O TYM ODCINKU
Three earnings calls. Three raised outlooks. One message: demand is accelerating. 📈
This week the three biggest travel platforms all reported Q2 — and it was a very good week to be in short-term rentals:
🏠 Airbnb (Wed): record $3.6B revenue (+17%), nights booked +10% and accelerating, GBV $27.2B (+16%), full-year outlook raised. UK and France origin nights accelerated — Europe's feeder markets are firing.
🌍 Booking Holdings (Tue): room nights +5%, with Europe recovering fastest — domestic nights up high single digits. Alternative accommodation grew 4% and now makes up ~37% of Booking.com room nights. CEO Glenn Fogel: "I'd like that to be a lot higher."
✈️ Expedia (Wed): gross bookings +12% to $33.9B, and another raised outlook.
The operator take:
1️⃣ The H2 demand backdrop is confirmed — by the three companies with the best forward-booking data in travel. Hold your rates.
2️⃣ The strength is domestic and European — exactly where most of us operate.
3️⃣ Run the maths: Airbnb kept roughly 13 cents of every booking dollar last quarter. A record summer of OTA guests is next year's direct-booking database. Capture the email at check-in, not the discount at checkout.
Strong demand is when you build your direct channel. Weak demand is when you wish you had.
How's your August pacing against last year?
