Journey back Inside The Blanket Fort as we continue our look at the offerings from SIU Press that celebrate National Poetry Month. This week, we’ll wrap up the list of those featured titles, all of which are from our Crab Orchard Series in Poetry.
In 2019’s Vanishing Acts, Brian Barker cements his reputation as one of contemporary poetry’s great surrealists. These prose poems read like dreams and nightmares, fables and myths.
Moving between the languages of love and war, Jehanne Dubrow’s 2017 title Dots & Dashes offers valuable testimony to the experiences of military wives.
Published in the same year, Charif Shanahan’s Into Each Room We Enter without Knowing was a finalist for both the Lambda Literary Award for Gay Poetry and Publishing Triangle's Thom Gunn Award. In this affecting poetry debut, Charif Shanahan explores what it means to be fully human in our wounded and divided world.
Sass Brown’s darkly funny 2015 debut collection of poems explores both the isolation and the absurdity of twenty-something apartment living. The world Brown creates in USA-1000 overflows with infomercials, classic Hollywood films, billboard messages, strip clubs, and fortune-tellers, illuminating our complex relationship with consumerism.
Lisa Fay Coutley’s lyrical 2015 debut collection, Errata, was a finalist for INDIEFAB Book of the Year. This collection investigates the delicate balance between parent and child, love and loss, hope and grief.
In her third book of poems, Red Clay Suite, published in 2007, Honorée Fanonne Jeffers expresses her familiarity with the actual and imaginary spaces that the American South occupies in our cultural lexicon.
