OVER DEZE AFLEVERING
In this episode of In-Between the Interview Review, Scott shares his spoiler-free thoughts on The Keeper of Lost Daughters by Veronica Leigh, a powerful historical fiction novel about motherhood, sacrifice, survival, and the families created during history’s darkest moments.
In Nazi-occupied Krakow, Lidia Sobieska discovers a Jewish baby abandoned on her doorstep. Accompanied by a letter begging her to save the child from the Nazis, the baby quickly becomes Lidia’s daughter, Sophie.
As conditions worsen, Lidia also takes in Eva, a thirteen-year-old Jewish girl who desperately needs somewhere safe to hide. Together, they form a family while Lidia risks everything to conceal her daughters’ identities and protect them through the war.
Years later, a man appears at Lidia’s door claiming to be Sophie’s biological father. After surviving unimaginable horrors, he has come to bring his daughter home. His arrival forces everyone to confront painful questions about motherhood, identity, family, and what happens when two parents love the same child.
Scott discusses the novel’s striking authenticity, Lidia’s extraordinary courage, the heartbreaking experiences of Sophie’s biological parents, and the hope these characters preserve despite the darkness surrounding them.
