You may be wonder how you can determine if your seemingly random thought is a prompting from the Holy Spirit or just your overactive imagination. There’s no way you can be absolutely sure, but there are some clues that will help you decide. First, I ask yourself if that is the kind of thing Jesus would do? Another way of asking that question is to ask if your random thought agrees with Scripture. If it lines up with Scripture, then ask yourself if that is the kind of thought you usually have. If it is not the kind of thought you normally have there’s a good chance the Holy Spirit is prompting you. Bottom line: you will have to step out in faith.
Have I ever been wrong? Occasionally, but more often than not my obedience has allowed the Lord to minister to individuals in special ways.

Lord Jesus, make us sensitive to the prompting of the Holy Spirit. Give us the faith to act even when we are not absolutely sure if it is the prompting of the Holy Spirit or our overactive imagination. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
