ABOUT THIS EPISODE
Grassroots racing done right. Michael Howlett joins Shane Lawrie and Brent Peters to talk father-son race days, state title glory, and wrangling HQs at Nationals with 50-car grids. From Sydney Motorsport Park to Morgan Park, Baskerville and beyond, he shares the tracks that shaped him, the e-scooter mishap that nearly derailed a round, and why the social side of HQ racing is just as important as the laps.
We dive into the endurance adventures, Collie pranks, the awkward brilliance of Dodge Vipers, and the challenge of keeping cars and parts alive. Michael opens up about racing alongside his dad, how not overthinking makes him faster, and what makes HQs the heart of Aussie club racing.
If you love barbecues, bent panels, and mates who’ll help fix your car after they’ve just punted you off—this is your episode.
