Speaker 1:
00:20
Welcome to episode 0 of another Pokemon podcast. My name is Bex.
Speaker 2:
00:24
My name is Gallatrade, and today we're gonna gonna be talking about what Pokemon means to us. So, yeah, so this is, another Pokemon podcast brought to you by the lovely folks over at 65 Media. Thank you, David, for allowing us to be a part of your podcast empire.
Speaker 1:
00:44
Well, now hold on. This is episode 0. So, technically, he hasn't allowed us to be here.
Speaker 2:
00:49
No. You're not you're not wrong. You're not wrong.
Speaker 1:
00:52
But thank you for giving us a shot. We appreciate it, and we're excited to be here. Yeah. Absolutely. This journey.
Speaker 2:
00:58
So, Bex
Speaker 1:
00:59
Yes.
Speaker 2:
01:00
What, what does Pokemon mean to you?
Speaker 1:
01:03
I I would say that Pokemon is just a great nostalgic, warm place for me. It doesn't matter whether I'm watching the show, whether I'm playing a game. It just really brings me back in time to being young and just giving me some escape from who I am and and who I was when I was a kid and brings back a lot of nostalgic, nice, cozy, gross, warm
Speaker 2:
01:28
feelings. Yeah. I I get that completely. There's something really exciting about every new Pokemon release. And, like, even though it's so built in nostalgia, it also is just it's something that's grown with us from an early age all the way to today.
Speaker 1:
01:46
Yeah. Current. Currently.
Speaker 2:
01:49
To the point where I I talked about it on x Twitter, whatever you wanna call it a little bit, and with Pokemon Horizons, which I thought was coming out yesterday, the day that we're recording this or the day before we were re recording this. Turns out it's not. It's a couple it's a month or so down the line, but I I tweeted that I was excited to start fresh again in Pokemon, to watch an anime that for, at least in America's purposes, kinda started it all. And that's really where both of our starts
Speaker 1:
02:22
Our journeys.
Speaker 2:
02:23
Yeah. Journeys with, Pokemon started.
Speaker 1:
02:25
Pokemon journeys, if you will. Yeah. I wish I wish my journey had started as a 10 year old leaving my house.
Speaker 2:
02:31
Oh, that would have been amazing.
Speaker 1:
02:33
Jumping into a forest to catch a caterpillar. I'm I'm
Speaker 2:
02:36
I think you're this way too. I'm so so the opposite of David on from another Zelda podcast where I don't like camping. I don't. I like but if I could catch Pokemon, if I could go on a Yeah. Pokemon journey, you bet you better believe.
Speaker 1:
02:49
If we if we were in the world of Pokemon
Speaker 2:
02:52
It would be a lot it makes sense.
Speaker 1:
02:53
We would love camping.
Speaker 2:
02:54
Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 1:
02:54
Yeah. It makes a lot
Speaker 2:
02:55
more sense. Yeah.
Speaker 1:
02:56
We'd have Pokemon to help us camp.
Speaker 2:
02:57
Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 1:
02:57
Be great. Whatever.
Speaker 2:
02:58
I don't have to worry about bears. My charm will burn them all.
Speaker 1:
03:02
100%. Yeah. I'm I'm very much if I have to go camping, please have me, in a camper with shelter and running water.
Speaker 2:
03:10
Yeah.
Speaker 1:
03:10
Thanks. No. I agree. I, and I that's you know, unlike, 1 of our other favorite series, the legend of Zelda, I would wanna be in this world. I would not wanna be in the world of Zelda.
Speaker 1:
03:21
I would be tear I would be dead. Yeah. I wouldn't even be here.
Speaker 2:
03:23
The same.
Speaker 1:
03:24
Being in the world of Pokemon would be a fantastical, wonderful, amazing journey. And I think that's why I think that's the other thing that drew it to me is all it's very much about companionship and and friendship and and building relationships. The show, the games, both of that is that way. And so I've always been drawn to that aspect of it as well, I think.
Speaker 2:
03:44
Yeah. It's it's really like a utopian society, so much so that even the developers and makers of Pokemon have commented, like, when asked questions, like, what happens to a Pokemon inside its Poke Ball? They're always like, well, it's it's the perfect environment. It's like, what do they eat in the Pokemon world? Well, they don't eat Pokemon.
Speaker 2:
04:04
They have synthetically made food.
Speaker 1:
04:06
God. They don't eat Pokemon. Can you imagine how dark that would be? Like, well, darling, we don't have any food. We we got a resort.
Speaker 1:
04:16
We got we got to take out the slowpoke.
Speaker 2:
04:18
Oh my goodness.
Speaker 1:
04:19
The slope of tails was the most trump traumatic. That was weirdly dark for
Speaker 2:
04:23
Pokemon Gold.
Speaker 1:
04:24
That was very dark. For those of you that aren't aren't familiar in the in the second generation of Pokemon in the in the Johto series, team Rocket, the, notorious villain, decided to cut off Slowpoke's tails and sell them. And why? Why would they do that? Slowpoke does not deserve that level of disrespect.
Speaker 1:
04:46
He does deserve some disrespect, but not that level of
Speaker 2:
04:49
disrespect. He deserves some disrespect.
Speaker 1:
04:51
Especially that shiny banana that kept alerting you.
Speaker 2:
04:54
That's that's that's,
Speaker 1:
04:56
That's a story for another time.
Speaker 2:
04:57
It is, indeed. And there will be many stories for another time on this show, hopefully. But today, like we said, is a story about our journey with Pokemon.
Speaker 1:
05:08
It's all about us and Pokemon.
Speaker 2:
05:13
So do you wanna start, or do you want me to kind of talk how I got into Pokemon?
Speaker 1:
05:17
Yeah. I can I can I can start? So, kind of touching base on the the game that I mentioned, that was really my first dive into the gaming side of Pokemon was Pokemon Silver. I was late to the games. I I was 9, I think, when I when I picked up Silver with my with my grandmother who was very wonderful.
Speaker 1:
05:38
Although, she did try to make me leave the game at her house where I could only play it when I 100%. Yeah. And I was like, hey, grandma. That is not
Speaker 2:
05:45
how the game works.
Speaker 1:
05:48
It's not how this works. So I, like, I, like, begged her, and she said, fine. You have to leave 1 game here, though, at a time so you have a game here to play. And I was like, it's a portable. Okay.
Speaker 1:
05:56
So I did. I That's crazy. Out of respect, I left I think I left a 102 Dalmatians because, like
Speaker 2:
06:02
The proper choice.
Speaker 1:
06:03
Right. Correct. Yeah. And took 100% took Pokemon with me. But, yeah, that's how I got into the game.
Speaker 1:
06:09
I was obsessed obsessed with the show and the movies. My brothers and I loved it. We had multiple episodes on VHS recorded and, like, professionally crafted VHS. Really loved the movies. Definitely remember going to sit in the movie theater with my cousin, and I had my little Pokemon snack bucket thing, and we were we were ready.
Speaker 1:
06:35
We were ready to go. Loved the cards. I I never played the card game, though, which I'm sure you'll be able to tell us a lot more about the card game and the rules for those interested in in the trading card game. I just liked looking at them. I thought they were pretty.
Speaker 1:
06:49
I liked the holographic ones.
Speaker 2:
06:51
Absolutely. You gotta have the foil cards.
Speaker 1:
06:54
You do. And, and my the closest I came to playing the game was renting a VHS of the trading card game about like, all about it. Like, about the rules, about how it got started from the from line ball library.
Speaker 2:
07:09
Like Was that a did it, like, tell you it was, like, 1 of those, like, nineties infomercial.
Speaker 1:
07:15
It was very infomercial y, and I, I rented it, like, 3 months in a row. Like,
Speaker 2:
07:20
I literally
Speaker 1:
07:22
every time we would go to library, I'm like, yeet. Or not yeet. Give me picking this up, taking it back home with me to watch again. And my mom was like, haven't you rented
Speaker 2:
07:34
I'm like,
Speaker 1:
07:34
yes. Mind your business. But, yeah, I would rent it from the library so that I could watch other people play the game.
Speaker 2:
07:43
Oh my god. You were twitching before Twitch was even a thing. You were VHS Twitchin'.
Speaker 1:
07:48
I was VHS Twitchin'. You heard it here first. Oh my gosh. That VHS Twitcher right here.
Speaker 2:
07:53
Oh my goodness. That's awesome. Yeah. That's so cool.
Speaker 1:
07:57
So that was my that was my dive in. I I picked up the older games once I got into silver. I stayed obsessed with it. I you know, we had tons of, like, little memorabilia, like bath toys and pop tart toys and Burger King golden card collectible thingies.
Speaker 2:
08:15
So Did you ever do the the Eggo waffles where they would heat up and have, like, the Pokemon's face burned into them?
Speaker 1:
08:24
No. No. I think the only the only food I can think of is I think we have, like, a Pokemon cereal thing.
Speaker 2:
08:33
Yeah.
Speaker 1:
08:34
Okay. And then I'm gonna forget I'm making that up. And then we get 100% had the pop tart figures. Like, we tons of those.
Speaker 2:
08:41
I feel like Pokemon Pokemania was the biggest thing in the world when we were growing up. Like, we literally grew
Speaker 1:
08:47
up We were in the thick of it.
Speaker 2:
08:49
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Nintendo and and general gaming was the prime of it was a little bit before our time. We didn't really we grew up with it because it was already established.
Speaker 2:
09:00
It wasn't something that like, gaming in general was something that we grew up with because it already existed, but Pokemon came along with us.
Speaker 1:
09:09
Yes. Yeah. We we were the the target audience
Speaker 2:
09:13
Yeah.
Speaker 1:
09:14
Of Pokemon. We were we were the age to get into it. And I also I forgot to mention this. I also we also have, like I think you've we've talked about this before, the board game. So we have, like, Pokemon monopoly Yeah.
Speaker 1:
09:26
Pokemon Yahtzee
Speaker 2:
09:27
Pokemon Yahtzee.
Speaker 1:
09:28
Handheld Oh, wow. Game version of Pokemon Yahtzee.
Speaker 2:
09:32
And, Pokemon
Speaker 1:
09:34
The Master. Master.
Speaker 2:
09:35
Yep. Yeah.
Speaker 1:
09:36
So good. Such a good game.
Speaker 2:
09:37
I used to play that game by myself.
Speaker 1:
09:39
I did. We I just my beanie babies played with me.
Speaker 2:
09:42
Yeah. Oh, that's right. That's right.
Speaker 1:
09:44
We were lonely children.
Speaker 2:
09:45
Oh, but we had our our friends with us, our Pokemon friends.
Speaker 1:
09:49
Yes. Yeah. So we had our imaginary
Speaker 2:
09:53
Imaginary friends.
Speaker 1:
09:54
Imaginary Pokemon and Digimon. I I,
Speaker 2:
09:57
we don't talk about Digimon.
Speaker 1:
09:58
We don't talk about Digi.
Speaker 2:
10:01
That, that shall not be named. I had a very similar ish journey, so I I don't know how I would have known this. I assume my older brother because pretty much everything that he thought was cool, I thought was cool. And he's he's a he plays a probably detrimentally so to his own personal beliefs. He played a big part in me being obsessed with Nintendo and Pokemon.
Speaker 2:
10:27
But but I remember being excited for Pokemon, the anime, to release. And it released we we were doing a little bit of research before the show. It released before the games released in America. So they knew I mean, Japan knew what was gonna happen, I think.
Speaker 1:
10:50
Was it always on kids WB in the beginning, or was it
Speaker 2:
10:54
It wasn't. It it I think it was on just, like, regular TV, and then shortly, it was only on that for a a small a brief amount of time. And then I think it mostly was on kids WB
Speaker 1:
11:06
Okay.
Speaker 2:
11:06
While we were kids until that got off the air.
Speaker 1:
11:09
Yeah. Because I remember I remember watching, like, every day, when I was younger, I'd go home and I'd watch Pokemon and then Yu Gi Oh, like, immediately. Yeah. Another thing we won't talk about, I guess.
Speaker 2:
11:18
No. We can. We can. Pokemon Pokemon like things. I mean, it's it is part of its history, I feel.
Speaker 1:
11:24
Right.
Speaker 2:
11:25
But got super into the TV show, and then I was lucky enough to get a Game Boy and a copy of Pokemon Red for my for Christmas that same year.
Speaker 1:
11:36
Okay.
Speaker 2:
11:36
And it's it's kind of a funny so I I didn't it was like 1 of those instances where I opened Pokemon Red before the Game Boy, But Pokemon Red was from my grandma. And so it was like, oh, thanks, grandma. I didn't I I don't I don't actually have the Game Boy. And then my mom and dad were like, well, wait. Hold on.
Speaker 2:
12:00
You've got other presents.
Speaker 1:
12:01
And That's cute. I like that. Yeah. So did you have just out of curiosity, did you have, like, the Game Boy, or did you have, like, a Game Boy Color?
Speaker 2:
12:10
I had a Game Boy Color.
Speaker 1:
12:11
Okay. So
Speaker 2:
12:12
I I got the red Game Boy Color, which is why you, so lovingly, many years later, bought me a replacement 1 because it Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 1:
12:22
And I remember that now. Yep.
Speaker 2:
12:23
But I had yeah. I got a copy of red and a Game Boy Color, a red Game Boy Color. It's more, like, pinkish.
Speaker 1:
12:29
And, like, a But it it That would have bothered me. Oh, yeah. Because red is red. And it's
Speaker 2:
12:34
if you look at it, it's the it's that. Yeah. It's, like, the it does stand out. My cousin got a copy of blue and a blue Game Boy Color Mhmm. Which was matched much better.
Speaker 2:
12:47
And then eventually I think eventually I ended up with a yellow 1 because my red original red 1 got smashed in a in school, I think,
Speaker 1:
12:56
for something. Okay.
Speaker 2:
12:57
Which I'd never learned my lesson because you'll find later on that I had the exact same thing with my DS in school. I got hit by a dodgeball. But yeah. So Pokemon Red, and then the TCG came out shortly after that. And I I guess for my birthday.
Speaker 2:
13:14
I remember being sick specifically, but it must have been for my birthday because I don't think my brother would have just brought me a deck of Pokemon cards
Speaker 1:
13:23
Yeah.
Speaker 2:
13:23
When I was sick to make me, like, happy or something. Yeah. But but so it must have been for my birthday, but he gave me the the zap zap deck that had Pikachu and Mewtwo in it.
Speaker 1:
13:34
Oh, cute. Okay.
Speaker 2:
13:36
And and so that got me into the Tisha gee. And so I was instantly hooked at movies, games, cards.
Speaker 1:
13:43
I wanted to be. It has too many rules. I don't like rules.
Speaker 2:
13:46
Whole thing. Well, I was I I keep saying I had a brother and sister growing up, but, you know, like, I was basically an only child because they were from a previous marriage and they were from a there was a big a there's a big age gap. There's things like I think there's, like, 8 years between me and my sister, and then my brother's older than my sister. Mhmm. But yeah.
Speaker 2:
14:04
So I got I mean, I it got it hooks it it's hooks in me really, really quickly, and then it just never left.
Speaker 1:
14:10
Yeah. No. I can't. I don't remember a single time. I can remember a time in, like, early high school, maybe late middle school where I was like, oh, I don't wanna tell anyone that
Speaker 2:
14:20
I'm so grateful for 1.
Speaker 1:
14:22
And that was that was kinda sad because I think that was when I started to think it was, like, because it was beating my head, you know, like, this is for kids. And I was like, well, I'm an adult, obviously. I'm 12 years old as an adult.
Speaker 2:
14:33
Yeah.
Speaker 1:
14:33
Right.
Speaker 2:
14:33
Yes.
Speaker 1:
14:33
And so so I so III remember, like, hiding my obsession with Pokemon. So I didn't get any new Pokemon games, so I never I didn't you I told you this. I my first time playing Diamond was on the Switch, the rummage.
Speaker 2:
14:48
And mine was too. We so that was actually something that you and I bonded over early on is we found out that our Pokemon journeys were
Speaker 1:
14:57
Very similar.
Speaker 2:
14:57
Very similar. Opposite but similar in the sense that, like, when I got red, you eventually because you started with silver.
Speaker 1:
15:04
I have yellow.
Speaker 2:
15:04
But you had yellow. Yeah. But then you had silver and I had gold.
Speaker 1:
15:08
Yes.
Speaker 2:
15:08
And then you got Ruby. Ruby, and I had sapphire. Yeah. And then we both skipped diamond and pearl.
Speaker 1:
15:14
We both because I diamond and pearl. Yeah.
Speaker 2:
15:16
Yeah.
Speaker 1:
15:16
And so what black and white would have been after that.
Speaker 2:
15:19
Yep.
Speaker 1:
15:20
That came out very late.
Speaker 2:
15:21
It did.
Speaker 1:
15:21
Oh, didn't it?
Speaker 2:
15:22
Yeah. The 3 d s was already out. I remember that being so the black and white came out while the 3 d s was out, and I remember people being upset.
Speaker 1:
15:31
The d s?
Speaker 2:
15:32
No. The 3 d s. So diamond and pearl, because the d s had
Speaker 1:
15:36
Oh, the d s had diamond and
Speaker 2:
15:37
pearl. The d s had diamond and pearl, and then heartgold and soulsilver, which are the best Pokemon games.
Speaker 1:
15:43
So good. Yes. Okay. I'm with you now. So so it had so it was it was diamond and pearl.
Speaker 1:
15:48
Was it black and white and then SoulSilver? Because I remember playing SoulSilver as a young adult.
Speaker 2:
15:53
I don't I think it was diamond and pearl, heartgold, SoulSilver.
Speaker 1:
15:57
Okay. Maybe I was like
Speaker 2:
15:58
because heartgold and soul silver were released along or after diamond and pearl as because they always do, and we'll talk about this.
Speaker 1:
16:06
We're gonna have literally put a timeline on your of the when the games came out so we can stop sounding old for getting everything.
Speaker 2:
16:14
Pokemon Diamond and Pearl got heartgold and soulsilver as, like, a way to introduce more Pokemon into the game of Diamond and Pearl, because the original Diamond and Pearl games had a very lackluster Pokedex. This is before Pokedex's meant everything to everybody, and people started getting mad when they didn't include everything.
Speaker 1:
16:34
You're right. Because SoulSilver had the all encompassing Pokedex
Speaker 2:
16:39
Yes. It did.
Speaker 1:
16:39
And that only included the first 4 generations of Pokemon. Yes, it did. So black and white would have had to have come after. Yeah. Okay.
Speaker 1:
16:45
Okay. I'm picking up which button.
Speaker 2:
16:46
And black and white was the start of competitive, like the real start of competitive Pokemon.
Speaker 1:
16:51
And that was my first, when I my first anime convention
Speaker 2:
16:55
Yeah.
Speaker 1:
16:55
As an adult. Black and white had just come out, so there was a ton of black and white cosplays. Yes. We had, like, who was the guy the main guy, N? Yes.
Speaker 1:
17:05
Okay.
Speaker 2:
17:06
Everybody loves N.
Speaker 1:
17:07
So many N cosplays
Speaker 2:
17:08
for you.
Speaker 1:
17:09
Like Yeah. An overwhelming amount of end cosplays. Like, there were ends everywhere. And I was just like, hello.
Speaker 2:
17:14
Yeah. No. Every everyone loves end. And and yeah. But that yeah.
Speaker 2:
17:19
You're you're right. All that to say, black and white came out so late in the DS's life cycle that the 3 d s was already out because I very I worked at GameStop at the time when that came out.
Speaker 1:
17:31
Ah, so you're the authority
Speaker 2:
17:32
on this. Yes. It the I remember people being upset that it wasn't a 3 d s game because it was like, what it should this should be for the new console. That's what then that's what people do every time there's a new console out. We're still doing that to this day with Switch and and d s 3 d s games and PS 5 and PS 4 games and and all that.
Speaker 2:
17:55
But, yeah. So that was a that was a big thing, and then we all everyone kinda got befuddled by x and y, which were the actual 3 d s games. But during that time, yeah, we both we both, we both skipped diamond and pearl, got back into it with black and white.
Speaker 1:
18:13
Mm-mm. SoulSilver and gold.
Speaker 2:
18:14
Soul, silver, and heart gold. Yes.
Speaker 1:
18:16
And I think that, honestly, truly, I think because I had a DS. I had no excuse for not playing diamond and pearl other than just Same. The embarrassment. Right? Yeah.
Speaker 1:
18:26
Unquote. I And I I remember getting emerald. Like, I remember going to like, it like it wasn't a GameStop. It was, like, a used store like you do. And I remember trading in something to get emerald.
Speaker 1:
18:36
And I remember destroying emerald. Like, III backward and forward beat that game, and that was my senior year. And so then I guess soul silver and gold heart of
Speaker 2:
18:48
gold and soul silver.
Speaker 1:
18:49
Heart of gold. Yes.
Speaker 2:
18:50
Heart of gold. Heart gold and soul silver.
Speaker 1:
18:52
Heart of the gold. That came out, That's
Speaker 2:
18:54
the heart of the cards.
Speaker 1:
18:56
This is not a Yu Gi Oh! Okay. That came that came out that had to come out then because that I think that's what it's like, oh my gosh. Yes. Pokemon.
Speaker 1:
19:04
I love Pokemon. What am I who am I kidding? Yeah. I'm not cool. I've never been cool.
Speaker 1:
19:10
So I I jumped right back into it with that because that was my favorite game. So silver was my favorite. And I was like, soul silver, music to my ears. My my my heart's desire is here. And so, yeah, Chris, my my best friend, Chris, and I played both of those games just nonstop.
Speaker 1:
19:29
We were obsessed
Speaker 2:
19:30
Yeah.
Speaker 1:
19:31
With Heartgold and SoulSilver.
Speaker 2:
19:32
Yeah. Yeah. We, we had, I don't I don't remember if I was working at GameStop when Heartgold and Soulsilver came out, but I do know that while I was there, we had competitions on who could rack up the most steps on the Pokewalker.
Speaker 1:
19:49
Oh, the Pokewalker. Yeah. Okay. By far the
Speaker 2:
19:54
best like, extra that they've ever released for a Pokemon game.
Speaker 1:
19:58
Was that was that the same because, you know, Let's Go had the beautiful Pokemon Yes.
Speaker 2:
20:04
Joy Con. Yeah.
Speaker 1:
20:05
So and you could you can put a Pokemon in it, and you can walk with that too.
Speaker 2:
20:09
Yes.
Speaker 1:
20:10
Was Would could you put a Pokemon in
Speaker 2:
20:12
the Yeah.
Speaker 1:
20:13
Okay. I couldn't remember.
Speaker 2:
20:14
It would it would
Speaker 1:
20:14
I don't actually know. Cry of the Pokemon
Speaker 2:
20:17
or something? It would. And you could you could I think you could do, like, very, very minor battling with, like, just single button, kinda like Pokemon GO where you just tap the screen. But I think there was a button to do that, and I think it would gather up, like, items for you. That's what I'm remembering, but I could totally be wrong on that.
Speaker 2:
20:38
But yeah. So, we both bought got back into it in Harkold and SoulSilver. Yeah. Picked up black and white, and you got black, and I got white Yep. Which I didn't mention this before, but do you know that the reason that I picked gold over silver is because I thought Lugia, the bird with with wings, it thought it was weird that its wings had hands.
Speaker 2:
21:00
Have I ever told you that before? No. Yeah. I I picked Irving. Besides specifically picked the ho o because I thought I was like, this is a bird.
Speaker 2:
21:10
That other thing has hands and it's not. It's weird. And which is is funny because then Pokemon the movie 2000 is my favorite Pokemon movie.
Speaker 1:
21:19
You're such a weirdo. Are you gonna ruin every legendary Pokemon in the show?
Speaker 2:
21:25
Is that Yeah. Why not? Prototypes. Let me
Speaker 1:
21:27
tell you what's wrong with Articuno. Who needs that guy?
Speaker 2:
21:31
Yeah. Black and white. I skipped black and white too. And I think you did too. I did too.
Speaker 1:
21:35
Yep. We both skipped it. Yep. We sure did.
Speaker 2:
21:37
But then x and y, and you got x.
Speaker 1:
21:40
I got. Oh. Or is that
Speaker 2:
21:41
the 1 that we we did get the same game?
Speaker 1:
21:43
I think I got x.
Speaker 2:
21:45
I got y.
Speaker 1:
21:46
I don't think I got y. Because y had an the ugly bug on it, didn't it?
Speaker 2:
21:50
No. Well, the bacon dragon.
Speaker 1:
21:53
Bacon dragon?
Speaker 2:
21:54
It looks like a piece of especially its shiny form. Y has Ivatol, who has, like, the weird red, black dragon flappy thing?
Speaker 1:
22:03
I'd have to see it to remember it. No. No. No. Wait.
Speaker 1:
22:05
No. No. No. No. The I had the the deer.
Speaker 2:
22:09
That's x. That's Xerxes. Oh. Yeah. So you had x.
Speaker 2:
22:11
I have y. Deer. Yes. You did. And then That is Pokemon name.
Speaker 1:
22:16
Magical deer.
Speaker 2:
22:16
Magical deer. Yeah. That's its its subspecies. Yes. But, sun and moon came out.
Speaker 2:
22:21
You got moon. I have moon. And I got sun. And we both got not far in that game at all. Nope.
Speaker 2:
22:27
We just didn't
Speaker 1:
22:29
we will play it, though We will. For the sake of this podcast.
Speaker 2:
22:32
Absolutely. I'd love to do in, like, reboot
Speaker 1:
22:34
the entire
Speaker 2:
22:38
time. We both skipped ultra sun, ultra moon.
Speaker 1:
22:40
We did because that's dumb. I mean, I own it. I and I guess I will be playing it.
Speaker 2:
22:45
Do you miss the combination game? Because with black and white, they did black and white 2. And then x and y, they just didn't do anything. They made Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Those are so good.
Speaker 2:
22:57
Those were great.
Speaker 1:
22:58
Okay. Sorry. Go ahead.
Speaker 2:
22:59
But they don't do that anymore. They don't do the combination game anymore. They always do they well, they don't always do because, like, sword and shield didn't get a sequel. It just got DLC.
Speaker 1:
23:09
When you say combination game, just to clarify, are you saying, like, a third game? Like, like, they had the 2 games, you pick 1 or the other, and then there was this beautiful 3rd gem.
Speaker 2:
23:19
Mhmm. Yeah.
Speaker 1:
23:19
Yeah. Yeah. So when was the last time that we had that?
Speaker 2:
23:22
The last time was
Speaker 1:
23:24
platinum.
Speaker 2:
23:24
No. No. Platinum.
Speaker 1:
23:25
Platinum. Platinum. Yeah. Yeah. Which I didn't play at the time.
Speaker 1:
23:28
Okay. Yeah. I mean, that was always fun to me, and but but it also it also made it also made it hard. This is so dumb, but, like, I have to say it. It made it challenging when I was a kid because if I just bought if I just convinced someone to buy me ruby, let's say, and emerald comes out.
Speaker 1:
23:48
I want emerald. I'm like, oh, shiny.
Speaker 2:
23:50
But they just bought you.
Speaker 1:
23:51
Your parents are logical, and they're like, we it's sort of the same game. Like, we're not buying this. It's, like, no. But it's slightly different is not a good argument to get another game. So,
Speaker 2:
24:02
But now as adults, we have our own money to be responsible
Speaker 1:
24:04
way that we can use money. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes.
Speaker 1:
24:06
Yes. Yes. But but it was it's it was hard because, like, that was that 3rd shiny game was always, like, the obvious choice. You know what I mean? Like Yeah.
Speaker 1:
24:14
Yellow was great because it had references to the beloved show, and you could Pikachu follow you.
Speaker 2:
24:19
Yeah.
Speaker 1:
24:19
The end. No other argument.
Speaker 2:
24:21
Another reason why heart gold and soulsilver are great because the Pokemon could follow you.
Speaker 1:
24:25
Cute. I love that. Yeah. I mean, if I can do that in the the current game.
Speaker 2:
24:28
Kind of, but not not the same way.
Speaker 1:
24:30
It's not as cute. No. It's not the same.
Speaker 2:
24:33
Pixel pixel Pokemon is the way to go.
Speaker 1:
24:36
Okay. But hold on. I get what you're saying combination game, but now we get DLC. We didn't get DLC before.
Speaker 2:
24:41
We do. Yeah. We don't we didn't get DLC before.
Speaker 1:
24:44
The first kinda
Speaker 2:
24:45
like they sometimes they well, no. Because even the events were mostly just show up to a place and and get a Oh, yeah.
Speaker 1:
24:51
That was not that's not a whole thing. That is just come to this GameStop and enter code or whatever. Yeah. That's not that's not that's not DLC. No.
Speaker 1:
25:00
Like, extra story and everything. Like, I I really appreciate that aspect of Pokemon on the Switch, I guess, is that we get that additional something there. I mean, that's why I was so obsessed with, with, Silver anyways because I played Silver and I'm thinking, okay. I'm at the Elite 4. This is the end of the game.
Speaker 2:
25:18
The big twist.
Speaker 1:
25:19
Yeah. You you gotta go beat this other guy. He's pretty cool. And I was like, what other guy? Yeah.
Speaker 1:
25:23
And then I went, and it's it's red. And I'm like, what?
Speaker 2:
25:27
Beat the whole
Speaker 1:
25:27
cancer region. So cool. That was cool. Okay. I'm I'm, like, living now.
Speaker 1:
25:33
So real quick before because I think we're about at time where we wanted to be for episode 0. So before we head out, because we will never do a generic general what's your favorite Pokemon top 10 because that would be I mean, I could we
Speaker 2:
25:49
could really
Speaker 1:
25:49
do it.
Speaker 2:
25:50
Is over.
Speaker 1:
25:50
But if there's so many Pokemon
Speaker 2:
25:52
There are. I'd have to I I'd have to spend weeks figuring out exactly what my top r.
Speaker 1:
25:57
Right. Right. So what is your all time favorite Pokemon, for those of us that do not know that answer, and why is it your all time favorite Pokemon?
Speaker 2:
26:07
So my favorite Pokemon of all time
Speaker 1:
26:09
And what do you nickname him?
Speaker 2:
26:10
Is Raichu. Okay. And I always call him Sparky.
Speaker 1:
26:14
Sparky. Very
Speaker 2:
26:15
generic. Very
Speaker 1:
26:17
basic of me. Basic.
Speaker 2:
26:20
And I just I'd so I first saw Raichu in the battle against lieutenant Serge.
Speaker 1:
26:27
Yeah.
Speaker 2:
26:28
I love how chubby he is.
Speaker 1:
26:30
He's so chubby.
Speaker 2:
26:31
And Pikachu used to be chubby too. But, like, I just I loved Raichu. And I loved Raichu so much that I actually so I don't know if you knew this or not, but in the original yellow game, you couldn't evolve Raichu. I knew I know you knew that. You couldn't evolve Pikachu.
Speaker 1:
26:46
You could. Only
Speaker 2:
26:48
only if you traded him away.
Speaker 1:
26:50
No. He could.
Speaker 2:
26:51
No. No. No.
Speaker 1:
26:51
He just couldn't follow you anymore.
Speaker 2:
26:53
No. I I if you I promise. We gonna fight. Okay.
Speaker 1:
26:56
We gonna fight.
Speaker 2:
26:58
I I seem to recall that if you tried to give him a thunder stone, he got angry.
Speaker 1:
27:03
Okay. Well
Speaker 2:
27:04
And wouldn't let you.
Speaker 1:
27:05
Maybe he did because
Speaker 2:
27:06
he's acting like Ash's. Anime. It's like, you're playing Ash's game. Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 2:
27:09
Yeah.
Speaker 1:
27:10
We will be looking this up after the
Speaker 2:
27:11
show. We
Speaker 1:
27:12
will be
Speaker 2:
27:13
This this podcast is gonna start so many fights between them.
Speaker 1:
27:16
Yes. We will we will fight.
Speaker 2:
27:18
But I I specifically traded my Pikachu, because weirdly, you can do that Mhmm. To a friend who then gave her a
Speaker 1:
27:28
It is so sad.
Speaker 2:
27:29
It is.
Speaker 1:
27:32
It's like it is.
Speaker 2:
27:33
Goodbye. I traded my Pikachu to a friend just so it could evolve into Raichu.
Speaker 1:
27:38
Okay.
Speaker 2:
27:39
And then traded it back. And obviously, it won't follow you anymore, but I had my Raichu and and my copy of Pokemon Yellow.
Speaker 1:
27:46
Depressing. Can you but no. Can't you catch other Pikachu in the forest?
Speaker 2:
27:51
You know, I'm not I know you can in red and blue.
Speaker 1:
27:53
I think they're rare.
Speaker 2:
27:54
They might be.
Speaker 1:
27:55
I don't remember. Rare. Rare?
Speaker 2:
27:57
Rare? I don't know. You know you can only get 1 Eevee.
Speaker 1:
28:03
Yeah.
Speaker 2:
28:03
Yeah.
Speaker 1:
28:04
Okay.
Speaker 2:
28:05
But I don't know. Yeah. And so, Raichu, all the way. Fun little fact about me. I hate Alolan Raichu with a burning passion, and my community loves to pick on me for it.
Speaker 2:
28:20
We can go into that more in an episode maybe where we do, like, a deep dive on our favorite Pokemon. But not top Pokemon, but just our personal favorites. But, yeah, that's mine. What's yours?
Speaker 1:
28:33
Okay. So, I take back all of the making fun of you for being basic real quick, because we both vanilla latte Pokemon girlies here. Yeah. My favorite Pokemon is Espeon, which I feel like is probably, other than Umbreon Oh,
Speaker 2:
28:51
an Eeveelution?
Speaker 1:
28:52
An Eeveelution. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But I so I've always loved Espeon because so first of all, because silver was my first game Pokemon
Speaker 2:
29:02
Yeah.
Speaker 1:
29:03
Game, I knew I knew that Eevee evolved into 3 different Pokemon. I knew because I watched the show. So I knew about Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon. Okay. Sorry.
Speaker 1:
29:11
So Espeon imagine my surprise Yeah. When my Eevee just started to evolve on its own. I was like, I don't know, Stone. Yeah. What's going on?
Speaker 1:
29:20
And then this beautiful kitty cat popped up out of nowhere. And she was mystical and magical, and I love her.
Speaker 2:
29:27
And psychic.
Speaker 1:
29:28
And psychic. And then when I realized she was purple, I was like, mind blown. She's beautiful and majestic. And I was so excited. So I so I discovered Espeon the way that everyone should discover any Pokemon, which is by surprise.
Speaker 2:
29:42
Yeah. In the game, by surprise.
Speaker 1:
29:44
And so, I always this is this is so dumb, but I always name I always name my Espeon Jewel. Mhmm. And I always name it Jewel with 2 l's because that is my last name.
Speaker 2:
29:55
Yeah. For now.
Speaker 1:
29:56
For now. It's my maiden. My my my born last name is Jewel, which I which I've always loved. I've, like, when I was a kid, I, like, I this is really embarrassing, kind of. But we had I had the cat club, with my little friends on the playground.
Speaker 1:
30:12
We were at the cat club, and, my cat name was Diamond. Oh, yeah. Because it's Jewel. Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 1:
30:20
Yeah. So, I've always been, annoying with my last name. I've just always really loved my last name. I think it's pretty, and they think it's superior to other last names. And so I named my Espeon Jewel because she's superior to other kitties.
Speaker 2:
30:31
Wow. That's okay.
Speaker 1:
30:32
Yes. But, yeah, Espeon, top tier. Don't care how many other Eeveelutions they come out with. She'll always be the best 1.
Speaker 2:
30:40
Do you always do you always try to have an Espeon in your party
Speaker 1:
30:43
Oh, I'm sorry. In your main game? Yeah. If I can, I do?
Speaker 2:
30:46
So I, as a rule, I try to only use the new Pokemon of a new game when it releases, but I do always I also always try to have a a Sparky
Speaker 1:
30:55
in my party. I I do. I I even in this last game, with the typing, I was I was so I was like, I really wanna try to get a girl Eevee with a psychic typing. Mhmm. Or what's it called?
Speaker 1:
31:10
Teratype. Teratype. Sorry. Yeah. So I wanted to try to get it, but, of course, the only girl Eevees are so hard to come by.
Speaker 2:
31:16
Yeah.
Speaker 1:
31:17
It has to be a girl because it has to be Jewel. Right? Okay. Yep. And I and I, I ended up choosing a steel 1.
Speaker 1:
31:23
So Espionage is a giant axe.
Speaker 2:
31:25
I know you can change that. We'll talk about it later.
Speaker 1:
31:29
Shut up. No.
Speaker 2:
31:29
You can't. Yes. You can.
Speaker 1:
31:31
Alright. Well, anyway, now that you've now that you know who the expert is on this subject, it's not me. I'm just a lover of Pokemon. I don't claim to be an expert in anything.
Speaker 2:
31:40
To be an expert.
Speaker 1:
31:41
I It does.
Speaker 2:
31:42
No. No. No. No. No.
Speaker 2:
31:43
No. It's just when we're both gonna learn because there's a lot that we both don't know about this.
Speaker 1:
31:48
Find that he is an expert. And I am
Speaker 2:
31:51
not. I am far from an expert.
Speaker 1:
31:53
Well, anyway but, yeah, that's my favorite Pokemon.
Speaker 2:
31:56
Yeah.
Speaker 1:
31:56
Sticking to it. Love me some XPON. Oh my gosh. And Pokemon Colosseum, where you just have a number on Esbern?
Speaker 2:
32:02
Yes.
Speaker 1:
32:03
That should be every day. Every year should start with Espeon.
Speaker 2:
32:06
Oh, man.
Speaker 1:
32:07
So cute.
Speaker 2:
32:07
Good times.
Speaker 1:
32:08
Good times. Good times.
Speaker 2:
32:08
This is episode 0 of another Pokemon podcast. Once
Speaker 1:
32:13
Oh, wait. Hold on. Where can everyone find you on the Internet?
Speaker 2:
32:15
Everyone can find me on the Internet at Galutrad. That's GALUTRADI do SEO very well, so you can just Google Galachad. You can find my website, my Twitch channel, YouTube, pretty much anything that I have.
Speaker 1:
32:30
Okay.
Speaker 2:
32:30
What about you?
Speaker 1:
32:31
Well, I'd like to say that everyone can find me at at Rebelde on everything, but, unfortunately, Instagram hates me. So it's at i_am_robelty, which is so annoying. But, anyway, but yeah. And and if you're coming from AZP, rebelauti is the same thing. Yes.
Speaker 1:
32:49
So that's that's me.
Speaker 2:
32:51
We like to we like to give David a hard time with that.
Speaker 1:
32:54
Yeah. I other rebel autie has grown on me. So if you want me to be rebel autie, if you want me to be ability, whatever Whatever your poison. Your boat.
Speaker 2:
33:01
Yeah. And then you can find us at another Pokemon pod everywhere. X. On x, Twitter, Instagram. But that's another pkmnpod.
Speaker 2:
33:13
Alright. And I hope you all have a wonderful I'm I'm wanting to end this Are we doing okay bye? Names. Do you wanna do you wanna just throw back to Kate?
Speaker 1:
33:24
Okay. Bye.
Speaker 2:
33:25
Okay. Bye.
Speaker 1:
33:40
It's early recording?
Speaker 2:
33:41
Yeah. It's early recording.
Speaker 1:
33:42
Oh, no.
Speaker 2:
32:06
Oh, man.
Speaker 1:
32:07
So cute.
Speaker 2:
32:07
Good times.
Speaker 1:
32:08
Good times. Good times.
Speaker 2:
32:08

Speaker 1:
32:31
Well, I'd like to say that everyone can find me at at Rebelde on everything, but, unfortunately, Instagram hates me. So it's at i_am_robelty, which is so annoying. But, anyway, but yeah. And and if you're coming from AZP, rebelauti is the same thing. Yes.
Speaker 1:
32:49

Speaker 2:
32:51

Speaker 1:
32:54
