I'm a yoga teacher, a business intelligence manager with a master's degree in IT, and Nobel Queen International 2023 with health and wellness advocacy. I'm so excited to start this journey with you, to uplift you with positivity, the power of mindfulness and yoga and the freedom of conscious living. So let's start together and take a moment for yourself. Hello everyone, how have you been? It's nice to be here talking to you again, and I wish I could actually listen and hear your response of how have you been. So it's the fourth week at Rishikesh for the yoga teacher training. You know it if you have listened to the previous episodes. For those who haven't, let me give you a recap India, start of the month, which is 26 days ago, to finish my advanced yoga teacher training, alongside with pre and post natal yoga. It's been an intense program, from very early in the morning till night. We do have breaks in between, but it mostly goes to maintenance Either eating or, I don't know, taking care of yourself, your stuff. There's not much time, but it's okay. That's literally what we signed up for and that's why the course, 300 plus hours is just in one month. So I just want to tell you about the most recent update of how this experience has been for me.
Speaker 1:

Huh, well, the first two weeks were pretty nice. I mean, I had my challenges coming here, definitely, but it was nice. Eventually, by third week, it started to get to feel a little more difficult. Some of our 100-hour students already left after the 10th day and some of the 200-hour students left yesterday or the day before that. Some of them are leaving today. And here we are, a few 300-hour students. We are just like a really few, having to stay here until the end of the month and then we'll all be leaving by the first day of next month or sometime around that". Well, you know, it's A little sad to see everyone leaving, because we kind of got used to each other from morning till night, eat together, attend classes together. It's a little hard to see them leave, but at the same time you feel happy for them because they're going home with this newfound knowledge to spread and share with the people they know or they will know. And it also gets me excited because when I think about it that I'm also gonna see my loved ones, it's really a nice feeling.
Speaker 1:
3:49
So, yeah, by third week I started to feel this intense amount of homesickness. I believe the intense schedule has played a part and also we do go out, sometimes once in a while. We don't have much time to actually explore the city unless we stay here longer, so it's kind of limited to the area around our school and also a little by choice. I prefer that, just want to make sure that this one month will go smoothly and then I can go back home. And this homesickness got a little bit more intense for the past few days.
Speaker 1:
4:43
I had a hard time actually understanding what's happening. For some reason it wasn't so clear that this is what I'm feeling is homesickness, because I wasn't just exactly saying that, oh, I just want to be at home, I just want to be at home. No, I was a little bit more restless, I was maybe a little more impatient, I felt emotional, like in general, and when I sat and took some time to think, I realized that I think I just really miss home. You know, when we're always busy and moving, we don't really realize what's going on inside us, inside of sometimes and I find myself someone who is in tune with her emotions, but I still find myself at this kind of state of mind. That's why it's important to sometimes just sit back and relax and allow your mind to see things for what they are, without judgment. It's different from overthinking. Overthinking is when we obsess over a thought and we judge it. We put it in a box, most probably in something negative that makes us anxious. But to be able to sit back and not judge and actually see what's happening, what I'm feeling and what it means, without saying that it's a good feeling or it's a bad feeling Basically the practice of meditation in some way, that you allow your thoughts to come to you and you don't categorize them.
Speaker 1:
6:19
This specific one has been one of the most beautiful meditations that we have done here, or in one of the meditations I had this awareness of my thoughts and I just stopped categorizing it. It's not easy, I think, for me, if not first, it's one of the very few times that I've been able to do that, because we humans are so used to putting things in boxes that we have to actively decide not to do that. It's good, I'm not saying that's bad. A lot of times. It's good for our protection, it's good for our advancement, but I don't think it should be done all the times.
Speaker 1:
7:01
So, yeah, it's important to sometimes sit back and see things for what they are, giving yourself some time to just do nothing and be all right with doing nothing and allowing your mind to wander and just see what comes to your mind and if they want to tell you something or not, or if you just have to dismiss them. The opposite of this would be someone who has a lot of time and they don't have much things to focus on. So they might start getting negative or they might start unhealthy habits getting negative by overthinking about situation or by getting to investor or interested in other people's lives. I mean people who have things to do usually don't have time in being too interested in what someone else is doing and how they should do this and how they should do that. So it's good to also find that support for the mind to not get into that other side of the trap. So, yeah, I was talking about this homesickness.
Speaker 1:
8:14
So when I understood it, it was a little easier to manage it because I knew what it is and I found myself feeling better during classes because I am focused on something and I'm learning something new. I'm excited about it and this excitement makes me feel great, makes me feel happy and alive. And this excitement makes me feel great, makes me feel happy and alive. But then after that, when we get out of the classes, it's a little harder for me, I guess, because I don't have that much stuff to think about or that much stuff for the support of my mind, which makes me feel maybe bored or whatever feeling which is not so positive. So sometimes we go out with the friends, we do shopping. It's really fun Because everyone here is a visitor, even if they're from India, some of them.
Speaker 1:
9:11
They don't live in Rishikesh, so there are things that they would buy from here for themselves, for the people they love. And I have found a couple of really good friends who love shopping as much as I do, and I did especially before, not so much now, but you know, when you travel it's nice to buy some things from that place if it's handmade there. But you don't want to get into that too much, right? You don't want to keep on spending money for things that you don't necessarily need and at some point it kind of becomes like boring, like how many things can you buy when, deep down, you know that, okay, I don't think I need that much? So I started going to the cafes exploring new foods and it's been great new juices, new shakes but then, other than that, I realized that maybe I just need some time alone. So I'm spending some time alone. I read some stuff. I also decided to record this podcast, and that's been a part of this journey.
Speaker 1:
10:12
So where I am right now is finding that support for my mind, which reminds me of a lesson that we learned from one of our good teachers here, who is also a co-founder, serge Sajjan, that he said that your mind always needs support. If you want to stay in the present moment, you always have to give something to your mind as support to focus on. That could be your breath, that could be an object you're looking at or the voice of a person you're listening to. Give your mind support so it doesn't start traveling to past or the future. Imagination, love, you know places there's nothing wrong with that also. But if it happens too often or when it shouldn't, then that's the problem.
Speaker 1:
11:00
For example, for me, after these classes, I've been telling you that I get to feel more homesick because my mind is free to think about whatever it wants to think about and I haven't been giving my mind that right support for it. I start missing my husband, my dog. I miss my parents. I'm gonna see them, but, dog, I miss my parents. I'm going to see them, but it's okay to miss them. But the thing is it's like constant and constant and constant, from day to lunch to night, especially after the third day. Before that it was all right, manageable. I really do miss home. So I realized that, yeah, it's the support that's lacking. I'm going to get myself busy, especially with things that make me feel better. So this is the reason why I wanted to talk about this.
Speaker 1:
11:54
I invite you to think about the times that you start to think about things that don't make you feel good or they don't have good impacts on your life. They don't make you feel energized, they don't make you feel that you are inspired, you're motivated, or they don't make you feel alive. When I say alive, you don't have to necessarily be excited. You can be calm and feel alive, but when there's dullness, think about it. What kind of support you are providing for your mind?
Speaker 1:
12:28
I think when we lack to provide that support, people start turning towards addiction. That's the kind of support that they provide for their mind, which would be really harmful, not just for the body, for their lives, for people around them. So it's really important to focus on what we are feeding our mind and how we are able to be present. As I said during the classes, I I am interested and it doesn't feel difficult for me to be here and be away from home, because the lesson itself or what I'm hearing is the support for my mind. But when I'm out of that class, then it's on me what to choose as support for my mind. That's when it gets difficult. So for you, let's say you have good presence when you're doing something for example, you're at work or at class or I don't know, you're conversing with people but when you don't have that forceful kind of support, what do you choose to focus on or to be busy with? I think thinking about this question and reflecting about it would be really, really helpful, and maybe you just want to spend a little bit of time to reflect on this and see if this is something that you would benefit from. I'm pretty sure you would.
