O TYM ODCINKU
Transition can be scary. Transgender people face fear of rejection, fear of loneliness, fear of poverty. They fear for their safety. In this episode, we answer a listener question from Sabene who asks "How do you combat and overcome that fear? I am really struggling with that right now. I mean, it's almost pathological. And so I'd love to get your points of view and your experiences. I have to get over this hurdle... and I don't know if I ever will."
Some songs that deal honestly with mental illness (not that transgender people are mentally ill) and fear, and might prove inspirational, include Better Son/Daughter by Rilo Kiley, Bravado by Lorde (again with the Lorde), and Silk by Wolf Alice.
Also check out Faith's review of Boy Meets Girl featuring the wonderful trans actress Michelle Hendley.
And if you're in the greater New York area, why not stop by the Alley Pond Adventure Course where you can learn to overcome your fear by jumping off a 40-foot telephone pole. You'll survive. Faith did. (Kath chickened out.) Have faith.
