ABOUT THIS EPISODE
2 Chronicles 20 explained. King Jehoshaphat faces a vast enemy army and discovers that victory belongs to the Lord.
When Moab, Ammon, and their allies march against Judah, Jehoshaphat proclaims a fast and gathers the people to seek God. In his prayer, he admits their helplessness, declaring: “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.”
God responds through Jahaziel, promising that Judah will not need to fight this battle. The people worship, and singers go before the army praising God. Their enemies turn against one another, and Judah gathers the spoils without having to win the battle by its own strength.
Yet the chapter ends with a warning: Jehoshaphat later allies himself with wicked King Ahaziah, and his ships are destroyed.
2 Chronicles 20 teaches us to seek God in times of fear, trust His power, and remember that past victories do not remove the need for continued faithfulness. The chapter ultimately points toward Jesus Christ, the victorious King in whom God's people find their lasting hope.
