Packers Total Access: 🚨 BREAKING: Packers Get Terrible News! Who Will Step Up?

The gut punch that LaFleur warned about Sunday night became official Monday morning — and the most devastating individual defensive injury update of an already brutally injury-tested 2026 season just landed directly on top of the most important week of the year! Adam Schefter confirmed this morning that tests on Monday verified the tear: Javon Hargrave has suffered a season-ending torn Achilles, ending his 2026 campaign after just five weeks. Hargrave was carted off Lambeau Field late in Sunday’s 31-7 win over the Bears after a non-contact injury on a second-down play — the cruelest possible individual timing in the cruelest possible individual sequence of events. This is the second Packers defender to tear an Achilles in consecutive weeks. Edgerrin Cooper went down in Week 4 in Tampa. Javon Hargrave went down in Week 5 against the Bears. Both non-contact. Both season-ending. Both interior defensive players. LaFleur called it “bittersweet” Sunday night. On Monday morning — with the Cowboys coming to Lambeau Field next Sunday night and Micah Parsons potentially returning to practice this week — the answer to “who will step up?” is the most urgent individual roster question on the entire Green Bay Packers 2026 season.

In this complete Javon Hargrave season-ending Achilles breakdown and full who-will-step-up evaluation, we dive into:

• The Hargrave Confirmation — What Was Lost: Hargrave signed a two-year deal with Green Bay this offseason and brought the most experienced interior pass rush presence on the entire 2026 Packers defensive line outside of Devonte Wyatt. At 33 years old, with stints at the Eagles, 49ers, Vikings, and now the Packers, he was the veteran anchor of a defensive tackle rotation that has already been depleted by Anthony Campbell’s ankle injury limiting his availability all season. In five weeks, Hargrave posted six tackles, two quarterback hits, and a pass defensed — numbers that don’t capture his value as the run-stuffing, gap-control presence that Gannon’s 3-4 hybrid demands from the interior. He will undergo surgery and begin rehabilitation targeting a 2027 return. He remains under contract through the 2027 season.
• Two Achilles Tears In Two Weeks — The Injury Context: Edgerrin Cooper went down Week 4 with a torn Achilles on a non-contact blitz attempt in Tampa Bay. Javon Hargrave went down Week 5 with a torn Achilles on a non-contact play in Green Bay. Two of the most irreplaceable defensive players on the entire 2026 roster — a Will linebacker and a starting defensive tackle — lost to the same catastrophic non-contact injury in back-to-back weeks. The “cursed” word that Fox 11’s Vince Lovergine used after the Cooper injury is being repeated across every Green Bay media outlet this morning — and the honest organizational answer is that the championship window is now being tested by an injury crisis that no amount of preseason depth planning could have anticipated.
• Chris McClellan — The Rookie Who Must Step Up: McClellan is the most likely individual replacement for Hargrave’s snaps at defensive tackle — the 120th overall pick of the 2026 draft who has been working in the rotation behind Hargrave and Wyatt all season. His performance against the Bears on Sunday — three tackles, two quarterback hits, one sack, two tackles for loss, one pass defended, and one fumble recovery — was the most encouraging individual defensive rookie debut of the entire season and the most perfectly timed individual audition for a larger role imaginable. The Packers didn’t just lose Hargrave — they simultaneously watched his replacement announce himself on national television. McClellan steps into a starting role he earned.
• The Skyy Moore And Benjamin St-Juste Concerns: Moore was ruled out for the remainder of Sunday’s game with an ankle injury — a new concern for a player who was already the most important individual special teams weapon on the roster as the primary punt returner. St-Juste is questionable with a hamstring from Sunday. Neither injury was described as serious, but both add to the individual health monitoring list heading into the Cowboys SNF game next week. Anthony Campbell’s ankle also remains a limitation. The Packers’ injury bill for the 2026 season is the most extensive individual casualty list in the NFC North — and the fact that they are 3-2 despite all of it is the most remarkable individual organizational achievement of the Matt LaFleur era.
• The Full Who-Will-Step-Up Answer — And Why The Championship Window Stays Open: Zaire Franklin, whose “Luther Burden said he’d make us quit, but he quit Sunday” postgame quote is the most championship-caliber individual line delivered by any Green Bay Packer all season, is the defensive identity of this team right now. McClellan steps into a starting DT role he demonstrated he deserves. Micah Parsons has legitimate optimism for a practice return THIS WEEK. Josh Jacobs’ suspension resolution is approaching. The 3-2 Packers have survived every individual injury crisis this season has thrown at them — and the answer to “who will step up?” on this team has never been one player. It has been the next man up, every single time, for five consecutive weeks. The Cowboys come to Lambeau next Sunday night. Go Pack Go!
