ABOUT THIS EPISODE
Where does our inner strength come from—and what happens when life keeps giving us reasons to quit?
In this episode of Beyond the Mind, I’m joined by Jay Setchell, a Marine, entrepreneur, leader, and lifelong believer in the power of perseverance. Now in his mid-70s and living with significant physical challenges, Jay continues to pursue new ventures and live by a mindset that has carried him through decades of setbacks, failures, surgeries, and major life changes: “If it is to be, it is up to me.”
We talk about the experiences that shape our strength—from childhood, family, faith, and discipline to failure, pain, and adversity. Jay shares why he believes our future is ultimately our responsibility, how our choices shape the lives we create, and why courage, grit, and perseverance matter when the path ahead becomes difficult.
We also explore purpose, leadership, the value of time, faith, hope, and the importance of helping others along the way. Jay reminds us that success doesn’t necessarily mean having an easy life—it can mean continuing to move forward, even when circumstances change.
This is a conversation about refusing to give up, finding meaning in the challenges we face, and remembering that no matter where we are in life, we are still a work in progress.
