speaker-1: And talking to Peter just now, he said to me, I don't know how she does it, How would you stay calm walking out for your last fight in front of 80,000 people at a venue that you've always wanted to perform at? At a venue in front of people who have come to see you for the last time. I can't even imagine. Between us, I sneaked into Croke Park last night about eight o'clock. Yeah, I managed to jib in. I knew a security guy, and I got a high visor, and I wandered around and it was dark and it had rained. There were 200 workers still doing stuff, and I wandered around there, and I'm not and I'm not. Not overregging it, you pull you felt it pulling your heart. You could just sense that place, the history in that place, the richness in that place. Good years, bad years, great years, terrible years. But women's boxing won't. Women's boxing needs a lot of care and a lot of love and a lot of help. to keep it over, to build people, to be to make Tier Ayton into a massive star, to work on that, you know.
ABOUT THIS EPISODE
Steve Bunce first had Peter Taylor on his radio show back in 2008. Eighteen years later, on the eve of Katie Taylor’s historic Croke Park fight, Bunce slipped into an empty stadium in a high-vis vest at 8 PM to feel the weight of history.
In this episode of Between The Rounds live from Trinity College, Bunce dives deep into the Taylor legacy—from her early days fighting under a boy's alias to the 2007 Chicago exhibition that put women's boxing in the Olympics.
We also cover:
