Packers Total Access : 💥 Defensive Depth Chart UPDATE! Training Camp Preview

🔴 LIVE Packers LATEST News! Defensive Depth Chart UPDATE! Training Camp Preview

The full Green Bay Packers defensive depth chart is finally taking shape — and Jonathan Gannon's new 3-4 scheme has created some FASCINATING decisions for Brian Gutekunst heading into training camp. At edge rusher, Micah Parsons and Lukas Van Ness are the starters on paper, but with Parsons opening on PUP, Barryn Sorrell and Brenton Cox are the top backups expected to carry the load for the first month-plus of the season — and Bill Huber calls this an "interesting group with absolutely zero proven depth but plenty of intriguing options." At linebacker, Edgerrin Cooper and trade acquisition Zaire Franklin are the locked-in starters, with the Packers carrying as few as four linebackers in their base 3-4 — meaning Nick Niemann has the inside track over Kristian Welch for the final roster spot. The secondary is loaded with talent — Keisean Nixon, Benjamin St-Juste, and second-round rookie Brandon Cisse at cornerback, and Xavier McKinney, Evan Williams, and Javon Bullard giving Gannon the deepest safety room in franchise history.

• The full Packers defensive depth chart breakdown position by position heading into training camp — every starter, every backup, every roster bubble player
• Edge rusher group fully explained — Parsons and Van Ness as Week 1 starters on paper, but why Sorrell and Cox are the players who actually determine the defense's success for the first six weeks
• The complete pass rush production reality check — the ENTIRE depth chart behind Van Ness has combined for just 15.5 career sacks, four of those belonging to Cox during a hot stretch in 2024
• Dani Dennis-Sutton and Collin Oliver — the two unproven options who "have a lot to prove," with Sorrell needing to show he can rush the passer and Oliver needing to simply stay healthy
• Linebacker room breakdown — Edgerrin Cooper and Zaire Franklin as the locked-in starters, and why the Packers are running with as few as four linebackers in their base 3-4 defense
• The Nick Niemann vs. Kristian Welch battle for the final linebacker spot — both signed for special teams value, but only one likely makes the 53-man roster
• Cornerback room FULLY broken down — Nixon, St-Juste, and Cisse as the top three, Carrington Valentine and Domani Jackson fighting for depth roles, and why the Packers are noticeably thinner at safety this year which helps them carry more corners
• Safety room breakdown — McKinney, Williams, and Bullard giving Gannon the most talented three-safety rotation in franchise history, with Kitan Oladapo and Johnathan Baldwin fighting for depth spots
• Defensive line group — Devonte Wyatt, Javon Hargrave, Karl Brooks, Warren Brinson, and rookie Chris McClellan all fighting for snaps in Gannon's multiple-front scheme

📢 Brian Gutekunst specifically built this roster to fit Jonathan Gannon's multiple, disguise-heavy defensive system — drafting Cisse and McClellan, trading for Franklin, and signing St-Juste all with this exact scheme in mind. The talent at safety and cornerback is genuinely elite. The linebacker duo of Cooper and Franklin should be one of the best in the NFC. The only real question mark is whether the edge rusher depth behind Van Ness can hold the fort until Micah Parsons returns in October. This is the complete defensive roster breakdown every Packers fan needs heading into training camp on July 29th.
