ABOUT THIS EPISODE
In a quiet pub in North Yorkshire, an ordinary wooden chair became the center of one of England’s most chilling legends. In 1702, Thomas Busby was executed for murder, and before his death he allegedly cursed the chair he had been sitting in—swearing that anyone who dared sit in it would die. Over the centuries, dozens of sudden deaths have been linked to that simple act, turning an unremarkable piece of furniture into something feared across generations.
In this episode of Beyond the Campfire, we trace the bloody origins of the Busby Stoop Chair, following its path from roadside inn to military barracks, construction sites, and eventually a museum—leaving tragedy in its wake. From soldiers who sat down for a laugh and never returned home, to workers who collapsed within days, the pattern surrounding the chair becomes impossible to ignore.
Is the Busby Chair a genuine cursed object… or a legend fueled by coincidence and repetition? Tonight, we examine the deaths, the folklore, and the reason the chair now hangs from the ceiling—never meant to touch the ground again. Because some warnings, once ignored, only need to be learned the hard way.
