Why Your Spring Training Stats Might Be Misleading Your Baseball Team’s Future

Season 3 Episode 2 of The Shawn Mackey Show dives into a wide range of Chicago sports topics as spring training heats up and the NFL offseason continues to shake things up.

I start the episode talking about some behind-the-scenes challenges of running a solo podcast and why authenticity matters in a world filled with staged content and AI-generated headlines. Then I break down what I’m seeing so far in spring training with the Chicago Cubs, including early pitching concerns for Jameson Taillon and Shota Imanaga and strong performances from players competing for roster spots.

I also discuss the competition in the Cubs outfield featuring Dylan Carlson, Michael Conforto, and Chas McCormick as Opening Day approaches. Prospect Matt Shaw is making a strong case to stay on the roster, and I share my thoughts on where he might fit this season.

The conversation then shifts to the Chicago Bears and their busy offseason. I talk about the surprise retirement of center Drew Dalman, the trade for Garrett Bradbury, and the signing of linebacker Devin Bush. I also dive into whether the Bears are truly building a long-term contender or simply reshuffling the roster.

Plus, I discuss the risks of the World Baseball Classic, highlight local baseball talent Sam Antonacci, and share my honest thoughts on where Chicago sports are heading.

If you enjoy real, unscripted Chicago sports talk, this episode is for you.
