ABOUT THIS EPISODE
What happens when questioning the accepted narrative costs you your career, relationships, sense of belonging—and eventually forces you to question almost everything?
In this episode of The 8th Element Podcast, Buzz and Gargs sit down with Danishta, a second-generation Hare Krishna devotee whose lifelong willingness to ask uncomfortable questions took on new meaning during the COVID era.
Danishta shares how growing up visibly different taught him early what it felt like to stand outside the crowd. Years later, that same independent streak collided with institutional authority when his decision surrounding COVID vaccination ultimately disrupted his physical-therapy education and changed the direction of his life. But this conversation goes much deeper than COVID.
The discussion explores groupthink, media and institutional trust, spiritual authority, conspiracy labels, the difference between skepticism and discernment, and a surprisingly difficult question:
If you're willing to question everything, when do you finally stop questioning? The conversation eventually turns inward toward Krishna consciousness, Guru–Shastra–Sadhu, Danishta's search for absolute truth, Prabhupada's teachings, controversial changes to Prabhupada's books, and the challenge of preserving spiritual teachings across generations.
Underneath all the controversial subjects is a deeply human conversation about faith, identity, belonging and the courage to examine what you believe—even when doing so comes with a price.
