O TYM ODCINKU
Grant and Mekaylay are back with a sprawling episode that somehow connects Rascal Flatts Halloween costumes to the meaning of life. The duo debates the hierarchy of light beers (Miller Lite vs. Coors Banquet vs. Dos Equis), discovers that Harley has never had blood drawn, and Grant shares a traumatic childhood story about a Ciprodex allergy that turned his ear into a golf ball at Boys & Girls Club. Mekaylay reveals his own baby-era allergy to Augmentin before open-heart surgery — which Grant helpfully compares to a chemical from The Boys.
Grant pours an Emil Beyer Grand Cru Riesling from Alsace, France and gives full sommelier tasting notes (petrol, peach, gooseberry, limestone) while Mekaylay gives a beautiful break down of his Hawaiian Shaved Ice energy drink. The two then build increasingly unhinged "death row breakfast" orders — Grant's involves a bacon egg and cheese on a sesame bagel, three pancakes, home-style potatoes, and a side omelet — before spiraling into nostalgia over Toaster Scrambles, Jimmy Dean pancake-wrapped sausages, and the McDonald's Big Mac Bundle Box.
The conversation shifts to what they do to unwind: Grant drums to Tool and Sleep Token, sings full-throated in his car for two hours a day, plays Black Myth: Wukong, and rewatches the entire Harry Potter series every winter. Mekaylay recommends the Red Rising series by Pierce Brown and makes the case for Nintendo Switch immersion as therapy. A Wii Sports session leads Grant to the realization that he can look like 500 different archetypes of white dude — a claim backed up by comparisons to Adam Driver, Chris Evans, young Nic Cage, and "white Childish Gambino."
Things get real when the conversation turns to stress, mental health, and what it means to "lock in." Mekaylay and Harley describe a life of constant readiness shaped by family health crises and adult responsibilities, while Grant opens up about his own anxiety spiral, reading Taoism, and trying to move his emotional baseline from negative to neutral. The episode closes with potential new podcast taglines, a Patreon book club idea, a plea for listener scary stories, and the email: sobernotsober69@gmail.com.
