Back Row Critics: Welcome back to episode three of Back Row Critics. I'm Adam. I'm Will. And today we're getting back into kind of our normal swing of things. We had our Oscar predictions episode. So if you haven't heard that one, definitely check it out. lot of kind of similar takes, but a lot of different takes. ⁓ see if Sinners walks away with 300 Academy Awards this year. thinks it probably will. At least 400. minimum 400. You heard it here first. But we're get back to kind of our usual format. Thanks for joining us again for episode three. Let's jump right it. Will, what did you watch last week? Scream 7. Scream 7. Do you wanna? get into Scream 7 or should we save that for an episode? You want to give your just preliminary thoughts on? We could talk. Yeah, yeah, we could talk about it. We can we can. Maybe next episode, deep dive the entire franchise down. I'm down. ⁓ We can talk a little Scream 7. Actually, the only movie I watched last week ⁓ of a light week. Yeah, it was a chill week for you. But I got to the theaters. I did watch before we get into Scream 7 talk. I did also watch the twenty one pilots. concert movie they released for their Clancy tour. That counts as watching something. Fantastic. Much better than what we're about to talk about. So spoiler alert. Scream 7. Where do we start? We want to start with what we liked? Sure. Yeah, yeah, we can do that. Yeah. So what did you like about Scream 7? You feel a lot of nostalgia, which is cool. I would hope so. I would hope you feel it. Yeah. That's what the movie's made of. I did love seeing Matthew Lillard again. I think he's just one of those guys that whenever he's on screen, you're having a good time. So good. You know, I loved having Sydney back. think having her family was cool, especially having her oldest daughter named Tatum, just a little call back there, too. Fun, I think there were some really good kills. I think that that is one thing that this movie might be stronger than other screen movies. ⁓ is that the kills kinda get unique at moments. Yeah, I don't wanna give away who, for those of you who haven't seen it, but for me, the kill in the theater one my overhead. yeah. One of my favorite kills ever. Yeah, yeah. And then in the bar. ⁓ Yeah. Yeah. know exactly what you're talking about. Yeah, so I think two of... two of maybe arguably my top five favorite kills in the entire franchise are in this movie. Yeah, so the kills are definitely good and I think that it had a really good opening too, know how every screen That's what I was gonna talk about, the opening, back to Stu's house and what they did with it and everything, ⁓ was ⁓ with like the trivia, ⁓ was intense, you knew exactly what was gonna happen, know, right, not even a spoiler, those two are gonna get butchered, right, you know what's coming. You know, no, neither, know. ⁓ the the walk away. I mean, it's epic. The opening is one of the better openings of the franchise. Two of my favorite kills ever. actually thought the, ⁓ and this is gonna get into my gripes, my 10,000 gripes, but ⁓ wanted more from the actress playing Tatum. I forget her name right now, cause I actually thought she was really good casting. ⁓ liked her. I believed her as a strong character. Like I totally bought into it. A of callbacks, ⁓ too callbacks, too much. too much of it. But then, yeah, seeing Lillard on screen, I'll take that every day of the week. I'm never gonna argue. And just, dude, what he can do with his face. And you can tell that he had, it was so brief, but you can tell he had so much fun. With that. Yeah, he had I love that we get the, bukah! Yeah, bukah! Yeah. It was just, he had a blast with that, and I could feel, like I could feel my face hurting from smiling, just watching him on screen. Yeah, he's probably one of the key positives in the kills in the opening. I would say those are the three big ones. And I know for everybody listening, it's like, wow, these guys really like Scream 7. No. Let's get into what didn't work. Killer sucked. No motive. We talked about it right before the episode. I'm going to... Are we doing spoilers? don't know. No, no, no, maybe let's save spoilers. Yeah, when we do a breakdown of the whole thing, we can give a spoiler alert kind of that point will be a week. So I'm going to keep it vague and say, and this is what I'm at least going to stand on. The worst killers of the entire franchise. I agree. Yeah. The worst killers, the worst motivations. No motive. It was ⁓ just when the reveal happened. First off, one the killers you can see coming a mile away. was so egregiously obvious. were like, saw this actor on screen and I went, well, wait, what? This is obvious. I was like, this is obviously one of the killers. Like, what are we doing here? I think both of them were kind of, you could figure it out. Yeah, was just, the motivation was terrible. The reveal was awful. And just them as killers, just of terrible. I don't know how else to say it, right? was just, it was not good at all. and the kind of quote unquote nostalgia factor, it was too much. It was just callback after callback after callback. I just did not, I don't know, I didn't feel good about it, but there is one thing that we will all always feel good about. And what's that Will? What's your favorite scary movie? There's, man, that hits. You want to describe where that came from? That was not Will's voice as a heads up. That'd be awesome. No, you can always rely on the popcorn buckets and merchandise you're going to get with a good stuff. I love the bucket. No, that's actually the topper to the cup. It was funny because we were in line and whenever we're going to a movie and we're to get concessions, a large drink is like 750, I think. Yeah. And the collector's cup with a free refill is 850. So I'm always like, babe, like if we're going to get if we're going to get a drink like for a dollar more, we get to keep the cup and. We get a free refill. You get two sodas, you know? And it's actually cool. Yeah. And so they ring it in and it says 14.95. And I was like, they raised the prices? What the hell is going on? And they brought that out. And I was like, oh, that's kind of cool. I'll pay seven dollars for that. That's you're paying the extra money for. little topper of ghost face that you... And it looks cool. It doesn't look like janky. Like it looks actually really No. And the popcorn bucket, think, is one of the better popcorn buckets. Yeah. it's very Cinemarch never done. Yeah, with the blood coming down and everything. Yeah. popcorn bucket and the topper is way better than the movie. Yeah, for sure. So the best part of this movie was watching the scary movie trailer. We talk about that, too. Scary movie. That trailer was so good. So good. I am back. I am ready for that. I'm locked in. And they're ⁓ like list of movies they're parodying. ⁓ my gosh. ⁓ I'm so happy that like the Wayans brothers are back because that's how it should be. Yeah. And and everybody better with them. everybody. Will has dogs, just in case nobody knew it. But. Sounds like a herd of buffaloes was let out through. But the fact that like everybody's coming back from the first one. Yeah. Is the coolest. Excited to see Anna Faris. Yeah. I think they shared it. Like it's really cool that like everybody's coming back from the first one. Yeah. I think it's so, so fun. But this trailer, like it's so funny because we were just talking about on episode one. Toy Story 5 and how like the franchise fatigue and now we're scary movie 6 and we're like, yeah Them coming back is how it should be I still am on the I'll die on the hill. The scary movie 2 is the best one Okay with Chris Elliot as what is it Hansel with the hand and everything? Take my strong and Tim Curry, you know, it's it's so so good. I love that movie so much. But yeah, I'm super stoked for that ⁓ But yeah, Scream 7, just, Williamson coming back to write and direct, like I know that Kevin Williamson was a great writer, know, gave us the first one and the ⁓ one and the fourth one, is that what it was? ⁓ two, and four. And you know, we're gonna, I think should break down the franchise, yeah. So I don't wanna give away too much for our thoughts on all the other films, but clearly, you know, is a good, good writer, has written really interesting things. I know what you did last summer teaching Mrs. Tingle. really fun kind of things. Dawson's Creek. Dawson's Creek, which shout out James Anderbeek. First episode, you didn't hear passing, we're in mourning for that. Dawson's Creek is my guilty pleasure show of all time. But ⁓ will say if this, what? I did watch the first season after our first episode. Did you? I loved it. ⁓ Kind of becoming guilty pleasure of mine. Keep going because you didn't tell me that this is I'm just I was kind of saving it for this because I know it's not a movie, but I did. Why? guess that's something that's why I don't watch as many movies. I watched 13 episodes of Datsun's as a heads up, though. Season three is the best season. OK, so you keep it going, man. Keep it going. Locked in. But yeah, the Scream seven, if this is what we're going to get, then Kevin Williamson should not write in direct anymore. And OK, so Neve Campbell. Good on you for coming back and getting your bag, getting your mind. Well, she paid seven million, think, for this movie, which is awesome. Good for you. I love it. She looked so uninterested in this movie. Yeah. Really. Like the use of Gail's character just was what they did. sort of died two movies ago. Yeah. What they did with the twins. the plot armor is getting out of control. Oh, Joel McHale. It's getting. out of control. with, with Chad Mason. Yeah, Chad and Joel McCann. The plot armor is getting so out of control. Like we are, I'm not going to say who, but we are watching people being literally gutted on screen and they're like, ⁓ it's cool. It's just a flesh wound. They're just going to go to the hospital. They'll be okay. And you're like, ⁓ are watching people getting stabbed repeatedly over and over and over. and they're getting wheeled out in the ambulance and giving a thumbs up at the end. Like, what are we doing? Like, it was a fun thing that they did with Arquette in the first one. And it's it's gotten so out of control. You know, he gets stabbed once and it's like, oh wow, he lived, that's cool. And you're watching people get stabbed three and four times and they're walking think more. Five, six, seven times. They're oh cool. I guess they missed every vital organ with those seven stabs. a stab for each stab. Yeah, ⁓ I don't know this movie for me besides those few things of like the two ⁓ amazing kills Seeing Lillard back on screen, but like honestly besides that this movie wasn't fun for me Yeah, I just really didn't enjoy it Like have all the other ones like even screams that I don't think were necessarily great. I had fun with ya, right? I just really didn't have much fun with this movie And it was rough to get through. Yeah I, it was funny on the Kevin Williamson talk, he's like kind of the reason I got reinvested. Because when all of that stuff was going on in the firings and Ortega walking away and landing quit, I was like, oh, this is gonna be a dumpster fire. And the first thing they do is announce Williamson's coming back, then obviously Lillard's coming back. And Nev's coming back. Yeah. You're like, okay, that was me. was like, listening. I'm in, I'm gonna watch this movie. And then the reviews started coming out and I was like, oh, it's probably people just like not even watching it, giving it a low score because everything that that happened to it. So I'm still giving this, no, the scores were deserving. Yeah, it's, know, maybe, do wanna, I don't know, do you wanna rate it? We can. Yeah, this is gonna be kind of a tease for our franchise, so gonna do, what do you it, like, you wanna do one to 10? Yeah. What do you give it? I'll go five. Yeah, I was gonna go like four, four and a half. Yeah. ⁓ The only thing, that gets it to that for me is like Lillard and those two kills. Yeah. That's what, if you take Matt Lillard out of that film and those two kills, I literally might give it like a two. Like two or a three. I mean, it's just, it's not, I'm never gonna watch the movie again. I'm never gonna rewatch it unless we have to do something where we gotta rewatch it. But like, besides that, I'm not gonna watch No, it's really sad too, cause like the first six screen movies high replay value. ⁓ take- You throw any of them on? I'm down, I'm dialed. I'm I'm in. If this one's- know, a year from now or whatever. I'm like scrolling through Netflix or whatever it ends up being on and I see this movie, I'm never gonna click on it. No, if somebody starts playing it, I might leave the room. Yeah, 100%. Like, okay, cool. I'll go write on a script or something. ⁓ just not, if hanging out in a room though and... You know, somebody says, Oh, do you want to watch scream for answers? Yes. Every time. Yeah. Yeah. I'll watch scream for like Rosie or like regularly throw on 96. The OG. Oh man. Every time I'm on, I'm coming into the room. If that happens. Yeah. I'm stopping what I'm doing and I'm coming into the room. Yeah. I hear Becker talking and I'm like, Oh, yeah. I know what I'm doing. I hear this. And I got an answer. It's like, I find out seven and I'm like, no, I'm leaving. OK, so that's what you watched last week for me. I super nostalgia. I watched Jawbreaker ⁓ last week, ⁓ just an incredible film from my childhood. I watched with my partner and it was just it's such a fun film. It's clearly super, super heavily by Heather's. then Jawbreaker went on to be an inspiration for Mean Girls. Like it's talked about that ⁓ Girls is directly inspired by Heathers and Jawbreaker. It's just such a fun film. ⁓ So cool things. It's weird, it's zany, it's ridiculous, and I'm there for it every time. ⁓ And ⁓ I you can make the argument the most iconic we've ever seen Rose McGowan ⁓ is Jawbreaker. Her performance is just, she's the ultimate mean girl. She's so nasty in that movie. And I am there for it. She's so, so good. And that's a call back to original scream, obviously Tatum. Just amazing I could have taken more Tatum in the franchise, Yeah, absolutely. yeah, if she would have made it out, I would have been in. I think you'll like this one. I watched Nightmare on Elm Street, Dream Warriors. We're the dream warriors. So for me- rocking if you ain't docking, man. Yeah, for ⁓ me. right up there after the original as favorite. So I think for me, I'm made to rank all of them, I think it's original ⁓ for me. And then I think Dream Warriors is number two for me. ⁓ It's so much fun. I played the video game when I was a kid. It taps directly into, it's just like. Like Freddy is fantasy and then it's just fantasy on fantasy because they're playing characters. They can be these warriors. They can battle him. You know, there's like a wizard and there's, you know, a rock star and there's strong and you know, it's, it's like fantasy on fantasy and video game on video. It's so much fun. And it's really bringing Heather back was iconic and it's really, you know, prime time. I'm not going to Kurt, but like the prime time, you know, line. And I think we're really getting Freddie hitting his stride of being like the comical genius that he became. And I think my favorite kill in the franchise is the puppet. Yeah. The puppet kill. my god. It's so, good. And how it visually looks on screen. It just looks so cool. Yeah. Dream Warriors watched that again just because I was like, it was like getting late at night and I was like, ⁓ I can't sleep right now. Like, what do I want to watch? And just it popped into my head instantly. There was no rhyme or reason to it. I was a dream warrior. I went, well, that was easy. That's very iconic of you. Yeah. Right. That's just me. And I put it on and that nestled me into bed and put me to sleep. the pole of a lifetime. Yeah. Right. I was like, good on your brain. You could have just been like Nightmare on Ump Street. Yeah. But I went not dream warrior. Yeah. Iconic pool. Yeah. Yeah. So I was all about it. So that's what I watched. And I was I was feeling pretty good about that. Fantastic movie. Let's get into what's going on in the industry right now. I think let's jump on kind of what we were just talking about. Scream 7 is projected to be the biggest opening for any Scream movie ever. I think right now it's projected between like 60 and 70 million dollars. I'm surprised by that. Not because Scream is... Get into why. Get into the why. Scream is this monster of franchise. Everybody loves Scream. If you're not a horror movie fan, you still like Scream. My buddy Chris. Sorry, Chris. I'm calling you out. Hates horror films. They scare him. Yeah, he's scared. He gets nightmares. I'll hold you someday man. No Chris loves scream. Yeah loves a scream franchise It's just that it's that horror franchise. That's for everybody. Yeah, so it doesn't surprise me in that aspect It surprises me because there's so many people out there. They're saying boycott scream 7 Don't go see it because of everything that happened which is totally valid like, you know, people can have their opinions people I'm just that type of person that I'm going to see everything. Yeah, that's just how I ⁓ yeah. I see everything. Yeah And I do love the Scream franchise. it's, know, and then like I said, they announced Williamson, F. Campbell, Willard. They kind of pulled me back. Yeah, I was gonna say like, what is it? What is it you think, if you had to pinpoint, what is the thing that is making this the highest grossing Scream? I'm shocked. I don't know. I don't know what the thing that's been, because maybe Matthew Willard. That's all I can think. I was actually gonna say, I think maybe Matt Lowe. He is, you know, he is... He's so skyrocketed right now. Obviously the Scooby-Doo franchise, the Scream franchise, the Five Nights at Freddy's. But the work he's doing right now, ⁓ work in the Comic Cons, we've both, ⁓ worked with him multiple times, you've met him multiple times, ⁓ we can both attest to he's an A plus all-star human. Matthew Lua, obviously I know that you're listening to our episode, episode three ⁓ Backrow Critics. ⁓ out, we'll let you come on in a future episode, congrats. he is and it's I'm not not gonna I'm not gonna talk bad about celebrities that I've met I've met a bunch of them I'm never gonna specifically talk bad about ones I'm not gonna call people out, but I'm also not gonna be s Matt Lillard is an all-star human being yeah He's an incredible person, ⁓ and I people know it. I think it's gotten out videos of him You've met him at cons he He changes people just saw him do the, what is it, the last meal? What's last meal episode? ⁓ Watching the way he, he has an entire segment where he just talks about cons and how it changed his life ⁓ and he's gotten to meet people and you see the emotion, he starts crying talking about it, meeting the fans and how much it's impacted him and changed. ⁓ I him getting announced for this, it just took the buzz for this movie to a different level and I think so many casual fans, that maybe aren't huge horror fans, but they've met Matt Lillard, they're going to see this movie. And you're going with your parents, right? Because your mom or dad watched the original screen with Matt Lillard in it, and they want to see him back. So I think him and Neve Campbell is really probably what The people aren't looking at Kevin Williamson like we are. That's not a poll for the casual They're not like Kevin Williamson. ⁓ man. I'll line up. Yeah. Dawson's crazy. I think it's Matt Lillard, ⁓ and I think it's Neve Campbell. Also, I think a dark horse person too, McKenna Grace. She's everywhere right now. She's been in a million different franchises. Young Sheldon's a very popular show that she's in as well. Yeah, I think that she's huge right now. She's also in the latest Five Nights at Freddy's. Yeah, exactly. And I think rightfully so, I got the chance to meet her as well and work with her. and she's an absolute sweetheart of a person. She feels very genuine. Like what you see on all the interviews and stuff, that's really how she is. She's very giggly. She's great with the fans. McKenna Grace, you've earned the right to come on a future episode. Congrats. But yeah, she's really amazing with the fans, just like Lillard. So I think we are kind of in this realm and world where kindness really matters. And the impressions that people like McKenna and like Matt Lillard have left on fans has really mattered. I think people are coming to the theaters for that. In a world full of celebrities that will cut the line short because they're getting tired, which is totally valid. It's got to be an exhausting day. Matthew Laird will stay open past the close. First time I ever worked with him, we stayed almost two hours after close and he met every single fan. I was standing right next to him. I watched this happen. He said to the crowd, if you guys stay, I'll stay. The crowd lost their minds and then he screamed, we're staying. That's every single celebrity was gone. Every line was empty. Lights were turned off. and he met every single fan. Dude is a world class human. When I met him at Steel City Con, somebody in our group, I can't remember who was, asked if he was gonna do another Scooby Doo. And he was like, dude, I'm effing 55 years old, however old he said. And I was like, so stream seven. And he looked at me and went, gave me a little shrug and I was like, oh. Yeah, you're like, oh that's happening. And that was before everything happened. And then like all that started happening. was like, I'm out on this movie. And then they, and I was like, I knew it. A lot of people I saw when I was working with a lot of people asked him, like, are you going to do the new scream? What sucks is I feel like if everything with that movie that didn't what happened with that movie didn't happen, we would have gotten Matthew Willard, but in a surprise. Yeah, I agree. I think they had to say he's in this movie to draw people to people back. So that probably is a bummer. But if they would have Andrew Garfield, Tobey Maguire, Spider-Man surprised it. like Lillard put him out there to do press and he'd be like, guys, I'm sorry, but like, I'm not in this movie. And then you see him. If I felt convinced he wasn't in it and saw him, I would have lost my mind. would have clapped. I would have clapped in the theater. I would have lost my mind. lands. But no, I totally agree. I think they had to put him out there and eventually had him like admit like, yeah, I'm gonna be in it to build up press. Yeah. Other thing that's going on in the industry right now, Paramount apparently buying Warner Brothers. What are your thoughts? Do you think it's a thing where it's like, oh, this is a bummer it's happening, or is this more on the side of this was inevitable? I think it was inevitable. I will say I'm happy it's not Netflix. OK, that's interesting. Why? Why are you happy? Is it because it's basically theatrical versus streaming? Yes, that's exactly why. was a little bummed how Netflix was talking about how they were going to do what, like 16 day theater windows? I'm like, give these movies longer runs. No, you get two weeks to watch a movie and you're going, Oh, and then, you know, this time ties into the third thing I was gonna do, but AMC announcing they're like tiers. Have you heard about this? They're tiers of membership now. We're like, if you're in this top tier of membership, which is like 30 some dollars a month, 30 some, you got to invest like over $400 a year, right? And you get now prime choice of seats. Seats are reserved for members automatically now. And if the members don't take them, the best seats, center aisle seats can now be made quote, available to non-members. So they're taking the best seats in house and automatically giving them to the people that are paying like 400 bucks a year. And I was like, AMC, I understand where your mind is at, but this is a cash grab. Like gross thing. Cinemark's the closest one, but I'm a big Cinemark fan. I I am too. We have one right down the road from us and we go to that theater anytime we can. I actually went to that Cinemark after filming one day. Great theater. Yeah. Great theater. Love it. Yeah. Big theater, comfy seats. Yeah. I saw Predator there. Good. Yeah. I love how Cinemark does things. Yeah, I do too. AMC, you're shooting yourselves in the foot. really think this is a huge mistake. Cinemark's starting to get really good merch too. AMC was like the premier place I feel like to get like popcorn buckets and stuff but cinemark cinemarks their game year two years has I mean you can see them all over my yeah my basement especially the horror icons yeah but yeah I I'm a big fan of cinema but I on Paramount I just I feel like with a Netflix original film you get it you're only gonna get two weeks in theaters okay you expect to go to Netflix But for like a Warner Brothers film, So many properties too. If like, yeah, if like the Batman came out and it was only in theaters for two weeks or the Batman 2. I would be so mad. be punching the air. Yeah. You so I'm happy Paramount got it in that sense. And I think they would too. I think I think this. This is not hyperbole. This is real. This could cause films to break their contracts and pay. Yeah, like this. I could see Matt Reeves going, no, are you kidding me? Wait. So I spent four years working on the Batman 2 and you're gonna put it in theaters for two weeks? Yeah, no, I'm gonna pay a $5 million fee and break my contract. And then I'm gonna go to a different studio and the studio is gonna go, cool, we'll give you a better deal and we'll give you a one month release in theaters. I could see Matt Reeves going, cool, I'm doing that. You know what I mean? Like. Cause it's gonna make more than $5 million in the first show time. the 10 a.m. show. You know, you know, in that. I'm happy that, you know, that happened. But I definitely saw this coming because the people that purchased Warner Brothers, what was it like, 2021, I think it was, they literally said, we're looking to make a profit from this. And people went, what does that mean? And I went, well, I know what that means. They're looking to turn this over and sell this really fast. And they're making a huge, huge profit. Now buying Paramount's gonna be more worth it. And you're get that whole catalog too. Okay. Like I said, I don't like to bash things, even though we've done that with Scream 7 already and here we go with this. The worst streaming app I've ever experienced in my life is Paramount. It's not one of my favorites. I think so. Will is a kind man. It is the worst streaming app. Like Netflix, I'm glad that Netflix didn't buy, I didn't want anybody to buy Warner Brothers. They have enough money that they could have gone on for the next 300 years making movies and they would have been fine, right? But Netflix streaming app is great. Yeah, it's a good like I love HBO Max streaming app fantastic fantastic streaming app paramount streaming app is garbage for me I really don't like it like we have really good internet and it's constantly like taking forever to load It will just crash out in the middle of a movie It'll just close the app on for and I'm like, what are you like? What what is it? ⁓ and you bought Warner Brothers cool and you can't even fix an app like so I didn't have a lot of confidence a Movie fan. ⁓ hope with everything in me that I'm wrong. Yeah, I hope that you know, a year from now, five years from now, we can look back at this and go, cool, we were wrong. Paramount is crushing this. They are fully supporting Warner Brothers. They're cutting them loose, letting them do their own things. They're financing projects where they can be more creative. They're supporting indie films. Like I hope as a movie lover, I'm wrong, but I don't think I am. And that's what makes me sad. Yeah. Yeah, that's fair. So Paramount show up, you know, make it good. Prove us wrong. I feel like with what they did and what they paid, they have to. That investment. You can't do that and then just sweep it under the rug. gotta do something. Yeah, so prove us wrong. CEO of Paramount, if you want to come on and talk to us, think about it. We'll a meeting about it. We'll let you know. McKenna Grace, right? Yeah, ⁓ right. yeah, ⁓ interesting. Let us know what's happening in the industry that you guys care about right now. What do you think of Scream What do you think of the Paramount purchase? us know what your thoughts are on everything. And let us know if you're gonna buy this AMC pass. I'm not going to. I don't think Will's going to. But let us know. I don't have plus stuff to an AMC. Yeah, let us know if you wanna pay over 400 bucks a year for a pass. All right, we're gonna drop into one of our favorite segments of the podcast, Rotten Tomatoes. got three fun ones for you. ⁓ Curious to hear thoughts. We're gonna jump straight in. All of you out there listening, give us your thoughts on these three as well. Any other ones you want us to do. Gladiator. Russell Crowe Gladiator. 80 % on Rotten Tomatoes with 265 reviews. And we're gonna give our too high, too low, or just right. And we're gonna give that in three, two, one. Too low. This is 100. My too low though. might be for completely different reason than yours is. Because My Too Low is not for Russell Crowe. Too Low is not for the visuals. It is not for the directing. It's not even for the story. My Too Low is because ⁓ is ⁓ first moment that I Joaquin Phoenix on screen and I went, this guy is ⁓ one the next guys. His scene to his sister of the Am I Not Merciful? It's the best scene in the whole movie. It completely steals the entire film. I think he plays one of the most interesting villains I've ever seen in a movie. like, you know, when he's loved by the people, he's bright and cheery and happy. His intense, intense pain because of his disappointment with his father and him. His wanting, I do believe he wants Maximus to be like his brother in the beginning. ⁓ And he gets this rejection from his father. and he lashes out at his father and his brother, who he wants. that scene with his sister, the Am I Not Merciful scene is the best scene in the movie. And that alone is why it's too low for me. It's his third best performance of his career. ⁓ right, what's two and one? It's probably his best performance, but I do love him. I do love him in Signs and Joker, obviously. First Joker, I absolutely love. Signs is my favorite M. Night movie. Signs is my favorite Alien movie. I'm totally there with you with that. But for me, the best performance he's ever done in his entire career for me is Ingladiator. Yeah. Yeah. No, it's too low for me because, I mean, it was the best picture. That's one of the ones that got right. Yeah. Yeah. So it can't be an I was really surprised when I saw 80%. I was like, how did it get that low? I would have expected like a 92. I really thought it was gonna be 90 plus. I'd still say that's too low. Yeah, that's why I wanted to bring this one up, because when I saw it, went, huh? Yeah, I was like, wow, I'm actually really shocked, too. Yeah, Scott, too. Yeah, so all of you out there, let us know. Gladiator, 80%. Too low, too high, or just right? So next movie, we going Nostalgia to the Max. Raiders of the Lost Ark. Raiders, for of you out there, what do you think it is? Off the top of your head, Jeopardy music's playing. Raiders of the Lost Ark is a 94 % on Rotten Tomatoes with 157 reviews. I was shocked it didn't have that many, but I guess when it came out that long ago, they're one as many critics, know? So maybe that's why, but 94 % with 157 reviews is at too high, too lower, just right. And we're gonna go in three, two, one, just right. I want you to go first, because you said too high. So what score do you give it? I'd probably give it like an eight, eight and half. I think it's a great movie. 80, 85 % for you? I'd give it, it's a great movie. Temple of Doom and Last Crusade are both better. Okay, yeah, interesting. For me, I said just right because Last Crusade is the best one of the series for me. Last Crusade, think, is literal perfection start to finish. I give Raiders all the props in the world because you introduced us to Indiana Jones. For sure. And I think it's maybe... I think you can make the argument for maybe one of the best opening scenes of any movie ever. That introduction to him of like, ⁓ Molina, you know, and all these things, you know, and kind of sneak around. You don't fully see his face. You see his back. You see the fedora. You see the whip. You hear the whip crack. And then he walks into the light and then the whole thing in the temple. ⁓ of the coolest openings to a movie gives an iconic character. know, so I think the movie is great start to finish. I have very few flaws. with the film, but I think it's just right primarily because Last Crusade is a hundred out of a hundred for me. It's like a perfect movie for me. I think for me, I tend to be more on the subjective side when I I rate movies. Yeah. Because at the end of the day, like I get there's an objective to movies. There's the cinematography. There's the acting. There's the writing. All of that. And I take that into consideration. Obviously, you have to when you're when you consider yourself an amateur critic. But I am one of those, what I'd say, critics that looks at the entertainment standpoint of a movie and weighs it heavy in my decisions. And Indiana Jones was just never one of those franchises that hit as hard for me as most people. like even like I'd say Temple of Doom is my favorite and I still would say it's probably like an eight and a half or nine. Of the original trilogy, Temple of Doom is definitely my least favorite. See, I know that's like Temple of Doom is a hot take. I think it's the best Indiana Jones movie. Yeah, it's definitely my least favorite. For me, that movie is not fun at all. I have like no fun watching Temple of Doom. don't. It's like, no, I just don't have any fun watching that movie. That's crazy. Yeah. Yeah. But I mean, we can agree, though, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is garbage, right? I don't think it's garbage, but it's not great garbage. It's definitely well, it's not as bad as Dile of Destiny. Facts. We agree. All right. Cool. Will and I are on the same page. That is the worst of the worst. Yeah. So bad. But like things that Spielberg has touched like there's so many more movies I'd rather watch than any of the other. And I know that that's, guess, probably kind of a hot take. Yeah. I would actually say that is because I think it's one of his most beloved characters. And I think it's one of the most beloved franchises. Yeah. I also think this might be kind of an interesting thing that points out maybe our age gap because literally grew up with this. Yeah. Like it came out before I was born. Yeah. But like. in my family, in my family, in my group of friends, we watched, I would have movie nights where we watched Raiders, where we watched Last Crusade. And so I think nostalgia factors may be playing a role for me. And we do have the age gap, but like I still have a lot of nostalgia for Spielberg because I grew up on Jaws, Jurassic Park, know direct it, but Goonies he produced Because we both love movies that came out before either of us were born. So I totally get that. I just mean, any of those was just one that wasn't showed to me. Yeah. And I watched, I think maybe less age gap, more nostalgia factor. Yeah. Because I grew up watching these movies. I the first time I watched the original trilogy was like two years ago. Oh, wow. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. So, you know, I watched Raiders probably. I was like nine or 10. Yeah. When I watched Raiders, I still think they're fan out like eight, eight and a half to nine. But nothing to sniff at. Things absolutely affect you differently when you're a kid than when you're an adult. You just look at the world differently. So For those of you listening, what do you think about Raiders? Do you think being ranked 94 % too high or too low? just right. Last film for the Rotten Tomatoes ranking is Scream 4. Okay. So for those of you out there, Scream 4 kind of brought the franchise back to life. We got Emma Roberts in the franchise and we got a Culkin in the franchise and really kind of introduced new rules. Scream movie and what a 22 year gap. Yeah. Weird right three was 2000 and scream five was 2022. Yeah, so brought back brought back the franchise right in middle to it. Yeah. Yeah. Brought back the franchise made some really interesting choices for those of you out there listening. What do you think scream for? It is a 61 % on Rotten Tomatoes with 190 reviews. So 61 % Do you guys think too high too low? Just right? Let us know. We're going to rank it 61%. Too high, too lower, just right, and three, two, one, too low. Yeah. Too low. I love Scream 4. I think I have a blast with it. is the only movie under that score. Yeah, probably. I would give all the screen movies at least a seven. would give ⁓ the screen movies, I think I'm going to go with you, at least a 70 % on ⁓ Rotten Tomatoes. I would give everyone except for Scream 7. Even Scream 3, which I know is like the dark horse, I still think it's a seven out of 10. I'm not gonna get too much into it, because we're gonna review the whole franchise. Scream 4 61 % I think is way too low. I think it's disrespectfully low. would say way too low. I do, would put, because percentage wise, I would put it in like mid 70s. I'd put 70. Yeah, so I think we get some really fun moments, we get some really fun kills. One of my favorite final acts of any Scream franchise is this one. I love the final I'm so excited to talk about this franchise. I think it's one of the worst final I love this final act so much. leave the debate for next episode. I do think it's too low. think that... Teaser is we're gonna argue over the final act. Yeah, I love it. ⁓ I'm so ready. But yeah, it's a super fun movie. I think 61 is ⁓ too It's definitely low, yeah. ⁓ I think with not having a screen film for so long, the expectations were really, really high. And I think really met or exceeded a lot of expectations. So was happy with it. Is this the last film that Craven did? think. I believe so, yeah. So, yeah. Leave it in the office. And you can see his fingerprints all over. Yeah. And I think that's part of, you know, I love- Four, the first four and then five through seven feel completely different. ⁓ it's so hard to not get into this because I want to. I completely agree with you though. Yeah. Yeah. I think one through four and five, six and seven feel like different franchises. Yeah. Yeah. So, but yeah, his fingerprints are all over it and you know, I think 61 is way too low. yeah, so let us know out there what you guys think. So Gladiator 80%, Raiders 94 % and Screamforce 61%. Do you guys think that's too high, too low, just right? And then what movies do you want us to review on Rotten Tomatoes that you either love or you hate? Let us know in the comments. All well, let's jump into our hot take of the week. I have mine primed and ready to go. Go ahead. All right. ⁓ Hot take of the week, the Thunderbolts was better than Superman and Fantastic Four First Steps. That is crazy. And I say that because, your reaction, I can see it bubbling up as well. crazy. So I think Fantastic Four First Steps is fine. That's literally how I describe it. It's fine. It's fine. And I think Superman is good. Nine out 10. I think Superman is good. There's nothing wrong with it. I had... exponentially more fun with Thunderbolts than I did Superman and Fantastic Four. that's why it's a hot take for me. team, I ⁓ 100 % I was balled in. The of that team was so good. Watching them fight Sentry was so much fun. ⁓ And the void and watching those things happen, watching them going into the void and the sacrifices they're willing to make. I love the Thunderbolts because also gave us a break from the superhero fatigue that I needed. It's not bright, it's not colorful, it's not happy-go-lucky. These people are depressed, they're pissed off, they're mad. People in their lives have died, they have lost. They are the bad guys that have lost over and over and over to the good guys, and they're trying to make things right the best way that they can. And even the people that are helping them make things right betray them. ⁓ it's just like, this is a group of people that have had people turn on them, they've lost, they've had people in their lives be killed, and they're still with everything they can trying to do the right thing. And I bought into it 100%. I love their performances. It's super fun. I laughed a lot. I cried. The action's really fun. I just thought it was great. And it gave us a break from the superhero fatigue that I needed. All that being said, nothing wrong with Fantastic Four, nothing wrong with Superman, but... If somebody said to me, got these three. If you said to me, hey, I got these three movies, which one do you want to watch today? My answer's Thunderbolts. That would be Superman. Yeah. me. I'm a Marvel guy. And my whole thing is I have no problem with that. Right? Like if you said Superman is a better movie than Thunderbolts, I'm not going to sit here and argue with you. It's like, that's cool. They're so close that it's a personal take. All three of those movies are great. And my just personal take is of the three of them, I'll watch Thunderbolts first. It is a hot take though, because I feel like most people pick one 100%. Yeah. That's why I gave it a shot. Yeah. So for me, I'll just, I'll call back to the last episode with the Academy Awards. For my hot take, I'm gonna say everything everywhere all at once is a five out of 10. So you would put it in the category of one of the most massively overrated. Yes. Like best picture. the only two Oscars I could get down with it winning of the seven at one would be Best Supporting with Kihei Kwan. Best Supporting Actor. The actress was obviously a legacy pick. And editing. It was very well edited. I think that movie's dumb. The editing is I think the story's I ⁓ have fun watching that movie. Five out of ten. And I feel like that is a big hot take, I guess. Because it was so loved. People adore that movie. And I watched it. It ⁓ loved. It's interesting. I'm going back right now and I'm actually researching the Academy Awards for that year and the winners and the nominees and all of that. And so if everything everywhere is not winning best picture, do you have all quieter in the Western front, Avatar, Banshees of Inisheer, and Elvis, the Fableman's, Tar, Top Gun Maverick, Triangle of Sadness, or Women Talking winning? Fableman's or Banshees of Inisheer. Oh my God, the way, me just reading that list off, I would have taken maybe five of them. Oh, I would have put Maverick ahead of it too. Okay, so for me. Here, list them again and I'll say what I would have put ahead of it. so all quiet on the Western front. Avatar, Way of Water. Banshees. Way Ahead. Elvis. We gotta do an episode on that. I think it's one of the most overrated movies I've ever seen in my life. Fablemen's. Way Ahead. Tar. Ahead. Top Gun Maverick. Way Ahead. Triangle Sadness. Ahead. Women Talking. I don't know if I watch Women Talking. Okay, so I promise you all we did not talk about this beforehand, right? Well, we did not. No. I would re-watch. every single one of those nominations before I won. Holy crap, I never realized this until right now. Thank you for bringing this up, because I never, I was- I think Fablemen's and Banshee's are both criminally like I Fablemen's is exquisite. I think Banshee's have been a-sharing. I think Barry Keoghan's performance in Banshee's have been a-sharing. That scene- I think all the performances. By the water, it's all great, but that scene by the water, he asks her if she could ever see herself being with somebody like him, and she so gently puts him down. Barry Keoghan scene in that movie, I would say his scene is better than the entire film of everything everywhere. That scene for him, because it is exquisite. It's so I didn't know I was gonna get this reaction from you. No, but I thought you're gonna be like everybody else I talked to. They're like, you're an idiot. No, no, no, because I'm looking at Tar is one of her best performances of her career. Gun Maverick is one of the most fun movies I've ever seen in theaters in my life. I think it's better than the original for another take. I think there's anything wrong with that. Top Gun Maverick is great. Triangle Sadness is an incredibly well-made film. Women Talking is some of the best dialogue I've ever seen in any movie ever. Like, yeah, I would, all quiet on the Western Front is visually stunning to look at. But like, when I was watching those Academy Awards and it was bringing home, like I said, I'd give it editing, I'd give Kea Quinn, but like I was like, family members are banshees for best picture. Best director I think should have been Spielberg or... ⁓ Martin McDonough for Banshees. I would have given it to Martin McDonough for Banshees. it was incredible. think that Carrie Condon should have best supporting actress. Yes, I agree. Yeah, Carrie Condon was in Banshees. She was ⁓ good. Yeah. I really wanted Colin Farrell to win best actor, but I was really happy with. ⁓ The whale, can't think of his name. ⁓ Brandon Frazier. Brandon Frazier, yeah. I was very happy with him. I wanted ⁓ Paul Miscael for After Sun. Yeah. win. Yeah. I would have been okay too. Because that was a heartbreaking performance. performance. That opened the doors for him big time. ⁓ yeah, was, yeah, yeah, for sure. But ⁓ yeah, and Fablemans were actually Who would you taken over? Michelle, yo, for everything. ⁓ Kate Blanchett not made for TAR, Anna DeArmas for blonde, Andrea Reisbauer for, to Leslie, and Michelle Williams for the Fableman. I would taken- I would have taken Williams or Blanchett. So me, best performance that year was Andrea Reisbauer for It Leslie. ⁓ That had a massive impact. So my film that we, I just but I say we because you were on the team, ⁓ Better Places Go. ⁓ I took lot of inspiration from It Leslie for Better Places to Go. Yeah, it's an incredible film. But yeah, that hot take I think would be a hot take for the vast majority of people, but. Because we're similar nerds, think I agree with you. You're locked in. Yeah, I agree. love it. Yeah. Okay, so you guys let us know out there. Do you agree with the heart takes or are we crazy? We don't care, but let us know. The Thunderbolts. It's better than Superman and Fantastic Four ⁓ everything everywhere. One of, ⁓ I'm paraphrasing one of the most overrated films of all time in Will's opinion. Yeah. Would you say five out of 10? Yeah. All right. So let us know your guys thought. What did you think? think it won more Oscars in the rating? Um, probably at least get a seven out of 10, right? No, five is you feel strong. All right. So we're rounding out this week with our movie of the week. And if you listen to our Academy Award episode, our Oscars episode, which you haven't, if you haven't, definitely check it out because I think it's a, it's a really cool episode. You'll hear a lot about this film, but our movie of the week is Sinners. Will, I really want you to ⁓ kind headline this one because I can say that I really, really liked Sinners a lot, but I feel like your love for the film makes me want to go back and watch it. So I would love it if you let us off with this one. For me, I think the easiest first line for this movie and reviewing it is, it's not a surprise to me that it got 16. at the Academy. It's such a creative, it's a work of art. It's a work of art. I said it a few times when we were doing the Oscars episode. It's this Jim Crow ⁓ Southern United States period piece about these twin brothers that move back. They have things going against them, but they're trying to open up this like almost speakeasy. And vampires come into play. Like it almost doesn't feel like it should be a sentence that I just said, right? You know what I mean? No, ⁓ it's unnatural. It worked. Yeah, somehow it worked. It's got some of the best music, both song and score. ⁓ And you kind of you expect that with Ludwig Goranson, obviously. But Miles Catten for him. And it just blows me away that this is debut because he just incredible. He was fantastic. mean, he's biggest snub at the academies. And I mentioned that in the last episode. ⁓ But outside of that, I think you get the excuse you the best of Michael B. Jordan. You get the best of, and she's not even that big of a role, but I think this is some of the best acting you see from Hailey Steinfeld as well. Steinfeld. Yeah, she's great. Delroy, get, there's just across the board. The acting is fantastic. It's an incredible cast. It's like, yeah. Which is also nominated for cast, which is new. I think it'll win that for sure. one of the 12. One of the yeah, if you if you want to know about our wills predictions of how many Oscars it's going to win check out our last episode episode two, but uh, no is You know diving into some of the things was nominated for cinematography. I think it was one of the it was the most beautiful movie I watched last year. I know Last year was a very competitive year for cinematography because there's a lot of beautiful I mean, I Frankenstein was even beautiful and I wouldn't even put a top three last year and cinematography So that's a tough category to take at it. But Sinner is just we've we talked about it, the use of colors and just the shots that I get in that movie. And it's just the editing is something that we didn't even really talk about. Yeah. editing of the film, the one scene that sticks out with me when it comes to editing is the scene where Michael B. Jordan hands Michael B. Jordan a cigarette. I know. And there's an entire like you can watch an entire YouTube thing about how they made that. that scene in particular, like Ryan Coogler goes into the whole thing about how they shot that and how they made it. Yeah. But then Ryan Coogler, mean, he's just this, he's this visionary. becoming one of my favorite directors. He's one of those guys that if he's putting something out there, I don't even need to watch the trailer. I'm going day one. I mentioned a few other names in our last episode last week. ⁓ Robert Eggers another one of those guys. There's just these group of ⁓ young directors that already have three to five films under their belt that are fantastic, that deserve all of the awards I could throw at them. And so there are these guys now that I trust. I trust. know, if Coogler is making a film, I don't need to watch trailer. I don't need to the synopsis. My tickets already bought. Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely. And Sinners was a big part in that too. Yeah. It's just, my opinion, it was the movie of the year. I really hope it wins best picture because what it would do for horror. I've always been I'm obviously both of us huge movie fans. But I've always horror and coming of age have always been like the two genres that stick with me when I watch them. And this would just be huge for that genre. Silence of Lambs one of my favorite last to do it. Yeah. So which is crazy how long ago 35 years in the making. That's wild. Yeah. I don't I don't really disagree with anything that you said. I think it's an incredible film. It's so beautifully put together. ⁓ everything it's one of those movies where everything is taken such good care of. Yeah. Like the writing is, is so precise and so good. The directing, the cinematography, the score, everything feels maybe the, maybe the best way to say it is everything feels surgical. Yeah. Everything feels so precisely done and with so much care and so much love and so much heart. Michael B. Jordan is giving it his all. and that he is giving everything, the whole cast. mean, everybody's really giving it their all. one of those films that's so beautifully crafted. ⁓ vampire wise, it kind of reminds me of a film. And this might sound crazy. Anybody out there that's seen both of them because they're they could not be more different, but they're both vampire films. Let the right one in. OK, because vampire and coming of age. Yeah, that's you know, that's what it is. And it's and it's it's ⁓ in that way, too, because it's. Let the Right One In starts off as a movie about a boy who's shy and bullied and picked on. And it's about his relationship with his mother and his non-existent relationship with his father and the kids that pick on him in school. And you're like, OK, this is a drama. This just feels like a drama. And then he meets a weird little girl outside who's not wearing shoes. And what? This girl's weird. And then it becomes a vampire movie. And Sinners is very similar in that starts as a movie. about family and friendship and a brotherhood and trust and trying to build something from nothing and, and trying to build something in a place that doesn't want you. Maybe, maybe you're trying to carve out your own path in the world, right? So it feels like this kind of coming of age, dramatic film about family and love and friendship and business and all this. And then on a dime, it becomes a vampire film as well. And that's what let the right one in does. me, let the right one in is still my favorite vampire movie of all time. And I think, you know, does, you know, and you want to look at something like the Lost Boys, right? Relationship Between Brothers. It's about family moving to a new place, ⁓ your place in the world. ⁓ it's weird. I didn't really think about it until right now, but, ⁓ we're talking about three vampire movies that are ⁓ top tier and so exquisite and they all don't start as vampire movies. They start as movies about relationships and family and friendship. and loneliness and isolation and trying to find your way in the world. And then vampire gets introduced. Yeah. Right. And then it becomes a key. But it's like maybe my three favorite vampire movies all do not start as vampire. You know, they're not called Dracula. They're called the Lost Boys. They're called Let the Right One In. They're called sinners. They're not like a vampire name. Yeah. You look at the movie poster and you see the things and you're like, yeah, we're going to know. It's fraught to Dracula. I know what this is. That's not what you get. No, get you get so much more. There's so much substance to sinners. And it's it's like I said, it's a work of art. Yeah, it's something I wish I could just hang on the wall. Yeah, it's a beautifully crafted film. And I think that. You know, let's talk about the Oscars and what we think because we did our last episode, you know, do you put jumping off of our last episode, you know, over under? if you had to like look at it, how many Oscars it wins? rewind back to the last episode, Episode two, we talk about, you talk a lot about how many you think it's gonna win. What would your over or under be for how many Oscars you think it walks away with? Like you think over or under 10? Do you think it's gonna actually hit double digits? Not like nostalgia or like what you want. Do you actually think Sinners will hit double digits? I think it can. think it can win best picture. Let's go down the line. I think it can win best director. ⁓ Michael B. Jordan. I think it can win both supporting. That's six. Score. Seven. Original song. Eight. Casting. Nine. Editing. That's right there that I think it could fullheartedly win. ⁓ And you start throwing in, I think costume, hair and makeup could be tough because Frankenstein will be up there. There's a lot of great costume, hair makeup. It could. And then I think it's going to win screenplay, original screenplay. ⁓ That's 11. for sure that I think it could win. it if it did that, like if it if it cleaned up the Oscars like that, unlike any film ever has before. Yeah. I mean, it changes the industry, right? It changes everything. You changes everything for like so. And what would be really huge for it, too, is if it cleaned up and then Frankenstein came in and won a couple because it would be horror again. Yeah. Damn. Could you imagine if Sinners won? 11 Oscars and Frankenstein won like two. You would be like what? 13 Oscars and horror. This would be like you'd. And then all like the dramatic films when like three collect the 98th academies would go down in the books. Yeah. Oh yeah. It would be the spooky Academy Awards. These spooky season. no, it's like I think that would change my conversations with people a lot because a lot of times and I don't know if this happens to you, but a lot of times, you know, I'll still interact with people and you know, what are your favorite movies of all time? And I'm, you know, naming movies like, you know, original Halloween and the thing and you know, I'm naming movies like that and I will, still have people, oh, you know, you're a horror fan. And it's like, and I think if you have a horror film that wins like 11 Oscars, get rid of that conversation. Like I don't want to hear anymore, like, oh, you like horror movies. And it's like, well, yeah, apparently me and the rest of the world does too because of how much it grossed and because of how many awards at once. So like, I feel like that conversation of like, oh, you're just, you're quote, just a horror fan. out the window. Like we're done with that if it breaks a record for most Oscar wins. Yeah. And I think the cool thing too with Sinners is it's definitely more of a horror film than Silence of the Lambs. Silence of the Lambs I would say is my favorite horror movie of all time. One of, if not my favorite. But it's definitely more of a thriller. Yeah, Silence of I would actually consider... I would put it in the category of even more of like drama thriller than I would horror. I mean, the Buffalo Bill stuff. Yeah. Just fully... I mean that basement scene. I mean, it's intense, right? But no, I do think it's more of a thriller and drama than it is horror. So think this would just be something that pushes it even further, you know? So I think it'd be huge. It's funny because I watch the Academy Awards every year. This is probably the most excited I've been to watch them, just because I want to see what can they win. Yeah, I would say this is maybe the most excited I've been about the Oscars in definitely a few years. If I'm setting a line as like, I'm Vegas. and I have to set a line over under one, probably six and a half. think that they're gonna say- That's your safe zone. I think that if like you're ⁓ person making the line, you're saying six and a half in the sense that can this win as many as everything in world wants. I don't think you're setting the line at 10 and a half. Like can ⁓ break the record? Because nobody's gonna take the over. Vegas take that because the I put money on the over. But the payout would be so huge. But I think if like ⁓ the that is setting the line for this, I think you're looking at six, seven and a half. All right, so mean but you ready? Are you ready for this? hate it too. I'm gonna I'm gonna play some fun devil's advocate here. Okay Where is that line where the Oscars finish and you go screw this? I hate this industry. This was so disrespectful like underline Yeah, like if sinner, okay, let me throw this at you sinners wins three Oscars Are you how? Disrespected will you feel on behalf of that film? three Oscars are like editing, doesn't win acting awards, it doesn't win writing, it doesn't win picture, it doesn't win director. Okay, I'm out. Right? I'm getting at three. If they won two Oscars and it was picture and director, you're good. I'm a happy camper. What if it won? But if it won five and it's, if won like four five and it's not it's mostly, yeah. So where- I would still be happy, because I think that winning anything is still gonna be great Yeah, I guess kind of where is that, do you- do you want it to be more of an even balance between what we call the creative and the technical awards? Or would you prefer that it was more creative or more of the technical? I would want a good mix, but if it only takes home one in its best picture, I still think that's huge for the genre. Would it feel odd though if it only won one award and it was best picture? If best picture, I feel like- That's when you're looking around and you're going, what? If it wins best picture in director, think that gives it the serious case at breaking the record. So if it wins those two? It's gonna win. you still gonna be happy if it did like a say it takes home, right? Say it gets best supporting actress and it gets best supporting actor and then maybe like one or two technical awards. No more creative, not writing, not picture, not director, but it gets like two acting and it gets too creative and two technical awards. Are you gonna be happy? Are you gonna be like, ⁓ I should probably still be a little bummed. Yeah, right. But I guess it depends on what wins it too though. Cause like I said, this is a year. where there's a lot of films that I'm okay with getting the rest. Like if Michael B. Jordan lost because Timothee Chalamet won, I wouldn't be mad at that. You know what mean? And same thing with Best Picture. Like if Sinners lost because Marty Supreme won, I adored Marty Supreme. So. That's definitely not gonna happen. It's not. just one of those years that it's like. ⁓ if. Like everything every role at once that year, going back to that conversation, when it kept winning, I was just getting pissed because I didn't like the movie and I loved the fabled men's and banshees in the show. Fablemen's is probably one of the more disrespected movies I've seen in quite a long time. Like I think Michelle Williams 100 % should have won for that movie as best supporting actress. Like I thought she was so, so good in the Fablemen's. Paul Dano was so good I think she was actually up for best actress. Or best actress, yeah. And Paul Dano was up for best supporting, I believe. Yeah. Yeah. Like, you know, it was, it was... Which best supporting is one of the ones I won't argue for everything at once. and his speak here once. Yeah. Oh my gosh. I like my mom's like 84 years old. Mom, watched that a couple of weeks ago. It's beautiful. But you know, I'm I'm really curious of what if it just gets really gutted? Like I'm I have a nightmare scenario, right? Of like, here's your nightmare scenario, right? Like what if no, you know what? I shouldn't say it that way because I don't want to disrespect any other films because we've got a lot of really strong films this year. So I'm not gonna say nightmare scenario, I'm gonna say scenario, right? What if- Unlikely. ⁓ what if best picture director goes to one battle, ⁓ if Chalamet or DiCaprio wins best actor, right? What if best supporting actor is ⁓ Stellan What if best supporting actress is Amy Madigan for weapons? What if best original screenplay, you know, is something, what if literally- The Oscars end and Sinners has won two awards and it's technical awards that are announced at the very beginning of the show. Sinners doesn't walk away with anything else. ⁓ the entire night Ryan Coogler is not left to seat. That'd be heartbreaking. Like I like those Oscars would end and I would go, I'm happy for those people, ⁓ strong but I feel like the Oscars would end and I go something wrong happened here. ⁓ Like Something happened here that we're gonna be talking about still in 10 years. Here's the thing though, with Sinners, it's already record breaking. It doesn't even have to win an award. And it broke the record for most nominations. But would it be heartbreaking? It would. Because for me- That's tough to break that record and then not win a single one. For me, it would almost feel like they did it. You know when the actor wins the award for basically the career achievement award? Where it's like, they shouldn't have won the Oscar this year. should Should DiCaprio have won for the Revenant? No. they give it to him because he's been nominated a ton of times and he's lost every single time? Yes. Right. Would it be that kind of thing for you if Sinners got the most nominations and walked away with like two awards? It would suck. Yeah. Right. It would feel like, they nominated just to be like, ⁓ congratulations. You got the most awards ever. And then you won the same amount of Oscars as a movie that everybody's forgotten about. I know. I keep saying I think they can hit double digits, but at the very least you feel like 50 % is a safe bet, That went eight out of 16, right? I don't know. I just whispered it over here. I don't know. I really don't know. Really, because there's a lot of really strong acting performances. I think it does rough. You're going to text me like how you do. Oh, yeah. I think crying. I think if one battle and PTA didn't exist, I would feel much, much more confident. That's fair. This movie would clean up like no other. But I think one battle is going to sneak in and walk away with a bunch of awards. I really do. I think. I think there's an off chance it gets writing, directing, picture, supporting Well writing there in different categories, they? What? Yeah, yeah. One battle's Yeah, yeah, that's right, yeah. But I think. I think centers is a lock for original screenplay. I would, yeah, I would hope so. But yeah, I think different movies could sneak in and I think sentimental could steal some. I think One Battle could steal some. I'm just, I'm hoping that it's just respected in the way it deserves. You should come over and watch them with me. We'll take a shot every time Sinners wins and we'll either end up totally- We'll either end up face down on the floor or we'll be like, hey, you want to go get some tacos? I'll drive. we'll be sober. But way, tacos is appropriate. Yeah. ⁓ I'm to be really interested. We'll definitely do an Oscars recap. For sure. We'll talk about the Oscars and kind of what they got right, what they got wrong, and what we're enraged about. Yeah, but yeah sinners incredible film. Let us know what you guys think about sinners. How did it affect you? How did it impact you? What are your thoughts on it? would love to hear if you disagree with us completely and you hated the film Definitely tell us that we don't care ⁓ but tell us that we'd love to hear from you. It's okay to be wrong Yeah, it's it's totally fine to objectively be wrong. I Don't everything ever once I'm ⁓ apparently wrong. not to me. ⁓ I don't don't hate the film, but I just don't love it I don't think it should have won with everything I've won. yeah, with everything that we talked about guys, let us know your thoughts. Give us your scream seven thoughts. know, give us your thoughts on Paramount buying Warner Brothers. Give us your Rotten Tomatoes thoughts on Gladiator, Rage of the Lost Ark and Scream 4. You you know, make me feel good. Tell me that Thunderbolts was better than Superman and you know, Fantastic Four. Which movie are you most excited to see parodied in Scary Movie? which one am I most excited to see parodied? that's tough. Football question to end on. That's a really good one. ⁓ Hold on, let me think about this. You go first, because I feel like you're much more locked and loaded with this. I'm probably, obviously think Terrifier will be fun, but I'm probably going Weapons or Long Legs. I just feel like they could be really funny with both those movies. ⁓ I think Long Legs. Weapons could be good with the run. That just looks so good. Yeah, think terrifiers is going to be interesting, but maybe long legs because I like long legs. So I just feel like they're going to rip in a Nicholas cage. Yeah. ⁓ they're to tear apart. They're going to do something with singing. And yeah, yeah, yeah. It'll be fun. I'm I first heard about the movie, I was like, OK, you know, we'll just and I watched that trailer and I went, I mean, they're parodying sinners, Yeah. So yeah, they're pairing like everything. Yeah. It's going to be good. That's two years. It's going to be good. It's going to be good. Yeah, I'm excited for it.
