ABOUT THIS EPISODE
Lynse Schmidt: From Confusion to Clarity — Understanding Special Education, Dyslexia, IEPs & Your Child's Learning Needs
What happens when your child is struggling in school, the evaluations are confusing, the meetings feel overwhelming, and nobody seems able to explain the complete picture?
What if the answers parents desperately need are already there, but scattered across assessments, school reports, classroom observations, and conversations that never quite connect?
Universal Podcast Network welcomes Lynse Schmidt, founder of SPEDucation Support, former school psychologist, dyslexia specialist, Board Certified Advocate in Special Education, and creator of The Clarity Process™, for a compelling conversation about special education, learning differences, parental advocacy, and helping children receive appropriate educational support.
With more than 20 years of experience as a school psychologist, Lynse has participated in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, conducted educational evaluations, and worked with families and school professionals to better understand students' learning and developmental needs.
But her perspective extends beyond her professional career.
As a parent of children with dyslexia, Lynse understands the challenges families can experience when navigating complicated educational systems, interpreting assessment results, and advocating for appropriate support.
Her experience from both sides of the IEP meeting table inspired her to develop an approach centered on helping parents understand their children's educational needs and make informed decisions.
THE CLARITY PROCESS: CONNECTING THE PIECES OF YOUR CHILD'S EDUCATION
Through SPEDucation Support, Lynse created The Clarity Process™, a framework designed to help parents understand the connections between learning, attention, behavior, emotional well-being, and educational support.
Rather than viewing each challenge in isolation, her approach encourages families to examine how different aspects of a child's development and school experience may interact.
Her mission is simple but meaningful: Replace confusion with understanding and help parents become informed, confident advocates for their children.

FROM CONFUSION TO CONFIDENCE
For many parents, navigating special education can feel like learning an entirely new language.
Terms such as IEP, educational evaluation, eligibility, accommodation, intervention, and learning disability may become part of everyday conversations without always being clearly explained.
Lynse Schmidt's work emphasizes the importance of helping families understand not only what these terms mean, but also how educational decisions may affect their children's learning experiences.
Her professional and personal journey highlights the value of informed advocacy, respectful collaboration, and recognizing that each child has a unique combination of strengths and support needs.
A child's struggles should never be reduced to a single label or misunderstood as a lack of potential.
The goal is to understand the child, identify appropriate support, and create meaningful opportunities for learning and development.
Whether you're a parent, homeschooling family, teacher, special education professional, or caregiver supporting a child with learning differences, this conversation offers practical perspectives on navigating educational challenges with greater confidence.
Because every child deserves to be understood, and every parent deserves access to clear, accurate information about their child's education.
