00:01:16The Weight of Silence
00:03:09Conflict as an Invitation
00:05:15Honesty as a Love Language
00:08:41Call to Choose Connection
O TYM ODCINKU
What goes unsaid often speaks louder than what we express. As we tiptoe around difficult conversations and uncomfortable truths, we believe we're preserving peace. But are we?
In this heartfelt exploration of avoidance, I delve into the silent erosion happening in our closest relationships when we choose comfort over courage. Those unspoken words don't simply disappear—they transform into invisible walls that slowly separate us from the people we care about most. The weight of avoidance creates a peculiar kind of tension that grows heavier with time, despite our efforts to maintain harmony through silence.
I invite you to consider conflict not as something to fear, but as an opportunity for deeper connection. When approached with kindness, clarity, and genuine curiosity, difficult conversations can strengthen rather than weaken our bonds. True peace isn't built on avoidance but on honest expression and intentional connection. As I share in this episode, "Honesty is a love language—a language that says I care enough about us to share what's real."
The path forward requires vulnerability, but the rewards are profound. By choosing courage over comfort, we create relationships built on authenticity rather than pretense. This week, I encourage you to gently face one conversation you've been avoiding. Approach it with kindness and trust that genuine relationships can hold space for truth, even uncomfortable ones. Share your journey with me—I'm here to listen and support your growth toward more authentic connections. Remember: when we break the silence thoughtfully, we don't break relationships—we strengthen them in ways we never imagined possible.

00:00:02.524 --> 00:00:06.972
Hello, beautiful souls, and welcome back to the Listening Ears podcast.
00:00:06.972 --> 00:00:16.295
I'm your host, Vernae Bezear, and this is your gentle space for reflection, growth and connection.
00:00:16.295 --> 00:00:27.254
Today we're talking about something many of us quietly wrestle with but rarely name openly, and that is avoidance.
00:00:27.254 --> 00:00:41.204
I had a conversation recently about things we leave unsaid, the unspoken words, we hide away in the hope of maintaining peace.
00:00:41.204 --> 00:00:47.612
But here's the truth Silence isn't always peaceful.
00:00:47.612 --> 00:00:53.966
In fact, avoidance often breaks more than conflict ever, ever could.
00:00:53.966 --> 00:01:00.423
It creates invisible walls between us and the people we love most.
00:01:00.423 --> 00:01:15.251
Today, let's gently explore why facing difficult conversations head-on can not only preserve our relationships but deepen them in ways we never ever imagined.
00:01:15.251 --> 00:01:17.935
Let's settle in and begin.
00:01:17.935 --> 00:01:24.763
Let's start by admitting something Most of us dislike conflict.
00:01:26.225 --> 00:01:31.331
We see it as uncomfortable, messy and even dangerous.
00:01:31.331 --> 00:01:37.956
But have you ever noticed what happens when we avoid conflict completely?
00:01:37.956 --> 00:01:53.140
That quiet tension grows heavier, deeper, louder, despite our silence.
00:01:53.140 --> 00:01:55.102
Avoidance isn't just a neutral act.
00:01:55.102 --> 00:01:58.632
It doesn't make issues vanish, disappear.
00:01:58.632 --> 00:02:03.871
It allows them to quietly deepen their roots.
00:02:03.871 --> 00:02:05.462
Allows them to quietly deepen their roots.
00:02:05.462 --> 00:02:22.560
Over time, those small, unspoken issues become large resentments, resentments that quietly separate us from each other.
00:02:22.560 --> 00:02:26.879
Take a moment to reflect.
00:02:26.879 --> 00:02:34.300
What are you avoiding right now in your relationships.
00:02:34.300 --> 00:02:42.086
Maybe it's a tough conversation with your partner, your child, a friend or maybe even yourself.
00:02:42.086 --> 00:02:45.794
Notice how heavy the silence feels.
00:02:45.794 --> 00:03:02.116
It's important to recognize how avoidance, while seeming protective, might actually be slowly breaking connections that really matter deeply to you.
00:03:02.116 --> 00:03:07.830
Let's shift our perspective slightly.
00:03:09.360 --> 00:03:14.171
Conflict doesn't always automatically mean that something's wrong.
00:03:14.171 --> 00:03:23.830
In fact, healthy disagreements can be powerful opportunities to deepen intimacy and trust.
00:03:23.830 --> 00:03:34.989
Think of conflict as an invitation, an invitation to honesty, to vulnerability, to growth.
00:03:34.989 --> 00:03:43.610
Conflict asks us to speak our truth and listen deeply to others.
00:03:43.610 --> 00:03:51.009
When we discuss things directly, we communicate respect and care.
00:03:51.009 --> 00:04:02.286
We show the people we love that I'm willing to risk temporary discomfort to create lasting connection.
00:04:02.286 --> 00:04:06.799
Music.
00:04:06.799 --> 00:04:10.790
What does healthy conflict really look like?
00:04:10.790 --> 00:04:21.096
Well, it involves kindness and clarity coupled with empathy.
00:04:21.096 --> 00:04:31.214
It means setting aside all blame and prioritizing understanding.
00:04:31.214 --> 00:04:44.093
Here's something powerful to remember All repair, all healing, starts with truth.
00:04:44.093 --> 00:04:47.463
Relationships are resilient.
00:04:47.463 --> 00:05:00.057
They can handle difficult words, uncomfortable honesty and authentic, truly authentic expressions of emotion.
00:05:00.057 --> 00:05:12.454
What they struggle with is silence, avoidance and the invisible distance they create.
00:05:15.440 --> 00:05:21.434
True peace is built from honest expression and intentional connection.
00:05:21.434 --> 00:05:40.875
Consider this Honesty is a love language, is a love language A language that says I care enough about us to share what's real.
00:05:40.875 --> 00:05:51.466
This honest sharing, even though it's challenging, creates bridges, not walls.
00:05:51.466 --> 00:05:56.514
Let's talk about how to speak these truths intentionally.
00:05:56.514 --> 00:06:01.446
Remember, honesty doesn't have to be harsh.
00:06:01.446 --> 00:06:09.404
It can definitely be gentle, thoughtful and, above all, respectful.
00:06:09.404 --> 00:06:18.850
It involves owning your feelings, avoiding blame and making space for the other person's truth as well.
00:06:18.850 --> 00:06:35.591
Maybe your truth sounds like I've noticed some tension between us and I'd love to understand your feelings better, or I'm finding it really hard to let this go.
00:06:35.591 --> 00:06:45.492
I think we need to talk, or I care about our connection way more than comfort right now.
00:06:45.492 --> 00:06:52.132
This isn't just communication for the sake of talking things out.
00:06:52.132 --> 00:07:03.992
It is courageous vulnerability and it's exactly what deep relationships need to grow and thrive.
00:07:03.992 --> 00:07:12.072
As we wrap up, I invite you to hold these truths close.
00:07:13.779 --> 00:07:15.588
Avoidance isn't peace.
00:07:15.588 --> 00:07:21.750
Honesty is Silence doesn't keep the peace.
00:07:21.750 --> 00:07:24.206
Vulnerability does.
00:07:24.206 --> 00:07:33.451
Conflict isn't always destructive, but it can be deeply connective.
00:07:33.451 --> 00:07:53.704
You're not alone in feeling the discomfort of difficult conversations, but remember, when you choose courage over comfort, you choose connection over separation Over comfort, you choose connection over separation.
00:07:53.704 --> 00:07:58.934
I encourage you this week to gently face one conversation you've been avoiding.
00:07:58.934 --> 00:08:12.596
Approach it with kindness, with vulnerability and trust that genuine relationships can hold space for truth, even uncomfortable ones.
00:08:12.596 --> 00:08:18.007
If today's episode resonated with you.
00:08:18.007 --> 00:08:20.673
I would love to hear your reflections.
00:08:20.673 --> 00:08:24.408
What conversation will you have this week?
00:08:24.408 --> 00:08:31.533
How are you moving from avoidance to authenticity?
00:08:31.533 --> 00:08:40.081
Moving from avoidance to authenticity?
00:08:40.081 --> 00:08:41.081
