The year is 2083, and in this chapter we first meet seventeen-year-old Oliver Crane, resident of the Cradle, a utopian compound in the Pacific Northwest. Yet more than comfort he wants answers—answers to what has become of the outside world, a world ravaged by mutating pandemics and rising seas. That answer comes in the form of Nya, a teen raised in the coastal migrant camps, who has just arrived in the compound, sending Ollie on a mission: to meet and befriend the new girl.
