ABOUT THIS EPISODE
Jim and Ronald discussed the importance of simulating game-like pressure during practice to help players develop mental toughness. They emphasized the value of live infield drills, where players face real-game scenarios with base runners, and live at-bats against live pitching to prepare hitters for the challenges of facing different pitches and in-game situations. They also highlighted the significance of teaching players to hit ground balls, as this skill is crucial for advancing runners and creating scoring opportunities. Jim shared his approach of forcing players into pressure situations to build confidence and resilience, while Ronald recalled a rigorous drill from his playing days that emphasized the importance of making routine plays consistently. Both agreed that exposing players to pressure early on, especially in positions like catcher and pitcher, helps them develop the mental fortitude needed to succeed at higher levels.
