OVER DEZE AFLEVERING
Conviction Without Contempt
How to Hold Your Beliefs and Still Love the Person Who Disagrees
Outrage is the product — and your contempt is the payment.
In a heated season, when the group chat is on fire and your thumb is over the "post" button, Keith Koo asks the question underneath all of it: can you be completely convinced you're right and still treat the person who disagrees with you as a neighbor, not an enemy?
This isn't really about any election — the election just turns up the volume on something true all year: somewhere, we forgot how to disagree without contempt. Keith draws the line that changes everything — conviction is about what's true; contempt is about the person — and names why it's so hard right now. Researchers found hostility toward the other side is the single biggest driver of a post going viral, so the platform literally pays you to be cruel (and Meta was just found liable for social-media addiction). But the loud contempt, he notes, is the incentivized minority — a 2026 poll found most people still believe those who disagree deserve dignity.
The second half is the answer. Jesus named dishonesty as hard as anyone ever has — "whitewashed tombs," a whip in the temple — and still wept over the city that rejected him and ate dinner with cheats. Conviction and grace, full strength, in one person. Keith is candid that he wrestles with this himself, and lands on the practical: be salt, not acid; walking away from a deceiver can be wisdom, but contempt only corrodes you. It ends with one question for your week.
