ABOUT THIS EPISODE
Temptation comes from our own desires, not from God. James chapter 1, verse 14 says each person is tempted when their own desire lures and entices them, and James chapter 1, verse 13 says God cannot be tempted by evil and tempts no one. The Greek word behind "lust" means a longing for what is forbidden. Feeling tempted is not the same as sinning; sin begins when we yield to the pull.
In part six of our verse-by-verse journey through the book of James, David McIntyre and Phillip Rich, with host/producer Jon Dzyuba, dig into James chapter 1, verses 13 and 14. Why would a God who tells us to flee sin tempt us into it? The Skittles test shows how upside-down that picture is. The guys unpack the Greek word for "lust" as a longing for what is forbidden, from the Garden of Eden to today, and separate temptation from sin. They also talk about how sin can tie up the strong man, why believers should bring their brains to the table when reading the Word and sorting through online noise, and what Jesus meant by wolves in sheep's clothing. In What's in the Cup?, David shares Red Barn Coffee Roasters Autumn Delight with a crushed clove, Jon pours a Stok pumpkin cold brew, and Phillip brings a mocha from Foxtail.

Quick answers:
Q: Where does temptation come from, according to James?
A: From our own desires. James chapter 1, verse 14 says each person is lured and enticed by their own desire. The enemy can push buttons, but he needs something in us to push.
Q: Does God tempt people to sin?
A: No. James chapter 1, verse 13 says God cannot be tempted by evil and tempts no one.
Q: Is being tempted the same as sinning?
A: No. Temptation is the pull. Sin comes when we yield to it, as James chapter 1, verses 14 through 15 describe.

TRANSCRIPT 🔗
00:00:00.160 --> 00:00:02.640
We have been talking about the book of James.
00:00:02.799 --> 00:00:08.560
We're going on a verse-by-verse journey through this amazing, small but very powerful book.
00:00:08.720 --> 00:00:13.359
And uh, as many of you know, James is considered to be the proverbs of the New Testament.
00:00:13.599 --> 00:00:32.399
And we're gonna continue that journey tonight and talk about temptation and about what James says about the way that temptation and sin actually begins versus what can what uh what types of results can come from that process of you know the seed of lust on into the manifestation of sin.
00:00:32.560 --> 00:00:33.359
It's gonna be great.
00:00:33.439 --> 00:00:34.960
I'm not gonna spoil it all right now.
00:00:35.119 --> 00:00:37.920
Just stay tuned for this episode of Bible Bros and Bird.
00:00:58.560 --> 00:01:02.240
Hello and welcome to this episode of Bible Bros and Brew.
00:01:02.399 --> 00:01:07.519
My name is Philip, and of course, with me I have the illustrious David McIntyre right here.
00:01:07.760 --> 00:01:13.359
And I've got the equally illustrious John Zuba over on this side.
00:01:13.599 --> 00:01:19.120
And we are here tonight, or whatever time you might be viewing this, to talk about the book of James.
00:01:19.200 --> 00:01:27.760
We've been on a series uh where we're digging into the book of James, starting with, of course, with chapter one, and we've been journeying through verse by verse.
00:01:28.319 --> 00:01:31.359
The reason why I'm kind of laughing is because we haven't gotten that far yet.
00:01:31.519 --> 00:01:49.280
Um, we've only done maybe like the first 12 verses, but one thing that you'll discover, especially like if you if you're just take time to read the scripture and go through uh verse by verse, always, no matter how many times you've read the Bible, there's something new to be learned.
00:01:49.439 --> 00:02:17.360
Like it could be a thing where you've read a certain verse or a certain chapter, it could be dozens or hundreds of times, and then the next thing you know, there's that one thing, that one word that sticks out, that one phrase that just grabs you on a given time when you read through it, and it's like, I never saw it that way before, or I just never even noticed that particular word before, whatever the case is, and it sends you on a journey where you start cross-referencing and looking up definitions and so forth and so on.
00:02:17.439 --> 00:02:21.280
And next thing you know, you're on a whole treasure hunt through the Bible.
00:02:21.520 --> 00:02:26.560
So um, that's what we love about the scriptures here at Bible Bros and Brew.
00:02:26.800 --> 00:02:37.759
And that's what we want to um focus this whole series on is getting through the book of James, going verse by verse, and explaining some of these amazing concepts and principles that James talks about.
00:02:38.000 --> 00:02:48.879
Now, if you haven't listened to the episodes or watched the episodes from previous weeks, we strongly encourage you to do so because we, of course, started at James 1, verse 1.
00:02:49.039 --> 00:02:56.719
And some of the things we've covered from that time include like uh the importance of patience, um how to ask for wisdom.
00:02:56.879 --> 00:03:02.159
We talk about uh standing up or resisting or bearing up under temptation.
00:03:02.400 --> 00:03:08.879
All kinds of cool things came out that some of it obviously we weren't even expecting to cover, but that's the beauty of this thing, man.
00:03:09.039 --> 00:03:13.439
Um we just read the scripture and let the Holy Spirit direct what we're doing.
00:03:13.759 --> 00:03:17.759
So in this particular episode, we're down to, I believe, verse 13.
00:03:17.919 --> 00:03:28.159
So we're gonna start talking about the famous, famous passage in the book of James when he talks about uh how every man is tempted when he's drawn away of his own lust.
00:03:28.240 --> 00:03:33.599
And when lust conceives, it brings forth sin, and sin brings forth death, and so forth and so on.
00:03:33.680 --> 00:03:36.800
So we're gonna jump into that in just a couple of seconds.
00:03:36.960 --> 00:03:43.520
But before we do that, we always have to kick off, of course, with our famous question here on Bible Bros and Brew.
00:03:43.759 --> 00:03:45.759
What is in the cup?
00:03:55.360 --> 00:03:56.719
Let's start with you, John.
00:03:56.800 --> 00:03:58.400
What's in your cup tonight, man?
00:03:58.800 --> 00:03:59.439
Shoot.
00:03:59.759 --> 00:04:04.800
Well, Phil, I was inspired by you.
00:04:05.280 --> 00:04:10.240
I meant to bring this out last week, um, but I felt like it wasn't the right time.
00:04:10.400 --> 00:04:18.000
So this week I decided to uh to bring out something that Phil originally brought up in the first place.
00:04:18.079 --> 00:04:18.639
Come on now.
00:04:18.959 --> 00:04:19.680
There we go.
00:04:20.560 --> 00:04:24.319
Yeah, loving it, dude.
00:04:24.480 --> 00:04:24.879
Boom.
00:04:24.959 --> 00:04:26.639
I I feel like I want to keep it in frame.
00:04:26.720 --> 00:04:27.279
You know what it is.
00:04:27.360 --> 00:04:28.959
You can generally tell what it is right here.
00:04:29.040 --> 00:04:29.439
There we go.
00:04:29.600 --> 00:04:30.000
Oh, yeah.
00:04:30.160 --> 00:04:39.439
Uh when I saw it, uh like I instantly remembered that you were drinking it, and I not that I went out of my well, actually, no, I did.
00:04:39.519 --> 00:04:42.720
I did go out of my way to go look for this when I saw it.
00:04:43.040 --> 00:04:48.399
Um, I'm not gonna lie to you, because I thought I just ran into it and saw it and wanted it.
00:04:48.480 --> 00:04:54.399
But then I remember very specifically going out of my way, the cold brews and picking this up.
00:04:54.639 --> 00:04:57.600
It looked amazing when you tried it, and then I tried it.
00:04:57.759 --> 00:05:05.839
Um I I wish I wish I had like that sacred moment the same way you know we we tried the coffee for the first time here.
00:05:06.160 --> 00:05:11.120
But um, if I'm being completely honest with you, dude, there's like maybe this much left.
00:05:11.360 --> 00:05:11.839
Come on.
00:05:12.079 --> 00:05:17.439
Oh my god! I have been drinking it for past almost two weeks now.
00:05:17.680 --> 00:05:18.079
Uh huh.
00:05:18.399 --> 00:05:26.160
Let me tell you, drinking coffee like regular hot coffee is great, it doesn't always work for me.
00:05:26.720 --> 00:05:31.199
Cold brew, oh different story.
00:05:31.360 --> 00:05:32.720
It's like jet fuel.
00:05:33.040 --> 00:05:34.639
It's money in the bank, if you will.
00:05:34.800 --> 00:05:36.480
I'm telling you, dude.
00:05:37.519 --> 00:05:38.800
That's so funny, dude.
00:05:39.120 --> 00:05:40.000
I was go ahead, Johnny.
00:05:40.079 --> 00:05:40.240
Go ahead.
00:05:40.319 --> 00:05:40.639
I'm sorry.
00:05:40.800 --> 00:05:45.920
No, I was just gonna say every time I drink it, like I'm I'm wired, like I'm locked in.
00:05:46.079 --> 00:05:54.480
I remember I had like a lot one day, and I didn't, and it was like I didn't realize how potent it was, and so I'd just be sipping it like throughout the day.
00:05:54.720 --> 00:05:57.600
Um dude, that was a great day.
00:05:57.680 --> 00:05:59.600
I got a lot of work done that day.
00:06:00.399 --> 00:06:03.680
That's uh it's a productivity hack, if you will.
00:06:03.920 --> 00:06:13.680
Yeah, so if y'all are wondering, it's the and I didn't say what it was, it's the Stoke Cold Brew pumpkin pumpkin season, hashtag pumpkin season szn.
00:06:13.920 --> 00:06:15.680
Come on down with the SZN.
00:06:16.079 --> 00:06:19.439
That's right, omg hashtag pumpkin season.
00:06:19.600 --> 00:06:23.519
Um, and it's got a little creamer in there, pre pre-creamed, if you will.
00:06:23.680 --> 00:06:27.839
Pre-creamed, if you will, shaken, not stirred, it's beautiful.
00:06:28.079 --> 00:06:40.480
Yes, and you know, John, I don't know uh if I said anything about this last time, I forgot, but when we were doing the episode where I had it, I just kept refilling my cup the whole time we were doing the episode.
00:06:40.720 --> 00:06:45.199
I'm telling you, dude, like right now, um once I'm done with this first cup.
00:06:45.360 --> 00:06:49.759
If y'all see the this motion right here, just just just let it happen.
00:06:49.920 --> 00:06:51.680
Don't don't worry about it, okay?
00:06:52.000 --> 00:06:52.480
Amen.
00:06:52.879 --> 00:06:53.279
Amen.
00:06:53.759 --> 00:06:54.720
Good stuff, man.
00:06:54.879 --> 00:06:55.360
Good stuff.
00:06:56.160 --> 00:06:56.480
David.
00:06:56.959 --> 00:07:06.000
Now, David, I heard that you had a special coffee and a special ingredient in your coffee that you wanted to share with us, ladies and gentlemen.
00:07:06.160 --> 00:07:18.079
Tonight, yes, I bring to you yet another coffee in my seasonal train of wonderful fall coffees.
00:07:18.639 --> 00:07:18.959
Come on.
00:07:19.279 --> 00:07:22.160
We've done maples, we've done pumpkin spice.
00:07:22.399 --> 00:07:34.480
Last week I bought you van pumpkin vanilla from this company, which we all know was a delicious sip, even though I might have been the only one to take it at that time.
00:07:35.120 --> 00:07:44.319
Tonight I'm bringing back a favorite from last season, and it is Red Barn Roaster's Autumn Delight.
00:07:46.160 --> 00:07:47.040
Come on.
00:07:48.240 --> 00:07:53.519
Now, I think before I described Autumn Delight as like pumpkin spice without the spice.
00:07:54.160 --> 00:07:57.600
Let me be more clear in my communication about this.
00:07:57.920 --> 00:07:58.240
Okay.
00:07:58.560 --> 00:08:05.680
This has graham cracker, French vanilla, cinnamon, and gingerbread.
00:08:06.800 --> 00:08:11.759
Oh my god! This is a lovely cup of coffee.
00:08:11.920 --> 00:08:21.680
And for I've been watching some videos, and um I have started doing something new with my coffees that have actually enhanced them.
00:08:21.839 --> 00:08:44.639
I've been crushing a clove and putting that clove in my cup and letting my coffee pour over it and and melt it and let it become a part of the cup, and it has enhanced my coffee experience over the last week, like nothing else that I've had, maybe besides heavy whipping cream.
00:08:46.080 --> 00:08:53.039
So I would highly recommend Autumn Delight from Red Barn Coffee Roasters.
00:08:53.440 --> 00:09:02.240
And I would recommend you start crashing, and it's just simple, just get a spoon, crush that clove, break it up as much as possible.
00:09:02.399 --> 00:09:02.480
Okay.
00:09:05.279 --> 00:09:14.720
That way I can scrape all the goodies off into my cup, and then just pour or brew your coffee on top of that, depending on the kind of coffee machine that you have.
00:09:14.960 --> 00:09:18.080
It's a lovely, lovely cup of coffee.
00:09:18.240 --> 00:09:26.000
And as you can imagine, it has made me quite conversational, and I believe it'll do the same for you.
00:09:26.240 --> 00:09:33.759
Come on now, come on now, bone appetite, and then just that clove talking.
00:09:33.919 --> 00:09:36.000
Yeah, that's the clove talking right there.
00:09:36.159 --> 00:09:43.120
Yeah, that clove is good, and the clove, by the way, if you just do your little research, the clove has health benefits for you.
00:09:43.279 --> 00:09:44.159
Oh, for sure.
00:09:44.480 --> 00:09:50.879
So you need it'll it'll add a little put a little something in your system that will help you to get to where you want to go.
00:09:50.960 --> 00:09:53.279
So come on, do some research, look that up.
00:09:53.440 --> 00:09:53.759
Yeah, man.
00:09:54.000 --> 00:09:54.720
How about you, Philip?
00:09:54.799 --> 00:09:55.919
What are you drinking?
00:09:56.240 --> 00:09:59.200
Dude, I decided to go local today.
00:09:59.440 --> 00:10:00.639
Oh, yeah.
00:10:00.799 --> 00:10:01.120
Hold on.
00:10:01.360 --> 00:10:02.639
Can we get a moment of silence?
00:10:02.799 --> 00:10:04.960
Because this I mean, this is we please.
00:10:05.120 --> 00:10:09.279
Can we please the world starts shattering for a second?
00:10:09.360 --> 00:10:13.200
I just want to make sure we're all prepared for what could possibly happen.
00:10:13.519 --> 00:10:21.600
Oh man, you know, I it's not often that you'll see me on this podcast with anything but Peregrine, as you guys know.
00:10:21.919 --> 00:10:33.200
But there is a local coffee shop, and some of you guys may have already heard of this place because it's they have several locations all over who knows where, but it's a coffee shop called Foxtail.
00:10:33.360 --> 00:10:36.000
You guys are familiar with Foxtail at all?
00:10:37.759 --> 00:10:39.120
Ah, okay.
00:10:39.360 --> 00:10:47.200
Well, it's it's it's all over the place down here, uh, in the Peachtree City, Fayetteville, Noonan, Sharpsburg type of locale.
00:10:47.360 --> 00:10:49.039
But it's a cool little spot, man.
00:10:49.120 --> 00:10:52.399
Here's the cup, it's got an F for Foxtail, of course.
00:10:52.720 --> 00:10:56.240
And they make a pretty doggone good mocha, dude.
00:10:56.320 --> 00:11:01.120
I'm a mocha fan, like I'm I'm doing mocha when I go to local coffee shops, you know.
00:11:01.440 --> 00:11:07.679
Peregrine, I don't add anything to it nor take away from it because it is sacred as the word is sacred.
00:11:07.919 --> 00:11:11.919
Um, but sorry, sorry, I'm I'm joking.
00:11:12.080 --> 00:11:16.399
But uh with whenever I go to a coffee shop, I typically order a mocha, dude.
00:11:16.480 --> 00:11:20.559
That's like the the thing that I try to get just to see if they can can hang.
00:11:20.960 --> 00:11:24.240
But um, this here, shout out to Foxtail.
00:11:24.399 --> 00:11:35.600
It's a cool spot too because it's only like 10 minutes from our house, and sometimes my daughters and I, and occasionally the wife, you know, uh will go up there to to work and to do our thing.
00:11:35.679 --> 00:11:41.120
So it's fun little spot to kind of just you know get on the keyboard and lock in a little bit, you know.
00:11:41.279 --> 00:11:43.759
So once again, shout out to Foxtail.
00:11:43.840 --> 00:11:49.840
You guys are the um boom.
00:11:50.240 --> 00:11:53.519
Okay, all right, that's I think we did that okay.
00:11:53.679 --> 00:11:55.120
So praise God.
00:11:55.279 --> 00:12:01.759
Um, so anyway, so that is what is in the cups for everyone.
00:12:01.840 --> 00:12:07.120
Now we're gonna talk about, of course, what is in the word and specifically what is in the book of James.
00:12:07.519 --> 00:12:11.279
We, of course, have been, like we said, journeying through the book of James.
00:12:11.360 --> 00:12:14.639
We're on verse 13 of chapter one.
00:12:15.600 --> 00:12:22.639
And I know we've done some backtracking in a couple of episodes to talk about, you know, kind of an overview of what we went over before.
00:12:22.879 --> 00:12:33.519
I'll try to keep it as synopticized as possible for this, but um, we talked about uh remaining steadfast under trial.
00:12:33.679 --> 00:12:34.960
That's one of the things we mentioned.
00:12:35.039 --> 00:12:36.000
That's from verse 12.
00:12:36.080 --> 00:12:39.039
We talked about asking for wisdom and the importance of wisdom.
00:12:39.200 --> 00:12:40.399
That's from verse five.
00:12:40.559 --> 00:12:44.960
And we talked about counting it all joy when you fall into different temptations and trials.
00:12:45.039 --> 00:12:48.320
That's actually like the first maybe two or three verses of James.
00:12:48.480 --> 00:12:49.840
He just jumps right in, dude.
00:12:49.919 --> 00:12:53.440
He doesn't have long introductions, he just jumps right into his topics, you know.
00:12:53.600 --> 00:13:08.240
Um, but in this situation, or in this uh not this situation, this episode or this podcast, we're going to talk about verses 13 and I believe 14 of James chapter one.
00:13:09.200 --> 00:13:12.159
And we'll just start with those.
00:13:12.639 --> 00:13:18.799
Um it says, Let no one say when he is tempted.
00:13:20.080 --> 00:13:26.639
Uh I guess I should mention verse 12 now that I'm looking at it, because it kind of sets up verse 13.
00:13:26.799 --> 00:13:30.080
Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial.
00:13:30.480 --> 00:13:36.639
For when he has stood the test, he'll receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.
00:13:36.879 --> 00:13:42.240
Dude, that's dope that we get a crown for resisting temptation and being able to endure through temptation.
00:13:42.320 --> 00:13:43.519
I think that's pretty cool.
00:13:43.759 --> 00:13:51.200
Uh, and like we talked about sometime or another, I'm sure, whatever crown we get, we're gonna cast it at Jesus' feet at the end of it all.
00:13:51.360 --> 00:13:53.919
So that's gonna be another cool thing we do too.
00:13:54.240 --> 00:14:04.480
But um, so the whole passage here, the whole kind of theme that James is setting up from verse 12 is enduring under testing, enduring under temptation.
00:14:04.639 --> 00:14:06.399
And then we get to verse 13.
00:14:06.639 --> 00:14:09.759
Let no one say when he is tempted.
00:14:10.080 --> 00:14:13.919
So it's not really a question of if you're gonna be tempted, it's when, right?
00:14:14.240 --> 00:14:16.639
Let no one say when he's tempted.
00:14:16.960 --> 00:14:19.120
I'm being tempted by God.
00:14:19.840 --> 00:14:30.720
And we talked a lot about the religious kind of perception of you know, God tempting people into sin and how completely biblically incorrect that is.
00:14:31.039 --> 00:14:35.440
But um, he said, let no man say when he's tempted, I'm tempted, being tempted by God.
00:14:35.679 --> 00:14:49.200
For God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself, in case you're wondering, he himself tempts no one, not a single person has ever been tempted into sin by the hand of God.
00:14:49.679 --> 00:14:50.879
Does not happen.
00:14:51.200 --> 00:14:52.000
Does not happen.
00:14:52.240 --> 00:15:02.559
Just just think of what that would look like if God is trying to tempt you into the very thing that he tells you to flee from.
00:15:02.799 --> 00:15:03.679
Come on, David.
00:15:03.840 --> 00:15:10.960
Yeah, you know, it that that would make first uh in its simplest form, that would make God crazy.
00:15:11.759 --> 00:15:13.759
Right, you know what I mean?
00:15:14.080 --> 00:15:26.720
To to say, to say, you know, for example, to try to bring you to get you to commit sexual sin, but then his word also says flee fornication.
00:15:27.200 --> 00:15:27.519
Right.
00:15:27.679 --> 00:15:28.559
No, make it make sense.
00:15:28.879 --> 00:15:31.840
How do you how would you trust that God?
00:15:32.240 --> 00:15:52.639
How would you how would you right-size that in your mind that the same God who tempts me is the same God who tells me don't do that, and then he tempts me to see if I will do it, and if I do do it, the same God who tempted me to do it, when I do it, punishes me.
00:15:52.879 --> 00:15:53.919
Oh boy.
00:15:54.879 --> 00:15:59.279
But then if I don't do it, it's the same God who rewards me.
00:16:00.320 --> 00:16:09.919
When we when we think about it in our natural mind, and even just think about it holistically, just even in our own experience, you know.
00:16:10.720 --> 00:16:23.279
Wouldn't it be wild for you to uh uh for example, you watch these videos, and I know they're meant to be funny and fun, but just let's just take it practically for a second.
00:16:23.919 --> 00:16:35.759
You say to your child, you leave a three Skittles on the table, and you say, Oh, so and so, um, I'm gonna leave these three Skittles here, we're gonna eat them when I get back, but don't eat them before I get back.
00:16:35.840 --> 00:16:39.360
Have you seen those videos where people leave stuff out?
00:16:39.840 --> 00:16:42.399
They do it to their dogs, they do it to their kids.
00:16:42.559 --> 00:16:45.039
You know, I'm gonna leave this here, but don't eat it.
00:16:49.600 --> 00:16:56.000
And then when the kid eats it anyway, you understand why.
00:16:56.080 --> 00:16:58.879
You're like you left a bunch of Skittles in front of a kid.
00:16:59.279 --> 00:17:02.000
Right, they're going to eat the Skittles, right?
00:17:02.240 --> 00:17:07.039
Sometimes the kid doesn't do that, and you're like, Oh, look at that kid's self-control.
00:17:07.359 --> 00:17:26.640
But now when you take a step back further, and if the parent was God, then you'd say, God is tempting this kid, and we'll chastise him if he eats the candy, and then we'll say, ha ha ha, what a wonderful child you are if he doesn't eat the candy.
00:17:27.839 --> 00:17:33.920
You guys, this is this is the same thing as as we're gonna see in chapter two or chapter three.
00:17:34.079 --> 00:17:40.559
You know, this is good and sweet water and salty water coming out of the same fountain.
00:17:42.000 --> 00:17:46.000
And James says, My brothers and sisters, that ought not to be.
00:17:46.559 --> 00:18:10.079
Right, we God's not, we're we're we're creating the we're making God this double-minded, unstable being in our lives, and then we're twisting our own minds around to believe that that's the way he is to justify it, and nobody ever stops and say, you know what?
00:18:10.240 --> 00:18:13.680
That's absolutely unjustifiable behavior.
00:18:14.079 --> 00:18:16.079
God would not do that to me.
00:18:16.240 --> 00:18:18.480
And Philip, I'll throw one other thing at you.
00:18:18.640 --> 00:18:29.759
I think that one of the reasons, and this just is a David McIntyre thought, there's no, I'm not spouting off any, you know, content that I've read or anything like that.
00:18:30.000 --> 00:18:44.880
I don't think that the reason why God doesn't isn't tempted and doesn't tempt anybody is because he's not tempted and enticed, therefore, he does not do what does not happen to him.
00:18:46.000 --> 00:18:46.720
Right, right.
00:18:47.039 --> 00:18:55.119
There's nothing in this world that may sound weird, but there's there's nothing in this world God is looking at like, oh I want that.
00:18:55.759 --> 00:18:56.160
Right.
00:18:56.640 --> 00:19:03.359
And then now we did see we saw it happen to Jesus, right?
00:19:04.640 --> 00:19:20.000
God's son, yeah, and yes, those three are one, but the devil thought that he could tempt Jesus with primarily with stolen goods, right?
00:19:20.240 --> 00:19:24.480
Right, and offer to return to him that which he had stolen.
00:19:26.240 --> 00:19:33.599
But Jesus could walk away from that because he already knew that he was getting it back.
00:19:34.559 --> 00:19:34.880
Yeah.
00:19:35.359 --> 00:19:52.480
So there was, I would say, even though the scripture says, and he tempted him for the 40 days and 40 nights, I don't believe that was a temptation to Jesus, because Jesus already knew where this thing was going, and he knew that he was going to get it back.
00:19:52.640 --> 00:20:00.400
I don't think Jesus was at the top of the mountain looking over the nations of the world and saying, Oh my god, oh my gosh, I want that so bad.
00:20:02.079 --> 00:20:07.920
I just gotta hold on to God's unchanging hands so I can get it, so the devil doesn't tempt me into taking it now.
00:20:09.200 --> 00:20:10.559
I just don't get that.
00:20:10.799 --> 00:20:11.920
I just don't see that.
00:20:12.000 --> 00:20:13.279
I don't see that sense.
00:20:13.440 --> 00:20:22.640
I could see Jesus up there saying, God rebuke you for thinking that you could bring this to me.
00:20:22.960 --> 00:20:26.240
What you don't know is I'm here to come and get that.
00:20:27.200 --> 00:20:29.039
And I'm taking it back.
00:20:30.079 --> 00:20:33.920
That's a completely different approach to the whole thing.
00:20:34.079 --> 00:20:36.960
So I don't think God can be enticed.
00:20:37.200 --> 00:20:41.119
Well, I know he can't be enticed and he can't be tempted.
00:20:41.359 --> 00:20:48.720
Uh, and so I don't imagine that he's going to try to use the tactics of the enemy, and that's the other thing.
00:20:48.960 --> 00:20:52.960
Those are the tactics of the enemy in order to do some good.
00:20:53.119 --> 00:20:54.640
And people do that all the time.
00:20:54.880 --> 00:21:10.079
They try to ascribe the tactics and behaviors and the ways of Satan to God in order to justify the way or the reason why certain things are the way they are, and that's no more true either.
00:21:10.400 --> 00:21:10.720
Nope.
00:21:11.119 --> 00:21:22.720
That's the same thing that Jesus basically rebuked the uh Pharisees for in Matthew 12, when they were trying to say, Oh, he's only casting out demons by way of bellzebove, the prince of demons.
00:21:22.960 --> 00:21:23.680
Correct.
00:21:24.000 --> 00:21:25.839
And Jesus said, Hey, hey, wait a minute.
00:21:26.000 --> 00:21:29.200
You know, every kingdom divided against itself won't stand.
00:21:29.359 --> 00:21:34.240
Uh, you know, uh uh if Satan tries to cast out Satan, his kingdom won't stand either.
00:21:34.480 --> 00:21:44.720
And so he was saying basically, don't try to ascribe to God or credit God, if you want to put it that way, for the works of the enemy.
00:21:45.200 --> 00:21:59.759
You know, and it's fascinating to me that if you read it in context, and I'm not gonna go bananas on this because we're I know we're on something else, but if you read it in context in Matthew 12, when he said that, he was like, you know, a house divided against itself.
00:22:00.160 --> 00:22:03.039
Can't stand, Satan can't cast out Satan.
00:22:03.279 --> 00:22:05.359
He said, and then he said, you know what?
00:22:05.440 --> 00:22:12.640
All manner of blasphemy will be forgiven unto men, but blasphemy against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven unto them.
00:22:13.920 --> 00:22:16.240
And I was like, wait a minute.
00:22:16.559 --> 00:22:25.759
Was he trying to say that attributing the works of God to the devil could be a type of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit?
00:22:27.599 --> 00:22:35.200
Because he said, if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God's come unto you.
00:22:35.519 --> 00:22:40.000
So he attributed casting out demons to the Holy Spirit.
00:22:40.880 --> 00:22:42.559
They were attributing it to Beob.
00:22:43.839 --> 00:22:45.759
And I'm like, was he trying to say?
00:22:45.839 --> 00:23:00.000
And I'm you know, hey, everybody do their research, but was he trying to say that cast that that that that act of attributing or speaking that the act of casting out demons is something credited to the devil instead of to the Holy Spirit?
00:23:00.160 --> 00:23:02.960
That could be a type of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.
00:23:03.119 --> 00:23:05.680
Now, that's just something that came to me, man.
00:23:05.759 --> 00:23:10.880
You know, yeah reading it in context, I'm like, okay, that might be something there, dude.
00:23:11.119 --> 00:23:16.480
But um Philip, I'll throw one other I'll throw one other thing about that same verse.
00:23:16.720 --> 00:23:21.119
Uh oh well, um, you you were talking about Mark 12, I mean Matthew 12.
00:23:21.279 --> 00:23:24.160
I'm gonna come at it from the Mark III version of it.
00:23:24.400 --> 00:23:43.680
Um, you know, it it says it it he says that you know in order to in order to do this to overtake the man you're going to have to first, you're gonna have to tie up the strong man, you're gonna have to you're gonna have to take him out.
00:23:44.319 --> 00:24:12.720
And I think that's a correlation to what we're talking about here in James, because God's not trying to take anybody out, and God's not in the same way that God is not casting out the devil by the devil, God's not using the tools and weapons of the enemy in order to do his business, and the only way that you can do that is for the enemy to come in and bind up the strong man.
00:24:12.880 --> 00:24:15.039
How do you bind up the strong man?
00:24:15.440 --> 00:24:28.160
Um you go through this process we're about to look at, where enticement and lust give way to sin, sin gives birth to death.
00:24:29.200 --> 00:24:38.000
It's that process that ties a man up and makes him feel as if he doesn't have a way out.
00:24:38.720 --> 00:24:41.359
And then you can destroy his house.
00:24:41.839 --> 00:24:44.559
You can destroy I I mean, just think about it.
00:24:44.720 --> 00:24:58.559
If you've ever been in sin before, you've one way to think about it is that's a time, at least in my life, when I've been in sin knowing, knowing I've been in sin, no known sin.
00:25:00.240 --> 00:25:05.440
I have never felt weaker and more disconnected from God.
00:25:06.559 --> 00:25:10.000
And it literally it feels like I'm beaten down.
00:25:10.240 --> 00:25:11.119
That's right, man.
00:25:11.359 --> 00:25:12.240
That's right.
00:25:12.640 --> 00:25:14.960
And that's what Satan comes in to do.
00:25:15.039 --> 00:25:20.319
That's one of the ways he tries to come and tie up the strong man.
00:25:20.559 --> 00:25:24.000
You are strong in the Lord and in the power of his might.
00:25:24.880 --> 00:25:40.880
But when you allow sin to creep into your life, it's like Satan's beating you down, and where you were this, you're still the strong man, but he's tied up the strong man, and you've got to deal with that sin in order to loose the chains that have bound you at that moment.
00:25:41.200 --> 00:25:43.359
And then we'll see here in just a moment.
00:25:43.440 --> 00:25:48.079
Because if you don't, then the outcome is death.
00:25:49.759 --> 00:25:51.920
My goodness, yeah, David.
00:25:52.000 --> 00:25:53.039
Good stuff, man.
00:25:53.359 --> 00:26:01.839
So back on verse 13, when he says, you know, God can't be tempted by evil, neither does he tempt anybody.
00:26:02.480 --> 00:26:11.680
But verse 14, each person is tempted when he's lured and enticed by his own desire.
00:26:12.160 --> 00:26:14.480
Woo! Oh my god.
00:26:15.440 --> 00:26:16.559
Oh my god, sound effect.
00:26:17.599 --> 00:26:19.039
So who's really the problem?
00:26:19.920 --> 00:26:24.400
No, I was just asking the the rhetorical here, like who's really the issue here?
00:26:24.799 --> 00:26:26.799
Who's really the issue here?
00:26:27.200 --> 00:26:37.839
You know, it's that's that's if we're being honest with ourselves, and it's hard to do sometimes, um, this temptation is something that's coming from within.
00:26:39.119 --> 00:26:57.279
It it may it may be uh exacerbated by what's external, but if there was nothing found in you, if there was no button that the enemy could push, then it would be no there would be no temptation, right?
00:26:57.920 --> 00:27:05.200
So there's something maybe and and of course James says drawn away of his own lust and enticed.
00:27:05.279 --> 00:27:17.759
And I want to make sure we make this point because a lot of times when you read this stuff in the King James, you think about the old uh, you know, the these this the English that it's written in is about 400 years old.
00:27:17.920 --> 00:27:26.240
And so some of the words, while they're the same spelling and everything, they don't mean exactly the same thing as they did 400 years ago.
00:27:26.480 --> 00:27:34.640
And this word lust is a good example of that, because the word lust, as we know it today, it definitely deals more along the lines of sexual lust.
00:27:34.799 --> 00:27:37.279
Like what most people use it in that context.
00:27:37.519 --> 00:27:50.559
But in the book of James, um and all over the New Testament and Old Testament, um, this word lust had a broader meaning, and it simply meant like uh a strong desire, a strong desire for anything.
00:27:50.720 --> 00:27:58.319
You know, it could be a lust for power, a lust for money, a lust for sex, a lust for whatever else, you know.
00:27:58.720 --> 00:28:04.400
And actually, the word lust in the Greek, uh it's fascinating.
00:28:04.480 --> 00:28:16.799
It's it's the Greek word epithumia, and it means a longing, especially for what's forbidden, a longing for what is forbidden.
00:28:17.519 --> 00:28:22.720
I find that fascinating because that is the original sin if you think about it.
00:28:22.880 --> 00:28:29.440
The same sin that Adam and Eve fell to in the garden was a lust or a longing for what was forbidden.
00:28:29.599 --> 00:28:37.920
God told them, Hey, look, you can eat of any fruit on any tree in this whole garden, but leave that one tree alone, don't eat the fruit from that one.
00:28:38.160 --> 00:28:39.440
And what did they go and do?
00:28:39.599 --> 00:28:53.920
Well, they they had some help though, because you know, Satan comes in the garden and he's like, Hey man, you know, I know what God just told you, but the only reason why he said that is because he knows that if you eat that fruit, you're gonna be like him.
00:28:54.400 --> 00:29:00.319
And the funny thing was is they were already like God, they were made in the image of God, right?
00:29:00.799 --> 00:29:05.680
So it was kind of an issue of not even maybe fully realizing their own identity.
00:29:05.839 --> 00:29:11.279
Um, I know that gets a little deep, but um, long story short, they ate what was for forbidden.
00:29:11.359 --> 00:29:17.119
They they partook of what was forbidden, and that became the first sin that started everything else.
00:29:17.440 --> 00:29:25.839
So here, when he says every man's tempted when he's drawn away of his own lust, that means he's drawn away of his longing.
00:29:26.000 --> 00:29:31.759
He's drawn away by way of the longing that he has for something that's forbidden.
00:29:32.079 --> 00:29:35.599
He's baited by that thing, he's enticed by that thing.
00:29:35.839 --> 00:29:40.720
There's something in him that feels the pull when he's presented with that thing.
00:29:40.880 --> 00:29:44.400
And if you really want to break down what temptation is, that's basically what it is.
00:29:44.480 --> 00:29:52.000
It's it's there's something in you responding to something out here that's kind of pulling you in in a direction.
00:29:52.720 --> 00:29:58.960
Now, you don't have to go the direction that things pulling you, but you feel the tug, right?
00:29:59.119 --> 00:30:00.640
You feel that pull.
00:30:00.880 --> 00:30:02.559
That's temptation.
00:30:02.799 --> 00:30:05.440
Now we we want to make sure we clarify this too.
00:30:05.599 --> 00:30:13.519
And I know David and I, we've talked about this many, many times in many, many episodes, but temptation is not sin.
00:30:14.640 --> 00:30:20.559
You know, you can feel tempted, but that doesn't mean you've sinned just because you felt tempted.
00:30:20.880 --> 00:30:22.160
That's correct.
00:30:22.559 --> 00:30:30.799
And it's it's funny, it's like you can think that you have sinned, but by how strong that feeling of temptation can be, right?
00:30:30.880 --> 00:30:39.200
Sometimes it's like, oh man, you know, you feel like you got to repent just for the you know how you felt about you know the temptation.
00:30:39.680 --> 00:30:50.799
But there's there's always that tipping point where you may be presented with something and you may feel that pull on your flesh to go that way.
00:30:51.039 --> 00:30:59.920
But if you use this this gray matter between your ears and you say, Nope, I'm not doing it, I'm not signing for that package, right?
00:31:00.160 --> 00:31:01.359
I'm not gonna do it.
00:31:01.599 --> 00:31:06.559
Next thing you know, uh the temptation may not immediately go away.
00:31:06.720 --> 00:31:10.640
You may not feel an immediate, just you know, like, okay, it vanished.
00:31:10.880 --> 00:31:14.799
You may have to fight a little bit, may have to sweat a little bit, whatever it is.
00:31:15.119 --> 00:31:25.599
But if you have resisted properly, then there will come a time, just like when Jesus was in the wilderness and it said, after he was tempted, Satan left him for a season.
00:31:25.839 --> 00:31:38.319
There will be that moment where that temptation finally subsides, and you realize, oh man, I was being pulled, but I didn't yield to it and I didn't respond the way that the enemy wanted me to.
00:31:38.480 --> 00:31:41.680
And so you've successfully fought that temptation off, basically.
00:31:41.920 --> 00:31:43.599
But then there's also the other side of it.
00:31:43.680 --> 00:31:44.400
Oh, go ahead, David.
00:31:44.480 --> 00:31:45.440
I'm sorry.
00:31:46.480 --> 00:31:47.680
Um, I hate to interrupt.
00:31:47.920 --> 00:31:49.440
I didn't mean I didn't want to interrupt your thought.
00:31:49.599 --> 00:31:50.400
Finish your thought.
00:31:50.640 --> 00:31:51.519
Oh, you're good, man.
00:31:51.839 --> 00:31:57.039
I was just gonna say uh on the flip side of that is the rest of James 114.
00:31:57.119 --> 00:32:09.119
So we can just hold on to that for a second if you want to go ahead and share what you actually want to I can I just tap into something you just said because you know I'm thinking about the world we live in right now.
00:32:09.759 --> 00:32:12.559
You guys, uh let me put on my glasses.
00:32:13.279 --> 00:32:19.200
Yes, time to get studious, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls.
00:32:21.440 --> 00:32:36.720
Philip said if you use that gray matter, let me tell you in the world that we're living in, we're we're seeing we're seeing something fascinating happen right now.
00:32:37.839 --> 00:32:43.599
And if you realize what it is, you'll see that it's Bible prophecy being fulfilled.
00:32:44.079 --> 00:33:01.839
One of the things the word tells us is that man would run to and fro in the earth, and and he well, but knowledge would run to and fro in the earth, that knowledge would double, you know, that it would just keep growing exponentially.
00:33:02.000 --> 00:33:13.519
Yeah, um, I forget the exact scripture, and please don't don't take what I just said as a direct quote because he wasn't, um but it's in the Bible for sure, right?
00:33:13.920 --> 00:33:18.319
But my point is is that we're is it in Ezekiel?
00:33:19.519 --> 00:33:21.519
I think it's Daniel, yes, Daniel.
00:33:21.599 --> 00:33:34.559
It's Daniel or Daniel, Daniel, yeah, but we're we're seeing with the advent of AI, we're seeing knowledge, we're literally seeing that happen.
00:33:35.119 --> 00:33:38.000
We're seeing knowledge double on itself.
00:33:38.720 --> 00:33:51.039
We're we're seeing, or at least if you're watching, you're noticing that even with just AI, that with every iteration of AI, it seems to be doubling its knowledge.
00:33:51.279 --> 00:34:08.960
And what that means is that for you, there's more and more information that's at your fingertips in various and sundry ways through your phone, through search, because all these things begin, all the things around begin to be augmented that you don't ask for.
00:34:09.039 --> 00:34:11.519
You don't ask for your phone to be augmented, but it is.
00:34:11.679 --> 00:34:19.360
You don't ask for search to be augmented, but it is all of these things are augmented, there's more and more and more knowledge.
00:34:20.480 --> 00:34:34.079
What I have come to learn in the last year is all knowledge is a not truth, it's just information that's out there.
00:34:34.480 --> 00:34:34.880
Amen.
00:34:35.280 --> 00:34:39.039
And the second thing is that all knowledge is not good.
00:34:39.840 --> 00:34:56.880
You know, one of the reasons we live in a scary world right now is that people are afraid because things that back in the day before we had all this stuff, we weren't privy to every single disaster that happened all over the world, right?
00:34:57.519 --> 00:34:57.840
Right.
00:34:58.159 --> 00:35:08.960
So we didn't see stuff, so we didn't walk around in fear of certain things happening because that wasn't always put in front of us.
00:35:09.280 --> 00:35:21.920
We weren't afraid of people in the same way because we weren't, you know, the seeing people reject people on the internet all the time that makes you scared to go and interact with people.
00:35:22.079 --> 00:35:30.400
There's so much information that's coming at you, and let me tell you, when it comes to the word, there is a lot of crap out there.
00:35:31.360 --> 00:35:45.119
There's a lot of people out there saying a lot of stuff that absolutely isn't true, it is born in their human mind and in their flesh, and they can take it and eat it and sleep it for all I care.
00:35:45.599 --> 00:36:09.920
But if you don't use this brain of yours and start reading this word, and then looking at this world and recognizing what's going on, and the way that you recognize is that as you're reading the word, you're seeing these things happen in the real world, and you're able to connect dots that other people are not connecting yet.
00:36:10.480 --> 00:36:20.719
Because the Bible will have you, as the kids say, up on game before everybody else even knows what's happening, right?
00:36:21.039 --> 00:36:27.679
And you'll be prepared in front of and ahead of people because you peep the word.
00:36:28.719 --> 00:36:38.079
But if you're not using your brain and thinking through this stuff, you'll let somebody come along and preach to you that you know God's gonna tempt you.
00:36:38.320 --> 00:36:48.480
And when God tempts you, you gotta make sure how you respond to God's temptation when we're just clearly looking at in this word right now that says God tempts no man.
00:36:49.920 --> 00:36:55.039
And you see how we need this word, but we also need our brain.
00:36:55.199 --> 00:37:01.440
We gotta put the pieces together, and you don't just say, I don't need this brain anymore.
00:37:01.519 --> 00:37:09.599
I'm just gonna read the word, and uh no, you need the brain because the brain helps you to process this word, it helps you to see things.
00:37:09.760 --> 00:37:16.480
I'm reading Ecclesiastes in my in my nighttime reading right now, and it's helping me.
00:37:16.639 --> 00:37:31.440
I'm I find myself sobering up in a way that I wasn't sober before because I'm looking around and seeing what's happening, and I'm like, yep, there's that, yep, there's that, yeah, people are doing this stuff right here.
00:37:31.519 --> 00:37:56.320
That's exactly what these scriptures are saying, and he gives us uh uh a prescription for it all, and so I start following that prescription because I'm reading the word and I'm seeing what the word is saying, and I'm using my brain power, I don't throw my brain away when I read the word, I bring my brain to the table.
00:37:56.480 --> 00:37:58.320
That's why I can look at something in the word.
00:37:58.559 --> 00:38:02.239
Philip can look at something in the word and say, you know what, that don't make sense to me.
00:38:02.559 --> 00:38:03.199
Right, right.
00:38:03.360 --> 00:38:06.079
It's not like God is somewhere saying, Oh my god, it don't make sense to him.
00:38:06.239 --> 00:38:08.800
Oh geez, what we're gonna do, we're gonna lose another one.
00:38:10.239 --> 00:38:12.480
That's just not the way it works.
00:38:12.639 --> 00:38:18.320
The answer will come if you'll just trust for God to bring you an answer, if you'll study and dig in.
00:38:18.480 --> 00:38:27.360
Sometimes the answer is just right below you in the notes about that scripture that are in that Bible, you know.
00:38:27.519 --> 00:38:37.760
So we just don't turn your brain off in this world because you'll let tools, if you're not smart, you'll let AI do all your thinking for you.
00:38:38.239 --> 00:39:02.320
Right, you'll you'll let all these other tools do your thinking, but you got that, it becomes powerful when you're the think thinker, when you're the thought driver, and so you got to keep your brain in the game, and God is not afraid of you keeping your brain in the game, He wants that because you're gonna be a sharper person as a result of this, and you're going to be again.
00:39:02.559 --> 00:39:07.920
We've talked a few weeks ago about being difficult to deceive.
00:39:08.400 --> 00:39:09.119
There you go.
00:39:09.280 --> 00:39:17.519
And the only way that you can get there is if you don't, if you turn your brain on and make sure that you're fully engaged in the stuff.
00:39:17.679 --> 00:39:18.639
I'm sorry, Philip.
00:39:18.880 --> 00:39:20.239
No, no, no, you're good, man.
00:39:20.320 --> 00:39:25.840
And and it goes right in line with first Peter 5 when he says, you know, be sober and be vigilant, right?
00:39:26.079 --> 00:39:27.199
Got to be, got to be.
00:39:28.079 --> 00:39:31.840
It's it's because there's so much deception out there right now.
00:39:32.079 --> 00:39:34.639
I mean, there's so much deception.
00:39:34.880 --> 00:39:48.960
People that present themselves a certain way, but they're, you know, well, I'll tell you, I was looking at Matthew 7 the other day, and when Jesus said that thing, and I had never seen it this way before, but it just came to me in a whole different way.
00:39:49.199 --> 00:39:50.320
Matthew 7.
00:39:50.559 --> 00:40:02.159
He said, Beware of false prophets who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravening wolves.
00:40:02.880 --> 00:40:04.960
Now, what's interesting to me, dude.
00:40:05.199 --> 00:40:07.360
I and John, if you could pull that verse up, man.
00:40:07.440 --> 00:40:10.880
I'd I see I see it in the red in the little bubble there.
00:40:10.960 --> 00:40:11.519
There we go.
00:40:11.679 --> 00:40:12.480
Which verse is it?
00:40:12.800 --> 00:40:16.239
It's like verse 11, maybe it's down there somewhere.
00:40:16.800 --> 00:40:18.159
Uh, maybe not.
00:40:19.920 --> 00:40:22.719
I don't know the exact verse, but I know it's all right.
00:40:22.800 --> 00:40:23.199
Here we go.
00:40:23.440 --> 00:40:24.159
Verse 15.
00:40:24.239 --> 00:40:24.800
That's what it is.
00:40:24.960 --> 00:40:26.000
Yep, yep.
00:40:26.320 --> 00:40:34.159
He said, Beware of false prophets who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves.
00:40:34.239 --> 00:40:40.559
Now, I had always heard, you know, when we think about this verse, we always hear the phrase a wolf in sheep's clothing.
00:40:40.800 --> 00:40:41.119
Right?
00:40:41.199 --> 00:40:44.159
That's that's like the common thing we hear, right?
00:40:44.639 --> 00:40:49.360
But he didn't the order that Jesus said this to me is very important.
00:40:50.400 --> 00:40:53.519
They come to you in sheep's clothing.
00:40:53.760 --> 00:40:55.280
That's the first thing.
00:40:55.599 --> 00:41:04.880
So they present themselves in a way that looks benevolent, that looks uh harmless, that looks benign.
00:41:05.920 --> 00:41:11.440
I don't think we've taken that little piece by itself and really thought about it enough.
00:41:11.920 --> 00:41:22.320
You know, because we we we imagine a wolf in sheep's clothing being like, you know, like they got the, you know, they're salivating and ready to attack and all this stuff, like like uh what's that old thing?
00:41:22.480 --> 00:41:27.039
Little Red Riding Hood, you know, you got the wolf with the little bonnet on, you know, that kind of thing.
00:41:27.360 --> 00:41:34.639
But this is it's the presentation matters, is what he was saying.
00:41:34.800 --> 00:41:40.559
They come to you, and the first impression you get is that this person's harmless.
00:41:40.719 --> 00:41:46.880
This this is a nice person, it's somebody who, oh gosh, I love the way they preach, dude.
00:41:47.280 --> 00:41:52.079
He said, but inwardly, there's where it gets interesting to me, dude.
00:41:52.320 --> 00:41:55.039
Inwardly, they are ravening wolves.
00:41:55.119 --> 00:41:56.639
And this is the part that got me, David.
00:41:56.719 --> 00:41:58.159
And I I I don't know, man.
00:41:58.239 --> 00:42:08.000
I just I had to look up that word ravening because I had always just assumed eat, I had always assumed it just meant hungry, you know.
00:42:08.800 --> 00:42:12.159
Because you know, you think ravenous like I'm hungry, dude.
00:42:12.719 --> 00:42:39.280
The word ravening means excessively greedy, yeah, excessively greedy, and I was like, bro, if that doesn't describe a bunch of these folks out here, and I'm not trying to rag on all the preachers, but there's some, there's some out here right now with names and lights, and they can pack stadiums, and dude, excessively greedy, excessively greedy.
00:42:39.440 --> 00:42:56.320
So, what you were saying, David, I don't want to get too far off, but what you were saying about you know, keeping your own brain, using your own brain and being sober during this time because there's a lot of information and a lot of information coming out of so-called Christian channels, you know what I mean?
00:42:56.559 --> 00:43:10.079
Christian uh broadcasting of in different kinds and podcasting for that matter, and not all of it lines up with the Bible, not all of it does, and they may use scripture.
00:43:10.320 --> 00:43:11.039
Well, you know what?
00:43:11.119 --> 00:43:31.760
Satan did too when he was in the desert with Jesus, he used scripture, but you gotta be sober, you gotta understand the the ability to discern when you're being deceived, and like David said, becoming difficult to deceive is important for these times we're in, man, because there are wolves out there that are ready to tear people limb from limb.
00:43:32.239 --> 00:43:36.559
Look, and can I just can I just throw one other thing at this since we're there?
00:43:36.800 --> 00:43:37.599
Please.
00:43:37.920 --> 00:43:45.840
Um, first of all, I just want to take us back a couple series ago to to the top of the year.
00:43:46.079 --> 00:43:48.320
I think it was the top of the year.
00:43:50.320 --> 00:43:53.679
Whenever we talk, gosh, has time passed that fast?
00:43:55.119 --> 00:43:56.559
It has been that fast, dude.
00:43:56.719 --> 00:43:57.280
That's great.
00:43:58.559 --> 00:43:59.760
We started talking about the channel.
00:44:00.239 --> 00:44:02.880
Church and who is the church and all of that.
00:44:03.199 --> 00:44:19.840
And uh just remember before you judge that church, and you well, before you judge Christianity, just remember Jesus tells you the word tells you that there are deceivers amongst the church.
00:44:20.079 --> 00:44:25.599
Yes, two things to note you should already know they're deceivers in the world.
00:44:26.000 --> 00:44:27.360
Right, right, right.
00:44:28.239 --> 00:44:31.840
The Bible tells you Satan comes not but for the kill, steal, and destroy.
00:44:32.079 --> 00:44:35.039
So you already know that's out in the world.
00:44:35.280 --> 00:44:46.960
He's once again tipping you on game and bringing back your letting you know some of those deceivers are also in the church.
00:44:47.599 --> 00:45:01.199
Now, how can you judge God and say I'm walking away from the faith because all of these deceptive people in your church when he's warned you that there are deceivers in the building?
00:45:04.880 --> 00:45:10.159
You're mad at him because what you're really mad at is you're mad at that you got God.
00:45:10.639 --> 00:45:19.039
Yeah, it's not because God didn't tell you they were there, so that you could be on your guard and watch out.
00:45:19.119 --> 00:45:22.000
Because what does the rest of that verse and seven say?
00:45:22.239 --> 00:45:25.519
It says you will know them by their fruit, right?
00:45:26.719 --> 00:45:32.239
And you don't find out fruit after two times meeting this person, right?
00:45:32.639 --> 00:45:38.239
Fruit is something that gets discovered over time, it's the same thing we tell dating people.
00:45:38.800 --> 00:45:42.800
No, you don't know that person after six weeks.
00:45:43.039 --> 00:45:43.440
That's right.
00:45:43.679 --> 00:45:51.280
You're getting to know each other, you like each other, you find out there's very interesting things going on, but let a little more time pass.
00:45:51.840 --> 00:46:07.519
Let's see what that character looks like because after he's waited for you a couple of weeks and been okay with you running late, by the tenth time, is he still gentle and caring and not caring about what happened?
00:46:07.920 --> 00:46:13.199
Or does he begin to start bossing you around and telling you what you will and won't do?
00:46:13.599 --> 00:46:22.559
Is she as kind and nurturing after date 13 as she was on date four and five?
00:46:22.800 --> 00:46:26.880
See, time reveals some things, and you have to give it room.
00:46:27.119 --> 00:46:29.119
And sometimes you don't need time.
00:46:29.280 --> 00:46:36.400
Sometimes, if you just look at what's in front of you, you'll be like, hmm, something doesn't add up here.
00:46:36.719 --> 00:46:38.719
So I'm gonna keep my distance on that.
00:46:38.960 --> 00:46:51.679
But just remember, people, God told you these people are in the church, they're not the body, but they're in the church, and that you have to set a guard.
00:46:51.920 --> 00:46:53.840
Remember, the word says Proverbs 4.
00:46:54.400 --> 00:46:57.599
Um guard your heart.
00:46:57.840 --> 00:46:59.920
Well, that's that's Proverbs 3.
00:47:00.079 --> 00:47:00.800
Guard your heart.
00:47:00.960 --> 00:47:02.000
Well, no, that's Proverbs 4.
00:47:02.960 --> 00:47:03.440
Yeah, it's four.
00:47:04.079 --> 00:47:08.159
Guard your heart with all diligence for out of it flow the issues of life.
00:47:08.239 --> 00:47:13.840
You gotta guard that heart, and you gotta protect it from letting all kinds of people and stuff get in.
00:47:13.920 --> 00:47:16.079
That's why you got to protect what word you hear.
00:47:16.239 --> 00:47:23.119
I can be scrolling YouTube one day and I can see a hundred Christian messages and go past all of them.
00:47:24.480 --> 00:47:26.639
Does that make me not a Christian?
00:47:26.800 --> 00:47:28.639
No, it means I'm guard my heart.
00:47:28.719 --> 00:47:31.440
I don't know who you are, I don't know what you're about to say.
00:47:31.679 --> 00:47:38.000
So I don't think I'm gonna risk letting you speak something into me that may create chaos in me.
00:47:38.239 --> 00:47:38.719
Right.
00:47:39.199 --> 00:47:39.679
Amen.
00:47:40.239 --> 00:47:41.199
Amen, dude.
00:47:41.599 --> 00:47:43.840
Can we just have to be be wise?
00:47:44.400 --> 00:47:45.039
100%.
00:47:45.840 --> 00:47:48.400
Can we talk about you said Proverbs 4?
00:47:48.960 --> 00:47:52.800
Uh I think it's Proverbs, Proverbs 5, maybe 6.
00:47:52.880 --> 00:48:00.800
I don't remember, but it's where it says there are six things that God hates, seven things that God sees as an abomination.
00:48:01.039 --> 00:48:10.400
And I believe the last one is some a man who causes discourse amongst brethren.
00:48:10.719 --> 00:48:12.719
Yeah, a man who says discord among his brethren.
00:48:12.960 --> 00:48:13.679
Yeah, discord.
00:48:13.920 --> 00:48:14.639
Yeah, yeah.
00:48:14.960 --> 00:48:38.400
I it it's that that to me, that's like a connection to exactly what's going on here where people within a church, you have one sheep that's sent to that's not I'm not saying they're sent, but they're there to deceive, and this is exactly what it was done for to deceive and to cause separation and discord amongst the church.
00:48:38.480 --> 00:48:45.360
And it's kind of I just think it's interesting that that's one of the things that God finds as an absolute abomination.
00:48:45.599 --> 00:48:48.559
Come on, uh Tutton just saying it's an abomination.
00:48:48.719 --> 00:48:52.000
He he says he hates hates it, yes.
00:48:52.639 --> 00:48:57.760
And what's fascinating about that list is that it starts off with a lying tongue, yeah.
00:48:58.000 --> 00:48:58.400
That's right.
00:48:58.639 --> 00:48:59.760
That's the first one.
00:49:00.639 --> 00:49:03.679
Somebody says deceiving witness, like, come on, man.
00:49:04.800 --> 00:49:07.280
It's true, yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:49:07.519 --> 00:49:09.679
And it's something, and I'm fascinated.
00:49:09.760 --> 00:49:10.480
Oh, go ahead, John.
00:49:10.559 --> 00:49:11.119
I'm sorry.
00:49:11.360 --> 00:49:26.480
No, I was just gonna say I I was gonna go a little bit on a tangent, and I and I think that just this hatred for deception comes from I think from the nature of God being that you know when he speaks, he speaks truth.
00:49:26.719 --> 00:49:30.719
He said, Yeah, let there be light, and this is just a true fact now.
00:49:30.800 --> 00:49:31.519
There is light.
00:49:31.840 --> 00:49:35.840
He said, Let there be X, Y, and Z, and then there was X, Y, and Z.
00:49:36.159 --> 00:49:44.000
Um, and and so I think like deception is like at the the core of the complete opposite of God.
00:49:44.719 --> 00:49:49.039
Um and I think and I just to me that just makes complete and total sense.
00:49:49.119 --> 00:49:53.840
Like, no wonder I would hate that too, if that's like the complete antithesis of God's character.
00:49:54.079 --> 00:49:54.400
That's right.
00:49:55.920 --> 00:50:02.000
Yes, man, and then just to bring it back to James, just stop sinning.
00:50:03.039 --> 00:50:09.199
And just to just to just to think that this is the same God that wants to tempt you.
00:50:09.840 --> 00:50:10.800
Come on, man.
00:50:11.039 --> 00:50:18.800
He gets he gets mad at liars, and then you're over here telling saying that he's the one that put this temptation in your life, in your path.
00:50:19.599 --> 00:50:25.440
I I'll say this one thing, and I'm and I'll leave it alone, and I'm sorry.
00:50:25.519 --> 00:50:50.719
I don't I just I think that there needs to be a lot of reflection because there if you if you study some of these religions that we're seeing across the world, uh James 13 or James 113 described a lot of gods or god or gods amongst these other religions that other people worship.
00:50:51.039 --> 00:51:05.360
Somebody who a god who tempts people, which I I'm not gonna I won't say who, I won't say why, and I won't say which religion, but I'll just say that they are there and they have different names.
00:51:05.599 --> 00:51:10.000
Um I'm just being repetitive now, just use your brain, dude.
00:51:10.079 --> 00:51:12.800
Like just like you said, start thinking.
00:51:13.760 --> 00:51:15.199
I didn't mean to cut cut you off.
00:51:15.760 --> 00:51:16.719
No, you're good, man.
00:51:16.800 --> 00:51:17.360
You're good.
00:51:17.519 --> 00:51:20.960
Yeah, use use that noodle between the ears, man.
00:51:21.599 --> 00:51:27.519
Um because you know, he he definitely didn't want you to check your brain at the door when you got saved, right?
00:51:27.760 --> 00:51:28.239
Right.
00:51:28.480 --> 00:51:34.159
Um, he even said told us in Romans 12, he said, you know, be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
00:51:34.480 --> 00:51:34.800
Correct.
00:51:35.199 --> 00:51:45.199
He made he made it a point to talk about the mind itself, and he said, because this is your reasonable service, like it's in other words, it's a rational thing to do.
00:51:45.519 --> 00:51:52.000
Present your body as a living sacrifice, you know, holy and acceptable to him, because that's your the rational thing to do.
00:51:52.079 --> 00:51:53.760
So God's into rationale.
00:51:53.920 --> 00:51:59.280
You know, a lot of people think that for it to be faith, it can't make any sense at all.
00:51:59.840 --> 00:52:00.960
That's not always true.
00:52:01.119 --> 00:52:06.719
There are times when God does lead you to do things that you may not fully understand the big picture about, right?
00:52:06.880 --> 00:52:16.800
I mean, we know that when Abraham launched out, when God told him to leave his family and leave his house, his father's house, it said in Hebrews 11 that Abraham didn't even know where he was going.
00:52:17.039 --> 00:52:23.440
You know, so there's times when you do things that God may instruct you to do that maybe you don't see the full picture of it.
00:52:23.920 --> 00:52:34.079
But it isn't always uh faith and and and rationale are not always up on the opposite end of this of the of the spectrum, man.
00:52:34.320 --> 00:52:39.360
Sometimes it's actually a very logical thing to do what God's will is for your life.
00:52:39.519 --> 00:52:51.519
And if you think about it, that makes perfect sense because everything he's told us to do, even science ends up proving that it was the right thing to do.
00:52:51.840 --> 00:52:53.840
Yeah, look at Noah's Ark right now.
00:52:54.079 --> 00:52:55.360
I mean, come on, man.
00:52:55.519 --> 00:53:00.880
You know, it it's even when he said, um, you know, flee fornication.
00:53:00.960 --> 00:53:04.559
That was one of the things, I think it's first first Corinthians six, maybe.
00:53:04.800 --> 00:53:07.840
He said, flee fornication, get away from fornication.
00:53:08.079 --> 00:53:14.559
He said, because if you sin in that manner all the time, you're sinning against your own body, right?
00:53:15.119 --> 00:53:36.000
And so we now we find out that people who are in this lifestyle of promiscuous sex and just just wild uh in that regard, they end up dealing with sexually transmitted diseases, they end up dealing with horrendously broken relationships, they end up sometimes in a situation where they get violated, whatever the case is.
00:53:36.079 --> 00:53:40.960
And I don't I'm not gonna talk about the most popular case for that right now, but I think y'all get the point.
00:53:41.199 --> 00:53:50.159
Um now it's it's a rational thing, actually, to not be sleeping around with everybody you see who has a pulse, right?
00:53:50.480 --> 00:53:59.199
So um anyway, I'm I'm I'm we're we're drifting way off on this stuff, but I'll say this dude.
00:53:59.280 --> 00:54:03.760
We have drifted, we have drifted so far off, but but we're still on though.
00:54:03.920 --> 00:54:04.719
Don't get it twisted.
00:54:05.519 --> 00:54:06.400
We're still serving.
00:54:06.960 --> 00:54:09.280
But we're still not moving through this scripture very fast.
00:54:09.519 --> 00:54:15.679
Yeah, it may be a very thin thread that we we're hanging on by, but we're we're there.
00:54:15.920 --> 00:54:27.519
So um, but I know we gotta go ahead and wrap up because we're already pretty pretty far past time, but um, we'll just put a pin right here in James 1.13 and we're gonna talk more about it.
00:54:27.599 --> 00:54:29.360
I think it's one 14 actually, yeah.
00:54:29.519 --> 00:54:32.239
We'll we'll say we'll we'll put our pen in James 1.14.
00:54:32.400 --> 00:54:35.920
Each person's tempting when he's lured and enticed by his own desire.
00:54:36.239 --> 00:54:41.360
Uh I encourage everybody who's listened to this podcast, please take the time.
00:54:41.599 --> 00:54:46.960
Read through this passage from James 1.12 through James through through verse 15.
00:54:47.119 --> 00:54:54.559
Read that passage over and over again, get you some different translations and read read those as well uh of that same passage.
00:54:54.880 --> 00:54:57.920
Get your concordance out, get your Bible study tools.
00:54:58.079 --> 00:55:01.920

00:55:19.360 --> 00:55:26.559
But anyway, all that as it is, uh, we want to say thank you for for joining us tonight.
00:55:26.639 --> 00:55:28.079
And we're gonna continue this series.
00:55:28.159 --> 00:55:36.000
We're gonna jump right back into James next week and we're gonna talk more about the rest of that passage that we've been looking at from James 1, 12 through 15.
00:55:36.320 --> 00:55:37.840
So um stay tuned for that.
00:55:37.920 --> 00:55:40.559
