OVER DEZE AFLEVERING
Today’s Wall Street Closing Bell recap with Peter Tuchman.
In today’s episode of Wall Street Closing Bell, Peter Tuchman, the legendary New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) trader known as the “Einstein of Wall Street,” breaks down everything that moved the stock market today. Wednesday, October 21st was a roller coaster session that still finished higher. The Dow Jones closed up 360 points and the S&P 500 (SPY) gained roughly 50 points on 1.1 billion shares. Stocks opened higher, dipped, then rallied strongly. A sharp late-afternoon dive of about 55 points followed before the selloff evaporated. Peter links the drop to headlines that U.S. diplomatic staff in the Middle East were being advised to come home, though the details remained unclear. Advances versus declines finished an even 50-50, transports edged up, the Volatility Index (VIX) slipped, and Brent crude ticked higher. The October 19th 1987 crash anniversary passed without the doomsday repeat some predicted. Earnings remain the lifeblood of this market. Meta Platforms (META) posted solid results after the bell and traded up about $31, as tech, compute, memory, and hyperscaler names come back into favor.
