Killer Girlfriend Doesn_t Realize She Was Recorded By CCTV

WEBVTT
1
00:00:02.960 --> 00:00:12.119
Tira almost feels like something Tara's.
2
00:00:11.759 --> 00:00:14.599
The police, the officers you were looking at, are attempting
3
00:00:14.640 --> 00:00:17.399
to enter an apartment to conduct a wellness check. But
4
00:00:17.519 --> 00:00:22.679
what they find behind this door will shock them.
5
00:00:22.719 --> 00:00:29.320
Clear, let clear, Let well come in here. Oh give
6
00:00:29.320 --> 00:00:32.560
a female down in a bedroom. Oh believe this may
7
00:00:32.600 --> 00:00:37.240
be a homicide.
8
00:00:42.560 --> 00:00:46.399
One hour earlier, the Canton Police Department in Ohio received
9
00:00:46.439 --> 00:00:48.560
a nine to one one call asking them to check
10
00:00:48.560 --> 00:00:51.960
in on a twenty six year old woman named Tiara Birch. Ye.
11
00:00:52.759 --> 00:00:55.000
See this, ma'am, I need a wellness he check on.
12
00:00:55.039 --> 00:00:57.159
My daughter is wrong, very wrong?
13
00:00:57.719 --> 00:01:01.560
Your twenty six Her name Tierra Berg.
14
00:01:01.840 --> 00:01:05.680
Two patrol officers were immediately dispatched to Tierra's apartment. When
15
00:01:05.719 --> 00:01:08.239
they arrived, Tiera's father was waiting for them on the
16
00:01:08.280 --> 00:01:14.640
front lawn. Daughter text me sixty nine this morning, say
17
00:01:15.680 --> 00:01:16.599
I got off work.
18
00:01:18.000 --> 00:01:21.920
Medicine and not. Her phone was like voice metal. I
19
00:01:22.079 --> 00:01:25.560
called my boy here, he ain't heard her. I called
20
00:01:25.560 --> 00:01:26.760
her other friend, he ain't heard her.
21
00:01:27.000 --> 00:01:31.120
There in that blue house, she sees some tall dude
22
00:01:31.159 --> 00:01:31.959
driving a car.
23
00:01:31.920 --> 00:01:34.879
And somebody took LUNDI baskets out out.
24
00:01:34.920 --> 00:01:37.920
The officers headed inside the building, where they met Tierra's
25
00:01:37.920 --> 00:01:39.120
younger brother, Tyrese.
26
00:01:39.760 --> 00:01:48.359
When you guys call, can you guys here for Tiara?
27
00:01:48.480 --> 00:01:49.079
Is the police?
28
00:01:50.200 --> 00:01:54.359
With no response from Tiera, the officers were becoming increasingly concerned,
29
00:01:54.480 --> 00:01:57.159
but at this point they still needed permission to access
30
00:01:57.200 --> 00:01:59.239
the unit if they wanted to check on her.
31
00:02:00.040 --> 00:02:03.560
Lord is coming, yea. Unfortunately we don't have enough to
32
00:02:03.680 --> 00:02:05.879
force entry so that the landlord's on his way.
33
00:02:05.920 --> 00:02:08.960
We would rather take that bro yeh, boyfriend or nothing?
34
00:02:09.759 --> 00:02:13.439
Yeah supposedly, yeah, okay, he's supposed to be in jail.
35
00:02:14.639 --> 00:02:19.759
Okay with that tall, thin mail, with that massive description
36
00:02:19.919 --> 00:02:21.599
or yes of the boyfriend?
37
00:02:21.680 --> 00:02:24.280
Yes, okay, they get.
38
00:02:26.080 --> 00:02:28.199
Between the two and m a violent history.
39
00:02:28.319 --> 00:02:30.360
So well he's got do message with some other women in.
40
00:02:30.960 --> 00:02:33.319
One of the officers went back to the police cruiser
41
00:02:33.360 --> 00:02:37.240
and confirmed that Tiera's boyfriend, Vincent, was in fact already
42
00:02:37.319 --> 00:02:39.080
in custody.
43
00:02:40.080 --> 00:02:45.520
Well, Vincent is still in the jail. He's still in Ricardo. Rhyme,
44
00:02:45.560 --> 00:02:50.879
it's still in jail, Still in jail. Yeah.
45
00:02:51.759 --> 00:02:51.840
All.
46
00:02:53.479 --> 00:02:56.400
The landlord arrived ten minutes later to give the officers
47
00:02:56.439 --> 00:02:57.280
Tierra's key.
48
00:02:57.439 --> 00:03:00.360
I will give you the key.
49
00:03:02.280 --> 00:03:03.120
The tiara.
50
00:03:13.439 --> 00:03:15.360
Almost feels like something watferming.
51
00:03:17.240 --> 00:03:21.360
Tarah it's the police, as you've already seen. After realizing
52
00:03:21.360 --> 00:03:24.039
that the door was blocked, the officers decided to force
53
00:03:24.080 --> 00:03:26.800
their way inside. In Ohio, police are not allowed to
54
00:03:26.879 --> 00:03:29.759
use their body cams on private property, so the officers
55
00:03:29.800 --> 00:03:32.680
turn off their video feed, but their audio keeps rolling.
56
00:03:34.960 --> 00:03:37.120
If a female down in a bedroom, believe this may
57
00:03:37.120 --> 00:03:37.879
be a homicide.
58
00:03:41.560 --> 00:03:44.400
The officers just discovered Tierra lying face down on the
59
00:03:44.400 --> 00:03:46.960
floor of her apartment in a pool of her own blood.
60
00:03:47.120 --> 00:03:49.639
She had fifty two stab wounds all over her body,
61
00:03:49.759 --> 00:03:52.319
leading investigators to believe that this may have been a
62
00:03:52.319 --> 00:03:55.120
crime of passion. Based on the lack of physical evidence
63
00:03:55.159 --> 00:03:57.479
and the strong scent of bleach, it seemed that the
64
00:03:57.560 --> 00:04:01.599
killer had meticulously cleaned the apartment fallenow the attack. Tierra's
65
00:04:01.639 --> 00:04:04.400
family couldn't believe somebody would want to harm her. They
66
00:04:04.439 --> 00:04:07.319
said Tiera was kind and generous and would make friends
67
00:04:07.360 --> 00:04:10.360
everywhere she went. They couldn't help but wonder if Vincent,
68
00:04:10.479 --> 00:04:13.919
who had just recently entered Tierra's life, somehow had a
69
00:04:14.000 --> 00:04:17.160
role in this murder. Despite being locked up behind bars.
70
00:04:17.399 --> 00:04:20.560
But not long after Tierra's body was discovered, her father
71
00:04:20.639 --> 00:04:23.959
received a chilling text that said sorry, about your daughter
72
00:04:24.360 --> 00:04:27.040
know the game and the contact that had sent this
73
00:04:27.120 --> 00:04:31.240
disturbing text his dead daughter, Tiara Birch. The killer must
74
00:04:31.240 --> 00:04:34.040
have stolen Tierra's phone and was now using it to
75
00:04:34.120 --> 00:04:36.920
taunt her loved ones. However, this killer was a bit
76
00:04:36.959 --> 00:04:39.879
too cocky because this was actually a huge win for
77
00:04:39.920 --> 00:04:42.720
the investigators. They now knew that if they could find
78
00:04:42.720 --> 00:04:46.079
Tierra's phone, they could find Tiera's killer. They obtained the
79
00:04:46.120 --> 00:04:49.000
phone's location data for the past twenty four hours and
80
00:04:49.240 --> 00:04:52.240
created a map showing exactly where the phone had pinged.
81
00:04:52.399 --> 00:04:55.680
They then obtained the CCTV footage from any cameras near
82
00:04:55.759 --> 00:04:58.879
those locations. Throughout all of the footage, there was one
83
00:04:59.000 --> 00:05:03.800
vehicle in particular that kept popping up, a yellow Ford
84
00:05:03.839 --> 00:05:07.240
focus hatchback with a stripe on both sides. This same
85
00:05:07.279 --> 00:05:10.680
Ford Focus appeared on the surveillance cameras near Tierra's apartment
86
00:05:10.680 --> 00:05:13.240
as well. At three forty eight am, about a block
87
00:05:13.279 --> 00:05:16.800
away from Tierra's residence, the yellow Ford focus drives into
88
00:05:16.879 --> 00:05:19.319
view and parks on the side of the road. Two
89
00:05:19.360 --> 00:05:22.079
suspects then exit the vehicle, but the footage is too
90
00:05:22.160 --> 00:05:25.399
dark and too blurry to identify them. The suspects walk
91
00:05:25.439 --> 00:05:28.800
in the direction of Tierra's apartment until they exit the frame.
92
00:05:28.959 --> 00:05:32.319
The detectives believed that this was just moments before Tiero
93
00:05:32.480 --> 00:05:34.879
was murdered. About a half hour later, one of the
94
00:05:34.920 --> 00:05:38.040
suspects is captured carrying something large back to their car,
95
00:05:38.319 --> 00:05:40.040
possibly a laundry basket.
96
00:05:41.000 --> 00:05:42.920
They there in that blue house.
97
00:05:43.560 --> 00:05:46.360
You see some tall dude davy car as somebody to
98
00:05:46.519 --> 00:05:47.439
lodge baskets out.
99
00:05:47.759 --> 00:05:50.680
Over the next couple of hours, the suspects make multiple
100
00:05:50.720 --> 00:05:54.560
trips to and from Tierra's apartment, loading several more items
101
00:05:54.600 --> 00:05:57.480
into the car. In this footage, the suspects were most
102
00:05:57.600 --> 00:06:01.319
likely robbing Tierra's apartment and disposed of evidence. At six
103
00:06:01.480 --> 00:06:04.399
forty nine am, while they were still cleaning the crime scene,
104
00:06:04.480 --> 00:06:07.959
Tierra's father received the text from Tierra's phone saying that
105
00:06:08.040 --> 00:06:08.720
she was sick.
106
00:06:10.199 --> 00:06:13.120
Text needs is morning.
107
00:06:14.519 --> 00:06:16.639
It is believed that this text was sent by one
108
00:06:16.680 --> 00:06:20.480
of the suspects, pretending Tierra was still alive and attempting
109
00:06:20.519 --> 00:06:24.319
to delay an investigation. Fast forward to eight twenty am.
110
00:06:24.480 --> 00:06:26.519
The sun is now up and the suspects can be
111
00:06:26.560 --> 00:06:30.240
seen on another camera leaving Tierra's apartment for the last time,
112
00:06:30.399 --> 00:06:33.560
but their faces are still obscured. Not only that, but
113
00:06:33.600 --> 00:06:36.240
throughout all of the footage the detectives had found, the
114
00:06:36.319 --> 00:06:39.199
license plate on the yellow focus was unreadable due to
115
00:06:39.199 --> 00:06:42.079
the poor camera quality. The problem was that the cameras
116
00:06:42.079 --> 00:06:45.000
they were looking at were not equipped with license plate readers,
117
00:06:45.199 --> 00:06:47.759
so the resolution was too low to make out any
118
00:06:47.800 --> 00:06:50.199
of the text on screen. The detectives were at a
119
00:06:50.240 --> 00:06:52.879
dead end with the surveillance footage, so they decided to
120
00:06:52.879 --> 00:06:56.199
speak with Tierra's boyfriend, Vincent Ryan to see if he
121
00:06:56.279 --> 00:06:59.920
had any valuable information. As we mentioned earlier, Vincent was
122
00:07:00.120 --> 00:07:03.160
already behind bars. Vincent had been in jail for the
123
00:07:03.199 --> 00:07:06.839
past ten days after being accused of aggravated burglary. But
124
00:07:06.920 --> 00:07:10.120
according to him, this burglary was all one big setup
125
00:07:10.240 --> 00:07:12.959
and he knew exactly who was trying to frame him.
126
00:07:13.120 --> 00:07:15.720
This is because I don't want to be with these
127
00:07:16.480 --> 00:07:19.160
games with y'all. These six is playing game with y'all.
128
00:07:19.279 --> 00:07:21.360
They play a game with me for my life.
129
00:07:21.759 --> 00:07:24.240
The chicks that Vincent is referring to are his ex
130
00:07:24.319 --> 00:07:28.240
girlfriends Asia Lindsay and Taylor Hammond. He was convinced that
131
00:07:28.279 --> 00:07:31.319
these women were falsely accusing him of burglary in order
132
00:07:31.360 --> 00:07:34.399
to ruin his life. What Vincent doesn't realize is that
133
00:07:34.439 --> 00:07:37.199
these women may have taken things to the next level.
134
00:07:37.720 --> 00:07:43.680
Were you in relaitship with yes, there's no easy way
135
00:07:43.720 --> 00:07:46.920
for me to tell you this. We found her dead
136
00:07:46.920 --> 00:07:55.000
today and we believe it's tom Side. What where? What where?
137
00:07:55.319 --> 00:07:58.040
This is? And now y'all come in here telling me,
138
00:07:58.519 --> 00:07:59.040
is this, sir?
139
00:07:59.800 --> 00:07:59.959
Is a.
140
00:08:02.839 --> 00:08:06.839
Immediately following this interview, detectives looked into Vincent's burglary case.
141
00:08:07.040 --> 00:08:09.720
They noticed that two people reported this burglary to the
142
00:08:09.759 --> 00:08:13.319
Massilin Police Department, a man named Jeffrey James as well
143
00:08:13.360 --> 00:08:17.319
as Vincent's ex Taylor Hammond. So the detectives contacted Taylor
144
00:08:17.399 --> 00:08:20.800
to ask her directly about the burglary. However, she claimed
145
00:08:20.800 --> 00:08:23.199
that she never went into the police station and didn't
146
00:08:23.240 --> 00:08:26.160
even know who Jeffrey James was. To confirm what she
147
00:08:26.279 --> 00:08:29.199
was saying, the detectives acquired the surveillance footage from the
148
00:08:29.199 --> 00:08:32.320
lobby of the Massilin Police Department. Jeffrey could clearly be
149
00:08:32.399 --> 00:08:35.120
seen waiting to speak to the police, but Taylor was
150
00:08:35.200 --> 00:08:38.639
nowhere to be found. However, there was somebody else waiting
151
00:08:38.679 --> 00:08:41.919
with him, and this person looked just like ex girlfriend
152
00:08:42.000 --> 00:08:45.200
Number two, thirty eight year old Asia Lindsay. The two
153
00:08:45.240 --> 00:08:47.600
can even be seen speaking to the police about the
154
00:08:47.679 --> 00:08:51.200
so called burglary. After seeing this footage, the detectives working
155
00:08:51.240 --> 00:08:55.240
Tierra's case decided to speak with Jeffrey themselves. During this interview,
156
00:08:55.320 --> 00:08:58.000
Jeffrey admitted that he had actually been pressured by two
157
00:08:58.000 --> 00:09:01.120
of his friends to help file the police against Vincent.
158
00:09:01.360 --> 00:09:04.559
His two friends were Asia Lindsay and his roommate, thirty
159
00:09:04.559 --> 00:09:07.240
one year old Jamal Buleck. He also pointed out that
160
00:09:07.320 --> 00:09:09.639
Jamal was at the police station as well when he
161
00:09:09.720 --> 00:09:12.720
and Asia filed the report. The detectives looked back at
162
00:09:12.720 --> 00:09:15.240
the footage, and at one point, while Asia and Jeffrey
163
00:09:15.240 --> 00:09:18.960
were speaking to the police, Jamal casually walked through the lobby.
164
00:09:19.080 --> 00:09:21.879
It was now clear that Asia Lindsay and Jamal Bullock
165
00:09:21.919 --> 00:09:25.840
were the puppet masters behind Vincent's burglary allegations. But if
166
00:09:25.879 --> 00:09:28.559
the detectives wanted to prove that Asia and Jamal were
167
00:09:28.600 --> 00:09:31.720
also involved in Tierra's death, they somehow needed to place
168
00:09:31.720 --> 00:09:34.440
them at the crime scene. Since the surveillance footage was
169
00:09:34.480 --> 00:09:36.840
too dark and too blurry on the night of the crime,
170
00:09:37.000 --> 00:09:39.399
and the suspects were covering their face in all of
171
00:09:39.399 --> 00:09:42.279
the daytime footage. It seemed that the detectives were out
172
00:09:42.279 --> 00:09:45.320
of luck until they zoomed in on the daytime footage
173
00:09:45.360 --> 00:09:47.639
and saw that one of the suspects was wearing a
174
00:09:47.799 --> 00:09:51.120
very specific pair of Nike sneakers. They compared this to
175
00:09:51.159 --> 00:09:54.279
the police station footage and noticed that Jamal was wearing
176
00:09:54.320 --> 00:09:57.639
the exact same pair of sneakers. They also checked Asia
177
00:09:57.720 --> 00:10:01.240
Lindsay's vehicle records, and the vehicle curR registered under her
178
00:10:01.320 --> 00:10:04.720
name happened to be a yellow Ford Focus hatchback. They
179
00:10:04.720 --> 00:10:07.480
looked up her license plate in their traffic camera database
180
00:10:07.600 --> 00:10:10.360
and saw that on the morning of Tierra's murder, Asia's
181
00:10:10.399 --> 00:10:13.399
Yellow Focus was photographed by a license plate reader as
182
00:10:13.440 --> 00:10:16.440
it passed through an intersection. They were finally able to
183
00:10:16.519 --> 00:10:18.960
zoom in on this license plate and confirm that this
184
00:10:19.080 --> 00:10:22.200
yellow Focus with a stripe on both sides, belonged to
185
00:10:22.240 --> 00:10:25.279
Asia Lindsay. The detectives now believed that they had enough
186
00:10:25.320 --> 00:10:28.519
evidence to charge Asia and Jamal with complicity to murder,
187
00:10:28.679 --> 00:10:31.960
so just two days after Tiera was killed, officers tracked
188
00:10:31.960 --> 00:10:34.200
them down and placed them both under arrest.
189
00:10:34.519 --> 00:10:35.320
Can you say something?
190
00:10:35.840 --> 00:10:35.879
So?
191
00:10:36.960 --> 00:10:39.759
The officers refused to give Asia any information as she
192
00:10:39.879 --> 00:10:40.879
sat there in shock.
193
00:10:41.120 --> 00:10:42.879
Okay, now, can somebody say something to me?
194
00:10:44.159 --> 00:10:50.240
Looking Despite being completely caught off guard, Asia was also
195
00:10:50.440 --> 00:10:53.720
very calm and cooperative. After arriving at the police station.
196
00:10:53.840 --> 00:10:57.000
She was brought directly into the interrogation room for questioning.
197
00:10:57.240 --> 00:11:00.799
All right, so we had to talk about it because
198
00:11:00.840 --> 00:11:04.480
I think that you are able to tell me the truth.
199
00:11:04.360 --> 00:11:04.879
And I will.
200
00:11:05.360 --> 00:11:07.639
I'm not going to say here and lively about anything
201
00:11:07.679 --> 00:11:08.559
like you got to understand.
202
00:11:08.600 --> 00:11:13.120
One thing about me is I'm a very very very
203
00:11:13.200 --> 00:11:14.080
very honest person.
204
00:11:14.200 --> 00:11:17.360
I've done that thing this okay, and when I've gotten caught,
205
00:11:17.440 --> 00:11:18.159
I never lied.
206
00:11:18.399 --> 00:11:19.159
I told the truth.
207
00:11:19.200 --> 00:11:22.200
The detectives finally informed Asia that she was under arrest
208
00:11:22.240 --> 00:11:24.919
for the murder of Tierra Birch. Before they could ask
209
00:11:24.960 --> 00:11:28.559
her any questions, Asia immediately started explaining why she was
210
00:11:28.600 --> 00:11:30.360
near Tierra's residence that night.
211
00:11:30.759 --> 00:11:34.799
I was I know that sounds, but I'm gonna be honest.
212
00:11:34.840 --> 00:11:37.240
I make more ready doing that than if I spent
213
00:11:37.320 --> 00:11:38.799
a whole shift that worked, you know.
214
00:11:39.159 --> 00:11:41.879
However, after realizing she had been caught on camera making
215
00:11:41.960 --> 00:11:45.960
multiple trips to and from Tierra's apartment, she completely changed
216
00:11:45.960 --> 00:11:48.120
her story. She said that it wasn't her in the
217
00:11:48.159 --> 00:11:51.200
surveillance footage because at the time of Tierra's murder, she
218
00:11:51.399 --> 00:11:52.879
was tied up in her basement.
219
00:11:53.159 --> 00:11:55.320
I'm involved in some weird stuff.
220
00:11:56.480 --> 00:11:59.240
And that's kind of like what I was involved with,
221
00:11:59.559 --> 00:12:01.159
and I just don't like telling people that.
222
00:12:01.159 --> 00:12:01.879
That's embarrassed.
223
00:12:02.919 --> 00:12:04.440
Yeah, but it's a little more extreme.
224
00:12:05.240 --> 00:12:06.080
Four or five more.
225
00:12:06.399 --> 00:12:09.159
Yeah, I got kids, you know, I can't be.
226
00:12:10.960 --> 00:12:12.879
You know, I got to make sure they're nice and
227
00:12:12.960 --> 00:12:15.159
sleep and sorry, Like I got a whole basement, I
228
00:12:15.320 --> 00:12:17.399
like to it gets real active down there.
229
00:12:17.639 --> 00:12:21.200
The detective scrutinized this freaky story and asked Asia what
230
00:12:21.440 --> 00:12:24.039
exactly was preventing her from leaving her basement.
231
00:12:24.279 --> 00:12:25.120
My leash has a.
232
00:12:25.159 --> 00:12:28.240
Freaking time on it when it unlocks and lets you loose,
233
00:12:29.080 --> 00:12:32.080
and it was not set to let me loose until.
234
00:12:32.039 --> 00:12:32.799
Six point thirty.
235
00:12:33.279 --> 00:12:35.159
Asia stuck to this story for the rest of her
236
00:12:35.200 --> 00:12:38.000
interview and kept insisting that she was the most honest
237
00:12:38.039 --> 00:12:41.240
person in the world. The detectives pushed back, claiming that
238
00:12:41.279 --> 00:12:45.000
Asia was the angry and jealous mastermind behind this entire plan.
239
00:12:45.279 --> 00:12:48.240
She first needed Vincent in jail so Tierra would be
240
00:12:48.279 --> 00:12:51.480
left alone, giving Asia the chance to kill her. Asia
241
00:12:51.519 --> 00:12:53.600
firmly denied these allegations.
242
00:12:53.879 --> 00:12:55.759
I have no issue with that girl.
243
00:12:55.840 --> 00:12:57.960
I don't even give a damn that Vince was gone.
244
00:12:58.200 --> 00:13:00.159
You do your hopeing he is are come back to
245
00:13:00.240 --> 00:13:00.600
your job.
246
00:13:01.080 --> 00:13:03.919
With no progress being made and no physical evidence to
247
00:13:03.960 --> 00:13:07.399
disprove Asia's story, the detectives decided to wrap things up
248
00:13:07.440 --> 00:13:08.720
and move on to Jamal.
249
00:13:10.159 --> 00:13:13.240
Were you with Asia on the nineteenth Well, I was
250
00:13:15.799 --> 00:13:18.120
cameras on every house almost, so now I'm giving your
251
00:13:18.200 --> 00:13:19.159
chance to be honest to him.
252
00:13:19.360 --> 00:13:22.519
Jamal wasn't budging either, so the detectives left to grab
253
00:13:22.559 --> 00:13:26.200
the surveillance footage. While Jamal sat alone in the interrogation room,
254
00:13:26.360 --> 00:13:29.080
it seemed that reality was starting to set in. He
255
00:13:29.120 --> 00:13:32.600
seemed much more nervous than Asia, especially after seeing the
256
00:13:32.639 --> 00:13:36.639
surveillance footage. The detectives noticed this and wasted no time
257
00:13:36.840 --> 00:13:37.759
upping the pressure.
258
00:13:38.159 --> 00:13:39.879
I want you to tell me the truth. I don't
259
00:13:39.919 --> 00:13:41.279
want you to tell me something you think I want
260
00:13:41.279 --> 00:13:43.240
to hear. I don't want you to tell me something
261
00:13:43.279 --> 00:13:48.360
you don't know. I want the whole truth. Okay, how
262
00:13:48.360 --> 00:13:53.759
to Dasha killer? I'm saying, you don't know, man, how
263
00:13:53.759 --> 00:13:55.320
did she kill her?
264
00:13:59.600 --> 00:13:59.840
Yes?
265
00:14:01.000 --> 00:14:03.879
I was scared, but I didn't never put to that
266
00:14:04.000 --> 00:14:06.120
she would be how you or something like this. I
267
00:14:06.159 --> 00:14:07.720
didn't mean you for you to go like.
268
00:14:08.440 --> 00:14:11.159
Jamal said that when he initially agreed to help Asia,
269
00:14:11.320 --> 00:14:13.679
the plan was to put Vincent in jail then steal
270
00:14:13.679 --> 00:14:17.279
his items from Tierra's apartment. According to him, Asia never
271
00:14:17.399 --> 00:14:20.600
mentioned a plan to murder Tierra, and he never expected
272
00:14:20.639 --> 00:14:24.120
her to be capable of something so sinister makes.
273
00:14:24.039 --> 00:14:28.240
You feel like sorry, she could kill me. I'm sorry
274
00:14:28.320 --> 00:14:33.879
I have been and if I can do anything different this,
275
00:14:34.080 --> 00:14:35.360
she would not be there right now.
276
00:14:35.840 --> 00:14:39.120
The interview was concluded and Jamal was charged with involuntary
277
00:14:39.159 --> 00:14:43.279
manslaughter and aggravated burglary. Asia's complicity to murder charge was
278
00:14:43.320 --> 00:14:46.879
then upgraded to aggravated murder. Both of them pled guilty.
279
00:14:47.200 --> 00:14:50.120
Jamal was sentenced to twenty to twenty five years in prison,
280
00:14:50.279 --> 00:14:53.320
while Asia was sentenced to twenty years to life one
281
00:14:53.399 --> 00:14:56.480
year after his conviction. In a last ditch effort, Jamal
282
00:14:56.519 --> 00:14:58.639
claimed that he was never informed of his right to
283
00:14:58.679 --> 00:15:01.480
appeal his sentence or the the procedural aspects of his
284
00:15:01.559 --> 00:15:04.360
plea bargain, so he tried to file his appeal late,
285
00:15:04.519 --> 00:15:07.639
but this motion was denied. His first parole hearing is
286
00:15:07.679 --> 00:15:11.080
scheduled for November of twenty forty one, while Asia's first
287
00:15:11.080 --> 00:15:14.720
parole hearing is scheduled for January of twenty forty two.
288
00:15:14.799 --> 00:15:17.519
If Asia's parole is denied, she will likely spend the
289
00:15:17.559 --> 00:15:21.000
rest of her natural life behind bars, something many people
290
00:15:21.000 --> 00:15:25.639
were hoping for long before Tierra's murderer. Back in twenty ten,
291
00:15:25.799 --> 00:15:28.639
thirty two year old father of three Nino Bennett, was
292
00:15:28.679 --> 00:15:31.879
having a night out at a Canton bar called Frames Tavern.
293
00:15:32.080 --> 00:15:34.960
At one point, Nino got into a full on fistfight.
294
00:15:35.120 --> 00:15:38.200
He then left the bar and began walking down Lenis Avenue.
295
00:15:38.480 --> 00:15:45.120
Moments later, Nino sustained multiple traumatic injuries after being crushed
296
00:15:45.120 --> 00:15:48.360
by the motor vehicle. He died shortly after. The Canton
297
00:15:48.399 --> 00:15:50.799
Police Department received a nine one one call from the
298
00:15:50.799 --> 00:15:54.440
woman who discovered his body. That woman was Asia Lindsay.
299
00:15:54.600 --> 00:15:56.600
I was coming home from a mixer. I turned down
300
00:15:56.600 --> 00:15:58.320
this alley because I can turn down this alley and
301
00:15:58.320 --> 00:16:00.679
gets in the house. It's a different way. That's when
302
00:16:00.720 --> 00:16:02.279
I came upon the body. Like I said, I thought
303
00:16:02.320 --> 00:16:04.440
the guy was sleep so I yelled to him, hey
304
00:16:04.440 --> 00:16:06.919
get up, and he didn't respond even blew the horn.
305
00:16:07.000 --> 00:16:07.679
No response.
306
00:16:08.080 --> 00:16:10.639
So therefore I drove down and I backed out, and
307
00:16:10.679 --> 00:16:13.159
I'll pull back in to realize his head is bleeding,
308
00:16:13.679 --> 00:16:16.080
and he is you can see his spine. It looked
309
00:16:16.080 --> 00:16:18.000
like like I promise, It looked like someone took something,
310
00:16:18.159 --> 00:16:19.480
just like gripped right up home.
311
00:16:19.679 --> 00:16:21.840
No one was out here. It was like a couple
312
00:16:21.879 --> 00:16:24.039
of people, but for the most part, nobody was out here.
313
00:16:24.159 --> 00:16:26.679
Although Asia said that she called the police right away.
314
00:16:26.720 --> 00:16:29.159
When the police arrived at the scene, her father and
315
00:16:29.279 --> 00:16:33.399
brother were already there. After evaluating Nino's injuries, the authorities
316
00:16:33.399 --> 00:16:36.639
determined that his death was a vehicular homicide. The police
317
00:16:36.639 --> 00:16:39.240
struggled to gain momentum in the case, so they urged
318
00:16:39.240 --> 00:16:42.559
the public to come forward with any information. Nino's family
319
00:16:42.639 --> 00:16:45.679
spoke to the media several times after his death, begging
320
00:16:45.759 --> 00:16:47.799
Nino's killer to turn themselves in.
321
00:16:48.159 --> 00:16:51.480
It's turned our world upside down.
322
00:16:52.080 --> 00:16:54.159
They took him away from his daughters.
323
00:16:54.399 --> 00:16:59.480
It took away someone far, far too soon before his time.
324
00:17:00.679 --> 00:17:03.639
Most definitely someone had it out for him.
325
00:17:04.079 --> 00:17:06.680
Yes, the truth that come out sooner or later.
326
00:17:07.160 --> 00:17:11.400
And if you have any heart whatsoever, bring yourself forward.
327
00:17:11.960 --> 00:17:15.119
You can ask God to forgive you, and we ask
328
00:17:15.240 --> 00:17:18.000
God to forgive you. Please just come and do what
329
00:17:18.000 --> 00:17:22.200
you're supposed to do. This person can't just wander around
330
00:17:22.279 --> 00:17:23.839
free thinking. They got away with this.
331
00:17:24.319 --> 00:17:27.200
The investigation into Nino's death went on for months with
332
00:17:27.400 --> 00:17:30.480
zero progress, so eventually the case went cold.
333
00:17:30.880 --> 00:17:32.400
And this could have been a sheer accident, you know,
334
00:17:32.799 --> 00:17:39.000
pure accident. So it's hurtful and I'm just seven now
335
00:17:39.039 --> 00:17:40.279
for the will to fry again.
336
00:17:41.000 --> 00:17:44.559
I'm right though, to this day, sixteen years later, Nino's
337
00:17:44.599 --> 00:17:47.680
family is still seeking answers, hoping to one day bring
338
00:17:47.880 --> 00:17:49.279
justice to Nino's killer.
339
00:17:49.599 --> 00:17:52.640
We met with Nino's family just after the fifteen year
340
00:17:52.720 --> 00:17:56.319
anniversary of his death. His dad has since passed away,
341
00:17:56.559 --> 00:17:59.359
His daughters have grown up and now they have children
342
00:17:59.440 --> 00:18:03.039
of their own, grandchildren Nino never got to meet. That
343
00:18:03.160 --> 00:18:06.559
man was a loving father, which you've took, a loving husband,
344
00:18:06.599 --> 00:18:10.039
which you've took, a son, which you've took. His family
345
00:18:10.240 --> 00:18:13.319
keeps a memorial up in this alley where he lost
346
00:18:13.319 --> 00:18:13.759
his life.
347
00:18:14.039 --> 00:18:16.599
Okay, right here we have this big banner that says
348
00:18:16.799 --> 00:18:17.599
justice for Nino.
349
00:18:18.039 --> 00:18:21.400
Nino's oldest daughter, Chloe, holds onto the few memories she
350
00:18:21.519 --> 00:18:24.559
has of her dad. His youngest daughter, Carly, was just
351
00:18:24.680 --> 00:18:27.680
two years old when he died, too young for any
352
00:18:27.759 --> 00:18:28.599
memories at all.
353
00:18:29.079 --> 00:18:29.559
Growing up.
354
00:18:29.680 --> 00:18:32.359
When you're little like that and you go to school
355
00:18:32.680 --> 00:18:34.880
and you have father daughter dances.
356
00:18:34.519 --> 00:18:36.359
You know got that taken away when you get married.
357
00:18:36.359 --> 00:18:37.839
You can't have your father walking down aisle.
358
00:18:38.039 --> 00:18:40.880
He was at this tavern around the corner before it happened.
359
00:18:41.079 --> 00:18:43.319
They heard he got into a fight with someone, and
360
00:18:43.319 --> 00:18:46.279
they believe he was run over on purpose. We ask
361
00:18:46.359 --> 00:18:49.960
those questions to Canton Police, who tell us they're still investigating.
362
00:18:50.240 --> 00:18:53.759
I understand that they can sleep at night, and I
363
00:18:53.880 --> 00:18:57.480
just that they did this, so come forward.
364
00:18:57.839 --> 00:19:01.160
It's very sad for me somebody's son, that could be
365
00:19:01.200 --> 00:19:04.680
somebody's dad, and for someone to do something like that,
366
00:19:04.799 --> 00:19:05.200
it's just
367
00:19:05.240 --> 00:19:08.079
Like man like people really don't have hearts.
