Sheena: Hey everybody, we're back.
Sarah: Yay, yay.
Sheena: Had a rough couple of weeks, so we are we are finally here. We are finally ready to. Be alive. Because definitely last weekend, I I would have been just flat out on my back. And all you would have seen is this thumbs up.
Sarah: Really? I think it would probably do a thumbs down for you, at least that first week. Nineteen thousand steps. my god.
Sheena: Almost 20,000 steps, yep. And that includes 85 times of going up the stairs.
Sarah: Well you said this is you're on the lower level. for those of you who didn't know, Sheena moved two weeks two weeks ago. Two weeks ago. and yeah, so you know, it's it's you know didn't have a whole lot of help. You you did it pr you did it on your own. That's insane. I I I give you
Sheena: A week ago.
Sarah: It's that sounds just exhausting to think about it. I give you kudos. I I give you more than kudos. I give you props. I I I don't know how you did that. I'm I would have just said I quit and just collapsed on the floor and yeah, they would have had to drag me out. I
Sheena: Trauma response. You Well, when you hyper-focus, nothing gets in your way.
Sarah: I remember we moved here when Ari was born twelve years ago. And I remember the horror of that then. Of course I was moving four people. And you know, that's a little more probably than you know what you have. But it was horrific. And I said I never wanna have to do this again. So, I mean, come hell in high water. I was like, I would I will have to I will sell a kid if I have to, I'm never moving again.
Sheena: You
Sarah: I will do what we have to do to stay in this house. I can't do this. Just the idea of packing god. Everything that we have. Even the idea now is just I I think I just I would. I would burn the place down and it's like a start over. Starting over.
Sheena: Yeah. You just like burn it. Just burn it off. Yeah, well the good thing is though is that this new place it's It's all single levels, so I don't I mean I have like a step into my apartment So that's all I have to do so that's that's a lot better for me and my hip anyways so So yeah, it's.
Sarah: Well, I mean yeah, I mean like I said, I'm I'm grateful that you were able to at least get some help with the heavier things in the washer and dryer, you know, like a truck. But I'm really sorry that that was hopefully knock on wood. I'm knocking on my desk. you know, you you know this is the last time for a while.
Sheena: Yeah, if not then somebody else is going to do it. I'm too old for this shit.
Sarah: Wait, exactly. I mean 'cause you you just moved to Oregon a couple of months ago. So, you know, no one should have to move multiple times in a year. In in six months. In three months. Six months. But no, I'm I'm glad you you recovered. You look good. I love the beautiful window behind you. That looks really nice.
Sheena: I know I've got this whole season one RuPaul's softening filter going on from the background. So yay. If only I had eyelashes and eyebrows.
Sarah: I like it. And then your hair too. You know, you kinda look like your hair I mean, I can't see I can't see the color, but you kinda look like Dana Gracie. Like that white that white blonde hair that she remember that white that beautiful white blonde hair that she had? I found her on Facebook. I think I added her as a friend. I don't think she
Sheena: Ha ha! Yeah. Yes. yeah. Well, hi, Dana, Gracie or whatever your last name might be now. Yeah, well, now that I'm back on the gluteids, my hair has gotten really gluteids. I'm not doing semi-gluteid. I'm doing lyrical gluteid, so it's every day. Because my A1C and everything has been out of control. So that's why I'm on it.
Sarah: There were.
Sheena: And now my hair is thinning So I'm like great so I I got a call out to everybody anybody who's got anything that's like great for hair growth or You know or like any supplement to take for hair growth. Let me know because yeah, I'm like I My hair used to be a lot thicker as in there was more of it. No, because I have baby fine hair. My hair has always been very baby fine. So, but now there's just not as much.
Sarah: Yeah, I mean I'm still my hair's still like thick. But I feel like I don't have as much poof. Like I always it was always like straight. Like it was always, you know, like I never had like body. I had to always like create my own body or pay for it. But I always feel I felt like I my hair was a lot more like
Sheena: Mm-hmm. Volumed.
Sarah: Like I could like Yeah, like have a little more volume to it. You know, like when I did like this, it actually like you know, stayed up and now it's kinda
Sheena: Mm-hmm. Right? I know. And then also, like on top of it, like when I started going through the change, you know, when I started the peri, like my hair got really super oily. And so now I have to use tea tree oil or else my scalp will break out as well. So. I'm just telling you all, anybody who's going to be going into PERI, which can be as soon as your 30s, just watch. Talk to your doctors and if they tell you that you're not, that you know, it's not, it's too soon, it's not too soon. I mean, I know somebody who was 25 and went through menopause and had a baby a year earlier. So. So if you're feeling off, if your body starts changing, talk to your doctor and ask your doctor and make sure that they listen to you. And if they don't, tell them to write it down in your file that they are not going to do what you've asked.
Sarah: Find a new doctor. Find a new doctor. I mean because honestly, you need a doctor who's going to hear what you have to say. You know? I mean you you need a doctor who's gonna listen to you and that you have a good working relationship with because if you don't that's not gonna work. That's not gonna work. You know.
Sheena: Mm hmm. Yes. Right, right, not to mention also I found another chin hair.
Sarah: Yeah. I have a have an I have a friend a girlfriend who has she gets some chin hair and then I have another girlfriend who has like some dark hairs on her face. I actually have a couple girlfriends. I know one like she nears her face, the other one kinda like she has to kinda like shave and so hormones Hormones. I mean I I'm
Sheena: I don't like it. Yes.
Sarah: Once again, another knock on wood. My gr like my grandma used to get like randomly, just like once in a while. And I've found like one or two throughout my entire life. Not saying now, but throughout my entire life. I know if one was it was so funny. Like one was like so long and I was like, what the hell?
Sheena: You
Sarah: I'm like, how long was this here? Like what you know? And thankfully I was, you know, blocked it. but I was like, What is this? Like And I I I I haven't found any in the last few years, which makes me happy. And I'm hoping that, you know
Sheena: Well that's alright. I've had a nipple hair on each one. Dark and long. And I pluck that sucker every time I go take a shower. I'm like check check check check. And yes I know that's probably TMI.
Sarah: And and they're always and they're always nice and dark. Yeah, always always nice and dark. That way they kinda just pop out there, you know, and just stand out so that way everyone can see. Which is like, Yay! So, you know. But
Sheena: Mm. She'll listen to womanhood.
Sarah: holy smokes. I just realized I don't think we introduced ourselves.
Sheena: No. So welcome to So Random and Weird podcast. And I'm the host today. I'm Sheena. Yeah.
Sarah: Yeah. Yeah. A little late. Better late than ever. I'm Sarah. Better late than never. I was like, holy smokes. I don't think we No, I mean hopefully though, you know, by now, you know, a folks have us. Yeah. Yeah. Had to exactly had to, you know, getting back into the swing of things after being out and I don't know. Just getting catching up and
Sheena: We haven't seen each other in a while. So this is what y'all get. Yeah, and so I. I had a free space for my thingy, my episode today. I love And That's Why We Drink. It's one of my favorite shows that I listen to. And of course, they bring up a lot about astrology. because the two co, the two hosts are both gemini's as well like you Sarah. And then there's the Scorpio. Yeah, well, I mean, I do have a constant stigma for being a Scorpio, but... But the thing is, kind of, I am a Scorpio, so I was raised by a Scorpio. I have a lot of Scorpios in my bloodline, so...
Sarah: You know what's funny? Arya and I are both Geminis. Tyrion and Mike are both Libras. And they're both
Sheena: Hmm. Well, me and my dad are Scorpios. And then my mom's mom, so my maternal grandmother, was a Scorpio. And then my mom's grandmother, which was my grandfather's mother, was a Scorpio as well.
Sarah: So it is definitely yeah. It's definitely a family thing.
Sheena: So. Yep. But none of my kids are Scorpios. I've got the Cancer. Yep. Let's see. Twinkle's is a Cancer. And Rhiannon is a Pisces. And what is the 1st of April?
Sarah: Well, I know Forest is the seventeenth 'cause my mom is a is a bull and she's April seventeenth. So I don't know.
Sheena: Not Taurus. Right. Yeah. Well, May, my friend Jess is a, is a Taurus. And so, and she's May 5th. So, is he an Aries? Aries? that right? I don't know. Anybody can correct me. But, so I decided that I'm actually going to go over what your big three, your sun, your moon, and your rising actually mean.
Sarah: Okay. Great.
Sheena: And so I thought that was really fun because everybody's like, my gosh, you're Scorpio. And I'm like, well, yeah, but there's also other things about me as well. So it's not just like Scorpio is just like.
Sarah: That's what people Yeah, that's what people don't understand. Excuse me, is that there is kind of a mixture because it all and I'm sorry, you'll probably explain this and but it's not just you you don't have just one sign. So I'm sorry, you'll you'll explain that. Go ahead, I'm sorry.
Sheena: Yes. It's all right. And also, you know, because I always believe in summer ween. And so we're doing a little bit of astrology talk today. So. And so what I'm going to do is I'm going to break down each of the big three and what they mean. And I'm going to use myself and Sarah as examples the whole way through because this makes it a little bit more personal. And it's something that we can chit chat about as well. So quick disclaimer, though, I am by no means a professional. But, you know, of course, as being neurodivergent, I have about 700 different hobbies. So this is something that I've always read a lot about and looked at my chart and my ex's chart. And like my dad was really super into astrology and all of that stuff too.
Sarah: I had no idea. It's really cool. I really he was so tough. I just can't I don't see him being industrial. I I just I see like he was so like tough. Like a biker. Like I I
Sheena: yeah, my dad was really into the whole Scorpio thing. Yes. Yeah, but hey, his tattoo that he had on his arm was a scorpion.
Sarah: Mm-hmm. Okay. Well I mean I just yeah, but I I thought it was just because he was like, you know, tough, you know. I was military Marine, he was he was a Marine, right? Yeah. I I was just I'm like, I don't know. okay. I I I'm yeah
Sheena: His birthday was November 7th. Yeah, but his birthday his birthday was November 7th, which is two days before mine.
Sarah: It just goes to show awesome. It just goes to show. I mean, like, you know, astrology and you know, it can be for anybody and it's not Yeah. I'm I'm judgy. Okay, no, okay, I'll stop judgy. I'll stop being judgy.
Sheena: Yeah, it's all right. It's all good. Nobody expects it out of nobody would have expected it out of my dad and then all of a sudden he's coming up to me and talking about Lemurians and Palladiums and I'm like,
Sarah: I bet yeah. I
Sheena: and Zoë Astrid.
Sarah: my gosh. Okay. Wow, wow, awesome. Yeah.
Sheena: Yeah. So before we get into the sun, moon, and rising individually, I want to talk about why astrology is so much bigger than just the one sign that most people know. When somebody asks you, what's your sign, they're almost always asking about your sun sign, which is the placement based on where the sun was positioned in the sky on your birthday. That's the sign in the horoscope column of your local newspaper, if newspapers still had those. That was one of my favorite things in the newspaper, was reading those way back when, before we had these thingamabobs, these little doodad machines.
Sarah: yeah, so old fashioned things called newspapers, so they're actually were delivered to your home or that you had to like buy, you know, and bring home. It wasn't just like on your phone or
Sheena: Right? Or, you know, in the Seventeen magazines as well.
Sarah: Yep. Cosmo and teen, seventeen, and well.
Sheena: But here's the thing your birth chart or your natal chart is actually a full snapshot of the entire sky at the exact moment that you were born Every planet Mercury Venus Mars Jupiter Saturn Uranus Neptune Pluto was sitting and yes Pluto is a planet Always will be a planet. I don't care how many times you take it away
Sarah: Thank you. Yes. Yes. Neil deGrasse Tyson. I I argue with you over that. Yes. Yes.
Sheena: And so every one of those was sitting in a specific zodiac sign and a specific house at that moment. That's 10 planetary placements plus your rising sign plus 12 housings. Those planets fall into plus the angles and the aspects and those planets to make each other. And then that gets into more lots of math. And then my brain goes, yeah. So we're not doing that.
Sarah: Mm.
Sheena: So when people just ask you about your sun sign, they're just asking you about one thing about yourself. And it's basically like, where did you go to high school at? Is basically what they're asking you.
Sarah: Yeah, the equivalent. They're not getting that full rounded picture, that well rounded picture.
Sheena: Exactly. And so, of course, like I said, it's going to be the big three that we're going to talk about today. But it's not going to tell you everything, but it's going to tell you a lot of things. And so real quick, to calculate any of this accurately, you will need three pieces of information. You're going to need your birth date, your birth time and your birth location. The date gives you your sun sign. The time and date together give you your moon sign, and then the time and location together give you your rising sign, which is the most sensitive of the three to get right, because you can shift every couple of hours. If you don't know your exact birth time, go call your mom, or if your mom doesn't know, like mine, check your birth certificate. And if... No. Nope. And the funny thing is too is my official birth certificate says a different time than the hospital certificate. So it's kind of funny that I have like two different times, four minutes difference, but two different times. But my official certificate says 1245. And the other one says 1249. So I just go by the official certificate, which is 1245. So let's start with the one that everybody thinks they know, the sun sign. Like I said, it's determined where your sun was positioned relative to the 12 zodiac constellations on the day that you were born. Because the sun's apparent path is so regular, this is the easiest placement to calculate. You basically just need your birthday. That's why it's the one on every horoscope column, every meme, every which sign are you quiz. But what does actually mean? The Sun represents your core identity, your ego, the psychological sense of not like ego like arrogance but like ego as in the conscious eye that you build your sense of self around. It's your vitality, your life force, the central character of your own story. In a lot of astrological traditions the Sun represents your father or father figure too. and the general shape of how you experience authority and identify and excuse me as you experience authority and identity as you grow. Your sun sign is also in a weird way a lifelong project. lot of astrologers will tell you that you don't fully integrate your sun sign until later in life. Some people point specifically to your Saturn return, which happens around the age of 28 to 30 when Saturn completes its first full orbit back to where it was when you were born. But that's a whole separate episode and I listened to two girls, one girl or two girls one ghost episode about the Saturn return and it's wild. So that we'll save that for another day. So for now let's talk about the 12 sun signs a little bit more structurally and then we'll get into me and Sarah specifically. So every sign belongs to one of the four elements, fire, earth, air, or water, and one of these three modalities, cardinal, fixed, or mutable. Fire signs are Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius. These are your action-oriented, passionate, initiating signs. Earth signs are Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn, grounded particularly in sensory and practicality, very grounded. Air signs are Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius, the intellectual, social, and idea-driven. And water signs are Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces. Emotional, intuitive, deeply feeling. Then the modalities like the cardinal signs Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn are initiators. They start things. Fixed signs like Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius are sustainers. They dig in and hold steady. Mutable signs Gemini, Virgo, Satyatarius, Pisces are the adapters. They're the flexible, changeable, go with the flow ones. Every sign is a combination of one element and one modality. Understanding those two building blocks will genuinely take you further in reading any chart than memorizing the 12 keyword lists everywhere. So, Sarah's son is a Gemini, which makes her a mutable air sign. Gemini is ruled by Mercury, the planet of communication, thought, and information exchange. Mutable air is quite literally the most adaptable quick shifting energy in the whole zodiac Gemini takes in information from every direction and processes it fast Gemini suns are naturally curious They're the sign most associated with duality the twins which shows up as an ability to hold two seemingly contradictory contradictory ideas or interests at once Geminis are often accused of being scattered, but I'd push back on that a little. It's less scattered and more operating on multiple channels simultaneously, which if you've ever watched Sarah juggle for creative projects and still remember a fact you read three weeks ago, tracks completely.
Sarah: My my mom might yeah. My my mom was actually thinking like she never knew like I was organized. She always thought I was like scattered. And then when she found out like all the lists I make and things like that, she's like Wow She's like you you she's like, Really? What? I mean she like so so I'm like, Yeah mom, I'm not it's not yeah.
Sheena: And Jim and I sons also tend to build their identity around being knowledgeable, being quick witted, being socially adaptable. They can talk to anyone about anything, which I wish I had my dad's birth certificate and would totally do because my dad would talk to anybody and everybody. Because I wonder where his chatterbox sign is. The shadow side, if we're being honest, there is a tendency to intellectualize feelings instead of sitting with them and a roughness that can look like commitment issues, but really it's just a nervous system that creates stimulation. Yeah.
Sarah: Agree with that.
Sheena: So for me, I'm a Scorpio. Dun dun dun. So Scorpio is a fixed water sign ruled traditionally by Mars and in modern astrology co-ruled by Pluto. Fixed water is an intense combination. Water signs feel everything and fixed signs don't let it go easily. So I am not Elsa. I do not let it go.
Sarah: Mm.
Sheena: I don't. So you get an emotional depth that doesn't just pass through you. It settles in and transforms into something else entirely. Scorpio is the sign most associated with death, rebirth, and transformation via cult, sex, power, and anything hidden beneath the surface. It's not a coincidence that most of the astrology nerds that I know were obsessed with true crime, folk magic, and unexplained and the unexplained. have a heavy Scorpio placement somewhere in their chart. Scorpio suns build identity around intensity and depth. We don't really do surface level. If I'm going to be interested in something, I am going to be obsessed. If I love someone, I love them completely. And if someone crosses me, I remember it in exquisite detail for an unreasonably long time, AKA forever. Scorpios have a reputation for being intense, secretive, even a little scary. And I'll own it. That reputation is not entirely undeserved, but what people miss is the loyalty underneath of it. Scorpio energy protects what it loves fiercely, sometimes to a fault. Which, yeah, I mean, considering my dating life, yes. And the shadow side of Scorpio Sun is a tendency towards control, jealousy, or using emotional intensity as a weapon rather than a bridge. So the growth path is learning that vulnerability, actually letting people see you, not just strategically revealing pieces of yourself is where the real power is. So, I don't know, what do you think, Sarah?
Sarah: Yeah, I mean I it's it's fascinating. I really Like I I you know, I I never really did a whole lot of research when it came to like my other signs. Like I I got the the the charts, and I got them for me and my kids too. because I wanted to kind of know my kids. but I I mean I've some people think astrology is hopey and it's like, you know what? It just when I read about Geminis, I just think, This is me. Like This is I I so can relate you know, and and yes, we all have maybe a little bit of of other, you know other, you know, signs in us, you know, which which matter too. and and that's why we kind of can relate to maybe like other things, you know, we can relate to like other other signs. But when I read about Geminis and and when you were reading I was like, Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean it's I I fed it feels like you're re you're reading about me, you know. It's
Sheena: Mm-hmm. Yeah, no, and I totally get that too with me being a Scorpio. You know, I mean, there are things that I don't do intentionally. And then it's like, yeah, but that's normal for you because of that, your star alignment.
Sarah: Yeah. And you know, like you know, and and how, you know, I can intellectualize love and and rel you know, feelings and and you know, and someone who is more emotional, who is more empathetic, who is more Who who who feels things deep and not that I don't feel things deeply. but it's it's up in here for me. A lot of it's up in here for me. And
Sheena: Mm-hmm.
Sarah: You know, and and I can maybe seem cold or callous or or unfeeling, when someone who is truly, you know, empathetic and and and soulful is hurting. you know, and that's not the case. but it just makes the communication aspect then more important for me to like verbalize how I feel or or or, you know, my feelings to that, you know, towards that. person instead of keeping it up here, you know. but yeah, it's astrology is really cool. Can you can you go over the my is it the the morning sign, the sign that's more is the it's one that's more important you said?
Sheena: You mean that you're ruled by Mercury, the communication thought and information exchange, your immutable air, which is adaptable, quick shifting energy, and you're naturally curious and...
Sarah: Yeah, yeah. I
Sheena: Which is perfect for me bringing this up to you because you get to be curious. I get to be investigative.
Sarah: I once again yeah, 'cause I'm asking questions. I ask so many questions. I remember when I was when I was dating, you know, before Mike when I was dating, just I fell I felt like I would play twenty questions with with, you know, just 'cause I you know, like what's your favorite movies, what's your favorite songs, what's your you know, and I I I still do that with like getting to know people. how much what do you like? What do you and I you know, and I s I I remember some people used to, you know, at least early on, get, you know, frustrated, when I was younger with all the questions. But I'm curious, you know, it it it is I I I do have an insatiable curiosity. Yeah, like I love like little tr you know, bits of trivia like with movies and stuff and shows and I'll be like I'll be watching something with somebody and I'll like, did you know that this person was actually doing this during this scene or that you know and and 'cause I love knowledge.
Sheena: Well, we're going to move now to your moon sign. which really and truly my favorite thing is the moon. So as in I have two moon tattoos.
Sarah: No, this is where the moon was when I was born, right? Positioned in the sky.
Sheena: Hmm? Yeah, so if the sun is who you consciously are, the moon is who you are when nobody's watching. It's your emotional operating system, your instinctive reactions, what makes you feel safe, what makes you feel unsettled, how you process grief, how you self-sue, what you need from the people closest to you in order to feel nurtured. Maybe.
Sarah: okay.
Sheena: Maybe maybe you should leave some notes of being like, I feel nurtured.
Sarah: I was gonna say. Huh. So this is this is who we who we are, but don't show the world. Okay. All right.
Sheena: Mm-hmm. Yes. So the moon moves through the zodiac far faster than the sun. It shifts into a new sign roughly every two and a half days. That's why you can't calculate your moon sign from your birthday alone. You need your birth time too. Because if you were born early in the morning versus late at night in the same day, you could have an entirely different moon sign than someone born just hours apart from you. So yeah, well, I used to think that I was born at 12.15 PM, but it turns out I was born at 12.45 PM. And that changed.
Sarah: That's crazy. That's a different sign. That's a different sign? Seriously? Wow. Wow. Okay. Okay. So that does that make more sense now that you that you were able to read up on okay. Wow. Okay. I can't wait to hear it. Okay, go ahead.
Sheena: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. So, mm-hmm. So in. Yeah. Yeah. So in traditional astrology, the moon is associated with the mother or maternal figure, with home, with the past, with the parts of yourself that formed before you had language for them. It's often described as the most unconscious part of the chart, the patterns that you run on autopilot. Sarah's moon is in Taurus, which is a fixed earth sign, Taurus.
Sarah: What? Taurus.
Sheena: Mm-hmm.
Sarah: Mm-hmm.
Sheena: So a fixed
Sarah: Hmm. I feel like I'm being exposed here. Hmm.
Sheena: A fix. So, which is a fixed earth sign ruled by Venus. Fixed earth is about as stable as a zodiac, yes. Taurus moons process emotions through the physical world, through touch, taste, comfort, beauty, routine. And then when a Taurus moon is stressed, the instinct isn't to talk it out or analyze it, it's to feel better physically first. A good meal, a soft blanket, familiar sounding surroundings. and let the emotional processing catch up after the body settles. Which this is an interesting contrast to your son.
Sarah: So So that means like if I'm in a fight with somebody, I need to feel good first before I can work it through. Because that's so me. Holy crap. Because while I am very verbal, if I am like at this point and I'm just I I can't
Sheena: Mm-hmm.
Sarah: I need to step back and like get to a better place mentally and emotionally before I can talk things out. So is that the is that Taurus? Is that the Taurus in me? my God. I that that makes so much because I I wondered like why like you know, I yeah, like when I when I get into a fight, you know, and and I'm arguing Yeah.
Sheena: Mm hmm. Yep.
Sarah: Wow. That makes I actually
Sheena: Yeah, so and it's also the contrast between your sun as well, which, know, the sun, the moon reflects your sun. And so, yeah, so your son wants that stimulation and novelty and constant new information, but your moon is over here going, actually, I just want my same coffee order and my same cozy chair. And I do want I don't want anything to change today. Thanks. That tension between.
Sarah: No, I I have I have I have an old man life. I I I have routine. I like spo especially on the weekends. But I mean, even during the week 'cause I work here from home, I have a routine. And I feel like one of the one of those little old guys, one of those little old men, you know, they get up, they can make their coffee and they read the paper and they do this and they do that. And I can't they can't vary from that routine. I have that. I have that. And it makes me happy. It makes me happy. Holy smokes, okay.
Sheena: So with this, with you having the mutable air sign for your sun and the fixed earth as well, directions within the same, the fixed earth moon is honestly a really great example of how your big three can pull in genuinely different directions with the same person. Taurus moons are known for being steady, loyal, a little stubborn emotionally once they decide how they feel about something. That feeling tends to stick around for better or for worse. They don't like being rushed through a feeling. They really don't like sudden disruption in their sense of security. Give a Taurus moon time.
Sarah: Yeah, I'm sorry. Yeah. Yeah.
Sheena: Give a tourist noon time, comfort and consistency and they'll come back to center every single time.
Sarah: Yeah. I I that's probably why I don't like drama. I can't stand
Sheena: I'll watch it.
Sarah: I was just talking to a friend of mine. I can't stand drama. I can't. I can't like talk it through with me. You know, I but I mean I don't need you know, the you know, trying to guess what somebody's, you know, feeling or trying to guess what someone wants or trying to g I mean, you know, I you know, I I don't want just tell me and we can talk and, you know, I just that way I can just Yeah. So that that exp that that's that's my Taurus. Not wanting the drama, wanting the just the Steady road. No bumps in the road. Just the same consistent. Okay. Smooth path.
Sheena: Well, and the funny thing is, like, you know, I know how much of I am outside, but like, how much do you see of me in this as well? You know, I mean. So my moon is a Capricorn. So no surprise. Capricorn is a cardinal or sign ruled by Saturn. This is genuinely one of the funnier placements in my own chart because Capricorn is one of the most emotionally restrained self-disciplined signs there is. And I've got it sitting underneath the Scorpio sun that feels everything at maximum volume. So functionally, what that means is I experience the emotion enormously, intensely, Scorpio style, and then my Capricorn moon immediately steps in like a very stern project manager and goes, okay, but what are we doing about this? What is the next action item? Capricorn moons process feelings through productivity and structure. We don't fall apart in front of people easily. Capricorn moon is one of the more emotionally guarded placements because there is a deep-seated instinct that you have to be strong, capable, and self-sufficient. As I just moved an apartment all by myself.
Sarah: Mm-hmm.
Sheena: And so yes, definitely self-sufficient, often because of something in childhood that taught you emotional needs were an inconvenience to other people. So we internalize a lot and we externalize it as competence.
Sarah: Mm-hmm. God, that's Y O U. Holy smokes. Jeez, that's scary. It is it is it is so but I mean, you know, it's so scary, like how how true these ring. Like just wow.
Sheena: Hahaha Ouch. Yeah.
Sarah: Love your face. You're just like Yeah, it's like
Sheena: Excuse me, I need to go mill underneath. So yeah. The growth edge for Capricorn Moon is learning that needing comfort isn't a weakness and that you're allowed to feel something without immediately monetizing it into productivity systems. That's why I go to therapy. So we're gonna move right along on to the next part, which is your rising sign. And I think I read this correctly is that, which is.
Sarah: Okay. And now this is the most sensitive, the most important one, right? Like this is the the like the most like
Sheena: Well, what it is, it's your rising sign or the ascendant is the other name for it. And the rising sign is the zodiac sign that was ascending over the eastern horizon at the exact moment and location of your birth. Because of the sky rotates, this shifts roughly every two hours, which means even people born in same exact day, the same exact place, just a few hours apart and have completely different rising. This is also why twins, even ones born minutes apart, can sometimes end up with different rising signs if they straddle that two-hour window.
Sarah: So weird. That's awesome. Okay.
Sheena: The rising sign governs your outward presentation, your first impression, your mannerisms, sometimes even your physical demeanor. Astrologers often describe this like this is your they explain it like this. Your sun is your soul. Your moon is your heart and your rising is your face.
Sarah: No. god. Okay.
Sheena: This is fun because I know what mine is and my face shows everything. So this is your mask, your packaging, the version of you the world meets before they get access to the deeper layers. The rising sign also determines your entire house system. It sets the wheel for where every other planet in your chart falls into the 12 houses. Excuse me.
Sarah: Okay.
Sheena: which converts everything from career to relationships to home life. So functionally, your rising sign isn't just your vibe, it's the literal structural key to your whole chart. So get the rising sign wrong and every house plane in your reading is wrong too, which is exactly why birth times accuracy matters. So when I read yours, your thing that you gave me. said that your rising is a Taurus as well. So, which is the same sign as your moon. Alright, and so you are a double Taurus situation happening, your moon and rising both grounded in that fixed earth energy. Taurus rising people tend to come across as calm, warm, unhurried. There's often a physical groundedness to them, a steadiness in how they carry themselves. People tend to feel instinctively safe and comfortable around Taurus rising because there's nothing chaotic radiating off of them. They can also seem a little slow to warm up to new people or situations, not out of coldness, but because Taurus energy is generally prefers to move in its own pace, doesn't love to be rushed. So with the moon and rising both in Taurus, you are unusually consistent through line between your inner emotional world and your outer presentation. What you see largely is what you get emotionally speaking.
Sarah: Yeah.
Sheena: The Gemini sun underneath is the wild card that keeps things interesting.
Sarah: Yes. And and honestly, that I always okay. Going back to my old school parent roots, they used to I used to watch Nick and Knight when I was a kid 'cause they were old school my parents and well, yeah, my parents were old school and I and and I mean I loved like the old TV shows 'cause my parents love the old TV shows and so I always used to like say I'm the Alex Rieger of my friends because Alex Reger was a character the main character in Taxi, T V show Taxi, and everyone went to Alex for their issues, their problems there and I felt like I was the Alex Rieger of my
Sheena: Thank Who did it?
Sarah: friends because everyone would come to me and even even like I I felt like even people who didn't really know me like would like like ask me like like give like tell me their problems and and stuff and not that I didn't mind. I liked helping people but I guess maybe that's because I seemed calm and and You know, I mean, really what you see is what you get. I do have a little fire in me. Which, you know, you get to see if, you know, you're in a relationship with me for a long period of time. But I mean I I think that's pretty accurate. Like what you see is what you get. and yeah, like I I'm not I don't rush into like situations. Like I I do kind of hang back 'cause I like to get to know people before I like get all friendly and chummy with them because I don't know if they're more conservative, if they're more liberal, what their beliefs are, what their expectations are, what their you know, I I kind of wanna feel them out before I, you know, move forward with anything in in in a situation as well, like, you know, whether it's job or anything.
Sheena: So do you want to guess what MyRising is?
Sarah: Okay. I don't know.
Sheena: My rising is Aquarius.
Sarah: god. Okay. Now I can see that.
Sheena: you So Aquarius, a fixed air sign, ruled traditionally by Saturn and in modern astrology, also co-ruled by Uranus, which is kind of funny because then I have Mars, Pluto, Neptune, and Uranus, and Saturn as my top three planets, my big three's planets. So kind of funny that they're the furthest away. Aquarius rising is almost the polar opposite energy of a Taurus rising instead of warm and grounded Aquarius rising stand to read as unique a little detached which My my what is it superlative in high school was Space cadet
Sarah: I know, sorry, I'm being distracted, my son is here. so yeah, no, I that's I I can see it. I can so see it. I I I yeah, I can so see it. I I thought Gemini at first, but yeah. I can I can so see it. Yep. That's it's perfect.
Sheena: Yeah, and also hard to categorize is on my little list here. So people often can't quite figure out what to make of an Aquarius rising right away. There's a coolness to the first impression, an intellectual removal, sometimes even an eccentricity in how they dress or express themselves. of changing my hair color.
Sarah: Yeah, yeah, you're definitely expressive with the hair color, yeah, yeah. You
Sheena: and the way that I dress when I'm not working. Aquarius is the sign of the humanitarian and the outsider visionary. so they're often, they often present like they're observing the room slightly from outside it, even when they're fully present in the conversation. stack that Aquarius rising on top of a Scorpio Sun and you get a very particular combination. The detached aloof slightly otherworldly outer layer with an enormous emotional volcano underneath that most people don't get to access right away. People tend to describe me as hard to read initially or the other words, I thought you were a bitch. And then there are sometimes a little startled by how much is actually going on underneath once they get to know me, which yeah, I know. I guess that combo works as intended. So. Yeah, that would be me. am still waters that run deep, but yet chaos.
Sarah: Yep. Yep. Exactly. That's that's perfect. It's definitely better than than Gemini. It's it's definitely you. Definitely.
Sheena: Thank So then we'll come to here on how all three work together. So here's where we're getting into the fun stuff. Because your big three don't operate independently, they interact. They can reinforce each other, or they can create genuine internal tension. So let's look at Sarah's chart as a whole for a second. Gemini Sun, Taurus Moon, Taurus Rising. Her sun is immutable air, quick, adaptive, novelty. But her moon and rising are both fixed earth. steady, sensory, resistant to sudden change. So you've got one part of her that wants to learn 12 new things this week and start three new hobbies, and two much more stronger dominant parts of her that want consistency, comfort, and routine. In practice, this often means Sarah's outward presentation and emotional needs are much steadier than her mind. She can have, she can be having,
Sarah: Yeah. Yes. That is so true. Like I seriously, like I I want so much. Like I wanna learn all these languages and I wanna learn this and I wanna do this and I wanna do this and I wanna do that. But I I don't it's so it's so true. my god.
Sheena: Which is kind of funny because here you can be having eight different fascinations running through your head while still being the person who wants the same order at the same coffee shop every single time.
Sarah: Yeah, yeah. Like I I love trying new foods. I love trying new things. But when I go out to eat, like when I go to like like my favorite restaurant, like Longhorn Steakhouse, I get the same gang thing every single time. The filet every single time. But I like I love food. I'm such a foodie, you know, and I love you know, everything like sounds good, but I'm like, nope, I know what I'm getting.
Sheena: Hahaha
Sarah: I don't know. It's it's I definitely understand that. Like I I you know, there's so much Wow. That's that's so weird. That's so weird, yeah.
Sheena: Yeah, and then let's take a look at mine. Scorpio Sun, Capricorn Moon, Aquarius Rising. This is an interesting one because all three are fixed signs. fixed water. Aquarius Rising is fixed air. And Capricorn Moon is cardinal earth. So two out of three of my big three are fixed, which tracks with something people say about me constantly, that once I've decided something, I don't move. Stubborn isn't even strong enough a word. The cardinal Capricorn moon is actually the initiator in the mix. It's the part of me that takes emotional experience and turns it into forward motion, into plan, into an action. So this kind of layered analysis that makes astrology so much richer than, well, I'm a Scorpio, so I'm intense. You're not just intense. You're intense and restrained and detached and all stacked all together in a specific architecture that's totally uniquely you. And to which, yeah, for me, totally, I mean... I know I am stubborn and once I have my mind set on something, it is definitely set that way. It's not that I'm not open to learning things and changing my mind if I'm wrong, but if I'm going to paint my room blue, it's gonna be blue. And you're not gonna stop me.
Sarah: Yeah, no, I mean and just like just like your hair, I mean, you know, you you create you you are so creative. You bring that out in your clothing, in your art, your jewelry, your designs, your c your hair color. I mean, you you don't hide it. You express yourself through through that and that's awesome. Yeah, perfect.
Sheena: Yep. And I have always been that person of, OK, so what are we going to do about this? And that's what's always gotten me in trouble is, why are we doing this? And for what reason? You have to give me a valid reason, which could be the ND talking. yeah. So yeah. If you want to try this with your own chart, you can look at the elements and modalities of your own Big Three. I think I did like Astro Cafe or something like that. I don't remember. They have them out there for you. And definitely double check your times as well on this. And so. Then also I want to be really clear that your big three is just the starting point, not a finish line. There's so much more on your full natal chart that we simply don't have time for today. But I want to at least name it so you know what is out there if you want to go further down this particular rabbit hole. Mercury tells you how you think and communicate. Venus tells you how you love and what you find beautiful. Mars tells you how you take action, assert yourself, express anger or desire. Jupiter tells you where you find luck, growth and expansion. Saturn tells you where you face restriction, discipline and your biggest life lessons. Saturn is the planet behind that Saturn return I mentioned earlier. And then you've got the outer planets, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. which moves so slowly they affect entire generations more than individuals, but their house placement in your personal chart still matters. On top of that, every planet sits in one of 12 houses which governs different life areas. The first house is self-identity, the fourth is home and family, the seventh is partnership, the 10th is career and public reputation and so on. And then there are aspects. like the geometric angles planets make to each other and the math and the all of a sudden I just see symbols floating in front of my face. And so it's a lot. But your big three gives you, yeah, the big three gives you the headline and everything else is the fine print. If people want a future episode on more things like this, you know, let us know. We will definitely make it happen because either of us could talk about this for the rest of our natural lives.
Sarah: Mm-mm. It is a lot. Well and it does it does get a little like you said, overwhelming sometimes with like all the signs and time, you know. But I mean really, I mean it's it's you just kind of read up on them, you know, if if it you know, it it it can seem a little overwhelming, but it's fun and it's like I said, I mean, it just it's so accurate. Like just listening to you like explain like, you know, about the the double Taurus in me. I'm just like kind of like it's almost like mind blowing like 'cause it's it's so it it so makes sense to me. Like I can see it, but it's also like wow you know it it is tr it is true. Like you know you see you can see yourself in it. Like you know people you know, I I g you know, I I've seen it. Like they've they talk to me, they they they tell me things sometimes that are like totally personal and like within just like meeting me and and like like starts and they like confide in me like instantaneously and I'm just like I don't know you Okay. I don't know you but Like, you know, like b like coworkers that I've I've talked to through the computer but have never met me in real life. But they just you know, like this one, you know, gal of course she was younger and maybe that was just me and Mercing too, but I mean she just kinda started telling me about her frustrations at work and with certain coworkers and you know, I was like I hear ya. You know, I get ya. I I know exactly what you're talking about 'cause I've been there done that with the same coworker, so yeah. And without even me like saying anything to her, you know? I she just like start it out and I'm like you're yeah you're like nineteen but still I mean you know she's just telling me like I'm mom or something and I'm like I guess I could be her mom too. She's I'm that old. Anyway. Thanks. Thanks. You agree are you agreeing with that could be her mom and Thanks. No. I no
Sheena: you Yes, mean, my friends have. Yes, we could be her mother because my friend's daughter is
Sarah: Thank you. But no, I mean yeah.
Sheena: older than them.
Sarah: It it just makes sense that, you know, that's maybe what people were seeing in me that maybe I didn't realize I was giving out. But it makes sense. It makes sense.
Sheena: And explains me too. Big time. So I'm going to bring it all the way back to the beginning here. Your Sun side is your core identity. The conscious self that you built towards your whole life. Your moon sign is your emotional inner world, the instinctive reactions that run underneath everything. And your rising sign is your outward presentation, the first impression the face of the world sees before it meets the rest of you. So together those three placements give you a vastly more nuanced picture of the person than any single sign could ever be. Sarah being a Gemini Sun with Taurus Moon and Taurus Rising means a mind that craves novelty wrapped in a nervous system and outer presentation that craves stability. Me being a Scorpio Sun with a Capricorn Moon and Aquarius Rising means an emotionally intense core processed through discipline and structure. to the world through a cool detached, slightly eccentric outer layer. And like I said, if you've never looked up your charts, there's astro.com is a classic. And even if you're a skeptic, sometimes, you know, this can just be a little fun for you and maybe a little self reflection. Sometimes the value isn't whether the stars were literally steering your personality. It's that sitting down and really thinking through what is my core identity? What do I need emotionally? How do I show up in the world is a useful exercise regarding where the prompts come from. So unless of course you're using it to avoid actual introspective introspection entirely, but that's a different podcast and possibly a different therapist.
Sarah: Yeah. Yeah. That's that's that's definitely another time and place. But Yeah, that's so cool. That's so cool. I I love I loved hearing about us and our inner workings and it it it definitely I wanna read out I definitely definitely I do wanna read up on it more because I I I know a lot about obviously the Gemini signs sign and
Sheena: So. Yeah, so.
Sarah: But it I'd never really delved a whole lot into the other multiple signs. well I guess for me sign, well, main sign of course. But yeah. I I mean I had I had the chart, but honestly I'd never really delved into it, but it makes sense. It does.
Sheena: Yep.
Sarah: And how it it just that dichotomy of how how I can be like one way. And I always thought that was like the Gemini. Like I thought maybe it was just like two different sides, like a you know, or or you know, like I don't want to say like split personalities, that makes me sound freaking nuts. but you know, like how I like this but then I like this and but that that just it makes so much sense. It does.
Sheena: You
Sarah: Like how I I and I thought it was like the opposite, you know, like I like you know, with the twins, like, you know, but no, it's the Taurus in me.
Sheena: Yep. Yep. Well, and you're up next week.
Sarah: Yes. Oddities. Oddities. Yep. Yep. So I'm I have a couple of of op I'm still I'm still trying to decide if I wanna do I I wanna do oddities from like like weird
Sheena: And what do you have? yes.
Sarah: people, things that happen to people. Like like from like
Sheena: Like Rasputin's dick.
Sarah: Like o yeah, like the olden days, like, you know, 'cause I I love history. I gotta I gotta incorporate history into this. But like like you know, like the freak shows, you know, like they used to have, you know, because the people were like, you know, they stunted growth or they were, you know, overgrown, overgrown or they you know. But I'm I'm I don't know if I wanna do like a h an episode in one person or if I wanna do like a you know, a little like you know, cl I don't know. So I'm still trying to debate to debate what I wanna do. But I have a couple of people that I
Sheena: Mm.
Sarah: was looking at that but I don't know if I can make like a whole episode out of one person. So I'm not sure. I'm not sure.
Sheena: Well, I'll be excited about it. So I spun the wheel and I got true crime.
Sarah: True prime, sweet.
Sheena: True crime, true crime. So.
Sarah: Okay. well thank you so much, friend. I really appreciate that. That was that was an enlightening an enlightening discussion. So love it.
Sheena: Yeah, yeah, mean, it was a lot of stuff that I didn't really recognize a lot as well, especially the whole Capricorn moon of it all. Because like I said, my superlative for the high school for my yearbook was Space Cadet.
Sarah: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yes, I can see that. I can see that because I remember you used to be like, I'm just a blonde. And I was like, that would drive me crazy. Because I was like, no. Yeah, and I'm like, no. Just a chair's a girl. I'm a blonde. And I'm like, no. No, not.
Sheena: You I'm just the blonde and I'm Polish.
Sarah: You know, used to like
Sheena: come on, I'm blonde and Polish.
Sarah: I just i I was like, You're not like a superficial space cadet. Stop that. You're not. so
Sheena: I'm still waters underneath.
Sarah: Exactly. Exactly.
Sheena: I'm just a big old weirdo, okay? Well, yes. Yes. Yes, definitely. And so...
Sarah: All right. Yeah. We're all weird. That's what makes us all cool. We're all weird in our own unique way. It's great. Well, speaking of that, weirdos.
Sheena: Yes, until next time. Stay weird.
Sarah: Yeah. So tune in next time we're our lovely weirdos, fellow weirdos, and join us and hopefully you'll enjoy my podcast on weirdos of the past. because you know we're all weird. and once again you can, you know, find us on Facebook and Insta and
Sheena: Yep. And so.
Sarah: YouTube and you know, yeah, Apple and everywhere that you can you know get podcasts and you email us, you know, we'd love to hear from you. Love to hear from you.
Sheena: rate and review us and share us with your friends. Yeah. So I guess until next time, stay weird, stay curious, and don't add us if you're a Gemini son who somehow listened to this whole episode and still forgot the ending. Love you guys. Bye.
Sarah: Awesome. Love you guys. Bye. Hi.
Bye. Hi.
