1
00:00:00.170 --> 00:00:01.770
It's hard to set them apart as well. They've both
2
00:00:01.810 --> 00:00:02.960
gone full rumpus dumper.
3
00:00:03.020 --> 00:00:04.879
I'm struggling to see where the service is going to
4
00:00:04.919 --> 00:00:05.459
come from.
5
00:00:05.480 --> 00:00:07.419
He's a bit of a clone of Lucas Harrington, isn't he?
6
00:00:07.719 --> 00:00:11.970
He's literally gone around to every single fan in the stadium.
7
00:00:11.990 --> 00:00:12.949
I'm expecting more.
8
00:00:13.429 --> 00:00:15.269
This is weak. That's massive.
9
00:00:26.160 --> 00:00:30.300
Hello and welcome, A-League fans, to a second edition of
10
00:00:30.359 --> 00:00:33.399
the A-League's Downloads. Can you believe after two rounds, Wellington
11
00:00:33.539 --> 00:00:36.719
Phoenix are on top, Brisbane Raw get their first home
12
00:00:36.759 --> 00:00:39.909
win in over 11 months, which is an unbelievable stat.
13
00:00:40.340 --> 00:00:42.350
And I think Western Sydney Wanderers might have just put
14
00:00:42.390 --> 00:00:45.130
the whole league on notice. A lot to get through today.
15
00:00:45.149 --> 00:00:47.890
I am your host, Jake Barker-Dace, joined by a man
16
00:00:47.909 --> 00:00:51.929
with over 100 caps for the Danish national team, Thomas Sorensen. Welcome, mate.
17
00:00:51.950 --> 00:00:52.929
Welcome back for a new year.
18
00:00:53.219 --> 00:00:55.189
Great to be back for a new season and we're
19
00:00:55.200 --> 00:00:56.590
already excited about what's going on.
20
00:00:56.659 --> 00:01:00.210
You're one of the actual staples of the download from Daydots.
21
00:01:00.409 --> 00:01:03.329
Yeah, it's a fantastic show and I love the revamp.
22
00:01:03.429 --> 00:01:04.049
Yeah, there is.
23
00:01:04.170 --> 00:01:05.049
How good's the rebrand?
24
00:01:05.769 --> 00:01:08.230
Well, rebrand, it was a bit of a rebrand with
25
00:01:08.269 --> 00:01:08.989
that shirt.
26
00:01:09.049 --> 00:01:09.989
How good is it?
27
00:01:10.530 --> 00:01:12.290
Mate, you've been around the A-League as long as anyone
28
00:01:12.370 --> 00:01:15.170
from the first season inaugural signing for Perth Glory, but
29
00:01:15.209 --> 00:01:17.310
welcome back to you. Again, mate.
30
00:01:17.709 --> 00:01:18.269
Thanks, Jakey.
31
00:01:18.409 --> 00:01:19.569
Big weekend of football, wasn't it?
32
00:01:19.870 --> 00:01:22.659
Massive, massive. Really good round of football and can't wait
33
00:01:22.700 --> 00:01:23.640
to unpack it, Tomo.
34
00:01:23.980 --> 00:01:26.969
Oh. Yeah, well, let's get into some of our Monday's
35
00:01:27.049 --> 00:01:29.370
best because this is where we look at a lot
36
00:01:29.409 --> 00:01:31.150
that's happened around the ground, some of the best moments,
37
00:01:31.430 --> 00:01:33.329
but equally some of the weirdest stuff might be coming
38
00:01:33.430 --> 00:01:35.549
into this segment as well. And we're going to open
39
00:01:35.629 --> 00:01:39.129
up with Brisbane's marquee signing. Nam Tae Hee, what a
40
00:01:39.209 --> 00:01:42.349
volley this was to open... Oh, I shouldn't say open
41
00:01:42.370 --> 00:01:45.189
the scoring, but to capitalise on a moment, the touch
42
00:01:45.230 --> 00:01:47.810
here and then the finish to match. What a brilliant
43
00:01:48.390 --> 00:01:50.909
addition to the squad and potentially the A-League we have here, gents.
44
00:01:51.510 --> 00:01:56.409
No, unbelievable finish. The first touch and... You know, if
45
00:01:56.430 --> 00:01:59.469
you're Perth, you'd be unhappy. The way the back line dropped,
46
00:01:59.640 --> 00:02:03.859
but he took full advantage. And, you know, fantastic pick-up. Apparently,
47
00:02:03.900 --> 00:02:06.120
they haven't paid too much for him. He just wanted
48
00:02:06.140 --> 00:02:08.599
to come to Australia and... Here he is, and he's
49
00:02:08.620 --> 00:02:10.060
delivering on the first game.
50
00:02:10.340 --> 00:02:13.280
Butka, his general play as well, we'll go into that game.
51
00:02:13.419 --> 00:02:13.780
We will.
52
00:02:13.960 --> 00:02:15.900
But that was a cherry on top for a great
53
00:02:15.919 --> 00:02:16.539
performance for him.
54
00:02:16.780 --> 00:02:18.860
All class, and that's what we see from, I guess,
55
00:02:18.900 --> 00:02:22.770
that level of Asian player, Korean, Japanese, that technical aspect
56
00:02:23.189 --> 00:02:25.490
and their technique is best in class.
57
00:02:25.789 --> 00:02:25.949
Yeah.
58
00:02:26.189 --> 00:02:28.830
Yeah, absolutely. Well, make sure you all head at home
59
00:02:28.870 --> 00:02:31.250
to the A-League's Instagram so you can vote for the
60
00:02:31.340 --> 00:02:34.219
Isuzu MUX Goal of the Week. That is definitely going
61
00:02:34.240 --> 00:02:37.159
to be a contender for it. What a brilliant finish.
62
00:02:37.699 --> 00:02:39.759
Another brilliant moment around the grounds, and we've got to
63
00:02:39.780 --> 00:02:42.580
put our hands together for coming back after such a
64
00:02:42.699 --> 00:02:46.729
treacherous moment and injury. Alex Badalato, we saw him return
65
00:02:46.830 --> 00:02:49.069
to the grounds after eight and nine months out with
66
00:02:49.469 --> 00:02:51.870
what was a pretty serious knee injury and a moment
67
00:02:51.930 --> 00:02:54.330
where he was playing so well in the league, Thomas, really.
68
00:02:55.000 --> 00:02:57.039
He was on fire at the beginning of last season,
69
00:02:57.099 --> 00:03:00.740
obviously having made the move from victory and they need
70
00:03:00.759 --> 00:03:02.680
him back. And he was, you know, you saw Burgess
71
00:03:02.719 --> 00:03:05.319
coming off and they see him, have seen him for
72
00:03:05.340 --> 00:03:08.159
the last nine months working hard. And this is just,
73
00:03:08.219 --> 00:03:11.759
you know, the final nail and great to see you
74
00:03:11.800 --> 00:03:12.240
for the lad.
75
00:03:12.539 --> 00:03:15.419
It's so good to be back on the park after
76
00:03:15.439 --> 00:03:19.319
a pretty serious injury. I think it was ACL. And
77
00:03:19.340 --> 00:03:21.550
that's always a big moment, that first moment when you
78
00:03:21.569 --> 00:03:23.530
step on the ground. And like you said, you see
79
00:03:23.569 --> 00:03:25.650
his worth. Captain gives him a little bit of love.
80
00:03:26.050 --> 00:03:28.370
He's going to play a pivotal role for Newcastle moving forward.
81
00:03:28.490 --> 00:03:32.340
Yeah, Newcastle excited. Newcastle fans excited, that's for sure. Let's
82
00:03:32.379 --> 00:03:34.240
not forget he did have a hat-trick against Melbourne Victory
83
00:03:34.280 --> 00:03:37.150
last year and an absolute stunner. in the F3 derby.
84
00:03:37.169 --> 00:03:40.349
So welcome back to you, Alex Badalato. Now, one of
85
00:03:40.370 --> 00:03:42.689
the great moments on and off the field across the
86
00:03:42.719 --> 00:03:45.020
weekend was to, I think he's becoming a bit of
87
00:03:45.060 --> 00:03:48.560
a download favourite, Batka, but Oriola Sunday. Let's have a
88
00:03:48.620 --> 00:03:52.400
look at his run in here with some birds, native
89
00:03:52.419 --> 00:03:53.840
birds of Australia, if you will. I don't know. I
90
00:03:53.879 --> 00:03:55.560
thought they were around the whole world, but pelican.
91
00:03:57.240 --> 00:03:58.060
I think I've got enough fish.
92
00:03:58.479 --> 00:04:02.340
Almost everything in Australia is new. Oriola Sunday's first time
93
00:04:02.719 --> 00:04:03.539
seeing a pelican.
94
00:04:03.960 --> 00:04:05.020
Look, look, look, he had another one.
95
00:04:05.759 --> 00:04:06.139
Hey!
96
00:04:06.159 --> 00:04:12.210
Hello! His mouth is so big, and I also saw
97
00:04:12.250 --> 00:04:15.189
them catching fish, so it's really exciting for me, and
98
00:04:15.210 --> 00:04:16.490
I live really close to this place.
99
00:04:17.129 --> 00:04:22.300
Come back! One of my favourite moments in alien history.
100
00:04:22.319 --> 00:04:22.600
So good.
101
00:04:22.860 --> 00:04:25.899
Let alone the week. But then Butka, the winning goal
102
00:04:25.920 --> 00:04:28.680
on the weekend, came from this man, and he had
103
00:04:28.720 --> 00:04:31.879
two bites of the cherry, one before the VAR review
104
00:04:31.920 --> 00:04:34.060
and then one after it. where we saw the Pelican
105
00:04:34.079 --> 00:04:35.060
celebration come through.
106
00:04:35.079 --> 00:04:38.339
I love this. And we're officially naming him the Pelican.
107
00:04:38.800 --> 00:04:40.860
So he's going to be the Pelican from here on out.
108
00:04:40.879 --> 00:04:43.139
He had two cracks at it. So he went round one,
109
00:04:43.740 --> 00:04:46.319
failed there. What I love about round two is the
110
00:04:46.360 --> 00:04:48.579
team gets around him. I think it's Ocon and they
111
00:04:48.660 --> 00:04:51.639
all start celebrating with him and they say, mate, this
112
00:04:51.720 --> 00:04:53.560
is your time. Time to shine. Yeah.
113
00:04:54.439 --> 00:04:57.160
Incredible, wasn't it? What a moment for him to get
114
00:04:57.199 --> 00:04:59.459
his first A-league goal and then... We've all gone for
115
00:04:59.480 --> 00:05:01.160
the pelicans, the quarter flag.
116
00:05:01.180 --> 00:05:03.600
I've not seen anyone as excited about wildlife as David
117
00:05:03.639 --> 00:05:07.199
and Dave since David Attenborough. This is fantastic. The challenge
118
00:05:07.220 --> 00:05:09.980
should be the whole team get around it. Get the keeper,
119
00:05:10.379 --> 00:05:12.199
Devin Shmears, everyone in there next time.
120
00:05:12.339 --> 00:05:13.670
Yeah, well, we're going to be bringing a bit of
121
00:05:13.730 --> 00:05:17.730
a crew of assemblement, I should say, with Butka's boys.
122
00:05:17.769 --> 00:05:18.370
Butka's boys.
123
00:05:18.410 --> 00:05:20.290
Oriola Sunday. He's got to be very close to it,
124
00:05:20.290 --> 00:05:20.649
doesn't he?
125
00:05:20.949 --> 00:05:22.730
Sunday's in. Sorry, the pelican is in.
126
00:05:22.889 --> 00:05:23.670
The pelican is in.
127
00:05:23.670 --> 00:05:24.449
The pelican is in.
128
00:05:24.970 --> 00:05:27.689
That's Butka's favourites for everyone at home, but we'll be
129
00:05:27.730 --> 00:05:30.040
adding more to that. We've got to get into what
130
00:05:30.060 --> 00:05:33.139
was a big message around the league, was definitely received
131
00:05:33.199 --> 00:05:37.129
from the Western Sydney Wanderers after their performance against Auckland.
132
00:05:37.149 --> 00:05:39.829
Not many people saw this coming, but five different goalscorers, guys.
133
00:05:40.490 --> 00:05:42.589
They put out a statement and they put the champions
134
00:05:42.629 --> 00:05:45.699
to the sword here. Some great moments, but the opening
135
00:05:45.740 --> 00:05:49.420
goal here from Vislic for Auckland just seemed like Auckland
136
00:05:49.439 --> 00:05:50.879
were going to be back to normal and then a
137
00:05:51.220 --> 00:05:52.459
floodgate's open for Western Sydney.
138
00:05:52.480 --> 00:05:54.980
Yeah, and they got done so many times on the counter.
139
00:05:55.139 --> 00:05:57.910
And great to see Borrello, I think, coming back from
140
00:05:57.930 --> 00:06:01.069
a hamstring, having to run 60 yards. But, you know,
141
00:06:01.089 --> 00:06:04.740
the quality here, And Di Piccio, I thought he was electric.
142
00:06:04.779 --> 00:06:07.579
That midfield, you know, Batka, I think was a difference
143
00:06:07.620 --> 00:06:08.180
maker in this one.
144
00:06:08.540 --> 00:06:13.379
Mate, even like you touched on that midfield, Tomo, add
145
00:06:13.399 --> 00:06:16.410
Cicluna to that now. He's really, really warming up. And
146
00:06:16.449 --> 00:06:18.910
that partnership, I mean, setting up that goal, I think
147
00:06:18.949 --> 00:06:21.209
he runs a good 60 metres. And then he shows
148
00:06:21.250 --> 00:06:24.430
some composure just before he plays that ball. And then
149
00:06:24.490 --> 00:06:27.209
the barometer, Borrello, top finish.
150
00:06:27.560 --> 00:06:29.439
Well, it's kind of, there seems to be all of
151
00:06:29.480 --> 00:06:32.019
a sudden a massive excitement around Western City Wanderers, some
152
00:06:32.060 --> 00:06:35.000
great new additions. This last goal here as well was
153
00:06:35.040 --> 00:06:37.860
a brilliant finish and moment for the club. But Di Pizio,
154
00:06:37.879 --> 00:06:41.550
you mentioned, we mentioned Cicluno. Equally, you've got Milanovic back
155
00:06:41.629 --> 00:06:43.490
in as well. So they've got a lot more strength
156
00:06:43.529 --> 00:06:45.529
and arsenal to work with. And if Borrello stays fit
157
00:06:45.569 --> 00:06:47.829
and healthy, I mean, they're going to be really tough
158
00:06:47.870 --> 00:06:49.670
to beat, particularly at home, as you can see with
159
00:06:49.750 --> 00:06:51.370
what Alkmaar managed to do to him.
160
00:06:51.750 --> 00:06:54.339
Yeah, no, they're dynamic. And I think that's probably the
161
00:06:54.379 --> 00:06:56.139
difference from last year is that, you know, they have
162
00:06:56.180 --> 00:06:59.250
that pace as well and You know, they interchange, you know,
163
00:06:59.269 --> 00:07:02.189
they find a space. And, you know, Ciccoluna, I think,
164
00:07:02.529 --> 00:07:04.350
could be one of the best players in the league.
165
00:07:04.370 --> 00:07:07.319
And then they've got a young player, Varanga, that comes
166
00:07:07.420 --> 00:07:09.360
on and scores his first A-League goal. Great for him
167
00:07:09.399 --> 00:07:11.410
as well. So they've got... You know, some firepower as
168
00:07:11.430 --> 00:07:11.990
well on the bench.
169
00:07:12.329 --> 00:07:15.050
Yeah, definitely. And Borrello Butka, let's just talk about him
170
00:07:15.110 --> 00:07:17.269
because we know that he was in the pre-camp for
171
00:07:17.290 --> 00:07:19.310
the World Cup. That's how highly rated he was.
172
00:07:19.389 --> 00:07:19.910
He was, yeah.
173
00:07:19.930 --> 00:07:23.009
Tony Popovich, and he wasn't really fit throughout the last season.
174
00:07:23.430 --> 00:07:25.569
But captain, a massive moment for him opening this corner.
175
00:07:25.589 --> 00:07:27.610
He did have a bit of an unfortunate moment. He did,
176
00:07:27.649 --> 00:07:29.389
which happens, yeah.
177
00:07:29.470 --> 00:07:31.800
It happens from time to time. A bit of a falcon.
178
00:07:32.009 --> 00:07:34.300
How important will he be for this team this season?
179
00:07:34.379 --> 00:07:37.220
Well, like I said, I think he's the barometer. When
180
00:07:37.279 --> 00:07:40.779
he's in that side... things happen and he drives that
181
00:07:40.819 --> 00:07:44.939
momentum for them. Add that midfield, add Cicluna into that,
182
00:07:45.720 --> 00:07:48.920
De Pizio. Like Tomo said, these guys are going to
183
00:07:48.939 --> 00:07:52.670
be really formidable and provide a lot of headaches for
184
00:07:52.689 --> 00:07:55.009
the back four of the other clubs in the league.
185
00:07:55.449 --> 00:07:59.310
With the Cicluna types and with all these kids in
186
00:07:59.350 --> 00:08:01.790
the A-League, the challenge might be holding onto them, Tomo.
187
00:08:02.310 --> 00:08:04.600
if they do have a really good five to, you know,
188
00:08:04.620 --> 00:08:06.759
10-week period, do they actually stay in the country? Because
189
00:08:06.779 --> 00:08:09.220
we've seen a lot of kids do well in that
190
00:08:09.279 --> 00:08:12.009
first instance and then ship off. So that might be
191
00:08:12.050 --> 00:08:13.329
a challenge for the club internally.
192
00:08:13.610 --> 00:08:13.790
Yeah.
193
00:08:13.889 --> 00:08:16.769
Well, in episode one of this season's download, Kostas Barbarousas
194
00:08:16.829 --> 00:08:19.920
was talking about Auckland's spine and how it's changed, and
195
00:08:19.939 --> 00:08:23.300
particularly week one. it didn't affect them, but in week two, Thomas,
196
00:08:23.800 --> 00:08:26.100
it seems like they got a bit exposed in terms
197
00:08:26.139 --> 00:08:28.319
of speed and pace, caught them out running through the middle,
198
00:08:28.740 --> 00:08:32.419
catching them in behind, and moments that probably Nando Pineacre
199
00:08:32.450 --> 00:08:34.889
and Vislic do want to forget. I mean, what's your
200
00:08:34.909 --> 00:08:38.350
sort of read on the change of that spine from Auckland? And,
201
00:08:38.490 --> 00:08:40.110
you know, this is the most goals they've ever conceded
202
00:08:40.129 --> 00:08:42.389
in their history in a game, so pretty big moment.
203
00:08:42.509 --> 00:08:45.990
Yeah, five goals conceded. You know, it's a warning shot,
204
00:08:46.049 --> 00:08:48.529
I think, for a new manager. You know, a lot
205
00:08:48.570 --> 00:08:51.509
of changes. They had you know, great first game. But,
206
00:08:51.970 --> 00:08:54.480
you know, I think this will highlight something that they
207
00:08:54.539 --> 00:08:57.620
need to get sorted. And they probably, you know, Vestrade,
208
00:08:58.340 --> 00:09:01.820
Gallegos in midfield, they're probably lacking that little bit of
209
00:09:01.860 --> 00:09:05.019
pace in those transitions. And I think they've got to expose. So,
210
00:09:05.039 --> 00:09:07.090
you know, there's things to work on. And, you know,
211
00:09:07.129 --> 00:09:10.350
they'll have a very informed team in Wellington up against
212
00:09:10.370 --> 00:09:11.970
them next week. So it'll be interesting.
213
00:09:12.250 --> 00:09:14.149
Yeah, that could be one of the rounds to watch.
214
00:09:14.210 --> 00:09:17.110
That's for sure. Well, Sydney FC... came from behind in
215
00:09:17.169 --> 00:09:19.730
what was and ended up being a dominant performance, but
216
00:09:19.750 --> 00:09:22.730
they had to do it the hard way against Adelaide United.
217
00:09:22.789 --> 00:09:25.149
First goals in the A-League to Rhys Juley and, of course,
218
00:09:25.590 --> 00:09:28.230
Oriola Sunday. Guys, what did we make of this one, Batka?
219
00:09:28.250 --> 00:09:30.340
This was a goal that was cancelled out here for
220
00:09:30.360 --> 00:09:32.700
Brodie Burkett, but within a matter of seconds, he was
221
00:09:32.740 --> 00:09:33.519
back on the score sheet.
222
00:09:33.820 --> 00:09:38.120
Yeah, again, like overplaying, probably, you know, Devin Ishmiz can
223
00:09:38.159 --> 00:09:40.090
just launch that. I don't know, Tomo, I might pass
224
00:09:40.110 --> 00:09:43.210
this one on to you. I mean, your thoughts from
225
00:09:43.230 --> 00:09:44.409
a Devin Ishmiz perspective.
226
00:09:44.690 --> 00:09:46.789
Let's just enjoy this from Yuli.
227
00:09:46.929 --> 00:09:48.009
Oh, Yuli does well here.
228
00:09:48.029 --> 00:09:51.370
Great strike and, you know, a great comeback from Sydney.
229
00:09:51.389 --> 00:09:54.450
But yeah, Devin Ishmiz, it's about awareness. You know, you
230
00:09:54.470 --> 00:09:57.549
want to play. But, you know, luckily it didn't matter
231
00:09:57.590 --> 00:09:59.970
because on a Sunday, Sunday popped up.
232
00:10:00.039 --> 00:10:00.110
Up.
233
00:10:00.120 --> 00:10:01.799
Sunday popped up with the Pelican.
234
00:10:02.220 --> 00:10:02.750
Very true.
235
00:10:03.309 --> 00:10:05.169
I might just add to that. I think PK was
236
00:10:05.230 --> 00:10:07.490
interviewed just out of halftime and I really liked the
237
00:10:07.509 --> 00:10:09.289
way he handled it. I think he was asked about...
238
00:10:09.730 --> 00:10:12.570
the error from Devin Ishmiz. And he said, look, mistakes happen,
239
00:10:12.610 --> 00:10:15.600
we move on. And I think Sydney did that really well.
240
00:10:15.919 --> 00:10:18.919
And you had Yuli and Quintal really in that second
241
00:10:18.960 --> 00:10:21.039
half step up from a midfield perspective. And what a
242
00:10:21.059 --> 00:10:22.899
great finish for Yuli. First goal for the club.
243
00:10:23.379 --> 00:10:27.330
Yeah, they had plenty of chances. So again, mistakes happen.
244
00:10:27.500 --> 00:10:30.169
It's all about how you respond. And I think Sydney
245
00:10:30.570 --> 00:10:31.250
answered the questions.
246
00:10:31.370 --> 00:10:33.009
Yeah, if we just go on to some of the individuals.
247
00:10:33.070 --> 00:10:35.269
Rhys Yuli, he said getting his first St. Louis goal.
248
00:10:35.289 --> 00:10:37.580
He had a great game. But Tarek Amidjo... We know
249
00:10:37.620 --> 00:10:39.460
how tough and robust he can be in the midfield,
250
00:10:39.500 --> 00:10:42.460
but equally him and Thiago Quintao were quite dominant in
251
00:10:42.500 --> 00:10:44.610
that area in the midfield. And then I think Ryan
252
00:10:44.639 --> 00:10:47.250
Grant and Ben Garuccio, as they were moving forward, adding
253
00:10:47.269 --> 00:10:50.250
that presence, it just seemed like they were dominating that
254
00:10:50.289 --> 00:10:53.710
second half and really suffocating Adelaide United, if you will.
255
00:10:54.230 --> 00:10:56.009
And that's the thing when you've got two full backs
256
00:10:56.230 --> 00:10:59.309
that bomb on, you can overload. You can have players
257
00:10:59.350 --> 00:11:02.570
drifting inside, those technical players that operate so well in
258
00:11:02.610 --> 00:11:05.929
small spaces. You know, Grant and Garuccio are probably two
259
00:11:05.950 --> 00:11:08.070
of the best in the league and they create chances.
260
00:11:08.330 --> 00:11:10.529
And it's so hard for defenders.
261
00:11:10.629 --> 00:11:11.250
It's hard to defend.
262
00:11:11.529 --> 00:11:16.440
Because you're constantly feeling like you're 2v1. And, you know, again,
263
00:11:16.480 --> 00:11:17.860
I think they cause problems all day.
264
00:11:18.120 --> 00:11:20.559
All day long. And with Buster, just a shout out,
265
00:11:20.600 --> 00:11:23.039
I think, I don't know, 300 and something games, 18
266
00:11:23.039 --> 00:11:26.129
years at the club. and still causing headaches for defences. Like,
267
00:11:26.419 --> 00:11:29.039
how good's this guy? It's hard to set them apart
268
00:11:29.080 --> 00:11:31.799
as well. They've both gone full rumpus stumper. So you
269
00:11:31.820 --> 00:11:33.840
don't know. I'm thinking, has Buster gone over to the left?
270
00:11:33.899 --> 00:11:36.299
What's he doing? He's here, he's there, he's everywhere.
271
00:11:36.500 --> 00:11:37.059
We've got the bat.
272
00:11:37.080 --> 00:11:39.500
Yeah, we want the tip rat. We want the tip
273
00:11:39.559 --> 00:11:40.580
rat back.
274
00:11:40.620 --> 00:11:44.299
That's for sure. Because they are trendsetters with the shaved heads,
275
00:11:44.320 --> 00:11:47.080
no doubt. But, Batka, I don't think you'll be doing
276
00:11:47.100 --> 00:11:48.659
that any time soon, will you?
277
00:11:48.700 --> 00:11:50.700
No, no, no. Not for me. If anything, I'll go
278
00:11:50.740 --> 00:11:52.860
the other way. I'll go to Turkey. I'll get the transplant.
279
00:11:53.230 --> 00:11:54.850
And we'll go full 80s.
280
00:11:55.429 --> 00:11:56.850
OK. Now we're talking.
281
00:11:56.889 --> 00:11:57.470
Now we're talking.
282
00:11:57.529 --> 00:11:58.590
I'm on that flight.
283
00:11:58.629 --> 00:11:59.950
Turkish hairlines.
284
00:12:00.049 --> 00:12:00.809
Proper Van Halen?
285
00:12:01.289 --> 00:12:01.669
Yeah.
286
00:12:01.710 --> 00:12:02.620
Full?
287
00:12:02.820 --> 00:12:03.169
Full.
288
00:12:03.220 --> 00:12:06.299
Just with the number nine situation, Luka Jovanovic, he was
289
00:12:06.320 --> 00:12:08.620
top scorer in the league last year, a very critical
290
00:12:08.659 --> 00:12:13.100
player to Adelaide United's team. The number nine shirt, that's
291
00:12:13.120 --> 00:12:15.919
obviously Brodie Burkett. We know he can have impact. He
292
00:12:15.970 --> 00:12:19.789
had a great start throughout the season, making goals, creating
293
00:12:19.830 --> 00:12:21.830
goals and causing havoc like we saw on the weekend.
294
00:12:22.379 --> 00:12:24.580
But you've got Abdo, you've got Riak, you've got Tartu
295
00:12:24.600 --> 00:12:27.240
and you've got Anselmo as other options. I mean, where
296
00:12:27.259 --> 00:12:30.090
are we sitting with the number nine position of Adelaide?
297
00:12:30.120 --> 00:12:32.389
Because there's not a lot of goals historically in the
298
00:12:32.429 --> 00:12:32.830
league there.
299
00:12:34.190 --> 00:12:37.110
You know, I think they've got, you know, again, some
300
00:12:37.149 --> 00:12:40.389
questions there because Anselmo, you know, he's probably great for
301
00:12:40.429 --> 00:12:42.570
half an hour. You know, he puts himself about but
302
00:12:42.629 --> 00:12:44.230
seems to run out of legs. And then you've got
303
00:12:44.350 --> 00:12:47.850
Tartu who's one of the highly touted, you know, young
304
00:12:47.889 --> 00:12:50.809
players in the league, but has he got that consistency?
305
00:12:51.090 --> 00:12:53.409
And is he ready to step up for 90 minutes?
306
00:12:53.429 --> 00:12:56.929
So it's a big loss with, you know, Jovanovic out
307
00:12:56.970 --> 00:12:59.629
and Burkett, he puts himself about it. You know, it'd
308
00:12:59.649 --> 00:13:01.269
be interesting to see how they solve that, you know,
309
00:13:01.370 --> 00:13:02.769
and you see that with a lot of teams, you know,
310
00:13:02.789 --> 00:13:05.570
they're trying to, you know, win players, but, you know,
311
00:13:05.590 --> 00:13:06.350
that's definitely a problem.
312
00:13:06.409 --> 00:13:09.350
I think that one will be on the fly, sorry.
313
00:13:09.370 --> 00:13:12.169
You know, they'll be flying the plane and building it
314
00:13:12.210 --> 00:13:14.950
at the same time to figure out, you know, who's
315
00:13:14.970 --> 00:13:16.149
going to take this number nine role.
316
00:13:16.529 --> 00:13:19.149
Yep, and an interesting watch was obviously the first win
317
00:13:19.289 --> 00:13:21.940
at home since February for Sydney FC. But an interesting
318
00:13:21.980 --> 00:13:25.000
watch was Anselmo playing as number six throughout most of
319
00:13:25.039 --> 00:13:28.000
that game and having moments of quality and obviously looked
320
00:13:28.039 --> 00:13:29.720
like a bit more tired towards the end of the game.
321
00:13:29.759 --> 00:13:32.149
So will that be a position we see him in
322
00:13:32.230 --> 00:13:35.490
going forward? Now, gents, the big one was Saturday night
323
00:13:35.590 --> 00:13:38.549
at Amy Park. The Melbourne Derby, an old-fashioned saying, it
324
00:13:38.649 --> 00:13:40.470
was a game of two halves in the end, really,
325
00:13:40.509 --> 00:13:43.009
wasn't it? I mean, Melbourne victory... came absolutely out of
326
00:13:43.029 --> 00:13:45.029
the blocks. This moment here from Charles Nduka, I don't
327
00:13:45.049 --> 00:13:46.429
even know how he does it. He heads it over
328
00:13:46.450 --> 00:13:49.370
Harrison Delbridge, who had a pretty difficult night, and then
329
00:13:49.409 --> 00:13:52.820
this moment from Jalicic and Nduka was brilliant as he
330
00:13:52.860 --> 00:13:55.000
brings it back to him to go up 1-0, Thomas.
331
00:13:56.000 --> 00:13:58.799
Again, that's a bit of quality. Initially, Delbridge has to
332
00:13:58.840 --> 00:14:00.980
deal with it, and you can't let the ball bounce,
333
00:14:01.039 --> 00:14:05.769
but again, victory took what was handed, and Jelacic, he's
334
00:14:05.789 --> 00:14:07.990
done it before in a derby, so, you know, good
335
00:14:08.029 --> 00:14:10.139
to see him, you know, showing that quality.
336
00:14:10.440 --> 00:14:12.840
And Marc Condes, he came on with a bit of
337
00:14:12.980 --> 00:14:15.830
fire and passion here, Batka, putting one of the easiest
338
00:14:15.870 --> 00:14:18.409
goals Andrew Nabu will ever score on his plate to equalise.
339
00:14:18.720 --> 00:14:21.059
Yeah, he looked really good when he came on and
340
00:14:21.179 --> 00:14:23.870
almost changed the game for City. To be fair, they
341
00:14:23.899 --> 00:14:27.450
were the better side in the second half. Probably could
342
00:14:27.490 --> 00:14:31.629
have picked up a few more goals, but it didn't happen.
343
00:14:31.649 --> 00:14:33.809
And then I think victory late in the piece had
344
00:14:33.830 --> 00:14:35.629
a couple of chances as well. So really could have
345
00:14:35.649 --> 00:14:36.559
gone either way this game.
346
00:14:36.840 --> 00:14:38.659
Thomas, I've got a bit of a double whopper here
347
00:14:38.700 --> 00:14:40.960
for you because we know you're the Melbourne City representative.
348
00:14:41.879 --> 00:14:43.340
The official City representative.
349
00:14:43.519 --> 00:14:44.919
If we look at the back end of the game,
350
00:14:44.960 --> 00:14:46.919
I mean, Melbourne City, not only did they play better
351
00:14:46.940 --> 00:14:50.740
where they made some some really important substitutions. But you
352
00:14:50.759 --> 00:14:52.360
look at the team that was on the field as well.
353
00:14:52.460 --> 00:14:54.720
We've still got, you know, Mateus Roseto to come back.
354
00:14:54.779 --> 00:15:00.330
But Emiliano Marcondes, Matthew Leckie, Takeshi Kanemori, Julio Cascante all
355
00:15:00.370 --> 00:15:02.350
came off the bench and they looked really good. And
356
00:15:02.370 --> 00:15:05.549
you've got your Socceroo, you know, playing Aziz Bej and
357
00:15:05.570 --> 00:15:08.120
also Andy Nabil on the field, Abel Mabil. It's a
358
00:15:08.159 --> 00:15:10.169
pretty formidable squad that they've got there if they can
359
00:15:10.210 --> 00:15:10.750
get them healthy.
360
00:15:11.090 --> 00:15:14.049
For sure, there's no excuses for not, you know, being
361
00:15:14.590 --> 00:15:17.450
there and thereabouts at the end of the season. You know,
362
00:15:17.629 --> 00:15:20.769
I still feel there's a bit of chemistry lacking. Some
363
00:15:20.789 --> 00:15:24.740
players maybe not quite hitting their top form and maybe solving,
364
00:15:24.899 --> 00:15:27.559
you know, similar to Adelaide, finding that right number nine.
365
00:15:27.580 --> 00:15:30.279
I don't think that boot is maybe the answer. And
366
00:15:30.519 --> 00:15:33.259
you've got Caputo who's maybe lost a bit of confidence.
367
00:15:33.279 --> 00:15:35.870
So that's going to be a question, but I'm happy
368
00:15:35.889 --> 00:15:38.049
that for the first time in a long while, there's
369
00:15:38.070 --> 00:15:42.230
a Danish player back in. Oh, you're right. Excited to
370
00:15:42.269 --> 00:15:45.450
see him come on. Again, I think that game was probably,
371
00:15:45.929 --> 00:15:47.730
it was a 1-1 draw. I think they both had it.
372
00:15:48.080 --> 00:15:51.200
They both had their opportunities. And we're going to hopefully
373
00:15:51.240 --> 00:15:51.840
talk about Freek.
374
00:15:51.879 --> 00:15:53.340
Yeah, of course.
375
00:15:53.360 --> 00:15:54.029
Let's talk about him.
376
00:15:54.059 --> 00:15:54.679
Nice segue.
377
00:15:54.879 --> 00:15:56.960
I do just want to mention on Mark Hunders, sorry,
378
00:15:56.980 --> 00:15:59.240
that he was the Danish Super League Player of the
379
00:15:59.299 --> 00:16:01.940
Year eight or nine years ago. So he's come with
380
00:16:02.000 --> 00:16:06.909
some top pedigree in. really highly rated, obviously, in Europe. Well,
381
00:16:07.370 --> 00:16:11.240
Macklem Freak is what you're referring to, Thomas Sorensen. And
382
00:16:11.679 --> 00:16:16.159
talk about goalkeepers making some game-changing moment saves. And this
383
00:16:16.679 --> 00:16:20.590
was a back-to-back saves from Macklem Freak here just after half-time, Thomas,
384
00:16:20.629 --> 00:16:21.429
which changed the game.
385
00:16:22.070 --> 00:16:25.110
Yeah, and this is that 1-0. You know, cop another
386
00:16:25.169 --> 00:16:29.250
one and you're probably out of the game. Great first save.
387
00:16:29.750 --> 00:16:32.820
And then the second one from Lacrosse, You know, where
388
00:16:32.840 --> 00:16:35.120
a lot of keepers, you spread your arms, but a
389
00:16:35.159 --> 00:16:37.179
lot of keepers would spread their legs as well. And
390
00:16:37.220 --> 00:16:41.509
he stays composed. He doesn't commit too early. You need
391
00:16:41.549 --> 00:16:43.850
a bit of luck. But, you know, those two saves
392
00:16:43.909 --> 00:16:46.750
kept Melbourne City in it and, you know, initially, at
393
00:16:47.169 --> 00:16:48.049
the end, gave them the draw.
394
00:16:48.509 --> 00:16:50.220
And that inspires the rest of the team, doesn't it?
395
00:16:50.230 --> 00:16:51.250
The dressing room there, but.
396
00:16:51.149 --> 00:16:52.370
Cut those two saves.
397
00:16:52.789 --> 00:16:54.409
You lift. When you see your keeper do that, you
398
00:16:54.429 --> 00:16:56.269
lift straight away. I mean, Tomo can vouch for that.
399
00:16:56.990 --> 00:17:00.350
And like you said, it's a game-changing moment.
400
00:17:00.750 --> 00:17:02.840
Yeah, it was important for Melbourne Victory to get a
401
00:17:02.899 --> 00:17:06.460
point and start their season somewhat well after, we know,
402
00:17:07.059 --> 00:17:09.299
the soul-crushing defeat they had with South Melbourne and obviously
403
00:17:09.319 --> 00:17:12.019
game one away at Wellington. Where are we sitting with them, gents?
404
00:17:12.059 --> 00:17:14.690
Because it seems like they're still trying to find rhythm
405
00:17:14.710 --> 00:17:16.930
with their front three, what they do. You've got Guillermo
406
00:17:16.970 --> 00:17:19.529
Maia sort of floating around in various positions. They don't
407
00:17:19.549 --> 00:17:22.349
seem to have too much width. You've got Charles Nduka,
408
00:17:22.390 --> 00:17:24.529
who's shouldering a lot of the load with pressure in
409
00:17:24.549 --> 00:17:26.579
terms of being in front of goal, which, just going
410
00:17:26.599 --> 00:17:28.920
off your stats, Thomas, I know it took you back
411
00:17:28.960 --> 00:17:31.150
before we spoke about it, but six goals and three
412
00:17:31.190 --> 00:17:33.210
assists in his 15 games in the A-League, which is
413
00:17:33.269 --> 00:17:34.190
not a bad return at all.
414
00:17:34.789 --> 00:17:38.490
Yeah, I think as a striker, you'd be reasonably happy.
415
00:17:39.890 --> 00:17:41.970
I think compared to, we were just talking about Sydney,
416
00:17:41.990 --> 00:17:46.480
I think you've got Shillington and then Serra. I think
417
00:17:46.500 --> 00:17:51.619
they're lacking that width. You've got Jelassic. They love to
418
00:17:51.660 --> 00:17:57.500
come inside and support Nduka. I'm struggling to see where
419
00:17:57.539 --> 00:17:59.720
the service is going to come from out wide. And
420
00:17:59.740 --> 00:18:01.890
Santos came on you know, in the second half and
421
00:18:01.930 --> 00:18:05.970
maybe he's a solution. But I feel they need to
422
00:18:06.009 --> 00:18:08.450
provide more, especially from those fullbacks.
423
00:18:08.529 --> 00:18:11.670
Is it maybe a little bit too reliant on Nduka?
424
00:18:11.930 --> 00:18:13.890
I mean, you look what he does for that first goal.
425
00:18:13.930 --> 00:18:16.779
He actually does really well outside of, you know, some
426
00:18:16.839 --> 00:18:20.599
questionable defending from City. He does really, really well. Maybe,
427
00:18:20.980 --> 00:18:23.619
you know, they're relying on him too much I completely
428
00:18:23.660 --> 00:18:25.920
agree with you. I think from a full-back perspective, if
429
00:18:25.960 --> 00:18:28.079
the boys can engage a little bit more, which is
430
00:18:28.099 --> 00:18:31.059
something the City do really well, you might be able
431
00:18:31.099 --> 00:18:34.160
to provide some options out wide at least. But, yeah,
432
00:18:34.200 --> 00:18:36.369
maybe it's a scenario where they're too reliant on him
433
00:18:36.450 --> 00:18:36.750
up front.
434
00:18:36.890 --> 00:18:38.970
Yeah, and let's not forget Harry Sawyer who came on.
435
00:18:39.009 --> 00:18:40.769
He'll be part of what they're doing.
436
00:18:40.869 --> 00:18:42.230
And you're going to need width if you've got Harry
437
00:18:42.269 --> 00:18:44.569
Sawyer up front because he's going to be wanting balls
438
00:18:44.609 --> 00:18:47.430
whipped in onto the head of the Atlantic salmon, as
439
00:18:47.470 --> 00:18:48.730
we say, Butka.
440
00:18:48.750 --> 00:18:48.950
Yeah.
441
00:18:49.849 --> 00:18:52.569
Yeah, very important result for Melbourne to get their season started,
442
00:18:52.589 --> 00:18:54.549
but a lot to be excited about for Melbourne City
443
00:18:54.890 --> 00:18:57.390
with that second-half performance. Guys, we are going to get
444
00:18:57.410 --> 00:19:01.130
into the Download MVP. This is where we cast our
445
00:19:01.150 --> 00:19:04.529
3-2-1 votes on criteria. That's really based on whatever we
446
00:19:04.569 --> 00:19:06.630
want it to be. So, Thomas, you're going to be
447
00:19:06.849 --> 00:19:10.059
opening the batting here with the one vote for the
448
00:19:10.099 --> 00:19:11.359
weekend's performances.
449
00:19:12.200 --> 00:19:15.700
Yeah, Yuli, I think, you know, his strike from distance,
450
00:19:15.759 --> 00:19:17.640
I think, was, you know, first of all, great for
451
00:19:17.680 --> 00:19:22.009
him to... to get that first goal. But then, you know, again,
452
00:19:22.349 --> 00:19:27.710
also turning that game around, I think, was fantastic.
453
00:19:27.829 --> 00:19:29.789
Yeah, we saw moments last year with Rhys Julie, his
454
00:19:29.829 --> 00:19:32.470
combination with Paul Ocon. He actually was having a pretty
455
00:19:32.490 --> 00:19:34.380
good year until he did that, I think it was
456
00:19:34.390 --> 00:19:35.900
a rash tackle. It might have been in a derby
457
00:19:36.359 --> 00:19:38.579
or somewhere, but it was in the first half he
458
00:19:38.599 --> 00:19:40.960
got sent off and then he never got back into
459
00:19:41.259 --> 00:19:45.119
Futale's Sydney FC team until sort of Patrick Gisnolbe came back.
460
00:19:45.180 --> 00:19:48.519
So a big moment for him... to have a big year,
461
00:19:48.539 --> 00:19:51.480
I reckon, as well... Who do you give two votes to, Butka?
462
00:19:51.819 --> 00:19:54.980
For me, it's piping hot Piper. It has to be.
463
00:19:55.059 --> 00:19:57.140
And he might be one of Butka's boys as well.
464
00:19:57.839 --> 00:20:00.539
He might be straight into that pack. But first he
465
00:20:00.579 --> 00:20:04.329
gets called offside, does the gritty, mind you, first. That
466
00:20:04.369 --> 00:20:07.390
gets chalked out. And then goes full Olympian for the
467
00:20:07.430 --> 00:20:10.250
second goal. There's a triple somersault after he scores that one.
468
00:20:10.289 --> 00:20:14.170
But back to back, the interesting one is last week
469
00:20:14.190 --> 00:20:17.170
we spoke about him not being a natural striker. So
470
00:20:17.210 --> 00:20:20.680
I don't know if this is Greenacre working with him
471
00:20:21.119 --> 00:20:23.940
and seeing that there's something special there, but him going back-to-back,
472
00:20:24.099 --> 00:20:25.940
piping hot Piper for me, two votes.
473
00:20:26.000 --> 00:20:29.140
Yeah, well, whichever way it is, whether it's Greenacre working
474
00:20:29.180 --> 00:20:31.859
with him or whether they've just found a gem there
475
00:20:31.920 --> 00:20:34.599
as a number nine, it's unbelievable what's happening over there
476
00:20:34.619 --> 00:20:37.529
because he's played in that many different positions and now
477
00:20:37.589 --> 00:20:39.369
he's looking like the talisman of the league.
478
00:20:39.630 --> 00:20:40.710
He's causing headaches as well.
479
00:20:40.809 --> 00:20:42.490
It's only two weeks in, but if he.
480
00:20:42.450 --> 00:20:44.289
Can stitch a run of games together like this, that's it.
481
00:20:44.869 --> 00:20:49.579
Incredible transition of positions that's been effective for them. Three votes. Well,
482
00:20:49.799 --> 00:20:51.500
it didn't have to look too far. The biggest game
483
00:20:51.920 --> 00:20:55.299
of the round in terms of scoreline and, obviously, shock
484
00:20:55.359 --> 00:20:58.359
was the Western Sydney Wanderers over Auckland. And Dylan Cicluna,
485
00:20:58.819 --> 00:21:01.180
wasn't he at the heart of everything in that game?
486
00:21:01.220 --> 00:21:04.750
And none other than this moment, which questionable kind of
487
00:21:04.829 --> 00:21:05.910
shove there, Thomas Sorensen.
488
00:21:05.930 --> 00:21:07.190
Double-hand bench press.
489
00:21:07.230 --> 00:21:07.369
Yeah.
490
00:21:09.029 --> 00:21:11.150
It's the gut-busting run. It's the head on the swivel,
491
00:21:11.230 --> 00:21:13.869
and it's the waiting and time of this position to
492
00:21:13.910 --> 00:21:17.329
pass to Borrello to open his account. Cicluna was there.
493
00:21:17.430 --> 00:21:19.750
Look at this again. It's the bouncing off the line.
494
00:21:19.819 --> 00:21:22.299
It's the aggression. And then he runs the whole way.
495
00:21:22.319 --> 00:21:24.119
He doesn't play the ball too early. He waits for
496
00:21:24.140 --> 00:21:26.819
the right moment. He keeps looking which side, and then
497
00:21:26.839 --> 00:21:28.819
he tees it up for his captain, who he knows
498
00:21:28.940 --> 00:21:30.180
is probably going to be his best chance in front
499
00:21:30.220 --> 00:21:32.460
of goal. I mean, he had a great game, Thomas.
500
00:21:32.559 --> 00:21:32.920
Oh, great.
501
00:21:32.980 --> 00:21:35.640
And exactly what you touched on there, when you actually
502
00:21:35.680 --> 00:21:38.740
see that, his head on a swivel, but also you
503
00:21:38.779 --> 00:21:43.089
can move defenders by looking and obviously he's assessing his
504
00:21:43.170 --> 00:21:46.670
options and finding the perfect one with the right timing.
505
00:21:46.710 --> 00:21:49.609
I think that shows his quality and I think that's
506
00:21:49.630 --> 00:21:51.859
what he's known for and that's the you know, really
507
00:21:51.890 --> 00:21:54.440
what he can add and why he could be one
508
00:21:54.460 --> 00:21:55.359
of the best players of the league.
509
00:21:55.460 --> 00:21:57.480
Yeah, absolutely. Make sure you stick around for the future
510
00:21:57.640 --> 00:22:00.529
MVP votes because, as I said, they are based on
511
00:22:00.569 --> 00:22:03.269
our own criteria, but nonetheless, we've been nailing him in
512
00:22:03.289 --> 00:22:04.930
the first few weeks, that's for sure. So well done
513
00:22:05.309 --> 00:22:09.079
to Dylan Cicluna for getting the three votes. Another three
514
00:22:09.140 --> 00:22:11.700
votes of performance on the weekend went to the Wellington Phoenix.
515
00:22:11.759 --> 00:22:14.650
They stunned... They've stunned the league, really, being at the
516
00:22:14.690 --> 00:22:17.670
top so soon with what they... where they've come from.
517
00:22:17.730 --> 00:22:20.029
And to beat Central Coast 2-0 at home is exactly
518
00:22:20.190 --> 00:22:22.470
what they wanted to do. And they started off really
519
00:22:22.519 --> 00:22:24.960
well with what was a bit of a contentious moment here, Butka.
520
00:22:24.980 --> 00:22:27.660
Rafa Duran. Was he offside? Was he not?
521
00:22:29.819 --> 00:22:34.539
Hands on hips will tell us right now. It's a
522
00:22:34.599 --> 00:22:35.259
ripper angle.
523
00:22:36.460 --> 00:22:39.599
You know, that's a bit contentious. But Sheridan, again, he's
524
00:22:39.640 --> 00:22:41.579
done this cross two weeks ago. This time not on
525
00:22:41.619 --> 00:22:44.490
Piper's head, but on Duran's. And they go up 1-0,
526
00:22:44.529 --> 00:22:45.710
which was very important for them.
527
00:22:46.150 --> 00:22:50.250
Yeah, again, the weight of the cross and Duran, you know,
528
00:22:50.289 --> 00:22:53.950
it's just showing a bit of quality. And here, you know, again,
529
00:22:54.170 --> 00:22:56.589
following up and... Nagasawa, I think.
530
00:22:56.710 --> 00:22:58.009
How about the class from Nagasawa?
531
00:22:58.029 --> 00:23:00.089
Yeah, because a lot of times you'll slash at it
532
00:23:00.130 --> 00:23:03.950
and he stays composed and obviously it hits it to
533
00:23:04.019 --> 00:23:04.630
your man who.
534
00:23:04.890 --> 00:23:07.519
My man. He doesn't miss.
535
00:23:07.660 --> 00:23:08.619
He's in Butka's boys.
536
00:23:08.859 --> 00:23:13.059
Yeah, he is Butka's boys. 100%. Well, I mean, just.
537
00:23:13.200 --> 00:23:15.099
I've got to give some credit here to Chris Greenacre
538
00:23:15.119 --> 00:23:16.619
as well. I mean, since he's come in charge, his
539
00:23:16.680 --> 00:23:18.960
record after Chief, who we know who was there, it
540
00:23:19.140 --> 00:23:21.839
was pretty up and down at Wellington, but He's really
541
00:23:21.900 --> 00:23:25.019
built a squad that works together, their sort of pressure,
542
00:23:25.160 --> 00:23:28.890
and he's also raised individual players' levels as well. I mean,
543
00:23:29.490 --> 00:23:31.289
you've got to be pretty happy with the effort that
544
00:23:31.329 --> 00:23:33.009
Wellington have shown in the first two games, Thomas.
545
00:23:33.109 --> 00:23:36.170
Yeah, and that's what good managers do. You come in,
546
00:23:36.529 --> 00:23:39.069
you assess what you've got, you find a certain way
547
00:23:39.109 --> 00:23:41.750
of playing, and then you get everyone to buy in
548
00:23:41.769 --> 00:23:44.460
and get them on board. And it seems like he's
549
00:23:44.480 --> 00:23:47.619
done it. It's definitely a great start. And what a... Again,
550
00:23:47.640 --> 00:23:49.519
we talked about the derby next week. What a way
551
00:23:49.559 --> 00:23:49.920
to go into that.
552
00:23:50.000 --> 00:23:50.400
It sets it up.
553
00:23:50.440 --> 00:23:53.720
That's where... you know, they can put a big statement down.
554
00:23:53.839 --> 00:23:55.839
Yeah, and, Butka, just on Central Coast, I mean, is
555
00:23:55.859 --> 00:23:57.759
this just going to be a result and ground that's
556
00:23:57.799 --> 00:23:59.440
just going to be tough to go to and we
557
00:23:59.460 --> 00:24:02.009
might get more accustomed to throughout the season like we
558
00:24:02.029 --> 00:24:04.390
have in the past at Wellington? Or was it, you know,
559
00:24:04.410 --> 00:24:06.230
a tough day at the office for Central Coast with,
560
00:24:06.309 --> 00:24:08.170
you know, building on what was a pretty good week
561
00:24:08.250 --> 00:24:08.609
one for them?
562
00:24:09.109 --> 00:24:11.130
Probably a little bit of column A and column B, right?
563
00:24:11.990 --> 00:24:14.470
If Wellington get this right, there's a real team ethos
564
00:24:14.490 --> 00:24:17.170
there that Greenacre is building. So you don't know, it
565
00:24:17.230 --> 00:24:19.880
might become that fortress. Always a hard place to play
566
00:24:20.339 --> 00:24:23.200
under the turn and that swirly wind. And for Hutchie,
567
00:24:23.220 --> 00:24:27.579
we know he's got his challenges this year. But look,
568
00:24:27.599 --> 00:24:29.619
there were still moments in that game where they did
569
00:24:30.859 --> 00:24:34.490
quite well. It's just going to be about really nurturing
570
00:24:34.529 --> 00:24:37.130
this team throughout the season and trying to get the
571
00:24:37.170 --> 00:24:38.509
best out of this young group.
572
00:24:38.720 --> 00:24:39.720
Where was it? Under the tonne?
573
00:24:39.940 --> 00:24:40.480
Under the tonne.
574
00:24:40.619 --> 00:24:43.930
Under the tonne, yeah, that's right. Dejan Harrington, just quickly,
575
00:24:44.009 --> 00:24:46.769
he's a bit of a clone of Lucas Harrington, isn't he?
576
00:24:47.430 --> 00:24:47.970
Same factory.
577
00:24:47.990 --> 00:24:49.230
It's hard to tell them apart.
578
00:24:49.369 --> 00:24:49.930
Same factory.
579
00:24:50.069 --> 00:24:51.730
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
580
00:24:51.750 --> 00:24:52.289
Same factory.
581
00:24:52.309 --> 00:24:54.039
He's got the same stride, the same sort of.
582
00:24:54.049 --> 00:24:58.019
Fantastic. Yeah, he looks very good. He's going to be
583
00:24:58.099 --> 00:24:59.839
one to watch for them, that's for sure, particularly on
584
00:24:59.859 --> 00:25:02.700
the defensive end. Brisbane Raw off to a winning start.
585
00:25:02.819 --> 00:25:05.890
Much needed for their football club. Particularly at Suncorp, it's
586
00:25:05.910 --> 00:25:07.910
been a long time since they've won a game there.
587
00:25:08.309 --> 00:25:10.049
How important was it for them to get their own
588
00:25:10.109 --> 00:25:13.130
victory over Perth Glory? And what was... I mean, their
589
00:25:13.170 --> 00:25:15.000
first half, I actually thought, was one of the best
590
00:25:15.039 --> 00:25:17.740
performances they've done in a long time. The football they
591
00:25:17.779 --> 00:25:21.500
played will go through some of the individuals. But even
592
00:25:21.539 --> 00:25:24.460
within all of that, Perth Glory still had chances to
593
00:25:24.500 --> 00:25:25.460
go and win the game, Thomas.
594
00:25:25.980 --> 00:25:28.819
Yeah, but I thought... We talked about the goal, the
595
00:25:28.859 --> 00:25:32.690
second goal, but here again, Perth gets called out... and Vidic,
596
00:25:33.069 --> 00:25:35.869
you know, gets in there as a proper striker. So,
597
00:25:36.250 --> 00:25:39.839
you know, punished. And Naam, you know, with the quality.
598
00:25:40.720 --> 00:25:43.039
So Perth didn't start great. You know, they were on
599
00:25:43.059 --> 00:25:46.160
the back foot. But yeah, you know, this is what
600
00:25:46.180 --> 00:25:50.039
happens sometimes. A bit of... on casual defending.
601
00:25:50.359 --> 00:25:51.859
And they're back in the game.
602
00:25:51.880 --> 00:25:53.950
They're back in the game. And could have. We'll see it.
603
00:25:53.950 --> 00:25:56.690
And this is Alice's first touch in the A-League. Just
604
00:25:56.730 --> 00:25:57.410
come off the bench.
605
00:25:57.410 --> 00:25:58.190
30 seconds.
606
00:25:58.230 --> 00:25:58.470
Yeah.
607
00:25:58.690 --> 00:26:01.799
And then he's been given a gift. And this moment, Bucket,
608
00:26:01.839 --> 00:26:02.680
he serves us to one.
609
00:26:02.819 --> 00:26:05.960
I'll tell you what. This is another one of my boys.
610
00:26:06.039 --> 00:26:10.640
I mean, the Macedonian-Mexican from Pasco Valley, he's going to
611
00:26:10.660 --> 00:26:13.880
be flat as a pancake, honestly. He's going to wear
612
00:26:13.920 --> 00:26:15.900
that on his sleeve. But that's just one that he
613
00:26:15.940 --> 00:26:18.000
has to put away. He has to put away. Like,
614
00:26:18.180 --> 00:26:20.319
we love the kid. But really, from a game that
615
00:26:20.359 --> 00:26:23.329
they didn't have much in, they could potentially walk away
616
00:26:23.349 --> 00:26:26.309
with a point. And, I mean, Griffo spoke very honestly
617
00:26:26.369 --> 00:26:29.509
at halftime and said that wasn't a great half of football.
618
00:26:30.130 --> 00:26:32.569
But they came back second half and, you know, they
619
00:26:32.589 --> 00:26:35.390
sort of worked their way back into the game. And
620
00:26:35.410 --> 00:26:38.170
they're the type of chances, especially on the road, that
621
00:26:38.190 --> 00:26:39.089
you just have to finish.
622
00:26:39.430 --> 00:26:41.119
Yeah, very much so. If we talk about the new
623
00:26:41.160 --> 00:26:44.599
players who are instrumental for the Raw, I mean, club debutants,
624
00:26:44.660 --> 00:26:51.400
George Puzdin, along with Namte He, Tate Russell, Joel King,
625
00:26:51.440 --> 00:26:57.349
Sabit Nyor, Tyrese Francois and Virgilou Postulaki. Particularly in the midfield,
626
00:26:57.369 --> 00:27:01.359
let's focus on Francois, Tyrese Francois, as well as Namte.
627
00:27:01.420 --> 00:27:03.920
That looked like a great combination in the first half.
628
00:27:04.000 --> 00:27:06.089
It had a lot of rhythm, touch. A bit more
629
00:27:06.109 --> 00:27:10.150
stability and particularly some creative X-factor, which Brisbane were often missing.
630
00:27:10.269 --> 00:27:12.289
Yeah, there was some end product. I think Francois as
631
00:27:12.329 --> 00:27:15.849
well had some great strikes from distance and they were threatening.
632
00:27:15.910 --> 00:27:19.500
And this is what you want. You know, nine changes,
633
00:27:19.799 --> 00:27:22.339
like nine new players. Aldred back as well as captain,
634
00:27:23.079 --> 00:27:25.599
new goalkeeper. So, you know, there was a lot of
635
00:27:25.859 --> 00:27:27.559
question marks, but I think they answered it. I think
636
00:27:27.579 --> 00:27:30.400
they came out first game of the season front foot
637
00:27:30.839 --> 00:27:33.759
and I think I'll be happy with that win.
638
00:27:34.000 --> 00:27:35.660
Buck, what was your big tick for Brisbane that you
639
00:27:35.700 --> 00:27:37.400
saw that's shifted from last year?
640
00:27:37.680 --> 00:27:40.359
I just think that overall dominance in that first half
641
00:27:40.380 --> 00:27:42.980
that Tomo just mentioned. Like you said, a lot of
642
00:27:43.019 --> 00:27:45.359
new ins and it looks like they've clicked fairly early.
643
00:27:45.839 --> 00:27:47.640
If they can do that in two halves of football,
644
00:27:47.660 --> 00:27:50.380
they're going to be very dangerous, especially at home. We
645
00:27:50.400 --> 00:27:51.630
know it's a little bit warmer, a little bit of
646
00:27:51.660 --> 00:27:54.009
humidity up there. So they can turn that place into
647
00:27:54.049 --> 00:27:56.150
a bit of a fortress. So they're one to watch,
648
00:27:56.190 --> 00:27:57.890
I think, in that first four to five weeks to
649
00:27:57.910 --> 00:27:59.569
see if they can maintain that consistency.
650
00:28:00.109 --> 00:28:03.329
And, Thomas, a massive decision, really, when you think Dean
651
00:28:03.349 --> 00:28:07.980
Buzanis replaced by 18-year-old goalkeeper. I mean, where do you
652
00:28:08.019 --> 00:28:10.559
stand with that? You've worked with Michael Valkanis. You've probably
653
00:28:10.579 --> 00:28:11.960
been on the other end of that decision at the
654
00:28:12.079 --> 00:28:15.910
time yourself. But a massive decision for the future of
655
00:28:17.269 --> 00:28:19.329
Dean Buzanis and, equally, George Buzanis.
656
00:28:19.980 --> 00:28:22.180
You know, it's not often you see a young keeper
657
00:28:22.480 --> 00:28:24.440
in this sort of situation. Normally, you'll get the chance
658
00:28:24.480 --> 00:28:27.470
if there's an injury, you know, but if he's seen
659
00:28:27.549 --> 00:28:32.130
something in training, he obviously sees the potential and, you know,
660
00:28:32.190 --> 00:28:35.009
Dins Bissanes is, you know, towards the end of his
661
00:28:35.049 --> 00:28:37.250
career and you've got to try to build for the future.
662
00:28:37.269 --> 00:28:39.450
You've got to try to create value and, you know,
663
00:28:39.490 --> 00:28:41.589
put him in and I think, again, he got sold
664
00:28:41.650 --> 00:28:43.309
out a little bit with the last goal but, you know,
665
00:28:43.930 --> 00:28:45.960
he'll get a few more games now and You know,
666
00:28:45.980 --> 00:28:48.730
let the kid rise to the challenge, I think. You know,
667
00:28:48.849 --> 00:28:51.269
and who knows if Valkanis will come full circle. And,
668
00:28:51.289 --> 00:28:54.049
you know, Dean Bassanis is incredibly good with his feet.
669
00:28:55.029 --> 00:28:57.630
You know, if he's seen this young keeper, you know, being,
670
00:28:58.170 --> 00:29:00.609
you know, really good, you know, on his line and
671
00:29:00.630 --> 00:29:02.569
everything else, then, you know, I liked it. I liked
672
00:29:02.589 --> 00:29:02.910
the change.
673
00:29:02.930 --> 00:29:05.910
Yeah, well said. Very brave from Michael Valkanis. But an
674
00:29:05.930 --> 00:29:09.039
important first win for the Brisbane Raw. MacArthur, though. have
675
00:29:09.079 --> 00:29:11.569
done it again, coming from behind and fighting spirit because
676
00:29:11.619 --> 00:29:14.450
Newcastle Jets had a bit of a dominant performance, probably
677
00:29:14.470 --> 00:29:17.430
a bit disappointed with what they produced in front of goal, gents.
678
00:29:17.509 --> 00:29:20.410
But it was Bertoncello who opened the scoring here in
679
00:29:20.430 --> 00:29:22.950
the fifth minute, busting his way through, shooting through legs
680
00:29:23.490 --> 00:29:27.049
and erupting the crowd in Newcastle to be followed up
681
00:29:27.109 --> 00:29:30.079
by what was a brilliant bit of individual magic, I
682
00:29:30.119 --> 00:29:32.500
would say, from Ryan Fraser into Mr Toure as we
683
00:29:32.539 --> 00:29:36.859
go in. But the rude mischances from Newcastle, Butka, seem
684
00:29:36.880 --> 00:29:37.799
to be a theme in this game.
685
00:29:38.359 --> 00:29:41.700
Yeah, and I mean, you look at the exits of Taylor, Rose, Adams,
686
00:29:42.180 --> 00:29:43.690
and you think, OK, where are their goals going to
687
00:29:43.730 --> 00:29:47.190
come from? A couple of chances for Bertolicio, even Virgos
688
00:29:47.250 --> 00:29:50.069
as well. They can probably lock this game up in
689
00:29:50.089 --> 00:29:52.660
the first half. They don't. And then this is all
690
00:29:52.720 --> 00:29:53.119
it takes.
691
00:29:53.559 --> 00:29:54.359
A quick rocket.
692
00:29:54.579 --> 00:30:02.369
Literally a rocket with some coaching from a socceroo as well. But,
693
00:30:02.549 --> 00:30:04.250
you know, a great ball from Fraser. We know he
694
00:30:04.269 --> 00:30:08.009
can deliver that. Yeah, so probably unfortunate for Newcastle in
695
00:30:08.029 --> 00:30:09.990
this one not to take the three points, particularly with
696
00:30:10.009 --> 00:30:10.880
the first half chances.
697
00:30:10.990 --> 00:30:12.400
Is this going to be a bit of a theme
698
00:30:12.420 --> 00:30:14.180
we'll see with Newcastle? I mean, they've taken a lot
699
00:30:14.200 --> 00:30:15.779
of goals out of their team when some of the
700
00:30:15.880 --> 00:30:18.359
names that Butkus just mentioned, but none other than Clayton
701
00:30:18.380 --> 00:30:21.079
Taylor as well, who was so formidable. But They'd be
702
00:30:21.099 --> 00:30:22.960
kicking themselves if they didn't take all three points here.
703
00:30:23.119 --> 00:30:25.460
Yeah, you know, they missed too many chances. I think,
704
00:30:25.539 --> 00:30:27.900
you know, again, MacArthur was the first shot on target
705
00:30:27.920 --> 00:30:30.490
when they scored. Great bit of quality with Ryan Fraser
706
00:30:30.549 --> 00:30:33.690
and everything else. But, you know, they just ended like
707
00:30:33.730 --> 00:30:37.549
that last bit of product. But hopefully, you know, Bertoncello, Bertolicio,
708
00:30:38.109 --> 00:30:40.380
they need Virgos because he missed two great chances in
709
00:30:40.410 --> 00:30:42.579
this game. And then Bartolato coming back in, you know.
710
00:30:42.599 --> 00:30:45.380
So hopefully they can get it working. But it's hard
711
00:30:45.400 --> 00:30:48.029
to overcome. You know, you've said all those players. And
712
00:30:48.069 --> 00:30:48.910
they are top players.
713
00:30:48.930 --> 00:30:49.750
That's a big gap.
714
00:30:49.769 --> 00:30:52.819
So you've got to give them a little bit of slack. But,
715
00:30:53.019 --> 00:30:55.220
you know, I think they showed enough. But now they've
716
00:30:55.240 --> 00:30:57.279
got Asia, Asian Champions League.
717
00:30:57.359 --> 00:30:58.319
And Japan this week.
718
00:30:58.440 --> 00:31:00.339
Yeah, so that's going to be the big challenge.
719
00:31:00.539 --> 00:31:00.839
Yeah.
720
00:31:01.299 --> 00:31:03.359
I mean, that's a whole different ballgame, as we know.
721
00:31:03.440 --> 00:31:06.619
I mean, that's going to be difficult for them, I guess,
722
00:31:06.660 --> 00:31:09.890
to be travelling back and forth. But you're right. It's
723
00:31:09.910 --> 00:31:11.430
probably some time to put a bit of spotlight on
724
00:31:11.450 --> 00:31:13.089
Nikos Virgos. He needs to start scoring.
725
00:31:13.329 --> 00:31:14.309
He needs to step up.
726
00:31:14.529 --> 00:31:18.430
Consistently for this team who are, you know, reigning... champions
727
00:31:18.450 --> 00:31:21.150
in regards to the home and away season so yeah
728
00:31:21.170 --> 00:31:23.130
they had their moments there Newcastle and I'm sure they'll
729
00:31:23.150 --> 00:31:25.930
be back again but MacArthur it looked like they were
730
00:31:25.950 --> 00:31:28.200
more likely to win after that late goal and they
731
00:31:28.259 --> 00:31:31.380
showed that spirit again where I think a lot a
732
00:31:31.420 --> 00:31:33.420
lot of people are expecting MacArthur to do some to
733
00:31:33.460 --> 00:31:35.200
do some things this season with the squad that they've
734
00:31:35.220 --> 00:31:35.900
assembled Butka.
735
00:31:36.240 --> 00:31:39.039
Well like we said last week that squad runs deep
736
00:31:39.059 --> 00:31:41.079
they've got a lot of class I think once they
737
00:31:41.180 --> 00:31:44.880
settle uh, you'll find that, um, not only will they
738
00:31:45.200 --> 00:31:47.980
potentially shock some teams, uh, but they might be able
739
00:31:48.000 --> 00:31:50.200
to make that run into the six. So I think
740
00:31:50.240 --> 00:31:53.309
Sasha is really building nicely. Um, a few boys building
741
00:31:53.329 --> 00:31:57.150
their fitness once they get firing, uh, they'll be dangerous. Yep.
742
00:31:57.309 --> 00:32:00.369
Yep. Definitely. Well, uh, It's a new segment and it's
743
00:32:00.410 --> 00:32:02.509
one of the favourite ones that's becoming on the show
744
00:32:02.569 --> 00:32:05.809
because you guys can get involved. It is peak or weak,
745
00:32:06.269 --> 00:32:08.769
ladies and gents. You guys can get involved in the comments.
746
00:32:08.829 --> 00:32:11.410
Join us with your views around the questions that will
747
00:32:11.430 --> 00:32:13.710
be going. We are throwing the questions between each other
748
00:32:14.089 --> 00:32:15.970
so that we all get a chance to answer, is
749
00:32:16.049 --> 00:32:18.529
it peak or is it weak to each statement? So
750
00:32:18.569 --> 00:32:21.509
I'm going to go first to you, Naum Sekulovski.
751
00:32:21.750 --> 00:32:22.049
Let's go.
752
00:32:22.109 --> 00:32:25.970
Amber Bill copped a nasty case of mischanced itis on
753
00:32:26.059 --> 00:32:30.130
Saturday night. Let's have a look. Here he comes in,
754
00:32:30.430 --> 00:32:33.869
cuts onto the left, hits it over, and then straight
755
00:32:33.890 --> 00:32:34.549
to the right hip.
756
00:32:34.809 --> 00:32:38.450
Ouch. Oh, no. Look, no, no. We're going to say peak.
757
00:32:39.029 --> 00:32:43.440
Potentially showing a little bit of weak, but we're going
758
00:32:43.460 --> 00:32:45.400
to say peak. Potentially showing a little bit of weak.
759
00:32:45.460 --> 00:32:46.680
Maybe just pull that hip.
760
00:32:46.779 --> 00:32:48.980
We'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
761
00:32:49.000 --> 00:32:54.759
We'll give him the benefit of the doubt. All right, well, Batka,
762
00:32:54.779 --> 00:32:55.420
it's over to you.
763
00:32:55.480 --> 00:32:58.869
All right, Tomo, have we already seen the goal line
764
00:32:58.950 --> 00:33:01.289
clearance of the season from Big Bad Billy?
765
00:33:01.609 --> 00:33:03.829
Oh, this was a ripper.
766
00:33:04.130 --> 00:33:08.230
It's a great bit of effort from Tuoloma. But you
767
00:33:08.250 --> 00:33:10.950
know what? I trust the defenders of this league. I'm
768
00:33:10.990 --> 00:33:14.450
expecting more. This is weak.
769
00:33:14.910 --> 00:33:20.170
Oh, Tomo, that's massive. That's massive. That's massive. Step up.
770
00:33:20.470 --> 00:33:22.660
Oh, I can only apologise.
771
00:33:22.880 --> 00:33:24.180
That's massive.
772
00:33:24.200 --> 00:33:25.480
Sorry, Billy. Sorry for us, mate.
773
00:33:25.819 --> 00:33:26.339
Sorry for us.
774
00:33:26.359 --> 00:33:26.799
Sorry, Billy.
775
00:33:26.819 --> 00:33:30.400
Don't control our Danish friend. That was unbelievable.
776
00:33:30.599 --> 00:33:31.299
Big call.
777
00:33:31.400 --> 00:33:32.019
Yeah, big call.
778
00:33:32.059 --> 00:33:34.579
But anyway, hopefully we don't see Bill in person because
779
00:33:34.599 --> 00:33:35.339
he looks feisty.
780
00:33:35.440 --> 00:33:35.900
Yeah, he does.
781
00:33:36.319 --> 00:33:39.750
Hey, bud, Jake. Juan Mata. Is he as classy off
782
00:33:39.789 --> 00:33:41.210
the pitch as he is on it?
783
00:33:41.430 --> 00:33:43.789
Jeez, I'd love to say no because he's so good
784
00:33:43.869 --> 00:33:46.690
on the field. He had 18 goal contributions last year,
785
00:33:46.730 --> 00:33:49.210
but I was there at the game. He's literally gone
786
00:33:49.250 --> 00:33:53.230
around to every single fan in the stadium, every staff member,
787
00:33:53.430 --> 00:33:56.490
every player, and took the time. It's not just a
788
00:33:56.529 --> 00:33:58.230
high and by. He takes the time to say hello.
789
00:33:58.279 --> 00:34:00.380
He came over to me and Michael's a pony. And
790
00:34:00.420 --> 00:34:02.180
had a chat like we were some of his best
791
00:34:02.220 --> 00:34:05.059
mates that he just hadn't forgotten about. I mean, he
792
00:34:05.319 --> 00:34:07.039
is definitely class. And that is Pete.
793
00:34:07.059 --> 00:34:09.699
Bit of man love. Yeah, I was going to say,
794
00:34:09.719 --> 00:34:11.239
bit of man love. But how good does he look
795
00:34:11.280 --> 00:34:12.219
in the suit, by the way?
796
00:34:12.320 --> 00:34:16.860
Highlight reel. But no, Pete for me on that one.
797
00:34:16.880 --> 00:34:19.539
But yeah, I mean, it's a bit of a nervous
798
00:34:19.579 --> 00:34:21.420
sign for Melbourne City fans when he's back in the building,
799
00:34:21.460 --> 00:34:21.960
that's for sure.
800
00:34:22.679 --> 00:34:23.000
No doubt.
801
00:34:23.019 --> 00:34:25.579
That goal from last season still rings.
802
00:34:25.820 --> 00:34:29.300
Boys, you've got some big games this weekend. Would love
803
00:34:29.340 --> 00:34:31.159
to know your picks of the rounds that you're looking
804
00:34:31.179 --> 00:34:32.599
forward to. Butka, we'll start with you.
805
00:34:33.500 --> 00:34:35.800
Battle of the West. We've got the Bulls at home
806
00:34:35.909 --> 00:34:38.969
to the Wanderers who are absolutely flying. So I reckon
807
00:34:38.989 --> 00:34:40.909
that bell is going to be in overdrive there at
808
00:34:40.929 --> 00:34:43.949
the Bulls. It's going to be going 24-7. But really
809
00:34:43.969 --> 00:34:45.130
looking forward to seeing that one.
810
00:34:45.289 --> 00:34:47.829
Is that the Battle of the West? Have you just
811
00:34:47.869 --> 00:34:48.309
made that up?
812
00:34:49.030 --> 00:34:49.590
Well, why not?
813
00:34:50.070 --> 00:34:50.409
Why not?
814
00:34:50.909 --> 00:34:52.800
I've just coined it.
815
00:34:52.840 --> 00:34:55.940
Come on, just bring it on.
816
00:34:55.980 --> 00:34:57.780
Thomas, what about you? I mean, City, they've got to
817
00:34:57.800 --> 00:34:58.519
be close to your lips.
818
00:34:59.039 --> 00:35:02.699
Yeah, you know, I would love to see they finish
819
00:35:02.719 --> 00:35:08.059
great in the derby. How do they stand up against Sydney? So,
820
00:35:08.239 --> 00:35:11.880
you know, again, Kisnoble coming back to Amy Park, you know,
821
00:35:11.900 --> 00:35:15.090
that'll be some spice there. And then, you know, Who
822
00:35:15.119 --> 00:35:17.610
of these big teams can step up? You know, that
823
00:35:17.630 --> 00:35:18.329
would be the question.
824
00:35:18.489 --> 00:35:20.349
Yeah, well, it's good to see the fans in droves
825
00:35:20.429 --> 00:35:22.130
for the derby on the weekend as well as the
826
00:35:22.170 --> 00:35:25.170
Round 1 crowd numbers were up. You guys can grab
827
00:35:25.269 --> 00:35:29.210
your tickets at thealeagues.com.au to make sure you get around
828
00:35:29.230 --> 00:35:31.010
the grounds for the upcoming games because there are going
829
00:35:31.030 --> 00:35:33.840
to be some firecrackers. You'll also have seen on the
830
00:35:33.929 --> 00:35:38.340
A-Leagues YouTube channel, Total A-Leagues is back as always. But
831
00:35:38.360 --> 00:35:40.739
Kicking Back With The Girls is also a new show
832
00:35:41.099 --> 00:35:42.800
that has come around. So make sure you do check
833
00:35:42.840 --> 00:35:45.820
out both shows that will be coming in the over-the-coming
834
00:35:45.860 --> 00:35:50.510
days across the A-League social media channels along with its YouTube. Gents,
835
00:35:50.909 --> 00:35:52.510
thank you very much for the show. What a ripper
836
00:35:52.550 --> 00:35:52.829
it was.
837
00:35:53.070 --> 00:35:53.809
Absolute cracker.
838
00:35:54.030 --> 00:35:54.610
Always delighted.
839
00:35:54.909 --> 00:35:56.989
The Download is your favourite show, as we know, but
840
00:35:57.030 --> 00:35:58.610
we'll be back next week.
1
00:00:00.170 --> 00:00:01.770
It's hard to set them apart as well. They've both
2
00:00:01.810 --> 00:00:02.960
gone full rumpus dumper.
3
00:00:03.020 --> 00:00:04.879
I'm struggling to see where the service is going to
4
00:00:04.919 --> 00:00:05.459
come from.
5
00:00:05.480 --> 00:00:07.419
He's a bit of a clone of Lucas Harrington, isn't he?
6
00:00:07.719 --> 00:00:11.970
He's literally gone around to every single fan in the stadium.
7
00:00:11.990 --> 00:00:12.949
I'm expecting more.
8
00:00:13.429 --> 00:00:15.269
This is weak. That's massive.
9
00:00:26.160 --> 00:00:30.300
Hello and welcome, A-League fans, to a second edition of
10
00:00:30.359 --> 00:00:33.399
the A-League's Downloads. Can you believe after two rounds, Wellington
11
00:00:33.539 --> 00:00:36.719
Phoenix are on top, Brisbane Raw get their first home
12
00:00:36.759 --> 00:00:39.909
win in over 11 months, which is an unbelievable stat.
13
00:00:40.340 --> 00:00:42.350
And I think Western Sydney Wanderers might have just put
14
00:00:42.390 --> 00:00:45.130
the whole league on notice. A lot to get through today.
15
00:00:45.149 --> 00:00:47.890
I am your host, Jake Barker-Dace, joined by a man
16
00:00:47.909 --> 00:00:51.929
with over 100 caps for the Danish national team, Thomas Sorensen. Welcome, mate.
17
00:00:51.950 --> 00:00:52.929
Welcome back for a new year.
18
00:00:53.219 --> 00:00:55.189
Great to be back for a new season and we're
19
00:00:55.200 --> 00:00:56.590
already excited about what's going on.
20
00:00:56.659 --> 00:01:00.210
You're one of the actual staples of the download from Daydots.
21
00:01:00.409 --> 00:01:03.329
Yeah, it's a fantastic show and I love the revamp.
22
00:01:03.429 --> 00:01:04.049
Yeah, there is.
23
00:01:04.170 --> 00:01:05.049
How good's the rebrand?
24
00:01:05.769 --> 00:01:08.230
Well, rebrand, it was a bit of a rebrand with
25
00:01:08.269 --> 00:01:08.989
that shirt.
26
00:01:09.049 --> 00:01:09.989
How good is it?
27
00:01:10.530 --> 00:01:12.290
Mate, you've been around the A-League as long as anyone
28
00:01:12.370 --> 00:01:15.170
from the first season inaugural signing for Perth Glory, but
29
00:01:15.209 --> 00:01:17.310
welcome back to you. Again, mate.
30
00:01:17.709 --> 00:01:18.269
Thanks, Jakey.
31
00:01:18.409 --> 00:01:19.569
Big weekend of football, wasn't it?
32
00:01:19.870 --> 00:01:22.659
Massive, massive. Really good round of football and can't wait
33
00:01:22.700 --> 00:01:23.640
to unpack it, Tomo.
34
00:01:23.980 --> 00:01:26.969
Oh. Yeah, well, let's get into some of our Monday's
35
00:01:27.049 --> 00:01:29.370
best because this is where we look at a lot
36
00:01:29.409 --> 00:01:31.150
that's happened around the ground, some of the best moments,
37
00:01:31.430 --> 00:01:33.329
but equally some of the weirdest stuff might be coming
38
00:01:33.430 --> 00:01:35.549
into this segment as well. And we're going to open
39
00:01:35.629 --> 00:01:39.129
up with Brisbane's marquee signing. Nam Tae Hee, what a
40
00:01:39.209 --> 00:01:42.349
volley this was to open... Oh, I shouldn't say open
41
00:01:42.370 --> 00:01:45.189
the scoring, but to capitalise on a moment, the touch
42
00:01:45.230 --> 00:01:47.810
here and then the finish to match. What a brilliant
43
00:01:48.390 --> 00:01:50.909
addition to the squad and potentially the A-League we have here, gents.
44
00:01:51.510 --> 00:01:56.409
No, unbelievable finish. The first touch and... You know, if
45
00:01:56.430 --> 00:01:59.469
you're Perth, you'd be unhappy. The way the back line dropped,
46
00:01:59.640 --> 00:02:03.859
but he took full advantage. And, you know, fantastic pick-up. Apparently,
47
00:02:03.900 --> 00:02:06.120
they haven't paid too much for him. He just wanted
48
00:02:06.140 --> 00:02:08.599
to come to Australia and... Here he is, and he's
49
00:02:08.620 --> 00:02:10.060
delivering on the first game.
50
00:02:10.340 --> 00:02:13.280
Butka, his general play as well, we'll go into that game.
51
00:02:13.419 --> 00:02:13.780
We will.
52
00:02:13.960 --> 00:02:15.900
But that was a cherry on top for a great
53
00:02:15.919 --> 00:02:16.539
performance for him.
54
00:02:16.780 --> 00:02:18.860
All class, and that's what we see from, I guess,
55
00:02:18.900 --> 00:02:22.770
that level of Asian player, Korean, Japanese, that technical aspect
56
00:02:23.189 --> 00:02:25.490
and their technique is best in class.
57
00:02:25.789 --> 00:02:25.949
Yeah.
58
00:02:26.189 --> 00:02:28.830
Yeah, absolutely. Well, make sure you all head at home
59
00:02:28.870 --> 00:02:31.250
to the A-League's Instagram so you can vote for the
60
00:02:31.340 --> 00:02:34.219
Isuzu MUX Goal of the Week. That is definitely going
61
00:02:34.240 --> 00:02:37.159
to be a contender for it. What a brilliant finish.
62
00:02:37.699 --> 00:02:39.759
Another brilliant moment around the grounds, and we've got to
63
00:02:39.780 --> 00:02:42.580
put our hands together for coming back after such a
64
00:02:42.699 --> 00:02:46.729
treacherous moment and injury. Alex Badalato, we saw him return
65
00:02:46.830 --> 00:02:49.069
to the grounds after eight and nine months out with
66
00:02:49.469 --> 00:02:51.870
what was a pretty serious knee injury and a moment
67
00:02:51.930 --> 00:02:54.330
where he was playing so well in the league, Thomas, really.
68
00:02:55.000 --> 00:02:57.039
He was on fire at the beginning of last season,
69
00:02:57.099 --> 00:03:00.740
obviously having made the move from victory and they need
70
00:03:00.759 --> 00:03:02.680
him back. And he was, you know, you saw Burgess
71
00:03:02.719 --> 00:03:05.319
coming off and they see him, have seen him for
72
00:03:05.340 --> 00:03:08.159
the last nine months working hard. And this is just,
73
00:03:08.219 --> 00:03:11.759
you know, the final nail and great to see you
74
00:03:11.800 --> 00:03:12.240
for the lad.
75
00:03:12.539 --> 00:03:15.419
It's so good to be back on the park after
76
00:03:15.439 --> 00:03:19.319
a pretty serious injury. I think it was ACL. And
77
00:03:19.340 --> 00:03:21.550
that's always a big moment, that first moment when you
78
00:03:21.569 --> 00:03:23.530
step on the ground. And like you said, you see
79
00:03:23.569 --> 00:03:25.650
his worth. Captain gives him a little bit of love.
80
00:03:26.050 --> 00:03:28.370
He's going to play a pivotal role for Newcastle moving forward.
81
00:03:28.490 --> 00:03:32.340
Yeah, Newcastle excited. Newcastle fans excited, that's for sure. Let's
82
00:03:32.379 --> 00:03:34.240
not forget he did have a hat-trick against Melbourne Victory
83
00:03:34.280 --> 00:03:37.150
last year and an absolute stunner. in the F3 derby.
84
00:03:37.169 --> 00:03:40.349
So welcome back to you, Alex Badalato. Now, one of
85
00:03:40.370 --> 00:03:42.689
the great moments on and off the field across the
86
00:03:42.719 --> 00:03:45.020
weekend was to, I think he's becoming a bit of
87
00:03:45.060 --> 00:03:48.560
a download favourite, Batka, but Oriola Sunday. Let's have a
88
00:03:48.620 --> 00:03:52.400
look at his run in here with some birds, native
89
00:03:52.419 --> 00:03:53.840
birds of Australia, if you will. I don't know. I
90
00:03:53.879 --> 00:03:55.560
thought they were around the whole world, but pelican.
91
00:03:57.240 --> 00:03:58.060
I think I've got enough fish.
92
00:03:58.479 --> 00:04:02.340
Almost everything in Australia is new. Oriola Sunday's first time
93
00:04:02.719 --> 00:04:03.539
seeing a pelican.
94
00:04:03.960 --> 00:04:05.020
Look, look, look, he had another one.
95
00:04:05.759 --> 00:04:06.139
Hey!
96
00:04:06.159 --> 00:04:12.210
Hello! His mouth is so big, and I also saw
97
00:04:12.250 --> 00:04:15.189
them catching fish, so it's really exciting for me, and
98
00:04:15.210 --> 00:04:16.490
I live really close to this place.
99
00:04:17.129 --> 00:04:22.300
Come back! One of my favourite moments in alien history.
100
00:04:22.319 --> 00:04:22.600
So good.
101
00:04:22.860 --> 00:04:25.899
Let alone the week. But then Butka, the winning goal
102
00:04:25.920 --> 00:04:28.680
on the weekend, came from this man, and he had
103
00:04:28.720 --> 00:04:31.879
two bites of the cherry, one before the VAR review
104
00:04:31.920 --> 00:04:34.060
and then one after it. where we saw the Pelican
105
00:04:34.079 --> 00:04:35.060
celebration come through.
106
00:04:35.079 --> 00:04:38.339
I love this. And we're officially naming him the Pelican.
107
00:04:38.800 --> 00:04:40.860
So he's going to be the Pelican from here on out.
108
00:04:40.879 --> 00:04:43.139
He had two cracks at it. So he went round one,
109
00:04:43.740 --> 00:04:46.319
failed there. What I love about round two is the
110
00:04:46.360 --> 00:04:48.579
team gets around him. I think it's Ocon and they
111
00:04:48.660 --> 00:04:51.639
all start celebrating with him and they say, mate, this
112
00:04:51.720 --> 00:04:53.560
is your time. Time to shine. Yeah.
113
00:04:54.439 --> 00:04:57.160
Incredible, wasn't it? What a moment for him to get
114
00:04:57.199 --> 00:04:59.459
his first A-league goal and then... We've all gone for
115
00:04:59.480 --> 00:05:01.160
the pelicans, the quarter flag.
116
00:05:01.180 --> 00:05:03.600
I've not seen anyone as excited about wildlife as David
117
00:05:03.639 --> 00:05:07.199
and Dave since David Attenborough. This is fantastic. The challenge
118
00:05:07.220 --> 00:05:09.980
should be the whole team get around it. Get the keeper,
119
00:05:10.379 --> 00:05:12.199
Devin Shmears, everyone in there next time.
120
00:05:12.339 --> 00:05:13.670
Yeah, well, we're going to be bringing a bit of
121
00:05:13.730 --> 00:05:17.730
a crew of assemblement, I should say, with Butka's boys.
122
00:05:17.769 --> 00:05:18.370
Butka's boys.
123
00:05:18.410 --> 00:05:20.290
Oriola Sunday. He's got to be very close to it,
124
00:05:20.290 --> 00:05:20.649
doesn't he?
125
00:05:20.949 --> 00:05:22.730
Sunday's in. Sorry, the pelican is in.
126
00:05:22.889 --> 00:05:23.670
The pelican is in.
127
00:05:23.670 --> 00:05:24.449
The pelican is in.
128
00:05:24.970 --> 00:05:27.689
That's Butka's favourites for everyone at home, but we'll be
129
00:05:27.730 --> 00:05:30.040
adding more to that. We've got to get into what
130
00:05:30.060 --> 00:05:33.139
was a big message around the league, was definitely received
131
00:05:33.199 --> 00:05:37.129
from the Western Sydney Wanderers after their performance against Auckland.
132
00:05:37.149 --> 00:05:39.829
Not many people saw this coming, but five different goalscorers, guys.
133
00:05:40.490 --> 00:05:42.589
They put out a statement and they put the champions
134
00:05:42.629 --> 00:05:45.699
to the sword here. Some great moments, but the opening
135
00:05:45.740 --> 00:05:49.420
goal here from Vislic for Auckland just seemed like Auckland
136
00:05:49.439 --> 00:05:50.879
were going to be back to normal and then a
137
00:05:51.220 --> 00:05:52.459
floodgate's open for Western Sydney.
138
00:05:52.480 --> 00:05:54.980
Yeah, and they got done so many times on the counter.
139
00:05:55.139 --> 00:05:57.910
And great to see Borrello, I think, coming back from
140
00:05:57.930 --> 00:06:01.069
a hamstring, having to run 60 yards. But, you know,
141
00:06:01.089 --> 00:06:04.740
the quality here, And Di Piccio, I thought he was electric.
142
00:06:04.779 --> 00:06:07.579
That midfield, you know, Batka, I think was a difference
143
00:06:07.620 --> 00:06:08.180
maker in this one.
144
00:06:08.540 --> 00:06:13.379
Mate, even like you touched on that midfield, Tomo, add
145
00:06:13.399 --> 00:06:16.410
Cicluna to that now. He's really, really warming up. And
146
00:06:16.449 --> 00:06:18.910
that partnership, I mean, setting up that goal, I think
147
00:06:18.949 --> 00:06:21.209
he runs a good 60 metres. And then he shows
148
00:06:21.250 --> 00:06:24.430
some composure just before he plays that ball. And then
149
00:06:24.490 --> 00:06:27.209
the barometer, Borrello, top finish.
150
00:06:27.560 --> 00:06:29.439
Well, it's kind of, there seems to be all of
151
00:06:29.480 --> 00:06:32.019
a sudden a massive excitement around Western City Wanderers, some
152
00:06:32.060 --> 00:06:35.000
great new additions. This last goal here as well was
153
00:06:35.040 --> 00:06:37.860
a brilliant finish and moment for the club. But Di Pizio,
154
00:06:37.879 --> 00:06:41.550
you mentioned, we mentioned Cicluno. Equally, you've got Milanovic back
155
00:06:41.629 --> 00:06:43.490
in as well. So they've got a lot more strength
156
00:06:43.529 --> 00:06:45.529
and arsenal to work with. And if Borrello stays fit
157
00:06:45.569 --> 00:06:47.829
and healthy, I mean, they're going to be really tough
158
00:06:47.870 --> 00:06:49.670
to beat, particularly at home, as you can see with
159
00:06:49.750 --> 00:06:51.370
what Alkmaar managed to do to him.
160
00:06:51.750 --> 00:06:54.339
Yeah, no, they're dynamic. And I think that's probably the
161
00:06:54.379 --> 00:06:56.139
difference from last year is that, you know, they have
162
00:06:56.180 --> 00:06:59.250
that pace as well and You know, they interchange, you know,
163
00:06:59.269 --> 00:07:02.189
they find a space. And, you know, Ciccoluna, I think,
164
00:07:02.529 --> 00:07:04.350
could be one of the best players in the league.
165
00:07:04.370 --> 00:07:07.319
And then they've got a young player, Varanga, that comes
166
00:07:07.420 --> 00:07:09.360
on and scores his first A-League goal. Great for him
167
00:07:09.399 --> 00:07:11.410
as well. So they've got... You know, some firepower as
168
00:07:11.430 --> 00:07:11.990
well on the bench.
169
00:07:12.329 --> 00:07:15.050
Yeah, definitely. And Borrello Butka, let's just talk about him
170
00:07:15.110 --> 00:07:17.269
because we know that he was in the pre-camp for
171
00:07:17.290 --> 00:07:19.310
the World Cup. That's how highly rated he was.
172
00:07:19.389 --> 00:07:19.910
He was, yeah.
173
00:07:19.930 --> 00:07:23.009
Tony Popovich, and he wasn't really fit throughout the last season.
174
00:07:23.430 --> 00:07:25.569
But captain, a massive moment for him opening this corner.
175
00:07:25.589 --> 00:07:27.610
He did have a bit of an unfortunate moment. He did,
176
00:07:27.649 --> 00:07:29.389
which happens, yeah.
177
00:07:29.470 --> 00:07:31.800
It happens from time to time. A bit of a falcon.
178
00:07:32.009 --> 00:07:34.300
How important will he be for this team this season?
179
00:07:34.379 --> 00:07:37.220
Well, like I said, I think he's the barometer. When
180
00:07:37.279 --> 00:07:40.779
he's in that side... things happen and he drives that
181
00:07:40.819 --> 00:07:44.939
momentum for them. Add that midfield, add Cicluna into that,
182
00:07:45.720 --> 00:07:48.920
De Pizio. Like Tomo said, these guys are going to
183
00:07:48.939 --> 00:07:52.670
be really formidable and provide a lot of headaches for
184
00:07:52.689 --> 00:07:55.009
the back four of the other clubs in the league.
185
00:07:55.449 --> 00:07:59.310
With the Cicluna types and with all these kids in
186
00:07:59.350 --> 00:08:01.790
the A-League, the challenge might be holding onto them, Tomo.
187
00:08:02.310 --> 00:08:04.600
if they do have a really good five to, you know,
188
00:08:04.620 --> 00:08:06.759
10-week period, do they actually stay in the country? Because
189
00:08:06.779 --> 00:08:09.220
we've seen a lot of kids do well in that
190
00:08:09.279 --> 00:08:12.009
first instance and then ship off. So that might be
191
00:08:12.050 --> 00:08:13.329
a challenge for the club internally.
192
00:08:13.610 --> 00:08:13.790
Yeah.
193
00:08:13.889 --> 00:08:16.769
Well, in episode one of this season's download, Kostas Barbarousas
194
00:08:16.829 --> 00:08:19.920
was talking about Auckland's spine and how it's changed, and
195
00:08:19.939 --> 00:08:23.300
particularly week one. it didn't affect them, but in week two, Thomas,
196
00:08:23.800 --> 00:08:26.100
it seems like they got a bit exposed in terms
197
00:08:26.139 --> 00:08:28.319
of speed and pace, caught them out running through the middle,
198
00:08:28.740 --> 00:08:32.419
catching them in behind, and moments that probably Nando Pineacre
199
00:08:32.450 --> 00:08:34.889
and Vislic do want to forget. I mean, what's your
200
00:08:34.909 --> 00:08:38.350
sort of read on the change of that spine from Auckland? And,
201
00:08:38.490 --> 00:08:40.110
you know, this is the most goals they've ever conceded
202
00:08:40.129 --> 00:08:42.389
in their history in a game, so pretty big moment.
203
00:08:42.509 --> 00:08:45.990
Yeah, five goals conceded. You know, it's a warning shot,
204
00:08:46.049 --> 00:08:48.529
I think, for a new manager. You know, a lot
205
00:08:48.570 --> 00:08:51.509
of changes. They had you know, great first game. But,
206
00:08:51.970 --> 00:08:54.480
you know, I think this will highlight something that they
207
00:08:54.539 --> 00:08:57.620
need to get sorted. And they probably, you know, Vestrade,
208
00:08:58.340 --> 00:09:01.820
Gallegos in midfield, they're probably lacking that little bit of
209
00:09:01.860 --> 00:09:05.019
pace in those transitions. And I think they've got to expose. So,
210
00:09:05.039 --> 00:09:07.090
you know, there's things to work on. And, you know,
211
00:09:07.129 --> 00:09:10.350
they'll have a very informed team in Wellington up against
212
00:09:10.370 --> 00:09:11.970
them next week. So it'll be interesting.
213
00:09:12.250 --> 00:09:14.149
Yeah, that could be one of the rounds to watch.
214
00:09:14.210 --> 00:09:17.110
That's for sure. Well, Sydney FC... came from behind in
215
00:09:17.169 --> 00:09:19.730
what was and ended up being a dominant performance, but
216
00:09:19.750 --> 00:09:22.730
they had to do it the hard way against Adelaide United.
217
00:09:22.789 --> 00:09:25.149
First goals in the A-League to Rhys Juley and, of course,
218
00:09:25.590 --> 00:09:28.230
Oriola Sunday. Guys, what did we make of this one, Batka?
219
00:09:28.250 --> 00:09:30.340
This was a goal that was cancelled out here for
220
00:09:30.360 --> 00:09:32.700
Brodie Burkett, but within a matter of seconds, he was
221
00:09:32.740 --> 00:09:33.519
back on the score sheet.
222
00:09:33.820 --> 00:09:38.120
Yeah, again, like overplaying, probably, you know, Devin Ishmiz can
223
00:09:38.159 --> 00:09:40.090
just launch that. I don't know, Tomo, I might pass
224
00:09:40.110 --> 00:09:43.210
this one on to you. I mean, your thoughts from
225
00:09:43.230 --> 00:09:44.409
a Devin Ishmiz perspective.
226
00:09:44.690 --> 00:09:46.789
Let's just enjoy this from Yuli.
227
00:09:46.929 --> 00:09:48.009
Oh, Yuli does well here.
228
00:09:48.029 --> 00:09:51.370
Great strike and, you know, a great comeback from Sydney.
229
00:09:51.389 --> 00:09:54.450
But yeah, Devin Ishmiz, it's about awareness. You know, you
230
00:09:54.470 --> 00:09:57.549
want to play. But, you know, luckily it didn't matter
231
00:09:57.590 --> 00:09:59.970
because on a Sunday, Sunday popped up.
232
00:10:00.039 --> 00:10:00.110
Up.
233
00:10:00.120 --> 00:10:01.799
Sunday popped up with the Pelican.
234
00:10:02.220 --> 00:10:02.750
Very true.
235
00:10:03.309 --> 00:10:05.169
I might just add to that. I think PK was
236
00:10:05.230 --> 00:10:07.490
interviewed just out of halftime and I really liked the
237
00:10:07.509 --> 00:10:09.289
way he handled it. I think he was asked about...
238
00:10:09.730 --> 00:10:12.570
the error from Devin Ishmiz. And he said, look, mistakes happen,
239
00:10:12.610 --> 00:10:15.600
we move on. And I think Sydney did that really well.
240
00:10:15.919 --> 00:10:18.919
And you had Yuli and Quintal really in that second
241
00:10:18.960 --> 00:10:21.039
half step up from a midfield perspective. And what a
242
00:10:21.059 --> 00:10:22.899
great finish for Yuli. First goal for the club.
243
00:10:23.379 --> 00:10:27.330
Yeah, they had plenty of chances. So again, mistakes happen.
244
00:10:27.500 --> 00:10:30.169
It's all about how you respond. And I think Sydney
245
00:10:30.570 --> 00:10:31.250
answered the questions.
246
00:10:31.370 --> 00:10:33.009
Yeah, if we just go on to some of the individuals.
247
00:10:33.070 --> 00:10:35.269
Rhys Yuli, he said getting his first St. Louis goal.
248
00:10:35.289 --> 00:10:37.580
He had a great game. But Tarek Amidjo... We know
249
00:10:37.620 --> 00:10:39.460
how tough and robust he can be in the midfield,
250
00:10:39.500 --> 00:10:42.460
but equally him and Thiago Quintao were quite dominant in
251
00:10:42.500 --> 00:10:44.610
that area in the midfield. And then I think Ryan
252
00:10:44.639 --> 00:10:47.250
Grant and Ben Garuccio, as they were moving forward, adding
253
00:10:47.269 --> 00:10:50.250
that presence, it just seemed like they were dominating that
254
00:10:50.289 --> 00:10:53.710
second half and really suffocating Adelaide United, if you will.
255
00:10:54.230 --> 00:10:56.009
And that's the thing when you've got two full backs
256
00:10:56.230 --> 00:10:59.309
that bomb on, you can overload. You can have players
257
00:10:59.350 --> 00:11:02.570
drifting inside, those technical players that operate so well in
258
00:11:02.610 --> 00:11:05.929
small spaces. You know, Grant and Garuccio are probably two
259
00:11:05.950 --> 00:11:08.070
of the best in the league and they create chances.
260
00:11:08.330 --> 00:11:10.529
And it's so hard for defenders.
261
00:11:10.629 --> 00:11:11.250
It's hard to defend.
262
00:11:11.529 --> 00:11:16.440
Because you're constantly feeling like you're 2v1. And, you know, again,
263
00:11:16.480 --> 00:11:17.860
I think they cause problems all day.
264
00:11:18.120 --> 00:11:20.559
All day long. And with Buster, just a shout out,
265
00:11:20.600 --> 00:11:23.039
I think, I don't know, 300 and something games, 18
266
00:11:23.039 --> 00:11:26.129
years at the club. and still causing headaches for defences. Like,
267
00:11:26.419 --> 00:11:29.039
how good's this guy? It's hard to set them apart
268
00:11:29.080 --> 00:11:31.799
as well. They've both gone full rumpus stumper. So you
269
00:11:31.820 --> 00:11:33.840
don't know. I'm thinking, has Buster gone over to the left?
270
00:11:33.899 --> 00:11:36.299
What's he doing? He's here, he's there, he's everywhere.
271
00:11:36.500 --> 00:11:37.059
We've got the bat.
272
00:11:37.080 --> 00:11:39.500
Yeah, we want the tip rat. We want the tip
273
00:11:39.559 --> 00:11:40.580
rat back.
274
00:11:40.620 --> 00:11:44.299
That's for sure. Because they are trendsetters with the shaved heads,
275
00:11:44.320 --> 00:11:47.080
no doubt. But, Batka, I don't think you'll be doing
276
00:11:47.100 --> 00:11:48.659
that any time soon, will you?
277
00:11:48.700 --> 00:11:50.700
No, no, no. Not for me. If anything, I'll go
278
00:11:50.740 --> 00:11:52.860
the other way. I'll go to Turkey. I'll get the transplant.
279
00:11:53.230 --> 00:11:54.850
And we'll go full 80s.
280
00:11:55.429 --> 00:11:56.850
OK. Now we're talking.
281
00:11:56.889 --> 00:11:57.470
Now we're talking.
282
00:11:57.529 --> 00:11:58.590
I'm on that flight.
283
00:11:58.629 --> 00:11:59.950
Turkish hairlines.
284
00:12:00.049 --> 00:12:00.809
Proper Van Halen?
285
00:12:01.289 --> 00:12:01.669
Yeah.
286
00:12:01.710 --> 00:12:02.620
Full?
287
00:12:02.820 --> 00:12:03.169
Full.
288
00:12:03.220 --> 00:12:06.299
Just with the number nine situation, Luka Jovanovic, he was
289
00:12:06.320 --> 00:12:08.620
top scorer in the league last year, a very critical
290
00:12:08.659 --> 00:12:13.100
player to Adelaide United's team. The number nine shirt, that's
291
00:12:13.120 --> 00:12:15.919
obviously Brodie Burkett. We know he can have impact. He
292
00:12:15.970 --> 00:12:19.789
had a great start throughout the season, making goals, creating
293
00:12:19.830 --> 00:12:21.830
goals and causing havoc like we saw on the weekend.
294
00:12:22.379 --> 00:12:24.580
But you've got Abdo, you've got Riak, you've got Tartu
295
00:12:24.600 --> 00:12:27.240
and you've got Anselmo as other options. I mean, where
296
00:12:27.259 --> 00:12:30.090
are we sitting with the number nine position of Adelaide?
297
00:12:30.120 --> 00:12:32.389
Because there's not a lot of goals historically in the
298
00:12:32.429 --> 00:12:32.830
league there.
299
00:12:34.190 --> 00:12:37.110
You know, I think they've got, you know, again, some
300
00:12:37.149 --> 00:12:40.389
questions there because Anselmo, you know, he's probably great for
301
00:12:40.429 --> 00:12:42.570
half an hour. You know, he puts himself about but
302
00:12:42.629 --> 00:12:44.230
seems to run out of legs. And then you've got
303
00:12:44.350 --> 00:12:47.850
Tartu who's one of the highly touted, you know, young
304
00:12:47.889 --> 00:12:50.809
players in the league, but has he got that consistency?
305
00:12:51.090 --> 00:12:53.409
And is he ready to step up for 90 minutes?
306
00:12:53.429 --> 00:12:56.929
So it's a big loss with, you know, Jovanovic out
307
00:12:56.970 --> 00:12:59.629
and Burkett, he puts himself about it. You know, it'd
308
00:12:59.649 --> 00:13:01.269
be interesting to see how they solve that, you know,
309
00:13:01.370 --> 00:13:02.769
and you see that with a lot of teams, you know,
310
00:13:02.789 --> 00:13:05.570
they're trying to, you know, win players, but, you know,
311
00:13:05.590 --> 00:13:06.350
that's definitely a problem.
312
00:13:06.409 --> 00:13:09.350
I think that one will be on the fly, sorry.
313
00:13:09.370 --> 00:13:12.169
You know, they'll be flying the plane and building it
314
00:13:12.210 --> 00:13:14.950
at the same time to figure out, you know, who's
315
00:13:14.970 --> 00:13:16.149
going to take this number nine role.
316
00:13:16.529 --> 00:13:19.149
Yep, and an interesting watch was obviously the first win
317
00:13:19.289 --> 00:13:21.940
at home since February for Sydney FC. But an interesting
318
00:13:21.980 --> 00:13:25.000
watch was Anselmo playing as number six throughout most of
319
00:13:25.039 --> 00:13:28.000
that game and having moments of quality and obviously looked
320
00:13:28.039 --> 00:13:29.720
like a bit more tired towards the end of the game.
321
00:13:29.759 --> 00:13:32.149
So will that be a position we see him in
322
00:13:32.230 --> 00:13:35.490
going forward? Now, gents, the big one was Saturday night
323
00:13:35.590 --> 00:13:38.549
at Amy Park. The Melbourne Derby, an old-fashioned saying, it
324
00:13:38.649 --> 00:13:40.470
was a game of two halves in the end, really,
325
00:13:40.509 --> 00:13:43.009
wasn't it? I mean, Melbourne victory... came absolutely out of
326
00:13:43.029 --> 00:13:45.029
the blocks. This moment here from Charles Nduka, I don't
327
00:13:45.049 --> 00:13:46.429
even know how he does it. He heads it over
328
00:13:46.450 --> 00:13:49.370
Harrison Delbridge, who had a pretty difficult night, and then
329
00:13:49.409 --> 00:13:52.820
this moment from Jalicic and Nduka was brilliant as he
330
00:13:52.860 --> 00:13:55.000
brings it back to him to go up 1-0, Thomas.
331
00:13:56.000 --> 00:13:58.799
Again, that's a bit of quality. Initially, Delbridge has to
332
00:13:58.840 --> 00:14:00.980
deal with it, and you can't let the ball bounce,
333
00:14:01.039 --> 00:14:05.769
but again, victory took what was handed, and Jelacic, he's
334
00:14:05.789 --> 00:14:07.990
done it before in a derby, so, you know, good
335
00:14:08.029 --> 00:14:10.139
to see him, you know, showing that quality.
336
00:14:10.440 --> 00:14:12.840
And Marc Condes, he came on with a bit of
337
00:14:12.980 --> 00:14:15.830
fire and passion here, Batka, putting one of the easiest
338
00:14:15.870 --> 00:14:18.409
goals Andrew Nabu will ever score on his plate to equalise.
339
00:14:18.720 --> 00:14:21.059
Yeah, he looked really good when he came on and
340
00:14:21.179 --> 00:14:23.870
almost changed the game for City. To be fair, they
341
00:14:23.899 --> 00:14:27.450
were the better side in the second half. Probably could
342
00:14:27.490 --> 00:14:31.629
have picked up a few more goals, but it didn't happen.
343
00:14:31.649 --> 00:14:33.809
And then I think victory late in the piece had
344
00:14:33.830 --> 00:14:35.629
a couple of chances as well. So really could have
345
00:14:35.649 --> 00:14:36.559
gone either way this game.
346
00:14:36.840 --> 00:14:38.659
Thomas, I've got a bit of a double whopper here
347
00:14:38.700 --> 00:14:40.960
for you because we know you're the Melbourne City representative.
348
00:14:41.879 --> 00:14:43.340
The official City representative.
349
00:14:43.519 --> 00:14:44.919
If we look at the back end of the game,
350
00:14:44.960 --> 00:14:46.919
I mean, Melbourne City, not only did they play better
351
00:14:46.940 --> 00:14:50.740
where they made some some really important substitutions. But you
352
00:14:50.759 --> 00:14:52.360
look at the team that was on the field as well.
353
00:14:52.460 --> 00:14:54.720
We've still got, you know, Mateus Roseto to come back.
354
00:14:54.779 --> 00:15:00.330
But Emiliano Marcondes, Matthew Leckie, Takeshi Kanemori, Julio Cascante all
355
00:15:00.370 --> 00:15:02.350
came off the bench and they looked really good. And
356
00:15:02.370 --> 00:15:05.549
you've got your Socceroo, you know, playing Aziz Bej and
357
00:15:05.570 --> 00:15:08.120
also Andy Nabil on the field, Abel Mabil. It's a
358
00:15:08.159 --> 00:15:10.169
pretty formidable squad that they've got there if they can
359
00:15:10.210 --> 00:15:10.750
get them healthy.
360
00:15:11.090 --> 00:15:14.049
For sure, there's no excuses for not, you know, being
361
00:15:14.590 --> 00:15:17.450
there and thereabouts at the end of the season. You know,
362
00:15:17.629 --> 00:15:20.769
I still feel there's a bit of chemistry lacking. Some
363
00:15:20.789 --> 00:15:24.740
players maybe not quite hitting their top form and maybe solving,
364
00:15:24.899 --> 00:15:27.559
you know, similar to Adelaide, finding that right number nine.
365
00:15:27.580 --> 00:15:30.279
I don't think that boot is maybe the answer. And
366
00:15:30.519 --> 00:15:33.259
you've got Caputo who's maybe lost a bit of confidence.
367
00:15:33.279 --> 00:15:35.870
So that's going to be a question, but I'm happy
368
00:15:35.889 --> 00:15:38.049
that for the first time in a long while, there's
369
00:15:38.070 --> 00:15:42.230
a Danish player back in. Oh, you're right. Excited to
370
00:15:42.269 --> 00:15:45.450
see him come on. Again, I think that game was probably,
371
00:15:45.929 --> 00:15:47.730
it was a 1-1 draw. I think they both had it.
372
00:15:48.080 --> 00:15:51.200
They both had their opportunities. And we're going to hopefully
373
00:15:51.240 --> 00:15:51.840
talk about Freek.
374
00:15:51.879 --> 00:15:53.340
Yeah, of course.
375
00:15:53.360 --> 00:15:54.029
Let's talk about him.
376
00:15:54.059 --> 00:15:54.679
Nice segue.
377
00:15:54.879 --> 00:15:56.960
I do just want to mention on Mark Hunders, sorry,
378
00:15:56.980 --> 00:15:59.240
that he was the Danish Super League Player of the
379
00:15:59.299 --> 00:16:01.940
Year eight or nine years ago. So he's come with
380
00:16:02.000 --> 00:16:06.909
some top pedigree in. really highly rated, obviously, in Europe. Well,
381
00:16:07.370 --> 00:16:11.240
Macklem Freak is what you're referring to, Thomas Sorensen. And
382
00:16:11.679 --> 00:16:16.159
talk about goalkeepers making some game-changing moment saves. And this
383
00:16:16.679 --> 00:16:20.590
was a back-to-back saves from Macklem Freak here just after half-time, Thomas,
384
00:16:20.629 --> 00:16:21.429
which changed the game.
385
00:16:22.070 --> 00:16:25.110
Yeah, and this is that 1-0. You know, cop another
386
00:16:25.169 --> 00:16:29.250
one and you're probably out of the game. Great first save.
387
00:16:29.750 --> 00:16:32.820
And then the second one from Lacrosse, You know, where
388
00:16:32.840 --> 00:16:35.120
a lot of keepers, you spread your arms, but a
389
00:16:35.159 --> 00:16:37.179
lot of keepers would spread their legs as well. And
390
00:16:37.220 --> 00:16:41.509
he stays composed. He doesn't commit too early. You need
391
00:16:41.549 --> 00:16:43.850
a bit of luck. But, you know, those two saves
392
00:16:43.909 --> 00:16:46.750
kept Melbourne City in it and, you know, initially, at
393
00:16:47.169 --> 00:16:48.049
the end, gave them the draw.
394
00:16:48.509 --> 00:16:50.220
And that inspires the rest of the team, doesn't it?
395
00:16:50.230 --> 00:16:51.250
The dressing room there, but.
396
00:16:51.149 --> 00:16:52.370
Cut those two saves.
397
00:16:52.789 --> 00:16:54.409
You lift. When you see your keeper do that, you
398
00:16:54.429 --> 00:16:56.269
lift straight away. I mean, Tomo can vouch for that.
399
00:16:56.990 --> 00:17:00.350
And like you said, it's a game-changing moment.
400
00:17:00.750 --> 00:17:02.840
Yeah, it was important for Melbourne Victory to get a
401
00:17:02.899 --> 00:17:06.460
point and start their season somewhat well after, we know,
402
00:17:07.059 --> 00:17:09.299
the soul-crushing defeat they had with South Melbourne and obviously
403
00:17:09.319 --> 00:17:12.019
game one away at Wellington. Where are we sitting with them, gents?
404
00:17:12.059 --> 00:17:14.690
Because it seems like they're still trying to find rhythm
405
00:17:14.710 --> 00:17:16.930
with their front three, what they do. You've got Guillermo
406
00:17:16.970 --> 00:17:19.529
Maia sort of floating around in various positions. They don't
407
00:17:19.549 --> 00:17:22.349
seem to have too much width. You've got Charles Nduka,
408
00:17:22.390 --> 00:17:24.529
who's shouldering a lot of the load with pressure in
409
00:17:24.549 --> 00:17:26.579
terms of being in front of goal, which, just going
410
00:17:26.599 --> 00:17:28.920
off your stats, Thomas, I know it took you back
411
00:17:28.960 --> 00:17:31.150
before we spoke about it, but six goals and three
412
00:17:31.190 --> 00:17:33.210
assists in his 15 games in the A-League, which is
413
00:17:33.269 --> 00:17:34.190
not a bad return at all.
414
00:17:34.789 --> 00:17:38.490
Yeah, I think as a striker, you'd be reasonably happy.
415
00:17:39.890 --> 00:17:41.970
I think compared to, we were just talking about Sydney,
416
00:17:41.990 --> 00:17:46.480
I think you've got Shillington and then Serra. I think
417
00:17:46.500 --> 00:17:51.619
they're lacking that width. You've got Jelassic. They love to
418
00:17:51.660 --> 00:17:57.500
come inside and support Nduka. I'm struggling to see where
419
00:17:57.539 --> 00:17:59.720
the service is going to come from out wide. And
420
00:17:59.740 --> 00:18:01.890
Santos came on you know, in the second half and
421
00:18:01.930 --> 00:18:05.970
maybe he's a solution. But I feel they need to
422
00:18:06.009 --> 00:18:08.450
provide more, especially from those fullbacks.
423
00:18:08.529 --> 00:18:11.670
Is it maybe a little bit too reliant on Nduka?
424
00:18:11.930 --> 00:18:13.890
I mean, you look what he does for that first goal.
425
00:18:13.930 --> 00:18:16.779
He actually does really well outside of, you know, some
426
00:18:16.839 --> 00:18:20.599
questionable defending from City. He does really, really well. Maybe,
427
00:18:20.980 --> 00:18:23.619
you know, they're relying on him too much I completely
428
00:18:23.660 --> 00:18:25.920
agree with you. I think from a full-back perspective, if
429
00:18:25.960 --> 00:18:28.079
the boys can engage a little bit more, which is
430
00:18:28.099 --> 00:18:31.059
something the City do really well, you might be able
431
00:18:31.099 --> 00:18:34.160
to provide some options out wide at least. But, yeah,
432
00:18:34.200 --> 00:18:36.369
maybe it's a scenario where they're too reliant on him
433
00:18:36.450 --> 00:18:36.750
up front.
434
00:18:36.890 --> 00:18:38.970
Yeah, and let's not forget Harry Sawyer who came on.
435
00:18:39.009 --> 00:18:40.769
He'll be part of what they're doing.
436
00:18:40.869 --> 00:18:42.230
And you're going to need width if you've got Harry
437
00:18:42.269 --> 00:18:44.569
Sawyer up front because he's going to be wanting balls
438
00:18:44.609 --> 00:18:47.430
whipped in onto the head of the Atlantic salmon, as
439
00:18:47.470 --> 00:18:48.730
we say, Butka.
440
00:18:48.750 --> 00:18:48.950
Yeah.
441
00:18:49.849 --> 00:18:52.569
Yeah, very important result for Melbourne to get their season started,
442
00:18:52.589 --> 00:18:54.549
but a lot to be excited about for Melbourne City
443
00:18:54.890 --> 00:18:57.390
with that second-half performance. Guys, we are going to get
444
00:18:57.410 --> 00:19:01.130
into the Download MVP. This is where we cast our
445
00:19:01.150 --> 00:19:04.529
3-2-1 votes on criteria. That's really based on whatever we
446
00:19:04.569 --> 00:19:06.630
want it to be. So, Thomas, you're going to be
447
00:19:06.849 --> 00:19:10.059
opening the batting here with the one vote for the
448
00:19:10.099 --> 00:19:11.359
weekend's performances.
449
00:19:12.200 --> 00:19:15.700
Yeah, Yuli, I think, you know, his strike from distance,
450
00:19:15.759 --> 00:19:17.640
I think, was, you know, first of all, great for
451
00:19:17.680 --> 00:19:22.009
him to... to get that first goal. But then, you know, again,
452
00:19:22.349 --> 00:19:27.710
also turning that game around, I think, was fantastic.
453
00:19:27.829 --> 00:19:29.789
Yeah, we saw moments last year with Rhys Julie, his
454
00:19:29.829 --> 00:19:32.470
combination with Paul Ocon. He actually was having a pretty
455
00:19:32.490 --> 00:19:34.380
good year until he did that, I think it was
456
00:19:34.390 --> 00:19:35.900
a rash tackle. It might have been in a derby
457
00:19:36.359 --> 00:19:38.579
or somewhere, but it was in the first half he
458
00:19:38.599 --> 00:19:40.960
got sent off and then he never got back into
459
00:19:41.259 --> 00:19:45.119
Futale's Sydney FC team until sort of Patrick Gisnolbe came back.
460
00:19:45.180 --> 00:19:48.519
So a big moment for him... to have a big year,
461
00:19:48.539 --> 00:19:51.480
I reckon, as well... Who do you give two votes to, Butka?
462
00:19:51.819 --> 00:19:54.980
For me, it's piping hot Piper. It has to be.
463
00:19:55.059 --> 00:19:57.140
And he might be one of Butka's boys as well.
464
00:19:57.839 --> 00:20:00.539
He might be straight into that pack. But first he
465
00:20:00.579 --> 00:20:04.329
gets called offside, does the gritty, mind you, first. That
466
00:20:04.369 --> 00:20:07.390
gets chalked out. And then goes full Olympian for the
467
00:20:07.430 --> 00:20:10.250
second goal. There's a triple somersault after he scores that one.
468
00:20:10.289 --> 00:20:14.170
But back to back, the interesting one is last week
469
00:20:14.190 --> 00:20:17.170
we spoke about him not being a natural striker. So
470
00:20:17.210 --> 00:20:20.680
I don't know if this is Greenacre working with him
471
00:20:21.119 --> 00:20:23.940
and seeing that there's something special there, but him going back-to-back,
472
00:20:24.099 --> 00:20:25.940
piping hot Piper for me, two votes.
473
00:20:26.000 --> 00:20:29.140
Yeah, well, whichever way it is, whether it's Greenacre working
474
00:20:29.180 --> 00:20:31.859
with him or whether they've just found a gem there
475
00:20:31.920 --> 00:20:34.599
as a number nine, it's unbelievable what's happening over there
476
00:20:34.619 --> 00:20:37.529
because he's played in that many different positions and now
477
00:20:37.589 --> 00:20:39.369
he's looking like the talisman of the league.
478
00:20:39.630 --> 00:20:40.710
He's causing headaches as well.
479
00:20:40.809 --> 00:20:42.490
It's only two weeks in, but if he.
480
00:20:42.450 --> 00:20:44.289
Can stitch a run of games together like this, that's it.
481
00:20:44.869 --> 00:20:49.579
Incredible transition of positions that's been effective for them. Three votes. Well,
482
00:20:49.799 --> 00:20:51.500
it didn't have to look too far. The biggest game
483
00:20:51.920 --> 00:20:55.299
of the round in terms of scoreline and, obviously, shock
484
00:20:55.359 --> 00:20:58.359
was the Western Sydney Wanderers over Auckland. And Dylan Cicluna,
485
00:20:58.819 --> 00:21:01.180
wasn't he at the heart of everything in that game?
486
00:21:01.220 --> 00:21:04.750
And none other than this moment, which questionable kind of
487
00:21:04.829 --> 00:21:05.910
shove there, Thomas Sorensen.
488
00:21:05.930 --> 00:21:07.190
Double-hand bench press.
489
00:21:07.230 --> 00:21:07.369
Yeah.
490
00:21:09.029 --> 00:21:11.150
It's the gut-busting run. It's the head on the swivel,
491
00:21:11.230 --> 00:21:13.869
and it's the waiting and time of this position to
492
00:21:13.910 --> 00:21:17.329
pass to Borrello to open his account. Cicluna was there.
493
00:21:17.430 --> 00:21:19.750
Look at this again. It's the bouncing off the line.
494
00:21:19.819 --> 00:21:22.299
It's the aggression. And then he runs the whole way.
495
00:21:22.319 --> 00:21:24.119
He doesn't play the ball too early. He waits for
496
00:21:24.140 --> 00:21:26.819
the right moment. He keeps looking which side, and then
497
00:21:26.839 --> 00:21:28.819
he tees it up for his captain, who he knows
498
00:21:28.940 --> 00:21:30.180
is probably going to be his best chance in front
499
00:21:30.220 --> 00:21:32.460
of goal. I mean, he had a great game, Thomas.
500
00:21:32.559 --> 00:21:32.920
Oh, great.
501
00:21:32.980 --> 00:21:35.640
And exactly what you touched on there, when you actually
502
00:21:35.680 --> 00:21:38.740
see that, his head on a swivel, but also you
503
00:21:38.779 --> 00:21:43.089
can move defenders by looking and obviously he's assessing his
504
00:21:43.170 --> 00:21:46.670
options and finding the perfect one with the right timing.
505
00:21:46.710 --> 00:21:49.609
I think that shows his quality and I think that's
506
00:21:49.630 --> 00:21:51.859
what he's known for and that's the you know, really
507
00:21:51.890 --> 00:21:54.440
what he can add and why he could be one
508
00:21:54.460 --> 00:21:55.359
of the best players of the league.
509
00:21:55.460 --> 00:21:57.480
Yeah, absolutely. Make sure you stick around for the future
510
00:21:57.640 --> 00:22:00.529
MVP votes because, as I said, they are based on
511
00:22:00.569 --> 00:22:03.269
our own criteria, but nonetheless, we've been nailing him in
512
00:22:03.289 --> 00:22:04.930
the first few weeks, that's for sure. So well done
513
00:22:05.309 --> 00:22:09.079
to Dylan Cicluna for getting the three votes. Another three
514
00:22:09.140 --> 00:22:11.700
votes of performance on the weekend went to the Wellington Phoenix.
515
00:22:11.759 --> 00:22:14.650
They stunned... They've stunned the league, really, being at the
516
00:22:14.690 --> 00:22:17.670
top so soon with what they... where they've come from.
517
00:22:17.730 --> 00:22:20.029
And to beat Central Coast 2-0 at home is exactly
518
00:22:20.190 --> 00:22:22.470
what they wanted to do. And they started off really
519
00:22:22.519 --> 00:22:24.960
well with what was a bit of a contentious moment here, Butka.
520
00:22:24.980 --> 00:22:27.660
Rafa Duran. Was he offside? Was he not?
521
00:22:29.819 --> 00:22:34.539
Hands on hips will tell us right now. It's a
522
00:22:34.599 --> 00:22:35.259
ripper angle.
523
00:22:36.460 --> 00:22:39.599
You know, that's a bit contentious. But Sheridan, again, he's
524
00:22:39.640 --> 00:22:41.579
done this cross two weeks ago. This time not on
525
00:22:41.619 --> 00:22:44.490
Piper's head, but on Duran's. And they go up 1-0,
526
00:22:44.529 --> 00:22:45.710
which was very important for them.
527
00:22:46.150 --> 00:22:50.250
Yeah, again, the weight of the cross and Duran, you know,
528
00:22:50.289 --> 00:22:53.950
it's just showing a bit of quality. And here, you know, again,
529
00:22:54.170 --> 00:22:56.589
following up and... Nagasawa, I think.
530
00:22:56.710 --> 00:22:58.009
How about the class from Nagasawa?
531
00:22:58.029 --> 00:23:00.089
Yeah, because a lot of times you'll slash at it
532
00:23:00.130 --> 00:23:03.950
and he stays composed and obviously it hits it to
533
00:23:04.019 --> 00:23:04.630
your man who.
534
00:23:04.890 --> 00:23:07.519
My man. He doesn't miss.
535
00:23:07.660 --> 00:23:08.619
He's in Butka's boys.
536
00:23:08.859 --> 00:23:13.059
Yeah, he is Butka's boys. 100%. Well, I mean, just.
537
00:23:13.200 --> 00:23:15.099
I've got to give some credit here to Chris Greenacre
538
00:23:15.119 --> 00:23:16.619
as well. I mean, since he's come in charge, his
539
00:23:16.680 --> 00:23:18.960
record after Chief, who we know who was there, it
540
00:23:19.140 --> 00:23:21.839
was pretty up and down at Wellington, but He's really
541
00:23:21.900 --> 00:23:25.019
built a squad that works together, their sort of pressure,
542
00:23:25.160 --> 00:23:28.890
and he's also raised individual players' levels as well. I mean,
543
00:23:29.490 --> 00:23:31.289
you've got to be pretty happy with the effort that
544
00:23:31.329 --> 00:23:33.009
Wellington have shown in the first two games, Thomas.
545
00:23:33.109 --> 00:23:36.170
Yeah, and that's what good managers do. You come in,
546
00:23:36.529 --> 00:23:39.069
you assess what you've got, you find a certain way
547
00:23:39.109 --> 00:23:41.750
of playing, and then you get everyone to buy in
548
00:23:41.769 --> 00:23:44.460
and get them on board. And it seems like he's
549
00:23:44.480 --> 00:23:47.619
done it. It's definitely a great start. And what a... Again,
550
00:23:47.640 --> 00:23:49.519
we talked about the derby next week. What a way
551
00:23:49.559 --> 00:23:49.920
to go into that.
552
00:23:50.000 --> 00:23:50.400
It sets it up.
553
00:23:50.440 --> 00:23:53.720
That's where... you know, they can put a big statement down.
554
00:23:53.839 --> 00:23:55.839
Yeah, and, Butka, just on Central Coast, I mean, is
555
00:23:55.859 --> 00:23:57.759
this just going to be a result and ground that's
556
00:23:57.799 --> 00:23:59.440
just going to be tough to go to and we
557
00:23:59.460 --> 00:24:02.009
might get more accustomed to throughout the season like we
558
00:24:02.029 --> 00:24:04.390
have in the past at Wellington? Or was it, you know,
559
00:24:04.410 --> 00:24:06.230
a tough day at the office for Central Coast with,
560
00:24:06.309 --> 00:24:08.170
you know, building on what was a pretty good week
561
00:24:08.250 --> 00:24:08.609
one for them?
562
00:24:09.109 --> 00:24:11.130
Probably a little bit of column A and column B, right?
563
00:24:11.990 --> 00:24:14.470
If Wellington get this right, there's a real team ethos
564
00:24:14.490 --> 00:24:17.170
there that Greenacre is building. So you don't know, it
565
00:24:17.230 --> 00:24:19.880
might become that fortress. Always a hard place to play
566
00:24:20.339 --> 00:24:23.200
under the turn and that swirly wind. And for Hutchie,
567
00:24:23.220 --> 00:24:27.579
we know he's got his challenges this year. But look,
568
00:24:27.599 --> 00:24:29.619
there were still moments in that game where they did
569
00:24:30.859 --> 00:24:34.490
quite well. It's just going to be about really nurturing
570
00:24:34.529 --> 00:24:37.130
this team throughout the season and trying to get the
571
00:24:37.170 --> 00:24:38.509
best out of this young group.
572
00:24:38.720 --> 00:24:39.720
Where was it? Under the tonne?
573
00:24:39.940 --> 00:24:40.480
Under the tonne.
574
00:24:40.619 --> 00:24:43.930
Under the tonne, yeah, that's right. Dejan Harrington, just quickly,
575
00:24:44.009 --> 00:24:46.769
he's a bit of a clone of Lucas Harrington, isn't he?
576
00:24:47.430 --> 00:24:47.970
Same factory.
577
00:24:47.990 --> 00:24:49.230
It's hard to tell them apart.
578
00:24:49.369 --> 00:24:49.930
Same factory.
579
00:24:50.069 --> 00:24:51.730
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
580
00:24:51.750 --> 00:24:52.289
Same factory.
581
00:24:52.309 --> 00:24:54.039
He's got the same stride, the same sort of.
582
00:24:54.049 --> 00:24:58.019
Fantastic. Yeah, he looks very good. He's going to be
583
00:24:58.099 --> 00:24:59.839
one to watch for them, that's for sure, particularly on
584
00:24:59.859 --> 00:25:02.700
the defensive end. Brisbane Raw off to a winning start.
585
00:25:02.819 --> 00:25:05.890
Much needed for their football club. Particularly at Suncorp, it's
586
00:25:05.910 --> 00:25:07.910
been a long time since they've won a game there.
587
00:25:08.309 --> 00:25:10.049
How important was it for them to get their own
588
00:25:10.109 --> 00:25:13.130
victory over Perth Glory? And what was... I mean, their
589
00:25:13.170 --> 00:25:15.000
first half, I actually thought, was one of the best
590
00:25:15.039 --> 00:25:17.740
performances they've done in a long time. The football they
591
00:25:17.779 --> 00:25:21.500
played will go through some of the individuals. But even
592
00:25:21.539 --> 00:25:24.460
within all of that, Perth Glory still had chances to
593
00:25:24.500 --> 00:25:25.460
go and win the game, Thomas.
594
00:25:25.980 --> 00:25:28.819
Yeah, but I thought... We talked about the goal, the
595
00:25:28.859 --> 00:25:32.690
second goal, but here again, Perth gets called out... and Vidic,
596
00:25:33.069 --> 00:25:35.869
you know, gets in there as a proper striker. So,
597
00:25:36.250 --> 00:25:39.839
you know, punished. And Naam, you know, with the quality.
598
00:25:40.720 --> 00:25:43.039
So Perth didn't start great. You know, they were on
599
00:25:43.059 --> 00:25:46.160
the back foot. But yeah, you know, this is what
600
00:25:46.180 --> 00:25:50.039
happens sometimes. A bit of... on casual defending.
601
00:25:50.359 --> 00:25:51.859
And they're back in the game.
602
00:25:51.880 --> 00:25:53.950
They're back in the game. And could have. We'll see it.
603
00:25:53.950 --> 00:25:56.690
And this is Alice's first touch in the A-League. Just
604
00:25:56.730 --> 00:25:57.410
come off the bench.
605
00:25:57.410 --> 00:25:58.190
30 seconds.
606
00:25:58.230 --> 00:25:58.470
Yeah.
607
00:25:58.690 --> 00:26:01.799
And then he's been given a gift. And this moment, Bucket,
608
00:26:01.839 --> 00:26:02.680
he serves us to one.
609
00:26:02.819 --> 00:26:05.960
I'll tell you what. This is another one of my boys.
610
00:26:06.039 --> 00:26:10.640
I mean, the Macedonian-Mexican from Pasco Valley, he's going to
611
00:26:10.660 --> 00:26:13.880
be flat as a pancake, honestly. He's going to wear
612
00:26:13.920 --> 00:26:15.900
that on his sleeve. But that's just one that he
613
00:26:15.940 --> 00:26:18.000
has to put away. He has to put away. Like,
614
00:26:18.180 --> 00:26:20.319
we love the kid. But really, from a game that
615
00:26:20.359 --> 00:26:23.329
they didn't have much in, they could potentially walk away
616
00:26:23.349 --> 00:26:26.309
with a point. And, I mean, Griffo spoke very honestly
617
00:26:26.369 --> 00:26:29.509
at halftime and said that wasn't a great half of football.
618
00:26:30.130 --> 00:26:32.569
But they came back second half and, you know, they
619
00:26:32.589 --> 00:26:35.390
sort of worked their way back into the game. And
620
00:26:35.410 --> 00:26:38.170
they're the type of chances, especially on the road, that
621
00:26:38.190 --> 00:26:39.089
you just have to finish.
622
00:26:39.430 --> 00:26:41.119
Yeah, very much so. If we talk about the new
623
00:26:41.160 --> 00:26:44.599
players who are instrumental for the Raw, I mean, club debutants,
624
00:26:44.660 --> 00:26:51.400
George Puzdin, along with Namte He, Tate Russell, Joel King,
625
00:26:51.440 --> 00:26:57.349
Sabit Nyor, Tyrese Francois and Virgilou Postulaki. Particularly in the midfield,
626
00:26:57.369 --> 00:27:01.359
let's focus on Francois, Tyrese Francois, as well as Namte.
627
00:27:01.420 --> 00:27:03.920
That looked like a great combination in the first half.
628
00:27:04.000 --> 00:27:06.089
It had a lot of rhythm, touch. A bit more
629
00:27:06.109 --> 00:27:10.150
stability and particularly some creative X-factor, which Brisbane were often missing.
630
00:27:10.269 --> 00:27:12.289
Yeah, there was some end product. I think Francois as
631
00:27:12.329 --> 00:27:15.849
well had some great strikes from distance and they were threatening.
632
00:27:15.910 --> 00:27:19.500
And this is what you want. You know, nine changes,
633
00:27:19.799 --> 00:27:22.339
like nine new players. Aldred back as well as captain,
634
00:27:23.079 --> 00:27:25.599
new goalkeeper. So, you know, there was a lot of
635
00:27:25.859 --> 00:27:27.559
question marks, but I think they answered it. I think
636
00:27:27.579 --> 00:27:30.400
they came out first game of the season front foot
637
00:27:30.839 --> 00:27:33.759
and I think I'll be happy with that win.
638
00:27:34.000 --> 00:27:35.660
Buck, what was your big tick for Brisbane that you
639
00:27:35.700 --> 00:27:37.400
saw that's shifted from last year?
640
00:27:37.680 --> 00:27:40.359
I just think that overall dominance in that first half
641
00:27:40.380 --> 00:27:42.980
that Tomo just mentioned. Like you said, a lot of
642
00:27:43.019 --> 00:27:45.359
new ins and it looks like they've clicked fairly early.
643
00:27:45.839 --> 00:27:47.640
If they can do that in two halves of football,
644
00:27:47.660 --> 00:27:50.380
they're going to be very dangerous, especially at home. We
645
00:27:50.400 --> 00:27:51.630
know it's a little bit warmer, a little bit of
646
00:27:51.660 --> 00:27:54.009
humidity up there. So they can turn that place into
647
00:27:54.049 --> 00:27:56.150
a bit of a fortress. So they're one to watch,
648
00:27:56.190 --> 00:27:57.890
I think, in that first four to five weeks to
649
00:27:57.910 --> 00:27:59.569
see if they can maintain that consistency.
650
00:28:00.109 --> 00:28:03.329
And, Thomas, a massive decision, really, when you think Dean
651
00:28:03.349 --> 00:28:07.980
Buzanis replaced by 18-year-old goalkeeper. I mean, where do you
652
00:28:08.019 --> 00:28:10.559
stand with that? You've worked with Michael Valkanis. You've probably
653
00:28:10.579 --> 00:28:11.960
been on the other end of that decision at the
654
00:28:12.079 --> 00:28:15.910
time yourself. But a massive decision for the future of
655
00:28:17.269 --> 00:28:19.329
Dean Buzanis and, equally, George Buzanis.
656
00:28:19.980 --> 00:28:22.180
You know, it's not often you see a young keeper
657
00:28:22.480 --> 00:28:24.440
in this sort of situation. Normally, you'll get the chance
658
00:28:24.480 --> 00:28:27.470
if there's an injury, you know, but if he's seen
659
00:28:27.549 --> 00:28:32.130
something in training, he obviously sees the potential and, you know,
660
00:28:32.190 --> 00:28:35.009
Dins Bissanes is, you know, towards the end of his
661
00:28:35.049 --> 00:28:37.250
career and you've got to try to build for the future.
662
00:28:37.269 --> 00:28:39.450
You've got to try to create value and, you know,
663
00:28:39.490 --> 00:28:41.589
put him in and I think, again, he got sold
664
00:28:41.650 --> 00:28:43.309
out a little bit with the last goal but, you know,
665
00:28:43.930 --> 00:28:45.960
he'll get a few more games now and You know,
666
00:28:45.980 --> 00:28:48.730
let the kid rise to the challenge, I think. You know,
667
00:28:48.849 --> 00:28:51.269
and who knows if Valkanis will come full circle. And,
668
00:28:51.289 --> 00:28:54.049
you know, Dean Bassanis is incredibly good with his feet.
669
00:28:55.029 --> 00:28:57.630
You know, if he's seen this young keeper, you know, being,
670
00:28:58.170 --> 00:29:00.609
you know, really good, you know, on his line and
671
00:29:00.630 --> 00:29:02.569
everything else, then, you know, I liked it. I liked
672
00:29:02.589 --> 00:29:02.910
the change.
673
00:29:02.930 --> 00:29:05.910
Yeah, well said. Very brave from Michael Valkanis. But an
674
00:29:05.930 --> 00:29:09.039
important first win for the Brisbane Raw. MacArthur, though. have
675
00:29:09.079 --> 00:29:11.569
done it again, coming from behind and fighting spirit because
676
00:29:11.619 --> 00:29:14.450
Newcastle Jets had a bit of a dominant performance, probably
677
00:29:14.470 --> 00:29:17.430
a bit disappointed with what they produced in front of goal, gents.
678
00:29:17.509 --> 00:29:20.410
But it was Bertoncello who opened the scoring here in
679
00:29:20.430 --> 00:29:22.950
the fifth minute, busting his way through, shooting through legs
680
00:29:23.490 --> 00:29:27.049
and erupting the crowd in Newcastle to be followed up
681
00:29:27.109 --> 00:29:30.079
by what was a brilliant bit of individual magic, I
682
00:29:30.119 --> 00:29:32.500
would say, from Ryan Fraser into Mr Toure as we
683
00:29:32.539 --> 00:29:36.859
go in. But the rude mischances from Newcastle, Butka, seem
684
00:29:36.880 --> 00:29:37.799
to be a theme in this game.
685
00:29:38.359 --> 00:29:41.700
Yeah, and I mean, you look at the exits of Taylor, Rose, Adams,
686
00:29:42.180 --> 00:29:43.690
and you think, OK, where are their goals going to
687
00:29:43.730 --> 00:29:47.190
come from? A couple of chances for Bertolicio, even Virgos
688
00:29:47.250 --> 00:29:50.069
as well. They can probably lock this game up in
689
00:29:50.089 --> 00:29:52.660
the first half. They don't. And then this is all
690
00:29:52.720 --> 00:29:53.119
it takes.
691
00:29:53.559 --> 00:29:54.359
A quick rocket.
692
00:29:54.579 --> 00:30:02.369
Literally a rocket with some coaching from a socceroo as well. But,
693
00:30:02.549 --> 00:30:04.250
you know, a great ball from Fraser. We know he
694
00:30:04.269 --> 00:30:08.009
can deliver that. Yeah, so probably unfortunate for Newcastle in
695
00:30:08.029 --> 00:30:09.990
this one not to take the three points, particularly with
696
00:30:10.009 --> 00:30:10.880
the first half chances.
697
00:30:10.990 --> 00:30:12.400
Is this going to be a bit of a theme
698
00:30:12.420 --> 00:30:14.180
we'll see with Newcastle? I mean, they've taken a lot
699
00:30:14.200 --> 00:30:15.779
of goals out of their team when some of the
700
00:30:15.880 --> 00:30:18.359
names that Butkus just mentioned, but none other than Clayton
701
00:30:18.380 --> 00:30:21.079
Taylor as well, who was so formidable. But They'd be
702
00:30:21.099 --> 00:30:22.960
kicking themselves if they didn't take all three points here.
703
00:30:23.119 --> 00:30:25.460
Yeah, you know, they missed too many chances. I think,
704
00:30:25.539 --> 00:30:27.900
you know, again, MacArthur was the first shot on target
705
00:30:27.920 --> 00:30:30.490
when they scored. Great bit of quality with Ryan Fraser
706
00:30:30.549 --> 00:30:33.690
and everything else. But, you know, they just ended like
707
00:30:33.730 --> 00:30:37.549
that last bit of product. But hopefully, you know, Bertoncello, Bertolicio,
708
00:30:38.109 --> 00:30:40.380
they need Virgos because he missed two great chances in
709
00:30:40.410 --> 00:30:42.579
this game. And then Bartolato coming back in, you know.
710
00:30:42.599 --> 00:30:45.380
So hopefully they can get it working. But it's hard
711
00:30:45.400 --> 00:30:48.029
to overcome. You know, you've said all those players. And
712
00:30:48.069 --> 00:30:48.910
they are top players.
713
00:30:48.930 --> 00:30:49.750
That's a big gap.
714
00:30:49.769 --> 00:30:52.819
So you've got to give them a little bit of slack. But,
715
00:30:53.019 --> 00:30:55.220
you know, I think they showed enough. But now they've
716
00:30:55.240 --> 00:30:57.279
got Asia, Asian Champions League.
717
00:30:57.359 --> 00:30:58.319
And Japan this week.
718
00:30:58.440 --> 00:31:00.339
Yeah, so that's going to be the big challenge.
719
00:31:00.539 --> 00:31:00.839
Yeah.
720
00:31:01.299 --> 00:31:03.359
I mean, that's a whole different ballgame, as we know.
721
00:31:03.440 --> 00:31:06.619
I mean, that's going to be difficult for them, I guess,
722
00:31:06.660 --> 00:31:09.890
to be travelling back and forth. But you're right. It's
723
00:31:09.910 --> 00:31:11.430
probably some time to put a bit of spotlight on
724
00:31:11.450 --> 00:31:13.089
Nikos Virgos. He needs to start scoring.
725
00:31:13.329 --> 00:31:14.309
He needs to step up.
726
00:31:14.529 --> 00:31:18.430
Consistently for this team who are, you know, reigning... champions
727
00:31:18.450 --> 00:31:21.150
in regards to the home and away season so yeah
728
00:31:21.170 --> 00:31:23.130
they had their moments there Newcastle and I'm sure they'll
729
00:31:23.150 --> 00:31:25.930
be back again but MacArthur it looked like they were
730
00:31:25.950 --> 00:31:28.200
more likely to win after that late goal and they
731
00:31:28.259 --> 00:31:31.380
showed that spirit again where I think a lot a
732
00:31:31.420 --> 00:31:33.420
lot of people are expecting MacArthur to do some to
733
00:31:33.460 --> 00:31:35.200
do some things this season with the squad that they've
734
00:31:35.220 --> 00:31:35.900
assembled Butka.
735
00:31:36.240 --> 00:31:39.039
Well like we said last week that squad runs deep
736
00:31:39.059 --> 00:31:41.079
they've got a lot of class I think once they
737
00:31:41.180 --> 00:31:44.880
settle uh, you'll find that, um, not only will they
738
00:31:45.200 --> 00:31:47.980
potentially shock some teams, uh, but they might be able
739
00:31:48.000 --> 00:31:50.200
to make that run into the six. So I think
740
00:31:50.240 --> 00:31:53.309
Sasha is really building nicely. Um, a few boys building
741
00:31:53.329 --> 00:31:57.150
their fitness once they get firing, uh, they'll be dangerous. Yep.
742
00:31:57.309 --> 00:32:00.369
Yep. Definitely. Well, uh, It's a new segment and it's
743
00:32:00.410 --> 00:32:02.509
one of the favourite ones that's becoming on the show
744
00:32:02.569 --> 00:32:05.809
because you guys can get involved. It is peak or weak,
745
00:32:06.269 --> 00:32:08.769
ladies and gents. You guys can get involved in the comments.
746
00:32:08.829 --> 00:32:11.410
Join us with your views around the questions that will
747
00:32:11.430 --> 00:32:13.710
be going. We are throwing the questions between each other
748
00:32:14.089 --> 00:32:15.970
so that we all get a chance to answer, is
749
00:32:16.049 --> 00:32:18.529
it peak or is it weak to each statement? So
750
00:32:18.569 --> 00:32:21.509
I'm going to go first to you, Naum Sekulovski.
751
00:32:21.750 --> 00:32:22.049
Let's go.
752
00:32:22.109 --> 00:32:25.970
Amber Bill copped a nasty case of mischanced itis on
753
00:32:26.059 --> 00:32:30.130
Saturday night. Let's have a look. Here he comes in,
754
00:32:30.430 --> 00:32:33.869
cuts onto the left, hits it over, and then straight
755
00:32:33.890 --> 00:32:34.549
to the right hip.
756
00:32:34.809 --> 00:32:38.450
Ouch. Oh, no. Look, no, no. We're going to say peak.
757
00:32:39.029 --> 00:32:43.440
Potentially showing a little bit of weak, but we're going
758
00:32:43.460 --> 00:32:45.400
to say peak. Potentially showing a little bit of weak.
759
00:32:45.460 --> 00:32:46.680
Maybe just pull that hip.
760
00:32:46.779 --> 00:32:48.980
We'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
761
00:32:49.000 --> 00:32:54.759
We'll give him the benefit of the doubt. All right, well, Batka,
762
00:32:54.779 --> 00:32:55.420
it's over to you.
763
00:32:55.480 --> 00:32:58.869
All right, Tomo, have we already seen the goal line
764
00:32:58.950 --> 00:33:01.289
clearance of the season from Big Bad Billy?
765
00:33:01.609 --> 00:33:03.829
Oh, this was a ripper.
766
00:33:04.130 --> 00:33:08.230
It's a great bit of effort from Tuoloma. But you
767
00:33:08.250 --> 00:33:10.950
know what? I trust the defenders of this league. I'm
768
00:33:10.990 --> 00:33:14.450
expecting more. This is weak.
769
00:33:14.910 --> 00:33:20.170
Oh, Tomo, that's massive. That's massive. That's massive. Step up.
770
00:33:20.470 --> 00:33:22.660
Oh, I can only apologise.
771
00:33:22.880 --> 00:33:24.180
That's massive.
772
00:33:24.200 --> 00:33:25.480
Sorry, Billy. Sorry for us, mate.
773
00:33:25.819 --> 00:33:26.339
Sorry for us.
774
00:33:26.359 --> 00:33:26.799
Sorry, Billy.
775
00:33:26.819 --> 00:33:30.400
Don't control our Danish friend. That was unbelievable.
776
00:33:30.599 --> 00:33:31.299
Big call.
777
00:33:31.400 --> 00:33:32.019
Yeah, big call.
778
00:33:32.059 --> 00:33:34.579
But anyway, hopefully we don't see Bill in person because
779
00:33:34.599 --> 00:33:35.339
he looks feisty.
780
00:33:35.440 --> 00:33:35.900
Yeah, he does.
781
00:33:36.319 --> 00:33:39.750
Hey, bud, Jake. Juan Mata. Is he as classy off
782
00:33:39.789 --> 00:33:41.210
the pitch as he is on it?
783
00:33:41.430 --> 00:33:43.789
Jeez, I'd love to say no because he's so good
784
00:33:43.869 --> 00:33:46.690
on the field. He had 18 goal contributions last year,
785
00:33:46.730 --> 00:33:49.210
but I was there at the game. He's literally gone
786
00:33:49.250 --> 00:33:53.230
around to every single fan in the stadium, every staff member,
787
00:33:53.430 --> 00:33:56.490
every player, and took the time. It's not just a
788
00:33:56.529 --> 00:33:58.230
high and by. He takes the time to say hello.
789
00:33:58.279 --> 00:34:00.380
He came over to me and Michael's a pony. And
790
00:34:00.420 --> 00:34:02.180
had a chat like we were some of his best
791
00:34:02.220 --> 00:34:05.059
mates that he just hadn't forgotten about. I mean, he
792
00:34:05.319 --> 00:34:07.039
is definitely class. And that is Pete.
793
00:34:07.059 --> 00:34:09.699
Bit of man love. Yeah, I was going to say,
794
00:34:09.719 --> 00:34:11.239
bit of man love. But how good does he look
795
00:34:11.280 --> 00:34:12.219
in the suit, by the way?
796
00:34:12.320 --> 00:34:16.860
Highlight reel. But no, Pete for me on that one.
797
00:34:16.880 --> 00:34:19.539
But yeah, I mean, it's a bit of a nervous
798
00:34:19.579 --> 00:34:21.420
sign for Melbourne City fans when he's back in the building,
799
00:34:21.460 --> 00:34:21.960
that's for sure.
800
00:34:22.679 --> 00:34:23.000
No doubt.
801
00:34:23.019 --> 00:34:25.579
That goal from last season still rings.
802
00:34:25.820 --> 00:34:29.300
Boys, you've got some big games this weekend. Would love
803
00:34:29.340 --> 00:34:31.159
to know your picks of the rounds that you're looking
804
00:34:31.179 --> 00:34:32.599
forward to. Butka, we'll start with you.
805
00:34:33.500 --> 00:34:35.800
Battle of the West. We've got the Bulls at home
806
00:34:35.909 --> 00:34:38.969
to the Wanderers who are absolutely flying. So I reckon
807
00:34:38.989 --> 00:34:40.909
that bell is going to be in overdrive there at
808
00:34:40.929 --> 00:34:43.949
the Bulls. It's going to be going 24-7. But really
809
00:34:43.969 --> 00:34:45.130
looking forward to seeing that one.
810
00:34:45.289 --> 00:34:47.829
Is that the Battle of the West? Have you just
811
00:34:47.869 --> 00:34:48.309
made that up?
812
00:34:49.030 --> 00:34:49.590
Well, why not?
813
00:34:50.070 --> 00:34:50.409
Why not?
814
00:34:50.909 --> 00:34:52.800
I've just coined it.
815
00:34:52.840 --> 00:34:55.940
Come on, just bring it on.
816
00:34:55.980 --> 00:34:57.780
Thomas, what about you? I mean, City, they've got to
817
00:34:57.800 --> 00:34:58.519
be close to your lips.
818
00:34:59.039 --> 00:35:02.699
Yeah, you know, I would love to see they finish
819
00:35:02.719 --> 00:35:08.059
great in the derby. How do they stand up against Sydney? So,
820
00:35:08.239 --> 00:35:11.880
you know, again, Kisnoble coming back to Amy Park, you know,
821
00:35:11.900 --> 00:35:15.090
that'll be some spice there. And then, you know, Who
822
00:35:15.119 --> 00:35:17.610
of these big teams can step up? You know, that
823
00:35:17.630 --> 00:35:18.329
would be the question.
824
00:35:18.489 --> 00:35:20.349
Yeah, well, it's good to see the fans in droves
825
00:35:20.429 --> 00:35:22.130
for the derby on the weekend as well as the
826
00:35:22.170 --> 00:35:25.170
Round 1 crowd numbers were up. You guys can grab
827
00:35:25.269 --> 00:35:29.210
your tickets at thealeagues.com.au to make sure you get around
828
00:35:29.230 --> 00:35:31.010
the grounds for the upcoming games because there are going
829
00:35:31.030 --> 00:35:33.840
to be some firecrackers. You'll also have seen on the
830
00:35:33.929 --> 00:35:38.340
A-Leagues YouTube channel, Total A-Leagues is back as always. But
831
00:35:38.360 --> 00:35:40.739
