O TYM ODCINKU
Empathy has long been misunderstood in leadership.
In many executive circles it is still labeled as soft, optional, or secondary to performance. But the data tells a very different story.
In this episode of The Game Changer with Dr. Sharalyn Payne, Dr. Payne sits down with Melissa Robinson-Winemiller, author and emotional intelligence advocate, to explore why empathy is not a personality trait for leaders. It is a strategic capability.
Melissa shares the pivotal moment in her career when she experienced unempathic leadership firsthand and how that experience reshaped her professional path. What began as a difficult leadership encounter became the foundation for her work helping organizations build emotionally intelligent leaders who drive both human and business results.
Together, they explore the practical side of emotional intelligence in leadership. Not theory. Not slogans. Real leadership decisions where empathy and accountability must coexist.
This conversation also tackles the tension many leaders face today. Organizations are navigating burnout, remote teams, generational expectations, and rising workplace pressure. In this environment, leaders who ignore emotional intelligence risk losing trust, engagement, and ultimately performance.
Empathy is not about lowering standards. It is about understanding people well enough to help them meet them.
