.039
I'm anxious about it.
00:03:57.120 --> 00:04:01.280
And he's like, Joe, have you done this job before?
00:04:01.599 --> 00:04:02.800
And I'm like, no.
00:04:03.680 --> 00:04:05.199
So what are you preparing for?
00:04:05.360 --> 00:04:06.400
I'm like, I don't know.
00:04:06.560 --> 00:04:08.000
He's like, that's the point.
00:04:08.400 --> 00:04:10.000
Like, just be present.
00:04:10.319 --> 00:04:11.199
Be present.
00:04:11.439 --> 00:04:15.759
When that opportunity and those moments come for you to learn something, you learn something.
00:04:15.919 --> 00:04:20.000
When that failure moment or moment, but you missed the mark comes, you miss the mark.
00:04:20.160 --> 00:04:20.879
Learn from that.
00:04:21.120 --> 00:04:23.040
Allow those things to come up, right?
00:04:23.120 --> 00:04:32.240
But don't go into overprotection mode and all of that kind of stuff because you're robbing yourself of the moment to just sit and be like, yo, be happy that you got the job.
00:04:32.560 --> 00:04:38.399
It's okay to sit with a happy emotion without having to flood it with other negativity.
00:04:38.639 --> 00:04:45.439
Acceptance and commitment therapy helps us just sit with what we're experiencing, what we're feeling.
00:04:45.680 --> 00:04:49.199
Another core principle of it is cognitive diffusion.
00:04:49.519 --> 00:04:56.000
And that's helping us step back from what it is that we're experiencing to just observe it.
00:04:56.240 --> 00:04:58.720
Like your thoughts are thoughts, right?
00:04:58.879 --> 00:05:00.639
Your emotions are emotions.
00:05:00.800 --> 00:05:02.879
Don't attach anything to it.
00:05:03.120 --> 00:05:05.839
Just look at it, view it as that.
00:05:06.079 --> 00:05:11.120
So, for example, you know, say like this is the feeling or emotion of anger.
00:05:11.360 --> 00:05:12.560
Let it be anger.
00:05:12.800 --> 00:05:18.959
Don't associate anger with negativity and aggression and all of those types of things.
00:05:19.120 --> 00:05:24.959
We're cognitively diffusing, removing, depersonalizing as well, right?
00:05:25.199 --> 00:05:28.560
What comes with those labels that we place on it.
00:05:28.959 --> 00:05:31.040
So anger is anger.
00:05:31.920 --> 00:05:33.120
I'm angry.
00:05:33.839 --> 00:05:35.040
That's my experience.
00:05:35.199 --> 00:05:36.240
That's what I'm feeling.
00:05:36.399 --> 00:05:39.839
Now, what we do in that makes the difference.
00:05:40.000 --> 00:05:42.720
And that's where that awareness comes into play.
00:05:42.879 --> 00:05:49.279
And that's where that other principle of the next principle of, you know, just being present, right, comes into play.
00:05:49.439 --> 00:05:54.800
Just helping us stay aware of what we're experiencing, how we attach.
00:05:55.040 --> 00:06:03.120
I can't say I'm afraid because what we attached to afraid is, you know, I'm less than, I'm incompetent, I don't, I don't have the capabilities, I don't have the skills.
00:06:03.360 --> 00:06:10.560
So we're afraid to say that we're afraid because what we attach to the word or to the words of fear and being afraid.
00:06:10.800 --> 00:06:14.480
But when we start to just see afraid, it's just, I'm afraid.
00:06:15.120 --> 00:06:16.399
That's a natural emotion.
00:06:16.560 --> 00:06:22.560
When I'm about to experience something that I never experienced before, and I'm concerned about, you know, the negative results that may come.
00:06:22.720 --> 00:06:26.399
That strikes up fear in me, you know, not knowing what will come.
00:06:26.560 --> 00:06:28.160
That's anxiety, right?
00:06:28.319 --> 00:06:29.519
That's anxiousness.
00:06:29.680 --> 00:06:32.720
And then there's fear with it, right?
00:06:32.959 --> 00:06:34.879
And just letting that just exist.
00:06:35.279 --> 00:06:40.639
And when we're present with that, we're able to be aware and right, and it don't pass judgment.
00:06:40.800 --> 00:06:43.920
And again, like we pass judgment on us being afraid.
00:06:44.079 --> 00:06:44.879
We can't do that.
00:06:45.040 --> 00:06:46.560
Well, I don't say we can't, right?
00:06:46.720 --> 00:06:49.839
Be mindful of doing that and what comes with that.
00:06:50.000 --> 00:06:52.000
And that's where our awareness comes into play.
00:06:52.160 --> 00:06:54.879
And again, our awareness brings data, right?
00:06:54.959 --> 00:06:57.279
And our data helps us make informed decisions.
00:06:57.439 --> 00:07:03.439
So when we say I'm afraid and we attach negative emotions to it, observe what that does to us.
00:07:05.040 --> 00:07:11.920
We want to be able to just say I'm afraid and then letting that word be the word, letting that word be the experience.
00:07:12.079 --> 00:07:14.560
So we can name what it is that we're feeling.
00:07:14.639 --> 00:07:21.360
And once we name it, right, we acknowledge it, we give respect to it, then we can make informed decisions.
00:07:21.680 --> 00:07:25.199
And then the next one is we don't look at ourselves as context, right?
00:07:26.240 --> 00:07:31.199
Developing a perspective of ourselves separate from our thoughts, separate from that.
00:07:31.279 --> 00:07:35.680
It's just like, hey, this is just me experiencing these things, right?
00:07:35.920 --> 00:07:39.439
Like I, I, I am experiencing these things, right?
00:07:39.519 --> 00:07:41.360
Like I am not fear.
00:07:41.759 --> 00:07:44.240
We want to depersonalize, separate that.
00:07:44.399 --> 00:07:52.000
I am not weakness, I am not anxiety, but it's an experience, it's an experience that I'm having, right?
00:07:52.079 --> 00:07:54.639
It's a feeling that I'm experiencing.
00:07:54.879 --> 00:07:58.160
But I myself am not anxiousness, right?
00:07:58.480 --> 00:08:00.720
I am not an anxious person.
00:08:01.040 --> 00:08:02.720
That's a label, right?
00:08:02.879 --> 00:08:05.120
Again, we don't want to label things.
00:08:05.199 --> 00:08:07.680
We just want to observe it, say what it is.
00:08:08.240 --> 00:08:11.759
But then the last or one of the last principles is values.
00:08:12.319 --> 00:08:26.959
So after we name it, after we recognize it, after we observe ourselves, we'll spile still maintaining the authenticity of us, then we start to make value-based decisions.
00:08:27.759 --> 00:08:31.680
We want to identify what do we value, what truly matters, right?
00:08:32.080 --> 00:08:34.720
Despite the fear, what truly matters?
00:08:35.360 --> 00:08:37.919
What do we prioritize in us?
00:08:38.159 --> 00:08:46.720
Maintaining an understanding of that within us so that we can move towards making value-based decisions in spite of what we're feeling.
00:08:47.120 --> 00:08:57.679
I'm angry and then upset at you, but because I value this relationship, despite my anger, or even in my anger, I will still speak to you with respect.
00:08:58.000 --> 00:09:03.279
But I can still let you know that what you said and what you did, you know, makes me upset.
00:09:03.360 --> 00:09:04.399
It's disappointing.
00:09:04.720 --> 00:09:04.960
Right?
00:09:05.120 --> 00:09:06.159
It broke my heart.
00:09:06.480 --> 00:09:07.279
It hurts.
00:09:08.320 --> 00:09:11.200
But I'm still able to make value-based decisions.
00:09:11.360 --> 00:09:15.279
And then the last part of it, which goes in the name, is the committed action.
00:09:16.159 --> 00:09:22.480
How am I making value-based decisions that's helping me become the man, right, that I'm striving to be?
00:09:22.879 --> 00:09:24.720
Who is that man that you're becoming?
00:09:25.519 --> 00:09:38.639
What will that man that you're becoming choose to do in this particular situation to help you make a value-based decision as you experience the emotions that's difficult to manage?
00:09:39.200 --> 00:09:41.039
That's difficult to accept.
00:09:41.759 --> 00:09:55.600
How will the man that I'm becoming, the father that I want to be, the husband that I want to be, the brother, the friend that I want to be, handle a difficult situation where I feel betrayed, I feel hurt, right?
00:09:55.840 --> 00:09:57.440
What would that man do?
00:09:57.679 --> 00:10:01.039
And how will that man appreciate these actions that I'm taking now?
00:10:01.360 --> 00:10:03.519
What am I committed to doing?
00:10:03.840 --> 00:10:06.159
And it's commitments over feelings.
00:10:06.559 --> 00:10:11.200
Yes, I feel this way, but I'm committed to still loving you, right?
00:10:11.440 --> 00:10:13.600
I'm committed to still showing up.
00:10:14.000 --> 00:10:16.240
But that's not to say ignore the impact.
00:10:16.399 --> 00:10:23.759
We're still going to deal with, right, and address these behaviors for sure, right?
00:10:23.919 --> 00:10:29.440
But I'm still staying committed to the things that I'm striving for, right?
00:10:29.600 --> 00:10:32.399
The values that I'm upholding myself to.
00:10:32.720 --> 00:10:41.039
So in work, when we come across those situations where the boss gets on our nerves or that coworker is just not listening, that upsets me, right?
00:10:41.200 --> 00:11:00.399
I'm gonna allow myself to feel that and I'm gonna pay attention and be mindful of how anger, right, causes my blood to boil, as they say, causes me to ball up my fists, as they say, causes me to want to say some harmful cuss words and things of that nature, throw things, right?
00:11:01.039 --> 00:11:10.879
But as I'm aware of that, then I have that moment to actually pause and say, what is that value-based decision that I want to make, even in the midst of my anger?
00:11:11.279 --> 00:11:15.279
And I'll use this analogy again of the car situation, right?
00:11:15.440 --> 00:11:24.399
Like you, the goal, ultimate goal is to be able to in life keep two hands on your will, if not one, right?
00:11:24.720 --> 00:11:26.799
But at least keep two hands on your will.
00:11:27.200 --> 00:11:37.039
And in your vehicle, you're allowing yourself to hear and experience anger, joy, frustration, sadness, right?
00:11:37.200 --> 00:11:58.480
But in the midst of all of these emotions, as you witness them, as you experience them, as you accept their existence in your life, right, we're still making value-based decisions to keep two hands on the wheel and allow ourselves to navigate our life the way that we desire for it to be navigated and not be emotionally hijacked.
00:11:58.559 --> 00:12:08.320
Because again, when anger takes the wheel, it's gonna cause us to go 100 miles per hour in a 20 mile per hour zone, swerve, hit a tree, hit a car, right?
00:12:08.559 --> 00:12:13.200
And then at that moment, anger is gonna hop out because at that moment we blacked out, right?
00:12:13.360 --> 00:12:16.799
But then our right mind, right, gets back into the driver's seat.
00:12:16.879 --> 00:12:21.360
Now we have to answer for everything that took place because we allowed anger to take the wheel.
00:12:21.759 --> 00:12:23.519
We allow sadness to take the wheel.
00:12:23.600 --> 00:12:26.960
And again, it's not to say don't feel these things, don't experience these things.
00:12:27.120 --> 00:12:31.279
It's just saying, hey, yes, the loss of my loved one, I'm sad.
00:12:31.679 --> 00:12:33.840
I'm not happy right now, I'm sad.
00:12:34.240 --> 00:12:40.559
And if this sadness contributes to me crying, I'm gonna accept that and allow that to take place.
00:12:41.440 --> 00:12:43.360
It's okay to sit with our emotions.
00:12:43.440 --> 00:12:46.399
It's okay to allow our emotions to exist.
00:12:47.279 --> 00:12:49.840
We don't have to run from our emotions, right?
00:12:50.000 --> 00:12:51.840
They're a natural part of life.
00:12:52.080 --> 00:13:05.919
But the more that we avoid our emotions or deny its existence, right, the more the more susceptible we become to being emotionally hijacked and out of control, out of balance.
00:13:07.200 --> 00:13:13.600
So one tool that is helpful in this is called uh it's an acronym called RAIN.
00:13:13.759 --> 00:13:17.919
And the R in RAIN stands for recognize, right?
00:13:18.159 --> 00:13:22.559
Just recognize what's taking place, recognize what you're experiencing, right?
00:13:22.720 --> 00:13:24.879
Recognize what's going on, right?
00:13:25.039 --> 00:13:26.320
Stay alert, stay aware.
00:13:26.480 --> 00:13:29.279
And then that A stands for acceptance.
00:13:29.360 --> 00:13:30.000
Just accept.
00:13:30.159 --> 00:13:32.320
Be able to accept, right?
00:13:32.480 --> 00:13:33.360
What's happening?
00:13:33.440 --> 00:13:40.480
I'm accepting that as I'm recognizing what's going on, paying attention to my body, I'm accepting that anger exists.
00:13:40.639 --> 00:13:44.639
I'm accepting that hurt exists, I'm accepting that disappointment exists.
00:13:44.799 --> 00:13:51.440
These these difficult, negative, these difficult emotions, challenging emotions to sit with, they exist.
00:13:52.080 --> 00:13:56.159
So we got the R, R is recognized, A is to accept.
00:13:56.320 --> 00:13:57.600
Now let me investigate.
00:13:57.840 --> 00:13:58.399
That's I.
00:13:58.960 --> 00:13:59.840
What's going on?
00:14:00.159 --> 00:14:01.600
What's contributing to that?
00:14:02.480 --> 00:14:03.919
Why am I feeling this way?
00:14:04.240 --> 00:14:05.519
What just took place?
00:14:06.879 --> 00:14:07.759
What happened?
00:14:07.919 --> 00:14:08.960
What triggered this?
00:14:09.120 --> 00:14:12.320
And then after we investigate that, we want to nurture it.
00:14:13.039 --> 00:14:14.799
How do we speak life into it?
00:14:15.519 --> 00:14:20.320
How do we remind ourselves like, hey, is it understandable for you to feel upset?
00:14:20.960 --> 00:14:23.519
It's understandable for you to feel disappointed.
00:14:23.679 --> 00:14:29.200
It's understandable for you to believe that you've been let down, right?
00:14:29.519 --> 00:14:35.519
After you tried hard or time and time again to put yourself out there, right?
00:14:36.480 --> 00:14:38.080
It's understandable.
00:14:38.559 --> 00:14:40.799
But let me speak to that, let me nurture that.
00:14:40.879 --> 00:14:43.759
Let me remind myself who I am, right?
00:14:43.919 --> 00:14:46.320
Let me remind myself of my values.
00:14:46.480 --> 00:15:00.639
I remind myself of the things that I still have so that these negative emotions don't win and that they don't become us, they don't define us, that we don't start to, you know, personalize them.
00:15:00.879 --> 00:15:08.240
Again, we want to cognitively diffuse, right, all of the other associations that we have with this so we don't run from it.
00:15:08.480 --> 00:15:09.440
We recognize it.
00:15:09.679 --> 00:15:12.320
I don't want to run from saying that I'm afraid anymore.
00:15:12.559 --> 00:15:18.960
Because when I run from saying I'm afraid, I present this persona, right, or this image that I have everything together.
00:15:19.039 --> 00:15:22.000
And then I then I don't allow myself to get the help that I need.
00:15:22.399 --> 00:15:32.320
And that's not fair to myself, that's not fair to you, and that's not fair to those that are counting on you to be the best version of you, to be the leader, right?
00:15:32.960 --> 00:15:45.279
Because it's misleading if the leader is presenting themselves as if they're perfect, they have all the answers, they're doing the work, they're doing the research, they're analyzing everything, and we're not.
00:15:45.759 --> 00:15:46.399
Why?
00:15:46.639 --> 00:15:48.960
Because we're afraid to say that we don't know.
00:15:50.720 --> 00:15:52.480
Let's diffuse, right?
00:15:52.639 --> 00:15:56.879
Separate ourselves from saying that, saying that we're afraid is weakness.
00:15:57.120 --> 00:15:59.200
Asking for help is weakness.
00:16:00.399 --> 00:16:04.480
Let's remove ourselves from that and remember who we are, right?
00:16:04.639 --> 00:16:10.720
Identify the values in you, identify the positives in you, identify those things in you, and they exist.
00:16:11.039 --> 00:16:15.440
So when it comes time to those difficult emotions, they don't hijack us, right?
00:16:15.919 --> 00:16:16.879
And win.
00:16:17.200 --> 00:16:28.879
So we no longer have to feel or think or believe that we have to have like this two-faced split personality navigating through hoops in each and every encounter that we have with somebody.
00:16:29.039 --> 00:16:35.279
We can show up our full, authentic, vulnerable self, all of our emotions.
00:16:35.440 --> 00:16:46.799
Again, we're in this vehicle with all of these experiences, all of these feelings, but now we have the ability to name them, to label, or to name them, not label them, but just to name them, right?
00:16:47.039 --> 00:16:57.679
Identify them, but still be able to choose how to respond to them in the way that's aligned with our values and align with the man that we're becoming.
00:16:57.919 --> 00:17:11.920
And this is where that workbook, the man that you're becoming, right, is so important for us to be able to sit down and reflect, right, on ourselves, check in with ourselves and ask ourselves how we're doing, right?
00:17:12.079 --> 00:17:15.519
Asking ourselves what we're still healing from, right?
00:17:15.759 --> 00:17:26.720
Giving ourselves that love, that care, that attention that we need, checking in with ourselves so that we can get so that we can be the best man that we can be.
00:17:26.960 --> 00:17:41.519
So that when it comes down from us coming from work, right, and then going home, we've had that opportunity to sit in the car and identify what's going on so that when we come into the house with our loved ones, we're not carrying all of that and projecting.
00:17:41.680 --> 00:17:44.960
We're being able to communicate and they're asked, hey, how was your day?
00:17:45.200 --> 00:17:47.359
My day was rough, my day was difficult.
00:17:47.599 --> 00:17:59.920
This took place, but I'm still able to come in here with a loving heart or acknowledge these things and ask you and ask you, you know, so that you can help provide me with the things that I need.
00:18:00.079 --> 00:18:00.960
That, hey, I need a hug.
00:18:01.039 --> 00:18:01.839
Today was hard.
00:18:02.000 --> 00:18:04.079
Or I just need a minute, right?
00:18:04.160 --> 00:18:05.200
Before I get in here.
00:18:05.359 --> 00:18:12.880
Or, you know, baby, this smile, this love, your attention, all of that is so meaningful for me at this moment because I just had a hard day.
00:18:13.119 --> 00:18:21.519
But if we don't allow ourselves to sit and accept these difficult emotions while also making that commitment to ourselves and implementing this rain acronym.
00:18:21.599 --> 00:18:28.000
And again, that's to be able to recognize, accept, investigate, and then nurture, right?
00:18:28.079 --> 00:18:31.279
You know, these emotions, then it'll be hard for us to show up.
00:18:31.440 --> 00:18:33.920
And that's not, again, that's not fair to ourselves.
00:18:34.079 --> 00:18:35.599
That's not fair to our loved ones.
00:18:35.920 --> 00:18:40.799
But they're asking for and expecting all of us to show up.
00:18:41.039 --> 00:18:52.000
And forgive me, in it, I just got to the end of this, and I do want to make that correction that the A and Ring, it's not acceptance, it's allowed more specifically, right?
00:18:52.160 --> 00:18:54.319
Um, which is the principle of acceptance.
00:18:54.480 --> 00:18:57.119
We want to allow the emotions to exist.
00:18:57.279 --> 00:18:58.720
We don't want to ignore them.
00:18:58.880 --> 00:19:05.200
We give them permission to exist, right, in our space, in the space that we're in, right?
00:19:05.359 --> 00:19:07.200
So that we can investigate them.
00:19:07.359 --> 00:19:14.880
But if we keep pushing them away and we don't accept its existence, right, then we're not able to make those value-based decisions.
00:19:15.039 --> 00:19:16.480
And then we're lying to ourselves.
00:19:16.640 --> 00:19:20.079
We're prevent, we're presenting a false sense of self, which is not fair.
00:19:20.240 --> 00:19:25.680
So again, this recognize, allow, investigate, and then nurture.
00:19:25.839 --> 00:19:26.160
All right.
00:19:26.240 --> 00:19:27.119
I hope this was helpful.
00:19:27.279 --> 00:19:28.559
Again, my apologies for the error.
00:19:28.640 --> 00:19:29.920
Um, but y'all be blessed.
00:19:30.319 --> 00:19:37.839
You know, leave a comment, follow me on Instagram, social media, and as well, purchase the book, The Man That You're Becoming, which is out there on Amazon.
00:19:38.000 --> 00:19:38.960
Appreciate you listening.
00:19:39.119 --> 00:19:40.559
Y'all be blessed, and we'll talk soon.
